SUNSEEKER 100 YACHT

100' yacht

Principal Characteristics & Technical Specifications

The all-new Sunseeker 100 Yacht is the epitome of a luxury yacht. Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X as standard or MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines as an option, the 100 Yacht accommodates up to twelve guests and five crew in complete luxury, reaching speeds of up to 30 knots.

A striking Owner Stateroom forward with a private bow terrace, sunbathing hideaways, a breathtaking single-level exterior deck from flybridge to foredeck, a beautifully proportioned open-plan interior and generous ‘Beach Club’, just a few of her magnificent features.

The revolutionary Sunseeker ‘Beach Club’ provides an exceptional area to relax at water level. The tender garage can accommodate a Williams 460 Sportjet and GTX255 jet ski, with plentiful stowage for SeaBobs, diving equipment and paddleboards. The innovative X-TEND™ system offers several seating arrangements, facing aft in its lowered position or, at the flick of a switch, forward at cockpit level.

The vast flybridge on board the 100 Yacht flows seamlessly into the foredeck with uninterrupted walk-around access on both sides. The foredeck provides a social space with two separate seating arrangements plus an oversized sunpad. The essential raised pilot house, central to this yacht’s innovative design, incorporates a glazed sliding door aft, allowing uninterrupted views forward from the flybridge.

Its unique main deck, penthouse-style saloon and luxurious staterooms offer a new-found design direction and material selection providing elegant interiors to enchant any owner. The layering of textural elements and the mix of furnishings and fabrics feels timeless with a modern twist that exudes simplicity and sophistication. Floor-to-ceiling glazing floods the generous saloon with natural daylight, complemented by sliding doors to starboard, helping to bring the outdoors in. A stunning feature wall forward of the dining room showcases exposed and seemingly floating stair treads leading to the wheelhouse above on the port side and lower deck access to starboard. The large, fully equipped galley forward is concealed behind a feature bulkhead, and offers plentiful space and direct side deck access for crew.

The unique main deck layout includes the Owner's Stateroom forward for even greater flexibility and freedom on board. This full-beam stateroom offers a large lobby entrance, walk-in wardrobe with feature shelving, an office and generous en suite. Bathed in natural light courtesy of expansive panoramic glazing, owners can access a first-in-class bow terrace for ultimate privacy through a cleverly sculptured, fully-glazed sliding door forward.

The yacht can be specified as a four or five cabin boat, ideal for the charter market. In either case, the twin amidship cabins can be fitted with Pullman berths for added flexibility. The crew cabin is also worthy of mention, featuring a Captain’s cabin with en suite, two twins each with en suite, a highly specified crew mess.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht tour: Inside Sunseeker’s new 100ft masterpiece

 • Superyachts
 • Top stories
 • yacht tours

The Sunseeker 100 Yacht is set to usher in what the British yard calls a “new era” in flybridge design. We jumped on board during its Cannes 2022 debut...

Aggressively styled, with an unbroken window line that seems to separate the superstructure from the hull, the new 100 Yacht’s potent three-dimensional aesthetic generates huge visual impact.

But what really sets the new Sunseeker 100 Yacht apart is not so much its style as its thought-provoking reinterpretation of the tri-deck layout.

By creating a full-beam walkaround upper level with easy fore-and-aft access to the foredeck lounge, the new Sunseeker’s flybridge is able to encompass almost the entire boat’s length.

It runs, obstruction-free, all the way from the main deck transom steps to the owner’s forward terrace, providing complete walkaround access from bow to stern.

It looks well equipped in terms of entertaining options too. In addition to the flybridge ’s central dinette, there’s plenty of space for an optional helm station, free-standing loungers, wet bar and Jacuzzi.

Sunseeker 90 ocean review: brave new design is about more than just a beach club.

And the foredeck itself also offers two separate seating arrangements, as well as the option of a laser projector and a 140-inch cinema screen for lazy evenings at anchor. Back down on the main deck, the forward owner’s suite leverages the full scale of the yacht’s beam.

In addition to floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides, it also includes a sliding glass door that leads out onto the owner’s private foredeck terrace. And for everyone else, the lower deck provides lavish ensuite accommodation for up to eight guests.

The crew have their own space in the bow with separate access to the galley and three small ensuite cabins.

Other key features include a raised pilothouse with a glass aft bulkhead that allows guests an uninterrupted view forward from the flybridge, and a ‘penthouse style’ saloon with floor to ceiling windows formal dining for eight, an impressive aft lounging area to port, plus an optional sliding door to starboard.

sunseeker-100-yacht-MBY277.newboat_3.SS100_1

The integration of fly deck and bow lounge is deeply impressive

And when you step out into the big aft cockpit, the recreational flexibility is equally well considered. While the floodable tender garage is large enough for a Williams 460 Sportjet, plus jetski and Seabobs, it can also be converted into a decadent Beach Club with built-in barbecue, rain shower and sunlougers, similar to the recently-launched Sunseeker 90 Ocean .

Available either with MTU 12V 2000 M96X engines or MTU 16V 2000 M96Ls, the Sunseeker 100 Yacht has an estimated top speed of around 29 knots.

The 100 Yacht will sneak in just below the 24m waterline length, ensuring it is classed as an RCD Category A leisure vessel rather than having to meet the more onerous regulations for a superyacht .

Update: The Sunseeker 100 Yacht will be getting its US debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show .

Sunseeker 100 Yacht Review (2021 Edition)

The 100 Yacht is the flagship of Sunseeker's Yacht range and teams massive interior volume with seriously clever deck spaces.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht Review (2021 Edition) image 1

The Sunseeker 100 Yacht is an interesting take on the tri-deck yacht design because it's the first Sunseeker with a top deck that is symmetrical and linked bow to stern to create one almost full-length outdoor living space.

It's bursting with clever design details too, such as the brilliant X-TEND seating system and the bow terrace that can be directly accessed from the master suite, which is forward on the main deck. Below, there are four further double guest ensuites and a generous crew space. Even on a yacht of this size, Sunseeker puts an emphasis on performance so expect 30 knots flat out and a range of over 1,000nm at displacement speed. The question is, in a sector brimming with seriously impressive craft does the 100 Yacht have what it takes to stand out from the crowd? Keep reading to find out.

