Aesha Scott wasn't sure she'd come back

Franchise veteran Aesha Scott made her triumphant return to Bravo on "Below Deck Down Under" Season 1, and she continues to bring the same humor that fans fell in love with during "Below Deck Mediterranean" Season 4 and Season 5. On "Down Under," she traded her second stew stripes for the silver stripes of a chief stew. While it's a stressful gig, the New Zealand native was eager to rise to the occasion. As she told  Bravo Insider , "It's just so, so exciting because I think, you know, I'd been second [stew] for a long time... I'm one of those people in life where it's like, if you're too comfortable, then you need to change because you should always be growing and always challenging yourself."

Scott's job title isn't the only major change. As she shared near the top of the first season of "Down Under," the "Below Deck" star is in a committed relationship with boyfriend Scott Dobson ; her days of boat-mances, a la her fling with former "Below Deck: Med" castmate Jack Stirrup, may very well be a thing of the past. 

Though Scott was an immediate fan favorite, her return to the "Below Deck" universe wasn't always a given. As she told ET in 2020, "I think if [Bravo] asked me [to be chief stew], it's definitely something that I would think about ... do feel very checked out of yachting." Thankfully, she's checked back in.

A Below Deck alum told Jason Chambers to join

Standing at the helm of Season 1 of "Below Deck Down Under" is Captain Jason Chambers. The youngest captain to ever be a part of the "Below Deck" franchise, Chambers has logged over 20 years of experience on the water. And we have series alum and fellow Aussie  Hannah Ferrier  to thank for the telegenic captain's involvement in the series. "I reached out to her about the conversations I had with the production team," Chambers shared with Decider , "and she told me: 'You're a great fit for it. Just be yourself and just go and have fun.'" 

While "Below Deck" viewers have watched some chief stews and captains clash in the past, it sure seems like Aesha Scott and Chambers get along swimmingly — partly because he's such a team player. As she shared on Ferrier's " Dear Reality, You're Effed " podcast, Chambers helped out the interior team regularly. "Every extra job that I just could not deal with, he was doing it behind the scenes. And I didn't even ask him," she shared. When Ferrier said he'd be a great fit, she wasn't kidding. 

While the captain is all business when it comes to yachting, he wouldn't say no to any and all future boat-mances. When asked about his romantic life on  "Watch What Happens Live ," Chambers told Andy Cohen he was open to being in a relationship with a stew. We can only imagine what the stack of crew applications looks like.

The crew makes bank

If you're up working hard in some of the most luxurious locations in the world, yachting just might be your calling. So, how much might one rake in as a crew member on a 181-foot yacht like the one on "Below Deck Down Under"?  According to Crewfinders , deckhands and stews on a superyacht of this size can bring in over $60,000 a year, the chief stew and the chef can make as much as $84,000 a year, the bosun at least $66,000, and the captain can earn six figures.

On top of that, there's the whole TV show factor. Former cast member Eddie Lucas made waves when he mentioned money matters to the New York Post in 2022. "While we do get paid better than a normal yachtie, of course, we are still not getting paid what people like the Housewives are making, which is a little frustrating, because they're not really working — they're just going out to dinner and fighting," he stated. Zoinks.

On an episode of "Pop-Off! with James," former deckhand Rhylee Gerber theorized that the constant rotation of crew members each season may have something to do with why the yacht crew is paid less than established "Real Housewives" stars. "If [Lucas] said that, number one, we are paid much, much, much, much, much less than the Housewives, which is crazy because it's Bravo," she said. "It's still a big network. There's still a big production company behind it. They've got the money."

Yes, guests pay to be on the boat

Chartering a fully staffed yacht is expensive no matter how you slice it, and as producer Mark Cronin shared in a Reddit AMA , a primary guest on a "Below Deck" series pays about half of what it'd cost if cameras were not around. So how much can a three-day vacation on a lavish superyacht in some of the most captivating places in the world set a "Below Deck" guest back? While we don't know the exact price of a "Below Deck Down Under" charter, we can develop a guesstimate based on a report by blind item gossip Instagram account DeuxMoi (via Bravo After Thoughts ).

