THE HISTORY OF THE SAINT-TROPEZ YACHT CLUB

First a dinghy sailing activity of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, before becoming "UST Voile", this section moved to Les Canoubiers, a marvelous site particularly well suited for learning and practicing this sport.

Hosted in "temporary" premises, the Club will benefit from the equipment that we know today, in 1979, ... there have been some "developments" since!

In addition to this, you will need to know more about it.

Family atmosphere around a main activity: school and competition on "optimist". Without forgetting 4.20, Laser, even a caravel, a 5.0.5, restored by practitioners of the time, windsurfing, etc.

However, meteorology did not wait for the climate to change to offer its outbursts of all kinds, its outbursts in behavior. The human being is like that, passionate, which sometimes makes him radical to lead him to blindness damaging to the smooth running of an association.

However, the results are there. Athletes and leisure enthusiasts alike recognize themselves in an "apparently" relaxed atmosphere.

And yet, in the course of 2015, it seems opportune to merge the UST Voile with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, a return to basics?

No, the motivations are elsewhere and multiple. Let us remember that it was a great opportunity to bring together "all" Sailing under the same flag and to allow a new development of this activity in Saint-Tropez.

The "UST Voile" Association is dissolved, in favor of the "Pôle Voile Légère" created by the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez by taking over all the resources, both material and human, of the UST Voile within its organization.

The Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez has become a "Grand Club", according to the criteria of the French Sailing Federation, with more than 800 licensees. There is no shortage of events, in particular the "Voiles de Saint-Tropez, the late Nioulargue, which is the major event on the calendar.

Prestigious partners provide real support for the Club. Beyond the necessary and important financial support, it is also an accompaniment to strive for excellence.

But the commitment, for some, does not end there.

Having become a partner of Voiles de Saint-Tropez, by developing a clothing collection in the name of the event, Peter Dubens, businessman, Tropezian at heart, often present in Saint-Tropez where he owns a property and who also practices dinghy sailing in Les Canoubiers, wishes to see this activity develop, in competition, in particular on sailboats equipped with foils.

This is how he will acquire two 20-foot foiling catamarans, which he will make available to the Pôle Voile Légère. These two sailboats, which cannot be put in the hands of everyone, will navigate mainly in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

But Peter's commitment doesn't end there.

The site, which houses the Light Sailing Pole, must be a place of excellent leisure, conviviality, meetings, a haven of peace for the Members of the Nautical Society.

Among the services offered by UST Voile in its day was a snack bar around which Members could meet.

Organized in the "good franquette" style, run by young people, with simple dishes, the concept appealed even if the rules applying to such practices were not always followed to the letter.

Take up this concept but by giving ourselves the necessary means, such was the proposal of Peter Dubens. It meant :

Offer a framework integrated into the existing one but with a comfort that Members would appreciate,

Have technical installations that meet current standards,

Offer a service in relation to the new framework, by having people, both in the kitchen and in the service.

Offer other services to meet Members' requests and expectations

During an inaugural evening at the start of the 2018 season, everyone was able to appreciate the quality of the work and commitments made:

The terrace,

The open loggia,

The furniture,

The kitchen area.

It was natural to think that all these arrangements, entirely financed by Peter Dubens, became an integral part of all the existing buildings, apart from the kitchen space, the installation of which was ephemeral. It was also quite natural, for those who know him, that this approach did not include any contractual counterparts apart from a "certain" recognition.

The 2018 season is unfolding according to the principles envisaged but this does not suit everyone, including some neighbors who are surprised at the somewhat long evenings, especially as a generator also runs in the evening to provide energy. necessary for kitchen facilities

And a volley of green wood fell on everyone, the directors of the Nautical Society, the Mayor of Saint-Tropez and a few others too, no doubt, without forgetting Mr. Peter Dubens whose motives were misunderstood or deliberately interpreted. .

Mistakes were made, it's true, but did everything have to be broken? Not to mention the facilities! In any case, not only.

