Why: Choose a Mediterranean Yacht Charter?

Mediterranean yacht charter vacations are always by far and away the most popular summer location. You can read hundreds of our client endorsements here . Think the French Riviera, Monaco, Italy, Croatia, Sardinia, Spain and Greece. This is where most of the large crewed superyachts are concentrated and this is where also where you will find a huge variety of interesting places and cultures to experience. The Mediterranean (or Med’ for short) has everything. The area covers a large diversity of countries, cultures landscapes and experiences. Yet, the fantastic thing is that they are relatively close together, so you can create convenient and action packed itineraries very easily. On top of this, the yachting infrastructure in Europe is second to none so there are dozens of beautiful marinas filled with beautiful private superyachts and mega yachts that can be chartered as well as all the shops, restaurants, bars and conveniences that you could need. Because of its popularity the Mediterranean has an incredible choice of charter boats available to rent, both motor (power) yachts and sailing yachts, including the ever more widespread large luxury private superyacht charters.

How Much Does it Cost To Charter a Yacht in The Mediterranean?

Mediterranean yacht charter prices vary according to the size, style and age of the yacht. Our luxury superyacht charter yachts rent from 30,000 Euro to over 1,000,000 per week, plus expenses, in the form of an advanced provisioning allowance (APA). Conversely, smaller 'all inclusive' type vacations cost between Euro 15,000 to 50,000 per week. Here is the full list of all the charter yachts and here are the current Mediterranean yachts with special discounted prices .

Timing & Weather: The Mediterranean Yachting Season

The Mediterranean yachting season generally runs from April to the end of October. During the height of the season, in July and August, the climate is warm and sunny and the winds tend to be light. While this is the high season for all tourism, you can still easily avoid onshore tourists while afloat. The weather can also be good during the shoulder seasons.

Tip: Shoulder Season Means Value & Choice

Another good time to charter your yacht is generally on either of the shoulder seasons from April-May and September-October. These periods fall each side of the main summer season when the temperatures are still comfortable. September, for instance, is an underrated time of the year because the weather is usually good (if not too hot) but the sea is at its maximum temperature which is ideal for swimming. At this time there is greater choice of berths and anchorages for your boating vacation and the onshore tourists are not present in their largest numbers.

If sleeping arrangements, including the placement of cabins, are an important consideration, then let your charter broker know.

Are kids allowed on a yacht charter?

Of course, kids are welcome aboard a yacht charter in the Mediterranean. Most yachts welcome nannies, too, with some larger superyachts having additional staff rooms specifically for nannies. A typical crew will include a captain, deck crew, interior crew, and a private chef. Additional crew may include a sommelier, personal fitness trainer, and beauty therapists. The exact roles of the crew will depend on the size and type of your vessel, but you can expect:

  • A captain who is responsible for navigating the yacht and ensuring that all safety regulations are followed
  • Deck crew who take care of the yacht’s exterior, including maintenance tasks such as cleaning, refueling the vessel, water sports activities, and more
  • Interior crew who provide five-star guest services such as serving meals, drinks, cleaning and maintaining the interior, including staterooms, laundry, and more
  • A chef who will prepare gourmet meals to your liking.

Ultimately, the crew will strive to make your experience enjoyable and stress-free by handling even the smallest details during your luxury yacht charter.

Can I decide which meals will be made onboard a yacht charter?

Yes, the menu is completely up to you. You and all guests will provide a preference sheet prior to embarking so the chef and interior crew can provision and have all of your favorites aboard the yacht.

Sailing over shimmering waters to destinations rich in history and natural beauty: what more could anyone want in a boating holiday? Famous sites from antiquity, white sand beaches painted on an azure ocean, quaint villages overflowing with cultural flavors, and culinary delights you will hunger for.

With its huge diversity of travel experiences, the Mediterranean has something to offer everyone who likes to go sailing. Italy, Greece and Croatia are the most popular cruising destinations, while there's much to enjoy about sailing in the Balearic Islands, Turkey and the South of France. All are covered in our comprehensive guide to Mediterranean yacht charters.

Taking the Work out of a Mediterranean Charter

With all the great destinations on offer, choosing a charter boat in the Mediterranean can be complicated, even confusing. For smooth sailing, it is essential that you sail with an experienced and reputable boat operating company. During more than 20 years in the charter business, we have developed a network of only the best operators - people who we know can be relied on to take care of you, our client. We will match the right yacht from the best operator to your budget, comfort requirements and boat-handling experience.

Our team members have spent a lot of time sailing in the Mediterranean, checking out the boats on offer and the way they are managed. And of course that gives us first-hand experience of the destinations too, valuable knowldge that we want to share.

In the Mediterranean, the suitably-able sailor finds bareboat sailing and boat handling quite straightforward. For extra leisure time, there's always the option of adding a skipper, who takes responsibility for the boat and getting you to where you want to go.

Alternatively, charter fully-crewed, engaging a cook as well as skipper for the ulitimate in relaxation. Even experienced sailors often prefer to hire a crew, which we carefully select in consultation with our operators. Your hired crew not only take care of all the work, but are also willing local guides. They'll recommend the best places to see and best things to do en route, and get you up close to the culture and lifestyles in the places you will visit.

When enlisting our help to organise your charter in the Mediterranean -or anywhere else - you pay no more for our service.

History and Culture

Ancient ruins at sunset in charter location greece

The Mediterranean sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean, bordering more than 22 different countries, and over 3,000 islands, the largest two being the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia.  Its name comes from two Latin words: 'Medius” (Middle) and “Terra” (Earth/Soil), roughly translated as the center of the Earth, and the sea itself is thought to be more than 5 million years old.

