Ready to talk to us?

It’s easy to assume that when it comes to Instagram, the more followers you have, the better. But that’s not always the case — especially where ghost or fake followers are concerned. Creative Impact Collective, a consulting membership for small-business owners, recently deleted 20,000 of its Instagram followers . That’s a quarter of its followers.

Why? Because after conducting a quality audit of its account, founder Fab Giovanetti made a startling discovery: their engagement rate — the percentage of followers who engage with its posts — was a mere 0.1%. Meanwhile, the average engagement rate for an Instagram business profile is 4.7%.

Lots of Giovanetti’s followers weren’t liking and commenting on her content. But not just because they were infrequent users or were uninterested in her posts — thousands weren’t real followers at all. They were fake accounts created by bots. Essentially, they were ghosts.

Odds are your brand’s Instagram also has ghost followers that can hurt your credibility and lower your engagement rate. So here’s everything you need to know about Instagram ghost followers, including how to find them, remove them, and avoid them.

What are Instagram ghost followers?

Instagram ghost followers are inactive or fake Instagram accounts that may follow you, contributing to your overall follower count. However, they never interact with your content.

Sometimes these accounts are created by real people who simply don’t use their account. However, they’re often social bots with no actual users behind them.

instagram ghost followers

These accounts exist because people are willing to pay for followers, which has created a market for fake follower accounts. All those fake followers must be created though, and this process is often automated.

Just because you didn’t purchase them doesn’t mean these fakes aren’t lurking in your follower count. The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance conducted an audit of 100 of the most successful Instagram accounts and found that up to half of all the accounts following celebrities like Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ariana Grande weren’t real at all.

“All large Instagram profiles have some percentage of ghost followers,” says David Dundas, founder of influencer marketing agency HelloConvo. He estimates that 10% to 20% of brand accounts’ followers are fakes.

How do you identify them?

The Instagram ghost followers that are easiest to spot have no profile picture, no posts, and a high ratio of people-they-follow to followers. They may also have a username that looks like gibberish or is composed of random numbers.

In the example below, this account has no profile photo or posts, and it’s following more than 2,000 people but has no followers. Most likely, we’re looking at a ghost account.

instagram ghost followers

However, a fake Instagram account can sometimes appear to be real. They may have a more convincing username and even a few actual photos posted.

What’s so bad about ghost followers?

If you’re concerned only about your number of Instagram followers, ghost followers won’t harm your account. In fact, you might even be grateful for the boost. But those fake followers could hurt your bottom line if you collaborate with an influencer or manage a brand account .

They harm your credibility

Anyone can appear to be influential on Instagram these days by purchasing a few thousand followers. Since social media has become a competitive space, organically gaining followers can take time and effort. Many brands and influencers are fighting for consumers’ attention, leading to an increase in purchasing fake followers.

These days though it’s common practice for businesses to analyze an account’s following to ensure they’re teaming up with the real deal — a person or brand that can deliver a worthwhile return on investment .

“When we evaluate influencers on behalf of brands, we use sophisticated tools to understand the makeup of your audience,” Dundas says. “We also do a ‘spot check’ looking at the comments on posts, as well as a quick scroll of your followers to see whether they’re real or not. If things look strange or they don’t have real conversations in the comments, we’re not likely to work with the influencer.”

Because Instagram users are typically paid based on the size of their audience, companies that team up with businesses and influencers that have fake followers are often paying to reach people that don’t even exist. For example, a report by cybersecurity firm Cheq estimates that fake followers cost brands $1.3 billion in 2019 alone .

instagram ghost followers

That’s why companies usually now include language in their contracts that addresses Instagram ghost followers.

So if you’re working with other brands or creators, it’s important to ensure that your followers are legit, so you can establish and maintain an honest and mutually beneficial partnership.

They lower your engagement rate

Just as Giovanetti discovered, Instagram ghost followers can make your content less engaging because fake followers don’t interact with your content. For example, let’s say you have 10,000 followers, but you’re getting only 30 likes per photo. In this case, it’s obvious, at a glance, to any savvy Instagram user that your engagement rate is incredibly low.

An account with many followers but low engagement likely has a lot of ghosts contributing to that high follower count. And if your posts aren’t getting enough attention from followers, they’re certainly not going to attract advertisers.

To calculate your account’s engagement rate, divide the number of likes and comments of your 10 most recent posts received by your number of followers. Then, multiply the value by 100.

Engagement rate = likes + comments ÷ followers x 100

Fewer people will see your content

Instagram’s algorithm predicts what kind of posts users want to see in their feeds based on what they’ve liked and commented on previously. And it’s more likely to display content based on how engaging it is.

If your brand announces a new product and the post generates a lot of interactions, the algorithm is likely to place this post in more of your followers’ feeds. This could also land it on Instagram’s coveted Explore page , where users are recommended posts from accounts they don’t follow.

A post that doesn’t attract many likes or comments, however, won’t have as much reach because Instagram’s algorithm deems it less relevant to users’ interests.

When your account has a lot of ghost followers that don’t engage with your content, this lack of interaction affects your post’s visibility. Not only is it less likely to appear in your fake followers’ feeds, but it’s also less likely to show up in your other followers’ feeds.

This can create a vicious cycle: your engagement rate drops, so fewer people view your content. And the fewer users who see your posts mean your engagement rate will decrease again.

How do fake followers impact Instagram influencer campaigns?

Fake Instagram followers reduce the effectiveness of any influencer marketing program. If the influencers who make up the program don’t have real followers, any content shared by them is unlikely to yield the desired results, if any. The program won’t return any sales, engagement, or reach.

Plus, the follower count is typically the measure that defines the influencer’s rate card . So if a brand hires an influencer with 50,000 followers of which 30,000 followers are fake, then it’s simply paying for bots and not real audiences. In which case it’s a refund or no business in the first place.

How do you check for Instagram ghost followers?

There’s several ways to do a ghost followers audit on Instagram. It can be done manually or through automated tools.

Manual Instagram fake follower audit

It’s quite simple to check whether an account is suspicious or not. Here’s five steps to detect Instagram fake followers:

  • Check the profile bio or information. Suspicious accounts will have very little information about the profile, with fewer or no posts
  • Check if they have any profile picture or real name in their username. If you notice that the followers’ accounts have no profile pic or poorly written usernames, this can be a sign of a fake follower. For example, @u_stole_my_heart looks real, but @donjhonson765432af could be a bot
  • Check the following-to-follower ratio. Bots usually have a large following and no followers
  • Check for an unnatural rate of activity in your or the influencer’s account. If you see fluctuations in the account activity, the account may have bots. A real influencer’s account activity will have no such imbalance for the most part. The level of engagement will be steady
  • Check for weird commenting patterns on posts. Advanced bot services are programmed to leave comments on posts to make them seem real. But, it’s easy to determine a fake comment because the comments are too robotic and generic, usually simple one or two-word comments, such as “good job,” “nice,” or “beautiful”

Automated Instagram follower audit

Doing an Instagram fake follower audit manually can be time-consuming, especially if you want to partner with multiple influencers for one campaign or focus your elsewhere, like on strategy.

Automated tools like Bazaarvoice can do all the heavy lifting for you by analyzing an influencer’s follower and engagement rates to determine if any fake followers are lurking in their accounts.

How to remove Instagram ghost followers

Once you’ve determined you have ghost followers, it’s time to remove them. It may seem daunting, especially if you have thousands of fake followers, but the best way to remove Instagram ghost followers is to do so manually. “I would literally go through our followers list and click on anyone who looked suspicious,” Giovanetti writes .

While apps exist that claim to identify and remove bot-created accounts, Instagram has banned apps that identify and remove ghost followers in bulk. Connecting one to your account can result in Instagram flagging your account and you potentially losing access to it. You also won’t have full control over which accounts are removed from your followers’ list.

fake followers

Plus, there’s an upside to manually removing those Instagram ghost followers. “A great perk of doing this is that I got to re-engage with active followers who may forget about us by liking some of their pictures, which also sparked up our engagement,” Giovanetti says.

Once you’ve purged your account of those fake followers, Dundas suggests being proactive and doing a bit of “house cleaning” every three months to remove ghost followers.

How to avoid Instagram ghost followers

The only way to completely prevent bots and fakes from following your Instagram account is to set your profile to private, so you have to approve each new follower.

Obviously, this isn’t an option for brands. However, there’s steps you can take — or not take — to keep those ghostly followers to a minimum.

Don’t purchase followers

Paying for Instagram followers is essentially purchasing ghost followers, so forego the temptation and focus on growing your Instagram following organically .

“Don’t buy followers,” Dundas advises. “It will forever impact your performance with the Instagram algorithm.”

Instead, he recommends making “audience reactivation” part of your ongoing social strategy. “Reply to all comments on your posts, engage daily with existing followers by leaving comments on their posts, and engage with new accounts in your niche that aren’t following you. This practice generates authentic conversations that give positive signals to the Instagram algorithm, and will increase your engagement rate.”

fake followers

Don’t buy an existing Instagram account

There’s companies that sell Instagram accounts that already have a following, but purchasing an existing account won’t actually give you a head start. More than likely, all those followers are exactly the kind you want to avoid: bot-created accounts.

Don’t pay for engagement

Instead of taking the time to manually delete all those ghost followers, some users opt to improve their engagement rate by purchasing likes, comments, and Instagram Story views.

But while this may boost your metrics in the short-run, it’s not a sustainable practice, and soon you’ll be right back to where you started.

Find authentic influencers

Many influencers stand out for their authenticity , skillfully representing your brand and compelling the audience to make purchases. Seek out these genuine creators with legitimate followers and engagement from real audiences.

Some brands will choose to focus on nano- and micro-influencers (accounts with a lower number of followers) as they tend to have a genuine online presence and are less likely to have ghost followers. That’s why they have much higher engagement.

Create content that attracts real followers and engagement

Unfortunately, ghost followers just come with the Instagram territory for now. While it’s certainly a good idea to do a regular audit of your followers and clean out the inactive users and fakes, the one surefire way to attract real quality followers and get loads of comments and likes is to simply post authentic, engaging content.

Of course, that’s easier said than done, but we’ve got countless ideas to help you capture the attention of Instagram users — and secure their follows.

Identify Ghost Followers Instagram

Increase ENGAGEMENT removing ghost followers from your Instagram profile easily and effectively.

Removing Ghosts Followers IG

What are ghost followers ?

Imagine this: your Instagram account appears to be flourishing , with consistently high-quality visual content paired with captivating captions. You've optimized your profile and included a call-to-action in your photo descriptions to encourage your followers to click on your link.

Your follower count looks impressive, but when you examine your posts more closely and check your back-end analytics, you notice that your engagement rate has significantly dropped . You're not receiving the same amount of likes and comments as before, and it feels like your content is falling on deaf ears. 🤔

Upon further inspection, you realize that the issue may be ghost followers on Instagram . These are accounts that follow your profile but never interact with your content - no likes, no comments, no shares... nothing.

It's like being ghosted by a date through text or instant message. This can be frustrating, especially if you're trying to build a genuine following and engage with your audience.

Don't worry, there is a solution ! 😜

However, first it is necessary to know how to locate this type of followers within your own profile, analyze them and understand how to delete them effectively.

How to identify ghost followers

Ghost followers on Instagram are essentially inactive accounts that don't interact with your profile or posts. They're often referred to as fake followers because they're likely not real people. However, whether or not they're a negative thing depends on your goals.

