Great day for the Kiwis, with three top-two finishes. They have inside running towards the final, but two more races tomorrow before we get there. 

Some teams have work to do, with Australia suffering some damage, and GB and France battling for a spot in the final, behind Canada.

Join us again tomorrow for the second day of racing at Lyttelton.

Canada cross first, but NZ right on their heels, with GB an important third. USA next, then France.

Canada ahead at the gate, NZ second and GB third. Kiwis split and have right of way next time they cross with Canada.

NZ and GB have all the speeed, and they are gaining on Canada. Mini match race between NZ and GB, but the Aussies have a broken rudder and trail in eighth.

Kiwis within 85 metres of Canada, British chasing them hard and now right on them.

Canada still ahead and NZ follow them around the fourth gate. GB third and France are now up to fourth.

Kiwis have dropped the Aussies and GB also move through into third.

Canada first around, but NZ and Australia have right of way over GB and are next around. They split from the Canadians and head down the right of the course.

Canada head into Gate Two, but NZ now third, behind France. The French fall off the foils and suffer a penalty, after turning too close to the Aussies.

Big pack at the head of the field, but NZ off the back, serving their penalty. They move through the fleet to second, great recovery.

Spithill hits the line first and fastest for USA, with the Kiwis trailling at the back of the field.

One minute to go and NZ have taken a middle course for this start. They incur a boundary penalty...

Another seven legs with wind speed of 28kph.

Winds have become gustier through the course of the afternoon and the finish-line has moved as a result. France are having trouble with their boat, with only three minutes until the start of the next race.

NZ take the lead of the regatta, with the Aussies second, and France and GB battling for the third spot

NZ heading straight to the finish and will take the win. Great result for  their hopes of making tomorrow's final, beating Australia.

Kiwis leading downwind at 58kph, with Australia second. They've picked up a windshift and are now more than 100 metres clear.

Aussies follow Kiwis around fourth gate and almost crash. NZ only just recover from that turn, but Aussies have lost ground.

NZ and Australia on opposite sides of the course again and the Kiwis ahead now, Canada third... GB seventh and France eighth.

Australia have to dip under the Kiwis at the gate, so NZ lead around gate three

NZ dip below Australia, but will hold right-of-way next time they meet. Canada in third, then Denmack and France back in sixth, GB at the rear, so good news for the Kiwis.

Australia and NZ split to opposite sides of the course, Spain teeter and almost capsize. Denmark in third, same side as Australia.

Australia and NZ head the field into the second gate...

The fleet head towards the right layline and then Gate Two, still jockeying for positions.

NZ catch that start perfectly, Australia in the lead, but the Kiwis fastest on the line...

One minute siren sounds, with NZ at the right end of the field and one of the last to turn towards the line.

Two minutes until the start of Race Two, so very little time to reflect in this rapidfire format. Confirmation of seven legs again for this race, same as the first.

Good start from the Kiwis, as they try to nail a spot in tomorrow's final and only three boats progressing, but their nearest rivals are also right there in contention.

Kiwis have split from France and have just one manoeuvre, compared to two from their opponents, but France have too much speed and win the race.

NZ are second, 13 seconds back, and GB third.

French have lengthened their advantage again over the Kiwis, as they approach the sixth gate and head to the finish

Kiwis have moved into second and gaining on the French upwind to the third gate.

Canada hold the lead at the first mark, but the field still spread across the track as they turn towards gate two. NZ back in seventh, France take the lead...

Clean start by all, with Canada in the middle and NZ at the right, trying to round the field.

Timing is everything here, as the boats round towards the line.

Less than two minutes and boats are milling around the start area, preparing to unleash their pre-start manoeuvres. One minute to go now...

3:36pm - The dolphins have gone and racing will begin in six minutes.

3:30pm - Still no sailing on the course, as dolphins pass through...

3:11pm - The first race has been delayed, after a dolphin sighting near the course. SailGP is very conscious of preserving the ocean and its wildlife, so the dolphins must come first.

