An excellent yacht club with prime real estate on Solomons island. Nice dock and lovely old clubhouse. Bar area and dining room are comfortable with a great view of Back Creek. About 200 members. Check their website for transient pricing.

Solomon’s Island Yacht Club – The Friendliest Club on the Chesapeake Bay

By: Fay Powell – WAYC Chairwoman

Recently, I took a trip to Maryland with a couple of Arizona Yacht Club burgees in tow. My hopes were to exchange with at least one yacht club while seeing family back east.

When visiting, I typically stay in a place called Solomons Island. It’s a fantastic spot nestled on the Chesapeake Bay with Maritime Museums, a sailing association, and plenty of crab to go around. The scenery is absolutely picturesque complete with hundreds of masts in the air. It seems like no matter which direction you turn; there is sailing.

What would a sailing community be without a yacht club? The Solomons Island Yacht Club is nicknamed the friendliest club on the bay; I assure you they live up to their name.

As I approached the door, I noticed a members-only sign. I didn’t know if it was a Catalina Yacht Club situation where it’s an actual private club or if they provide reciprocal privileges. I nervously walked in to find a split-level floor plan – upstairs, a view of the Chesapeake, and downstairs a bustling bar filled with yachties.

I asked the bartender if they allowed reciprocals, and she immediately found the Commodore. The Commodore, Greg Wanamaker, signed me into the guestbook and was excited to introduce me to club members and exchange burgees. He told me that they were going for the Guinness Book of world records and currently had 509. They even have someone on their board who oversees the burgee collection.

solomons island yacht club

The folks found it hard to believe there was a community of sailors, let alone a yacht club in Arizona. The questions were endless: What kind of boat do you have? How many members are there? How big is Lake Pleasant? Tempe Town Lake is just a river! After showing a few pictures and exchanging stories, they finally believed me.

A couple of Dark and Stormy‘s and fish tacos later, I headed down to the dock with the Commodore and other board members for the exchange. The Arizona Yacht Club burgee was added to the roster making their collection a nice round 510!

Post-exchange, I made some more friends and learned about the island. I was invited to home crab boils, tours of the bay by boat, and to come back and visit anytime.

Anyone in southern Maryland should check out this fabulous club and its wonderful, friendly members. I know I’ll be back.

Anchors up & full sails,

Fay Powell – WAYC Chairwoman

The Memorial Service will be live on the Rausch Funeral Home Facebook page at the below link. We will start the live at 10:55 am, if you get on before then you will have to refresh your page after 10:55 am. https://www.facebook.com/RauschFH/

