BAD DADDY represents a 94’ Horizon Widebody, an exquisite and sophisticated luxury motor yacht. The design of John Lindblom, with the input of a very experienced owner, assured that no detail was overlooked.

The vessel exudes a classical, traditional ambiance with satin-finished Makora African cherry showcased with excellent interior joinery and accents of high gloss Carpathian elm burl. The crown molding throughout the salon and staterooms is mahogany. The molding, door frames and adjacent cabinetry is also framed in mahogany.

Honeycombed Crèma Marfil marble is featured in the galley, heads and salon soles. The honeycomb core reduces weight but still leaves the elegance only marble can provide. The striking appearance of the marble against the lustrous finish of the wood joinery is very appealing.

The vessel is most often entered by the owner and guests from the aft deck. The large extended hardtop with teak deck sole welcomes you to a generous lounge area with a high gloss teak dining table and seating. The oversized sliding glass door opens to the warm and comfortable main salon.

Ceiling heights are a key feature onboard BAD DADDY. The galley and master staterooms have a ceiling height of 7’3” and the salon height is 6’9”. The volume of these areas delivers the feeling of a much larger vessel.

The port side features built-in cabinetry housing a 40” HD TV and electronic entertainment center. The entire aft portion of the vessel is decorated with free-standing furnishings to create a generous salon/living area.

Moving forward on the port side one is greeted with a built-in wet bar and fully equipped station perfect for entertaining. The starboard side forward of the settee features a pillar-framed half bulkhead to separate the dining area. The dining area seats eight. A built-in buffet and chandelier complete the area.

One step up and moving forward on the starboard side is the professionally- equipped galley. A large pantry, stainless steel stove and Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer are wrapped within red Sierra Chica granite countertops and Makora cabinetry. Directly across on the port side is a conveniently located day head.

Staying on the port side, the watertight aircraft-style entry door gives access to the bow area. A duplicate aircraft-style door is on the starboard side as well for quick egress from either side. The center lined helm lower station is well-designed and generously laid out. A built-in dinette on the starboard forward corner accommodates casual dining. Leather seating on the dinette settee continues the warmth and charm of the vessel.

A companionway on the port side of the lower helm circles into a foyer for the private staterooms. The full-beam 18' wide master stateroom is aft of the foyer with his and her heads separated by a glass door tub enclosure. The master stateroom has generous closets and built-in cabinetry storage. The recessed flat screen television and ceiling lights allow the owner to relax in this quiet retreat. The VIP guest stateroom is forward, while the guest stateroom is located on the starboard side. Each stateroom features a private ensuite head. The laundry room is a walk-in with full-sized side-by-side washer and dryer and adequate storage.

Adjacent to the main entry door is a circular staircase to the crew quarters and engine room access. The utility area and lazarette are both accessible from this area as well. The captain's quarters/stateroom features a private ensuite head, while the bunk beds in the crew quarters are so well-appointed they could be utilized as additional guest quarters. The crew quarters have an ensuite head as well. The transom has a center lined watertight door in the cockpit, allowing the engine room and crew to work without disturbing the owner and guests.

Cruise in luxury on the spacious and inviting upper deck. The custom circular spa is on the aft deck just forward of the davit and inflatable tender. Moving forward is another oversized settee on the starboard side, while the port side is equipped with a built-in bar and stools. The forward helm is equipped with Redundant electronics for the captain. A Stidd helm chair makes the journey comfortable. The large fiberglass hardtop creates an abundant covered entertaining area.

Investors Sue Maui Yacht Owner For More Than $2M After Honolua Bay Grounding

The lawsuit accuses Jim Jones of taking the Nakoa on a personal outing that violated the sales agreement.

The investors behind the 120-ton, 94-foot luxury yacht that ran aground in Honolua Bay are suing Noelani Yacht Charters, the company’s owner and the captain on the day of the wreck for more than $2 million. 

In a lawsuit filed Monday, attorneys for Kevin and Kimberly Albert of New Mexico, who provided the financing for the Nakoa, accused Jim Jones and his wife of taking the yacht on a personal trip to Honolua Bay without permission, which they said violated their sales agreement.