In 2020, DeuxMoi shared a list of details that were reportedly given to "Below Deck Mediterranean" Season 6 guests. "We have two charters that will be 2 nights, 3 days for the discounted price of $40,000. There are 5 charters that are 3 night, 4 days at $45,000," reads the doc. It goes on to confirm travel, food, and beverages are all included in that ticket price.

As for the tip? The guests are expected to cough up at least 15% of the total original cost (i.e., the price before the "Below Deck" discount). However, as Cronin told Bravo's The Daily Dish , the gratuity amount is left up to the guests' discretion. As "Below Deck" viewers know, guest tips do not always live up to expectation. 

Captain Jason Chambers crashed a superyacht

Captain Jason Chambers is known for stealing hearts, yes, but he also made a bit of a name for himself after he crashed a superyacht. The newest "Below Deck "  captain had a titanic fail in Cairns when the 45.6-meter superyacht he was captaining narrowly missed smashing right into a restaurant. In 2019, he was at the wheel when a mechanical failure caused the luxury watercraft to careen into the marina. 

Customers at the neighboring floating restaurant Prawn Star were certainly in for dinner and a show. "It was scary, people were screaming and very frightened. But no one was hurt and that's the most important thing," Prawn Star's manager told ABC at the time. The "Below Deck Down Under" star  explained to 7News Cairns  that a jammed gear caused the collision, and he shut down all engines and did what he could under pressure to avoid injuring any people. Thankfully, the multimillion-dollar yacht only sustained superficial damages after the incident, and more importantly, nobody was injured during the commotion.

The chef was ready to be a villain

A "Below Deck" season isn't complete without the chef and chief stew blowing up on each other, and "Below Deck Down Under" is no different. But based on an interview McKeown gave  Showbiz Cheat Sheet , it sounds like the chef was more than happy to play the role of villain. "So, you know, [production is] going to keep people entertained," he said, "And yeah, I anticipated the hate. I really enjoy it because it's only going to make me go further. So, bring it."

McKeown and Scott butted heads about a number of things, such as plating timing and his relatively simple approach to menu planning. In one especially heated interaction that bubbled up in Episode 6 , she questioned his experience as a yacht chef, and he fired back, "I don't know, how many vacuums have you pushed, how many f**king frying pans did you flip? You stick to vacuums, I'll stick to cooking."

Scott didn't mince words when  Decider  asked about McKeown. "I've dealt with other chefs before who could be really mean, but they were amazing at cooking so I gave them a bit of a pass," she said. "Ryan was not a good chef." However, McKeown believes Scott's to blame for why they started off on the wrong foot. "What was one of the first things she said to me? 'What kind of person — are you cheffy?' So, I'm pretty sure arrogance started with her," he said in Bravo's The Daily Dish .

Bosun Jamie Sayed has worn many hats

Before landing gigs on superyachts and launching his reality television debut, Jamie Sayed built up quite an intense resume. The "Below Deck Down Under" bosun told Decider that he worked as a police officer, lifeguard, and soldier before he got into the yachting industry. 

For now, you can keep up with Sayed thanks to his very own podcast called " Wake Up With Jamie ." "I was at a bar sitting by myself in Panama, and I noticed some people nearby who were telling stories. I realized that every single person has a story," he recalled to Decider. "So, I thought why don't I create a podcast and start interviewing random people and ask them to share their stories." And as for what else the future may hold for the bosun? It sounds like the sky's the limit — literally. As he told Bravo's The Daily Dish , he hopes not only to become a licensed helicopter pilot, but get his own chopper.