Design & Build

Sunseeker 100 Yacht profile

As a pure demonstration of the journey that boat design has taken in a relatively short time, look at the difference in the amount of glass in the structure between the 100 Yacht and the next boat down on the Sunseeker Yacht range hierarchy, the 95 Yacht. With the 95, glazing punctuates what is primarily a GRP superstructure but with the 100 the glass-to-GRP ratio is far more in favour of see-through material. It's an impressive feat of design language to produce such a diverse range of boats and maintain clear DNA from top to bottom. It is unmistakably a Sunseeker but of course, the use of glass brings far more than just a recognisable profile, it bathes the main deck in natural light and glazed cut-outs in the bulwarks deliver great views from inside the saloon.

This is the first Sunseeker with an unbroken link between the flybridge and foredeck, which creates an almost full-length living space on the top deck, complete with a brilliant mix of seating, lounging space, cooking facilities and, as an option, a hot tub. There are passages down both sides of the pilothouse, too, offering full walkaround access between the aft end of the top deck and the sunbathing space of the foredeck

Many of this boat's rivals, such as the Ferretti 1000 and Pearl 95, use similar basic layouts but the link between the master suite on the main deck and the private bow terrace is unique to the Sunseeker and it's a brilliant bit of design that gives the master cabin on this yacht a little extra sparkle. Talking of sparkle, the X-TEND seating system, first seen on the 90 Ocean, is also an option on the 100 Yacht and it's used to great effect. As part of this arrangement, there is a tender garage large enough to fit a Williams Sportjet 460 and a jet-ski as well as a range of other water toys such as Seabobs and stand-up paddleboards.

Speed & Range

It's easy to become blasé about the performance of yachts like these, given the quality of what's on the market, but take a step back and look at the numbers and it's quite staggering. There are three MTU engine options: twin 1,900hp, 2,000hp and 2,600hp. With the most popular twin 2,000hp motors this nearly 100ft, 100-tonne monster will achieve a whisker under 30 knots, giving it a fast cruising speed of 25 knots. However, thanks to the 12,800-litre fuel capacity, drop the speed back to 12 knots and it will cover 1,300nm. That's an incredible amount of performance flexibility from nearly 30 knots flat out to well over 1,000nm of range between visits to the fuel dock.

For the extra cost, the largest engines probably aren't worth it given they will only add a couple of knots to the top end and deliver no better cruising speed or greater range at displacement speed than the twin 2,000s.

Interior Accommodation

Sunseeker 100 Yacht salon

You can take it for a given that the salon of a 100ft yacht feels enormous and Sunseeker has used that space on the 100 Yacht to create a pretty evenly split lounging and dining area. This is not a full custom yacht, so it's not like a Horizon where you start with what is effectively a blank sheet of paper but there is a huge variety of wood and colour choices and plenty of scope to tweak the layout to suit particular needs.

There is the option, on the starboard side, to have sliding doors that grant access directly onto the side deck but, even without those, thanks to the aforementioned glazing on this deck there is a great connection to the water with dining table to port aligning perfectly with the floor-to-ceiling windows. Wonder to port and there is access to the ship's galley, which is equipped to a very high standard and has direct access both to the crew quarters, forward, and onto the port side deck via a door. This means the galley can be closed off but the crew can still move around the outside of the boat without having to walk through the salon when guests are using it.

On the other side of the deck, just aft of the entrance to the main deck master suite is a well-positioned day head that guests can use without having to dive below decks to their cabins. The master suite is quite special on the 100 Yacht. It's huge and makes the very most of the window line to deliver elevated views out over the water. With the sliding doors at the peak of the bow, the bathroom is behind the bed and it's a good size with enough space for twin sinks and separate shower and toilet cubicles.

It's those doors at the bow that set this cabin apart, though, not only through the amount of natural light that they draw into the cabin but because they give direct access to what is basically a private terrace for the owners, protected by the bow moulding and hidden away from guests. Make a coffee and head out here in the morning to enjoy the peace and quiet. The only headache (and it's mainly for the crew) is what to do with any furniture in this area because, being above the anchor winch and between the mooring gear, this is also an important working area of the boat.

Guests & Crew

Guests are treated to four almost identical staterooms on the 100 Yacht, though the two amidship doubles are slightly larger than the pair forward. That said, the forward pair have their berths mounted on runners so they can quickly switch between doubles and twins depending on who is using them. For charter, this cabin arrangement would work particularly well but if the preference is guest comfort then there is the option to remove the bulkhead that separates the two aft doubles and create one enormous full-beam VIP suite amidships.

As for the crew, they have a decent mess area with a dinette and galley with two bunk cabins that share a bathroom for the crew and a separate captain's cabin with its own ensuite. Putting the crew forward means they are a long way from the machinery space if they need to get there in a hurry but a couple of MFDs give oversight of the boat's systems and navigation from inside the crew quarters.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht guest cabins

Helm Station

Sunseeker 100 Yacht helm

The pilothouse bridge with its commanding dashboard is - unless you specify the optional upper helm on the top deck - the only position to drive the 100 Yacht from. There is a beautiful leather helm chair with full adjustment and space on either side to lay out charts and paperwork. A bench seat offers somewhere for the crew to amass when the boat is on passage or a fun place for guests to perch and enjoy the action when the yacht is on the move.

From here you peer through a steeply raked three-piece windscreen over three Simrad MFDs with links to charts, radar and a suite of cameras throughout the boat. A separate screen provides oversight and control of the yacht's systems such as lighting, ventilation, tank levels and power generation.

Without the upper helm option, the cameras are a helpful addition, as are the wing stations on both sides of the top deck, which allow the skipper to moor the boat from either side of the flybridge. Without the flybridge helm option, there is space for a cosy L-shaped seat, which tucks into the corner of the pilothouse moulding.

Deck Lifestyle

Sunseeker 100 Yacht cockpit

There is innovation from stern to stem but the most striking piece of design is the X-TEND seating system, first developed for the 90 Ocean. The clamshell transom is part tender garage door, and part flexible seating system. Primarily, it lifts to reveal the tender garage, which is a flooding space that can also be used as a beach club with a built-in bar, overhead shower and a set of sun loungers. Once in the open position, the clamshell opens out and away from the cockpit to create a double-width sunlounger that faces into the aft deck. Open the bi-folding balustrades and guests can freely move on and off this fabulous sun pad, which faces into the seating in the cockpit.