The lawsuit lays out the events that occurred in the days and hours before the Nakoa crashed into the reef at Honolua Bay, where it ended up spilling fuel in the waters leading to one of Maui’s most pristine marine sanctuaries . After two weeks stuck on the rocky shoreline, the yacht was hauled off on March 5 and sank in 800 feet on water while being towed toward Oahu.

Jones also used an “unapproved and unqualified captain” to operate the yacht, who prior to the holiday weekend outing, had only captained Jones’ Oahu-based 75-foot yacht, the Noelani, according to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit asks the court to award the Alberts damages including at least $1.45 million for the loss of the Nakoa, a minimum of $500,000 for the work to haul it off the reef, at least $500,000 to pay for environmental destruction, a lien on the Noelani, plus attorneys fees and other damages that arise.

“(Noelani) Yacht Charters’ and Jones’s conduct with respect to the grounding was grossly negligent, willful and demonstrated a wanton disregard for the consequences of their actions,” the lawsuit said.

Jones, the owner of Noelani Yacht Charters, did not respond to an email or phone call requesting comment. Monday’s lawsuit is the latest in a string of cases filed against Jones and his businesses in recent years.

Jones pledged to repay all costs that arose from the wreck and told Civil Beat he planned to continue running charters on his Oahu-based yacht to help him repay the debts.

But Noelani Yacht Charters’ website says the company is no longer in business. Jones’ commercial permit that allowed him to run charters on the Noelani expired in February, and because he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to the state, he can’t renew his permit, according to the Department of Land and Natural Resources. 

Under the agency’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation rules, anyone who wants to do business in Hawaii waters must have a commercial permit. The Nakoa, which was purchased by Jones in December to run charters around Maui, didn’t have one . 

The lawsuit says Jones had agreed to purchase the Nakoa from the Alberts, which owned the vessel through a trust. The pricetag was $1.45 million and scheduled to be paid off over 15 years. The Alberts’ attorney did not respond to a call seeking comment. 

The Dec. 29 purchase agreement laid out all of the requirements that Jones and Noelani Yacht Charters needed to meet to manage and eventually take full ownership of the yacht. Among the conditions mentioned: that the charter company needed to “use its best efforts to manage and operate the vessel in accordance with best yacht management practices;” that the seller wouldn’t be held liable for things like injuries, fines, damages and legal challenges; and that, in the event the yacht was lost or damaged, the buyer would “bear all risk.” 

Meanwhile, under the terms of the yacht’s insurance policy, the Nakoa was supposed to be crewed by an approved licensed captain, first mate and crew member, according to the lawsuit. 

The lawsuit says the captain who was approved and listed on the yacht’s insurance policy was initially on board on Feb. 17 when Jones, his wife and children arrived in West Maui, along with another captain, first mate and crew member for the weekend trip. Upon Jones’ direction, the approved captain left the yacht; he was scheduled to return Feb. 20 to lead a charter to Lanai. 

Instead, the new captain took charge, according to the lawsuit. At that point, that captain had previously operated at the helm of the Noelani but hadn’t yet captained the Nakoa.

Over the course of the weekend, the lawsuit says Jones and his family were shuttled from Kaanapali to Kapalua to Honolua. On Feb. 18 and 19, the yacht was moored overnight at Honolua Bay — on a day-use mooring that’s typically limited to 2.5 hours and where overnight use is explicitly prohibited. 

On the night leading up to the grounding, the lawsuit says that neither the captain nor Jones designated someone to keep watch on deck to ensure the yacht stayed in place —  a standard maritime safety practice. Instead, Jones and his crew relied on a digital anchor alarm, according to the lawsuit.

Around 5:20 a.m. on Feb. 20, Jones heard the alarm go off, the lawsuit said. Meanwhile, the captain realized the yacht had broken free from the mooring and was drifting. At that point, the engines weren’t on.  

“After getting the engines started and the propulsion and steering engaged, (the captain), Jones and the vessel’s crew undertook a series of maneuvers but ultimately ran aground in Honolua Bay,” the lawsuit says. 

In the following weeks, state officials would learn that the yacht caused “ significant damage ” to the marine habitat, wreaking havoc on the corals and live rock covering more than 19,000 square feet, according to DLNR.

The state agency also hired a contractor for at least $460,000 to remove the yacht. It’s unclear if the yacht’s insurance policy will cover the removal, or if Jones or the Alberts will be footing the bill to pay the state back.

