**discontinued** murrays yachtsman pipe tobacco (50g tin).

For some unknown reason the manufacturer of this iconic tobacco has decided to delist it from the UK market.

As usual we have left the description on our website for historical reference and interest.

  • 50g Vacum Sealed Tin
  • Ready Rubbed
  • Pipe Tobacco

An all time classic, the Murrays Yachtsman is now produced by Orlik, which is attracting varied reviews but is this smokers who are averse to change? Nobody likes change and this can often smear your taste buds before you've even tried it. If you were in love with the original Murray's mixture you may be disappointed. If you are sampling this one with an open mind it may just be the perfect smoke for you. The Yachtsman is an aromatic blend of continental Cavendish and Virginia leaves enriched with a hint of Honey. It is not overpowering so is suitable for the less experienced or an early morning smoke to gently waken the senses.

Ready Rubbed Pipe Tobacco: The Yachtsman Pipe Tobacco is a ready rubbed tobacco blend. Ready rubbed tobacco is made up of loose strands and is ready for immediate use in the pipe with no preparation for added convenience and enjoyment.

Peterson The Royal Yacht

For all of the P&C Faithful who were concerned that Dunhill tobaccos had disappeared forever - good news! The blends are back using the same exact blends and tobaccos, coming from the same factory. The only thing that's different is that they are now under the Peterson name. Even the classic artwork remains.

Peterson The Royal Yacht is a singular blend of bright Virginias for sweetness and darker Virginias for more body and richness. The tobaccos are matured, then combined and finally finished with a unique mixture of flavors to create a blend unlike any other.

High gloss accents accompany the rich satin-finish mahogany interior. A sofa and two large barrel chairs are located to port with a games table with four chairs to starboard. The formal dining table is forward at the end of the salon with seating for 10 guests. Subtle touches of blue are seen throughout PIPE DREAM's interior, paying homage to the yacht's cruising grounds. The skylounge offers a similar layout to the main salon, with a large sectional sofa and a games table with four chairs. The walkup bar is convenient for fixing a late-night cocktail, and the large TV with an electric fireplace allows this space to be utilized for movie nights. A stunning backlit stone island is the focal point of the yacht's galley with commercial stainless-steel equipment.

PIPE DREAM's clever five-stateroom layout for 10 guests is versatile and further contributes to her excellent charter potential. The on-deck master features a king-size bed, vanity to port and a dedicated office area at the cabin's entrance. Four guest staterooms are on the lower deck, two with king-size beds and two with twins. Each stateroom showcases the same warm and welcoming styling as the rest of the yacht's interior. Watchdog: EPA's lead pipe fix sent about $3 billion to states based on unverified data

The Environmental Protection Agency watchdog says the agency distributed about $3 billion to states last year to replace harmful lead pipes based on unverified data

ST. LOUIS -- The Environmental Protection Agency distributed about $3 billion to states last year to replace harmful lead pipes based on unverified data, according to an agency inspector general's memo, likely meaning some states got too much money and others got too little.

Investigators found two states had submitted inaccurate data, the memo dated Wednesday said. It didn't name the states. The EPA has since made changes, but the inspector general said the agency could do more.

“Insufficient internal controls for verifying data led to allotments that did not represent the needs of each state, and if left unaddressed, the Agency runs the risk of using unreliable data for future” infrastructure spending, said EPA Inspector General Sean W. O’Donnell.

The agency said it disagrees with several aspects of the inspector general's memo, saying its estimate of lead pipes is the best available and the right way to allocate funding to states. The agency also said it has safe guards in place to ensure money is spent correctly.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provided $15 billion to find and replace lead pipes over five years. These pipes are especially common in the Midwest and Northeast and are typically found in older homes. Lead can reduce IQ scores in children and stunt their development. It is also linked to higher blood pressure in adults.

To distribute funds based on how many lead pipes states had, the EPA asked for estimates from states and utilities. Then, in April 2023, the agency announced the results — there are about 9.2 million lead pipes nationwide — and adjusted its funding formula.

Tom Neltner, national director with Unleaded Kids, said two states — Texas and Florida — had much higher totals than expected in those estimates. Florida ultimately received the most funding of any state in 2023: $254.8 million after an initial estimate of nearly 1.2 million lead pipes.

“By submitting inflated information, it takes money away from states that really need it,” he said.

Texas and Florida didn't immediately respond to messages left with their governor's offices and Florida's Department of Environmental Quality.

The Biden administration has prioritized delivering safe drinking water to everyone. Earlier this year, the EPA proposed a rule that would require most cities and towns to replace all their lead pipes within a decade. It has also put limits on so-called “forever chemicals” in drinking water.

