WHAT WE SAY
Configured as a Deck Saloon, with a variety of layout options providing accommodation for 6 or 8 in double and twin cabins, plus crew cabins for 2 or 3. The Oyster 80 can hit 10 knots sailing on a sixty degree reach in around 14 knots of wind, a very impressive light wind capability that hints at the greater speeds on offer in heavier wind conditions. While on passage from Hawaii to Alaska, Oyster 80#01 Free Spirit covered 1000 miles in four days in cruising trim.

You can find out the starting price of the boat your choice on this page HERE . IPS engines, fitted on some Fountaine Pajot motor catamarans are designed to offer greater energy efficiency, which translates into better fuel economy compared to other systems of propulsion. The overall design of IPS engines aims to optimise a boat’s performance in terms of speed , manoeuvrability and fuel economy. And of course, IPS engines offer excellent manoeuvrability thanks to steerable propellors, thus facilitating manœuvres in tight spaces like harbours. Spacious and comfortable when sailing, Fountaine Pajot motor yachts also offer fine cruising speed. Depending on the model and the engine installed on board, they can reach a max speed of 24 knots and 18 knots in fast cruising mode. Power catamarans are naturally more efficient than monohull power boats . Depending on the model and the engine installed on board, at a high cruising speed, i.e. around 18 knots, motor yachts in the Fountaine Pajot range can reach between 260 and 425 nautical miles. At an “economical” cruising speed, they can reach up to 1000 nautical miles. The Power 67, the Flagship model in the range, can reach up to 4000 nautical miles at economy cruise speed. Take a look at the boat comparator here Thanks to its architecture with two floats and a central suspended platform, its mass is divided by two and better spread. Thinner hulls decrease the Archimedes thrust and require much less energy to move the keel through the water. Half the consumption of a monocoque is the result, increasing the range of motor catamarans for long crossings and long stays at anchor. For the same length, a catamaran gives much more living surface . The great width permits much more spacious cockpit space as well as a huge interior-exterior living space on one level, Innovative, high-tech composite materials constitute most of the structure of our motor catamarans : hulls, flybridge, decks, bulkheads and more. Fountaine Pajot has perfected a resin injection and infusion technique, an advanced technology that gives our boats all their robustness. Thanks to this expertise, we can make our motor yachts considerably lighter while maintaining consistent quality . Injection also makes it possible to meet the most stringent environmental requirements, in line with the commitments of the Fountaine Pajot Group. 23-meter motorboat Interested in this model?Your local dealer will be happy to advise you and give you more details about this model! Crew is one of the largest expenses on a superyacht and critical to the owner’s enjoyment of their vessel. As the largest crew agency in the world, we know crew. Our cost calculator contains customized crew lists for yachts ranging from 80ft to 600ft with salary information based on our reference verified salary data. Our users also have the ability to completely tailor the crew list to the specific needs, schedule and requirements of their vessel. Each yacht is unique and may have specific owner requests in addition to the yacht’s safe manning requirements. Management of the supplemental crew costs and strategic budgeting can help avoid significant overspend on categories such as food and uniform. This tool contains default values based on our industry expertise and recommended budget for an efficiently and safely run superyacht. To learn more about each crew position in detail, including salary ranges, please visit our yacht department directory . Drag the sliders to modify your results. These are not linear scales and we expect most yachts to operate within the 20-80% window. Above 80% and below 20% costs increase or decrease at exaggerated levels and we only see numbers in these levels in very rare circumstances. This sunburst diagram is interactive. You can click into each block to see the expense break down and mouse over each block for more details. Our chart of accounts displays seven major categories, 20 sub-categories plus a further 80 detail categories for a total of 107. Our yacht operating cost calculator is now on it’s third major revision. We start with actual yacht expense data from our yacht management accountants and then generate formulas to extrapolate out the budget for a wide range of yachts. We have been providing accounting services to large yachts for the past 18 years. Our operating cost calculator is tuned for yachts from 80 to 600 feet. We find operating variables create the largest variances for yachts smaller than 100 feet and larger than 250 feet. We have tested the numbers the most in the range from 100 to 250 feet. Our budget