We have been to Yachtsman steakhouse 2 times, and loved it....

Would Shula's steakhouse be as good or better?

We prefer Filet Mignon if that matters.....

' class=

Yachtsman is serving grain fed vs Angus at Shula's.

For us is Shula's hands down.

Speaking of fillet mignon, Shula's is 12 oz:-)

Shula's.....

Or you could venture to Capital Grille (better than Shula's IMO)...

Le Cellier seems to get better reviews. Also, if you are on the Dining Plan, Shula's is not.

I am not adverse to spending for a good meal. Within reason. For that kind of dough, you can get a great filet along with the best view at WDW at the California Grill. Cost about the same, but it delivers more than great food and service. The other places while the food is fine the atmosphere is blase' at best, especially Le Cellier.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is Disney’s Best Kept Dining Secret, And Here’s Why (FULL REVIEW)

One of the best-kept dining secrets at Walt Disney World is Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

In fact, this is one of my personal favorite places to dine when I want a nice dinner at Disney.

The beautiful steakhouse is located down a quiet corridor near the pool at the hotel and is worth trying to snag a reservation for.

If you’re thinking about dining at one of the best restaurants at Walt Disney World keep reading to learn everything you need to know, how to snag the best tables, and of course my suggestions about what to order.

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY  DISCLOSURE  FOR MORE INFO.  Which means if you click on certain links, I may receive a small commission at no additional charge to you.

What is Yachtsman Steakhouse at Walt Disney World?

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a signature dining restaurant located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The restaurant is only open for dinner and is known for its incredible steaks , sides, and desserts.

And believe me, you DON’T want to skip this Disney dining spot on your vacation!

What is the Vibe like inside Yachtsman Steakhouse?

Since the restaurant is only open for dinner the vibe is very adult. This is a great date night spot for couples , or a treat yourself type mean for solo travelers.

You’ll feel as if you’re whisked away on a nautical escapade through the great North East of America.

The interior is quite cozy and far away from what you’d expect at a Walt Disney World restaurant.

ORDER NOW to secure your Walt Disney World theme park ticket!  GET MY TICKETS.

How Do I get a reservation at Yachtsman Steakhouse?

The easiest way to get a reservation for Yachtsman Steakhouse is through the My Disney Experience app.

You can also make reservations on the Walt Disney World website or by calling the reservation center at Walt Disney World.

A word of warning though, the latter of the two options is not the most efficient and phone calls to Disney have been taking upwards of two hours just to talk to someone.

If you do see a reservation for the restaurant you should go ahead and book it even if it’s not at your intended dining time, because it’s always easier to modify an existing reservation versus make a new one.

If you decide you don’t want to dine at Yachtsman Steakhouse after you’ve reserved a table, you can cancel without penalty up to 24 hours before your reservation.

What if I Can’t get a reservation for Yachtsman Steakhouse?

There are a few options if you can’t get a reservation for Yachtsman Steakhouse before your trip to Walt Disney World.

The first is to get to the restaurant right when it opens at 5:00 p.m. and see if you can be seated.

Another option is to eat in the nearby lounge, Crews Cup , which is currently serving the exact same menu as Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Crews Cup Lounge

The Crews Cup Lounge is located right next door to Yachtsman Steakhouse. Its vibe is very relaxed with tables, booths, and bar seating.

This lounge used to have its own unique menu , but post-pandemic the original menu has not returned and the lounge is serving the Yachtsman Steakhouse menu.

If you are able to snag a table inside the Crews Cup Lounge, try to get the table near the window looking into the dry-aging room at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

Through the window, you can see the steaks being expertly cut by the restaurant’s butcher for service as guests order.

What’s on the Menu at Yachtsman Steakhouse?

Yachtsman Steakhouse only serves dinner and everything on the menu is a la carte, meaning every item you order is a certain price.

Meals start out with a bread basket filled with savory pull-apart onion rolls and cherry multigrain sourdough rolls.

Bread Service

The bread is served with the restaurant’s signature roasted garlic and salted butter.

Yes, that means you can literally smear pieces of roasted garlic and slather butter all over these delightful breads.

When it comes to starters, I really enjoy the French Onion Soup , which is perfectly rich with plenty of onions, sourdough croutons, and topped with melted gruyère cheese. You definitely have to try the Beef Carpaccio as well.

Also the famous Caesar Salad is perfect here!

Entrees and Dessert at the Yachtsman Steakhouse

Entrees obviously mean having a steak , and no matter which one you choose it comes with a sauce or butter, and your choice of side. I always order the 14-ounce roasted prime rib with horseradish cream.

Each entree comes with your choice of accompaniment, with either mashed potatoes, potato-leek gratin, or house-made French fries. I typically choose the gratin or the fries.

When dinner is done, do not leave the restaurant without trying one of the delicious desserts.

The signature dessert at the restaurant is the Yachtsman’s Chocolate Cake, which is made with dark chocolate mousse, chocolate cake, mixed berry curd, peanut butter crunch, and mousse, and serves two.

This is one thing I love to get even if I’m dining alone so I can take the leftovers back to my Disney hotel room and munch on them the next night too.

What to Know Before You Go to This Disney World Restaurant

You likely have a few more questions about the Yachtsman Steakhouse , so I want to be sure to answer those as well.

Does Yachtsman Steakhouse take any discounts?

Yes, you’ll be happy to know that Annual Passholders can get 10 percent off of their bill here.

Does Yachtsman Steakhouse have a dress code?

Yes, it’s requested that men wear khakis, slacks, or dress shirts with a collared shirt, and women should wear capri pants, skirts, dresses, or dress shorts.

Jeans can be worn if they are in good condition for men and women.

My Final Thoughts and Review of Yachtsman Steakhouse

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a lovely option for dining at Walt Disney World, whether you’re traveling alone or going out with friends, or on a date night.

Here are a few tips to ensure your experience at Yachtsman Steakhouse is the best that it can be.