Martin J. Nash (Marty) 73, passed away peacefully in his home in Lusby, MD, on April 20, 2024 with his beloved wife, Cathy by his side. Marty was born in Middletown, OH, on June 28, 1950 to Welby and Jacqueline (Jackie) Nash. He attended Middletown High School and went on to attend Miami University in Oxford, OH. He received an honorable discharge from the US Air Force. Marty was a true Patriot who loved the flag and all it stood for and supported this country with his whole heart. He loved a good political debate and would defend his positions with great passion. Marty has been active and supportive of law enforcement his entire adult career, starting as a photographer for the Coroner’s office in OH and in various capacities in Prince Georges County Maryland after he moved there in the early 1970s with his first wife. Marty worked in various capacities in the meetings and conventions business, including audio-visual production, set design, exhibit hall design and set up, shipping, security, and logistics coordination. In that capacity, he provided production and audio-visual support for the Inaugural Balls of President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford. When providing audio-visual support for many other dignitaries at various scientific association conventions, including First Lady Rosalyn Carter and Tipper Gore, he coordinated with the Secret Service and local law enforcement officials. He also worked on several Cherry Blossom Parades and other extraordinary events in Washington, DC. In the early 1980s, he eventually started his own audiovisual company, Meetings International, where he served as President. In the mid-1980s while working on a convention in San Francisco, CA, he met his future wife Cathy. They both loved the meetings and convention business, working in that field for several decades, where they travelled all over the country for work and pleasure. Marty had many interests including anything computer related. He was a “computer geek” before it was even a common term. Currently, his computer inventory of at least 20 computers includes one of the very first “portable” laptops (weighing about 20 lbs). He was a computer wizard and many of his friends relied on him for technical support. He could build anything, fix anything, wire anything, and if he didn’t know how, he’d spend hours/days researching to find out. He also was a licensed amateur radio operator and enjoyed conversing with people all over the world. His other passion was boating on the Chesapeake Bay. After going out one weekend on a power boat owned by Cathy’s father, he went out the next week and bought his first power boat – a 19’ run about. As any boater knows, you outgrow your boat and are always looking to get a bigger one. His next boat was a 28’, then a 32’, a 40’ and finally, his prized possession a 46’ Sea Ray. He was never happier than when he was behind the wheel of his boat. Marty and Cathy and their sons enjoyed many years boating all over the Bay and met most of their dearest friends through boating at Herrington Harbor before moving their boat to Solomons in 1993 where they met many more life-long friends. Arranging for slips and traveling with up to 20+ boats, their annual trip to the “Crab Derby” in Crisfield, MD, was the highlight of their boating season. He helped give their boys their life-long love of the water and boating. Marty created the “Shed Concert” and raised thousands of dollars for Children’s Hospital over several years. He put a band on the back of his boat in Solomons and many people came by smaller boats and anchored out behind them to enjoy an afternoon of music, cold beer, and a charity auction. In 2003 Marty and Cathy eventually bought a house in Lusby, MD near Solomons Island. Marty’s other prized possession was his 2002 Corvette, which is still in mint condition. He never got a scratch on it. Joining the Solomons Island Yacht Club (SIYC) in 2000, Cathy and Marty met even more friends who they still have to this day. Marty served as House Chair, Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore, and eventually Commodore of SIYC in 2010. He also served as their very first Webmaster and created the first website for the Club. Marty devoted many years to the Club and some traditions he and Cathy started are still in place today. He had the pleasure of chauffeuring the Club Princesses on the back of his Corvette during many Annual PRAD (Patuxent Appreciation Day) Parades. He was never prouder of doing that than year he was Commodore, when he had both of his princesses, Doris Matteson and Laura Andre, ride in the parade on his Corvette. Marty was a former member of the Wicomico Yacht Club on the Eastern Shore and a member of the American Legion Post 274, Lusby, MD. Marty was preceded in death by his parents Welby and Jackie Nash, and his first-born son Bryan S. Nash. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cathy, son Kevin P. Nash (Naomi) and stepson Jason T. Earnest (Amy Romano), sisters Suzanne Powell (Mike), Sally McIntosh, and Jayne Harper (Tony). He also leaves behind two grandsons, Will and Michael Nash, and Amy’s sons who he considered to be grandsons, Giovanni and Dominic Romano, as well as 1 nephew and 3 nieces, and several great nieces and a great nephew. Marty will be greatly missed by his family and many long-time friends. A fiercely loyal friend, if he liked you, you were a friend for life and he’d do anything for you. He loved good music as long as it was before 1970, was the life of the party, and was known to enjoy a couple of cold Miller Lites now and again. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 am at Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD 20657, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at the Solomons Island Yacht Club, 14604 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD 20688. At Marty’s request, “no suits and ties.” Casual attire is welcomed. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The American Legion Post 274, 11820 HG Trueman Road, Lusby, MD 20657 or Tunnel to Towers t2t.com

8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In

Yacht Clubs and Marinas

FoodfindsAsia.com | 8 Yacht Clubs and Marinas in the Philippines to Moor Your Boat In | Filipinos’ history as a maritime people date back to prehistoric times. In fact, the Philippines’ basic sociopolitical unit today, the barangay, traces its etymological origins to the balangay , the ancient outrigger boats that were used by precolonial Filipino communities to explore and conquer islands this side of the Pacific. As a people belonging to a seafaring culture, it’s no wonder that modern Filipinos are taking a retrospective look at their glorious past as Austronesian mariners and are developing a renewed love for the ocean and marinas as present-day yachtsmen.

