Affordable Italian style machine

Maybe you should have a closer look at the latest Mobilvetta A-class motorhomes before trying to guess their prices. They look a million euros, but their actual cost here in the UK is considerably less… until we finally leave Europe, of course. Then, who knows? Suffice to say the talk is already of significant price hikes for all motorhomes – wherever they’re made – from season 2018 onwards.

It’s timely, then, to take the opportunity to get closer to this A-class from Italy. Part of an initial three-model range for the UK, it’s got a distinctive enough look to prepare you for an equally individualistic interior… it’s not for nothing that Mobilvetta uses the word yacht in the names of its Tekno Lines.

The base vehicle is Fiat’s almost ubiquitous Ducato, with the 2.3-litre, Euro 6, 150bhp engine as standard, with Comfort-Matic available as an option should you want automatic transmission. Around the Ducato’s running gear, Mobilvetta adds a coachbuilt body that uses all the latest build techniques. It’s a timber-free construction, with inner and outer walls in GRP as well as a curve to the top on the exterior that’s more normal on super-premium motorhomes of this ilk. A five-year warranty covers water ingress. Lower skirting in aluminium and black alloy wheels contribute to a very modern, sleek leisure vehicle.

Inside, the MH79 has a typical – and increasingly popular – floorplan of a front lounge and a rear island bed with shower and toilet at its foot in a washroom area that spreads across the width of the vehicle.

Over the lounge, there’s a typical drop-down double bed, too, making this a genuine four-berth. Alternatively, for couples who like big, comfy sleeping areas to themselves a format like this also makes perfect sense.

The island bed has electrical operation, meaning you can raise it should you wish to optimise storage space in the garage area below, which can be easily accessed from both sides. Lowering it makes it all the easier to get into bed at night without resorting to steps or a ladder.

Centre-‘van is taken up by the kitchen. Its L-shape makes the most of the space for both storage and worktop. Kit starts with a Dometic three-ring hob tucked in the left-hand corner and a deep circular sink opposite, and a waste bin set into the worktop between. Other details include a kitchen roll holder and clips on rails. Plus, there are soft-close drawers and good locker space.

Across from the main kitchen unit, there’s a 149-litre Thetford fridge/freezer with automatic energy selection, plus a Dometic grill/oven, as well as extra storage thanks to a tall slide-out locker with metal baskets.

Sliding doors give privacy to the washroom. There’s a “salad bowl” basin in the centre here, with the shower cubicle on the offside and a swivel-bowl toilet on the opposite side. Storage includes lockers under the basin and beyond, and above the toilet.

The standard specification is simply awesome. Everything you can see here, plus fittings like the 130Watt solar panel, underfloor heating, external sockets (gas, mains electric and shower), rear-view camera and handling aids (Traction Plus, Hill Assist and Hill Descent) are included in the price. You’ll want a tracking system, however. At the time of writing, there was also a special offer of a HAL-Locate with two-year subscription, for £599 – some of which will be offset by a reduction in your insurance premium.

Do consider the chassis upgrade option, too. If your driving licence allows, the 3,650kg rebadge ups the payload to a more respectable 493kg.

Verdict : Blends style and quality with a price that’s also easy on the eye

Plus : Oodles of equipment, stylish looks inside and out, well priced

Minus : Limited payload on standard chassis

In-a-nutshell : A-class, Italian class

We also have a mobilvetta k yacht79 and it has spent more time in the repair workshop than on our drive, we have not had a holiday where a problem has not arisen. Starting with the first trip the front skylight leaked, then the springs broke only having done 1000 miles, then the locks on the garage door failed, the other roof lights all leaked, the engine management light came on, the aftersales at the dealership are hopeless. I have spoken to the Group After care manager and he is as unhelpful as the dealership, once they have your money they do not seem interested. The faults so far are being repaired but to say we have lost faith in the motorhome is an understatement, I wish we had not brought it. It has spent more times on the back of a recovery truck than on the road, I only thank goodness that we have caravan guard as our insurer and breakdown recovery as they have been absolutely brilliant and all the breakdown garages that have seen us at our most traumatic and upsetting times have been nothing but fantastic and helpful.