Republicans have repeatedly attacked the Biden administration’s spending on climate and environmental priorities as a handout to left-wing causes without enough accountability.

The EPA’s office of inspector general is in the middle of evaluating federal funding for lead pipe replacement, and had been in contact with agency officials earlier about some of their concerns. The inspector general expects to release a final report in the fall when it will identify each states' inaccuracies.

The inspector general found a water provider in one state sent bad information to the agency and “adjustments made by another state” were also submitted.

The agency said it “performed a tremendous amount of quality assurance” work, disagreeing with the inspector general's assertions that their efforts fell short. Federal officials reviewed local lead pipe estimates, rejecting some they found inadequate.

Even before the inspector general’s memo was released, some states had already complained to the EPA that its funding decisions weren’t fair.

“We have serious concerns about the quality of the data upon which EPA relied,” a February letter to the EPA from Massachusetts officials said.

In early May, the EPA adjusted its allocation of funds for 2024, which is based on some new information it received from utilities. President Biden announced the funding at a stop in Wilmington, North Carolina. Funding for Texas dropped the most; its $146.2 million was cut by about $117.6 million. Florida had the second-biggest reduction, cut by $26.1 million. Eight other states or territories saw smaller reductions.

Nineteen states got more money, led by Minnesota with $48.7 million more and New Jersey's $40.1 million more.

Neltner said EPA deserves credit for collecting additional information to improve the accuracy of the funding granted.

The $15 billion is only a fraction of the total amount needed to replace all of the country’s lead pipes. Erik Olson, a health and food expert at the environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council, said inflated estimates by some states can direct a lot of money to the wrong place.

“I’ll just say it is suspicious,” he said.

Olson said it's the obligation of water utilities and states to submit accurate information. But EPA deserves some blame, too, “for not verifying some of these numbers," he said.

When the agency started distributing money, some states like Michigan had a long list of projects they wanted to fund. Others aren't so far along and must first spend the money on inventories to find their lead pipes. A small number of states even declined funding in the first year it was offered.

If states don’t spend all of their money, it gets reallocated to states that need it more.

Neltner worries that if states receive more money than they need, they'll spend it on expensive lead pipe inventories, not replacement efforts.

John Rumpler, clean water director with environmental group Environment America, said the important question is how well states are using the money they are given to replace lead pipes.

“Even if all of this money was perfectly allocated,” he said. “It would not remove all the lead pipes.”

I'm hoping you all humor me on this. Ive asked for recs on VAs before, but time has passed, and I have new information about my tastes. I'm looking for a nice VA hoping you guys can help. I've tried a few. Royal Yacht, Capstan, OGS, Yorktown, and Opening Night by C&D. I do like them all, but the only one I constantly reach for, and enjoy to the last sip, is the Royal Yacht. Capstan smells like heaven, but its a bit too soft in flavor to me. I have a bit of a love hate relationship with OGS. If I can get to the second half of the bowl, I'm in. Rich tobacco taste, but the brightness(?) of the first half turns me off for some reason. Yorktown honestly was just about nothing to my taste buds. I want another VA in the lineup, but I'd like some help if your game. Any suggestions?

I choose death. Haha honestly wish I could help you. All of the VAs you listed are a better alternative to Royal Yacht to me. I will say the normal VA advice, if it doesn't strike your fancy at first, just it and try it again in a few months.

Assuming that what draws you to RY is the funky taste and the nic hit, might I suggest 1792 Flake? It has boat loads of both, thought it is not a straight Va. Others with boatloads of both are the Gawith Hoggarth flavored Brown Twists. Make sure it's the Brown and not the Dark for the extra ass kick. Have you had any of them?

I would say you should try some of the Ken Byron Va blends with some of his toppings on them. I love Va blends but couldn't stand Royal Yuck. Perhaps try some G&G Plugs that have plum or some other blends that have plum toppings. It sounds like you want a fuller flavored blend and I'm not sure any straight Va blends are going to provide that for you.

As a Yachtsman--no wait that's Embers' pipe. As an admiral? No, that sounds like their black frigate shenanigans. Anyway I love the king of boats tobacco and wanted to chime in saying that I would also recommend GH&co flavored brown ropes. I understand there's a similarity to Ye Olde Sign, but I could never enjoy that one. I don't know why. It's one of my least favorites. It was the tobacco equivalent to when the lead singer of your favorite band dies and the band keeps going with a new imposter frontman.

Never understood all the Royal Yacht hate. It’s an enjoyable blend for me.