Push a couple more buttons and the clamshell closes, the entire unit drops down to close the tender garage and the clamshell can then open again to create the same-sized seating area over the bathing platform facing out to sea. This creates a lovely place to sit and relax if people are having a swim, enjoying the submerged bathing platform or using the yacht's water toys. X-TEND is a cost option but you'd be mad not to go for it as it's so key to the 100 Yacht's charms.

At the other end of the yacht is the bow terrace area, which via a short run of steps links to a top deck that is unbroken all the way to the aft end of the flybridge. There is the option to have steps up either side of this area to the deck above but you can lose the starboard staircase and replace it with a fridge, which offers some added privacy and makes the space feel a bit more secluded.

Decks To Impress

The link between the forward and aft areas of this deck is what creates such a sociable living space. The side decks are almost identical except for the run of steps on the port side that lead down to the main deck and into the gallery area. The foredeck features a huge sun pad with actuated backrests and a dinette that nudges up the pilothouse to create a great spot to enjoy a drink and snack under the shade of the canopy. There is even the option to add a projector screen here so guests can enjoy a private outdoor cinema.

The aft end of the flybridge centres around a huge 12-person dinette and bar area all protected by a sleek hard top with a canvas sunroof. There is flexibility right aft where the space can be left open for free-standing furniture, fixed seating and a sunbathing space or, for a true superyacht touch, a hot tub. Speaking of superyacht touches, Sunseeker has included a gate in the rails on the port aft end of the top deck specifically for the crew to attach an inflatable slide to. It knows its market, that's for sure.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht flybridge

Value For Money

Cost is all relative when considering a boat of this size but the 100 Yacht is made by a production shipyard and there are cost-effective build processes in place. This isn't a full custom yacht and therefore there isn't the flexibility of some rivals when it comes to internal layout and design. This does streamline the build, however, and those savings are passed on to the customer.

The Sunseeker 100 Yacht is an impressive package. The mix of sprawling deck spaces, spacious cabins and stonking performance make for an incredibly well-balanced yacht that is packed with fresh thinking. No key rivals can compete with the flexibility of the X-TEND seating system, which creates such a unique living space at the aft end of the main deck. Likewise, at the bow, the private terrace with direct access from the master suite is a brilliant addition.

The accommodation layout lends itself brilliantly to charter use but with the galley on the main deck and the sociable top deck that links so effortlessly from bow to stern this is also a yacht that is well attuned for private use with friends and family.

Sunseeker really is mixing it with some of the big boys in this sector but its focus on innovation and design has produced a yacht that truly stands out from the crowd.

Reasons to Buy

 • Deck functionality
 • Five double ensuite cabins
 • Versatile performance
 • Big tender garage

Things to Consider

 • X-Tend seating is a cost option
 • Lacks the customisation of some rivals

The Sunseeker faces competition from some of the biggest and best production yacht manufacturers on the market. Here is a selection.

The Ferretti Yachts 1000 shares almost identical dimensions with the Sunseeker and is capable of 30 knots with the largest of two 16-cylinder MTU engines. It can't match the clever X-Tend seating system but a full-width bench on the bathing platform and infinity-style cockpit bring these two areas together nicely. As with the Sunseeker, the master suite is on the main deck with four further guest cabins on the lower deck and a crew space forward with sleeping space for five. The 1000 also has space for both a tender and a jet-ski inside its tender garage. Being the flagship of the Ferretti range you can pretty much guarantee that the quality of construction and engineering will be top-class.

The Princess Y95 , which is based on the hugely successful X95, is slightly smaller than the Sunseeker and its design is more big flybridge rather than a mini superyacht but it boasts an efficient hull design and a good variety of layout options. It doesn't have the linked fore and aft top decks of the likes of the Sunseeker and Ferretti, with access to the flybridge via the pilothouse and a staircase in the cockpit. The master suite is forward on the main deck leaving a full-beam VIP amidships on the lower deck and four further guest cabins. The aft end is quite flexible with the choice of a jet-ski garage, extended crew quarters or a sunken beach club with a lounge, bar and bathroom. With a pair of MAN 2,000hp engines, the top speed is 25 knots.

It can be hard to stand out among such a talented crop but if you want something that truly does things its own way then the Pearl 95 fits the bill. Designed by Bill Dixon with interiors from renowned home designer Kelly Hoppen, the Pearl 95 is a striking-looking craft with a steeply raked extended windscreen and mirrored glazing on the main deck. Inside its even braver, Hoppen has created an interior brimming with avant-garde detailing that is more penthouse apartment than a scaled-down superyacht. As standard, there are four cabins including a master suite on the main deck but the amidships VIP can be split in two to create another cabin if sleeping space is a priority. There are three engine options, including 2,600hp MTUs, but even with the standard 1,900hp CAT C32s it will crack 30 knots. Pearls tend to be cheaper than their rivals, as well.

The highly anticipated 100 Yacht launched into Poole Harbour, seeing daylight for the very first time. Preparing for her maiden sea trial, the 100 Yacht stands poised at the home of Sunseeker before her delivery into the Mediterranean this summer. Aggressive styling remains true to Sunseeker lineage but with a new, three-dimensional aesthetic.

100' yacht

Andrea Frabetti, Chief Executive Officer at Sunseeker International, commented: “We are incredibly proud to unveil the 100 Yacht here in Poole with the owner in attendance to see, for the first time, this spectacular new model. Our project team has worked incredibly hard to present the first build and prepare the vessel for initial sea trials and testing. The second hull is following in close succession and our teams are now busy building multiple 100 Yacht orders for delivery in 2022 and beyond: it’s been a remarkable success. The order book is a reflection of our brand strength, the in-house creativity and the passion of all involved to deliver a spectacular new model. This is the only yacht offering seamless access between flybridge, foredeck and owners’ private terrace on the sea.”

The 100 Yacht will revolutionise the Sunseeker Yacht range, earmarking the start of a new era in flybridge design and functionality for the British yard. With new entertainment features at the fore, the 100 Yacht offers great versatility with a truly global appeal. The sweeping flybridge, with complete walk-around access from bow to stern, is one of the exceptional entertainment areas that defines the 100 Yacht. The vast space on the flybridge is cleverly zoned to offer seamless entertainment. The foredeck has two separate seating arrangements with cinema screen capability, while the central flybridge has L-shaped seating, a fully equipped wet bar and space aft for free-standing furniture or a spa bath.