The agency is planning to present a final report on the extent of the damage to the Board of Land and Natural Resources, along with recommended fines and penalties, at some point in the future.

If you’re a boater considering that move, here are 10 ready-to-roam yachts looking for new owners and new adventures.

Ocean Alexander 27R – Almost Done – Pompano Beach, Florida

MarineMax has Almost Done , an Ocean Alexander 27R, listed at $7.99 million. The low-hour 2022 build will make a lasting impression with its beach club, whirlpool spa and five-stateroom layout which has an on-deck master stateroom and three VIP staterooms in total.

The “R in this series from Ocean Alexander, stands for Revolution,” Yachting previously reported . “It’s an apt description because the series, which also includes the 88-foot 27R and 97-foot 30R, is different from anything else Ocean Alexander has built in its 40-plus years in business. Starting with the styling, which is decidedly modern and edgy, there’s a deliberate break from the builder’s more traditional look. It’s all the more notable that the appearances of both the traditional cruisers and the Revolution series come from yacht designer Evan K. Marshall.”

2021 Sanlorenzo SL96A – Gatsby – Miami, Florida

The Sanlorenzo SL96A Gatsby is currently listed with Allied Marine for $9.25 million. 

“The ‘A’ in SL96A stands for asymmetric and Sanlorenzo achieves this unique design by, Conserving only the gangway on the starboard side and eliminating the one on the port side, which shifts to the roof of the superstructure,” says Sanlorenzo . “The asymmetrical configuration, seen on SL102A first, frees up about 10 square meters of space for internal use. With respect to a traditional layout, this arrangement offers more space, improving luminosity and flexibility.”

Furniture placement in the salon helps to define the yacht’s social spaces. A six-person L-shaped settee and ottoman are immediately to starboard with only a cabinet separating the settee from the sliding glass doors leading to the cockpit. A formal dining space for eight guests is adjacent to the salon’s settee, a feat only achieved because of the extra space afforded by the asymmetrical design. A flat-screen TV is mounted forward against the bulkhead separating the salon from the galley forward and to starboard, and the on-deck master suite forward and to port. A day head is just forward of the bulkhead and to port.”

2018 Viking 93 Motor Yacht – Obsession – Stuart, Florida

Gilman Yachts has Obsession , a Viking Yachts 93 Motor Yacht, listed and an asking $7.4 million. The 2018 enclosed-flybridge motor yacht has charter potential with its five-stateroom layout, two crew cabins and a sub six-foot draft.

Yachting ‘s initial review of the Viking 93 Motor Yacht reported how the New Jersey boatbuilder’s flagship model was based on its 75 Motor Yacht’s design, but also drew inspiration from a Viking owner’s Westport 112 .

“One Viking owner also has a Westport, and Viking’s designers and top brass spent a good amount of time on board that yacht learning how to nail down the needs of owners in that size range. What Viking developed from that experience is a boat built for socializing, one that lets hands-on owners feel at home while enjoying mega-yacht features.”

2019 Hatteras M90 – Jetstream – Key Largo, Florida

The Hatteras Yachts M90 Panacea called Jetstream is listed with Atlantic Yacht & Ship for $10.3 million. The 2019 build has an options list that totals more than $2 million. The motoryacht has a four-stateroom, five-head layout that sleeps 10.

This yacht can go the distance or go quickly. Captain’s choice. Twin 1,900 hp Caterpillar C-32A diesels provide power on Jetstream , giving it a reported 24.7-knot top speed and a 22-knot cruise speed. The engines have just 500 hours on them. Jetstream also has a Bahamas-friendly 5-foot-7-inch draft.

This Hatteras M90 Panacea has the performance, but it also has luxury cruising comfort. The salon feels thoroughly modern, thanks in part to the white-oak sole and light-tone furnishings. Frameless house-spanning windows and indirect lighting adds a sense of elegance and enhances the salon’s open feeling.

2019 Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge – Lanikai – Seattle, Washington

Alexander Marine has Lanikai , an Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge , listed for sale with an asking price of $9.8 million. The 2019 motoryacht has a five-stateroom layout, a crew quarters and engines with very low hours. Let’s take a closer look.