If you're primarily concerned with having a high follower count, then ghost followers may not be a bad thing as they can boost your perceived following and clout.

Ghost followers commonly appear when someone decides to buy Instagram followers. This is a practice that has become popular in some industries, where individuals or companies purchase thousands of followers for a low price.

The two most common ways to buy Instagram followers are by buying inactive followers or bots and by paying for a service that follows other users in the hopes they'll follow you back. However, both of these methods are unreliable.

Why remove ghost followers from your profile?

By removing ghost followers , you can improve your engagement rate and increase the visibility of your posts and histories to your target audience , which can lead to more organic growth and better ROI on your social media marketing efforts.

Removing ghost followers is an important step in keeping your Instagram account healthy and ensuring that your content reaches the right audience. Fortunately, there are several ways to identify and remove these inactive accounts from your follower list.

Want to know how to remove ghost followers on Instagram? This is the exact way I did it!

If you want to remove ghost followers on Instagram, you can’t use those glitchy apps in the Apple Store. Seriously, don’t use a ghost followers app because it might block you from certain actions (or worse get your account banned).

This is because Instagram does not like third-party apps that are not authenticated by Instagram, and as it goes, most, if not all of these ghost follower apps are not approved by Instagram.

In this post, you’ll learn the exact steps on how to remove ghost followers on your account without flagging Instagram’s algorithm. If you’re going to go through the efforts of increasing your engagement by removing ghost followers, you have to do it safely!

What are ghost followers on Instagram?

The ghost followers meaning in terms of Instagram are basically followers that are inactive or fake accounts (bought and/or from giveaways) that don’t engage with your content. They boost your follower count without actually adding any value to your content.

You can get ghost followers from:

  • buying fake followers,
  • participating in giveaways
  • or if you’ve been on the app for a long time.

For example, if you’ve had Instagram for five+ years ( like me ), then most likely there have been some followers who followed you at first but then just left the app for good. Also, if you’ve changed your niche/content, then some of your followers might not be interested in your content anymore and haven’t engaged in a long time.

Come say hi on my ig: @sarchetrit.

Best Benefit of Removing Inactive Followers on Instagram

The biggest benefit of removing inactive followers is that your engagement goes up. When your engagement goes up, your content actually gets seen.

As an influencer, with more engagement, you can get better brand deals, and as a business, with more engagement, you can get more relevant customers.

As I’ve personally removed ghost followers, I’ve noticed a big difference in my story views. In removing about 1000 followers, my story views have gone up about 300-400 views!

What Ghost Follower Apps and Services to Avoid

You pretty much want to avoid all ghost follower apps you find in the Apple and Google Play Store. Instagram is getting smarter and smarter by the day and can detect unusual bot activity. I’ve heard horror stories of people getting their accounts deactivated by using these unauthorized third-party apps so avoid them at all costs.

I personally tried to use a couple of these ghost follower apps and was sketched out when they needed to get into my account after I removed two-factor authentication– no thank you.

Also, their analysis of ghost followers is not that good. They only check the recent x number of followers you got who naturally may have not liked your content as much as old followers have.

Avoid ghost follower apps at all cost!

As for services you might find on Fiverr, avoid any who want to build a bot for you . Removing ghost followers has to be done manually on your own phone.

How to Get Rid of Ghost Followers the Right Way

1. do it yourself method #1.

The best way to get rid of ghost followers is to see which of your followers have NOT liked or commented on your photos.

If you have a scraping program, you would take a list of all your followers and compare it to the list of everyone liking and commenting on your pictures. Those who have not liked or commented on your last 60 photos but follow you are most likely ghost followers.

Then you’d take that list and manually force unfollow everyone slowly in the app. See below how to force unfollow.

Yes, manually unfollowing is very important, and it’s best not to do more than 30 force unfollows per hour (to not alarm that sensitive algorithm).

2. Do It Yourself Method #2

know ghost followers

This method is a little less calculated but still effective (as shown by @creativeimpactco who cleared out 20,000 ghost followers).

Basically, you go through your followers list one by one and remove people who look “suspicious” as they said.

When they said “suspicious”, they probably meant accounts with no profile pictures and no posts or old accounts without any activity on it for awhile.

See below how to force unfollow.

3. Hire Someone for a List and Do it Strategically

The majority of us do not have scraping programs or even know how to do this. It can also be time consuming and tedious if you have a large number of followers.

As a result, I recommend hiring this guy on Fiverr. Here’s why.

After checking out a few peoples’ profiles and messaging back and forth with them, I chose to work with Tom because he offered me a pure list for me to go off of. Everyone else I talked to recommended bots or some type of automation, which is a clear no, not only in my book but in Instagram’s book.

I grabbed the largest package of his , got a list full of details in a few days then started force unfollowing inactive followers manually. See below how to force unfollow.

I haven’t been consistent with it and force unfollowing people is making me lose followers overall, but within a couple of weeks, I’ve already started seeing my story views go up.

I’d rather lose followers and have higher engagement, then get more followers and lower engagement because I want people to see my content!

Check out Tom’s service on Fiverr.

How to Force an Inactive Follower to Unfollow You

Before you start force unfollowing people, you need to know that:

  • You shouldn’t force unfollow more than 30 per hour. This is to stay safe within Instagram’s algorithm and it does not think you are botting in any way.
  • If you do a huge batch, then take a 20-minute break before you start another one.
  • I can’t stress this enough but it has to be done within the app on your phone manually.

Now that you know the rules for force unfollowing, here’s how to actually do it (screenshots below).

  • Go to the profile of the inactive ghost follower that you want to force unfollow you.
  • Tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
  • Tap Remove Follower.
  • Tap Remove.

Photo of how to force unfollow a follower on Instagram

Check out my ig @sarchetrit.

Pro Tip for Mac Users: This process can be quite tedious when doing a batch at a time so I like to:

  • have the Excel sheet of ghost followers that Tom gave me open on my Mac,
  • copy a user’s name on my Mac
  • and paste it* into the Instagram app.

This only works if your Mac and iPhone are synced to copy and paste between each other, but if yours are, then use this method. It really saves a ton of time from tediously typing in each follower’s username.

I stupidly deleted 1,400 ghost accounts in 2 hours instead of in small batches as you wrote here (I read this after I had done it) and now IG has looted my reach even more as it didn’t show my reel to many people…. Should I repost it? And if so, how long should I wait as IG thinks I was using bots!

Compliance status

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.

To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.

This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.

Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.

If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation

Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:

Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.

These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.

Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.

Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Browser and assistive technology compatibility

We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers), both for Windows and for MAC users.

Notes, comments, and feedback

Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs, there may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to

know ghost followers

If you use Twitter or any other social media platform, the size of your follower base determines your level of success. A large follower base increases your social media credibility, online appeal, and attracts more followers to your profile. However, in recent years, the rising numbers of ghost followers have concerned brands and marketers.

If we go back a decade, building a follower base only required you to post a few images and updates now and then. But today, even gaining the attention of users requires you to consistently post engaging content that adds value. Also, there is an abundance of content related to any topic which makes it even more difficult to gain the attention of the user. While many still follow the approach of adding value with content, some simply take the short route to success. They buy followers.

Why are Ghost Followers Bad for Your Twitter Account?

The biggest drawback of having a large number of ghost followers for an account on any social media platform is the loss of credibility. People will start speculating about the authenticity of your followers.

For Example: Let’s say a use have over 10,000 followers, but only 300-500 followers actually like or comment on your posts. This will give users enough reason to doubt the authenticity of your follower base.

This puts your profile at risk, a brand would have a hard time finding new followers. Users would either think that your content isn’t engaging or you have bought fake followers.

The biggest consequence of ghost followers, for any account, is the loss of credibility.

For example, if an account has 20,000 followers, but only 20-50 likes per photo, users will easily spot the inconsistency in these two metrics.

Ghost Followers Lower Engagement Rate

ghost followers lower engagement rate

Letting a substantial number of ghost followers accumulate in your follower base can make it difficult to analyze the actual performance metrics. You won’t ever be able to measure your success precisely.

Your follower count and the overall engagement are used to evaluate your engagement rate. But if you have ghost followers in your follower base, it will lower your engagement rate as these accounts do not engage with your brand.

Suppose Brand A has 10,000 followers, the engagement on each account averages between 1500-2000 likes along with 70-100 comments. The engagement rate is as expected and also helps attract the attention of other users.

On the other hand brand B has a similar follower count but barely gets over 200 likes and a handful of comments. The reason, ghost followers. Users are more likely to avoid following accounts that have low engagement despite a high follower count.

Ghost followers affect your brand’s credibility and public image

ghost followers tarnish brand reputation

These days, it’s much easier for users to seem popular and gain influence by purchasing fake followers or bots. But there are serious consequences if you are found out, which you will be, eventually. Nowadays, business and even casual social media users can use various analytics tools to analyze followers. They can easily determine the authenticity and quality of your follower base.

Moreover, businesses and brands make sure to thoroughly evaluate the followers of influencers before collaborating. The more ghost followers you have, the fewer chances you will have to partner with brands. Also, if the presence of fake or inactive accounts is substantial, your profile will be red-flagged or blacklisted by the brand.

Users are less likely to see or engage with your content

social media content

If you have a large follower count but your engagement is low, users would conclude any of the two scenarios.

  • The account has bout fake followers to increase their follower count.
  • The account or user does not post engaging content so the engagement rate is low.

Either way, it harms your brand’s reputation and keeps new followers from following your social media profile. You will have trouble attracting new followers and increasing engagement.

How to Avoid Ghost Followers?

how to avoid ghost followers

These are some of the things that you should keep in mind if you don’t want ghost followers tarnishing your brand’s image on Twitter or any other social media platform.

Don’t buy fake followers and bots

The first and foremost thing that you should absolutely avoid doing is, buying fake followers. Buying fake followers is essentially inviting a ton of ghost followers to your Twitter profile. While it can create an illusion of popularity that can help you attract more followers, but if the users don’t find engaging content, they will eventually unfollow you. Moreover, the long-term consequences of having ghost followers are far worse.

Don’t pay for engagement

Brands or influencers that have already bought fake followers even go as far as buying engagement to seem genuine by all means. What they should have actually done is delete those fake followers. Buying engagement can help you sustain for a while but is by no means an effective and fruitful investment. It is an unnecessary investment that will ultimately be brought to light in the eyes of the public.

Use a fake FollowerAudit tool

If you have a couple thousand followers, it’s easier to find fake, inactive, or ghost followers. But brands and influencers have thousands if not millions of followers on their social media profiles. In such cases, you should use a fake follower audit tool to identify and block ghost accounts from your follower base.

However, don’t just keep followers for the sake of increasing your follower count. They are irrelevant if they do not interact with you. Such followers will only decrease your engagement rate.

Finally, allowing such followers to grow in your followerbase would generate suspicions that you are buying false followers. As a result, it’s best to get rid of them before they tarnish your reputation. Using FollowerAudit FollowerAudit , you can identify false and ghost followers and establish an engaged following base.

Instagram Ghost Followers – Everything That You Need To Know

  • SocialStudio Blog

Believe it or not, almost every single account has Instagram ghost followers. It’s true, these inactive accounts are common on social media and often impossible to avoid.

But are they really all that bad?

Well, they can inflate the number of followers, but brands and influencers already know the potential risks associated with ghost followers.