Today, Philippine marinas look to accommodate more and more yachts and other pleasure watercrafts as the years go by. In 2017, an ASEAN Briefing op-ed piece named the Philippines as a country with high potential in yacht industry growth. The natural beauty of the Philippine islands and its fantastic bays, combined with a growing interest in leisurely sea travel, can explain the spike in yachting activities throughout the country.

Are you part of the demographic that’s become enamored of the yachting lifestyle? Do you want to know where in the country you can berth your watercraft? Leading sailboat and motorboat authority Europa Yachts is happy to enter the conversation, and recommends the following locations for discovering the Philippines through yachting. Here is a short list of clubs and marinas in the country, organized by island region.

Manila Yacht Club and Marina, Manila, Metro Manila

Established in 1927, the Manila Yacht Club and Marina is one of the oldest yacht clubs in all of Asia, and is nestled in the scenic Manila Bay. It is also near other well-known landmarks in the city, such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the headquarters of the Philippine Navy, and the US Embassy. Facilities in the marina include a launching ramp and a fueling center, and the club itself is host to a restaurant and gorgeous function rooms. The Manila Yacht Club only welcomes visitors who arrive by boat, and it charges an initial security deposit of USD 750 upon arrival. Club membership is mandatory for medium and long-term mooring of boats.

Subic Bay Yacht Club, Zambales

The Subic Bay Yacht Club, which was founded in 1998, upholds itself as the country’s premier yacht club. It operates in the deepest bay in the country, and can host vessels well beyond 50 meters in length. Already benefitting from the innate beauty of the Zambales mountains surrounding it, the club hosts a number of other attractions, including its luxury accommodations, swimming pools, and its own movie theater, bowling alley, and nightclub. Those who venture outside of the club’s premises can also shop for well-priced imported goods at the Subic Freeport Zone, engage in water sports , or sign up for diving excursions.

Punta Fuego Yacht Club, Batangas

Peaceful Punta Fuego is a mecca for those who love the sport of sailing. As per its official website, the Punta Fuego Yacht Club aims to serve “a dynamic and vibrant community of boat enthusiasts and yacht owners.” This it does by playing host to a diverse population of watercrafts, from large catamarans and mono-hull yachts to small boats. Non-members of the club may use the berths for up to 3 weeks, and can refuel at the marina’s fueling station. The yacht club offers other amenities such as locker rooms, shower rooms, Internet facilities, a chart room, and a restaurant called Barracuda Bar, which serves delicious fares. Outside of the yachting crowd, Punta Fuego Yacht Club also caters to those wishing to celebrate weddings, conferences, and corporate events in their opulent quarters.

Puerto Galera Yacht Club, Oriental Mindoro

Further south, yachtsmen may moor at the Puerto Galera Yacht Club in Oriental Mindoro, an island location that’s home to tourist attractions like the Sabang Wreck dive site, lively beachfront resorts, and the Malasimbo Music Festival. Puerto Galera Yacht Club has been in operation for almost thirty years and lends services such as refueling provisions and yacht repairs from its marina. Boat owners also enjoy optimal convenience if mooring here, as they can also shop for spare parts in the nearby Batangas port.

Busuanga Yacht Club, Puerta del Sol Bay Marina, Palawan

Beautiful Palawan is a bucket-list destination for many, especially those who dream of cruising its crystalline waters. Accommodating the yachting community in this island province is the Busuanga Yacht Club, which promises secure mooring amidst breathtaking white-sand beaches. Here, each vessel will benefit from a typhoon-safe harbor, easy refueling, and direct access to transportation hubs like the New Busuanga Airport. Adjoining this marina is the Puerta del Sol Bay Resort, which offers luxurious accommodations to visitors. When not atop the deck of a boat, travelers can also explore the lagoons and freshwater lakes of Coron, go shipwreck diving, or relax in the hot springs of Maquinit.