The 22-foot beam adds significant interior volume feeling much larger than a 100-footer, matched by interior features typically found in bespoke superyachts. The full-beam master suite situated on the main deck benefits from floor to ceiling windows port and starboard as well as an exceptional glass atrium door forward, leading to an owner’s private bow terrace.

Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X or MTU 16V 2000 M96L, the 100 Yacht reaches speeds of up to 29 knots and has a range of 1,300 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots. Reflecting its enormous strength and design capability, the yacht has been awarded CE Category A/Ocean status.

Oyster 100 Sailing

WHAT WE SAY

The Oyster 100 by Dubois is designed with the specification, features and classification of very much larger yachts - and provides a sophisticated entry into superyacht ownership. By contrast, other 100-foot alternatives are simply longer versions of their 60 – 70 foot counterparts. They are built in the same way, are usually of a light displacement and structure, and can give a ride to match – lively with poor load carrying capabilities and little internal volume. Compare their displacement figures with the Oyster 100, which offers significantly more internal volume, comfort and stability. Comparing the worked materials used in construction reveals a second revealing statistic. Worked materials are loosely defined as structural items that are in some way crafted by specialists such as the hull and deck, interior joinery, engine, generators, indeed, anything that has to be crafted or built rather than just dead weight like the keel. The Oyster 100 by Dubois is a small ship by comparison! The standard accommodation layout offers three staterooms aft and two crew cabins forward. The two family/guest staterooms have two large single beds, which are fitted on slide rails which can be pushed together to form a large double bed. A third fold down bed is also available. A raised saloon offers a panoramic view and leads forward and down to a more intimate lounge and separate dining area. Forward of the main living area is the crew mess, galley and two crew cabins.

For many yacht owners, the solution to finding more space aboard for friends and family is summed up by that immortal line by Chief Brody in Jaws: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

Until now, bigger has typically meant longer. But that’s quickly changing as more and more builders are creating interior volume by going wider and taller. For disrupter builder Wally Yachts and its polarizing new Wallywhy 150—which refers to its internal volume rather than the boat’s length—the quirky design is said to deliver 50 percent more space than more traditional 78-footers.

Other builders like Princess have been in the game since 2021. Its X95 first appeared several years ago, effectively throwing down the gauntlet as a way forward for sub-100-foot yachts to supersize both interior and exterior volumes.

Since then, many other builders of small superyachts have jumped on board, with designs that typically have somewhat bloated profiles, far-forward main suites, and open transoms—features all designed to maximize space but minimize length.

Here are 10 new yachts 100 feet and under that are breaking the mold in an attempt to dominate the nautical space race.

It’s no wonder that disrupter Italian builder Wally—now part of the Ferretti Group—calls its latest head-turner a “spaceship.” Claiming up to 50 percent more space than comparable 78-footers, the 150 (named after interior volume rather than length) has standout features like a main salon with over eight feet of headroom, and a beam of more than 22 feet. The pragmatic design includes a one-level main deck attached to an open rear cockpit that offers easy access to the water. Its most noteworthy feature is the rule-breaking, full-beam master suite tucked into the bow on the main deck. It has wraparound glass—stretching all the way around the bow—for panorama-like views from the main bedroom. Priced from about $6.7 million.

Short for Ultra High Volume, this new Turkish-built pocket superyacht is a sistership to Lazzara’s UHV 100 and 125 models. The newest Lazzara boasts an impressive 2,153 square feet of interior space in its 87-foot length. Arguably, the boat is not pretty in a classic sense. The towering hull sides, blunt, plumb bow, and dark-tinted glass make it look more like a dinner cruiser than a mini-superyacht. But the interior space is astonishing, from the cavernous Sky Lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, to the salon with a separate, chandelier-lit dining area and chef’s galley. With a fuel capacity of 3,000 gals, the twin 1,000 hp Volvo D13s deliver a top speed of 16 knots. The boat also has transatlantic range. Base price starts at about $10.9 million.

Movie nights under the stars should have a whole new appeal aboard UK builder Sunseeker’s brand-new 98-footer. Lie back on the yacht’s extra-wide foredeck sunpad and watch the latest blockbuster on a 140-inch screen with laser projection. Or, if you’re the lucky owner, stargaze from your private terrace tucked away in the bow, just steps from the full-beam main-deck master suite, with atrium-style glass sliding doors. One of the best innovations here is the wide, uninterrupted walkway around the entire top deck, which provides safe, easy access from the flybridge to the forward entertaining space. With its twin 2,600 hp V16 MTU diesels, top speed is an impressive 29 knots. Priced from about $10.5 million.

For its brand-new Grande 26M compact superyacht, Italian builder Azimut has gone extra wide to create massive interior and exterior spaces. Spatial highlights include a full-width flybridge that’s almost 20 feet across and close to 40 feet long, and a foredeck entertaining area that seems more like an outdoor patio. The Alberto Mancini-styled go-fast cruiser is crammed with space-enhancing innovations, such as a teak-decked garage door that, at the touch of a button, hinges upwards to extend the rear cockpit by almost five feet. New ZF pod drives coupled to the yacht’s twin 1,650 hp MAN V12 diesels also save space. It is priced from about $6.2 million.

As we said during our 2021 tour of Britain’s Princess Yachts’ tri-deck X95 “When it comes to the polarizing, head-spinning design, there are no half-measures, no in-betweens. You either love it. Or loathe it.” But what those eye-popping lines hide is perhaps the most spacious 95-foot luxury cruiser in the category. Reckoned to be some 40 percent roomier than cruisers with the same length, the X95 has stretch-out accommodations for up to 10 in five cabins and living spaces that rival most apartments. The flybridge covers almost the entire length of the yacht. The 100 is also fast, with twin 1,990 hp MAN V12s delivering a top speed of 23 knots. Prices start at about $12 million.

This broad-beamed 96-footer is from the Italian builder Extra Yachts, which is part of the Palumbo Superyachts Group. While it’s called the Triplex, there are actually four levels if you include the cozy upper sundeck with its outdoor kitchen, dining area and oversized sunpads. The exterior comes courtesy of Italian designer Francesco Guida, while interiors are by Milan-based Hot Labs. Both teams have made the most of the yacht’s class-leading 25-foot beam. Notable features include a vast full-beam master on the main level and an upper salon dedicated entirely to dining, with a table for 10, an open chef’s galley and an adjoining outdoor bar. Twin Volvo IPS1350s deliver a 16.5-knot top speed. Priced from $12 million.