In terms of Mediterranean culture, there isn't a one size fits all approach — each and every country in the region has their own. But we can say that there are some overarching themes: an appreciation of the finer things in life being one of them: of nature and of cuisine.

Types of Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean

Motor Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean

As for yacht types, those with planing hulls are perfect if you want to zip through locations at speed quickly. However, they are usually less stable at anchor.

Displacement and semi-displacement hulls are slower and make up most of the global charter fleet, They are more comfortable, voluminous, and more stable with at anchor stabilizers.

Sailing Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean

Selecting a luxury crewed  sailing yacht charter in the Mediterranean is a wonderful choice for guests looking for a slower vacation pace, where you will be wooed by the sailing yacht's old-school charm. Plus, with most sailing conditions in the Mediterranean being extremely favorable, typified by calm seas and light winds (apart from the Meltemi at certain times in Turkey and Greece), this is absolutely a sailing paradise.

And with an extensive selection of catamarans, monohulls and racer sailers available, it won't be difficult to find a charter sailing yacht in the Mediterranean that will meet your requirements.

Gulet Charters in the Mediterranean

Turkish Gulets blue water cruising

In  Turkey  & Croatia you also have an additional charter option: the possibility of renting a gulet  with a full crew. Gulets are traditionally Turkish-built wooden motor sailor yachts which are usually much larger in volume than your average sailing yacht, with an abundance of open-plan living spaces.

Turkish gulet yachts are less expensive than other charter vessels of the same size, and can often offer all-inclusive or semi-inclusive packages, meaning you don’t need to worry about additional expenses such as food and drink. They also normally include a standard number of cruising hours per day.  Plus, their crew are often local to the region that they cruise in, meaning they can double as tour guides and can provide a lot of valuable expertise.

You can visit Greek Islands on your Turkish gulet charter vacation, but you will need to embark and disembark in a port in Turkey unless it has a Greek Charter Licence - which is very rare.

Gulets are not available in the West Mediterranean cruising areas.

How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Yacht in the Mediterranean?

The average price of a motor yacht or sailing yacht rental in the Mediterranean will depend on several factors, including the vessel's age, type, crew, as well as the duration of the vacation and whether it is high or low season.

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget. For convenience we have listed the average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in the Mediterranean below;

  • For motor yacht rentals in the Mediterranean, prices can range from $31,541 to $1.6m per week, plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in the Mediterranean, prices can go from $20,491 to $532,784 weekly, plus expenses

One aspect to keep in mind is that there are important distinctions to be made between the average costs for West Mediterranean and East Mediterranean yachting vacations. While exact costs can vary from yacht to yacht, typically, West Mediterranean yacht charters will involve newer, larger vessels and include a high-quality, international workforce, and therefore tend to usually incur higher prices. Meanwhile, East Mediterranean yacht charters will usually use older vessels and feature highly knowledgeable local crews.

The best time for a yachting vacation on the Mediterranean is between May and August, although weather is still pleasant in the shoulder months of April and September, with some East Mediterranean locations experiencing high temperatures well into October (Croatia, Turkey, Greece).

Yacht charter guests in the Mediterranean during these months can expect mellow seas, cloudless skies  long, sunbaked days and low rainfall.

However, if you are looking to evade the crowds and the heat, avoid July and August.

Where Should I Begin My Mediterranean Yacht Charter?

iconic yacht rental destination french riviera

France is by far the most popular starting point for the classic "Mediterranean milk-run charter" route (Saint Tropez to Portofino), with this term coined in the industry to reflect the most celebrated and chicest locations along the Côte d'Azur.

The best place to begin a Mediterranean yacht charter is in Nice for itineraries along the coast and towards the Italian Riviera, with the majority of guests flying into Nice Airport before being chauffeured to its port or Antibes. Cannes Vieux Port (which is a mere 30-minute drive from Nice's Airport) is also popular if beginning further west towards Saint-Tropez .

Ibiza is also a popular starting point for Balearics charters, while Positano and Ajaccio are useful embarkation ports for Amalfi Coast and Corsica yacht charters respectively.

For East Mediterranean itineraries, Athens is a popular choice for charters around Greece's Aegean archipelagos, with the highest concentration of yacht rentals, while superyachts cruising the Ionian and Adriatic Coast tend to be flexible, with charters embarking from any number of popular destinations; from Venice  in Italy down to Corfu  in Greece's Ionian Islands.

Popular Marinas and Moorings in the Mediterranean

Aerial view of charter yachts moored in port

There are many marinas in the Mediterranean, but there are some, especially within the French and Italian Riviera that are highly coveted such as St Tropez and Portofino, which means mooring costs in this region in the summer tend to be highest and availability is often extremely limited.

If you would like to spend a night in port while on your charter yacht in the Mediterranean, be sure to make this clear to your crew or your charter broker well in advance, as there is strong competition for slips.

Below is our selection of some of the finest and most popular marinas in the Mediterranean:

French Riviera Marinas

  • Vieux Port de Cannes  and Port Pierre Canto in Cannes, both cater to all sizes of yachts and with 1,200 berths.
  • Port Cogolin  in Saint Tropez, which boasts 1,600 berths for yachts of up to 50m/164ft, and Port Vauban in Antibes, which caters to yachts up to a 165m/541ft LOA.
  • Port de Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat , located near the idyllic village of Villefranche-sur-Mer. This marina has 560 berths that can accommodate yachts up to 60m/197ft in length.