  • Security at the front of the Yacht Club can be very strict about who they let into the parking lot at the hotel.
  • If you don’t have a confirmed dining reservation at the Yachtsman Steakhouse , your better option for dining here will be to take a ride share or take the Disney Skyliner . This is best if you’re staying at one of the resorts that the transportation service goes to and from.
  • I f you’re at EPCOT and want a break from the park and think Yachtsman Steakhouse sounds like a nice place, you’ll want to walk to the back of the park to the International Gateway to get to the Yacht Club and to the restaurant.

Yachtsman Steakhouse Full Review

By Author Ziggy Oskwarek

Posted on Last updated: July 24, 2019

Yachtsman Steakhouse offers a variety of amazing food including some great seafood dishes, but they really specialize in…you guessed it… Red Meat , big juicy slabs of it!  In fact many put it in the conversation for best steak on property .  Being a Signature Restaurant means you won’t find a cheap meal here, but I’ve always found the quality to equal the price.  Also a certain “business casual” dress code is required so I wouldn’t come in a tank top and flip-flops. 😉

Yachtsman’s often gets a bit overlooked because of having to travel to the Yacht Club to eat there and is also viewed as being a bit “stuffy.”  But is that the case?  How does it compare with other Steak heavyweights such as Le Cellier, Shula’s and Jiko?

It’s been a few years so I wanted to do a Yachtsman Steakhouse Full Review.  I’m hoping that the good experiences we’ve had there in the past continue over this time….let’s find out!

Atmosphere:

To get to Yachtsman you’ll need to find your way to the Yacht Club Resort and make your way out to the back by the pool.  You can either take transportation to Epcot, Hollywood Studios or one of the other Epcot Resorts like the Boardwalk Resort, Beach Club or Swan and Dolphin.  To make it easy I would recommend doing either Epcot or Hollywood Studios the same day and then just either walk over to the Yacht Club Resort or take a Boat from the park.

If your coming from along the waterside of the resort then eventually you will run into the Back Entrance of the Yacht Club here:

The first thing you see when you walk in is the Meat Dry Aging Room where the butchers cut and prepare the steaks:

All the meat at the Yachtsman Steakhouse is cut in-house , you you know you’re getting a fresh quality steak, not something that’s been prepackaged.

Here’s the butcher going to work:

Look at that concentration, even with the camera in his face he didn’t look up once! 😉  Here’s a shot of the meat once he’s done cutting it:

Those are some good-looking steaks!!

If you look to the left into the Bar , you’ll start to get more of a feel for the decor.  Pine wood beams line the high ceiling, along with beautiful chandeliers:

A cool feature that’s a part of many upscale Disney restaurants is the Open-Kitchen:

Turn right and you’ll find the entrance to the Main Dining Hall:

Some people complain about the decor, they even find it stuffy or snobbish.  Personally I love the natural wood and soft tones you find throughout.  It’s supposed to be reminiscent of a sea-faring New England town, and that’s exactly what it delivers.  You’re not going to be blown away by the decor, like in a place like Moritmoto’s, but that’s ok because that’s not the focal point here, it’s the food.

The Main Dining Room is a large and open space.  Again more rich colors from the wood:

The lighting in here is excellent, especially when the sun is still out due to the large windows overlooking the Pool at Stormalong Bay.  That’s refreshing as at some steakhouses you practically have to bring a flashlight with you in order to see:

This room is gorgeous and has a great view of outside:

One of the tables in the main dining room:

This is the back dining room and probably the most intimate room at Yachtsman.  If you are looking for more quiet and privacy ask for here:

Or you can ask for one of the booths which are lovely:

Notice the gorgeous, clean light fixtures on the beams:

More typical sea-faring gear lines the walls like this Ship’s Wheel:

Some lovely paintings line the wall….of yachts of course:

Ok, we’re done looking around and we’re ready for the food!

As I already mentioned we came here for Steak, and lots of it, as that’s obviously the specialty of the house.  All the beef is high-quality and grain-fed which is cut and aged in-house and prepared on an oak-fired grill in the open kitchen.  That results in some of the tastiest steak anywhere in Walt Disney World.  If your wallet is feeling full and you want a dining experience you’ll never forget, then go for the 32 oz Porterhouse for Two or the 100% Japanese Wagyu Beef Strip Loin , they cost $119 and $125 respectively, but they will change your life!

Besides steak Yachtsman offers some other delicious options including F resh Seafood like Lobster, Salmon and Shrimp.   Expect to find typical Steakhouse appetizers and sides like Soups and Salads, Mushrooms, Creamed Spinach and Truffle Mac and Cheese.

Like many Disney restaurants, the menu tends to have some staples you can find year-round and then some options that are seasonal, so if you don’t find exactly the same things we had during our visit you can probably find something similar or even better when you go!

Look at these beauties…freshly cut and dry-aged.  It’s going to be so hard to choose….

That 21 Day Dry-aged Kansas City Strip looks amazing:

To start off our meal the right way we ordered a bottle of Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 , ok really 2 bottles but who’s counting?  The wine itself was excellent, balanced with a great structure and perfect for…steak!

They first brought us out our complimentary Bread Basket , this thing was amazing!

The first and yummiest bread was the Onion Brioche-style rolls that were out of this world!  They were pull-apart and had a light, airy texture inside that was incredible!  Look at that inside which I had slathered with butter:

Besides that there were also more traditional Sourdough Rolls that were also delicious:

The Butter Plate here was something special because not only did it have fresh butter with Coarse Sea Salt on top, but each plate also had a humongous Roasted Garlic Clove as well!  It was soooo good and my wife was soooo mad at me for eating it! 😉

Next we had a Caesar Salad ($12) with Romaine Lettuce, Parmigiano Reggiano, Coppa Secca and Focaccia Crouton.  Really is there any other type of salad to be had??

I’m a self-proclaimed expert on Caesar Salads and have eaten my share, but this thing was no joke!  It was a very big portion, even enough to share if you’re into that sort of thing.  The lettuce was really fresh and crisp and the Parmigiano was sliced super thin so you could really taste the sharpness of the flavors.  The dressing is what usually makes the Caesar salad and this one was awesome!!  It’s made in house and wasn’t goopy or sweet.