As if that were not enough, at the beginning of autumn 2018 the Managers of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez decided to no longer support the light sailing activity. Taking note of this decision, the form of which was questionable, the members involved, children, parents, practitioners, employees for this activity, find themselves deprived.

The Mayor of Saint-Tropez, anxious to maintain the Light Sailing activity in Saint-Tropez, is considering several solutions. It is that of a new association, the Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez, which will ultimately prevail.

We are at the end of November 2018.

The former President of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez is approached to set up this association with the help of the Director of the Light Sailing Pole.

The Yacht Club of Saint-Tropez

It was first necessary to overcome the obstacles and red tape to create the Association. Didn't we have to wait for a structure, baptized with the same name, Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez, an empty shell of meaning and activities, to be dissolved at the end of our intervention before we could file a file admissible at the Prefecture.

The birth of the Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez will be formalized on January 17, 2019

For the new Board of Directors, made up of Founding Members, the main short-term objectives were simple to state:

Create and maintain the jobs of 4 people,

Relaunch activities,

Prepare for the 2019 summer season.

As with any business, in addition to the will and commitment of those who drive it, financial resources are an important factor and condition for success.

The first provisional budget shows that the only resources, consisting of:

Of the Municipal Grant, even significant,

Membership contributions, as numerous as reason has led us to imagine,

Seasonal activities, however lucrative they may be and estimated at a reasonable amount given, in particular, the 2018 experience,

will not suffice to satisfy the first requirement in the long term.

We need to find financial partners.

At the beginning of January 2019, a financial package was put in place with the creation of an external, private company, the initial capital of which is made up of a contribution from the partners behind the approaches and actions of last year.

Among the resources of this company are the retention of members paying a substantial contribution, the collection of rent payable by the Yacht Club, and determined according to the number of visitors to the activities offered. (Catering, fitness, others)

If the principles were similar to those of the previous year, the means put in place and the responsibilities fell entirely to the Yacht Club of Saint-Tropez, thus guaranteeing the control of the activities and a strict control of the quality of members to access the facilities. and catering structures in particular.

The assembly was likely to ensure serenity within the teams, the employment contracts had been signed, especially since at the same time the commitments:

with the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez guaranteed:

payment of salaries during the transitional period,

the spread of the payment for the recovery of specific equipment, acquired during the existence of the Pôle Voile Légère, and belonging to the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez

of the City of Saint-Tropez for the payment of a substantial subsidy.

Everything was going for the best, but it was without counting the reactions of well-thinking souls, undoubtedly inhabited by a kind of "conspiratorial" phobia, imagining shell companies to smoke up reality. They doubtless think of winning a battle: weary war the people targeted withdraw.

"Calumny! Sir, you hardly know what you despise; I have seen the most honest people close to being overwhelmed by it; believe that there is no base wickedness, no horrors, no absurd tale that one does not make adopt to the idlers of a big city, by taking it well ... First a light noise, skimming the ground like a swallow before the storm ... such mouth collects it, and, piano, piano, skilfully slips it into your ear; the damage is done: it germinates, it crawls, it walks, and, rinforzando, from mouth to mouth, it goes the devil; then suddenly, do not know how, you see calumny rise up, hiss, swell, grow visibly; it soars, extends its flight, whirls, envelops, snatches, entrains, bursts and thunders, and becomes a general cry, a crescendo public, a universal chorus of hatred and proscription "

( Pierre Augustin Caron de BEAUMARCHAIS , The Barber of Seville. Act II, scene 8)

But it was also without taking into account the determination of the direct actors of the Yacht Club of Saint-Tropez, the generosity of those questioned, the unwavering support of the Municipality, to take up the challenge.

Ensuring "sailing" activities is of course essential, all managers and instructors, Olivier, Florian, Bastien, Pascal, Marine, will do their utmost!

Maintain the reception framework created the previous year: investments financed privately will be preserved, both infrastructure and furniture without counterpart.