Italian Riviera Marinas

  • Marina di Loano , not far from the French border can accommodate 900 vessels up to 77m/252ft in length.
  • Porto Mirabello , in La Spezia caters to yachts of up to 100m/328ft, and a perfect point for exploring the region's jaw-droppingly pretty Cinque Terre.

Amalfi Coast Marinas

  • Marina di Stabia  is one of the most popular places to begin a yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast, and boasts luxury facilities and the capacity to host yachts measuring up to 100m.

Marina Piccola  in Sorrento has 280 berths, catering to yachts measuring up to 40m.

Corsica Marinas

  • Port Ajaccio Tino Rossi , the capital's largest marina, has 300 slips and caters to yachts of up to 100m/328ft
  • Port Calvi , located in the northwest with 150 berths for yachts up to 65m/213ft LOA.
  • Port de Plaisance Saint-Florent  ,a pretty marina tucked away in the north with 920 slips, and in close proximity to vineyards and the stunning Saleccia beach.

Popular Marinas in Greece

Kos Marina , close to the enchanting island's old harbor, this marina has a capacity for up to 250 berths with a maximum length of 80m.

Gouvia Marina , Corfu's most popular, situated in a secluded bay, with mooring of yachts of up to 80m, and boasts 1235 slips.

Athens Marina , accommodating 130 slips measuring up to 130m. Provides plenty of amenities on land, including a helipad service.

Popular Marinas in Croatia and Montenegro

  • D-Marin Mandalina (Šibenik) , an award-winning marina set between two national parks in a naturally protected lagoon, with 429 sea berths for yachts up to 140m LOA and all modern marina facilities.
  • ACI Marina Split , 5-star marina offering 318 protected berths, accommodating superyachts up to 90m LOA, in the heart of Croatia’s jewel.
  • Porto Montenegro , award-winning marina offering an array of five star facilities, including a vibrant marina village, upscale bars, restaurants, designer emporiums and high-end boutiques, and catering to yachts up to 250m LOA.

Popular Marinas in Turkey

Kaş Marina , recently developed and has capacity for 450 yachts.

D-Marin Marina , tucked away in protected natural cove minutes from central Göcek with a 380 slip capacity for yachts up to 70m.

Setur Antalya Marina , renowned superyacht marina, capacity reaches 235 yachts.

Where to End a Mediterranean Yacht Charter

Superyachts moored in Bonifacio port in Corsica

Portofino is one of the best places to disembark your Mediterranean yacht charter if you are embarking on the typical week-long yachting vacation along 'the milk run' (incorporating destinations in the French Riviera and Ligurian Coast). Guests usually take a helicopter back to Nice or Genoa airport.

For two-week-long Mediterranean charter vacations, Bonifacio is one of the most popular places to finish a private yacht charter in the Mediterranean due to its outstanding natural beauty. It boasts one of the most stunning port entrances in Europe, bordered by soaring limestone cliffs on one side, and on the other its impressive medieval old town teeters on a hilltop. Upon leaving, guests are chauffeured to nearby Ajaccio international airport.

For East Mediterranean charters, Athens is a popular disembarkation port, as well as Porto Montenegro and Dubrovnik or Split on the Adriatic Coast, all of which offer good transport links with international airports.

The mediterranean yacht charter itineraries.

Our extensive range of Mediterranean yacht charter itineraries has been carefully curated by industry experts to ensure your luxury yacht charter in the Mediterranean is nothing short of magical. Browse our selection of itineraries by the number of days you intend to charter a yacht as well as the specific regions you are interested in.

If you are chartering a yacht in the Mediterranean for the first time, we strongly recommend the classic 7-day Mediterranean yacht charter route. Also known as the 'milk-run': a term coined by industry professionals to reflect the most refined locations along the Côte d'Azur, this itinerary begins in show-stopping St.Tropez, cruises towards the Italian Riviera and ends in sun-soaked Portofino. For 14-day luxury Mediterranean charters, incorporating Corsica into an itinerary is also a perennially popular choice.

Mediterranean Yacht Charter Q&A

We advise booking your Mediterranean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Mediterranean.

One of the wonderful aspects about renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is the exceedingly long season. For example in West Mediterranean locations like France, Spain and Italy, the best time to visit is usually from May until September. This balmy weather extends to well into October in East Mediterranean destinations like Greece, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey.

For your Mediterranean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.

When booking a Mediterranean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

Please consult your yacht charter broker for any other costs you may need to factor in for your yacht charter in the Mediterranean.

This post will guide you through the top Mediterranean yachting destinations, providing key insights to help you choose the perfect spot for your next sailing adventure.

Understanding the Mediterranean Climate for Yachting

The Mediterranean climate sets the perfect stage for yachting adventures. Characterized by dry, hot summers and mild, wet winters, it offers optimal conditions for sailing. In summer, from June to August, the sea is calm and the winds are predictable, making it the ideal time for yachting. However, the shoulder seasons of spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, enhancing the overall yachting experience. Understanding these seasonal patterns can help you plan your Mediterranean yachting trip to perfection.

The Best Time for Yachting in the Mediterranean

The Mediterranean, with its azure waters and sunny climate, is a dream yachting destination. However, the best time for yachting in the Mediterranean is during the summer months, from May to October. During this period, the weather is warm and pleasant, with minimal chances of rain. It’s also the perfect time to explore the Mediterranean’s beautiful beaches, historic sites, and delicious cuisine. Keep in mind that the peak season is July and August, when the region gets quite crowded. If you prefer a quieter experience, consider planning your trip in the shoulder months of May, June, September, or October.

The Best Advice You Can Hear Regarding A Private Charter to the Mediterranean

Ask questions and discuss your needs and expectations with us to make sure that you understand what a yacht holiday entails.