This Sunreef power catamaran’s beam spans a staggering 44 feet, offering the kind of interior and exterior spaces you only get with superyachts twice the length. Every element of the yacht is XXL-size—from the massive hydraulic swim platform to the full-width flybridge that covers almost 1,000 square feet. Down in the salon is a huge 11-seat U-shaped bar that would delight any mixologist. The five staterooms in the twin hulls have space for 10. A pair of 1,300 hp MAN V8 diesels delivers a six-knot top speed. It is priced from about $15.3 million.

In Italian, the word “navetta” translates to “little ship.” Which is a perfect description for Absolute’s new 75-foot fast cruiser. It’s an evolution of the strong-selling Navetta 73 but with nearly two feet of extra length. The yacht’s expansive interior volumes will remain the same, with features like a forward master stateroom on its own level that has a private entrance steps away from the main salon. The salon features floor-to-ceiling glass, with full views of the water, courtesy of open bulwarks. Twin 1,000 hp Volvo IPS1350 diesels deliver a top speed of 25 knots.
Cross a spacious Miami high-rise penthouse with a Canyon Ranch spa and the result could be this new 96-foot superyacht from Italian builder Arcadia. Boasting a remarkable 4,300 square feet of total living space, there’s room for 12 guests and five crew. And the living spaces even expand, courtesy of fold-down terraces in the main salon and on the rear deck. But the yacht’s focus on wellness and healthy living sets it apart. That expansive, teak-decked foredeck, spanning over 500 square feet, is perfect for yoga sessions or meditation, while the cockpit and beach club offer another 1,000 square feet of social space. For extra peace and quiet at anchor, solar panels can provide up to nine hours of generator-free power.

Think of it as offering pace, with space. Turkish yard Numarine has been building its bold 85-foot 26XP explorer style mini-superyacht since 2018, but later this year, it will launch the U.S.-focused 26XP Fast. Instead of slow-churning 435 hp diesels and nine-knot cruising, it’s bolting-in a pair of mighty 1,800 hp MAN V12s and modifying the hull to deliver a top speed of 31 knots. What hasn’t changed is the XP’s cavernous interior and expensive deck space. Take the top-deck flybridge which, thanks to the yacht’s 21-foot beam and far-forward helm, spans over 700 square feet. That space will include a dining table for eight, a full outdoor kitchen, and more lounges than a Saint-Tropez beach bar. Prices start from $6.95 million.

By way of background, my business interests include controlling stakes in 3 publicly traded companies which operate vessels in the 500 to 5000dwt range. On average, one new vessel a year would be added to the fleet. As a result, I have access to in-house marine architects, engineers and construction supervisors. Consequently, when I decided to build my first large motor yacht, I did not feel I needed the services of a company like Moran Yacht & Ship. In any event, I was persuaded to let them negotiate on my behalf while I simultaneously held discussions with other building options. Moran Yacht & Ship understands yachts, their incredibly complex systems, and what constitutes a practical solution to various owners’ ideas. In short, I would not consider building another yacht without engaging Moran Yacht & Ship to provide the services they are so good in delivering. Former Owner, NORTHERN STAR

Chinese coast guard shadows Filipino activists sailing toward disputed shoal

The disputed shoal is in the South China Sea, where Beijing’s coast guard and suspected militia ships have used powerful water cannons to ward off what they regard as intruders. Activists and volunteers belonging to a nongovernment coalition called Atin Ito planned to float small territorial buoys and distribute food packs and fuel to Filipino fishermen near the shoal.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Chinese coast guard ships shadowed a group of Filipino activists and fishermen sailing on wooden boats toward a disputed shoal in the South China Sea which Beijing has fiercely guarded from what it regards as intruders.

The Philippine coast guard deployed three patrol ships and a light plane to keep watch from a distance on the group of about 100 people who set off from western Zambales province to assert Manila’s sovereignty over Scarborough Shoal and surrounding waters. Dozens of journalists joined the three-day voyage.

The navy also dispatched a ship to help keep an eye on the participants.

The four wooden boats carrying the Filipinos were still far from the shoal when at least two Chinese coast guard ships began shadowing them at nightfall, said Emman Hizon, one of the organizers, adding that the participants remained in high spirits and would not turn back.

Some chanted “Atin Ito” — the name of the group, which means “This is ours” in Tagalog — repeatedly after they spotted the Chinese coast guard ships.

“Atin Ito contingent will continue with its course,” Hizon said.

“Our boats are exercising evasive maneuvers while the Philippine coast guard continues to maintain its close distance to the convoy to thwart any further attempt from Chinese coast guard vessels,” Hizon said

The convoy was expected to reach the area of the shoal Thursday morning, the organizers said, adding they would seek to avoid confrontations but were ready for any contingencies. The group plans to lay down symbolic territorial buoys and provide food packs and fuel to Filipino fishermen in the high seas near the shoal.

“Our mission is peaceful, based on international law and aimed at asserting our sovereign rights,” said Rafaela David, a lead organizer. “We will sail with determination, not provocation, to civilianize the region and safeguard our territorial integrity.”

In December, the group mounted an expedition to another disputed shoal but cut the trip short after being tailed by a Chinese ship.

China effectively seized Scarborough Shoal, a triangle-shaped atoll with a vast fishing lagoon ringed by mostly submerged coral outcrops, by surrounding it with its coast guard ships after a tense 2012 standoff with Philippine government ships.

Angered by China’s action, the Philippine government brought the territorial disputes to international arbitration in 2013 and largely won, with a tribunal in The Hague ruling three years later that China’s expansive claims based on historical grounds in the busy seaway were invalid under the 1982 U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The ruling declared Scarborough Shoal a traditional fishing area for Chinese, Filipino and Vietnamese fishermen. In the past, fishermen have anchored in the shoal to avoid large waves in the high seas in stormy weather.

China refused to participate in the arbitration, rejected the outcome and continues to defy it.

Two weeks ago, Chinese coast guard and suspected militia ships used water cannons on Philippine coast guard and fisheries ships patrolling Scarborough Shoal, damaging both vessels.

The Philippines condemned the Chinese coast guard’s action on the shoal, which lies in the Southeast Asian nation’s internationally recognized exclusive economic zone. The Chinese coast guard said it took a “necessary measure” after the Philippine ships “violated China’s sovereignty.”