There isn't much privacy on Below Deck

So what do "Below Deck Down Under" cast members have to sacrifice to call some of the most stunning locations in the world their "office"? Well, according to "Below Deck Mediterranean" alum Jessica Moore, most of your personal space goes right out the porthole, for starters. In an interview with In Touch , Moore dished on just how limited alone time is onboard the megayachts. "There's zero privacy unless you're going to the restroom." But even then the bathroom isn't altogether safe. As  The New York Times noted in a 2020 feature about the series, the camera crew may still keep tabs on cast members when they are in the toilet — especially if they aren't alone. 

Understandably, this level of surveillance can take some getting used to, but as "Below Deck Down Under" star Captain Jason Chambers told Distractify , it's easy to forget you're on a TV show when you're busy, you know, keeping a giant boat running. 

In Season 3 of "Below Deck," things changed in a big way when longtime boson Eddie Lucas and stew Rocky Dakota turned the ship's laundry room into, to borrow a phrase from "Jersey Shore," the smush room. "Below Deck" star Captain Lee Rosbach told Cosmopolitan , "Well, we never used to have cameras in [the laundry room], because, let's face it, there's not a lot of action in there... until that season. Now we have cameras in the laundry room. The show morphs each year." Big "Below Deck" Brother is always watching. 

There's a lot of work behind the scenes

There's a lot more to "Below Deck" than meets the eye; not unlike the yacht itself, the series is a well-oiled machine. As noted in Boat International , the show's production team works around the clock. Longtime series EP Tania Hamidi explained to the outlet, "The camera crew are running around and hiding from each other while getting all the action." The behind-the-scenes team may be bigger than you'd expect. According to  The New York Times , around 50 hotel rooms are booked during filming to accommodate the crew. 

The production crew has a lot of plates to spin, including keeping tabs on little details. As bosun Eddie Lucas recalled to Cosmopolitan , he got a slap on the wrist after he wound up with a cut on his head from horsing around with Ben Robinson between takes. "I'm pretty sure I had a bald spot and it was bleeding, but we were cracking up about it," said Lucas. "We got yelled at by production." As the magazine pointed out, the sudden change to Lucas' appearance could potentially throw off continuity when it came time to edit the episodes together.  

Though viewers don't really get to see the yacht crew and the production crew interact much, it sure sounds like there's a strong bond there. As "Below Deck Down Under" star Aesha Scott told E! News , the production team was one of the main reasons why she was excited to return to "Below Deck."

Motoryacht Eros : Below Deck season 3

Eros or Stay Salty (ex. Mustang Sally) appears in the famous TV show in the 3rd season shot in the Bahamas . The shipyard Trinity Yachts built this 161-foot superyacht in 2008 for Tim Hortons founder. Geoff Vann Aller took care of the exterior design. 

She can accommodate up to 12 guests and 10 crew members and offers a beautiful tri-deck with a saloon and sky-lounge jacuzzi.

Valor is the most recurring yacht in Below Deck appearing in seasons 4,5 and 7 respectively shot in the US Virgin Islands, in Saint-Martin, and Phuket in Thailand .

Sirrocco is a 154,2 feet superyacht launched in 2006 by the shipyard Heesen. She appears in the second and the fourth seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean shot respectively in Croatia and France.

Named for an island in Thailand, her interior is inspired by Asian influences, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic.

Inside the star yacht of Below Deck Down Under season two

Television network Bravo will begin airing season two of Below Deck Down Under on 17 July, a Below Deck spin-off which follows a yacht crew over an eight-week charter season in Australia. This instalment sees Captain Jason Chambers return at the helm, cruising guests around the warm, tropical waters and colourful cays of the near-uninhabited Whitsunday Islands. Making her debut down under is Northern Sun , a Japanese superyacht with an unexpected history. BOAT takes a look inside…

Delivered in 1976 under the name Hokko Maru (“Northern Light”), Northern Sun has lived a full and fascinating life. At 50.8 metres, she was the largest yacht built by Narasaki Shipbuilding at the time and worked as an ice-class research vessel, analysing marine life and ocean currents in the North Japan Sea. The transformation from ship to superyacht came in 2006 when she underwent a two-year refit, courtesy of her new owners.