Plan accordingly. We offer private charter hire with crew or cabin charter options if you wish to share a cabin and get to know new people. Pack accordingly as space on board is limited. You only need the basics and your swimwear, and perhaps a pair of fancy shoes to dress up for an island restaurant. Leave your jewellery and unnecessary extras at home.

Location stops. Our private boat charter in the Mediterranean includes the beautiful Greek Islands while you can expect stops at Melissani Cave, the home of Odysseus in Vathi as well as a visit to the Blue Caves.

Included services. We offer an all-inclusive experience with a skipper and hostess that will serve your meals and do the cooking and cleaning for you, so the only item on your agenda is to relax. We can also customise an itinerary for you should you not prefer the standard ones.

Added Services we Offer at Med Sailing Holidays

A trip to the Mediterranean in itself is already highly exciting, but with our themed week programmes, the seven days on the water can become even more of a special-interest adventure.

Yoga week. One of our “week experiences” is a yoga cruise. While you can still enjoy the standard itinerary, we have the added feature of a yoga instructor on board, to keep your body and mind healthy and moving in limited space.

Gay week. If you prefer to enjoy the week in the spirit of Gay Pride. We have an all-gay crew to add to the vibe of your guests, with Speedo Sunday and Undie Monday on the yacht. We also include a White Party on the party island as the cherry on top.

We further offer a Wine, Fitness and Dive experience, each custom made to suit the theme. The wine and fitness week both take place on the Croatia sail holiday while the dive week takes place in both Croatia and Greece.

Why Med Sailing Holidays is Cost-Effective

We’re a privately-owned sailing holiday company that caters to individual needs, and we adapt itinerary and services accordingly. If you are on a solo quest, you can even share a cabin to save on costs while not compromising on luxury. Contact us to book your charter holiday today.

Private Charter

I went on the trip alone last year and liked it so much that I brought my best friend to the trip this year! They made it feel exclusive and private with a lot of activities options we can choose based on own interest and own pace - no rush whatsoever. Food on board was fabulous! I would highly recommend it to anyone who fancy a proper break with a five star service!

Loved our recent sailing trip from Split to Dubrovnik. Awesome skipper Joe took us to amazing places such as Vis and Brac, finishing in stunning national park of Miljet. Great food throughout the trip by our host Olivia. Both made our trip as a group special and very easy. We will be back!

An incredible week sailing in beautiful Croatia aboard Sea Princess. Everything was so well organised and we couldn't have wished for a better group and crew to share this amazing journey. It's impossible to find words to describe the beauty of Croatia and sailing is by far the best way to explore it. Can't recommend it enough and will definitely be coming back for some more. Next destination the Greek islands

The primary boats we run for our sailing holidays in Croatia are Beneteau Oceanis 48 , which run full time and can be booked for a private charter.  We operate a full-time skipper and hostess on our Croatian sailing holidays and the boat can be booked on a Split to Dubrovnik one-way itinerary (or vice versa) for the ultimate 'tasting plate of Croatia' private charter.

The Oceanis 48 is an exceptional boat for a private charter in Croatia , as she has 4 x double cabins available, allowing up to 8 guests in cabins and an additional 2 in the saloon.  There are 2 master aft cabins and 2 forward cabins. The cockpit boasts the largest seating area on sailing boats in her class, giving you more room and comfort while sailing the Dalmatian coast, lounging and dining alfresco. The Oceanis 48 is spacious and a beautiful cruiser, perfect for your Croatian sailing holiday .

We operate a Lagoon 42 catamaran for our Greek Island private charter out of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea.  Our Greece sailing holidays are in the Ionian Sea for the calmest weather and for the most authentic Greek sailing holiday experience.

If you'd like a catamaran or luxury boat in Greece or Croatia , we can offer you a base-to-base itinerary (either Split to Split, or Lefkas to Lefkas) and will find the best boat available for your dates and budget.

If your group has special occasion, just as a honeymoon, birthday, anniversary or 'just because' let us know and we'll go to work to put on the best island hopping private charter in Croatia or Greece for you.

When you book a private charter, whether that be in Croatia , Greece , Caribbean or any other location you are booking the private and exclusive usage of the yacht for you and your group. You may want a private celebration for your friends, family or just for a special getaway with your special someone.

By booking a private charter you are giving yourself more freedom, flexibility with the itinerary, port selection (within reason) and the amount of time you spend in beautiful bays relaxing or arriving in port early to make the most of the islands.

Advantages of booking a private charter is already knowing who will be on the boat, as it’d be your group and you can remove any anxiety about what the other guests will be like. You know that you’d have restful mornings and can conduct yourselves how you want in the evenings, whether that be civilized conversation over a wine, relaxing on the deck watching the shooting stars or turning the music up and having a little dance.

If you have any other special requests on your private charter, be sure to let us know in advance so we’re able to plan accordingly for any birthday surprises, meal requests or additional water toys.

  • What's covered in the price? If you want an all inclusive package: The price includes your boat, on board meals (breakfast & lunch), your crew, *fuel, marina fees, water, taxes, final cleaning fee and insurance. *There is a fuel allowance You just need to cover your restaurant dinner, taxis, excursions, BYO alcohol/mixes and crew gratuities. Yes, you will need to block an amount on your credit card (between €1,500-€3,000 and higher for the large catamarans) to allow for any damages to the boat or outboard that is cause by yourself or any of your guests. Travelling in the Mediterranean

As there are several countries and shores located along the Mediterranean Sea, we can choose from various opportunities to reach our destination. Browsing through the flights offered by the different airlines, we may get very cheap tickets if we book on time. We can consider going by car or taking a train between two countries; however, the greatest experience is exploring by renting a boat. This way the travel itself becomes an experience of a lifetime, and we will be able to see places that we couldn’t discover any other way.