Asked about the Atin Ito convoy on Wednesday, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “If the Philippine side abuses China’s goodwill and infringes on China’s territorial sovereignty and jurisdiction, China will safeguard its rights and take countermeasures in accordance with the law, and the responsibilities and consequences incurred will be borne entirely by the Philippine side.”

In addition to the Philippines and China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan have also been involved in the territorial disputes .

Chinese coast guard ships have also ventured into waters close to Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia in the past, sparking tensions and protests, but the Southeast Asian nations with considerable economic ties with China have not been as aggressively critical of Beijing’s increasingly assertive actions.

The Philippines has released videos of its territorial faceoffs with China and invited journalists to witness the hostilities in the high seas in a strategy to gain international support , sparking a war of words with Beijing.

The increasing frequency of the skirmishes between the Philippines and China has led to minor collisions, injured Filipino navy personnel and damaged supply boats in recent months. It has sparked fears the territorial disputes could degenerate into an armed conflict between China and the United States , a longtime treaty ally of the Philippines.

'I ended up in a shark den': Deck hand bitten in fall from boat needed 100-plus stitches

Marlin wakeman fell into a shiver of 20 sharks while working on a fishing charter in the bahamas. how he got out of the water stunned his surgeon..

100' yacht

WEST PALM BEACH — On Marlin Wakeman’s many trips to the Bahamas as a deckhand on charter fishing boats, he would notice dozens of sharks gathered by docks, where people throw buckets of fish at them.

He often would wonder: What would happen if anyone fell in?

On Friday, April 26, he found out the most painful way a person could.

Wakeman's foot slipped as he jumped from the dock to a boat at Flying Fish Marina in Clarence Town and he fell into a shiver of 20 hungry sharks. When he hit the water, a 7-foot Caribbean reef shark sunk its teeth into his left leg and pulled Wakeman's head underwater.

“I ended up in a shark den,” Wakeman, 24, of Stuart said Thursday, May 9, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. “I wasn’t really scared at the moment. I just knew I had to get out as quickly as possible. Thankfully, I’m here to tell the story.”

Wakeman had just managed to pull himself onto the boat’s deck, when a second shark grazed his right shoulder with its teeth.

'The luckiest guy': Shark bite victim recounts his 'shredded' arm, stranger who saved him

Path of shark-bite survival went from tourniquet to wheelbarrow to clinic

The boat’s captain heard Wakeman’s cries for help from inside the boat. When he saw him, he tied a tourniquet on his leg, pushed him to a van in a wheelbarrow and sent him to the nearest clinic. There, the medical staff stopped the bleeding and stitched up the wounds.

“Nothing really hurt at first,” said Wakeman, who was working on a charter for Bucket List, a company based in Stuart. “It was a lot of pressure, but I didn't feel any sharpness. You don't really feel the teeth going into you.”

Wakeman said the pain was the worst on the van ride to the clinic, when the adrenaline wore off. He passed out from the pain.

“I wasn’t freaking out, but I told my captain, ‘Hey man, I don’t really want to die right now,’ ” Wakeman said with a chuckle.

The boat’s owner chartered a plane to fly him to West Palm Beach the next day. His dad, Rufus, met him at the airport and took him to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

When the elder Wakeman saw the text about his son’s shark attack , he said it felt like time stood still. His wife, Melynda, said she went into “shock mode” and “felt like a million little pieces.”

“It’s the worst text you can get,” said Rufus Wakeman, a charter captain himself. “I have several friends who have been bitten, and it’s a shocking revelation when you see some of the wounds these people have had to endure. Now it's our son.”

He is glad that the surgeon who cared for his son, Dr. Robert Borrego, specializes in treating shark attacks. He has treated three so far this year and typically has seven shark bite patients a year, he said.

“Due to a particular chain of events that were set in motion that day, (Marlin) is sitting here right now,” Rufus Wakeman said. “We’re very grateful for all the powers that be that got us to this point.”

'Blessed that it wasn't worse': Florida surfer recounts shark bite that cost him tip of toe

West Palm Beach surgeon 'shocked' that shark attack survivor escaped the water

Borrego said the shark just missed Marlin’s femoral artery, which carries blood from the lower abdomen to the lower limbs. If it had bitten him there, he would have lost more blood and possibly his life.

“It shocks me that he was able to get out of that water,” Borrego said. “The fact that there were 20 sharks in there and he was able to get out and still have a leg is amazing.”

Stopping the bleeding is the first course of action after a shark bite, because bleeding out is the greatest threat to life. After a patient is stabilized, infection becomes the top concern. A lab at St. Mary’s studies the effects that contact with a shark’s mouth can have on the human body. It has found a greater amount of bacteria the closer sharks are to shore.

As soon as Wakeman got to the hospital, Borrego prescribed him a “broad spectrum” of antibiotics. He then performed surgery to clean out the wounds and check for infection.

Borrego expects Wakeman to make a full recovery. He took out his stitches this past week and said the 24-year-old is “healing nicely.” He expects the scars to heal in two weeks, but recommends that Wakeman keep his leg out of the sun for a year.

'Happy to be OK': Shark-bite victim recounts incident near Juno Beach Pier, surgery on arm

Shark bite survivor reminds people not to get 'lazy' near apex predators

Wakeman said he will be more careful working near the water from now on. He said he “got a little lazy” after bringing fishing gear back and forth from the the dock to the boat, which makes regular fishing charter trips from Stuart to the Bahamas.

He jumped 3 feet, rather than cautiously stepping toward the boat. That's when he fell.

Wakeman had narrowly escaped a few close encounters with sharks on other fishing and diving trips. He considers the incident “lucky” because it was him who fell, rather than a child or an elderly person who wouldn't have had the strength to pull themselves onto the boat.

“Keep in mind that (sharks) are apex predators and you don’t want to end up in their mouth,” Wakeman said.

Florida leads the world in shark bites. Awareness is the best way to avoid them.

The best way to stay away from a shark attack in the ocean is to avoid swimming in murky water and being aware of the blacktip shark migration period, which roughly runs from January to April.

Florida leads the world in shark bites, according to a report by the University of Florida’s International Shark Attack File. The report logged 83 shark attacks in Palm Beach County since 1882 and found that 15% of bites in Florida are from blacktip sharks.

Palm Beach County has the third-most shark attacks since 1882 out of all other Florida counties. The greatest concentrations are in Volusia County, home to Daytona Beach, which some call the “shark bite capital of the world.”