Ensure catering appreciated by all: the arrival of Franck and Jean-Pierre, who will not count their time, will be the icing on the cake. A snack bar is open, with a renovated kitchen. The help of a few young people from the Club, with a smile, will help to provide unexpected service.

Not only the essential is assured but ambitious projects are envisaged, such as the merger with the Yacht Club of Monaco, a sports project on supports with foils, always attractive. (there it was without taking into account the events of 2020, causing the whole to be put to sleep, but that's another story)

The results at the end of the season are more than satisfactory.

Calm has returned and proof provided, if necessary, that the destination of the Canoubiers Sailing School has not been diverted.

It remains nonetheless true that, from the beginning of the autumn, we know that the financial resources, despite rigorous management, will not make it possible to settle the remaining charges, salaries, suppliers, the first deadline for the payment of the recovery of material.

Once again it was without counting on our Benefactor Members, the Municipality, our bank, the local Crédit Agricole ..

John Elkann and Peter Dubens are still there!

Crédit Agricole grants us a loan under "favorable conditions!"

The Municipality buys the equipment from the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez to make it available to us and assures us of the allocation of a grant for 2020 equivalent to that of 2019 (this commitment is also a pledge for Crédit Agricole )

So, to close 2019 and this first chapter in the history of the Yacht Club de Saint-Tropez and to sum up our gratitude with just one word:

Thank you to all those who made it possible to stay the course despite a few gales.

The road is still long, the 2020 events, as for everyone, are not likely to be completely serene but we must be confident, the Baie des Canoubiers is beautiful, the Yacht Club of Saint-Tropez has its place there, and its Members, together, will be able to spend wonderful moments there

Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez: one of the world’s largest Maxi Yacht meets!

Les Voiles 2023 is starting with a bang on Sunday. 40 Maxi Yachts, jewels of both elegance and technology, are hitting the racetrack and the outright winner of the International Maxi Association’s Mediterranean Maxi Inshore Challenge will be crowned this coming Friday. Powering into action at Le Portalet, midway through the afternoon  they’ll cross tacks with the Classic yachts sprinting from Cannes to Saint Tropez within the scope of the Yacht Club de France’s Autumn Cup. Once everyone’s in the gulf, the tone will be set for a dazzling week of competition in celebration of the convivial spirit that is synonymous with Les Voiles, where the resplendence of yachting takes on a whole new level. 250 sailboats, over 3,000 sailors, daily musical entertainment and the traditional event highlights that have forged the reputation of Les Voiles will converge around the all-new Village des Voiles which this year has pride of place atop the town’s Jean Réveille jetty.

A paperless Les Voiles  Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez’s paperless approach to all its publications is taking on a whole new dimension this year. Indeed, the 3,000 sailors and all the public can now access everything they need in just one click by scanning a QR code, which is notably available on the event’s website. Principal Race Officer, Georges Korhel, welcomes this highly connected virtuous approach with open arms as it benefits the planet and makes the work of his teams so much simpler. Going forward, the skippers, sailors and fans will have at their fingertips all the latest information about the different race schedules and results via smartphone or tablet.

One of the finest Maxi meets on the planet! With 40 Maxis set to hit the racetrack, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez is one of the main events on the race schedule for the International Maxi Association presided over by Benoit de Froidmont. At the cutting edge of technology, with an LOA in excess of 30 metres on occasion, these magnificent monohulls are split into 4 different groups in Saint Tropez, according to each yacht’s measurement and rating, ensuring that the competition is as fair as possible. This will be the last of 6 meetings this season to crown the champion of the IMA Mediterranean Maxi Inshore Challenge (PalmaVela, Sorrento Trophy, Rolex Giraglia, Copa del Rey, Rolex Cup) so posting a stellar performance in Saint Tropez is an absolute must for many in their bid to round off the year in style.