Next was the French Onion Soup ($12) which had a Sourdough Crouton and was covered in Gruyere Cheese:

This is perfection right here…

Stringy cheese makes me  :))))))))

Since it was nearly impossible to stand within 10 feet of us now after 2 courses a piece with either garlic or onion in them we decided to change it up. We went with the Lobster Bisque ($13) which is made with fresh Maine Lobster, Creme Fraiche, fine herbs and lemon:

We also tried the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail ($19) which had a bit of Old Bay sprinkled on and came with lemon and a homemade cocktail sauce:

Get ready to get your carnivore on, because we’ve made our choices of Entrees and they are sent off to the kitchen to be cooked over that Oak-fired Grill:

First up was the 12oz New York Strip Steak ($49) with a Peppercorn Brandy Sauce and Potato Gratin:

You can see how nice that inside is:

Next was the 10oz Black Angus Filet Mignon ($54) with Mashed Potatoes and a Cabernet Wine Sauce:

Lastly was they one I was really anticipating, the 16oz Prime Rib Eye Steak ($54) covered in Blue Cheese Butter and served with a Brioche and Bone Marrow :

This thing is what dreams are made of!  The very first bite my wife said it’s the best steak she’s ever had:

Being rib-eye this thing was bursting with flavor, then covered in blue cheese butter it made everything so rich and juicy and brought it to even another level of amazingness.  It was a giant piece of meat that we ended up splitting between the two of us:

It was just the right tenderness and melted right in your mouth, especially in the middle.  Just overall awesome and one of the best steaks I’ve ever had!

It was accompanied with Bone Marrow and a Brioche .  Now maybe the idea of sucking marrow from a cow’s bone doesn’t exactly get your appetite going, but once you try it, it will!  The Italian name is Osso Buco and it’s a traditional dish from Milan and my wife goes absolutely crazy for it.  Being the expert she said it compared well to others she’s had before and was very succulent inside.

Lastly we got an order of Truffle Macaroni and Cheese ($12) , because obviously till that point we were really having a light meal!  It was made from Orecchiette Pasta (which means “little ears”), Reypenaer cheese and of course truffles:

There were also a bit of crisped stringy onions on top which added a nice texture.  The pasta was creamy and cheesy but you really have to like truffles to like this mac and cheese, the flavor is very strong.  My brother-in-law was crazy about it, he thought it was really unreal.  I personally thought the taste was a bit too strong, so it depends on tastes.

Of course even though at this point I was so stuffed that I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant, I wouldn’t leave you without at least a taste of Dessert.  I was the only one brave enough to confront it!  I got the Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake ($10) with Lemon Curd and Blueberry Crumble:

Lastly, one thing I haven’t touched on was the service.  The service here was some of the best I’ve ever had at any restaurant ANYWHERE .  We had 2 waiters assigned to our table all night as one was in training and the other was observing but helping him.  At first I thought we were in trouble because of having a waiter-in-training, but he blew us away!  He knew everything, literally everything about the menu and every recommendation he made to us turned out to be true.  I wish I remembered his name because I would highly recommend him to you.  This is what signature dining service should be like!

Overall we had a wonderful experience at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, it was even better than the last time we came.  The atmosphere won’t blow you away, but it’s warm, clean, it isn’t loud and is a nice place if you are looking for a quiet romantic meal.  The food was of excellent quality, the appetizers like Caesar Salad, French Onion Soup and the Lobster Bisque were all outstanding .  The Steaks themselves were unbelievable and do live up to the reputation as being one of the best 2 or 3 steakhouses on property.  Where exactly?  I’ll have to think about it and make a list soon, but Yachtsman is right up there.

I found the prices to be expensive, but in-line with other Disney Signature Restaurants.  If you are a carnivore like me then you will appreciate it and Yachtsman has to be on your list of must-try restaurants in Walt Disney World.  It’s a must do for sure if you are staying at one of the Epcot Resorts as it’s within walking distance from them, and it makes a great date-night location without the kids or for a special occasion.  Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Yachtsman Steakhouse is a Dinner only restaurant and is open from roughly 5:00pm – 9:30pm Daily .  The Disney Dining Plan is also accepted, it is a 2 Disney Dining Credit Signature Restaurant.   Reservations can be made via the Disney World website or by calling (407) WDW-DINE .

Ziggy Knows Disney close

My name is Ziggy and I love Disney, everything Disney! I grew up on Disney and it has and continues to be a huge part of my life. I started young when my parents took me to Disney World when I was 18 months old. Little did they know that would be the first of an uncountable number of trips we would take. I have so many amazing memories going to Disney with my family and friends and it has been interwoven into my DNA.

Thursday 10th of October 2019

I just had that same Caesar's Salad and a prime rib end-cut that was bigger than my head just two weeks ago. I've been going there since opening in 1990 and I couldn't have written a more detailed and accurate assessment of the Yachtsmen than you did. Love that place.

Yachtsman Steakhouse vs. Le Cellier vs. Shula's Steakhouse

Brad's picture

This thread is a member of our Comparison Series. Visit the main thread to see more like it.

This is a tough one in my book. Le Cellier is a favorite, of course (mostly for their burger with that amazing cheddar cheese), but I just think Yachtsman has better steak (and usually great service). I've never been to Shula's, so I'd love to hear any insights there.

Hi, everyone!

I've never been to Yachtsman's Steakhouse but have eaten in the other two. I don't think you need to guess which is my favorite, but I also enjoyed my meal in Shula's on December 4, 2005.

I stayed in the Wilderness Lodge on that trip, and had a 6:30 pm reservation at the former Baltimore Colt and Miami Dolphin head coach's namesake restaurant, which I got through Disney Dining. I had resolved to tackle the 48-ounce porterhouse on that Sunday.