Iloilo Sailing Club, Arevelo, Iloilo City, Iloilo

Iloilo Province is home to some of the country’s most beautiful old-world architecture, a flourishing ecotourism industry, and delectably fresh seafood cuisine. What will round off an unforgettable visit to Iloilo, however, is an excursion to the Iloilo Sailing Club on a leisure watercraft. The club accepts visitors and encourages membership in the case of medium and long-stay mooring. It also hosts a number of amenities and activities, including a dinghy storage, a beach bar and restaurant, and classes for those who want to learn about sailing. In recent months, the Iloilo Sailing Club has also been a convenient meet-up point for big maritime events, such as the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta and the Seafarers’ Job Fair.

Cebu Yacht Club, Mactan Island, Cebu

The historic Mactan Island in Cebu was the site of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s arrival in the Philippines. Now known as a commercial hub that hosts a prolific furniture and musical instruments industries, Mactan is also the location of the Cebu Yacht Club, an institution that is beloved by the locals. Aside from being an ideal spot to restock on much-needed fuel and supplies, the Cebu Yacht Club is also a trusted club to commission for boat repairs. There’s a good vibe in this club for everybody, as it sports both luxury accommodations and a waterfront strip of restaurants that laid-back diners can frequent. MINDANAO

Holiday Oceanview Marina, Samal Island, Davao del Norte

The Holiday Oceanview Marina is a major attraction of Samal Island in Davao del Norte Province, one that welcomes Filipino and foreign yachtsmen alike to moor within its premises. The space is quite roomy, in fact, with 56 berths that can fit vessels up to 15 meters in length. The club also has a boat ramp that can accommodate boats up to 18 meters in length. The well-guarded and weather-safe marina is a gateway to some of Mindanao’s finest attractions, such as the Pearl Farm, Hagimit Falls, and Giant Clam Sanctuary.

There’s no better way to discover the Philippines from end to end than getting onboard a seaworthy vessel and going on a long cruise, with stops in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Find a safe harbor in any of these major clubs and marinas, and participate in the renaissance of sailing in the Philippines.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland Graduates 356 at 2024 Commencement

Graduates in cap & gown carrying diplomas

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the National Public Honors College, graduated 356 students with Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees on Saturday, May 11, outdoors on the campus’ Townhouse Green.

Maryland’s longest-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD 5th) delivered the keynote address. In his message to the College's newest alumni, he spoke of the impact the pandemic had on this class of students and the significance of the class of 2024 being together amongst family, friends, faculty and staff for the commencement exercises. He said he brought up the pandemic not to focus on what was lost but to reflect on what was gained.

"For while your generation knows better than any other the pain of being apart, you also know better than any other the joy that comes with joining together," Hoyer said. "Because you felt the sorrow of separation, you understand the importance of inclusion. You saw the devastation of distance, and now you have special appreciation for the pleasure of proximity."

Hoyer received an honorary degree from St. Mary’s College in 1993, at his first appearance as commencement speaker. Hoyer also spoke before the class of 2007.

President Tuajuanda C. Jordan, accompanied by Board of Trustees Chair Susan Dyer, presented an honorary degree to national higher education leader Lynn Pasquerella.

Since 2016, Pasquerella has been president of the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Prior to her position as president of AAC&U, she was president of Mount Holyoke College; provost at the University of Hartford; and vice provost for academic affairs and dean of the graduate school at the University of Rhode Island, where she taught for more than 20 years.

She earned her PhD in philosophy from Brown University; undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College; and associate of arts degree from Quinebaug Valley Community College.