BUDAPEST – Police say two people have died and five are missing following a boat collision on the Danube River in Hungary.

Hungarian police received a report late Saturday night that a man had been found with a head injury on the shore of the Danube near the town of Veroce, around 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of the capital, Budapest. The bodies of a man and a woman were later discovered nearby.

Recommended Videos

Hours after police began their search, they discovered a damaged boat in the water, which they towed to shore. They are still searching for five adults — three men and two women — who they believe were on the boat.

Police said they determined that a river cruise boat had been in the area at the time of the accident. They stopped a cruise boat with a damaged hull near the town of Komarom, more than 50 miles (80 kilometers) further upriver.

Hungarian public television station M1 reported that the cruise boat, Heidelberg, is a 109-meter (357-foot) Swiss craft that can accommodate 110 people. No passengers on that boat sustained injuries, M1 said.

The Danube at Veroce is roughly 1,500 feet (460 meters) wide and is in the center of an area called the Danube Bend where the river makes a sweeping, nearly 90-degree turn to the south. The area is a popular recreational and boating destination and is on a route often used by cruise boats between Budapest and the Austrian capital, Vienna, some 140 miles (230 kilometers) upriver.

The deadly accident comes five years after at least 27 people were killed in Budapest when a river cruise boat collided with a smaller tourist vessel , sinking it in seconds.

The tourist boat Hableany, carrying 35 people who were mostly South Korean tourists, was overtaken from behind by the much larger cruise boat, Viking Sigyn, beneath Budapest's Margit Bridge, in May 2019.

The Ukrainian captain of the Viking Sigyn was last year found guilty of negligence leading to a fatal mass catastrophe and sentenced to five years and six months in prison. He has appealed the decision.

Police on Sunday said they have initiated criminal proceedings against an unknown perpetrator on suspicion of endangering water transport and causing the death of several people.

A spokesperson for the Directorate General for Disaster Management told Hungarian news agency MTI that a group of nearly 90 people from several regional disaster management agencies were conducting the search for the missing from the land, water and sky.

Twelve boats and three drones are involved in the search, and two rescue divers are also involved, Imre Doka said.

renderings of isa yachts' new viper 120 model

ISA Yachts unveils new Viper line with first 38m model in production

Italian shipyard ISA Yachts has unveiled the ISA Viper, a new superyacht line comprising three models: the Viper 100, Viper 120 and Viper 140. Production has already begun on the first unit in the 38-metre Viper 120 series, with delivery scheduled for 2026.

Fulvio De Simoni is responsible for exterior and interior design, marking his first collaboration with the Palumbo Superyachts brand. Naval architecture has been completed in house. All models will be built in composite with carbon fibre reinforcements.

A standout feature on board the Viper 120 is its cockpit, which has been laid out into three distinct zones: a lounge space with sofa seating, a coffee table, a large sunpad and side-opening balconies; an al fresco dining space for eight; the beach club, which is equipped with a multifunctional transformer. There is also a combined galley and bar, fitted with a tinted glass partition that tailors it to show cooking and more informal occasions.

Accommodation is across five cabins, all situated on the lower deck. The owner's cabin has a double bathroom and can be configured amidships to take advantage of the 7.9-metre beam or in the bow for a large, walk-in closet.

The main deck features a second combined bar-galley and a saloon furnished with semi-circular sofas, armchairs and a 10-seater table. Interior space is also maximised by a singular, port-side walkway to the bow, while another balcony amidships provides direct ocean views from the sofas. The wheelhouse is also found on the main deck.

Meanwhile, the sundeck includes the second helm station, two large sunpads at the stern and a lounge area with sofas, an L-shaped bar and a 12-seater table. Another communal space is the bow, arranged with a circular pool, sunloungers and sofa seating.

A garage for a five-metre tender has been placed on the starboard side.

Equipped with three MAN or MTU engines, the Viper 120 is expected to reach a maximum speed of 33 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots.

This follows the reveal of the first in build images of ISA Yachts' largest yacht to date, a custom 80-metre project designed by another first-time collaborator – Espen Øino .

China Deploys Dozens of Ships to Block Philippine Protest Flotilla

Filipino civilians set sail in fishing boats to oppose China’s control of a shoal claimed by the Philippines. A formidable Chinese fleet awaited them.

Several small boats moving through the water, with grass and hills in the background.

By Chris Buckley and Camille Elemia

China has sent dozens of coast guard and maritime militia vessels toward a disputed atoll in the South China Sea, a large show of force aimed at blocking a civilian protest flotilla from the Philippines, as tensions between the countries have flared.

The Filipino group organizing the flotilla of about 100 small fishing boats, led by five slightly bigger ones, said it wanted to assert the Philippines’ claims to Scarborough Shoal , an atoll controlled by Beijing that is closer to Manila.

But even before the motley Philippine fleet set out on Wednesday morning, China deployed a formidable contingent of much bigger government-run ships to the area, an intimidating escalation of its frequent assertions of control over vast expanses of sea far from its mainland.

“What we’re seeing this time, I would say, is definitely of another order,” said Ray Powell, the director of SeaLight , a group that monitors the South China Sea. “I think that the China Coast Guard is concerned that they’re going to try to sort of get too close, and so they’re sending an overwhelming force.”

Standoffs and close brushes between Filipino coast guard or civilian vessels and China’s larger coast guard and militia ships — which have used powerful water cannons to drive Philippine vessels away — have become more frequent in the past two years. This time, the size of the Chinese presence and the large number of civilian Filipino boats could make any encounter near the shoal more risky, Mr. Powell said.

“If China decides that they want to send the message that says, ‘We’ve had enough of this,’ then the scary thing you would not want to see is one of these small Filipino fishing boats hit by a water cannon, because that would not end well,” he said.

Rafaela David, one of the leaders of Atin Ito , the Filipino organization coordinating the protest at sea, said the group would not be deterred from trying to reach the atoll, which the Philippines calls Panatag Shoal. The fishing boats were expected to take about 20 hours to get there.

“We should normalize and regularize civilian access,” Ms. David said at a news briefing on Tuesday in Botolan, a town on the Philippines’ main island of Luzon. She said the number of protest boats would show that Filipinos are “not intimidated by someone as big as China.”

The group’s chances of breaking China’s hold on Scarborough Shoal , about 138 miles west of Luzon, seem slim.

