Vintage Bros is proud to offer this beautiful 1961 17' Thompson Sea Lancer for sale. This boat is in restored condition and would make a great family boat for the begining hobbyist.

At Vintage Bros we are antique and classic boat enthusiasts first and boat brokers second.  We love putting buyer's and seller's together and would love to own any of the boats we sell.

This boat was restored by the current owner's father. The finish has held up quite nicely. The smart style of this vessel made it a popular choice when new. The Thompson fide is legendary.

The outboard engine on this boat is a 1964 75 hp Johnson. This motor is reliable and powerful.  It's a great match for this hull. The trailer is a 1964 Ajax single axle. It's functional and road worthy but probably needs a set of tires.

Starting forward in her cabin, she has a single berth forward (currently baby proofed) on port and head to starboard. Just aft of the guest she has her galley to port and dinette to starboard. Up to the salon she has a lower helm on starboard and exit doors on both sides. The salon is large, bright and airy. Down to the master cabin, she has the full sized washer and dryer on starboard and then the master fully aft. The master features a Full sized Island berth, loads of storage and make-up counter. In the forward port corner is her master head which has a bath tub. Her exterior has a seat on the forward end of her cabin and full walk around decks. Per the Seller: The unit is very clean and has been very well maintained. The owner had both engines replaced with rebuilds, the port in 2016 and the starboard in 2022; and all the corresponding parts, new starter and alternator, of which the maintenance documentation is available by the marine shop that did the work. It is estimated that the current hours is 80 hours for port engine and 40 hours for the starboard since new rebuilt engines were installed. There is a small soft spot on the cabin floor next to the V-berth, where you step to get in and out of the V-berth. Seller will not be having this fixed, it will be up to the next owner. All the electronics are reported to be in working order. Up for sale is one of my sweet boats that would be a very nice classic cruising boat for somebody. It does need a little transom work but the small hole does not go through both layers of wood so a new piece of wood could be inserted in to fix. It has a built in 10-12 gallon fuel tank, Teleflex steering has been added and comes with canvas travel cover. Along the outside edge of the gunwales needs a little sanding and clear coat but that is the only place that needs varnish work but the driver side flip-out windshield needs a little glue and a screw also (see picture). The trailer is in good shape and pulls just fine and the tires are in good condition as are the bearings and the trailer lights do work. Boat has current registration but trailer does not have current registration. If the buy it now would be done then I would include a 1961? Johnson 40 HP outboard that does run and include some controls and wiring box. All of this fine project is being sold as is where is with local pickup only. This Sea Coaster is in excellent condition. Complete with original electric start Johnson 25 hp motor in perfect working order. Fuel tank has been restored along with new hoses. Restored Mastercraft trailer is also included. Current Wisconsin titles for both the trailer and boat. Have the original manuals for the motor, electric start option and Master Craft trailer brochure. You will never find another nicer Thompson Sea Coaster . This one is a gem. Just a note: all wood boats take on some water until they swell up. This is normal and this boat does that too.

1964 Thompson Sea Mate Deluxe wood boat with trailer ready for restoration!

This is a 1964 Thompson Sea Mate Deluxe wood boat. Boat needs total restoration, does have some dry rot, but is still very solid overall. This would be a very fun and reasonable project with great reward at the end, without a huge money investment compared to restoring a car. The trailer is registrared as a 1964 so I'm assuming its the orginal pair. Tires on the trailer are weather checked and I would not recommend travel at a long distance with them. If the boat sells for above $600 I will include brand new tires installed. Boat is complete minus the original 35hp Evinrude Lark engine, and also the front windshield is gone, I do have the side windows which are in great shape. Seats are in very usuable condition with only a couple minor tears. Dash padding is in good condition just needs some clean up. Take a look at pictures and please ask any questions and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I have sold several boats and cars on ebay with great transactions, please do remember that this is a project boat that needs restoration. Step Aboard a Restored Presidential Yacht That Once Belonged to JFK and Jackie O.

Design veteran Jack Fhillips embarked on a three-year historic restoration to preserve this important piece of American history.

At the time, the nearly 100-year-old vessel needed an extensive architectural overhaul to save it from "certain demise," according to Fhillips. Charles Modica, a longtime client and local developer in Palm Beach County, had purchased the run-down ship and was seeking a historical interiors transformation that would replicate the decor of the Kennedy era as closely as possible.