I ate breakfast that day at Roaring Forks but except for an occasional bottle of water, I ate nothing else. After a leisurely day in Magic Kingdom I went back to Room 1132 to rest. I left at 4:30 pm but in hindsight should have left at 4:00 pm as it was an MVMCP night. I took a boat to MK and then waited a long time at the bus depot for a Swan/Dolphin-bound bus. It finally came, and I got on.

I was fifteen minutes late for the reservation but the woman at the podium said it was OK. I was seated at 6:50 near the back of the restaurant. Shula's, named after legendary coach Don Shula, is a tribute to the 1972-73 Miami Dolphins who posted the only perfect (17-0) season in NFL history. The significance was not lost on me that the Orlando member of the chain is located in a building known as the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, nor that the last four digits of my reservation number were 7372. These were good omens.

I was dressed in a baby-blue dress shirt, navy slacks, and sneakers, and thought I was slumming it. Dark wood paneling, subdued lighting and dark drapery gave this place the air of a "gentleman's club" without the strippers. In a tradition that's a bit over the top, a waiter brought out a football on a kicking tee, the football having printed on it the meat entrees without the prices. The waiter also described specials of the day and provided a more conventional menu with prices. This is obviously a place where the prevailing attitude seems to be, "If you need to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it."

I ordered the lobster bisque soup, the twice-baked potato, the 48-oz porterhouse and a bottle of Darjeeling tea to wash it all down, all a la carte. For any who don't know, a porterhouse, generally the largest and most expensive steak on the menu, consists of a filet mignon and a ribeye on a T-bone.

I ate the lobster bisque, which was very good; and sipped at my tea while awaiting my steak. While not as big as the Big Texan, a 72-oz steak served in a restaurant in Amarillo, TX and featured in an episode of Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food", Shula's famous signature item was very thick and came on a large plate bearing the words, "Shula's Steakhouse. Still Undefeated".

It was an excellent steak, very juicy, tender and delicious. I consumed it slowly and after 35 minutes was gnawing at the bone. I had room for only two bites of the potato. When the waiter came by, I asked him, "Is this considered finished?" He replied, "Yes. Congratulations". He then presented me with the check. The steak itself was $75.00 ($1.56 an ounce). The other items brought the total food bill, with tax, to $102.09. I added a 15% tip of $15.32 to charge the most expensive dinner (for one person) that I've ever had. It was worth every penny.

After being given a photo signed by Don Shula of him being carried on the shoulders of his players after registering his 300th win, which came at the Vet in Philly against the Eagles; and surprised that I could stand up after consuming such a large steak, I followed the waiter to a back room where a plaque with my name (James Townsend) is hung.

I then left the restaurant under my own power, took a Friendship Boat to Epcot, walked through Epcot to the bus depot, and caught a bus to Wilderness Lodge, all the while thinking, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing!"

One very obvious difference between Yachtsman and Le Cellier is that it's REALLY hard to get an ADR at Le Cellier, while Yachtsman is one of the easier ones.

I'd also say Yachtsman costs a bit more than Le Cellier. Neither one is cheap. Le Cellier is also only one dinner on the meal plan, while Yachtsman is two, if I'm not mistaken.

I think that's why Le Cellier is always so busy. They should really make it "two meals" in order to make it possible to get a table there (and to make more money.) Of course they're Canadians, so they probably are too nice to do it.

As long as it's a good steak, I'm there! But I do like that both Yachtsman and Le Cellier now have mushroom risotto -- mmmmm!

Most likely, you had arrived just before a big dinner rush.

I'd like to hear how you like it if you're ever able to try the restaurant!

mrhub, we will still be there till the 31st of Jan. so when you get there wear those big white Mickey hands so that when we see you we can say HI !! Sounds good VL! Maybe we could meet up and throw back a cold one, although mine would probably be a Manhattan! At least get a photo together for the boards!

Normally it takes exactly 24 hours?

Normally it takes exactly 24 hours? No Admin, its only about a 16 hour drive from here, We usually leave on a Saturday morning , drive till about 8pm, get a hotel and head out first thing Sunday morning and get into WDW anywhere from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. This time we are leaving a day early so we can have a pretty full day in the parks on Sunday. Hoping to get in to WDW by 10am. If the rooms are not ready we'll just leave the bags in the trunk and head in.

dsoup wrote: mrhub wrote: Me! 17 days 15 minutes till we leave and 18 days and 15 hrs (give or take ) till we get there!

Ah, do you try to arrive around that time so the rooms will be ready?

No thats just time we usually come rolling in on Sunday. If we could get there sooner, you can bet we would be there to get a full day in the parks. We have never showed up and a room not be ready.

We usually fly in on the earliest flight, check in, then leave the bags with bell services and head off to the parks!

Shula’s Steakhouse Review

By AJ 18 Comments

Shula's Steakhouse

Shula’s Steakhouse at the Disney World Dolphin (A coincidence? I think not.) came highly recommended, and even though I’m a Le Cellier and Yachtsman Steakhouse devotee, I knew I had to try this “dark horse” steakhouse on property.

Atmosphere Shula’s is a shrine to all things Don Shula and football. This would be fine with me, except that I’m a huge Buffalo Bills fan and just happened to grow up going to games in the midst of the fierce Dolphins/Bills rivalry — the games where even the nosebleed seats in Ralph Wilson Stadium were sold out and the real “entertainment” consisted of betting on how many fan fights in the stands would end with someone being hauled out of the place by force. So you can understand that I was a big reluctant to patronize this restaurant what with my fierce loyalty to Marv Levy. Regardless, in order to pit the three Disney World steakhouses against one another (which I’ll do in an upcoming post), I had to try this out for the sake of research.

We had a reservation for the restaurant’s opening time, and although we arrived on time, the restaurant opened about 15 minutes late and we weren’t seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. I used the time to wander the restaurant and take some photos of the decor, which is all dark wood, white tablecloths, red wine, and humidors. This is clearly a “man cave” type of place, but it can be highly romantic if that’s what you’re looking for.