I like Royal Yacht very much. The one that comes closest that I know of is Elizabethan Mixture, but I prefer Royal Yacht. RY is very rich in flavor with some fruity, citrusy notes, supposedly the topping is plum. Nothing is quite like it, but you might enjoy St Bruno or some of the stouter va/pers, á la Hal o' The Wynd or McConnells Scottish Flake.

Starting to Get Obsessed

Amphora Virginia

Esoterica Dorchester and Dunbar. They are also lightly topped VA based blends. Maybe Rattray's Wallace Flake/Peterson University Flake if you want something a little fuller and still plum flavored.

Union Square is probably my favorite - always worth a try. Sugary sweet brights balanced out by bready, fruity reds. But if RY is your thing, you might like some of the S. Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth VAs: Full VA Flake Best Brown Flake Best Brown No 2 Brown Flake Unscented

UKRAINE carried out Nord Stream pipe blast, German police suspect

  • Three of the four Nord Stream pipelines were blasted on September 26, 2022
  • Nord Stream gas pipelines were built to transport Russian gas to Germany

German investigators are pursuing leads which could implicate Ukraine in carrying out the Nord Stream pipeline blasts last September, according to a new report.

It comes despite suspicious Russian naval activity in the area just days prior to the unexplained explosions on the pipes built to transport gas from Russia to Germany .

The blasts on September 26, 2022, caused major damage to three of the four Nord Stream pipelines, which took 15 years to construct, severing the main energy link between Russia and the West.

Despite three ongoing investigations being carried out by Germany, Sweden and Denmark, no perpetrator has yet been identified.

Since the September blasts, blame has been pinned on the US, Russia, the Ukrainian secret services and an unnamed businessman in Ukraine. All three countries have vehemently denied responsibility.

More recently, all eyes have pointed towards Russian naval activity in the Baltic Sea around the time of the explosions.

Reports in Denmark said a Russian submarine rescue ship SS-750 was photographed in the sea four days prior to the blasts.

The SS-750 has its own mini-submarine, called the AS-26, which can reach depths of 262 feet (80 metres) and carry loads of up to 50kg.

However, some critics question why Vladimir Putin would have interest in diminishing Russia's energy leverage over Europe by blowing up the vital gas pipes.

In contrast, others claim Russia may have wanted to send a warning signal to the West about the vulnerability of crucial gas pipelines at sea.

They also claim that Moscow could hide behind a screen of plausible deniability by blowing up its own pipelines in the Baltic Sea - east of the Danish island of Bornholm.

The Times reports that the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation (BKA) is now investigating new leads that could implicate Ukraine and clear Russia of wrongdoing.

In fact, investigative journalists from Germany, Poland, Sweden and Denmark claimed today that the BKA were unconvinced of any Russian sabotage after thoroughly examining Moscow's naval manoeuvres around the site of the blasts.

German investigators have now turned their attention to the Andromeda - a yacht hired by a Polish company from the north German port of Rostock just weeks before the explosions were carried out.

Andromeda is said to have docked in the marina of Christianso, a tiny Danish island northeast of Bornholm and in close proximity to where the three bombs went off, in the days leading up to the sabotage.

The yacht was found with traces of 'military-grade and underwater-deployable' explosives.

The theory suggests that five men and a woman arrived in Germany using fake Bulgarian and Romanian passports before using the yacht as a base to deploy trained divers to plant the bombs around 70m below sea level.

German investigators argue the attacks would have required aid from state security services and claim to have found evidence that could implicate Ukraine, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

The complex trail is said to lead to a shell company, a travel bureau, which was created by two Ukrainians in Warsaw.

The report also suggests German authorities have singled out two other Ukrainians, from near Kyiv and Odesa, as other members on board the yacht. One, a 26-year-old man, is alleged to have previously served in Ukraine's army.

Despite these theories , security analysts have raised doubts over how such a complex operation could have been carried out by a group on a small yacht without a submarine.

The latest investigations into who carried out the pipe blasts come as Ukraine and Russia contest over whether the city of Bakhmut has been occupied by Moscow.

While Putin has congratulated mercenary group Wagner and his Russian army on taking hold of the destroyed city in eastern Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky has continued to deny it has been taken.

  1. Yachtsman? Zulu? What are my 2 Favorite Pipes (?) With Pics

Heritage pipes are very nice. Kaywoodie called their 01 shape a yachtsman, so maybe that. The other I would call a horn. To me, a canted Dublin has a little more definition at the transition from stem to bowl. They are however, your pipes so you get to call them whatever you like. Any way you describe them, they are great looking pipes.