Benoit de Froidmont, President of the International Maxi Association. “2023 ends here for the Maxis. It’s been a fantastic, windy and hotly contested season with a record participation. The association has really gone from strength to strength with 60 members racing in our competitions. We’re happy with this size. Saint Tropez is a special venue for us. The event is both festive and incredibly competitive. I’m racing on Wallyno (Wally 60), in a very competitive Maxi C class. We won 10 years ago and it’d be great to take another win…”

Pierre Roinson ,  President of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez “By getting the Maxis out on the racetrack tomorrow, we’re reviving the Nioulargue experience of 43 years ago and going back to our roots in the process. Les Voiles is an unmissable event for these boats, which will be concluding their season here. Once again, Les Voiles will be treating fans of beautiful sailboats to this extraordinary mix of classic and modern yachts, with competitor numbers set at 250 throughout the event. The event is also continuing to step up its efforts to champion ecology and sustainable development, work with local youngsters, use geostationary marks and ensure any publications related to the event are paperless.

Programme 2023  (details of the programme ashore are available online via Les Voiles website) Sunday 1 October : regattas for the Maxis, registration of the Classic and Modern yachts measuring up to 18.28 metres, arrival of the Yacht Club de France autumn cup (Cannes-Saint-Tropez) Monday 2 October : regattas for the Maxis and the Modern yachts Tuesday 3 October : regattas for the whole fleet  Wednesday 4 October : regattas for the Modern and Classic yachts, Day Off for the Maxis and Club 55 Maxi Cup Thursday 5 October : Challenge Day and Club 55 Cup for the Modern and Classic yachts, regattas for the Maxis Friday 6 October : regattas for the whole fleet, Prize-giving for the Maxis Saturday 7 October : regattas for the Modern and Classic yachts,  Sunday 8 October : Prize-giving for the Modern and Classic yachts

About Port de Saint Tropez

The Port de Saint Tropez marina, with its range of innovative services, is one of the most famous harbors in the world. The marina is designed for 734 berths, located on an area of 9 hectares - in two basins divided by the Epi promenade. Located on the south coast of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, this marina is central to the coastal village, known throughout the world and is one of the best options for booking a yacht parking in the French Riviera. The once modest marina for small fishing boats today has become one of the most modern and famous gathering places for yachtsmen from around the world.

Port de Saint Tropez yacht parking can offer a range of services, including:

  • Summing up electricity;
  • Toilet, shower;
  • A restaurant;
  • Self-service laundry;
  • Coast security;
  • Pumping wastewater;
  • Tanks for waste oil.

In high season, car traffic along the coastal track can be extremely intense. Hotels, like marinas in the port, are booked in advance. Tipping is a must, especially if you want to return. On both sides of the marina are numerous beaches, the most famous of which is Pampelonne, which houses the Club 55 and Tahiti Beach beach restaurants. If you prefer to avoid crowds of vacationers, it is worth exploring other options, including - Plages La Glaye, La Ponche and de la Fontarette.

Port de Saint Tropez today is one of the symbols of French luxury, while the port of Saint-Tropez retains the charm of past years.

If you want to try the signature flavors of port, we recommend the Le Girelier restaurant (Quai Jean Jaures), where you can try dishes made from fresh catch. If you want to try more exotic cuisine, head to Quai de l'Epi Lane, where you will find the excellent Indian restaurant Gandhi. And, of course, if you just want to make yourself an ice break in the middle of summer, try the delicious ice cream in Barbarac (rue du Général Allard).

Port de Saint Tropez Pier is an ideal berth booking option for sailors who want to receive exclusive service and maximum comfort. Luxury motor yachts and sailboats feel at home here. Be sure to pay attention to the Societe Nautique et Sportive de Saint-Tropez yacht club, which has been leading its history since 1899 - the largest number of lovers of sea travel gather here at the end of September for the legendary regatta Les Voiles de Saint Tropez.