By the way, I need to mention that this place is dark. I mean really dark . We really wished we’d brought some sort of pen light or something, as we had a very difficult time seeing our food, reading the menus, etc. I even snagged a second candle from the (empty) table next to us so that I could see what utensil I was using. If you have a booklight, bring it.

Restaurant History and Background Shula’s Steakhouse is one of five nationally branded restaurant chains run by Don Shula’s company; you can also dine at Shula’s 2 (a sports bar feel), Shula’s Grill and Wine Bar, Shula’s On the Beach, and Shula’s 347 Grill.

Shula’s meat comes from Angus cattle they own and raise via the Graham Angus Farm in Albany, Georgia, which has been in operation since the 1930’s. (The “Shula Cut,” according to the website , “is more discriminating and selective than USDA prime or choice.”) If you’re truly adventurous, you can aspire to join their 48 oz. club. Simply gobble up a whole 48 oz. porterhouse and you get your name engraved on a brass plaque and smacked up on the wall.

They’re serious about their food here — except, of course, for the football menu…

Dining Experience The football menu comes out of nowhere, and feels a bit out of place in the swanky atmosphere Shula’s has cultivated for the restaurant. But it does bring you back to reality when a big ol’ painted football is plopped down on your table.

The Football Menu

The Football Menu

On the football are printed the restaurant’s special cuts of meat. You get a real menu, too, of course, but this is a tradition in the place. In my opinion, even though the whimsy is a bit misplaced and forced, I think it’s kind of fun. Fancy-schmancy restaurants can sometimes take themselves too seriously; this ensures that they know it’s all just a “big game.”

While scoping out the menu, we were surprised to see the server wheeling over a butcher table cart. On it were raw steaks, lettuce, a giant tomato, and a massive potato. Hmm.

When he arrived, he began explaining the different cuts of meat and showing us the size of the veggies used in the meals so that we could gauge what we wanted to order. I thought this was a great touch — so few of us are truly educated on meat cuts and flavors. We were also glad to see the size of the potato, which ensured we ordered only one to share between us!

We decided to order the cowboy ribeye (my very favorite cut of meat ever) and the filet mignon. We added to the order a caesar salad, an order of asparagus with hollandaise, a hash brown, and a twice-baked potato. (This is NOT a place you go when you’re worried about clogged arteries, my friends.) Here’s what we received. And, yes, everything was served on plates as big as my head.

Hash Brown

Twice Baked Potato

As you can see, this is not only a lot of food for normally-sized plates, this is a way lot of food for the giant plates on which it was served. I’m not kidding you when I say that hash brown was easily 8 inches in diameter and an inch thick. Many, many potatoes died for that thing, my friends. And the dish of asparagus could easily have served a family of four for two nights.

What you can’t see is how delicious everything was. The steaks were perfect; the vegetables were fresh and prepared with just the right spices and ingredient additions. This food was no-frills, which is what I, personally, like in a steakhouse. Simple dishes, big portions, well-prepared.

We also ordered a fantastic apple crisp for dessert that we, unfortunately, devoured before we remembered to take a photo. For those of you who head to Shula’s, I highly recommend that dessert.

Overall Analysis From a Buffalo Bills Fan It’s a “different” atmosphere from what you’ll find at a Disney steakhouse. Servers are a little less happy than they are after they’ve had Disney training and the dark/romantic feel to the place could take some getting used to if you’re expecting Chef Mickey’s. But cozy surroundings and good service accompany some very tasty food, assuming you’re a steak-lover.

More analysis forthcoming when we post the “Steakhouse Throwdown,” pitting Le Cellier, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and Shula’s against one another in the ultimate Steakhouse battle!

Side question for the Disney foodies out there: are any of the Dolphin and Swan restaurants on the Dining Plan?

' src=

November 17, 2009 at 12:32 pm

This is a great, great review, AJ! Loved your description of the Bills games and very much appreciate the warnings about how dark the restaurant is and how large the portion sizes. I’m pretty horrified by how many names are on that 48 oz club plaque. 8 oz is about all I can manage! Needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be able to dine here solo–those plates look like they could feed me for four days!

Why are so many restaurants so dark you can’t even read the menu??? I’ve run into this more times than I can count. What are they thinking?

' src=

November 17, 2009 at 1:27 pm

James — I don’t think any of the Swolphin restaurants are on the dining plan 🙁

AuroraBorieAlice — This would be a great choice! I think you guys would like it.

Gray — I don’t get it either. I’m going to start bringing a flashlight. Thanks for the kudos!

Ok, who could pass up a hash brown larger than their head? That looks yummy. Well, that and all the rest of the food.

My husband is a Patriots fan and is irked by the smugness of the ’72 Dolphins during the Pats’ undefeated season (well, until that pesky Super Bowl), so he adamantly refuses to eat at Shula’s. I’m hoping another team can go undefeated this year and actually win the Super Bowl, in which case my husband may relent. LOL.

Shayne — Isn’t it hilarious what our football loyalties will do to our ability to eat out?! 😉

Oh, man, I gotta try this place the next time we do WDW, if only to see how it matches up against my local Eddie Merlot’s (my favorite steakhouse anywhere, ever), the Jeff Ruby establishments (local high end steak emporiums where local sports celebs [Bengals, Reds players] dine frequently, and my second favorite place to get a steak), and Morton’s.

And please, please, PLEASE hurry and post that Steakhouse Throwdown piece soon! I’m so anxious to read it! Personally, of the three places I’ve had steak on WDW property (notice that I’m not even counting the “steak” I purchased for lunch at ’50s Prime Time back in ’02 ::shudders::), my rankings are thus: Yachtsman, Jiko, and, coming in a quite distant third, Le Cellier.

November 19, 2009 at 1:53 am

Ah…Jeff…Jiko is indeed a good steak! I’ll get on that Steakhouse Throwdown soon!