calculator factors in the fuel burn for a range of engine sizes typically seen installed on yachts by length. By dragging the green “fuel dockage” slider to the right you will increase the projected fuel burn rate and therefore the budget cost for fuel. Our default position would be for a typical displacement fuel burn. Position the slider in the 60-80% range for fuel projections for planning hulls. Our default values produce a budget number that we believe is generous to run a yacht to a high standard. Perfect is a very expensive word to use in the yachting industry where standards are already high. Moving the crew and maintenance sliders to 80% will provide an “industry best” quality of crew and give them the maintenance budget to operate to a very high standard. If you need to go over the 80% area then you may have unusually labor intensive equipment on the yacht. Yes, our yacht operating cost calculator can output a budget suitable for this situation. Adjust the owner use to 2 (minimum value), owner slider to 0, crew slider to 10%, Administration to 10%, Fuel and Dockage to 0, Maintenance to 10% and then Capital Repairs to 0. This will remove all of the large charges associated with owner use and vessel movement but leave the essential base maintenance and insurance in place. Lift on and float in yacht transport is a popular way to transport yachts across large ocean passage. The yachts that this service certainly applies to are ones that may not have the motoring range or structural integrity for blue ocean cruising. The cost of transporting a yacht twice per year is put into our budget once the “Fuel Dockage” slider hits 75%. If your yacht has the range we recommend self-sufficient ocean passages whenever possible. Whilst the transport companies sell their services based upon reportedly well oiled operated schedules the reality is that your yacht may stay waiting for pickup for a week or more with no compensation due. When factoring in all secondary factors of self-sufficient passages (increased fuel, maintenance, potential storm damage, crew time off, extra delivery crew) compared with transporting your yacht (insurance, potential loading / unloading damage, loss of schedule control, no work whilst underway, crew flights, crew accommodation) we believe that there is a 100% premium associated with float in transport and a 75% premium with lift on transport compared with self-powered. Abandoned yachts crash in value. We recommend that even if you are trying to sell your yacht that you use the yacht for a minimum of two weeks per year so that systems are tested and working every six months. There is nothing worse for a yacht than not being used. If you truly are not going to use the yacht then you should sell it immediately for the first genuine offer as every dollar you put into maintenance will not be recovered at the time of the sale. We did not build this version with sailing yachts in mind. Early in our development of this version we decided to exclude sailing yachts as a few of the major cost drivers scale very differently for sailing yachts compared with motor yachts. For example: To calculate paint costs we reviewed the surface area of over 100 large yachts and created a formula for painted surface area to length. Sailing yachts just don’t scale in a consistent way. Similarly crew numbers don’t scale in the same manner that they do for motor yachts. If there is sufficient demand we may build a sailing selector switch into a future version of this tool. We hate to hear when yacht owners were told by their broker to factor in 10% of the purchase price to operate the yacht. This over used saying is sadly right occasionally (particularly for newer yachts in the $20-30M range)… but just because a broken watch tells the right time twice a day you shouldn’t rely upon it to tell the time. As yachts get older their capital value decreases but their maintenance costs increase. There is no way that a fixed 10% of purchase cost rule can be true… if your broker told you this rule then you need a new yacht broker… we know some good ones. 😊 Advanced functionality coming soon…We are building advanced tools to allow you even greater control over our operating cost calculator. Inside the interior of Heesen's 80m flagship superyacht GalacticaRelated articles, superyacht directory. When the 80 metre Heesen superyacht Project Cosmos, now named Galactica , hit the water for the first time in November , superyacht enthusiasts were quick to notice the ferocious pair of teeth custom painted on the superyacht’s bulb. It might have been assumed that this was indicative of an eccentric interior design hiding beneath the sleek exterior but this, according to Paul Costerus of interior design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design , is not the case. He describes the Galactica’s teeth as a “bit of fun”. Inside, however, the owner’s brief for the new Heesen flagship was for a “light” interior, in both light and atmosphere. The studio, which previously collaborated with Heesen on Home , Project