Taking Your Sailboat on Holiday: A Comprehensive Guide To Boat Shipping

outdoor with family bareboat

Sailing holidays offer an unparalleled blend of adventure, relaxation, and a connection with nature. However, getting your sailboat to your chosen destination can be a challenge. Boat shipping is a practical solution, ensuring your vessel arrives safely and efficiently. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of boat shipping, covering everything from preparation to cost considerations.

Understanding Boat Shipping

Boat shipping involves transporting your sailboat via a truck, ship, or a combination of transport modes. The method chosen depends on the distance, the size of the boat, and your destination. There are two primary types of boat shipping: overland transport and sea freight.

Overland Transport

Overland transport is ideal for domestic or relatively short international trips. Specialized boat transport companies use trailers designed to cradle and secure sailboats, preventing damage during transit.

Sea Freight

For longer distances, particularly transcontinental trips, sea freight is often the best option. Your boat can be transported on a cargo ship, either on deck or in a container, depending on its size.

Preparing Your Sailboat for Shipping

Proper preparation is crucial to ensure your sailboat arrives at its destination without damage. Here are the key steps to follow:

music for sailing

1. Clean Your Boat

Thoroughly clean your sailboat , removing any dirt, algae, and barnacles. This prevents invasive species from spreading to other ecosystems and allows for a detailed inspection of the hull for any pre-existing damage.

2. Inspect and Document

Inspect your boat for any damage, taking detailed photographs and notes. This documentation will be essential if you need to claim on your insurance for any damage sustained during transport.

3. Secure Loose Items

Remove or securely fasten all loose items on your sailboat. This includes sails, rigging, electronics, and personal items. Anything that could shift during transport poses a risk of damage.

4. Drain Fluids

Drain any water from your boat’s bilge and remove as much fuel as possible. This reduces the weight and minimizes the risk of leaks during transport.

5. Protect Fragile Parts

Protect fragile parts of your sailboat , such as the mast and antennas, by wrapping them in protective material. Disassemble and package these items separately if necessary.

Choosing a Boat Shipping Company

Selecting a reputable company to  transport your boat  is crucial. Here are some factors to consider:

1. Experience and Reputation

Choose a company with a proven track record in boat shipping. Read reviews and ask for recommendations from other boat owners.

2. Insurance Coverage

Ensure the company provides adequate insurance coverage for your sailboat during transport. Review the policy details to understand what is covered and consider purchasing additional insurance if necessary.

3. Cost Estimates

Obtain detailed cost estimates from multiple companies. Be wary of prices that seem too good to be true, as they may reflect subpar service.

Cost Considerations

The cost of shipping your sailboat depends on several factors:

1. Distance

Longer distances naturally incur higher costs due to increased fuel and labor expenses.

2. Size and Weight

Larger and heavier sailboats require more resources to transport, increasing the overall cost.

3. Transport Method

Due to the complexity and resources involved, sea freight generally costs more than overland transport.

Shipping costs can vary seasonally, with higher prices during peak times when demand is greater.

Final Thoughts

Shipping your sailboat for a holiday adventure can be a straightforward process with proper planning and preparation. By choosing a reputable shipping company and taking the necessary steps to prepare your boat, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free transport experience. With your sailboat ready to explore new waters, you can fully enjoy the unique pleasures of a sailing holiday.

'Yacht trip to Russia': Senators publish list of Clarence Thomas’ gifts from benefactors

T wo Senate Democrats have published a list of roughly three dozen lavish gifts Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas received from right-wing billionaires during his time on the Court.

On the eve of the Independence Day holiday, Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-Rhode Island) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate Thomas for "possible violations of ethics and tax laws" in his "repeated and willful omissions" of gifts from wealthy benefactors.

"The scale of the potential ethics violations by Justice Thomas, and the willful pattern of disregard for ethics laws, exceeds the conduct of other government officials investigated by the Department of Justice for similar violations," Whitehouse and Wyden wrote. "The breadth of the omissions uncovered to date, and the serious possibility of additional tax fraud and false statement violations by Justice Thomas and his associates, warrant the appointment of a Special Counsel to investigate this misconduct."

READ MORE: Expert: Clarence Thomas could face 'criminal prosecution' by not paying taxes on gifts

On page 14 of the PDF Whitehouse posted to his Senate website, there are two lists of gifts to Thomas. The first list describes gifts from far-right real estate magnate Harlan Crow, and the second list shows gifts from other wealthy sponsors, like entrepreneur Anthony Welters — who "loaned" Thomas a luxury RV and then later forgave the loan — and billionaire Wayne Huizenga.

The gifts from Crow date back to 2003, and list excursions like "Yacht trip to Russia and the Baltics" and Helicopter to Yusipov Palace, St. Petersburg." Out of the roughly two dozen gifts Crow gave to Thomas, four are private school tuition payments for his grand-nephew. Many of Crow's other gifts were private jet flights and yacht cruises, including one Sens. Whitehouse and Wyden described as "around Greek islands."

And out of the gifts on the second list, three were from Huizenga, two were from Welters, and five were from former Berkshire Hathaway board member David Sokol. Billionaire Warren Buffett, who owns Berkshire Hathaway, forced Sokol out in 2011 after he learned that Sokol bought a stake in a company he later convinced Buffett's company to buy. Buffett called Sokol's actions "inexplicable" and "inexcusable."