I somehow missed this post (shame! I know…) I can’t get over the size of the filet! I’m an Eagles fan, so no loyalty stopping me from eating here 🙂 …though I refuse to even consider visiting the city of Dallas…

I’ve heard the complaint about lighting at Shula’s a LOT! My boyfriend would absolutely love this place, perhaps we should add it to the list!

November 20, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Def. add it to the list, Kelly. It’s a great stop for a great steak. (Funny that you won’t visit Dallas — that’s where I’m living currently!)

November 18, 2010 at 12:02 am

CLWDW — I know. It was hard. A casualty of the job. ;-D Next time I go I should get decked out in my Bills jersey!!!

November 19, 2010 at 6:23 pm

agreed… and you should request some buffalo wings

Shayne- I am with your husband. I will not give Don Shula another penny of my hard earned $$. Yes, I love my Patriots! Also the food and service IMO has gone down since our 1st time in 2001. Our last time was about 3 years ago and the steaks were too salty. My hubbys filet was kind of folded over and raw in the fold??!!

November 30, 2010 at 12:23 am

I really want to try this restaurant and I respect the level of perfection that is perceived with the decor and all. My issue is their advertisements. If the restaurant is not as successful as they hope to be, I must attribute some of that to the man in a very expensive suit in their ad. It makes me believe that I must be in a suit and tie and dressed as if I’m attending a wedding to enter. That is just not going to draw in the usual Disney crowd. Perhaps a nice polo shirt? 🙂

Wanted to take my husband for a special birthday dinner here. Made reservations well in advance & told them about the birthday. Reconfirmed a couple of days before hand, again mentioning my husband’s birthday. when we arrived and checked in, there was no mention of the birthday. Because the portions were a good size, I shared my meal with my son. The service was not as we hoped for. Very slow and unconcerned. Food arrived and was far from what we expected. I could have gotten better at Outback. We went through our meal, paid the tab, which was over $200, left a decent tip, then asked to speak to the manager. We told him of our experience and his reply was “Well, we’re not a Disney property.” There was no apology for the poor service or quality of the food. I guess since they’re not a “Disney property” that allows them to charge ridiculous prices, sub-par service and a crappy attitude towards the customer.

Yachtsman Steakhouse

Ratings and reviews, food and ambience, location and contact.

We have had dinner at the Yachtsman every trip to WDW, about every one-two years, even when not staying at the Yacht Club Resort. Service is usually slower than other fine dining restaurants, but not a problem for us because we like a relaxing dinner.... However, 1 1/2 hours to get our meal AFTER ordering 20 minutes after being seated, is painfully too slow. We had reservations for 5:00pm and the restaurant was not at all crowded when we arrived and about 1/2 full when we left around 7:30pm. We had spent all day in the Parks and were a thirsty so we did ask our server for lots of water. We ran out, over and over. We were updated about our mains about 15 minuets before they were served. We were wondering if there was a problem (sick/didn't show/in training) with chef/s. We had drinks, appetizers and entries but were too tired to wait for dessert. Party of 3 adults with a large tab. Along with the main, we ordered several sides. The truffle mac & cheese was so oily none of us could eat it. French onion soup had very few onions, not much cheese and was mostly broth. Spinach seemed frozen. The meat was good and cooked to perfection. Be prepared to wait a long time for your meal, avoid the sides and bring your own bottle of water if you like to have water before and during your meal. More

We were celebrating our 30th anniversary my parents 60th anniversary and our daughter’s engagement this restaurant made us feel so special. From personalized keepsake menus, celebration desserts and a champagne toast all unexpected. The food was to die for and our server Carrie was the... best. Highly recommend. More

We've been here before and I think perhaps even reviewed previously. I recall that the first time the food was great but the service was a bit lacking (a bit like it was forced or we were being served by someone that really didn't want... to be there). This time however, our server was great, the food was excellent, and with one side dish that wasn't quite right, they left it on the table (for us to eat if we wished), brought a replacement (which was perfect) and took the item off the bill (without telling us). All of it without a single bit of fuss. I cannot think of a better way to handle the situation. We were very well looked after and as a result I am sure we stayed a bit longer, had a second $100 bottle of champagne and had dessert, which we we not planning to. More

The Restaurant was not overly busy. We were a group of 6. Waiter was doing his best but the kitchen and food timing was extremely slow this past Saturday night. Our entrees took over an hour to come out. They were actually giving out mini... desserts. Then when the food finally came some of the appetizers and sides were not right. The manager gave a credit of 20% however, this was really the discount as annual pass holders we should have received anyways. Then I reviewed my receipt at home and realized I tipped $100.00 for the table but then realized that the manager added 18% or 98.64 already on the bill. That again voided the 20% credit by me not being told it was on there by someone on staff. This was on my husband's bucket list and it was his Birthday - he was very disappointed overall and embarrassed he convinced his friends to come celebrate with him. More