When Yachting first reported on the 100 Skylounge we noted at the time that “Ocean Alexander already offers a 90-footer with a four-stateroom layout whose guest spaces would qualify as VIP suites on most yachts. With its OA 100 Skylounge, the builder has added an on-deck master, much like the kind aboard superyachts. That’s one reason why Ocean Alexander calls the 100 Skylounge the entry-level yacht in its six-model mega-yacht series, which stretches up to 155 feet length overall.”

2014 Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht – Done Deal – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Atlantic Yacht and Ship Inc. currently has Done Deal , a 2014 Hatteras 80 Motor Yacht , listed for sale with an asking price of $4.1 million. The 80-footer has a four-stateroom, five-head layout with accommodations for eight, and two crew cabins that sleep four.

The four staterooms include a full-beam master stateroom amidships with a centerline king berth and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a centerline queen berth and an en suite head. The portside VIP stateroom also has a queen berth and en suite head. The final guest stateroom is to starboard and has two single berths with an en suite head.

2009 Paragon 94 – Rhapsody – Chesapeake, Virginia

Rhapsody, a 2009 Paragon 94, underwent an extensive refit by Lyman Morse in 2018. The 94-foot motoryacht is currently listed for $2.975 million with Worth Avenue Yachts, which represents a $750,000-plus price reduction.

The refit included servicing all equipment and systems, updating soft goods, adding a dining area, transforming the flybridge into an enclosed skylounge and repainting the upper deck space.

Twin 1,550 hp Caterpillar C-32 diesel engines work with the yacht’s planing hull form (with 13.5-degree transom deadrise) to help propel this 100-ton motoryacht to a 20-knot top hop and a 14-knot cruise speed. The engines have just over 2,000 hours on them.

2007 Hargrave 82 – Roxy Maria – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The 2007 Hargrave 82 Open Bridge motoryacht Roxy Maria could be a solid fit for an experienced owner-operator or for owners traveling with a small crew, according to Hargrave Custom Yachts, who built the motoryacht and is selling it for its current owners. The yacht is listed for $1.995 million.

When it comes to boat handling with or without crew, this Hargrave has upper and lower helm stations, bow and stern thrusters and two cockpit docking stations. There are also full walkaround decks and side-deck access from the lower helm station.

With regards to the interior layout, this yacht’s salon has three lounge chairs positioned around the room with a four-person sofa to port. The sole-to-ceiling, high -gloss cherry wood creates a comfortable, warm and inviting entertainment space. This interior design is from Yacht Interiors by Shelley.

2020 Ocean Alexander 84R – Panacea – Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Ocean Alexander 84R Skylounge Panacea is currently listed with Gilman Yachts for $6.65 million. The 2020 motor yacht has accommodations to sleep eight guests in its four-stateroom, five-head layout.

Yachting has previously reported that “the 84R is built via resin infusion with structural foam, fiberglass and carbon fiber, for strength at sea. Carbon fiber is applied to high-stress areas and used in construction of the sky lounge. Aluminum beams in the bulkheads and ceiling further strengthen the yacht.”

2001 Burger 85 – Checkers – Destin, Florida

Worth Avenue Yachts currently has the 85-foot Burger, Checkers , listed for sale with an asking price of $2.9 million. The 2001 build underwent an interior refit in 2023, including an updated Furuno glass-bridge navigation suite. The yacht has a three-stateroom, four-head layout, and has a main-deck day head.

Checkers can sleep six in its three staterooms, which includes a full-beam owners’ stateroom with an en suite head amidships. The owners’ stateroom features a king berth on centerline, a flat-screen TV at the foot of the bed, his-and-hers vanities, and walk-in closets aft to port and starboard.

Forward, the two guest staterooms as well as the captain’s cabin are accessible from the pilothouse stairway. The forwardmost stateroom has a centerline queen berth and en suite head. The starboard VIP stateroom also has a queen berth and en suite head. The captain’s cabin has upper and lower single berths and an en suite head.

Access to the flybridge is made via a stainless steel ladder with teak treads and high gloss varnished sliding overhead hatch.  Moving aft and three steps down brings one to the stern deck; where there is another spacious exterior teak deck & great access to the offset transom door/swim platform (w/custom stainless scuba ladder). There are custom lockers for snorkel/scuba gear as well as a (6) tank water-filled well for re-filling via the on-board rapid-fill air compressor.   There is a dedicated high capacity “shaved ice” maker to starboard of the primary engine room access door.  An over-sized teak deck hatch provides excellent access to the machinery space below.  Hose bibs for both salt and fresh water washdowns are to starboard, while the 100 amp service cords are deployed to port.