By Tuesday, China had positioned five coast guard ships and six maritime militia vessels near the shoal and had another 25 or so maritime militia vessels sitting roughly 60 miles further out, said Mr. Powell, whose group is part of the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation at Stanford University. That estimate, he added, did not include Chinese vessels that either do not carry automatic identification signal devices, which allow them to be tracked, or have turned off their devices in order to “go dark.”

Officials with the Philippine Navy and coast guard said they were deploying ships to escort the civilian Philippine flotilla.

On Wednesday, the Chinese government warned the Filipino protesters against nearing the shoal, which Beijing calls Huangyan Island.

“If the Philippine side abuses China’s good will and violates China’s territorial sovereignty and jurisdiction, China will defends its rights and take countermeasures in accordance with the law,” Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a news conference in Beijing. “The responsibility and consequences will entirely rest with the Philippine side.”

Relations between Manila and Beijing have worsened in the past two years over their maritime disputes.

Since Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was elected president of the Philippines in 2022, he has revived ties with the United States and pushed back against China’s claims to shoals and outcrops near the Philippines. Beijing, in turn, has stepped up coast guard and maritime militia operations to guard its claims.

On Monday, China’s coast guard said that it had started sea rescue training near Scarborough Shoal “to ensure the safety of people onboard vessels that are coming and going.”

Manila has also accused Beijing of taking steps to turn another disputed atoll, Sabina Shoal, which sits about 83 miles northwest of the Philippine island of Palawan, into an artificial island, and it sent a coast guard and a navy ship to the area. On Monday, Beijing rejected the accusation.

The Scarborough Shoal has been under Chinese control since 2012, when Beijing wrested it from Manila in a weekslong standoff. Filipino fishermen had long worked in the resource-rich shoal, but since then their access has been restricted and sporadic.

In 2016, an international tribunal established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea rejected China’s expansive claims in the South China Sea and ruled that the shoal is a traditional fishing ground for the Philippines, China and Vietnam. China has ignored that ruling and continued to entrench its control across much of the sea, including Scarborough Shoal.

Atin Ito, the group organizing the Philippine flotilla, is a coalition of religious activists, civic groups and organizations representing fishermen. The name means “This Is Ours,” and the group has sought to galvanize the public behind peacefully asserting the Philippines’ claims in what Manila calls the West Philippine Sea.

Atin Ito held a similar protest last year , sending boats to the Second Thomas Shoal — a disputed atoll, also known as Ayungin Shoal, that is held by Filipino navy personnel on a grounded ship. But those boats turned back after constant shadowing by Chinese vessels, which have used water cannons against Philippine ships that have tried to deliver supplies to the grounded ship.

This time, the Atin Ito mission appears larger and may be bolder. The group said it planned to drop off food and fuel for any Filipino fishing boats in the area. Along the way, the flotilla also began dropping buoys bearing the message “WPS, Atin Ito” — that is, the West Philippine Sea is ours.

The headstone includes an image of the detective and the DEA's seal.

He is forgotten no more.

An NYPD detective who was killed during a cigar store hold-up a century ago will finally receive the recognition he deserves Monday – when a headstone inscribed with his name and acknowledging his service is placed on the unmarked grave where he was buried.

The honor is thanks to a retired NYPD lieutenant who learned of the travesty while researching a loved one’s family tree.

Detective Bernardino Grottano

Bill Markowski was studying his fiancee’s family history on an online ancestry research site when he discovered that her great-great uncle, Bernardino Grottano, better known as Barney, was buried in famed Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.

“He was like ‘Oh my God! This is your great uncle!'” recalled fiancee Phyllis Kropacek. “He loves to do the ancestry and then he just followed this up.”

Markowski didn’t know anything else about the man, but said he quickly became intrigued when he “found out he was a police officer and he was killed in the line of duty.”

“So I started looking more and more into it,” he said.

He learned that Grottano was off-duty in downtown Brooklyn the night of May 19, 1924, when a robber ran past him with uniformed cop in pursuit after ripping off a shop at Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Street with an accomplice.

Grottano joined the patrolman in the chase and the suspect opened fire on the officers, prompting them to return fire. Grottano was struck in the chest and fell to the ground.

The patrolman was struck in the arm but survived.

“The 26-year-old perpetrator was also felled during the volley and died at the scene,” according to the Detectives Endowment Association website. “He had a long rap sheet that included grand larceny and drugs.”

The couple at the cemetery where her ancestor is buried.

Grottano died a week later at Brooklyn Hospital.

Grottano, who lived in Bensonhurst, left behind a wife and two children.

He was once attached to what was then called the Italian Squad in Manhattan, investigating the Mafia.

“As a little girl, my grandfather, every time I went to his house, he constantly talked about Bernardino and he explained exactly what happened,” said Kropacek, who has a 9-year-old grandson. “He had two photos of him as a police officer in the house, one in the living room and one in the bedroom.”

The plot where Grottano was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Grottano was buried in Lot No. 26518 Section 143 in Green-Wood Cemetery, a private lot with six graves containing the remains of about 30 people.

The family who owned the lot has a headstone there to commemorate the death of their son, a Navy pilot who went missing, but he isn’t buried there.

Grottano had no marker.

Grottano’s widow, Mary, was juggling hospital bills and had two children to raise alone so couldn’t afford a headstone, according to newspaper stories from the time.

Markowski reached out to Detectives Endowment Association and the union offered to help pay for a headstone.

“Detective Grottano was a hero and won’t be forgotten even after 100 years,” DEA President-elect Scott Munro said.

Current Detective Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo agreed.

“His life mattered and his heroic work that fateful night he was shot and killed in 1924 mattered,” he said. “Whether it is one year or 100 years later, the DEA will never forget a fallen union member and their family.”

Markowski (with his fiancee and DEA President-elect Scott Munro) didn't know anything about his late uncle until he dug into some research.

During his research, Markowski discovered another Grottano relative in the department.

NYPD Police Officer Dylan Grottano, 24, heard growing up that one of his ancestors died in the line of duty.

“That’s part of the reason I joined the NYPD,” Grottano, who works in Brooklyn’s 66th Precinct, told The Post. “It makes it more like a legacy and a family tradition.”

Grottano, who is the fallen officer’s great-great nephew, said he’s thankful his long-lost relative is finally being recognized.

“What he did was honorable, pursuing the perp when he wasn’t on duty,” Grottano said. “It’s well overdue.”