3:02pm - The format for racing this weekend will see three races today and two more tomorrow, before the three-boat regatta final.

Beautiful day at Lyttelton with a nice wind - perfect conditions.

Just under eight minutes to the start of Race One.

NZ driver Peter Burling is downplaying the Aussie rivalry, despite their complaints that the Kiwis snuck out on the course for a quick reconnaissance.

The defending champions are there purely for nuisance value today, as they have clinched their spot in the Grand Final and can only influence who their opponents will be.

Kia ora, good afternoon and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of NZ Sail Grand Prix at Christchurch's Lyttelton Harbour.

After COVID-19 delays, New Zealand finally gets to host a leg of the sailing world series on home waters and this particular regatta - the penultimate event on the 2022/23 scheduled - couldn't come at a better time for the home team.

With two-time defending champions Australia well clear at the top of the standings and assured of a spot in the decider at San Francisco in May, the Kiwis currently occupy second spot, with the field snapping at their heels.

Only three teams will contest the final, so Peter Burling and Blair Tuke will be keen to take advantage of their local knowledge to clinch one of those spots.

Like Burling and Tuke, many of the other leading sailors are well know to NZ fans through their involvement in America's Cup, so established rivalries will come to the fore, especially old mates Jimmy Spithill and Sir Ben Ainslie.

'Redheaded stepchild': Spithill's colourful relationship with Kiwis continues at SailGP

Jimmy Spithill is the man Kiwi sailing fans have long loved to hate and he's relishing that tag once again, as SailGP makes its New Zealand debut at Lyttelton this weekend.

Spithill was at the helm as the man responsible for one of the greatest heartbreaks in New Zealand sporting history.

In 2013, at 8-1 down in the America's Cup final at San Francisco, Spithill masterminded a fairytale recovery effort, as Oracle Team USA came back to stun Team NZ to snatch the 'Auld Mug'.

Team NZ got their own back in Bermuda four years later, but Spithill's status as the archetypal sporting villain will forever endure - not that he minds.

As SailGP makes its belated debut in New Zealand, the Aussie is back in the heart of enemy territory.

Despite his Australian roots, Spithill is the chief executive and driver of Team USA, and will compete on Kiwi waters once again at a vital time in the campaign.

Back in Aotearoa, he's been reminded how he's viewed by Kiwis. 

"A guy came up to me on the street the other day and said, 'You're basically the redheaded stepchild of New Zealand'," Spithill joked. "I took it as a compliment, obviously.

"I've got a lot of friends, fans and feedback here, for sure. It's a great place.

"I've never been to Christchurch, [it's my] first time down here, it's an amazing city… the forecast looks unreal. I'm pretty pumped to get out there."

With only one regular leg left before the Grand Final in May, Spithill's Team USA sit sixth in SailGP's standings, 24 points off first-placed Australia and nine points adrift of the top three.

A good performance this weekend will boost USA's chances of reaching the finale, needing a top three finish to qualify, but even with it all to do over the coming days, Spithill knows his side have what it takes.

"There's a lot of points still available, just in the amount of racing that's there," he added. "With the penalty system, any time there's damage or a collision, there's also a lot of points that can be lost - quickly.

"From my point of view, it's possible, we have to believe that, but at the end of the day, if you think too far ahead to the finish-line, it's a waste of energy. You've really got to focus on one race at a time, that's the situation we're in.

"We're one of a few teams that have shown we can actually win this season. We've had a few good results, we've had some bad ones too.

"San Francisco is a big one for us. We'd love to get ready for that one and come out firing.

"Who knows, we'll see what can happen. Things can change really quick in SailGP."

Perseus^3 wins Millennium Cup

A strong effort in light winds by perseus^3 sees it win the 2024 nz millennium cup on auckland's hauraki gulf….

The 2024 NZ Millennium Cup has crowned its winner. The final day of racing on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf saw the fleet competing in winds on a course with a 23nm final leg to decide line honors.