M AIN S ALON AND GALLEY :

A large single high gloss-varnished teak-framed sliding glass door provides access and entry to the main salon from the aft sunroom/deck area.  A large u-shaped settee to port and L-shaped settee to starboard provide comfortable seating for many and excellent viewing out the large main salon windows.  Outstanding natural ventilation can be achieved in the main salon/galley space due to several “drop-down” style windows on either side.  Wood valences house the Venetian-style privacy shades for all windows.  There are two custom cocktail/coffee tables inboard of the settees.  A large flatscreen TV is mounted on the aft salon bulkhead and provides excellent viewing angles from the entire main salon/galley area.

The custom red birch dining table is expandable, and accommodates up to 8 people.  Two sizes of leaves are stowed inside the table.  Like much of the vessel’s interior wood detail, the table edges are inlaid with a band of highly polished stainless steel.  Beautiful.  The custom birch dining chairs were cleverly designed to accept “leg-risers” (that stow under the main salon utility desk to starboard) to become “bar stools” in the galley. 

The galley, just forward of the dining table/area, offers excellent counter space.  The black granite counter is on two levels; a bar top height and a more traditional galley counter height inside the traditional cooking triangle.  Designed to be bright, open, inclusive and family-oriented, the galley space is laid out very well.  With galley stove, sink and refrigeration all within arms reach, the chef will be smiling; even when underway!  A large front-opening refrigerator, drawer-style deep freezer, custom sliding door-sized spice rack, dishwasher, microwave and more…. make this galley more than complete.

MASTER CABIN & GUEST CABIN :

After descending from the dining/galley area via a custom spiral staircase, one finds two palatial cabins (owner’s (aft) and guest accommodations just forward) with King-sized beds; “his & her” heads in Master cabin (single head with separate shower in guest cabin) with black granite countertops; dual access to stall shower in Master cabin via “his & her” heads; cedar-lined walk-in closets; sitting areas and more.  Cabin hull ports bring in natural light and great viewing.  Interior raised-panel bulkheads and custom cabinetry are built from red birch; with many drawer faces and panels from the heart of the tree.  The cabin soles are constructed of white-washed Bamboo wood.  Over-sized flat screen TV’s are bulkhead-mounted for great viewing from all cabin angles.  To describe these accommodations as “large” is an understatement.  There is a large built-in wine storage cooler in the passageway between these two cabins.

HELM/BRIDGE – MAIN DECK :

 Access to the bridge is via a passageway to starboard and forward of the galley.  A “day-head” to port of the passageway with pocket-door, offers a small stainless sink, black granite counter, and commode.

The bridge is impressive, stunning and commanding.  Fully equipped with lots of redundancy, the bridge offers complete control to the Captain.  Extremely well designed, major electronic components include: a fire suppression system; a pair of large Nobeltec flat screens that provide multiple functions including vessel position, radar, AIS and more.  An additional Furuno GPS plotter serves as backup to the back-up.  A fully custom AC/DC breaker panel system was designed and installed in the custom overhead valance.  A pair of joysticks control both bow and stern thrusters along with many radios for communications via VHF, HF and Satellite.  Autopilot, full mechanical/engine monitoring and more. There are cameras mounted in the engine room, aft deck and forward for video monitoring from the bridge.

A very unique and comfortable seating area was designed and built just aft of the helm (includes a custom pull-out leg rest for lounging).  The large custom wood table functions well for those on watch and “snacking” or looking over the chart kit.  A great place for visits from the owner, guests and crew standing by to take watch.  There is an elaborate bank of drawers for charts just to port of the helm.  This whole area can be removed to provide excellent access to the electronics forward of the helm.  The flybridge and upper helm is accessed via an aft facing staircase on the starboard side of the bridge house.

FLYBRIDGE :

A fully equipped 2nd helm station is available on the flybridge.  With maximum visibility and full instrumentation at the Captain’s fingertips, the flybridge helm station is a great way to operate/dock the vessel in settled weather.  There is additional seating to starboard of the flybridge helm seat and it even includes a “pull-out” slider with filler cushion to convert for lounging/sunbathing.