Les Voiles 2023 hits the racetrack! 40 gleaming Maxi Yachts kicked off today’s action in a gulf bathed in sunshine reminiscent of the height of the summer in southern France. With it came close-contact racing, tactics and strategy too.

The racers from every corner of the globe really put on a show for the huge crowds hugging the seawalls and the hills of Saint Tropez. Carrying huge amounts of light, floaty sail area, the Maxis coped splendidly with a fickle breeze, which required expert trimming from the teams. Meantime, with the bulk of the Classic yachts making for Saint Tropez today from Cannes, this year’s fleet for Les Voiles de Saint Tropez is just about complete and the gulf is once again bursting at the seams as it launches into an epic week of racing.

The Maxis take centre stage

For the 40 Maxis tasked with kicking off a wonderful week of competition at Les Voiles, today’s programme comprised a 19-mile course skirting the edge of the gulf, with a start and a finish at Le Portalet. Quite the honour for all the crews of these rapid racing monohulls, which will temporarily give up their place on the racecourse tomorrow to the Modern yachts and then the Classic yachts on Tuesday. At 13:00 hours local time, flat seas and a light E’ly wind enabled Race Management to release 4 groups of Maxis onto the racetrack, starting with the pacier boats. The light Maxi 72s Jethou and North Star were soon being challenged by the Botin 85 Deep Blue favouring the middle of the race zone, which was being stirred up by scores of spectator boats relishing this Sunday’s spectacle. Close contact, technical legs, careful trimming and light airs called for all the sailors to perform at their best. Significant wind shifts added a little more spice to the finish line, forcing the sailors to throw in some furious changes of tack and headsail. Cannonball took the win in elapsed time ahead of the Botin 85 Deep Blue, the two yachts respectively topping tonight’s leader board for the Maxi A1 and Maxi A2 groups. Another excellent performance was posted by the Wally Lyra, a 77-foot sloop that heads the Maxi B group in corrected time following a nice mano a mano with Open Season, the quick Cafe Racer. President de Froidmont’s Wallyno also enjoyed a great start at the top of the Maxi C Group thanks to being very at ease in the fickle gulf airs.

The Wallys grace Saint Tropez

Saint Tropez is the only place in France where you can witness the sleek, futuristic lines of the magnificent Luca Bassani-designed Wallys racing. Nine of them will do battle all week long with the latest crop of high-performance prototypes offshore of Pampelonne. Three formidable Wally Centos (100 feet) are competing, V, Magic Carpet 3 and Galateia, which has just taken victory in Porto Cervo in the Maxi Rolex Cup. 29 metres of pure elegance, Bullitt will be equally keen to excel amidst the big boats that make up this stunning fleet of 40 Maxis at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. Also worth watching is the new Wally 101 Y3K, an ultra-light Italian sloop, plus the French Wally 107 Spirit of Malouen X, which won here in Maxi A last year.

Andrew McIrvine, IMA Secretary General

“What is tricky is getting boats out sailing which sometimes perform very differently. We’ve tried various formulas over recent years to define the cruisers and racer-cruisers, but nothing has proven conclusive. Therefore, we’re adhering to the more universal IRC rule. Length is no longer a factor, as we have 72-foot boats, which are faster than the 100-footers. As a result, we’ve created a second trophy within the Maxi As, with a group dedicated to 72 footers. We’re delighted to be racing in the Gulf of Saint Tropez and in the bay of Pampelonne. With the use of geostationary mark positioning here, we have great flexibility with our course setting.”

The Yacht Club de France’s Autumn Cup

The Autumn Cup typically rounds off the Regates Royales in Cannes by enabling its fleet of Classic yachts to race to Saint Tropez and compete at Les Voiles. Alas, the weather gods had other plans, but tonight Saint Tropez is brimming with these sublime race boats from the golden age of yachting, which have gradually made it into port at their own pace throughout the day. Sébastien David, Director of Development for the Yacht Club de France: “It’s only the second time that the organisation has been forced to cancel the event. In 2021, due to significant squalls along the course, with gusts of over 40 knots recorded, and this year due to lack of breeze. This evening we’re providing all the racers with a warm welcome as they continue with their late season racing in Saint Tropez.”