The yachts took off from Motutapu, passed the Noises, then D'Urville Rock, Rakino, the Haystack, and returned home. Despite the substantial length of the course, they weren’t able to shake clear of each other. Perseus^3 crossed the finish line first, while Janice of Wyoming , Sassafras , Cat+Ion , and Kotuku dueled all the way to the line.

Sunday’s grey, moody Auckland sky was brightened as Janice of Wyoming unfurled her cowboy spinnaker, but they couldn’t catch Perseus^3 . Having dominated racing on the first day, won line honors on day two to Sassafras ’ win on corrected time, and charged out strongly on day three, Perseus^3 couldn’t be stopped.

“I love being here in New Zealand, but what I love most about our boat is we have these warriors who sail it here. When we race, we bring the greatest,” said the owner of Perseus^3 . "We’ve been fighting the Kiwis in sailing for years. And if you can’t beat them, hire them on your boat. We’ll be coming back every year,” he added.

The multihull division was tightly contested, with outcomes often too close to call. Ultimately, Outnumbered claimed the honors in her first NZ Millennium Cup. “It’s our first time in New Zealand,” said Outnumbered’s owner. “And we’re in love with the country; we love the people.”

“It’s been great to have the boats back and the regatta running, with the additional bonus of having the very impressive sight of Perseus^3 on the course,” says principal race officer Harold Bennett.

“The sight of those three big yachts powering up and crossing together is a sight I’ll never forget. We haven’t seen a finish that close before over successive NZ Millennium Cups. It’s a privilege to work for these boats and a privilege to work for this team,” concludes Bennett.

Sassafras , winner of day two’s racing and a long-term competitor in the Cup, was gracious in ceding victory to Perseus^3 .

With Auckland established as a refit and charter base in the South Pacific, which is proving an increasingly popular charter destination, this regatta provides another drawcard to New Zealand. The Pacific nation is equipped with world-class refit facilities and charter friendly legislation.

Emirates Team New Zealand win World Series in first clues for 36th America’s Cup

Emirates Team New Zealand win the America’s Cup World Series, which concluded in Auckland this morning

Can the Kiwis be beaten for the 36th America’s Cup? They must be on short odds already, three months out from the main event, given the dominant performance of Emirates Team New Zealand to win the Auckland America’s Cup World Series, which concluded this morning.

After 12 races, it came down to a final race decider between Challenger of Record Luna and the home Defenders for the PRADA America’s Cup World Series Auckland trophy. With Emirates Team New Zealand and American Magic on even points, a win against Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli would give the Kiwis the point that they needed to take the trophy.

Going into this morning, both the New York Yacht Club’s American Magic and Emirates Team New Zealand had taken three wins apiece over the previous two days racing, with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli winning two of four, and INEOS Team UK trailing with four losses.

The opening race was yet another straight defeat for INEOS Team UK, who were left trailing by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and finished almost two legs behind. It’s been clear since the start of the America’s Cup World Series that INEOS Team UK are struggling for boat speed in light airs as well as foil control, and the British boat lost valuable ground by coming off the foils at several points during the race.

Today’s second contest was between Emirates Team New Zealand and American Magic. The dark blue American boat has looked to be the closest to Emirates Team New Zealand’s speed over the range of conditions we’ve seen so far, and rather than engage in a close pre-start duel this race started with a speed-off-the-line contest. Emirates Team New Zealand were at the pin end while American Magic were at the committee boat end, both boats at speed and on starboard.

When the pair came back together, after the Kiwis had tacked onto port, the Americans used the starboard tactical advantage to tack in front of Emirates Team New Zealand. Advantage American Magic. Eventually the Kiwis tacked away, unable and unwilling to live in the dirty air of the Americans, who were able to continue to work the right-hand side of the course handing them a slight further advantage, but the margin was still slim.

Meanwhile, Emirates Team New Zealand showed they are not invincible: mishandling a tack momentarily and splashing down off the foils, which helped to hand American Magic a few more metres. By the top gate on the first lap, American Magic led Emirates Team New Zealand by 12 seconds. But by the bottom mark Emirates Team New Zealand had hauled American Magic in to trail by just 3 seconds as they went through the leeward gate.