Falcon and Galactica Super Nova , also penned the interior of the owner’s previous yacht and was asked to make Galactica’s interior “lighter and brighter” in comparison. “Sometimes,” Costerus explains, “you have an interior that feels as though it’s sitting right on top of you – our goal was to avoid that.” To do this, Sinot focused on “adding light into the interior” with indirect lighting. Key examples include the glass ceilings in the main deck lounge, combined with materials such as faux leathers and woodwork, which add “interesting contrasts.” Another trick was the inclusion of large windows “angled towards the light”. These windows work to “drag” light into the interior and “frame the view”. Sinot also focused on lightening the interior in terms of the weight of the environment, with “light touches of nature” and layers of detailing. Neutral woods and light silks contrast with stained walnut wood and stainless-steel detailing. The carpets meanwhile are made of natural fibres - silk and wool - while the light and dark stones add an extra layer of contrast. The upholstery adds another layer of detailing, with headboards, cushions and wall panels bedecked in different shades of blue, from “sky blues to sea blues”. Up in the skylounge however, the colours change to “reds and oranges” in synergy with the sunsets that will be enjoyed from that area. When it comes to Costerus’ personal favourite space on board, he immediately points to the owner’s cabin. Galactica will be a busy yacht, with a steady flow of the owner’s friends and business colleagues. The owner’s cabin however will remain entirely private and as a result, features a “natural and calm” décor with a higher level of detailing seen elsewhere on the yacht. This is evident in the intricacy of the stitching in the wall panels and headboard, the latter of which could be considered an “art piece”, Costerus says. Unlike the guest cabins, which feature retail light fittings, the light fittings in the owner’s cabin are custom made. “It’s the most luxurious space on board,” Costerus says, “it’s really a showcase of the level of detail that Galactica offers.” Sign up to BOAT Briefing emailLatest news, brokerage headlines and yacht exclusives, every weekday By signing up for BOAT newsletters, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy . YACHTS FOR SALE YACHTS FOR CHARTER CHARTER MANAGEMENT +377 97 77 67 57 SEO by The Agency Yachts for sale Selling a yacht Recent Sale Charter Guide Vitruvius YachtsNew – 80m explorer. Introducing the 80m ultimate explorer concept by Vitruvius Yachts The London-based design studio Vitruvius Yachts has revealed the first details of its latest superyacht concept: an 80m go-anywhere explorer yacht. With the design following closely in the footsteps of Vitruvius’ 54.9-metre Shinkai – built by Feadship in the Netherlands and delivered in 2021 – this new explorer is notable for its long aft deck which is ideal for storing a generous toy collection or even a helipad. Designed to satisfy the most active and adventurous of owners, the explorer boasts a vast beach club and health centre below deck, enabling direct and convenient access to the sea for water sports. This new vessel represents Vitruvius’ take on the ideal explorer superyacht. She maintains her superyacht DNA through the innovative design of her exterior, as well as through the exceptional space and comfort which are offered by her interior. She is also a true explorer through and through, and will have an exceptional autonomous range of 6500 nautical miles to take her owners anywhere in the world. Housing 12 guests across a total of 6 carefully-designed staterooms, the naval architecture of the vessel is informed by the success of Vitruvius’ previous explorer vessel, Shinkai, with her steel hull created for optimal efficiency and adhering to the latest industry criteria for sustainability. With performance and onboard comfort key to the new explorer vessel – she is expected to reach a top speed of 19 knots and cruise with ease at 14 knots – special care has also been given to controlling any rolling motions on board – a trait which is also key for ease of launching her onboard toys such as submarines. Furthermore, the addition of gyro/fin stabilisers is also in consideration for the vessel. Finally, owners can also decide to choose an observatory option for the expedition superyacht, which would provide a 22-square metre space to bring those on board even closer to the beauties of the night sky, wherever they might find themselves in the world. The Secret is OutBoat International FeatureView all articles A $1.4 million vacation? Take a look inside a yacht that costs that much per weekThe 255-foot superyacht Malia sold in 2023 with a price tag of $120 million. But she can be yours for a fraction of the cost: $930,000 per week. But with many large yacht charters, surcharges — for fuel, food, drinks, marina fees, onshore activities and special requests — are usually an additional 35% of the base price. Cruising in Europe also attracts a value-added