You could take your concerns to your local citizen’s advice if you feel your issues have not been resolved.

I want to leave a very low star rating for Mobilvetta K-YACHT TEKNO LINE 79 first registered 10-16 low mileage and wash Sean on tv . I took delivery 08/11/17. It has been nothing but bother things falling off, locking us in, not locking while away on a break In Whale whiles travelling buzzer sounding that door was open, had it back to workshop many times. But still the fault list gets bigger we have lost faith in the Motorhome and the possibility to repair it to an acceptable standard. I have complained in writing but still await for a reply to resolve this issue.

The problem with motorhomes and I have had two, is that, as big as they are, the kitchen workspace is still tiny. This one has a tiny triangle between the cooker and sink, as most do. This is one of the reasons I changed to a Peugeot Boxer campervan. You get cooker, sink, workspace and fold up worktop in a row, the a section of the table swings out to just about meet the drop down section, then the table itself. You end up with a good, L shaped, preparation/dishwashing area.

I have had one on order since October, it should be delivered next week early April, having been to four shows, 2 at the NEC and over 160 models, I can say.. nothing comes remotely close to this level of interior, the number of included extras alone should sway one from the norm out there. Other manufacturers charging a fortune for what comes as standard… A heated front windscreen….Unheard of.

Mobilvetta K-Yacht Tekno Line MH-85 2017

You can indulge in A-class luxury and style on a 3500kg chassis with this Mobilvetta K-Yacht Tekno Line MH-85 – but just how tempting is it?

Mobilvetta is one of a handful of motorhome brands (the others being Itineo , Rapido and Pilote , at least in Essentiel spec) that offers A-class ’vans at prices close to what ordinary folk can afford.

This Mobilvetta is a good £10k cheaper than Adria and Bürstner models with similar layouts, although they include Alde heating and a slightly higher specification.

But there are enough innovations inside Mobilvetta’s K-Yacht MH-85, including the underfloor heating and the clever kitchen, to make this a motorhome you can really grow into, even if there are one or two niggles – like the night-lights.

With Marquis Leisure’s input, you get a much more UK-friendly spec too, but you would be wise to opt for the free chassis upgrade, driving licence permitting, of course.

The kitchen has been cleverly thought out You can get a good amount in the rear garage, plus there are handy storage nets and a light/torch

Lots of lighting inside is great, but we felt it was a bit too much – especially when trying to turn them all off There’s so much storage space that it’s easy to overload the ’van!

Mobilvetta may sound and look Italian, and although it is Italian built, mamma mia , as with so much else in the motorhome industry these days, it is actually part of a much larger multi-national concern – in this case, the French-owned Trigano Group.

Despite such support, it had been largely absent from the UK market for most of the past decade, a result of the late-2000s financial crisis that saw the Italian motorhome market contract by as much as one fifth.

That was up until the start of the 2017 season, though, when the UK’s biggest motorhome and caravan dealer network, Marquis Leisure, keen to add an A-class brand to its portfolio, brought Mobilvetta back to British forecourts.

Don’t forget that Marquis is already enjoying no little success with Benimar , itself another Trigano brand.

So far, potential UK buyers have only seen three models from the brand’s K-Yacht Tekno Line , which, surprise surprise, has been designed to incorporate elements of nautical style.

Earlier this season, we tested the K-Yacht MH-80 , which carries an innovative rear-lounge layout.

Now we’re taking the K-Yacht MH-85 , with single beds in the back and a drop-down double bed over the dinette, for a spin through rural Northamptonshire and a thorough live-in test.

The cooking area is one of the best we have seen in recent times

A front dinette is usually going to be a space challenge in a motorhome with fixed beds.

Here in the Mobilvetta K-Yacht Tekno Line MH-85 it is less so, because the designers have found enough space to incorporate an L-shaped seat and a small side seat to the right of the habitation door.

But even if our team-mate did fall asleep on the move, these seats are really only moderately comfy when the motorhome is stationary. The main bench in particular seems very upright.

You would probably be more inclined, as we were, to use the swivelled cab seats if it is just the two of you. They would certainly give you a prime position for watching the TV if you were to install one on the bracket fitted to the left of the habitation door.