"No government official should be above the law. Supreme Court justices are properly expected to obey laws designed to prevent conflicts of interest and the appearance of impropriety and to comply with the federal tax code," the senators wrote. "We therefore request that you appoint a Special Counsel authorized to investigate potential criminal violations by Justice Thomas under the disclosure, false statement, and tax laws; pursue leads of related criminal violations by donors, lenders and intermediate corporate entities; and determine whether any such loans and gifts were provided pursuant to a coordinated enterprise or plan."

READ MORE: Clarence Thomas cut off contact with man he raised 'as a son' — now he faces decades in prison

In 2023, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter Davide Cay Johnston commented that it was possible Thomas could face " criminal prosecution " by not paying taxes on the previously undisclosed gifts from Crow and others. He opined that any lower-level court judge would not be able to avoid the charges if they failed to pay taxes on gifts worth millions of dollars.

"What Clarence Thomas has done would result in not only any judges in America being removed from the bench, but there is a good chance it would result in criminal prosecution for income tax fraud and for false filings in his mandatory financial ethics disclosure statements," Johnston said in December.

Last month, anti-corruption watchdog group Fix the Court totaled Thomas' gifts and found that the conservative jurist had received approximately $4 million in gifts dating back to 2004 – far more than any other justice on the Supreme Court. And of the 193 gifts Thomas received, he only listed 27 on his required financial disclosure reports.

It's Mark Zuckerberg's turn to have a hot yacht summer

  • Mark Zuckerberg's new yacht, Launchpad, is enjoying its summer debut.
  • The megayacht recently stopped in Mallorca and has since ventured further into the Mediterranean.
  • It looks like Zuckerberg may dethrone Jeff Bezos as king of this year's superyacht season .

Insider Today

Move over, Jeff Bezos . Mark Zuckerberg is looking like this summer's Poseiden.

While the Amazon founder made waves last year with the debut of his megayacht Koru, Zuckerberg is the name on the yacht world's lips this season.

Rumors began surfacing in March that the Meta CEO had purchased Launchpad — a Dutch-built, 118-meter motor yacht originally built for a Russian oligarch.

By May, the transaction seemed all but confirmed when both the yacht and Zuckerberg made their way to Panama to celebrate his 40th birthday with a fete that included a few spins on his infamous hydrofoil .

Now that summer is here, Zuckerberg has debuted Launchpad — and her support superyacht Wingman — on the biggest stage in the yachting world: the Mediterranean.

Related stories

Zuckerberg this month treated his family to a trip aboard Launchpad off the coast of Mallorca. The family, sporting matching t-shirts, celebrated Father's Day and Zuckerberg's dad's 70th birthday, he wrote in a caption posted to Instagram. Local news outlets spotted Zuckerberg, his wife Priscilla Chan, and their three daughters on the Spanish island and aboard the yacht, which was outfitted with water slides and other toys.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mark Zuckerberg (@zuck)

From there, the yacht sailed to the Ligurian Sea, the spit of the Mediterranean between the Italian Riviera and Corsica.

It's likely the yacht will continue to crisscross the Mediterranean this summer. If Zuckerberg continues to post photos of his travels, we may glean more details about how he has customized the ship to his liking.

For now little is known beyond the fact that she is built by Feadship, the shipyard behind Larry Ellison's Musashi . Photos from SuperYacht Times show Launchpad features a large swimming pool and helipad. The final purchase price is not public, but a new yacht of that size would likely cost nine figures upfront and millions of dollars a year to maintain.

Perhaps, like Bezos did last year, Zuckerberg will entertain some of the most famous names in entertainment or business. ( Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, had an engagement party last year aboard Koru that counted Bill Gates and Leonardo DiCaprio as guests. On Friday, Bezos and Sanchez were spotted riding wave runners in the Aegean Sea alongside Kim Kardashian near the 127-meter yacht). Alternatively, Zuckerberg might prefer the privacy that is paramount to many in the superyacht world.

Whether Zuckerberg shows up as a bon vivant or doting family man this summer, Launchpad fits well into one of the most successful CEO rebrands in recent years, in which Zuckerberg went from being perceived as a robotic, mistrusted tech nerd to a kind-of-relatable, fun, fit tech bro.

Now he's got one of the largest yachts in the world to add to his cool factor (even though, regrettably for Zuckerberg, it is a mortifying nine meters shorter than Koru).

Magic, 64, and his wife Earlitha "Cookie" Johnson , 65, have shared several updates on their annual Mediterranean vacation via Instagram, many of which feature their friends and traveling companions LaTanya and Samuel L. Jackson ; John and Vicki Palmer; and Cedric the Entertainer and Lorna Wells.

On Saturday, July 6, the NBA legend shared an Instagram post of himself posing in front of a glorious sunset from the boat while in Spain. "Look at the amazing sunrise I got to enjoy at 6 am this morning before my workout in Spain," he wrote in the caption.

Magic wore casual attire in the photo, which showed him leaning against a couch on the yacht's deck. He opted for a gray and blue Los Angeles Baseball T-shirt with matching blue pants.

That same day, he shared a collaborative post with his wife of over 30 years that showcased the group’s visit to the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma in Mallorca, Spain.

“Today, we had an amazing day exploring in Palma de Mallorca, Spain with our friends! We visited one of the largest Mediterranean Gothic churches in Spain that took over 400 years to build," the Believing in Magic author wrote in the caption.

Cookie went on to praise the church for its "beautiful" stained-glass windows. "I definitely recommend a visit if you’re in Spain, we were all in awe," Cookie added.