Access to the flybridge is via what many may consider “a wooden work of art.”  The fully custom high gloss varnished teak companionway slider magically disappears into a seahood that is integral to the flybridge.  This elegant wooden arch; its joinery, fit and finish is a fine example of the work so typically seen on yachts built by Lyman-Morse.

An equally impressive custom bi-fold high gloss varnished teak companionway door cleverly nestles to the side when open, and shuts out the weather when teak slider and door are closed.

A large and spacious dining settee and varnished teak table provide seating for 6-8.  A pseudo-galley to port provides the essentials for this upper dining area.  The u-shaped space includes a stainless sink, refrigeration, ice maker, ample counter space and even features a dumbwaiter tunnel between the flybridge and full galley below!

Moving aft one finds additional seating to port; a custom storage locker for tender fuel to starboard along with a hydraulic crane for launching the 16′ Novurania hard-bottom inflatable (w/90HP 4-stroke 2019 Yamaha  OB) mounted in custom deck chocks/hold-down; the Yachts Mast (on centerline) and associated antennas;  two life rafts (mounted outboard on both starboard and port sides); and a second custom high gloss-varnished teak companionway slider with stair access to lower sunroom/aft deck.

CAPTAIN’S OFFICE & CAPT/CREW QUARTERS :

Just to starboard of the main bridge is a second spiral staircase that leads to the Captain’s office/crew quarters.  A great space dedicated to keeping the “ship’s affairs” in order, and for “down-time” for the crew.  And depending on how the boat is operated, this space and two additional cabins could be used for guests or additional family members.

This Captain’s office area is also equipped with (2) additional front-opening refrigeration units; an over-sized box-style freezer, and the vessels washer and dryer.  Moving forward the space is equally divided into two mirror image bunk-style cabins (two single bunks per cabin.)  Each berth has a dedicated flat screen TV and each cabin has a dedicated head with mirrors, Corian countertop/sink and commode, along with a separate stall shower.  A bank of drawers, hanging lockers and additional counter space is inboard of the bunks.

ENGINE ROOM :

If you are a stickler for a clean, and well organized engine room…. this space will make you smile.  The epitome of a professionally maintained mechanical space, ELECTRA’S engine room may in fact be in better shape now than when new!  The space is extremely well lit, with great ventilation including AC.  It is clear that a professional Captain and experienced owner had great input in the engine rooms design and layout. 

Commonly serviced items are easily accessible.  Great effort went into insulating the room to prevent noise from entering the Master Cabin just forward.  There is a dedicated work shop (with watertight door) on centerline, just aft of the main engines and gensets.  This space also houses the two watermakers, refrigeration pumps/systems, and Scuba compressor.  Most of the vessel’s thru-hulls (below the waterline) are congregated together in one space under the work shop lift-up sole and nearly all the ship’s raw water strainers are together as well.  Access to the vessel’s hydraulic steering/rudder bearings is to port and starboard of the raw water strainer area.  A bank of organized tool trays/boxes are convenient and within an arms reach with plenty of bench space as well.   An over-sized stainless steel utility sink/faucet is mounted just aft of the port main engine.

Other major mechanical components in the engine room include hydraulic stabilizers, inverters/chargers, triple bank of Racor fuel filtration for main engine supply and additional fuel filtration for the two Northern Lights Generators.  An 8-port Reverso oil change pump/manifold services all the mechanical oil/fluids.  The mechanical/electrical equipment list goes is extensive.

Sometimes you just have to create a custom yacht to go with your custom Ferrari . And that’s exactly what one owner has done with a brand new 94-footer that has interiors inspired by his Prancing Horse.

The vessel, known as III Amigos , has redefined what a sport fishing yacht can truly be by adding a good dose of unfettered luxury. Patrick Knowles Designs spearheaded the striking vessel and assembled a marine dream team, including Michael Rybovich & Sons , Metrica and the owner’s captain Jody Whitworth, to help it come to life.

While III Amigos is unmistakably a fish fighter, her expansive interiors and lavish design are more akin to a world-class superyacht. Measuring 22 feet across, the vessel features a full beam master stateroom, a port-side VIP cabin and a starboard twin cabin—which all have ensuites, of course—along with ample space for lounging throughout.

“Any preconceived images you conjure in your mind of a sport fishing yacht’s aesthetics and design will indeed be defied when you view III Amigos ,” Patrick Knowles said.