The big race changing moment came at the top of the second beat when the Americans came off their foils through a tack and parked up just short of the windward gate. The mistake proved costly, handing the lead to the Kiwis who rounded the windward mark 54 seconds ahead. The black boat held on to win by 1min 19 seconds.

In the day’s penultimate race, American Magic beat INEOS TEAM UK by a considerable margin of 5min 48 seconds. Although both teams picked up penalties – INEOS for being early into the start box, American Magic for slipping over the boundary, the delta between the two only expanded as the wind dropped, signing off what will be a very concerning ACWS for Ben Ainslie and the British crew.

This left the final race as the decider – if the Kiwis beat the Italians they would win the first contest for the AC75s overall. One of the surprises of this World Series has been how much pre-start engagement we have already seen from the skippers in this experimental new class , and plenty of that has already featured Luna Rossa. “Jimmy Spithill has always, always, got his elbows out,” commentator and Olympian Shirley Robertson observed on the first day. This race was no exception: Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli showing their intent with a perfect port tack shortly after forcing Emirates Team New Zealand into the unfavoured corner of the start zone, nicknamed ‘coffin corner’ by the sailors. New Zealand’s Peter Burling could only follow the Italians over the line, who were already over 200m ahead.

By the first gate, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli were ahead by 32seconds, and when Emirates Team New Zealand pinched around the top mark only to come off their foils in the process that margin grew to 800m. But when Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli splashed down as well, the race became a match to see who could take-off and get back to full pace soonest.

Emirates Team New Zealand took flight first, doubling their speed over Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, 24 to 12 knots respectively. But the news for the Italians was about to get even worse as the Kiwis stayed with their breeze to sail at 29 knots, while Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli struggled to break 15. This has been a repeating pattern over the World Series – the New Zealand team is not immune to mistakes, but they have consistently seemed able to recover, and get back up to full foiling pace, faster than their competitors.

The rest of the race was not flawless – again the Kiwis came off their foils during a slow tack, and around the last gate had just an 18 seconds lead. The pair split across the course, searching for uninterrupted speed rather than tactical gains, but when they came back together at the finish it was the Kiwis that had held their lead to finish 16 seconds ahead of the Italians and in doing so, Emirates Team New Zealand win the Prada America’s Cup World Series.

Emirates Team New Zealand’s foil controller Blair Tuke summed up after racing: “It was tough coming off the foils, so we were happy to get back up again, but a bit more happy when they came off foils! The wind got down to 6 knots at one point, so it was an awesome effort to get going by the lads and keep it going for the rest of the race – so all good.

“It has been an epic day’s racing, American Magic and Luna Rossa are certainly going really well in these conditions – great to secure the win in front of a fantastic crowd out there.

“Today was at the bottom end of the wind range we agreed to sail on. We could really notice big gains and losses, which made it a tricky race. We had a pretty good race with Luna Rossa, even if we were seeing some pretty light numbers, so it made for a pretty tricky end of the race.

“We really enjoyed the challenge. We were blown away by how many kiwis showed up to see us here and seeing how many boats were around the racetrack.

“Today was a little bit patchy. At every start, the wind was at the correct speed to kick off the race, but there clearly were a couple of errors on the course, but the guys that did a better job of that won the race.

“Francesco and I get to discuss the [pres-start] strategy before the start. There is certain times where you are the helmsman and you make the decision, and the other guy is really doing the foil trimming, and every time you are the helmsman you have to make the decision. It’s been a fun process: it’s something completely new, never done before in the Cup, so it’s been really cool experience. Felt good to come off the line well both times”.

Dean Barker, Helmsman – New York American Magic “We were looking forward to having a good close race with Team NZ, it was nice to have a small advantage at the beginning, but when you drop off the foil it’s sort of game over. These boats are challenging at the bottom wind range”.

Sir Ben Ainslie, Skipper – INEOS Team UK “Tough day, particularly in lighter air we are struggling. There is certainly a lot for us to look at in terms of what went wrong. The other three teams are doing a much better job than we are, so we’ve got to figure that out pretty quickly. All boats stopped, some more than others”.