Northern Sun has the hardy constitution of an explorer, marking a departure from the first season’s white boat Keri Lee III . 

When her current owners undertook renovations, they were intent to elevate her to superyacht standards while still maintaining her distinctive look. Her old windlasses are still visible on the forward deck, the master cabin has retained its original camber and even the engine room looks exactly as it did when she was a research ship. "Looks" being the operative word, of course – she’s had several system upgrades since the 70s.

Interiors include natural materials such as narra and makore wood (commonly known as cherry mahogany). This dark wood furniture and wall panelling give Northern Sun her warm, traditional feel, while the cabins themselves are dotted with the owners’ collection of travel paraphernalia. It makes for an eclectic living space, with indoor sofa seating accented by authentic Persian rugs and the formal dining room and master suite fixed with guild-frame, 19th century oil paintings. Keep an eye out for one of the owners’ most coveted pieces, a 100-year-old ship’s clock which still rings out the two-hour, maritime work shift also known as "the dog watch".

Northern Sun’s main deck is dedicated entirely to entertainment, from the al fresco dining area to the main saloon with its piano and games table. Other leisure highlights include gym equipment, a dedicated library on the lower deck and an outdoor Jacuzzi, surrounded by sun pads and lounge beds. The owners’ addition of a forward seating area during her refit allows for versatile recreation, whether the mood calls for cocktail parties or quiet, waterside contemplation.

The superyacht naturally has impressive stowing capacity, with space for scuba-diving equipment, a waterski and a two-deck-high inflatable water slide. There are also two Laser sailboats, enabling nimbler exploration along Australia’s shallow bays and coral reefs.

The owners spent ten years cruising through Southeast Asia after Northern Sun was refitted. Using the superyacht as a base for adventures, they've scuba-dived in the Andaman Sea, kayaked in the mangrove swamps of Phang Nga Bay and explored some of Indonesia’s most remote fishing islands. In 2015, they decided to put Northern Sun on the charter market, where she quickly became one of the most popular yachts available in Thailand. Now, she’s made her way across the seas to become the breakout star of Below Deck Down Under .

Captain Jason will be joined by returning chief stew Aesha Scott, working alongside a brand-new crew.

Northern Sun is currently listed with Ocean Independence , with a weekly charter starting from $161,700 and an asking price of $15,000,000.

Announced by Ben Willoughby in a message on his Instagram , both he and fellow Below Deck alum Sunny Marquis have beaten the dreaded boatmance and are still together, happier than ever. This comes after an 11th season of the reality show that saw sparks fly between the pair, although there was never any solid evidence that the relationship would last this long.

In his announcement on Instagram , Ben admitted how relieved the couple were that they could now shout their love to the world. In the caption of the post, Ben said:

"Yes you guessed it 😜 we are still together ! Finally we can let go of the secrecy that has been held for the past 15 months. We want to thank you all for the support throughout season 11 @belowdeckbravo it’s been a rollercoaster to relive the season and the beginning of a relationship. We ended up traveling the globe together last year and Sunny made her way to Australia for Christmas. Anyways, hoping you all enjoyed the season. Sunny and Ben xx"

Despite their clear adoration of one another following the Instagram post, Season 11 of Below Deck proved that the course of true love never did run smooth. After Sunny immediately admitted her feelings for Ben, the overt love was clearly not mutual, with Ben even going as far as to confirm the two were just sleeping together. With Sunny hanging on, Ben even tried to relight an old flame in Camille , with Sunny eventually settling for the label of "fling".

The Below Deck Captains Reveal Their Most and Least Favorite Crew Members

"We were struggling to find people to get into the industry, because people in Iowa had no clue that [there are] jobs on yachts," the captain said during a March 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen . "They had no clue that these jobs existed and that they could get great paying jobs if they came out of college or whatever, they could get a good job, they could go see the world, they could have a hell of a lot of fun."