President Jordan had one request for the Class of 2024. “Recognize and understand the society into which you are now venturing. Give back. Remember the people who have not had the same opportunity, the same blessings, the same education you have. Live the St. Mary’s Way.”

The College’s newest alumni heard from one of the five class valedictorians. The valedictorians were: Sabrina Kuhn, Laura McCarty, Margaret Neuman, Angelie Roche and Ben Springer.

Kuhn was selected to address the class via lottery. She spoke of how she and many classmates grew into adulthood during a time of “great uncertainty,” speaking of experiencing that transition amidst a global pandemic. “The fact that we all made it to graduation here today is a testament to the resilience of our generation,” Kuhn said. Kuhn charged the class to “go forward courageously, armed with knowledge and compassion from your time here, to make the world a better place.”

President Jordan recognized six faculty who retired this year: Karen Crawford, professor of biology; David Ellsworth, associate professor of film and media studies; Rachel Myerowitz, professor of biology; Elizabeth Osborn, professor of sociology; Larry Vote, professor of music; and Christine Wooley, professor of English. Collectively, these retirees represent 161 years of teaching.

The commencement was live-streamed on the College’s website.

solomons island yacht club

A yacht club is a sports club specifically related to yachting. Yacht Clubs are mostly located by the sea, although there are some that have been established at a lake or riverside locations. Yacht or sailing clubs have either a marina or a delimited section of the beach or shoreline with buoys marking the areas off-limits for swimmers as well as safe offshore anchorages. On shore they also include a perimeter reserved for the exclusive use of the members of the club as well as a clubhouse with attached bar, café or restaurant where members socialize in a pleasant and informal setting.

Although the terms Yacht Club and Sailing Club tend to be synonymous, some general differences regarding the recreational use of boats can be broadly outlined. Historically a Yacht Club tended to focus on a membership composed of yacht owners, including motorboats. This type of club often was extremely exclusive, attracting the aristocracy or the high class and leaving small boat owners out of the circle. On the other hand, a Sailing Club tended to focus on a membership composed exclusively of owners of sailboats, including smaller boats such as dinghies. These became very popular towards the end of the 19th century when small boats began to be produced on an industrial scale. Now days, many Yacht Clubs offer the same sailing opportunities to their members as Sailing clubs.

Yacht clubs are often known by their initials (e.g. New York Yacht Club abbreviated as NYYC and Kamini Yacht Club abbreviated as KYC). Many well known yacht clubs, including the Yacht Club de France and the Royal Yacht Squadron, have been established under royal patronage or have been granted the title at some point in their history.

Organized and run by the membership, Yacht Clubs became a place to promote the sport of sailboat racing and cruising, as well as provide a meeting place for the particular social community. The membership is a mixture of people with specific recreational affinities. Generally, the members include those who sail as crew for cruising or racing, as well as boat owners. Also it is up to the members to decide on the objectives of the club to satisfy the membership and to attract other like-minded individuals. For example, some clubs include owners of powerboats, while others specifically exclude them. In order to overcome difficulties concerning the affinities of their members one particular club may have two sections, a sailing section and a powerboat section.

Members Clubs often have paid staff for catering, bar duty, boat yard duty, accounts, office etc. Control and organization of the club is done for the membership via members elected by the membership into roles such as Sailing Secretary, Commodore, Cruising Captain, Racing Captain etc. Smaller clubs typically have a condition of membership which requires active participation of the membership in activities such as maintenance of club facilities and equipment.

Unlike the classical clubs where the membership is the focus, certain clubs are run on a commercial basis. They may be owned by individuals or a company to provide a service and generate a profit. Often they are associated with a particular marina or port. Objectives are usually very similar to members clubs but the social side maybe more dominant.