In other words, while everyone appreciates new followers, these inactive accounts can wreak havoc with engagement.

Let’s take a closer look at what you should know about Instagram ghost followers.

Cleaning Instagram Ghost Followers For a Better Engagement

The truth is, most ghost followers on Instagram are there because brands or influencers have purchased followers or likes.

With this in mind, these same brands, etc are now busy trying to identify and remove fake accounts to help maintain their reputation.

What Is a Instagram Ghost Follower on Instagram

In case you might be asking yourself, “Ghost follower” refers to an inactive account that does not contribute to likes, commenting or posting content.

Although you will find these inactive accounts on every social media platform, Instagram ghost followers are especially common. And while they might seem harmless at first sight, studies show that more than 38% of accounts on Instagram are either inactive or completely fake!

That said, in order to clean up engagement, it’s essential to remove accounts that do not partake in commenting or liking posts. What’s more, reach is everything on social media and inactive accounts do little more than reduce this reach on Instagram.

Instagram Ghost Followers Are Impacting Your Engagement

Some users just want the dopamine that comes with likes or follows and let’s be honest, we all know about this feel-good factor.

However, brands and influencers will often try to build their online presence or perception of popularity by purchasing ghost accounts.

For the most part, these accounts are created by bots but they do not interact with other accounts. That is to say, if you purchase ghost followers and post photos to Instagram, these “followers” will never interact with this content in any way.

It is Not Worth Buying Fake Ghost Followers

In this sense, having a legion of followers and yet few comments or likes suggests an account may not be as credible as the follower-count implies.

That being said, Instagram also calculates engagement metrics on accounts and posts which means that you can also be punished for having ghost followers .

Once again: a high number of followers combined with a low amount of interaction will usually mean that your posts are less likely to show up higher in the main feed.

With this in mind, the engagement rate is far more important than the number of followers. After all, engagement determines whether people even get to see your content and Instagram ghost followers will only harm the prospects of featuring higher up the feed.

The image below shows how much engagement most profiles have when they reach a certain amount of followers.

Do You Have Instagram Ghost Followers?

If you’ve noticed a steep decline in terms of the number of likes etc on Instagram, you might want to investigate the legitimacy of your followers.

You see, Instagram algorithms want to identify what keeps users attention and a low engagement score will only make them want to restrict the reach of your account.

And this goes for brands just as much as influencers or recreational users, especially if the number of inactive users is high.

As for why this happens, Instagram knows that real followers can feel disillusioned when they see a brand risking their reputation by purchasing followers.

In fact, research shows that most online users value authenticity just as much as the quality of whatever product or service that brand might provide.

Instagram Ghost Followers on Your Profile

Now, if you happen to find ghost followers, you should know this might not be your fault. As already mentioned, everyone has ghost followers, whether they buy them or not.

The truth is, wherever there is attention, there will be ghost followers on Instagram.

More specifically, this sometimes happens when unethical users try to exploit this attention and begin spamming accounts with follows in order to gain traction.

But since these accounts are inactive, a small number of Instagram ghost followers won’t really do much to harm your account. Meanwhile, a large number of such followers will have implications that often detract from your reputation and encourage Instagram to restrict your reach.

Moral of the story: buying fake followers might have seemed like a good idea some years ago but ghost followers pose nothing more than a problem to any Instagram account.

How To Remove Instagram Ghost Followers

Firstly, it’s not a bad idea to begin this process by calculating the percentage rate of engagement on your account. Here’s a quick formula to explain this calculation:

The aggregate number of likes ÷ Average number of Followers x 100

Next, you might want to scroll down through your list of followers and click into any accounts that look suspicious or irrelevant to your niche.

If this account has not been active recently or has no information in the bio, this is sometimes a ghost follower. Now, this is by no means an easy task, for some genuine followers are less active or particular about things like completing their bio.

However, you can also use their follower count and the frequency of posts as another leading indicator in terms of whether the account is a real user or not.

In case you might be wondering, fake accounts will typically have just a few images and a small number of followers. What’s more, they will follow a disproportionately high number of users.

When it comes to removing these inactive users, you can start by quickly blocking the user.

At the same time, prevention is always a lot easier than removal and with this in mind, here are some simple ways to combat inactive accounts and ghost followers:

Using Software to Remove Instagram Ghost Followers

While there is software that “unfollow users”, it’s best to avoid these tools as they are not always accurate and can end up unfollowing people that you wish to follow.

Just so you know, these tools will remove followers that have a low level of engagement but you might want to use this tool for a “once-off” task rather than a weekly purge.

Make Quality Content

You can improve your reach and engagement on Instagram by improving the standard of your content. It might seem rather obvious but it’s important to remember that creativity and passion will always outlast any amount of paid advertising!

Perform Regular Checks

Try to log into your Instagram account as often as possible. When you pay regular attention to progress in terms of likes or comments, you will have a much greater understanding when it comes to the authenticity of your followers.

Complete the Bio To Avoid Instagram Ghost Followers

Your first impression comes from the profile picture but try to remember the power of a decent bio. You simply must complete this section and let people know who you are, what you do and what makes you so interesting to follow.

Use Correct Hashtags

You might not escape the clutches of ghost followers with the correct use of hashtags but you can at least improve your engagement. After all, using the right hashtags will attract like-minded users who are more likely to engage with your content.

Avoiding Instagram Ghost Followers By Posting Relevant Content

Ensure that all of your posts are relevant to whatever users find in your bio. For instance, if you say that you are an “outdoor adventurer”, the majority of your posts should be about nature, outdoor gear or just getting outdoors in general.

Don’t Forget Captions

Believe it or not, users most often want to know about the story behind a photograph.

You should never assume they already know this story and take every post as an opportunity to engage with followers and start a conversation by writing a great caption.

Instagram Ghost Followers Hate Comments and Questions

Don’t forget that Instagram is a two-way platform. If you fail to realize that followers want to be heard, you are missing the point.

For this reason, always take time to engage with fans in the comments and try to ask questions from time to time – even just to show followers that you care about their opinion.

Follow Others

While it’s important to cut down on ghost followers on Instagram, it’s equally important to connect with like-minded users. In fact, you even gain more followers when you follow other accounts and engagement should also increase when you follow active accounts in the same niche.

Needless to say, these are just a few ways to clean up an account and improve engagement. And when you boost the number of real followers on Instagram, this inevitably reduces the impact that Instagram ghost followers might have on engagement levels.

Final Thoughts on Ghost Followers

As you can see, Instagram ghost followers on Instagram are almost impossible to avoid.

However, they are also impossible to ignore in the long term and will inevitably damage the reputation and reach of an Instagram account.

Either way, it makes sense to remove these inactive users and put time into attracting real followers . After all, the future of your reach, engagement and credibility on Instagram depends on it!

How to Detect and Remove Instagram Ghost Followers

Instagram Ghost Followers

Did you know that Instagram now has more than 2 billion monthly users ? That’s two billion potential follows on your account!

However, as your account grows, so will the number of Instagram ghost followers that you have. If you want an authentic account with great engagement, you want to avoid ghost followers.

But, what are ghost followers, how do you identify them, and how do you remove them? We’re here with a simple guide to teach you all of this.

If you’d like to learn more about inactive Instagram followers, read on to find out more.

What Are Ghost Followers?

The concept of a ghost follower is simple: it’s an account that followers you but does not interact with your content. There are two types of ghost followers, real and bots.

Real ghost followers are people that created an account and then didn’t use it or someone that views your content without engaging with it. Every business has a few of these ghost Instagram followers.

However, the more common ghost follower is the bot. These are fake accounts made by bots, and they exist because there is a market for ‘buying’ followers. When someone buys followers, most of them will be these fake accounts.

Even if you haven’t bought followers, you’ll probably have several bot profiles following your account.

How to Identify Ghost Followers

The easiest way to spot a ghost follower is to look at their profile. If an account has no profile picture, no followers, no bio, and follows  loads  of people, it’s almost certainly a bot.

Identifying real-person ghost followers is a little harder, but you can download ghost follower apps to recognize them for you.

How to Remove Ghost Followers

Although fake Instagram followers still add to your total follower count, they can be detrimental. Inactive Instagram followers will reduce your engagement rate and make your account look less authentic; you should remove as many as possible.

It is possible to download apps that remove ghost followers in bulk. However, this goes against Instagram’s terms of use. Instead, you should go through your followers manually and remove suspicious-looking accounts.

Remember, with Instagram, it’s more helpful to focus on engagement rate rather than follower count. If your account needs a boost, it’s better to  buy likes on Instagram  rather than allowing ghost followers to harm your credibility.

Remove Your Instagram Ghost Followers Today

That’s everything you need to know about Instagram ghost followers and how to avoid them. Although it may seem like a nice ‘boost’ for your account, ghost followers can harm your credibility and damage your engagement rate.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to do a thorough audit of your Instagram account if you want to grow your following in 2022.

What Are Instagram Ghost Followers?

Ghost followers are fake followers on social platforms. On Instagram, ghost followers usually have very few followers and follow thousands of accounts.

Having many of these accounts follow you can impact your engagement. But if only a few of them follow you, it is nothing to worry about.

There is an Instagram account with 122 000 followers, yet on average receives only 463 likes on average. For an account of that size, typically the average is around 2-3 thousand engagements per post. A popular tool to estimate ghost followers estimates that this account has 30% ghost followers.

Impact of Having Instagram Ghost Followers

When you have ghost followers on your Instagram profile , you will lose social credibility. People will be interested in your profile because of the massive number of followers you have. But when they check the engagement in your posts, they will know you are not authentic.

What’s more, it can be difficult to value any efforts you put into marketing. This is because you do not know the actual number of real followers that you reach.

Instagram is no longer just an online photo album. It is also a marketing platform used by brands and advertisers to promote goods and services. Hence, ghost followers have an adverse impact if you use your account for your advertising efforts.

1. Impact Of Ghost Followers On Brands

Instagram’s one billion users are a big potential for brands that want to market their products or services to these users.

The returns that can be achieved from advertising to a market of this magnitude are significant, and some companies have realized them. But ghost followers on Instagram will not buy your shoppable posts, click a link to your site, or like your posts; they are useless.

If you take shortcuts, you will increase the number of followers, but you will eventually suffer from low engagement and lack of sales. Therefore, instead of buying a bot to boost your follower number, engage with your audience by liking and commenting on their posts. Connecting with your audience will boost brand loyalty.

2. Impact on Influencer Marketing

Some people are in a rush to become influencers, so they end up purchasing Instagram accounts or followers. But they fail to realize that these followers are fake and will impact their online business.

Brands will be attracted to influencers due to the high number of followers. They will be interested in partnering with influencers in order to reach an audience that wants to buy their service or product. But once the influencer makes a post, the brand will be disappointed by the low engagement rate and weak or no sales. As a result, the influencer will end up losing their clients.

3. Action by Instagram

According to an April 2017 article by Business Insider , Instagram started to go after ghost followers. So, they closed down the third parties that were in the service of selling fake followers and engagement .

Instagram felt that ghost followers on Instagram were unhealthy for profiles, and user experience was being affected. Moreover, Instagram is shutting down accounts with many fake followers .

How To Prevent Instagram Ghost Followers

Now that you know how ghost followers can harm your online business, how do you avoid them? Here are the basic ways of steering away from an account with many ghost followers.