tax of around 20% of the base fee, but this can vary by country. Crew gratuities are also between 10% to 20% of the charter fee. All in, a week cruising the French Riviera on Malia costs a whopping $1,441,500. For the price, Malia takes guests on stunning tours of the Mediterranean, from Monaco to the Italian Riviera, island-hopping from Sardinia and the Maddalena islands with stops in iconic French hubs like Saint-Tropez. Up to 12 guests can sleep in the yacht's eight state rooms, including a master VIP suite, all with luxury ensuite bathrooms. "The bedrooms are comparable to hotel rooms. You don't feel like you're on a yacht," said Sacha Williams, global charter marketing director at Northrop & Johnson, Malia's broker. "It's like you're in a floating hotel." The main deck has a saloon with a bar and dining area illuminated by full-length windows, as well as an upper deck lounge featuring a striking glass chandelier and an extensive audio-visual system. The decks are connected by an elevator. Like a hotel, the yacht has a gym and spa, the latter with a massage room, sauna and Turkish hammam bath. "On a yacht this size, it's increasingly popular to have a hammam, steam room or sauna," Williams said. "Wellness is definitely a strong trend on all yachts now. The onboard spa therapist does all manner of treatments, not just massage and facials, but all things beauty-related. You could spend an entire day in that space." There's also a glass-edged infinity pool on the main deck and a glass-bottomed Jacuzzi on the sundeck, plus an outdoor theater. Tenders and toysTravelers may pay seven figures for a week on this yacht, but few stay on it the whole time. Malia comes with additional leisure vessels, including several tenders that guests can take to shore. They can also take a deep-sea fishing trip on Malia's 46-foot-extreme sportfishing tender. Additionally, crew can take guests up to six feet underwater in a shark-shaped submersible made by Seabreacher, which seats one pilot and one passenger. "The fishing tender is quite unique, especially in the Mediterranean, as you tend to see these a lot more in the Caribbean and Bahamas, where sportfishing is no big deal. But imagine how cool that would be to just take the children out for the afternoon and go and catch some fish," said Williams. Crew members can also teach guests to use Fliteboard motorized surfboards and to explore underwater with Seabobs. Those who want to relax can sit back for towable joy rides in the sun. Malia's "toy" inventory also includes jet and water skis, plus paddleboards, pedalboards , wakeboards, kayaks, and an inflatable climbing frame with a walkway. "This particular owner is all about fun. He wanted to make sure that he had every possible guest request catered for" said Williams. "You don't see a Fliteboard on every yacht ... they are in high demand." Captain and crewA portion of the charter price goes to paying for the 21-member crew, which includes a captain, engineering and hospitality teams, and several chefs. Some crew members double as personal trainers and have musical skills to entertain in the evenings. "Guests may never even see some of the crew members, like the engineering team," said Williams. "There are people working through the night to ensure the guests' safety. Some will be more involved with the navigation and planning, and arranging berths in ports. The more senior interior crew will also do the bookkeeping, as there's a lot of money being spent to ensure that everyone's having a great time." "The best way I can describe them is like swans," said Williams. "They just glide around." Malia's itineraries are "hyper detailed," Williams said. The yacht's broker and the captain agree on an itinerary that considers guest preferences, sea conditions and weather forecasts. But the captain can also consider requests to modify the schedule mid-charter — for example, if guests are enjoying a particular location and want to stay longer, Williams said: "That's the beauty of chartering a yacht." Who books vacations like thisMalia's guests tend to be North American, European and Middle Eastern, Williams said. Typically, they have built their wealth in highly niche areas of business, she said. "I've always been surprised by some of the North American clients as to how they've generated this amount of wealth from selling items that can appear quite banal. But I guess the size of the country means that you can become very successful selling something as simple as eggs or screws," she said. "Sometimes you'll see the principal — the person footing the bill — charter Malia for a few weeks, and invite different groups during that time. One week, they'll be with their friends, and then the friends will move on and then their family will join, then their parents." But many guests book the yacht for family vacations and celebrations, she said. "They may be celebrating a birthday or wedding anniversary, or just a family get-together. On a yacht the size of Malia, you can have the grandparents, the parents and the children."