Indeed, III Amigos features a level of personalization that’s uncommon in this type of vessel. The dinette takes cues from one of the owner’s bespoke Ferraris and mirrors the fit and finish of the supercar’s cabin. It even features two, in-wall glove boxes because why not? The vessel is also jam packed with luxurious materials and furnishings, like Azul Bahia stone that was hand selected in Italy and one-of-a-kind bar stools made with genuine Florida alligator hide.

“Using the owner’s own brand benchmark of contrast with his desire for a yacht that felt like ‘one with the water,’ we created an impressive blend of color, depth and texture that truly culminated in a strikingly gorgeous vessel that still remains true to the fish fighter she is meant to be,” adds Knowles.

Details on the vessel’s engine configuration have yet to be released, but III Amigos is set for delivery in 2021, and we can’t wait to see the stunner hit the water.

Michael Rybovich and Sons 94 Review

Whenever I begin a boat review, it’s typically the first time I’ve ever stepped foot on the boat. However, I’ve watched this 94-footer transform from a literal pile of lumber into one of the finest examples of craftsmanship displayed in boatbuilding today. The last time I saw her was this past spring, and my anticipation grew as I pulled into the Michael Rybovich & Sons yard in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. My entire focus was on the much-anticipated III Amigos , wondering how she called the south barn home for almost three years. And then, I stepped on. I felt like a kid on Christmas Day.

I was happy to see Michael at the helm with his son—and naval architect—Dusty by his side. We immediately pulled off the dock, chatting about the boat’s future travel plans. The enclosed bridge was library-quiet. Fascinated, I quickly downloaded a decibel-meter app on my phone: 62 dB, same as a typical business office.

Tower and Bridge

The satin-finished tower structure by Bausch Towers provides a fully equipped platform with everything needed to run the boat from the top. Dual Seatronx 19-inch multifunctional touchscreens and engine-data displays, bow thruster and autopilot controls, and an omnidirectional sonar remote are just a few of the items you’ll find in the generous tower pod. Teaser reels and controls for the hydraulic outriggers are close at hand as well. As you descend the tower, you’ll quickly notice the amount of electronics firepower this yacht possesses: powerful 25 kW X- and 30 kW S-band Furuno radars, a Furuno solid-state dome radar for when the larger radars prove to be too much, as well as a KVH VSAT dome for satellite internet.

Outside on the enclosed-bridge deck, an aft-facing lounge allows you to watch all the action unfold in the cockpit below. The curiously wide armrest accommodates a third pop-up navigation station, with an additional 19-inch Furuno NavNet3 touchscreen display, and a box above houses two ­additional teaser reels.

Only when entering the enclosed bridge do you get a feel for how large it really is. Easily the size of a standard sportboat salon, the L-shaped sofa, pop-up 55-inch television, half-galley and private head drive this point home. The sofa provides custom storage for rod-and-reel setups of every class, and a walk forward to the helm reveals a centered chair with elevated bench seating on either side. The console consists of four 24-inch Seatronx touchscreen displays that are networked via a Crestron NVX video-over-IP platform, providing the best of the best, including the Furuno Omni sonar and MTU joystick control and dynamic positioning. Intentionally missing from the bridge is a staircase to the salon, giving both areas clear separation and privacy; no need to worry about bridge chatter interrupting the game while you relax below.

Design and Interior

The interior was designed by Patrick Knowles Designs of Fort Lauderdale and fabricated by Metrica of Germany. The finishes resemble what I’ve seen firsthand on superyacht leaders such as Feadship and Oceanco. The interior is bright and welcoming yet sophisticated and complex. A white U-shaped sofa with a navy-blue welt is located to starboard, directly across from a flush-mounted 75-inch TV that brings an element of home to the yacht. The navy Florida alligator bar stools and curvilinear bar top bring a real “wow” factor to the interior, and the galley will make any five-star chef feel right at home with a full-size Sub-Zero refrigerator and Miele range and oven.

The cabinetry is a combination of limed oak and wenge veneer with elegant backlighting. Starboard of the galley, the dinette and salon are separated by a horizontal-louvered wenge-wood wall that adds a feeling of privacy to the space. The seating is done in diamond-quilted navy that was inspired by Ferrari to create a perfect contrast with the rest of the interior.