  • Don’t Buy an Instagram AccountNumerous services sell Instagram accounts. Services such as offer an online shop for people to buy and sell accounts. The issue is that you cannot be offered the Instagram handle for you to assess whether the followers are genuine or fake. As a result, the risk is very high that you might end up purchasing ghost followers. Also, when you purchase an Instagram account , there is a high likelihood that you will change the profile name and post photos that not related to the previous ones. This will result in real followers leaving you, and only fake ones will remain. Keep in mind that Instagram can close the account once they notice a name change that results from a sale. Do you want to make no return on your investment? Because buying an Instagram account will give you no returns.
  • Don’t Buy Instagram FollowersMany online services are offering Instagram followers on the cheap, including Gramblast and Buzzdays. You can get 100 followers for \$2.99 and \$1.89 respectively on these services.Once you buy the followers, you will get an eye-catching account with low engagement. And remember, you will lose your credibility because real followers can easily spot a fake account.
  • Don’t Buy Instagram Likes or EngagementBuying ghost followers on Instagram leads to the added investment in comments and likes. Services such as IG Flash, Super Liker, and Gramplify offer to position your posts on their newsfeed so that their users can like and comment on them. In return, you will like and comment on the posts of their users.Even though you will have some short-term engagement, this will only last for so long. Moreover, these comments are generic because the users commenting on your posts are only doing it to get the same. You can differentiate the comments of such a user from those of a real follower who is genuinely passionate about your post. That is why growing an Instagram account organically is the best option. It might be tasking, but you will get steady growth that will be there in the long-run.

How To Get Rid of Instagram Ghost Followers

How to Find Inactive Instagram Followers (And Remove Them)

know ghost followers

Finding and removing inactive Instagram followers is important if you want a good engagement rate.

If your engagement rate is low , you might have a lot of inactive or ghost Instagram followers.

If you’re not consistently removing inactive Instagram followers, your engagement rate will start decreasing as your followers are increasing.

This will negatively affect your account.

However, finding inactive followers can be quite a hassle.

Hence, this article guides you on how to easily find inactive Instagram followers, how to remove them , and more.

What are inactive Instagram followers?

So, what are inactive or ghost Instagram followers?

Inactive Instagram followers, also known as ghost followers, are followers that don’t like or comment on any of your posts.

Inactive/ghost Instagram followers are followers that don’t engage on your posts. These are the type of followers that you want to get rid off.

In other words, inactive followers are following you, but they are not engaging on your posts.

A majority of these followers are bots that utilize the follow/unfollow strategy to grow their followers.

If you don’t know what the follow/unfollow strategy is, it’s basically the act of following a bunch of users with the intention for them to follow back.

However, some of these inactive followers are real people.

Either way, it’s a good idea to find and remove these followers as it will benefit your account.

It’s always better to remove a follower than to have an inactive one.

This is because even though you lose a follower, your engagement rate will be maintained , or even be increased.

Engagement rate is the most important metric on Instagram.

You can have tens of thousands of followers on Instagram, but if your engagement rate is low (under 3%), your account is poor.

In order for brands to work with you, your account has to have at least 1,000 followers and decent engagement rates.

Hence, likes is an important factor to determine whether your account is of quality.

At the end of the day, the more inactive or ghost followers you have, the lower your engagement rate.

How to find inactive Instagram followers

There are two different types of inactive Instagram followers.

The bots and real people that are inactive.

To find inactive Instagram followers, you need to be able to detect bots on your list of followers and people that are inactive , or don’t use Instagram anymore.

There are two types of Instagram followers you need to remove. Bots and real people that are either inactive or are not using Instagram anymore.

How to find and remove bots

Bots can be easily identifiable on Instagram.

Here’s what a bot account looks like:

  • No profile picture
  • Little to no posts
  • Posts have little no engagement
  • Not many followers
  • Odd username

These are the number of factors you should take into consideration to identify a bot.

However, you need to make sure to go through each person meticulously.

This is because there could be real people that have all of these factors but bots that don’t.

So, you shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Real people vs. bots

know ghost followers

Using the above comparison, it’s easy to determine real accounts against bots or fake followers.

When you’re looking at these bot followers, you’ll need to keep the end goal in mind.

It’s all about getting people to engage in your content.

So if you’re looking through your list of followers and you think that someone might be a real person but you don’t think that they are going to engage in your content, then you should remove them.

How to find and remove real but inactive people

Now that I covered on how to find bots, how can you find real people who are just inactive followers?

How do you identify these people?

You can find real but inactive people by looking at the people that are consistently liking or commenting on your content.

If you know that you have followers that are not liking or commenting on your posts, that’s how you can find people that are inactive.

Additionally, you can use Instagram’s ‘Least Interacted With’ feature to find out who you interact with the least which means that the person might not have engaged on your posts as well.

know ghost followers

The ‘Least Interacted With’ feature is great if you want to mass-unfollow or unfollow people on Instagram fast .

Since the feature is quite new on Instagram, you can use it to unfollow people without getting action blocked.

The feature is Instagram’s way of telling you that you should unfollow these people based on your low interaction with them.

Use a third-party app

know ghost followers

Using a third-party app is one of the easiest ways to find inactive or ghost Instagram followers.

Simply search for “Instagram analytics/followers/unfollowers” on the App Store or Google Play Store.

However, viewing your inactive or ghost followers is usually a premium feature in these apps.

So, in order for you to view these followers, you’ll have to be prepared to spend some money.

However, if you’re utilizing these apps, make sure to never unfollow or remove followers in the app itself.

Otherwise, your account will be action blocked.

This is because Instagram is able to detect that you’re using a third-party app because you can carry out actions faster than normal.

Instead of removing/unfollowing people from the app itself, do it manually.

How to find inactive Instagram followers: Next steps

Now that you know how to find bot followers and inactive people, you have two options next.

The first option is to go ahead and engage with these people by going through their content, liking, and commenting on it.

However, you should only do that if you really enjoy their content. Don’t just do it for the intention for them to reciprocate.

By engaging on other’s content, they are more likely to engage back.

This is because once people know that you’re liking their posts, they may return the favor by liking your posts back.

It’s sort of a like for like thing.

Alternatively, you can remove these people from your list of followers.

Let’s dive into this in the next section.

How do I remove inactive Instagram followers?

There are a couple of ways you can use to remove inactive Instagram followers.

Here are the ways you can use to remove inactive Instagram followers.

1. Remove inactive followers from your list of followers.

The first way to remove inactive or ghost followers is to remove them from your list of followers or from their profile.

Instagram released a new feature where you can directly remove people from following you.

Not everyone has this feature, but if you have it, it’s incredibly useful.

You can remove followers by going to your list of followers.

know ghost followers

On your list of followers, find bot or inactive people and then tap on ‘Remove’ to remove them from following you.

After you removed someone, they will no longer follow you.

They will not be notified that you removed them as a follower.

Also, they won’t be able to see your new posts or stories unless they happen to visit your profile and follow you again.

Secondly, you can remove someone from following you by going to their profile.

know ghost followers

Search for their username on Instagram and visit their profile.

Then, tap on the triple-dots icon on the right-hand corner of your screen.

Lastly, tap on ‘Remove follower’ to remove them as a follower.

Again, the person will not be notified that you removed them as a follower unless they happen to visit your profile.

2. Block them

The second way you can remove inactive or ghost followers is by blocking them.

I do not recommend doing this, but if you do not have the feature to remove followers, then you should go ahead and block these users instead.

Here’s how you can block users.

Simply visit a user’s profile and tap on the triple-dots icon on the right-hand corner of your screen.

know ghost followers

Then, tap on ‘Block’ to block them.

After you blocked someone, they will be removed from following you, your account will be removed from following them, and they will not be able to find your account.

The person will not be notified that you have blocked them.

Why are inactive Instagram followers bad?

If you have a bunch of inactive or ghost followers on Instagram, it can negatively affect your reach.

What happens is that you will get lesser engagement on your newer posts as they are not being shown to everyone.

For example, if you have a lot of followers on Instagram that are not engaging, Instagram will think that your content is bad.

Here’s how the Instagram algorithm works.

In the past, the posts on your feed are shown in a chronological order.

However, in the present, posts are being shown based on how likely you are to engage on it.

This means that if you recently posted something and people are not engaging on your post, Instagram will think that your content is bad and prevent it from being shown to more people.

Instagram’s algorithm works this way because they only want to show you the best content to get you to stay on the app.

Imagine if your feed is filled with low-quality images. You’re more likely to leave the app and not come back.

However, if your feed contains great content, then you’re inclined to stay on the app for a longer period of time.

In some occasions, having a low engagement rate does not mean that your content isn’t good.

It just means that you have a lot of inactive or ghost followers that aren’t interacting with your content.

Why is it important to remove inactive Instagram followers?

Inactive followers will decrease the reach of your posts and the engagement rate of your posts drastically.

It’s important to remove inactive Instagram followers to maintain your engagement rate.

As mentioned in the earlier sections, your engagement rate is the most important metric on Instagram.

Using an analogy, inactive followers are just followers that sits on your list of followers and do nothing.

They don’t like or comment on your posts.

This is unfavorable if you’ve been liking someone’s posts for a really long time but the person never engages back.

These are the type of people that you want to unfollow or remove as a follower.

By doing so, your engagement rate will either increase (if you get rid of a lot of inactive followers) or be maintained.

Why do people not engage on your posts?

People might not engage on your posts or you’re getting less likes because of several reasons.

Here is a list of reasons why people don’t like your posts or why you’re getting less likes on Instagram:

  • They don’t bother to
  • You are muted
  • They are uninterested in your content
  • Insufficient time
  • They have way too many posts on their feed
  • You are shadowbanned
  • Your content is bad
  • They don’t use Instagram anymore
  • You’re using bad hashtags
  • You’re not engaging on their posts

As you can see, there are lots of reasons why people don’t engage on your posts.

It could be because they are no longer interested in your content, they don’t use Instagram anymore, you’re not engaging on their posts, and so on.

Otherwise, it could be because your content is just low in quality. If that’s the case, you’ll have to create better content.

Benchmark your posts against others’. Is the quality of your content comparable to the users that have millions of followers/likes?

If not, you need to rethink on your content strategy or increase the quality of your content.

Removing inactive or ghost followers is crucial if you want to maintain or increase your engagement rate.

To find inactive Instagram followers, you can either do it manually or use a third-party app.

You can remove inactive followers using the ‘remove’ feature or by blocking them.

Engagement rate > followers.

After all, it’s better to lose a few followers than to have a poor engagement rate.

Remember, inactive or ghost followers are not helping your account — they are only harming it.

FAQ Regarding Our Engagement Rate Tool

How Do You Calculate an Instagram Account's Audience Score?

inBeat’s Fake Followers Checker online tool uses the average engagement rate, average likes and average comments. We then cross analyze this data with target data from industry standards and evaluate the audience quality. We do not examine the influencer’s followers individually in this calculation. We have found that cross-referencing average VS target data is rather accurate. The higher the audience score, the better the social engagement.

What Are Fake Followers?

Fake followers are social media profiles only meant to boost a profile’s follower count without actual value.  They bring fake likes and generic comments but no authentic engagement. They are also referred to as bot accounts or spam profiles. When an influencer has a lot of fake followers, they have low follower credibility, as their social profiles are based on inauthentic activity.

Why Use inBeat's Fake Followers Checker?

Our free marketing online tool helps you connect to genuine influencers with relevant audiences made of human followers with real accounts. inBeat’s Fake Followers checker saves you a lot of resources by scanning social profiles for you and detecting which potential influencers are followed by fake accounts.