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A woman suffered serious injuries late Wednesday, Aug. 14, when the boat she was riding in struck the south pier on Lake Michigan near Holland State Park. The woman, 18, was thrown into the water and rocks on the channel side of the pier and was rescued by another boat passenger, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said. The teen suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. A 69-year-old Holland man was operating a 26-foot boat when it crashed into the south pier about 75 yards east of the navigational beacon at the end of the pier, police said. The injured woman was thrown into the channel that leads to Lake Macatawa. She and two other woman, ages 19 and 22, all from Holland, were on the boat. Sheriff’s deputies and Park Township firefighters responded to a report of a boat crash with one person in the water. One of the passengers had already pulled the injured woman out of the water. She was taken by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital. The crash remains under investigation, police said. Stories by John Agar

Hundreds of firefighters in Greece were battling a major wildfire on Monday that broke out near Athens a day earlier and has raced through parched forest, destroying properties and prompting evacuation orders, according to the authorities. The fire started on Sunday afternoon in Varnavas, a town less than 30 miles north of Athens by road, and spread rapidly within minutes because of high winds, Greece’s national fire service said. In some places, the flames were more than 80 feet tall. A spokesman for the fire service, Vassilios Vathrakogiannis, said that despite “superhuman efforts” to contain the fire overnight, it had spread “like lightning.” The “extremely dangerous” fire was still burning Monday on two major fronts, according to Greece’s civil protection minister, Vassilis Kikilias: in Grammatiko, northeast of Athens, and Kallitechnoupoli, to the east of Athens. He added that strong winds and a protracted drought had created “dramatic conditions” for the more than 600 firefighters working to douse the flames. Flames spread in the suburb of Vrilissia near Athens on Monday. Two women embraced in Varnavas after being rescued on Sunday. The blaze is one of the worst to threaten Athens, the capital, this year in what has been a busy fire season for the country, in part because of a dry winter and an exceptionally hot summer . Greece’s civil protection authority placed several areas, including Athens, at “ extreme fire risk ” — the highest level of risk in the country’s five-tier system — for Monday. Fire reached Vrilissia, an affluent suburb north of Athens. Television footage showed thick smoke there and at least one person spraying water from the roof of a house in an attempt to extinguish the flames. Greece appealed to European partners for help and is expecting aircraft from France and Italy, as well as 75 firefighters and 25 vehicles from the Czech Republic, the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministry said in a statement . A car burned in Varnavas on Sunday. Firefighters tried to extinguish flames in Dionysos, north of Athens, on Monday. The authorities have ordered at least a dozen communities to evacuate, and television footage on Sunday showed motorists fleeing as flames lined the road near Varnavas. A children’s hospital, a military hospital and two monasteries were also evacuated. Greece’s Olympic sports complex, north of Athens, was opened overnight to house residents who had to abandon their homes. There were no reports of casualties, though at least one firefighter experienced burns and several people were given first aid for breathing problems, a spokesman for the fire service said. The full extent of the damage to forestland and homes was not immediately clear. Firefighters helped a woman evacuate the village of Dione on Monday. Firefighters battled a fire in Dionysos on Monday. A resident covered his face in Dione on Monday. A firefighting plane dropped water on a hillside in Grammatiko, near Athens, on Monday. A house burned in Nea Penteli on Monday. An earlier version of this article and earlier versions of picture captions with it misspelled the name of a town in Greece. It is Varnavas, not Varnava.