Preceding Air Force One, presidential yachts (affectionately known as "Floating White Houses") were important destinations for escaping the "claustrophobic tension" of the Oval Office, Henry Kissinger wrote. They were used for everything from meetings with prominent world leaders to pleasure cruises down the Potomac after a tough day of running a country.

A revolutionary yacht in terms of speed upon its inaugural launch in 1931, the Honey Fitz served five consecutive U.S. presidents: Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard M. Nixon, after being originally commissioned for Sewell Avery of Montgomery Ward, one of the most prominent retail behemoths of the day. Though Nixon renamed the boat Patricia in honor of his wife, and it has since been renamed and repurposed by various private owners, the ship is best known as Honey Fitz in popular culture once JFK took the helm, and Modica sought to restore the vessel to its highest prominence.

"After 50 years of practicing, this project was a perfect and natural fit for my firm," says Fhillips, who has a background in historical preservation as well as interiors, and, as a resident of Palm Beach County, has worked on many private yachts.

The Honey Fitz first went through a three-year restoration process that required a complete overhaul of beams, subfloor, decks, and the superstructure of the yacht in line with experts in traditional shipwright methods, wooden yacht craftsmen, historical records, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations.

Fhillips finally got to take the reins with the interiors in January 2023 after combing through archived photographs, footage, and articles written about the ship, alongside the Honey Fitz 's captain and first mate. The team was able to piece together an immaculate interiors refitting and restoration that honors the ship's most historic (and glamorous) era during the Kennedy administration. Below, you can see a side-by-side view of the ship setting sail in 1961 and today.

"We serendipitously located the original company, Bielecky Brothers , in Queens, New York that Jackie Kennedy sourced for all the rattan furniture on the aft deck," Fhillips says.

To honor the yacht's storied past, Fhillips says, "We located copies of hand sketches of built-in sofas Jackie Kennedy drew on White House stationary that was recreated by a very talented man, Brad London, of Total Refit, Inc. "

Those sofas are the focal point of the main salon, and the team also recreated the rattan oxbow club chairs, then styled the space with Kennedy family photos that would have been on the ship during the 1960s, as well as other memorabilia. Plenty more Kennedy mementos can be found in the stateroom in a vintage blue leather suitcase.

Modica had an English Regency-era antique dining set that was appropriate of the time that makes a perfect pairing with the LismoreWaterford crystal stemware reminiscent to the pattern gifted to JFK by the People of Ireland. The built-in buffet was rebuilt to its original integrity as well.

"My favorite spot on the boat would have to be the aft deck," Fhillips says. "It is so historically correct, from the iconic Kennedy captain's chair to the black telephone JFK used to the left of the chair. The rattan furniture was recreated, and we even located vintage gout stools that were seen in old photographs."

While the ship has completed its service to our country's presidents, it's certain to have a glamorous new era as it enters its next century. The Honey Fitz will now serve for use on limited charters and fundraising events, an ever-present reminder of the enduring legacy—and style—of both John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Fhillips and his team of experts spent three years restoring this iconic vessel to its former glory. First launched in 1931, Fhillips has prepared this yacht to look as good at 100 as it did on its first day at sea.

Fhillips brought in Waterford 's Lismore cut crystal that is reminiscent of the pattern gifted to JFK by the People of Ireland.

Even the yacht's bar space is based on the design during the JFK administration. The design team relied on archival photographs, footage, articles, and the knowledge of wooden yacht craftsmen.

The sleek galley kitchen may seem futuristic compared to its 1960s heyday, but its layout and design is in line with how it looked during the Kennedy administration.

The stateroom features custom embroidered Ralph Lauren pillows by Annapolis Pillow Company . Fhillips found the vintage Singer sewing stool on eBay .

The stateroom and bathroom are peppered with Kennedy memorabilia. The 19th century oil paintings are similar to the art selected by the Kennedys.

Fhillips commissioned replicas of the Bielecky Brothers furnishings Jackie Kennedy originally selected for the deck, while Canvas Designers Inc. recreated the iconic JFK custom captain's chair. Vintage gout stool, eBay .

The last time central Pennsylvania’s Lancaster Country Club hosted the U.S. Women’s Open in 2015, 135,000 spectators came out, setting an all-time attendance record at the national golf championship that still stands today. This figure doesn’t even include the scores of Conestoga River kayakers who paddled alongside the classic William Flynn design.