Isn't it better to collaborate with influencers with a bigger follower count to reach more potential customers?

Fair question. You may think that a bigger audience is a better bang for your buck, but don’t be fooled: it’s easy to buy fake accounts and generic comments or create fake profiles to bump one’s social following and charge more for influencer partnerships. Celebrity influencers with a huge audience of thousands of followers aren’t necessarily a good choice for your social media marketing campaigns. As follower growth goes up, audience quality usually goes down. This is why we prefer to work with micro-influencers, as they are a better way to reach your target demographics through active followers and a relevant audience.

How can you use credibility rate for your influencer marketing?

By evaluating audience quality, you can better choose authentic influencers followed by legitimate accounts; engaging with your target audience is what brings revenue! Our Fake Followers Checker allows you to connect to genuine influencers: real people with real followers and engagement authenticity.

Why should I care about the Instagram audience score for influencer marketing?

A big follower count means nothing if it consists of fake profiles, inactive accounts and ghost followers. Don’t waste your time and money on fake influencers who charge big bucks without an engaged audience. Our audit tool brings social proof to your social media marketing.

How to Spot Fake Followers on Instagram?

There are many ways you can tell if someone has fake followers. The straightforward approach is to go and check each suspect’s fake follower profile. Most of the bots acting as fake followers have very few posts and/or activity on their page. Also, many bots don’t have a profile picture on their account or are using a photo taken on Google image. Using Google image reverse search will reveal a potential red flag.

How can you tell if someone has fake followers?

The best way to find out if someone has bought their audience and has fake followers is to use a fake follower audit tool such as ours. It’s a great way to find out instantly the follower quality score of an influencer’s audience. This credibility score gives you a good idea of whether the account is followed by real persons or bots.

How to remove fake Instagram followers

How to remove fake Instagram followers

Virtually everyone has a few non-active Instagram followers – the trouble is, they can seriously damage your chances of earning money as an influencer.

Sometimes, fake followers just happen – but lots of people have paid to have a few extra followers added to their account. For anyone who wants to be taken seriously today, buying fake followers is a bad idea – but it hasn’t always been this way. Back when Instagram was fairly new, spending a bit of cash to boost your follower count gave instant authority and appeal – so there are plenty of accounts out there with more than their fair share of inactive or bot followers.

Whether you’ve bought followers in the past – or you’ve just picked up lots of inactive followers on Instagram, we’ll help you put things right.

This guide covers a handful of helpful points, including:

  • Why inactive followers on Instagram are bad news for brands
  • How to find your inactive followers on Instagram
  • How to get rid of ghost followers
  • Deleting ghost followers with an Instagram app

When you’ve finished reading, you’ll understand what you need to do to make sure your account is exactly what brands are looking for.

What is a ghost follower on Instagram?

On Instagram, ghost followers are fake or inactive users who don’t engage with any of the content you create.

Generally, these accounts have been created by an application referred as a ‘bot’ – a piece of software that automatically goes through the Instagram sign-up process in order to send spam messages and comments to other users.

Most fake accounts are easy to spot. They tend to have names that make no sense – often with numbers thrown in for no reason. When you look at the profile, you’ll normally see very low follower numbers – but they’re usually be following a huge number of accounts .

Of course, it’s not just the numbers that do the talking. Their content is usually poor quality or obviously stolen from other, legitimate accounts – and all their content will tend to have very few likes or comments.

Bot accounts aren’t the only ones to watch out for though. Sometimes, in an effort to get more followers, account owners hand over their password to spammers - who then hi-jack the profile. These hi-jacked accounts can be trickier to spot – but if you see a sudden change from ordinary pictures to promotional posts, it’s a good indication that it’s now a spam account.

Any account that’s been created purely to boost numbers or distribute spam is bad news, and you’re better off without them if you want to use your account to work with legitimate brands.

How to spot a fake Instagram account

Why do ghost followers on Instagram cost brands money?

What harm are a few fake followers, really?

Well, to the brands that invest in influencer marketing – the answer might surprise you.

According to a report by an international cybersecurity firm, 2019 saw around £6.9 billion ($8.5 billion) spent on influencer marketing worldwide . The authors of the report calculated that 15% of the audience that ‘saw’ the posts that brands had paid for were actually bot accounts – meaning over £1 billion ($1.2 billion) worth of that budget was lost on fake followers .

For influencer marketing to make sense to a brand, it has to represent a solid return on investment (ROI) – essentially, it should create more money from sales made through influencers than was spent on the advertising in the first place.

This means two things for influencers. Firstly, brands will be very, very cautious about working with you if it looks like you have (or have ever had) fake followers. Secondly, if fake followers are a problem that influencers don’t tackle in their own accounts, then influencer marketing will rapidly decline in popularity – closing the door on your opportunity to make money online.

Fake followers are bad news for brands – which makes them bad news for anyone looking to work with those brands as a paid influencer.

How many Instagram followers are real?

So, how many ghost followers are there on Instagram?

A definitive answer is hard to find – but top cybersecurity firms say there are likely to be around 100 million fake accounts that are being used to circulate spam on the platform. When you consider that Insta has around 1 billion active users each month – that’s around 10% of active accounts being used to distribute spam.

The good news is, the legitimate accounts on the platform still represent one of the very best ways for brands to connect with potential customers. 10.7% of all referrals to e-commerce sites come from Instagram – and brands spend around 69% of their influencer budgets on the platform too.

For now, Instagram is a marketing favourite; so there’s no better time to be establishing yourself as an influencer with a high-quality, engaged audience.

How to stop Instagram spam followers

Before we explain how to do a fake follower check and get rid of any ghost accounts you find, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re not doing anything that will attract new spam accounts.

Rule 1: Don’t buy followers

It’s perhaps an obvious thing to say – but the quickest route to getting low quality, ghost followers is to pay for them.  Don’t be fooled into thinking you’re ever going to get legit followers if you sign up to buy them – and don’t be under the illusion that you’ll be able to specify the type of followers you get.

Plain and simple – don’t buy followers. They’re a vanity metric, and they will only ever cause you problems.

Rule 2: Don’t buy an existing account

Despite the fact that it’s against Instagram rules, there are marketplaces out there that offer to sell established accounts – complete with followers.

Sound good?

Well, unfortunately, it’s an offer that’s just too good to be true. You won’t get to see the account before you buy it – so there’s no opportunity to check for fake followers. What’s more, the chance of buying an account with a legitimate audience that’s going to be interested in what you do is very low – so when any good followers have left, it’ll just be you and your bot accounts.

Rule 3: Don’t buy likes or comments

If you’ve got a lot of followers but you’re getting very little engagement, it can be a red flag for brands who might otherwise be keen to work with you.

With this in mind - why not buy some engagement to even things out a little?

There are quite a few reasons this is a bad idea – not least because the comments you get will often be completely irrelevant and will come from accounts that are very obviously bots.

However, the biggest reason is down to how these bought likes and comments work. The apps and services that promise all this engagement will post pictures on your feed and other users to follow you and like them. You’ll get engagement – but you’ll also get a flood of dodgy-looking followers – making absolutely certain that brands stay well away from you.

Why is buying inactive followers is a bad idea?

We’ve talked about how you’re almost certainly going to end up with thousands of ghost accounts if you buy followers – but we know those impressive follower numbers are tempting – so it’s worth looking in a little more detail about why it’s such a bad idea.

1. Your engagement rates will nosedive

Lots of people wonder what the harm is in having a few fakes numbers to make you look a little more popular than you are – but ‘followers’ is fast becoming a useless metric as far as marketing teams are concerned.

Instead, brands are going to be keen to look at your engagement rates – and if no one’s interested in what you’re posting, then you can forget about working with them on their next campaign.

Think about it this way. If you’ve got 500 followers and you’re regularly getting 50 likes or comments on your posts – then you’ve got a 10% engagement rate.

Now, add 5,000 bought followers.

Your account looks more impressive at first glance – but those fake accounts aren’t going to engage – so you’ll still get the same 50 likes or comments that you got before. The trouble is, with your new fake followers, these 50 likes now represents an engagement rate of around 0.9% - so all that hard work that you put into getting a great engagement rate from 500 legit accounts is totally wiped out.

2. You’ll get plenty of spam

Ready to have your DMs flooded with automated messages and attempts to get you to click out to external websites?  If you buy followers, this is exactly what’s going to happen – and in the worst cases, it can lead to fraud and identity theft.

Bot accounts are designed to generate money – and they often do this by getting people to click through to sites that require credit card sign-ups, dodgy app downloads, or engagement in equally dubious cash-for-likes type scams.

Even if you don’t fall for the scams – it’s really annoying.

3. Brands know how to tell if someone has fake followers

You might be able to splash the cash if an impulse purchase jumps out at you from the sale rail when you’re shopping – but marketing teams just can’t.

Every penny or pound spent on an advertising campaign needs to be justified – and when it comes to paying influencers, a big part of that justification is proving that the account they’re planning to use represents a good ROI.

You know what ghost followers look like – and so do the marketing teams that take a look at your follower lists. You could get in touch with your favourite brand with the best email and look like the best influencer that’s ever knocked on their door – but if your followers look suspicious, they won’t waste their time on you.

4. Kiss goodbye to your reputation

When it comes to your own personal brand, there’s a big difference between stretching the truth and out-and-out ‘Instafraud’. We’ve all shoved a pile of clutter out of the way to take the perfect selfie – and there’s no harm in applying a little filter here and there – but having fake followers is just deception when you’re working with a business.

If you’re caught out (and trust us, you will be), the brand will almost certainly blacklist you for future collaborations. Word spreads quickly through professional networks too – and you can bet that your competitors won’t hold back in letting people know about you’ve been caught with fake followers.

Top 5 ways to spot fake influencers on Instagram

You could get your account banned

As if being blacklisted by brands and publicly shamed isn’t enough – you could find yourself with no Instagram profile at all if the platform detects suspicious activity relating to your following.

Sophisticated AIs are used by social media services to detect activity that is considered abnormal. Since very few people suddenly get 1,000 new followers, your account is likely to get flagged if you do – and these algorithms are developing all the time – so even if you feel like you’ve got away with it in the short term, Instagram is always working to make its service high quality for the brands that use it for advertising.

How to remove Instagram followers

Ready to get rid of those fake followers?

Good choice.

If you’re going to make yourself as attractive as possible for potential collaborations, cleansing your followers is an absolute must – but be warned, there are no real shortcuts that are as effective as rolling up your sleeves and doing it yourself. What about apps that automatically unfollow ghost followers on Instagram?

There are ghost follower apps out there that promise to help you remove fake Instagram followers – but it’s important that any third-party apps and sites you use are just used as a rough guide.

Well, deleting ghost followers is something you’re going to want to dedicate a bit of time to – to ensure you’re doing it thoroughly and safely. The battle between bot accounts and detection tools is very real – and unless you’re willing to put in some hard work yourself, you’ll never be absolutely certain the spammers haven’t managed to avoid detection.

Make sure you follow Instagram’s platform rules

When you use third-party apps alongside Instagram, you also need to be aware of the rules that they are subject to – because if you use an application that breaks those rules, you could find that your account is disabled.