There is a long historical tradition behind yacht clubs. According to the date of establishment, the Neva Yacht Club, founded in 1718 in Russia, is the oldest yacht club. However, since this Russian Yacht Club was established by a decree of Tsar Peter the Great, it does not fully qualify as a proper club in the modern sense, understood as a voluntary association of members who organize and run the club. Therefore, the Royal Cork Yacht Club founded in Ireland in 1720 is also widely acknowledged as the oldest yacht club in the world, despite having gone through periods of dormancy and undergone name changes in its long history, much in the same manner as the Neva Yacht Club. It was only in 1846 that the first yacht club in Russia to adopt British-style Members Club regulations was established. Using this Western understanding of what a club or society is, the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, KSSS, founded 1830, becomes the oldest European yacht club outside the British Isles, and the fifth oldest in the world.

A number of the world's most renowned Yacht Clubs are located in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Canada, and the United States. The first yacht club in North America was the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, located on the Northwest Arm in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada established in July 1837. The most prestigious of them are organized within the International Council of Yacht Clubs.

The Kieler Yacht-Club in Northern Germany organizes the yearly Kiel Week, the biggest sailing event in the world, that is celebrated since 1882.

Racing and Sailing Activities

Most clubs, regardless of the size of their craft, have a well defined racing program. Clubs may host regattas ranging from informal local events to national championships. Often clubs have a regular weekday evening racing schedule or a weekend racing schedule organized by the membership. Many yacht clubs field teams to compete against other clubs in team racing. There are also some specific boat models and lengths which have their own club. These boat ownership clubs often hold single design races for their members; the Islander 36 association is such a club. With the growth of sailing at secondary schools and universities many yacht clubs host Interscholastic Sailing Association or Intercollegiate Sailing Association regattas. Additionally, a number of yacht clubs enter into agreements with schools to provide dock space and practice facilities for the school teams year-round.

Clubs with active adult sailing programs most often feature junior sailing programs as well. Most often these programs enroll children from ages 8 to 16. Children most often learn to sail in the optimist (dinghy) and then progress to a larger single handed dinghy such as starling or laser dinghy or two handed such as 420 (dinghy). These junior sailing programs often also teach children rowing, kayaking, general seamanship and navigation. Children are also taught how to race competitively from an early age and most clubs host junior sailing regattas each season.

Club Burgee

Members belonging to a yacht club or sailing organization may fly their club's unique flag (usually triangular), called a burgee, both while under way and at anchor (however, not while racing). Traditionally, the burgee was flown from the main masthead, however it may also be flown from a small pole on the bow pulpit, or even the starboard rigging beneath the lowest starboard spreader on a flag halyard. Some traditional clubs have also been granted the right to fly a special yacht ensign at the stern.

At traditional clubs the burgee and the ensign is hoisted at 08:00 each morning and lowered each evening at sunset. This ceremony is called colours. Traditionally, the first time a member of one club visits another, there is an exchange of burgees. Exchanged burgees are often displayed on the premises of clubs, such as at their clubhouse or bar.

Organization

Yacht clubs are organized like any other club or organisation with committees, chairman, directors, etc. Due to the connection with the sea and hence the navy, the various posts use naval terminology. For example, the chairman/CEO is the Commodore. Usually, under the Commodore there are also the Vice Commodore (in charge of land-based activities) and the Rear Commodore (in charge of water-based activities); for clubs in the United States they might in turn be assisted by thePort Captain and the Fleet Captain respectively. In a few clubs in the United Kingdom the Admiral, which is one rank above the Commodore, is the senior officer. Each of these ranks has specific responsibilities to ensure the smooth running of the club.

Reciprocating Clubs

Reciprocal Agreements between clubs allow members of one club to use the facilities of a reciprocating club at no cost or at a nominal fee such as for electricity. This allows club members to cruise to many destinations without incurring the higher cost of marina moorage, etc.