The table is fully adjustable, but we found it was always a little far out from the side seat, which, like the bench, is not super comfortable.

The seat is, however, a useful place for putting on any shoes you might keep in the nearby cubbyhole in the double floor.

The lounge is adequately heated with one vent to the side and another by the door. There is one mains socket in this area, which is a bit of a squeeze to get to as it is under the L-shaped seat, but the sockets in the kitchen are nearby.

A rooflight keeps this area bright and airy, even taking the drop-down bed into account, and alongside those LED striplights there are plenty of LED spotlights, including four in a row by the drop-down bed’s curtain, plus two by the door that come on automatically as you enter the motorhome.

The drop-down bed has speakers in its base, too.

The cooking area in the Mobilvetta K-Yacht Tekno Line MH-85 is one of the best we have seen in recent times.  There is only a three-burner hob, but it is cleverly tucked into the corner, and there is a large sink with a cover that alternates as a chopping board and fits into a slot on a rail that runs along the top of the partition by the sink.

That’s a useful idea, although we would be tempted to swap the board’s position with the paper towel holder that also sits on this rail so that the board is directly over the bin behind the sink, and all food waste can simply be scraped off and dropped in.

The whole work surface is well lit, with a 12V and mains socket next to the light switch, and there’s even an extractor fan.

There’s another potential resting place for the chopping board on top of the cutlery tray under the worktop. Here, it can form an extension flap.

Two large drawers and an ingenious shelving system that telescopes out next to them means that there is plenty of room for even quite large pans and utensils.

Up above, the two overhead lockers are also large.

Having so much space to hand makes you wonder why the designers bothered with the tiny apothecary shelf across the aisle.

Next to it is a three-way 150-litre Thetford fridge, and a SMEV oven and grill above that – it will be a little high for some, though.

The washroom is split across the middle of this Mobilvetta motorhome.

A stylish-looking stainless-steel basin with a soap dispenser and mug embedded into the worktop around it, and two differently angled mirrors behind it, takes up one side, along with a swivel toilet with toilet roll holder and brush.

There’s also one overhead locker and a cupboard under the basin that is partly obscured by a thin towel rail.

This area, which is partitioned off by a tambour door, also has a window and a roof vent with a fan.

Strangely, you won’t find the latter in the shower cubicle across the aisle, which also only has one drain hole – a sign, perhaps, that this is an affordable A-class.

But the shower head itself looks ultra-modern, and there are solid metal shelves for stowing all your lotions and potions.

The whole washroom area can be partitioned off from the front lounge and kitchen by means of an elegant Japanese-style door.

The comfortable fixed beds at the rear are reached by steps – each measures 2.03 x 0.83m (6’8″ x 2’9″).

The beds are reasonably high, which means you don’t have a huge amount of headroom. But as the mattresses themselves can be raised at the pillow end, support is available for sitting up in bed.

Sleepers get spotlights for reading, while in the middle between the two beds is a very large wooden shelf that could easily serve as a resting place for books.

If you would rather cuddle up for the night, you can pull out an extension over the steps and insert a couple of infills to create a double bed.

The 1.88 x 1.33m (6’2″ x 4’4″) drop-down double bed over the cab was a little more complicated to position than we had expected.

The folded cab seats need to rest an inch or so before their forward-most position, not right at the end. Trying to work this out inevitably involved accidentally sounding the horn, so you might need to be careful if you are putting this bed down late at night.

Once it is deployed, though, you get a bed that is an accessible height, and comes with spotlights and a rooflight.

You’re certainly not short of space for clothes in the MH-85.

Along with six overhead lockers in the bedroom, there are two huge wardrobes under the bed, one with a hanging rail and the other with two large shelves.

There are also clever sock shelves in the curve of the wardrobe doors, while two of the steps open up for storage.

The designers have made use of the double floor – not just externally with those two lockers, but also internally with cubbyholes along the centre of the ’van. The one by the fridge is cleverly sub-divided to take large drinks bottles – molto buono!