Section 23 of Instagram’s platform policy explains clearly that an application must not enable more than one action at a time. An ‘action’ is the network’s way of describing anything you can do through your profile – including liking posts, commenting – and crucially; deleting followers. If you use a mass Instagram unfollow app, you might find that the app you’re using breaks this rule – and you could risk losing access to your account.

How to get rid of ghost/fake followers on Instagram for good

The best way to unfollow ghost Instagram followers is to work through your follower list in a systematic fashion. It’s time-consuming – but it’ll leave you 100% confident that your profile is completely cleansed.

We’ve put together a ‘How to Get Rid of Spam Followers on Instagram’ checklist that’ll help you do the best possible job:

Step 1 : Grab a pen and paper – or open a note on your phone. If you’ve got a lot of followers, you’re going to need to know where you’ve got up to if you (inevitably!) get distracted when you’re working through your list.

Step 2 : Scroll through your followers. Obviously, you can ignore people you know or people who you frequently engage with – but it’s a good idea to check the profile of anyone you’re not familiar with. Remember the key factors to keep a lookout for:

  • Instagram names/handles that don’t make sense or contain a lot of numbers
  • Accounts with low followers but high following numbers
  • Low-quality content – or content that seems to have suddenly become spammy
  • A lack of engagement – low likes and comment numbers on their posts

Step 3 : Get deleting. It’s a good idea to go with your gut feeling about whether or not an account is a bot – if something doesn’t seem right, it’s probably not. Remember, don’t get hung up on numbers – it’s quality that counts.

If you’re deleting directly from your followers list, just hitting the ‘remove’ button then confirming your choice on the pop-up will get the job done. If you want to remove the follower from within their own profile, you’ll need to tap the 3 dots at the top right, then choose ‘Remove follower’ from the pop-up.

How long will it take to remove ghost followers from Instagram?

Depending on your attention span, you might find it takes a few days of revisiting the task to delete all your ghost followers from Instagram – but it’s worth it.

In fact, every time you hit that ‘Remove’ button, imagine the noise of a cash-register in your head – because by working out how to get rid of spam followers on Instagram, you’re putting in solid foundations your influencer business.

When your account is cleansed, it’s a good idea to keep on top of it – deleting any new spam followers that crop up every week or so. Since your followers are listed in chronological order, it’s fairly easy to do this – as you’ll only have to work through the top of the list each time.

When it comes to followers, above all else, you should ask yourself – Does this account belong to someone who will add value to my Instagram community? Your answer is likely to be the same as any brand that you’d collaborate with – so don’t let a desire for a few more followers ruin your chance to make money as an influencer.

Ghost Followers: The Haunting Truth of Buying Followers

' src=

10x Faster Instagram Growth. Automatically.

Has someone ever ghosted you? No, not when he doesn’t call back. Has an Instagram account ever ghosted you? Your followers ghost you when they are faceless, empty profiles that disappear as quickly as they disappear. Ghost followers exist! That account with the random series of numbers and letters? The one following thousands with not a single post? These could be the burner account of a salty ex or a full-blown ghost. Either one is bad, but not for the reasons you think.

We will get into the reasons you should run from the Insta-ghosts. Ghost profiles lurk everywhere. It could be a pre-existing Instagram account that went dormant. It could be an account made to follow accounts needing a boost.

We know some people in influential positions try to create the appearance of a  more significant following than they have. An influencer editor may want extra attention for that labor-intensive post. That micro-influencer may want to get noticed by some brands.

They can get this attention by purchasing fictitious followers. The objective is to raise the total number of authentic followers they have. This may come with hidden costs. Ghost followers on Instagram are that discussion lurks in the shadows, but today we’re bringing it to light.

Hand in a smoky room touching a glass.

Let’s Solve the Mystery: What Are Ghost Followers?

You’ve heard the term before, but it’s still foggy. That’s reasonable. So, what are ghost followers? Ghost followers follow an account on Instagram but never interact with the content in any way. They don’t like or comment on posts. They don’t answer DMs, either. These followers are frequently inactive accounts or false accounts. They only exist to boost the number of followers that an account has. They hover around in your follower list and take up space. Think of plain rice. It fills you up, but the nutritional value is pretty low.

Ghost followers do not add value to the account besides a number, even if you used real money to buy followers . These “ghosts” are practically invisible and do not contribute to your engagement rate (more on this later.) This means that they do not bring any benefit to the account.

There are some telling signals that a follower on Instagram might be a ghost. Ghost followers typically follow many accounts but have a relatively small number of followers themselves. This is because no one ‘knows them.” They’re fake accounts . Followers considered ghosts will have very little to no activity on their accounts. They won’t have any postings. There won’t be very many others following them, either.

Be sure to take a look at the follower’s profile picture. That is if they even have one. Some don’t even bother to fake the funk. This is because they are not genuine and hence do not possess any photographs of themselves.

Remove Ghost Followers and Instagram’s Algorithm Will Reward You

The phony Instagram followers have accomplished their goal. Your social proof is up, and they have encouraged sincere participation from real followers. You’re scheduling posts at the right time , and they’re getting genuine engagement. Now you need to remove ghost followers. Instagram may have already started for you. It’s best to get rid of the ghost followers before they do.

It’s for your good, anyway. Most Instagram bots that follow accounts tend to lower the account’s statistics. That is, assuming they continue to exist. Some Instagram ghost followers drop off.

They lessen the account’s significance to an engaged audience. In the end, they won’t purchase anything you advertise. The lack of a return on investment will be a problem for collaborators. The extra users only hinder promotion once the profile has attracted its loyal audience. This alone is a good reason to give your page a purge. Many people wonder how to delete fake Instagram followers.

The most significant issue is jeopardizing the confidence of your potential clients and marketers. If you think that followers from bots are giving your profile a sketchy appearance, start cleaning up the follower list. Ghost followers on Instagram can disappear in a cloud of smoke in two different methods.

Block them:

  • Click on the follower’s name to read their profile.
  • Find the three dots in the top right corner and click on them to open the menu.
  • Simply choose “Block” from the menu.
  • Or, you could follow these steps to remove them as a follower.

Go to your profile and remove:

  • Check out the number of followers.
  • Go to the user’s username, and click the “Following” button to the right of it.
  • Then click “Remove” to stop following them.

A Good Ghost Followers App Will Help You Keep Track of It All

If you bought followers, how do you know they stick around long enough for you to get social proof? We’ve seen the movies. Ghosts disappear and reappear all the time. Ghost followers are just the same. So how do you know the money you spent on the Instagram ghost followers didn’t go down the drain? A ghost followers app could help.

Here are a few you could consider:

  • The application known as FollowMeter for Instagram provides users with stats on their followers on the app. It reveals the amount of followers that have gained and lost. It tells you which posts have received the most attention in the form of traffic, likes, and comments.
  • Cleaner for Instagram gives users the ability to identify “ghost followers.” It assists in unfollowing profiles in bulk. This is great if a whole host of ghost followers came to you at once. Using this application, you can delete postings, block and unblock users. You can even view the activity data associated with your account.
  • The Mass Unfollow app promises to work in conjunction with Instagram. It allows users to manage their Instagram accounts by performing bulk actions. This includes blocking, unfollowing, and deleting posts and other content. It allows you to have several accounts and provides analytics on your followers.

Now you are your very own Ghostbusters with these ghost follower apps! You can delete ghost followers on Instagram or know when they leave your account.

Do Fake Instagram Followers Bring Real Value?

Yes, fake Instagram followers sound like a great idea in the beginning. You’ve pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes. They take your following seriously. They decide to follow you too. However, ghost followers don’t go haunting your page forever.

However, the Instagram follower bot movement has come to a halt. This is due primarily to accounts that bot followers for Instagram frequently damage their reputation. For the past few years, Instagram has been cracking down on accounts that try to trick the system. Profiles accruing a large number of phony followers? Accounts experiencing growth that is nearly completely artificial? This was not IG’s vision.

If that didn’t scare you enough, even the brands can see through it.

During the auditing process, they use fake follower checker tools. They are available online. They check engagement rates. They steer clear of working with influencers that have a large number of fake followers. In addition, this kind of behavior is against Instagram’s rules. The IG accounts that try to scam their way to growth risk suspension or complete deletion of their account.

On Instagram, engagement is the key to seeing long-term success and gaining a large number of followers. That is the magic word. Your number of interactions on Instagram is more important than your follower count . This is how things become viral, and accounts quickly rise to prominence.

Doing it the right way doesn’t have to be complicated. For example, engaging with your followers is the most effective approach to kick off the process. You can encourage a higher level of participation.

Instagram Bot Followers Are Taking Over

What was life before Instagram? How did businesses even exist? The app is the one-stop solution for everything. IG allows you to post content, create brand awareness, manage advertising campaigns, and expand your impact. It doesn’t matter if you’re an individual, an agency, or a business. Interact with fans, win customers’ trust, and eventually make cash . But if Instagram is your marketing weapon, your followers are the fuel you need to keep it going. This is where the temptation of ghost followers comes in. Instagram bot followers have become the norm for people looking to expand.

Your base of followers on Instagram and the extent to which they interact with the content you post is essential. It can make or break you on this app. Your brand will appear more credible to consumers if it has more followers on Instagram. You will have more opportunities to interact with your target demographic. Persuade them to become loyal customers and believers.

Increasing the engagement and visibility of genuine users can be easy with the help of Instagram bot followers. Many profiles are attempting to game the system to get their posts and accounts seen by people. Your material may be able to pick up some initial steam if it features automatic comments and likes. Instagram ghost followers may not be a long-term solution, but it could be effective for now.

The Problem With Fake Instagram Accounts

It is a widespread fallacy that the key factor in determining success level is the number of followers on social media. As a result, content creators try to hasten their ascent to fame. Some influencers buy fake Instagram accounts from websites offering grandiose claims. Based on an account’s follower count, users evaluate that person’s level of popularity. They don’t see all the ghost followers at first.

The fake followers, no matter how you acquired them, will never engage with you in the way you need. Ghost profiles aren’t ideal if you want more comments on your posts and likes per post. Since they are not people, they cannot humanely interact with the influencers’ posts. Ultimately, they are useless to a business looking to work with the concerned person. We cannot have a decrease in your Instagram engagement stats.

Although you have thousands of followers, a small percentage engage with your content. The aim is to see engagement increase. The buyer of followers ends up with a very unbalanced account. This is this practice’s primary flaw.

Your engagement rate measures the interaction your content generates with your audience. You calculate it by dividing your entire number of followers by the sum of your overall engagement. This includes all likes, comments, and shares. Then, 100 multiplies this to get the percentage. You want to keep this as high as you can.

They are not actual users. Don’t expect increased engagement from this follower base. Therefore, you shouldn’t anticipate them engaging with your content in any way. The increase in the total number of followers will hurt your engagement rate if there are that many overall interactions.

How To Remove Ghost Followers On Instagram (2023)

Last Updated on December 31, 2022

Do you know It isn’t just about the number of followers you have when vast majority of them are ghost followers that aren’t contributing anything to your brand?

Are you also aware that every inactive Instagram followers significantly reduces the visibility of your posts?

When an inactive or bot account views your content without engaging, Instagram’s algorithm deems that it isn’t worthy of interaction, reducing the number of people that can see it.

In this post, we’ll go over everything you need to know about ghost followers, including how to safely remove them from your Instagram account.

Table of Contents:

What is a Ghost Follower?

Ghost followers are users on social media platforms who remain inactive or do not engage in any activity whatsoever. No liking, commenting, messaging or posting, Nothing!