General Comments About the Website

FROM Donald:  " This is an awesome website. I found the information that I needed right away from one of the over 20,000 free articles that you provide as a public service. I'm surprised that so much if this site is free. But I still signed up so I could access the thousands of expanded pages, interesting articles, and dozens of valuable programs! The member's library of books, magazines and videos that I can view online is really terrific! I understand that you and your staff are all unpaid volunteers. Please keep up the good work. And I commend you for your plans to add another 10,000 free informative articles over the next year. I'm thrilled to support you in this endeavor with my small membership donation. Thanks again for all your hard work. "

FROM Huey:  " I agree with my Uncle, I too have found the articles to be very enlightening. They say that it will take about 100,000 articles to cover the full scope that they have envisioned for the website. They have over 20,000 articles so far and that's doing pretty well, but it could take several years to get the rest. I also noticed that many of the Main Topic Pages and some of the article pages are still in the rough draft stage. I guess that they will fill in as they can get volunteers to work on them. But what I can't figure out is why anyone would spend the time writing informative in depth articles just to give away free to this website for publication? What's in it for them? "

FROM Dewey:  " Well Huey, to me It looks like most of the articles on this website are written by very informed people, like boating instructors, boat designers, boat builders, riggers, electricians, fitters, marine repair technicians and marine surveyors. Writing such articles helps establish them as knowledgeable professionals. After all, this website was originally created by a school for marine technicians and marine surveyors. The website is growing in content every day. They even had to move to a bigger, more powerful server because the website's traffic has been growing exponentially. "

FROM Louie:  " I agree with everyone above. This site is quickly becoming the ultimate reference resource about every aspect of boats and ships for everyone from the beginning recreational boater to the seasoned professional mariner. I use the topic pages on the right sidebar to browse around the website. It's like a Junior Woodchucks' Guidebook for Boaters. Their Members' Library of over 300 popular and obscure books and over 200 magazine back issues that can be viewed online is fabulous. The Academy's magazine is especially informative. On top of that, there is the "Ask-An-Expert program for members where you can get an expert's answer to any of your boat questions. And a whole years membership is only $25. What a deal! I really love being part of this "Everything About Boats" community and help provide thousands of helpful articles free to the public. I think that I'll sit down right now and write an article about my experiences boating with my uncle. "

FROM Scrooge: " You rave about this website like it was the best thing since sliced bread. Well, I think it stinks. Sure, it has a lot of good information for boaters, and they're adding more every day, but it will probably never be finished. Furthermore, I don't even own a boat. And I wouldn't have a boat even if someone gave me one. Boats are a waste of money and time and energy and money! They're just a hole in the water you pour money into. If you gave me a boat, I'd sell it quicker then you could say Baggywrinkle. Then I'd lock up the cash with all my other money so I could keep my eye on it and count it every day. Bah humbug. "

FROM Daisy:  " I'm just so glad that Donald got the boat so we and the boys could enjoy boating — together. And of course all of the girls, April, May, and June, love to be on the water too, especially when that is where the boys are. Oh poor Scrooge, boating is more fun then you could possibly imagine. "

FROM Scrooge: " After seeing how much fun you all have on the water together, I regret that I didn't have that much fun when I was young. I've had a change of heart, and I'm giving each of you a Lifetime Academy Membership . "

FROM Editor:  " For those of you that have stayed with us this far, many thanks, and we hope that you found this little narrative informative. Your faithful support inspires us to keep working on this phenomenal website. We know that we have a lot more to do. Ultimately, we hope that we can help you enjoy the wonder filled world of boating as much as we do. We are all waiting to see what you have to say about this webpage article. Submit any comments via email To: Comments♣EverythingAboutBoats.org (Replace "♣" with "@"). Be sure to include this page's title in the subject line. Also, your corrections, updates, additions and suggestions are welcomed. Please submit them via email To: Editor♣EverythingAboutBoats.org (Replace "♣" with "@"). It has been truly amazing to see what we have been able to accomplished when we've worked together. Thanks to all those that have donated their valuable time and energy, and a special THANK YOU to all that have supported this cause with their membership donations. "