Nine years later, with women’s participation in the sport booming—thanks to over 800,000 women taking up golf during the pandemic—the odds of attracting gargantuan galleries and eclipsing the prior record are high.

Eleven-time LPGA Tour winner Lexi Thompson, who has banked over $14 million in tournament winnings over her career, is bullish on that prospect. She is renting a house for the week to accommodate her whole family so they can once again take in the tournament and support her.

“We want to see the game continue to grow and get those high numbers, whether that’s TV coverage or the fans out there supporting us. I think the women’s game is moving in that direction and it’s great to see those numbers. We’re continuing to grow and hopefully the weather cooperates with us. I’m sure they’re advertising the U.S. Women’s Open very well so hopefully we’ll get some big crowds,” Thompson said.

The purse is a record $12 million, up $1 million from last year and $8 million more than a decade ago. While the prize money appreciation is celebrated by players and signals that interest in the women’s game has grown by leaps and bounds, a gender gap remains—$20 million is up for grabs at the Men’s U.S. Open. However, pay parity certainly seems less illusory than it was even a few years ago.

“I think we’re moving in that direction and we’ve seen it with the prize funds and purses in all the major championships. We still have quite a bit to go, it’s baby steps but all we can do is try our best to show the talent that we have and get our personalities out to help grow the game. I hope that we do eventually get to equal pay, but I think we have some work to do,” Thompson said.

Thompson also advocates for supporting woman-owned small businesses, a cause she champions through her partnership with U.S. Women’s Open sponsor American Express American Express . The company is once again using the occasion of the national championship to spotlight local businesses, a program now in its third year.

This week, the logo for local breakfast spot Savoy Truffle Market will be emblazoned on Lexi’s stand bag while Celine Boutier and Gabi Ruffels will be repping Lancaster Beignet Company and Nicole Taylor Boutique, respectively.

Thompson, who also participated in the program in its first two years, teaming up with Carmel area groomer Diggidy Dog and Pinehurst boutique Cooper & Bailey's, describes the experience as a privilege.

“It’s been an honor for me to show the importance of small businesses in local areas. I think it’s amazing what AMEX does for these small businesses. It helps them continue to grow and get the word out about their business and that’s where it all starts. I’m very honored and appreciative that they want me to help grow their business and be a part of it,” she said.

Thompson looks forward to chowing down at Savoy Truffle Market, which purports to serve up Lancaster's best breakfast sandwiches, during tournament week.

“I definitely plan on giving them a try because my favorite meal is breakfast—especially sandwiches.”

Thompson, currently 54 th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, has been struggling of late, missing the cut in her last three tournament starts. But her game tends to go into a higher gear as the season heats up and she has finished in the top 5 three times in the past six years at this tourney. She has been putting in the practice time to get dialed into her A game for the U.S Open.

“I’ve been working really hard on getting more consistency, especially in the ball striking—that’s where I gain most of my confidence—and also in getting those putts when needed,” Thompson said. “I’ve been putting in the hours, really on all parts of my game. Ball striking is what I lean on so I’ve been working hard on that, but I’ve also been working two or three hours a day on the putting as well,” she added.

A tenacious competitor, Thompson has a track record for stepping up and rising to the occasion on the biggest stages. Given just two-weeks’ notice ahead of an opportunity to play against the men at the Shriners Children Open last season, Lexi jumped at the chance to become the seventh woman to compete in a PGA Tour event and went on to shoot even par through two rounds, finishing just three strokes shy of the cutline.

“I just wanted to tee it up and not so much have the message be about me playing against the men, but me going out and showing these kids, which is what the Shriners are all about, that anything is possible and that they should go after their dreams and not let anybody or anything get in the way of that. It was all about the kids that week, doing the kids’ clinics and seeing them out there—that was where my heart truly was. It was one of the most special weeks of my life,” Thompson said.

Last year Thompson took home the LPGA’s Founders Award, an award celebrating character and values that exemplify the ideals of the tour. She ranks winning the award among her highest career achievements.

“My parents raised me to know I’m no better than anybody else. I have my kind heart and that’s how I grew up. If I have a bad day on the golf course, of course I’m going to be frustrated, but the fans and the sponsors, that’s what makes the tournament real and what makes us able to play. So, I’ll sign every autograph, take every picture because they took time out of their lives to come support me and they make the tournaments possible. If I can make someone else’s day better, it makes me happier."