Below Deck Captains

Seasons 1-10: lee rosbach.

He's the blueprint. Captain Lee Rosbach, a.k.a. the "Stud of the Sea," joined the Below Deck  family during Season 1 of the franchise's original series in 2013. Since then, he's been a mainstay on the show, having  only missed a few charters .

Captain Lee has been in the yachting world for more than three decades and has even written a book  — 2018's Running Against the Tide —  on the subject. Born and raised in (landlocked) Michigan, Lee fell in love with the sea while managing restaurants in Turks & Caicos. After a stint as a mate on a sailboat, he was fully sold and obtained his captain's license at age 35.

“Deciding to become a yacht captain has been the best decision I’ve ever made in my life,” Lee  said during the March 2023 Season 10 finale .

Couch Talk with Captain Lee and Kate Chastain Is Coming to Bravo: All the Details

Lee's latest adventure is hosting the new show,  Couch Talk with Captain Lee and Kate , with former Below Deck  Chief Stew Kate Chastain  on Bravo starting Monday, August 14 at 10/9c. On it, the two will break down the biggest moments of the week on  Below Deck Down Under  Season 2,  The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip  Season 3,  The Real Housewives of Orange County  Season 17,  The Real Housewives of Miami  Season 5,  Project Runway  Season 20,  The Real Housewives of Atlanta  Season 15,  Luann and Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake , and  The Real Housewives of New York City  Season 16.

Outside of work, Captain Lee has been happily married for almost five decades . When asked for his favorite Below Deck memory during his March 2023 WWHL  appearance, he mentioned a moment that had to do with both of his loves: His wife Mary Anne and the water. During Season 5, Mary Anne (with whom he shares five children) made a guest appearance on the show.

"It was when I got to see my bride walking down the dock," Lee said. "To have Mary Anne come out and give me just a little bit of a respite from the grind, is really a pleasure."

Season 9: Sean Meagher

Captain Sean Meagher  and his "hands-on" management style stepped in for Captain Lee for the first two episodes of Season 9 when the "Stud of the Sea" was unexpectedly delayed on land .

Season 10: Sandy Yawn

Below Deck Mediterranean Captains

Season 1: mark howard.

Before there was Captain Sandy, there was Captain Mark Howard . Captain Mark led the very first season of  Below Deck Med , which aired in 2016.

Another Michigan-born yachtie (maybe there's something in that Great Lakes water?), Captain Mark had racked up nearly 30 years of experience on both private and charter boats before he passed away in late 2021 .

“Our thoughts and sincerest sympathies are with the family and friends of the respected Captain Mark Howard," Bravo said in a statement at the time. "As the captain of the first season of Below Deck Med , he will always be remembered for his many contributions and mentorship and will forever remain part of the Bravo family.”

Seasons 2-7: Sandy Yawn

Captain Sandy  joined the Below Deck ranks during the second season of Below Deck Mediterranean and has been a stalwart ever since. In her first six seasons of  BDM , the captain sailed her charters through the waters of Greece, Croatia, Italy, France, Spain, and Malta, while also finding time to step in for Captain Lee  while he dealt with health issues during Season 10 of the original  Below Deck .

Do the Below Deck Captains Know Each Other? Lee and Sandy Actually Go Way Back

“Captain Lee and I go way back, so when I heard about Captain Lee’s situation, I felt terrible,” Captain Sandy told the  Below Deck  cameras during Season 10 Episode 5. “Who wants to leave because you can’t physically do it? My hope is that Captain Lee feels supported. I’m here to take care of his boat and his crew until he comes back.”

Always the professional, Captain Sandy has over three decades of yachting experience under her belt. A Florida native, she knew she wanted her career to revolve around the ocean from an early age. When she learned yachting was a male-dominated field, she simply pushed forward. And she hasn't stopped: In March 2023, she launched her own organization , Captain Sandy's Charities, to support women's maritime and environmental education and employment opportunities.