They’re basically lurkers, made by real people who don’t use their accounts for whatever reason. However, they’re frequently social bots that don’t have any real users behind them.

At some point, every account will attract a certain number of ghost followers. Hence, why you need to get rid of them to increase engagement and grow your account organically.

How To Remove Ghost Followers on Instagram?

Follow the methods mentioned below to identify and learn how to get rid of ghost followers on Instagram in 2023:

1. Hire a professional

Without providing any login details, you can hire a professional to safely remove ALL of your Instagram ghost followers.

I personally use the Fiverr marketplace, and I’ll be sharing the freelancer that handles my ghost removal projects.

Tom is a social media expert and content creator with over 200 positive reviews. He is a level two seller with a team that specializes in creating valuable and industry-leading insights based on public data, which eliminates the need for login information and ensures that his services are completely safe and thorough.

His gig includes a detailed report on ghost followers that aren’t engaging with your account without requiring any login information; all that is required is your Instagram username.

After placing an order for one of the packages, they’ll use their self-developed algorithm that is 100% safe for your account to analyze all of your followers and show up every user who hasn’t interacted with at least one of your recent 40 posts.

Upon completion, you will receive a detailed datasheet with all the data needed to manually remove within your account.

His prices are quite budget-friendly, ranging from $25 to $70, and delivery takes anywhere from 3 to 7 days, depending on the number of followers on the account, which ranges from 2,000 to 20,000.

Also, he’s willing to work on accounts with more than 20k followers, so get in touch with him for a custom offer. His services are 100% safe as I’ve used them countless times.

Tom stands out from his competitors as he provides manual pure list while other services usually advocate for bots or some type of automation that would require you to hand over your login information, which isn’t SAFE!

Contact Tom today to order his service.

2. Do it yourself

This might sound difficult, especially if you have thousands of Instagram followers, but the best way to safely delete Instagram ghost followers if you’re not looking to a hire a professional is to browse through your followers list one by one and unfollow anyone who appears suspicious.

It’s also ideal to limit yourself to no more than 30 forced unfollows per hour (in order to avoid triggering the app’s sensitive algorithm for suspicious activity) .

The Instagram algorithm is getting tougher by the year. You can also skim through your followers to see who hasn’t liked or commented on any of your photographs and unfollow them.

Removing over 20,000 followers one by one?! Isn’t there an app or anything for that? Yes, indeed, however, we DON’T recommend it.

Avoid ghost follower apps at all cost! While they claim to detect and remove ghost followers, linking your account to that type of software may result in you being prohibited from certain actions or worse, your account being banned, which you don’t want.

Be aware that Instagram despises third-party apps that aren’t verified.

How to Avoid Instagram Ghost Followers?

Setting your profile to private, which requires you to accept each new follower request, is the only way to entirely prevent bots and fakes from following your Instagram account.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing this, probably because you run a business or something. There are other steps you can take (or avoid) to limit the number of ghostly followers on your account:

1) Stay clear from buying / using an Instagram account with pre-existing followers

Although there are agencies that sell Instagram accounts with followers, buying an existing account will not give you a head start. All of those followers are most likely bot-created identities, which you want to avoid.

2) Avoid paying for followers

As I made mention in the beginning of the article “It isn’t just about the overall number of followers you have”.

Paying for followers is essentially buying inactive Instagram followers, so resist the urge and focus on organically growing your account.

3) Don’t pay for engagement

Some users choose to buy likes, comments, and Instagram Story views in order to increase their engagement rate. While this may temporarily improve your KPIs, it is not a long-term strategy, and you will soon find yourself back where you began.

Does Removing Ghost Followers Help?

Yes, removing ghost followers can help in multiple ways. Any increase in your organic engagement (that goes down the more inactive and bot accounts you have following you), would result in growth and fast expansion of your account’s audience reach.

Brands and businesses that are focused on producing authentic engagement and gaining actual followers must solve their ghost follower issue in order to improve their outcomes.

How Ghost Followers Affect Influencers?

Ultimately, brands partner with influencers to reach an audience that is interested in their product and, hopefully, willing to buy it.

Having a large number of followers may first attract different types partners. Reputable brands, on the other hand, will definitely notice the difference in engagement rate to followers count.

If an influencer’s numbers appear to be polluted by ghost activity, they may lose out on partnership opportunities.

As a result, if you’re just getting started as an influencer, it’s best to grow your account organically in order to secure lucrative partnership offers.

Ghosts Season 3's New Story Update Follows Up On Major Mystery & Season 2 Cliffhanger

Posted: January 6, 2024 | Last updated: January 7, 2024

  • Ghosts season 3 will follow up on the season 2 cliffhanger of which character crossed over to the other side.
  • The premiere will also involve Sam and Jay's plan to turn their barn into a restaurant.
  • The Ghosts cast have received pay increases for season 3, suggesting that none of the main spirits have crossed over yet.

New details about Ghosts season 3 follows up on a major cliffhanger. An adaptation of the British series with the same name, the CBS version debuted in 2021. It focuses on married couple Samantha ( iZombie star Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar, Never Have I Ever) and chronicles what happens to their lives when Samantha has a near-death experience and starts to communicate with spirits.

Now, with the Ghosts season 3 premiere roughly a month away, there are new hints about which spirit got "sucked off" at the end of season 2. In the show's parlance, getting sucked off has a less NSFW meaning, but rather refers to when a ghost crosses over to the other side. According to TV Insider , the season 3 premiere will directly follow up on which character crossed over . Along with this news, three new images from the season 3 premiere have also been released. Check them out, below:

Ghosts season 3 debuts Thursday, February 15 at 9 PM ET on CBS.

What To Know About Ghosts Season 3

The logline for the season 3 premiere promises that Sam, Jay, and the remaining ghosts will have to unravel the mystery of which spirit crossed over. And, continuing the show's more episodic nature, Sam and Jay will have to relocate an owl in order to turn their barn into a restaurant for Jay. The first half of the premiere, which addresses the cliffhanger, goes back to when Sam and Jay are sitting in their car outside their estate only to see a bright light, seemingly indicating one of the characters crossing over.

It's also worth noting that the Ghosts cast secured pay increases ahead of season 3. According to reporting from Deadline , McIver and Ambudkar's paychecks doubled to $250,000 an episode. The ensemble playing the ghosts — Brandon Scott Jones (Isaac), Richie Moriarty (Pete), Danielle Pinnock (Alberta), Asher Grodman (Trevor), Román Zaragoza (Sasappis), Sheila Carrasco (Flower), Rebecca Wisocky (Hetty) and Devan Chandler Long (Thorfinn) — were mentioned as earning $100,000 an episode for the upcoming season.

Ghosts Season 2 Finale: What It Means For The Show's New Episodes

The news further solidifies Ghosts as a big hit for CBS. The sitcom ranks as the second most-watched comedy on broadcast, in a close battle with the soon-to-be-concluded Young Sheldon . But the pay increase may well suggest that none of the main spirits have yet crossed over, which opens up the door to the other minor characters that have recurred on the show.

Ghosts is available to watch on Paramount+.

Dozens of ex-Synagogue Church of all Nations members - five British - allege atrocities, including rape and forced abortions, by Nigeria's late TB Joshua.

The allegations of abuse in a secretive Lagos compound span almost 20 years.

The Synagogue Church of All Nations did not respond to the allegations but said previous claims have been unfounded.

TB Joshua, who died in 2021, was a charismatic and hugely successful preacher and televangelist who had an immense global following.

The BBC's findings over a two-year investigation include:

  • Dozens of eyewitness accounts of physical violence or torture carried out by Joshua, including instances of child abuse and people being whipped and chained
  • Numerous women who say they were sexually assaulted by Joshua, with a number claiming they were repeatedly raped for years inside the compound
  • Multiple allegations of forced abortions inside the church following the alleged rapes by Joshua, including one woman who says she had five terminations
  • Multiple first-hand accounts detailing how Joshua faked his "miracle healings", which were broadcast to millions of people around the world

One of the victims, a British woman, called Rae, was 21 years old when she abandoned her degree at Brighton University in 2002 and was recruited into the church. She spent the next 12 years as one of Joshua's so-called "disciples" inside his maze-like concrete compound in Lagos.

"We all thought we were in heaven, but we were in hell, and in hell terrible things happen," she told the BBC.

Rae says she was sexually assaulted by Joshua and subjected to a form of solitary confinement for two years. The abuse was so severe, she says she attempted suicide multiple times inside the compound.

The Synagogue Church of All Nations [Scoan] has a global following, operating a Christian TV channel called Emmanuel TV and social media networks with millions of viewers. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, tens of thousands of pilgrims from Europe, the Americas, South East Asia and Africa travelled to the church in Nigeria to witness Joshua performing "healing miracles". At least 150 visitors lived with him as disciples inside his compound in Lagos, sometimes for decades.

More than 25 former "disciples" spoke to the BBC - from the UK, Nigeria, US, South Africa, Ghana, Namibia and Germany - giving powerful corroborating testimony about their experiences within the church, with the most recent experiences in 2019. Many victims were in their teens when they first joined. In some of the British cases, their transport to Lagos was paid for by Joshua, in co-ordination with other UK churches.

Rae and multiple other interviewees compared their experiences to being in a cult.

Jessica Kaimu, from Namibia, says her ordeal lasted more than five years. She says she was 17 when Joshua first raped her, and that subsequent instances of rape by TB Joshua led to her having five forced abortions while there.

"These were backdoor type… medical treatments that we were going through… it could have killed us," she told the BBC.

Other interviewees say they were stripped and beaten with electrical cables and horse whips, and routinely denied sleep.

On his death in June 2021, TB Joshua was hailed as one of the most influential pastors in African history. Rising from poverty, he built an evangelical empire that counted dozens of political leaders, celebrities and international footballers among his associates.

He did, however, attract some controversy during his lifetime when a guesthouse for church pilgrims collapsed in 2014, killing at least 116 people.

The BBC's investigation, which was carried out with international media platform openDemocracy, is the first time multiple former church insiders have come forward to speak on the record. They say they've spent years trying to raise the alarm, but have effectively been silenced.

A number of our witnesses in Nigeria claim they were physically attacked, and in one case shot at, after previously speaking out against the abuse and posting videos containing allegations on YouTube.

A BBC crew that attempted to record footage of the church's Lagos compound from a public street in March 2022 was also fired at by the church's security, and was detained for a number of hours.

The BBC contacted Scoan with the allegations in our investigation. It did not respond to them, but denied previous claims against TB Joshua.

"Making unfounded allegations against Prophet TB Joshua is not a new occurrence… None of the allegations was ever substantiated," it wrote.

Four of the British citizens who spoke to the BBC say they reported the abuse to the UK authorities after escaping the church. They say no further action was taken.

Anneka now

In addition, a British man and his wife emailed eyewitness accounts of their ordeal and video evidence - including recordings of being held at gunpoint by men describing themselves as police who are also members of Scoan - to the British High Commission in Nigeria in March 2010 after fleeing the church. In his email, the man said his wife had been repeatedly sexually assaulted and raped by Joshua. He warned the commission that other British nationals were still inside the compound facing atrocities.

He also says no action was taken.

The UK Foreign Office did not respond to these claims, but told the BBC that it takes all reports of crime, including sexual assault and violence against British nationals overseas, very seriously.

Scoan continues to thrive today, under the leadership of Joshua's widow, Evelyn. In July 2023, she led a tour of Spain.