Thompson, 29, announced this morning that she plans to retire at the end of the 2024 season so this will very likely be her last U.S. Open appearance as a player.

Richard Sherman, Songwriter of Many Spoonfuls of Sugar, Dies at 95

He and his brother, Robert, teamed up to write the songs for “Mary Poppins” and other Disney classics. They also gave the world “It’s a Small World (After All).”

Richard M. Sherman, the younger brother in a songwriting team that won two Oscars and two Grammys, brought Disney movies to musical life and gave the world numbers like “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and the ubiquitous, multiply translated “It’s a Small World (After All),” died on Saturday in Beverly Hills, Calif. He was 95.

The death, in a hospital, was announced by the Walt Disney Company.

The careers of the Shermans — Richard and Robert — were inextricably linked with Walt Disney. Their Academy Awards were for “ Chim Chim Cher-ee ,” a chimney sweep’s alternately cheerful and plaintive anthem from “Mary Poppins” (1964), and for the film’s score. Their Grammy Awards were for “Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too,” shared in 1975 for best recording for children, and the “Mary Poppins” score.

“ It’s a Small World ” was written for the Disney theme-park ride of the same name. The song plays as guests in boats pass among 240 dolls of many nations with identical faces — tiny can-can and folk dancers, mermaids and mariachi bands — plus Big Ben, the Taj Mahal and grinning farm animals.

“People want to kiss us or kill us,” Richard Sherman said in a 2011 video interview about the song, which he said was “the biggest hit of the World’s Fair,” where it was introduced in 1964.

The Shermans brought a musical-theater sensibility to movie songwriting. The question was never which came first, the music or the words; what came first was the idea.

The framework of “ Mary Poppins ” did not exist until the Shermans got their hands on P.L. Travers’s beloved books about a magical nanny, a series of adventures in 1930s London with no discernible conflict or resolution. In the movie, the problem is the children’s behavior, brought on by a neglectful father. It also seemed like bad taste to employ live-in servants during hard economic times, so they moved the Banks family to the Edwardian era.

The making of “Mary Poppins” was dramatized in the 2013 movie “Saving Mr. Banks,” which starred Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. “The script is ghastly,” Travers says early in the film. Although the movie’s version of Travers never learns to love the dancing cartoons, she becomes quite taken with the Shermans (Jason Schwartzman as Richard, B.J. Novak as Robert) and their songs. “Those Sherman boys,” she tells Disney — “they have quite turned my head.”

After Mr. Disney’s death in 1966, the Shermans wrote for others.

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (1968), a fantasy film based on a children’s book by Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, starred Dick Van Dyke as an early-20th-century inventor and was produced by Albert R. Broccoli, who also produced the Bond films. The Shermans’ memorable score included a lullaby, “Hushabye Mountain”; a novelty number, “Chu-Chi Face”; and the title song, a tribute to a car (“our fine four-fendered friend”).

“Snoopy, Come Home!” (1972), a feature film featuring Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang, was “enhanced by some really nice tunes,” The Times’s critic Howard Thompson wrote. They included “No Dogs Allowed,” “Best of Buddies” and, with the Shermans up to their old word-inventing tricks, “ Fundamental-Friend-Dependability .”

“Charlotte’s Web” (1973), the animated film based on E.B. White’s tale of a likable pig and a highly literate spider, was a Hanna Barbera and Paramount production. The songs included “Mother Earth and Father Time” and “Chin Up,” both sung by Debbie Reynolds.

Back at Disney, the Shermans wrote the songs for two animated features, “The Jungle Book” (1967) and “The Aristocats” (1970), and for the largely live-action “ Bedknobs and Broomsticks ” (1971), starring Angela Lansbury.

Richard Morton Sherman was born on June 12, 1928, in Manhattan, the younger son of Al Sherman, a Jewish immigrant from Russia who became a Tin Pan Alley songwriter, and Rosa (Dancis) Sherman, an actress.

When Richard was 9, the family moved to Southern California. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School, where he studied piano, flute and piccolo, and then from Bard College in upstate New York, where he was a music major.

In 1951, Richard and Robert’s father bet them that they couldn’t write and sell a song. Accepting the challenge, they wrote “Gold Can Buy Anything (but Love),” which was recorded by the cowboy star Gene Autry.