There's good reason why this restaurant always has availability and we should have realized that before dinner last night. I've dined here since I was a child and it used to be fantastic from start to finish, but the last few visits have been lackluster... and last night's dinner will be my last at the Yachtman. The night started with a cocktail as the bar as we waited for our table, and that was the best part of the evening. We were seated promptly, our server greeted us a few minutes later and we ordered a bottle of wine. TWENTY minutes later he returned with water. No wine. We then started a countdown clock and planned to leave if the server didn't return with the wine in the next 5 minutes. He dropped the unopened bottle of wine on the table with 45 seconds to spare...and then he left to drop off sodas at another table. At this point, as we stare at the unopened bottle of wine (the only thing other than water on the table) we notice that the vintage is different than what's listed on the menu. Seriously Disney, this restaurant just reopened and the menu is already wrong??? Two tables who were seated several minutes after us, had already received bread and cocktails. Meanwhile, we are closing in on a 30 minute wait for a bottle of wine that requires no preparation like a cocktail does. Finally, the server returned a few minutes later and opened the wine. Success! The starters were lovely - Caesar salad and French onion soup, and as always, the bread was fantastic. The pacing of the meal was great and while we did not see our server again, it didn't matter as the rest of team delivered. Our NY strips arrived, and were served to the wrong person - the person didn't ask who ordered what temperature, they just sat the plates before us, incorrectly. The steaks weren't seasoned well at all, they were bland. I prefer not to use any sauce on a steak, but the sauce was needed to impart any flavor into the meal. The accompaniments had flavor, but weren't enough to save the steaks. This was another disappointing meal at the Yachtman's Steakhouse, and it's sad that the level of service and food has continued to decline. But, if you prefer the old Disney elegant décor and don't care about the meal, the Yachtman is the place. But, if you want a great steak dinner while at Disney World, The Boathouse is the place. It doesn't have the dark-wood old school steakhouse ambiance of the Yachtman, but it has fantastic food and exceptional service (and you won't wait 30 minutes for a bottle of unopened wrong vintage wine to be plopped on your table). We loved this restaurant, it was our sanctuary after a day of craziness at the parks, we ended up eating here 7 out of the 12 nights we were staying at the Beach Club. Our son has allergies, and Chef Jimmy was great at making... sure he had what he wanted to eat, he gave us the reassurance we needed which is priceless. The seaters Mark and Nathalie were always so warm, taking the time to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. Servers Raymond and Carrie are brilliant at their jobs, really getting to know how we liked our drinks and food etc. The managers are great too, especially Rebecca, who is so friendly. Oh yes and the food is very delicious too and perfectly cooked! We can't thank them all enough for taking such good care of us, and we very much hope one day to be back! More

Our party of 5 visited for dinner on Dec 26th. We had an amazing meal, and our server, William, (Billy M) was outstanding. His suggestions from start to finish, especially the wine, were all on point! The kitchen was very accommodating to a couple of... omissions/changes that our party requested. Billy stole the show, it was apparent that he loves what he does and because of this, he does it well! Thank you for a memorable meal for us while we were in Disney. More

We dined here a couple weeks ago as a party of 7. It was our arrival day at Disney and I knew we would be hungry so we booked an early 5:15 seating which is just after the restaurant opened. Our server Bev has been... at the Yachtsman for 24 years and it shows. She was amazing. 5 of the 7 of us ordered the filet and they were all cooked perfectly. The bread service was delicious with the garlic and we all were happy with our meals. I also really liked the quieter less chaotic atmosphere here. More

My husband and I had a very poignant milestone to celebrate, so we chose to return to our beloved Yachtsman Steakhouse for the occasion. We requested their primo server, David K, he has cared for our family for years now and has become a lovely... part of our family! His service was, as always, the zenith of quiet attentiveness and kindness, he is a true professional. The food stands on its own, we enjoyed the classic shrimp cocktail and loved the Ahi Tuna Tartare. I usually have the prime rib and my husband orders a filet, both arrived perfectly cooked and delicious. Treat yourself to the Potato Leek Gratin, it is an indulgence worthy of the calories! This great steakhouse and its stellar staff make you forget that there is a theme park a few feet away. More

We came over one night from Epcot because we had eaten here before in 2015 and enjoyed the meal. The service is still excellent; the waiter we had kept checking on us to see if we needed anything during the meal. The appetizers (salad and... Ahi Tuna) were very good along with the bread they bring to the table. Both of us had Filet Mignon and asked for it "medium rare" which one came correct but mine was more medium well; they flame cook the steaks which chars the outside which I do not care for. I didn't bother to ask for the steak to be corrected because we wanted to go back to Epcot in time to still walk around and watch the fireworks; and they would still flame cook another one so why bother. Overall I would give 3.5 out of 5. I would go back in the future and try this restaurant again. More

This is a Signature Dining restaurant on Disney property. There is a dress code requested but clearly not enforced. We checked in a few minutes early and immediately received a text saying our table was ready. We went inside and it still took about 10... mins before we were seated. Once seated our waiter was very friendly and not in a hurry to have us order. We ordered the Lobster Bisque and the Beef Carpaccio. The Beef Carpaccio was different it was a nice light first course, I really wanted the French Onion Soup but was afraid of it being too heavy so this was a nice alternative. My husband enjoyed the Lobster Bisque. The bread service was good and the first course came out very fast, bit after that we must have waited at least 30 mins maybe longer before our main meal came out and really no visit from our waiter. Our reservation was for 7:30 and it was almost 8:45 and we hadn't received our main meal yet. We both ordered the NY Strip, I swapped the sauce for the Blue Cheese-Shallot Butter that normally comes with the Rib Eye - definitely recommend that if you like blue cheese. My steak was over salted, but other than that cooked perfectly, I also got the Haricots Verts (green beans) as my side and my husband got the Potato-Leek Gratin both were very good. Overall food was good but it took so long to get it, and the atmosphere felt more like a family dining restaurant than a signature restaurant. The lights we're very bright, it was very loud and there were surprisingly a lot of kids. Our total bill was just under $200 for a First Course, Main Meal, 1 Beer and 1 Manhattan. We expected a pricey bill but we also expected a better atmosphere and overall better experience. I'm not sure we will be back. We may do the lounge next time to try the French Onion Soup, but that may be it. I think this one was a One and Done for us. More

This was a disappointing experience from check in till the point of seeing charges on my credit card. I would not return, mainly based on quality of service, ambiance, and the steak. Despite showing up on time for our reservation we were forced to wait... 15 minutes to be seated and close to that again before we received service. Clearly they were understaffed. The waiting area did not have sufficient seating for the hoards waiting for tables. Tables are close together and the noise level in restaurant is high. The wine when we eventually got it, was subpar, and the beer was warm. However the appetizers (beef carpaccio and French onion soup) were quite good. Sadly the steak arrived cold, and clearly had been sitting for a while before being brought to our table. When we complained the server argued with us about how the steak should be done. The meat was taken away, the same pieces with our cut marks on them were brought back warmed up. No apology. The bill was about double what we pay at the Keg. Very very disappointing overall from start to finish. More