Anneka, who left Derby in the UK to join Scoan at the age of 17, told the BBC she believes there are many other victims who have yet to speak out. She hopes further steps will be taken to uncover Joshua's actions.

"I believe the Synagogue Church of All Nations needs a thorough investigation into why this man was able to function for so long the way he did," she said.

Andrew Tate in a T-shirt and blazer, wearing sunglasses and holding up his right hand, walks down a street in Bucharest in the middle of speaking

I’m Andrew Tate’s audience and I know why he appeals to young men

A year of investigating the TikTok ‘megabrand’ personality has shown me that – in the midst of a debate on masculinity – many fans like his focus on success more than his views on women

J ust under a year ago, I sat down with Enys, a 19-year-old Andrew Tate megafan. As we stared at each other from beneath our fringe haircuts, it felt like the hostility we might have expected had been disarmed by how much we looked alike. I am 23 and could imagine having a pint with Enys in the pub.

Enys is a “Tate success story”. He has hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok and a pay-for-subscription “home boxing” course. It’s a business strategy remarkably similar to that of his idol, who sells fans a £40 monthly service on how to get rich online called the Real World. And for £6,000, you can enter Tate’s members club, the War Room.

Once a subscriber to the Real World, Enys explained that Tate had taught him discipline and diligence. Instead of finding trouble on the streets, he’d learned to make money online. Becoming financially successful, Enys said, made you a “high-value” male. Anything less is failure.

Freddie Feltham, with an earring, a slight moustache and in a crew-cut jumper and jeans, sits on brick stairs with his knee drawn up, slightly smiling

This is the Tate playbook: bravado, machismo, wealth . It has, as a new documentary, I Am Andrew Tate , highlights, brought him millions of followers online and supposed wealth counted – at least according to him – in millions of pounds. It has brought him notoriety: the once dirt-poor boy who grew up in Luton and gained fame as a kickboxer is now a self-proclaimed “megabrand” who is changing the conversation about what it is to “be a man”. It has brought a new home and lifestyle in Romania, where he now lives and where he is facing charges of rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group to sexually exploit women – all claims he denies.

And people like Enys love him. Not once in our chat did Enys mention Tate’s misogyny and exhortations that “real men” drive fast cars and treat women as property – all delivered to those millions of followers in the rat-a-tat-tat, big-muscles style which is catnip to a certain type of YouTube fan. In fact, of the many Tate fans I’ve spoken to – publicly and privately – none has said they follow him because they love what he has to say about women. YouGov data reveals that, of the 12% of men who “like” Tate in the UK, just over half say they share his views on women.

And right there is the issue I wanted to explore. Men , many of them young and impressionable, insist that Tate’s deliberate courting of controversy is not what attracts or affects them or has any effect on their views. When I show Enys a now-deleted clip of Tate saying he’d moved to Romania because of its less stringent attitude to rape accusations (something Tate has denied), he was surprised and said he didn’t support such a warped point of view.

But in the same interview, Enys looked directly at the camera and chuckled: “You women out there, you like a man who’s controlling, and you know that.”

Which is just the kind of thing Andrew Tate would say.

Enys, with a high fringe and slight moustache, wearing a polo shirt and seated at a small round bar table, looks at a mobile phone in the hand of Freddie Feltham

When the vast majority of violence against women is perpetrated by men, we have to take responsibility as men to explain to each other what is harmful about Tate’s attitudes. Too often, it’s people who aren’t the target audience who feel compelled to speak up – often women. As a journalist with the News Movement , a social-media news business that speaks in particular to gen Z audiences aged 18-25, I had an opportunity to redress some of that imbalance.

For a year I have been following the Tate story, making three documentaries on the manosphere – that world of back-slapping “men just need to be men” attitudes that so many regurgitate and let bleed into their real lives. As a young man, I felt an acute sense of responsibility given the sexist behaviour I engaged in as a teenager. Frankly, at that age many young men act without much thought about the consequences. They can reproduce what they see online without recognising the harm. I was lucky. Being held to account by friends and family gave me the chance to stop and think, and to develop better attitudes. We are all, of course, works in progress.

The question is why people are turning to the likes of Tate.

First, he, like the Canadian culture warrior Jordan Peterson , recognises the “plight” of young men. This is a disillusioned group who feel they’re getting a worse deal than in the past, and is real, even if the substance is awry. This feeling that “Tate genuinely cares about me” creates a visceral connection.

Second, Tate argues we can recapture what might be described as straight-man masculinity. He offers a return to the “golden age”: flash men, women in bikinis, physical prowess – James Bond with tattoos. Before Tate there was the glitzy Instagram influencer Dan Bilzerian and his assault rifles, and before him, Hugh Hefner and pornography. What separates Tate from past iterations isn’t just his charismatic oration but his offer that “you too can be like me”. It draws in followers like Eli, who worked on Tate’s marketing team for two years.

Eli, with sunglasses on, next to a bright light

Eli started with so-called “red pill” online communities which spread conspiracy theories about a masculinity under threat from women. Isolated and impressionable, at age 20 Eli spent all his money to join the War Room – the private Telegram chatrooms that gave him access to his hero. Eli described the whole project as “a cult” .

He explained that Tate’s marketing strategy preys on an inferiority complex that many fans suffer from. This came to mind when I spoke to Maeve Park, who runs workshops on the manosphere in schools. She told me about one 14-year-old boy who, on the verge of tears, kept saying: “Women won’t love you if you’re poor – you have to be rich.”

TikTok still of bare-chested Andrew Tate, with headphones and sunglasses, holding a cigar and in front of a mic, with the caption “Her husbands property yes”

Added to this are Tate’s attention-grabbing pivots, keeping audiences on their toes and hungry for more. We have had Tate the Brave, fighting the establishment, and Tate, Man of Piety, stretching and flexing towards new interests and audiences.

As with many populists, Tate often talks of a shady plot against him. And like the “prophet narrative” many populists adhere to, Tate predicted he would be deplatformed and then arrested. For his superfans, Tate’s arrest was a sign of credibility, not concern.

With his newfound piety comes the promotion of his charitable work, his family and his newfound faith, Islam . Eli says that Tate told him in Dubai that he had converted to Islam for business reasons. There are a lot of young Muslim men in the world, and faith is a good disinfectant for any past wrongs.

Tate argues differently, saying that a conservative form of Islam aligns with his traditionalist views on gender roles, relationships and masculinity. As one of his best friends, Joule Sullivan, told me: “His conversion was inevitable.” I also spoke to Muslims who know Tate personally about his conversion – they saw it as genuine – as well as Muslim men and women who spoke of their concerns about this being a full-frontal reputation wash.

Recently I discovered, with the help of open-source Google data, that “Andrew Tate” is a more popular search term in Muslim-majority countries than in the UK and the US. If Tate has become more popular globally, this could explain why his follower count on X rose by millions last year while support has reportedly waned in the UK.

Where next for this one-man man machine? One year on, the key thing I have come to understand is that Tate’s masculinity is steeped in pessimism – the idea that without people like him, things can only get worse. It was learned from his father, who by Tate’s own account suffered from a narcissistic personality disorder and bullied him. Tate teaches men to be ruled by insecurity, to control everyone and everything. With the prevalence of mental health issues affecting young men, you can see the appeal.

We are in the middle of a referendum on what it means to be a man. I sense many young men feel the world is telling them what masculinity is – including a shouting Tate – without bothering to ask them or listen to their thoughts. You’d be surprised by how open to discussion many of his fans are, and how critical they can be when they are faced with Tate’s views without the bravado.

Listening a little more to what men actually think, and how they can navigate a new world steeped in equity rather than domination, might make the future for Tate and those like him a little less secure.

Elon Musk throws in with the Arizona election conspiracy crowd

Opinion: elon musk is insinuating that arizona, a key swing state, is a hotbed of illegal voters. sadly, he doesn't know what he's talking about, but his 168 million followers don't know that..

know ghost followers

For all those who believe Arizona’s elections are stolen … because, well, they just do … I give you Elon Musk, who on Tuesday insinuated to his 168.6 million followers that Arizona is a hotspot for illegal voters.

“Arizona clearly states that no proof of citizenship is required for federal elections,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Cue the gasps from coast to coast, as outraged MAGA warriors raised their pitchforks to protest the supposed plot by those crafty Arizona Democrats to pad the state's voting rolls with immigrants who are here illegally.

Naturally, Kari Lake was quick to agree.

“This is why they had to stop me,” she wrote on X. “My plan to shut down the human smuggling and their open borders policies would thwart their agenda to register illegal voters. They need the human smuggling to fill the voter rolls with new Democrat voters.”

Kari Lake’s “war room” even posted a helpful picture of Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, writing, “These kinds of things happen when a former cartel lawyer is in charge of your state’s elections.”

And you wonder why so many Americans don’t trust our elections?

State elections aren't federal elections

Mr. Musk, let me help you out here.

It’s true, as you say, that Arizona doesn’t require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. In fact, no state does.

That’s because the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled it would be illegal to do so. Instead, federal law says you need only certify, under penalty of perjury, that you are a citizen and thus eligible to vote in federal elections.

But then there are state elections.

In all, 49 states require no documented proof of citizenship to vote in state and local elections.

Can you guess which state does require you to prove you’re a citizen when you register to vote?

Cue Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer:

“Arizona is the ONLY state with ANY proof of citizenship requirement,” he wrote in reply .

That's why Arizona has 2 sets of ballots

But, of course, Richer has only 20,900 followers to Musk’s 168.6 million, so I’m guessing not much of America was reassured about voting in Arizona, a key swing state in the upcoming presidential election.

Here in the real world (as opposed to Muskland), Arizona has required proof of citizenship to register to vote in Arizona elections for nearly two decades, a law put into place by voters in 2004.

Because Arizona requires proof while federal law does not, we have two sets of ballots: the full ballot containing all races for those who have provided documents proving their citizenship and federal ballot that lists only races for president and Congress for those who have not.

We’re the only state that has a bifurcated ballot because we’re the only state that requires more than federal law in order to vote in state and local elections.

Make Elections Fair: Throws Team MAGA into a faint

As Votebeat’s Jen Fifield points out, Arizona has about 32,000 federal-only voters. A recent Votebeat analysis shows most of them are concentrated around college campuses, which can mean one of only two things:

  • Either college campuses are hotbeds of undocumented immigrants plotting to cast illegal votes.
  • Or college campuses have out-of-state students who likely left their citizenship papers back home.

If Elon Musk said it, it must be true?

And before you ask, ABC 15 has reported that 8,114 federal-only ballots were cast in Maricopa County in the 2020 election — 0.4% of the vote.

The breakdown was Joe Biden, 5,781, to Donald Trump’s 2,134.

Even if you buy into Musk’s insinulation that something nefarious is afoot in Arizona, Biden won Maricopa County by 45,109 votes. Statewide, he won by 10,457 votes.

Only don’t try to tell Musk’s millions of loyal followers that the conspiracy isn’t real. After all, they read it on X, so it must be true.

“ This was their goal all along , to import a new voter base so they can keep power indefinitely,” one follower wrote, in response to Musk's revelation.

“ This is the beginning of the end of American sovereignty,” wrote another.

“ They told us the Great Replacement Theory was just another conspiracy theory?” yet another of the MAGA faithful offered.

“ How did America get to this point? ” one asked.

How, indeed.