Off the water and outside of her charity work, Sandy has a longtime girlfriend , gospel singer  Leah Shafer . The pair met in 2018.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Captains

Seasons 1-4: glenn shephard.

Long before Below Deck Sailing Yacht premiered in 2020, Montreal native Captain Glenn  was captaining the elegant Parsifal III . 

No stranger to long-term relationships (seriously, he's been captain of Parsifal III for 13+ years), Captain Glenn has been with his  girlfriend , Danelis “Dani” Jimenez, for about four and a half years . Unsurprisingly, the duo are serious globetrotters.

"I just dropped [Dani] at the airport in Madrid. We’ve been, like I’ve said, traveling around southern Spain for the last week or so, 10 days maybe,” Glenn told  The Daily Dish in May 2023. “She has to shoot back home. We live in Palma de Mallorca, which is almost like a bus ride from Madrid… We’re planning to head up to Andorra, which is in the mountain range between Northern Spain and France, and hopefully get a little bit of snowboarding in before the snow disappears for this winter. Right after that, we’re going back to the boat in Greece, and we’ll probably cruise around for a few weeks, and then I’ll have to go back to work for the summer on  Parsifal  somewhere in the Mediterranean doing charters.”

Below Deck Down Under Captains

Seasons 1-2: jason chambers.

With 23 years of yachting experience behind him, Captain Jason Chambers  is an expert at transporting charter guests around his home country of Australia — no matter what vessel he finds himself on. During the second season of Below Deck Down Under , Captain Jason and his crew found themselves on a boat built in the ’70s .

“I walked onto the boat, said ‘What the hell is going on?’ and then the season ended,” Jason joked in a July 2023 conversation with the Daily Dish .

The Aussie captain  has a daughter , Saskia, who he loves to spend time with when he's not working.

"Being away from her hurts every day," he said in a Season 1 Episode 1 interview. "There's no words for how much I love my daughter. Everything's about her."

Below Deck Adventure  Captains

Season 1: kerry titheradge.

Sailing crews and guests throughout the majestic fjords of Norway, Captain Kerry Titheradge  rounds out the Below Deck captains as the newest addition to the franchise.

The father of two has worked on boats for 30 years and has spent almost two decades yachting, with experience in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Pacific Northwest, and more. According to Captain Kerry, he made the decision to join the Below Deck  family after reaching out to longtime friend Captain Lee  to see if he had any regrets about the show. 

“When it came, the opportunity to do this, I gave Lee a call and asked him would he do it again if he had to redo his time?” Kerry said during BravoCon 2022 . “He said, 'One hundred percent.'”

Below Deck Down Under Season 2 yacht revealed - M/Y Northern Sun

Hit reality TV show Below Deck Down Under returns to Bravo TV on Saturday July 17 at 8/7c for its highly-anticipated second season, this time on board the 51m (167ft) yacht NORTHERN SUN , with the coastal paradise of Cairns in Australia ’s northern Queensland providing the glittering backdrop.

Headed up once more by the handsome Captain Jason Chambers, he is joined by returning chief stewardess, Aesha Scott, along with a brand new crew, including Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph, Bosun Luke Jones and stews Laura Bileskaine and Margot Sisson.

Captain Jason and Chief Stew Aesha reunite for an unforgettable, full-throttle charter season with a lively new crew and wild guests in the stunning waters of Cairns – gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.

Luxury yacht NORTHERN SUN

Promising another round of crew antics and high drama, the bulk of the action takes place on board the 51m (167ft) yacht NORTHERN SUN , a world-class expedition yacht with a wealth of experience traversing the globe. 

Usually found cruising the beautiful South East Asian regions of Malaysia and Thailand , the yacht traveled to Australia where filming for the new season began in Spring 2022.

Primed for adventure and boasting a wealth of luxurious amenities and an eye-catching exterior, charter guests will experience memorable yacht charters in the utmost style and comfort. 