Forward of the galley is a huge audio-visual and electronics room where all the system controls can be found, and a brief glance at the wiring by Poseidon Marine Electronics will make any boating nerd blush—everything neat, perfectly organized and spaced. The uncontested attention to detail is a work of art in itself.

As you proceed down the companionway stairs, you’ll notice that the stateroom doors are a hefty 2¾ inches thick, nearly 1½ inches deeper than a standard household door. The full-beam master is located aft and features a king bed, with the nightstands sporting marble tops. The master head is spacious, with uber-impressive Azul Bahia granite flooring that is luxuriously heated.

A large VIP stateroom sits to port, and an additional double-twin guest stateroom is located in the companion-way to starboard. Both of the guest heads employ Iranian Rosso Imperio marble flooring. Forward are two dual-bunk crew cabins, with private heads, that are appointed with teak finishes and plenty of storage.

The 94′s cockpit is immense, with plenty of room for the unlimited-class Bluewater fighting chair and space for mates and anglers to move around freely. On either side of the chair, in-deck fittings are provided for the external livewells. A custom-­engineered sea chest resides in the lazarette, and controls, among other things, three Eskimo ice chippers. Rybovich affirms that in all manner of sea states and directions, they were unable to make the sea chest air-lock.

The mezzanine steps house a bait freezer, plumbed ice box, a massive livewell/fish-box combination, and enough lead storage to keep you bottom- and swordfishing for months. The day head is cockpit-accessible, with a grand window allowing natural light to flood in and the beautiful white quartz countertop sparkle. The mezzanine seating was created to be comfortable and relaxing, complete with air conditioning coming from both the headrest and overhead vents; a large custom drink box resides in the armrest.

Engine Room and Performance

Slipping into the engine room, you immediately enter a pump room with twin 2,200-gallon-per-day Dometic SeaXchange-Spot Zero watermaker combos. The Seakeeper 30HD is located aft; and under the ladder, forward of the gyro, is custom storage for large electric reels and a mounted toolbox. Forward through a watertight door are two 2,600 hp MTU engines and twin 40 kW Kohler generators.

I was graced with an extended offshore sea trial in 2- to 3-foot seas and a moderate southeast wind. At a comfortable cruising speed of 30 knots, III Amigos turned 1,850 rpm at a 70 percent load and burned 152 gallons per hour. A more vigorous cruising speed at 2,150 rpm and 82 percent load produced 36 knots and burned 206 gph. Wide-open throttle tapped out at 41 knots at 2,450 rpm, burning 266 gph.

As the builder finished up the sea trial, I settled down with the crew, traded a few fish stories, and fired up Captain Ron on the Kaleidescape 4K movie server. You would never know you were traveling 30-plus-knots offshore if you didn’t look out the side windows. And as we continued talking, I considered speaking up to ask if they were looking for a fourth amigo.

$1 million 80-foot luxury yacht sinks off Florida coast, 2 rescued

J ACKSONVILLE, Fla. ( WNCN ) — Two people were rescued just before a $1 million luxury 80-foot sport yacht sank off the coast of Florida Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The incident was reported just after 11:35 a.m. about 3 miles off St. Augustine Beach, a news release from the Coast Guard said.

The operator of the Atlantis, an 80-foot sport yacht, said the vessel hit an object in the water and was sinking.

The Coast Guard sent out a boat crew to assist and coordinated with St. John’s County Fire and Rescue, which soon arrived and plucked both people from the yacht.

The Atlantis yacht appears to be a 1999 or early 2000s model of the Sunseeker Predator 80.

A larger Sunseeker Predator was featured in the 2006 James Bond film “Casino Royale.”

A 2001 Predator that is 5 feet shorter than Atlantis, which sank Saturday, is listed for sale for $975,000.

Sunseeker Predator 80 yacht, built in the United Kingdom, can accommodate up to six guests in four staterooms, with two crew members aboard.

Atlantis has two Caterpillar diesel engines and can reach a top speed of 44 kn, or 50 mph, according to data from Boat International.

A data sheet about Atlantis says the vessel is in the top 5% by speed in the world.

After Saturday’s rescue, a hazard to navigation was broadcast to alert mariners about the yacht, which could cause damage to other vessels, according to the Coast Guard.

The owner of the Atlantis will arrange for a salvage of the vessel, the Coast Guard said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