The carousel showed Magic and Cookie embracing one another while sitting outside, a group snap inside of the cathedral, and videos and photos of the landmark's interior as they explored.

In a post from Friday, July 5, the athlete gave insight into how he spent the Fourth of July holiday while traveling. “A great day celebrating the Fourth of July with our friends overseas," he wrote in a caption.

In the first photo of the post, the Johnsons were smiling as they posed with the Palmers and Jacksons, all of whom were dressed for the holiday. The inside of the boat was adorned with red, white and blue balloons, along with other themed decor.

The crew chimed in on the celebration as Magic posted a video of them dancing with American flags as the friend group cheered along. The festivities also included a donut wall with themed desserts.

That same day, Magic shared a video of himself having a "magical start" to his morning by "cutting loose" on a jet ski. At the start of the clip, he raises his hand to wave at the camera.

The group kicked off their summer vacation on July 1 with the basketball player announcing their trip via an Instagram post with the caption: "We are officially on vacation!! 😁 Hanging out with our great friends John and Vicki Palmer and Sam and LaTanya Jackson at Boca Grande in Barcelona, Spain! The food was *chef’s kiss*."

The following day, Magic shared videos to his Instagram Stories of their views of the Spanish island of Ibiza from the yacht.

While visiting the Mediterranean destination, the group dressed up to dine at the "farm-to-table" Can Palau De Dalt restaurant, located in the Casa Maca Hotel.

In the same post, Magic shared a photo of the six of them standing on a staircase on the boat with a view of its grand entrance.

Last year, the Johnsons had their luxurious six-week vacation on the same yacht – identified as the Phoenix 2 superyacht . They began their journey in Antibes, France before making their way around the Mediterranean including stops in Portofino, Capriccioli, Capri, Positano, Nerano and Sicily in Italy ; the Corinth Canal, Mykonos, Oia, Kefalonia, Kalami and Santorini in Greece ; Montenegro; and Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The luxury yacht has offered charter prices that start at €1,200,000 per week, or roughly $1,299,770, per week, according to its website .

Included in the price of the seven-cabin superyacht, which can accommodate up to 12 guests, is a crew of 29 people. The primary cabin is a split-level apartment with its own private stairwell. The suite features panoramic views of the ocean and a private terrace fitted with a jacuzzi. The remaining cabins are connected by a central elevator across three decks of the ship.

Ukraine war latest: Poland considering downing Russian missiles over Ukraine; Kremlin responds to Biden slip-up

Poland is considering a proposal to shoot down Russian missiles heading towards Polish territory while they are still in Ukrainian airspace. Elsewhere, the Kremlin has responded to major gaffes made by Joe Biden during the NATO summit in Washington DC.

We'll be back soon with more updates on the war in Ukraine.

Medical workers gathered at the ruins of the Okhmatdyt children's hospital today to hear the Kyiv Classic Orchestra play.

The hospital - described as Ukraine's version of Great Ormand Street - was struck by a Russian missile on Monday.

Two people died, including a 30-year-old doctor, and around 50 people were injured in the attack, which has drawn widespread condemnation from Ukraine and its allies.

Russia denied targeting the hospital, though Sky News has confirmed the missile that hit the hospital was from Russia.

Tonight, the Kyiv Classic Orchestra performed Requiem for the Dead at the ruins of the hospital, with medical workers gathering to listen.

Poland is considering a proposal from Kyiv to shoot down Russian missiles heading towards Polish territory while they are still in Ukrainian airspace.

The proposal was included in a security cooperation agreement signed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw this week.

Ukraine's president said he was "confident" the arrangement could be implemented swiftly, though Poland will consult its NATO allies before attempting to shoot down any Russian missiles.

"At this stage, this is an idea. What our agreement said is we will explore this idea," Poland's foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski told the American Enterprise Institute in Washington today.

Mr Sikorski confirmed that Russian missiles fired from the St Petersburg area towards Ukrainian targets had previously entered Polish airspace for about 40 seconds before turning towards their targets.

The proposal would cover any missile traversing western Ukraine in the direction of Poland.

“Our dilemma is the following. If we shoot them down only when they enter our airspace, the debris is a threat to our citizens and to our property," added Mr Sikorski.

"And the Ukrainians are saying, 'Please, we will not mind, do it over our airspace when they're in imminent danger of crossing into Polish territory.

"To my mind, that's self-defence, but we are exploring the idea."

Ukraine will receive far fewer F-16 fighter jets than it had hoped for this summer, according to a report from Bloomberg .

The first of around 85 jets promised to Ukraine will arrive from the Netherlands and Denmark and are set to be in the skies this summer.

But according to people familiar with the matter, the acquisition of the jets have been plagued by delays, questions around spare parts, and a language barrier between Ukrainian pilots and their foreign trainers.

Bloomberg's report says that Ukraine might only be able to field a single squadron of F-16s, anything from 15 to 24 jets, this summer.

Another source has suggested Kyiv expects to get six F-16s this summer and up to 20 by the end of the year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has insisted his country needs more than 100 F-16s if they are to make an impact on the battlefield.

"The problem with F-16," Mr Zelenskyy said, "is the number and the dates."

"Even if we will have 50, it's nothing. They have 300. Because we are defending, we need 128," he said.

Planners are also worried that Ukraine doesn't have enough runways to support the jets. The ones it does have are also vulnerable to Russian attacks.

"People shouldn't expect miracles," said Jim Townsend, a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security.

"Those airfields are going to be nice, juicy targets, and the Russians have already been hitting some of them, just as a welcome to the real world for these F-16s."