Modern yachts to race tomorrow, Monday

Some 123 Modern yachts are racing in IRC in Saint Tropez, with 4 groups split into B, C, D and E, which is one less than last year. They’ll set sail from Le Portalet tomorrow at 12:30 hours for a coastal course.

Like last year, the North Sails Trophy will crown the best yacht in IRC B. Laurent Corbin’s crew on the First 53 Yaziga is hoping to triumph again, but will have to outpace their main rival of 2022, the Solaris 50 Nergy, as well as some 25 souped up cruiser-racers.

The BMW Trophy will reward the best of 25 increasingly prestigious IRC C entries. Nanoq, the Prince of Denmark’s TP52, bagged another win in 2022, but will have to keep an eye on the line-up’s other 52 footers this year, as well as a number of racing thoroughbreds built by the likes of Swan, Cookson and Grand Soleil.

35 boats will compete in IRC D for the Suzuki Trophy, all of them fantastic 9 to 12-metre racer-cruisers. Three Tofinou 12s will vie against designs by Mills, Farr, Joubert and Judel-Vrolijk, all determined to shine in this their last race meet of the year. Finally, IRC E will comprise 37 craft measuring 8 to 12 metres including First 31.7s, Farr 30s, Tofinou 9.5s and JPKs. Keep your eyes peeled for some very evenly matched fleets!

Programme 2023  (details of the programme ashoe are available online via Les Voiles website)

Saint-Tropez cruise port

Region Mediterranean - Black Sea

Local Time 2024-05-19 07:22

Port Saint-Tropez cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Saint-Tropez, France Riviera. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Saint-Tropez is a French Riviera cruise port in southeastern France (western Mediterranean). The port is located approx 100 km (62 mi) west of Nice (Var department, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region). The town covers a total area of approx 15 km2 (6 mi2) and has population around 6,000.

The list of  French Riviera (Cote d'Azur)  ports also includes  Antibes ,  Bandol ,  Cannes ,  Cassis ,  Marseille ,  Sanary-sur-Mer ,  St Raphael ,  Toulon ,  Villefranche-sur-Mer (Nice)  and  Monte Carlo (Monaco) .

Among the best tourist attractions are the famous beaches, numerous nightclubs, bars and bistros. Musee de l'Annonciade has a fine art collection. A 16th-18th-century fort is currently serving as a naval museum.

The fame of St Tropez came after the actress Brigitte Bardot starred in the movie "And God Created Woman" (1956). The town is named after a Roman soldier killed for his Christian faith. The well-preserved body of the soldier floated ashore and pilgrims came to pay homage to his burial site, given the name of Saint Tropez.

Port Grimaud in St Tropez bay was built in 1966 by a local architect and yachtsman. The port is a sheltered boat harbor waterway, covering a water area of 27 hectares (67 acres) and with 15 km (9 mi) long quays. The port's min water level is 3,5 m (harbor's entrance) and 2 m (in the canals),

St Tropez port has 2 marinas (800 berths) and serves boats, ferries and cruise ships. In the summer, a regularly scheduled ferry service is offered between St Tropez and Nice, Cannes, St Raphael, Sainte-Maxime. Private yacht chartering is also a popular way of travel along the French Riviera.

Saint-Tropez cruise terminal

Saint-Tropez is a tender port, which means cruise ships anchor in St Tropez Bay and their passengers are transported to Port Grimaud (yacht marinas) via the ship's tender boats.

Frankreich: Urlaubsnostalgie in Saint-Tropez – „Das schönste Fischerdorf der Welt“

yacht club saint tropez

Brigitte Bardot hält Hof in Saint-Tropez.

Anzeige: Mit WELT günstiger Urlaub machen: Lufthansa-Gutschein

Wo wohnt man gut?