The excellent garage, meanwhile, has two doors, a light you can remove to use as a torch, and netted storage across the back. It is big enough to take bikes upright.

The only trouble is the modest user payload of 342kg – fill up all the available storage spaces and you’ll end up being overweight.

Buyers with C1 entitlement on their driving licences can get around this by opting for a chassis upgrade to 3650kg, which is free of charge.

Op vakantie hoeft u zich alleen maar te concentreren op het tot rust komen. Alles in de K-Yacht Tekno Line is ontworpen om u comfort en rust te bieden. Alle zitbanken zijn comfortabel gewatteerd en uitgerust met verstelbare hoofdsteun. De draaibare stoelen zijn uitgerust met stoelhoezen welke perfect matchen in de kleuren en stijl van het interieur. Alle technologie welke nodig is om te ontspannen is absoluut aanwezig in de K-Yacht Tekno Line. Er zitten 4 speakers voor je favoriete muziek in de woon- en slaapruimte. Een slimme bedieningsunit met touchscreen bevindt zich boven de deur en diversen USB aansluitingen maken het makkelijk je apparaten op te laden. In de ‘face to face’ indelingen is de tafel opklapbaar zodat u kunt kiezen tussen meer leefruimte of meer tafeloppervlak. De bovenkasten zijn ruim maar stil en stabiel onderweg.  Mochten deze niet voldoende opbergruimte bieden geven de vloerluiken extra opbergruimte.

De slaapruimte van de K-Yacht Tekno Line valt op door de tijdloze klasse en verfijne inrichting. Wanneer je om je heen kijkt is alles mooi en netjes afgewerkt. Het zacht aanvoelende gestoffeerde dak beschermt en isoleert de ruimte tegen lawaai en kou. Het panoramisch dakraam met hor en blindering geeft meer lucht op hete avonden en biedt de mogelijkheid om naar de prachtige sterrenhemel te kijken. U kunt heerlijk slapen op de ergonomische matrassen met een bodem van honingraatstof en lattenbodems voor een goed ademend vermogen. Goed slapen en voldaan wakker worden is heerlijk maar het is niet alles dat de slaapruimte u te bieden heeft. De treden met opbergruimte aan de zijkanten van het bed zijn bedekt met een zacht tapijt voor bescherming en isolatie. De kledingkasten hebben binnenverlichting en bieden voldoende opbergruimte.

Kiezen voor schoonheid bekent niet dat u bruikbaarheid op moet geven. Een camper van topklasse zoals de K-Yacht Tekno Line is ontworpen om optimaal te genieten. Elk diner wordt een exclusief moment al vanaf het begin van bereiden. Dankzij de grote opbergkasten en lades met ‘soft-close’ is er voldoende ruimte om al uw keukengerei handig op te bergen. De keukenwand is voorzien van een rolhouder en een snijplankhouder. Allemaal in een elegante setting geplaatst. Met mooie en hoogwaardige materialen zoals het acrylstenen keukenblad met ingebouwde RVS spoelbak, wordt duurzaamheid gegarandeerd. De keukenuitrusting wordt compleet gemaakt door de afzuigkap en een grote koelkast.

Alles in de toiletruimte van de K-Yacht Tekno Line draait om uw welzijn. De afgeronde lijnen, houten meubels, acrylstenen blad, wastafel, dakraam en zijraam maken de badkamer tot een elegante maar vooral functionele ruimte. De douche met LED-spots is groot en veelzijdig en kan dankzij de speciale hanger omgetoverd worden tot hangkast. De douchevlonder van kostbaar teakhout zorgt ervoor dat u zich makkelijk verplaatst en beschermd de douchebak na het douchen. Of het nu gaat om een gecombineerde ruimte of ruimte waarin de douche en toilet apart gesitueerd zitten, de ruimte is geoptimaliseerd tot het hoogste niveau. Daarnaast biedt de ruimte alleen het beste. Bijvoorbeeld de grote spiegel met geïntegreerde opbergruimte en verlichting of de handige handdoekhouder onder het wastafelblad. De keramische tandenborstelhouder en zeephouder en de 220V aansluiting voor föhn of elektrisch scheerapparaat maken de ruimte compleet.