My family loves this restaurant for the great food and service. Of particular note, we love the whole roasted garlic which comes with the bread service. My family can't get enough! The steaks were delicious and perfectly cooked. The sides were tasty and generous. Overall... - we always have a great time. Very nice dinner out had by all. I wish we had room for dessert as we saw several go by our table but we were just stuffed. The presentation for the dessert looked beautiful! More

Do not waste your money or time at this restaurant. Not only did we have to wait 30 minutes to be seated after our reservation time but the wait to receive main course was quite literally over two hours! The server was incredibly rude as... it was clear she was overextended due to the lack of adequate staffing at the restaurant. Thus she snapped, but to our detriment. Two hours when you have young children at the table in the evening is not acceptable. The food was not "signature" as the restaurant is categorized as a Disney Signature restaurant. Would suggest going to another steakhouse, perhaps in Disney Springs rather than at the Yachtsman. By the time you uber/lyft back and forth from Disney Springs you still likely would save money, time and have better food! Wish we had gone that route. More

We had reservations to celebrate our twins 21st birthday and our 31st anniversary. We were sat and never brought drinks or bread. 55 mins into we had drinks and that was it. 1 1/2 hours into it I requested bread. Well over two hours into... it we asked about our meal. When we were finally served, two of the prime ribs were grey, they had cut the meat and obviously steamed it because they had none cooked. This went on and even the manager came by ONCE and never came back again. We did not even get desert and were rushed out after "eating" what was edible. We paid a tremendous amount for a horrible meal. No Disney magic at this restaurant. Find somewhere else to celebrate and spend this kind of money. More

Yachtsman steakhouse, october 2015 trip review.

Once seated I was soon greeted by my server and his assistant (who I believe was in training), and they made sure I was very well taken care of throughout my meal. Here is the menu I was presented…

I first ordered an ice tea, as I love that at YSH they serve it with a small pitcher of simple syrup (which allows for the option of making your own sweet tea)…

Next came the bread basket, which contains another much-loved YSH item…

I then followed my original plan and ordered this appetizer…

Yachtsman vs. Shula's Steakhouse

We've eaten in Shulas. Loved the steaks and the crab mac and cheese is to die for. That being said, we wanted to try something new this visit. I have ADRs for the Yachtsman, but now I'm getting nervous tht it won't be as good as Shulas. Can anybody who has gone to both give me their perspective as far as entree, apps, dessert, serving size, service, atmosphere and price? IMO if I had to pick one negative about Shulas, it would be the atmosphere.

A dream is a wish your heart makes........

We have eaten at Shula's a few years ago and we really enjoyed it. You are right about the atmosphere. I found it a little to dark for me. We stay at the Beach Club and always eat at the Yaghtsman. Service is great, portions are very good and a good choice for app's and desert. It is a signature restaurant so the prices are not cheep. If you like Shula's I'm sure you won't be dissappointed at the Yaghtsman. The Flying Fish restaurant at the Boardwalk also has a great steak. This is also a signature restaurant so the prices are up there. But both are worth it.

D&R love Disney

Dis veteran.

We eat at both and for food quality Shulas is definetly better. We do enjoy both and usually eat at one or the other each trip.

  1. You Won't Be Mad at Yachtsman Steakhouse in Disney World … Probably

While Yachtsman is a good steak place, let's get serious…the best steak place is Shula's. In fact, it is one of the top 10 restaurants I've been too. The steaks…phenomenal. Fresh baked sour dough bread. And, soufflé for dessert. Soufflé in Florida's humidity…now that's a feat.

  2. Shula's vs Yachtsman

    8. Re: Shula's vs Yachtsman. 6 years ago. Last year on one visit we decided to not do Shulas, but try STK instead. It wasn't awful, but we ran right back to Shula's that same trip. This time I don't think we will be able to fit both in if we are disappointed in Yachtsman. Such tough decisions we must make in life.

  3. Yachtsman Steakhouse or Shula's?

I have tried both places Shula's (WDW and NYC) and Yachtsman Steakhouse. I think that Shula's all around is absolutely top notch from the service, decor, food, etc. The surf and turf (2lb lobster actually half of 4lb they cut down middle, and filet mignon) was absolutely the best I have ever had. The steaks are extremely tender, although filet ...

  4. Steak Lovers: Yachtsman Steakhouse vs Shula´s.

Prime is government (UDA) rated. Shula's serves "certified angus brand". They claim their beef exceeds prime standards in 7 out of the 8 criteria and exceeds choice in the 8th. What that really means is their steaks aren't prime, because they're sub-prime in at least one qualifying standards.

  5. Shula's or Yachtman steakhouse?

15 years ago. Yachtsman is serving grain fed vs Angus at Shula's. For us is Shula's hands down. Speaking of fillet mignon, Shula's is 12 oz:-) Report inappropriate content. MDJDenver. Denver, Colorado. Level Contributor. 1,426 posts.

The consensus was Yachtsman Steakhouse, Jiko, and California Grill. However, the restaurant Shula's was a name that kept appearing throughout the thread. So I wanted to ask if you guys preferred Shula's Steakhouse or Yachtsman's Steakhouse, or some other high profile restaurant in WDW. Thanks!

Jul 28, 2021. #9. Shula's is way better food (I think its also more expensive). Yachtsmans "theme" isn't worth the bother. Although frankly, steak on Disney property is never great (from the perspective of someone who has had steak in places like Oklahoma City and Omaha).

  9. Shula's steakhouse or Yachtsman? : r/WaltDisneyWorld

Shula's was far better. Both are good. Shula's is stuffier, al a carte, and more expensive. Not sure I can say it's better since people have mixed experiences at both. Shula's probably edges Yatchsman out a bit on service. But then again, Yatchsman's probably isn't something you'd write home about either. Funny story.

Which one of these would you pick? We haven't dined at either and really want a decent piece of beef on our vacation (and my vacation from my diet)! I have an ADR at Yachtsman, but then saw the menu for Shula's and thought I'd see if I can get opinions. We have a night at Jellyroll's...