Her accommodation is provided for 12 guests across six cabins, with a flexible configuration for a variety of different arrangements.

Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef

Set against the stunning backdrop of Cairns in Northern Queensland, each charter showcases the majestic underwater world of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef , combined with non-stop adventure as the crew and guests test the captain’s patience to the limits. 

As usual, the crew dynamics will be in the spotlight and viewers can expect fireworks of both the romantic and dramatic variety.  A trailer for the new season shows unruly guests, a “love pentagon”, rift between stews and some serious costly errors as deckhands find their stride on board the yacht, ensuring the show will likely be another success for the Bravo franchise.

Why Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 Is Already More Promising Than Season 8

Below Deck is changing things up on us with the order its spin-offs are airing, but we are glad! After Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8 fell short with viewers, Below Deck Season 11 premiered on its heels. In typical Below Deck fashion, Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 would be next to air. However, this is not the case.

Recently, Bravo threw Below Deck fans for a loop by announcing Below Deck Med Season 9. Thankfully, the trailer teases a fun and upbeat season, unlike Season 8. Below Deck Med Season 9 has the potential to save the spin-off after Season 8, and we are confident it will. Here’s why!

Aesha Scott is Season 9’s Chief Stew

The most exciting reveal from the Season 9 trailer was the fact that Aesha Scott will be Season 9’s Chief Stew. Aesha made her debut on Below Deck Med Season 4, where she started as a 2nd Stew. After two seasons of Below Deck Med, Aesha served as the Chief Stew on Seasons 1 and 2 of Below Deck Down Under .

Aesha has been a fan favorite since day one, in part because her sense of humor is just unmatched. In addition to being hilarious, Aesha is a great team player and a good friend to her fellow crew as well. Aesha also takes her job very seriously, and excels regardless of which position she is in. It will be a lot of fun to see Aesha work as Chief Stew under her old boss, Captain Sandy Yawn . The two make a good team, and have always worked well together.

While Tumi Mhlongo was a good Chief Stew during Season 8, she wasn’t the most personable. Tumi was good at her job, but ultimately got caught up in too much drama. Aesha, on the other hand, is not one for the drama at all. It will be refreshing to have a fun Chief Stew like Aesha, rather than a serious one like Tumi.

Season 9 features an all new cast

No shade to the Below Deck Med Season 8 cast, but we needed a change! Apart from Captain Sandy and Aesha, Season 9 will feature a completely new cast of crew members. It’s always fun to meet a bunch of new cast members at once, and we are ready!

One of the biggest problems with the Season 8 cast was the repetitive drama. 2nd Stew Kyle Viljoen worked to ensure that there was always a problem, which became exhausting. Furthermore, Bosun Luka Brunton had a chaotic boatmance with Stew Jessika Asai , which also got old. There weren’t any cast members really worth rooting for, which made the season hard to watch.

Season 9, on the other hand, already looks more enticing than Season 8. While we don’t officially know the new cast members yet, they look pretty entertaining from what the trailer shows. Hopefully this new cast can work well together, while also sprinkling in a little captivating drama. This is reality television after all!

The trailer teases Captain Sandy proposing to her now wife Leah Shafer , which we can’t wait to see! Sandy first announced her engagement to Leah in September, which is presumably when Season 9 was airing. The trailer teases the crew hiding nearby to take photos, while Sandy proposes to Leah at dinner. This will be a fun change of scenery, and we are excited to see this special moment onscreen.

Despite receiving criticism throughout the seasons, Sandy has shown a lot of growth as a leader. During Season 8, Sandy got along great with her crew, despite all the drama onboard. However, we really didn’t see too much of Sandy during Season 8, as the crew was so chaotic. It will be nice to see the show focus on Sandy for a little bit, as she is the heart and soul of Below Deck Med!

While Below Deck Med Season 8 may not have impressed viewers, we are confident that Season 9 will . Between an iconic Chief Stew, a new crew, and a surprise engagement, Season 9 already looks like a blast!