In 1960, their “Y ou’re Sixteen (You’re Beautiful, and You’re Mine) ,” recorded by Johnny Burnette, became a Top 10 hit. (Attitudes toward the lyrics later changed when listeners no longer automatically imagined a 17-year-old boy singing to a peer.)

A year earlier, the brothers had their first big hit when Annette Funicello, who had been a Mouseketeer on Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club,” recorded “Tall Paul” (1959), which reached No. 7 on the Billboard singles chart. Their work for Ms. Funicello led to a meeting with Walt Disney himself, and that day he asked them to write a song for the movie that would become “ The Parent Trap ” (1961).

They delivered: “ Let’s Get Together ,” sung by Hayley Mills in the dual role of spunky adolescent twins, was their third Top 10 hit. Disney soon put the brothers under contract.

In their first decade with the studio, the Sherman brothers wrote music for almost a dozen features, including “The Sword in the Stone” (1963), an animated tale of Merlin and King Arthur; an Oscar-winning short cartoon, “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day” (1968); and the television series “The Magical World of Disney.”

They also wrote the screenplays for four live-action films, including “Tom Sawyer” (1973) and “The Slipper and the Rose” (1976), a musical version of the Cinderella story.

The Sherman brothers made their Broadway debut in 1974 with “Over Here!,” a musical pastiche of World War II nostalgia (“Buy a Victory Bond,” “Where Did the Good Times Go?”) starring Patty and Maxene Andrews, two of the original Andrews Sisters. Clive Barnes , reviewing it in The Times, called it “preposterously bad, but also preposterously engaging and, in its way, devilish clever.”

The show was a box-office success but closed after a 10-month run. Some said the problem was a salary dispute.

The Shermans had theater hits on both sides of the Atlantic. The stage version of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” opened in London in 2002 and ran for three years. “The great joy of the show,” a review in The Guardian said, “is the way it returns the Sherman brothers’ excellent tunes to their theatrical origins.”

The Shermans had written new songs for the show. Ben Brantley, writing in The Times when it opened in New York in 2005, did not care for them. The numbers, he wrote, were “adhesively rhythmic, repetitive and chipper, not unlike what you might hear in singalong hour in a pre-K class.” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” closed eight months later.

Then came the stage version of “Mary Poppins.”

“Joyous, spectacular and heart-tugging,” said The Independent in London, where the show ran from 2004 to 2008. “Handsome, homily-packed and rather tedious,” Mr. Brantley wrote in The Times when the show opened in New York.

Mr. Brantley did, however, admire the elegant stage set: “A spoonful of spectacle,” he observed, “helps the medicine go down.” Audiences were fine with that, and the show, which opened in 2006, ran until 2013.

But all was not harmonious with the Sherman brothers. Over the years, sibling rivalry developed into serious tensions.

Some suggested that the men’s military experiences were a factor. In 1945, Robert Sherman was one of the first American soldiers to enter Dachau, the brutal Nazi death camp. A few years later, Richard Sherman served stateside, leading the Army’s glee club and orchestra.

“Bob and I are two and a half years and about five eons apart,” Richard Sherman said in “ The Boys: The Sherman Brothers’ Story ,” a 2009 documentary about their careers.

They presented a united front in interviews, but at screenings they sat with their families on opposite sides of the theater. They never saw each other socially.

In 1948, Mr. Sherman married Corinne Newman. They divorced in 1956. He married Elizabeth Gluck in 1957.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife; a son, Gregory, and a daughter, Victoria Wolf, from that marriage; a daughter from his first marriage, Lynda Rothstein; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Robert Sherman died in 2012.

The Sherman brothers were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005 and awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2008.

Richard Sherman’s later work included songs for the film “Christopher Robin” (2018), a combination of live action and animation starring Ewan McGregor as the grown-up human protagonist of the Winnie-the-Pooh books. They were sung by the Pooh characters and by Mr. Sherman himself, who was the piano player on the beach in the end credits .

That same year, a soundstage at Disney Studios was renamed the Sherman Brothers Stage.

“I always wanted to be a songwriter,” he said in a 2014 video interview, recalling his early days. “It was a calling for me.”

Because of an editing error, an earlier version of this obituary referred incorrectly to the four live-action films, including “Tom Sawyer” and “The Slipper and the Rose,” for which Mr. Sherman and his brother, Robert, wrote the screenplays as well as the songs. They were not produced by the Walt Disney Company.