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said the "peace missions" being undertaken by Hungarian leader Viktor Orban lack strategy.

Mr Orban has angered his NATO and EU allies by holding unauthorised meetings with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jingping.

Yesterday, Mr Obran met US presidential candidate Donald Trump at his resort in Mar-a-Lago, shunning Joe Biden at this week's NATO summit in Washington.

The Hungarian also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy this month, who said he was unaware that Mr Orban was heading to Moscow and Beijing after his visit to Kyiv.

Mr Orban has been accused of handing legitimacy to Mr Putin at a time when the West wants to isolate him over his invasion of Ukraine.

"I don't see any strategy and no particular consequences," said Ms Meloni.

"Political leaders have the right to meet with other political leaders. I do not see anything special or surprising in this.

"I don't think it's a secret that Orban may be closer to Trump than to Biden. I mean, they are political leaders who talk to each other."

On Mr Orban's visit to the Kremlin, Ms Meloni said the Hungarian leader did not have the mandate to hold talks with Russia.

She added that this week's deadly missile attacks on Ukraine, one of which struck a children's hospital in Kyiv, showed there was no desire for dialogue from Mr Putin.

"The problem is that when you go there, you give this signal, and the next day you blow up a hospital, I think that, unfortunately, it shows that there is no desire for dialogue on the part of Putin's Russia," she said.

"That's the problem, because if there was a desire for dialogue, we would have talked, but I think the answer was quite clear."

The US defence secretary and Russian defence minister have spoken for the second time in just over two weeks, the Pentagon has confirmed.

The call was initiated by Moscow, with US defence secretary Lloyd Austin reportedly stressing the importance of keeping open lines of communication between the Kremlin and Washington to his Russian counterpart.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh declined to provide further details on the call.

Russia's ministry of defence said that "the issue of preventing security threats and reducing the risk of possible escalation was discussed".

The last call between Mr Austin and Andrei Belousov took place on 25 June, which itself was the first call of its kind since March 2023.

Russia's defence ministry said that Mr Belousov warned Mr Austin of the dangers of continued US arms supplies to Ukraine during last month's call.

Vladimir Putin has signed a new bill into Russian law that amounts to the biggest shake-up of the country's tax system in a quarter of a century.

As the war in Ukraine drains the Kremlin's coffers, the government has been looking to find new ways to finance it.

The answer is a new progressive income tax rate, as well as a rise in corporation tax.

"It seems like the tax reform is a tool to move the economy from butter toward guns," Alexander Kolyandr, a non-resident senior fellow at the Centre for European Policy Analysis, said last month.

"The government is no longer concerned about you eating well, but rather about you producing more guns."

The new bill, approved by both houses of parliament this week, marks a dramatic departure from Mr Putin's previous tax policies.

Shortly after assuming office in 2001, the Russian president introduced a flat rate of 13% that was applied universally. Most Russians have been paying the same rate since.

The new law keeps a 13% rate for incomes of up to 2.4 million roubles (around £20,800) a year.

For incomes over that amount, a steadily higher tax rate would apply.

Incomes between five and 20 million roubles (around £43,500 to £174,000) will be taxed at 18%, those between 20 to 50 million roubles (around £174,000 to £434,000) at 20%, and anything over 50 million roubles at 22%.

Mr Putin has said the increases will affect no more than 3.2% of Russian taxpayers.

Corporation tax will also increase from 20% to 25%.

The changes will come into force next year and are expected to generate 2.6 trillion roubles (£22.5bn) in additional federal revenues in 2025.

As well as helping finance Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, the Kremlin hopes the tax reforms will help make the country less reliant on the revenues generated from oil exports amid continued Western sanctions.

Ukraine's security service says it is preparing evidence which it will present to the International Criminal Court documenting Russia's continued use of landmines against civilians.

The SBU said in a statement that more than 1,000 Ukrainians have been injured and 297 killed by mines of various types, mostly in the eastern Donetsk and Kharkiv regions.

It accuses Russian troops of disguising mines in" various common items, including children's toys and boxes of sweets".

The statement also accuses Russian sabotage groups of setting up minefields to cover their retreats from the front line and border areas.

The SBU said it was preparing a "large-scale base of evidence" and would send it to The Hague once there was enough.

Russia has repeatedly denied targeting civilians during its invasion, but thousands have been killed and injured since its February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Russian forces have carried out "massive shelling" in Kherson, the head of the city's military administration has said.

Speaking on Telegram, Roman Mrochko said the assault had lasted for around half an hour and had damaged houses and administrative buildings, as well as destroying a shop and wrecking cars.

"People are very scared, but alive," he said. "Miraculously, no was injured."

He also shared a video of heavily damaged buildings.

In a later post, Mr Mrochko said restoration work was ongoing to fix a damaged water supply facility.

Berlin has said it is taking reports of a Russian plot to assassinate the chief executive of a German arms manufacturer very seriously, adding it won't be intimidated by Moscow's threats.

CNN and the New York Times reported yesterday that US intelligence had discovered and warned Germany of a Russian plot to kill Armin Papperger, chief executive of Rheinmetall.

The German company makes artillery shells and tanks that Ukraine has used in its war against Russia.

The plot was one of a series of Russian plans to assassinate defence industry executives across Europe supporting Ukraine, CNN reported.

After Washington's warning, German security services were able to protect Mr Papperger, it said.

"We will not allow ourselves to be intimidated by Russia," said Germany's interior minister Nancy Faeser.

She added that Germany will continue to do "everything we can to prevent Russian threats" within the country.

Rheinmetall has not directly confirmed the reports, while the Kremlin has denied them as fake and based on anonymous sources.