Hudson River Ice Yacht Club trophy found in New Zealand

RHINECLIFF- A Loving Cup Trophy from 1904 was found in the North Haven Hospice Thrift Shop in Mangawhai, New Zealand, by a woman who had never heard of ice yachting nor the Hudson River Club.  Debi Shwer of Auckland, New Zealand was visiting Mangawhai, when she stopped into a thrift shop there.  The Sterling Cup caught her eye, and she was determined to find out more.

Contacting HRIYPT President Robert Wills through the organization’s website, she described her objective of learning more about ice yachting after seeing the inscription on the trophy.

“I was just visiting my mother in law in Mangawhai for Easter.  I wish I had a better look around (the thrift shop) because I was on a time limit from my husband waiting in the car!  I am honestly fascinated by how it ended up in a charity shop in Northland New Zealand,” she said.

Shwer purchased the trophy and sent it to the club where it now sits as a part of their collection.  The club plans is to loan it to an appropriate institution this winter where it can be displayed.

The Trophy was awarded on March 5, 1904, to the yacht “Rainbow”, a Hyde Park Ice Yacht Club boat owned by Capt. Owen Roberts, for winning a ten-mile race for Fourth Class Boats.  Future President Franklin Roosevelt’s boat “Hawk” came in second.

“Rainbow” was recorded in club books in 1903, and then again in 1910.  It was built by George Buckhout, preeminent ice yacht builder, in Poughkeepsie.  Subsequently, Capt. Roberts sailed the boat in 1912 out of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat & Yacht Club in Red Bank, New Jersey, where it was outfitted with the most modern of hardware and sails, a “Marconi Rig” (the triangular sail used on most sailboats today), and renamed “Rainbow 2nd”.  It then disappears from the records, until it shows up in Wisconsin.

Recently offered for sale there, it was purchased by the Lawrence Family of Newburgh, New York, who have been competitive ice yacht racers and Hudson River Ice Yacht Club members for generations, and were instrumental in the restoration of “Jack Frost,” the 1880 multiple world champion ice yacht of Archibald Rogers of Hyde Park, New York, and still sailed today by the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club.

PARIS — Louis Vuitton is in a Barcelona state of mind.

Ahead of its cruise show in the Mediterranean port city on May 23, the French luxury brand has unveiled a capsule collection for women and men in honor of sailing’s biggest event, the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Barcelona.

The sporty line, set to land in stores and online from July 18, includes ready-to-wear, bags and accessories blending house emblems with bold colors and nautical codes.

Since then, the America’s Cup has only ever been held by three other nations: the United States, Switzerland and New Zealand. Vuitton and Barcelona go way back. Founded in 1854, the historic trunk maker participated in the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. Georges Vuitton, son of founder Louis, received a grand prize for his toiletry cases. The luxury brand opened its first Spanish store in 1987 in Barcelona, and now counts two locations in the Catalan capital, in addition to six leather goods workshops in the region that employ more than 1,800 people.

Michael Cohen testifies in Trump trial and orcas sink yacht off Spain: Morning Rundown

Michael Cohen could face cross-examination today in former President Donald Trump's hush money trial. A Jan. 6 rioter and a Capitol Police officer are on the ballot today. And a woman is working to regain movement after she said a punk rocker's stage dive left her seriously injured.

Michael Cohen returns to the stand to detail hush money payment

Donald Trump’s longtime fixer and lawyer Michael Cohen is back on the witness stand today in the former president’s hush money trial. Cohen is expected to delve into payments he said he received from Trump in return for hush money paid to adult film actor Stormy Daniels in the final days of the 2016 presidential campaign.

At the heart of yesterday’s testimony was a running theme: that Trump was personally aware of every step in the payments both to Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal — an allegation that prosecutors had failed thus far to show. Cohen told the jury that Trump directly authorized him to pay Daniels $130,000. Cohen said that he then paid Daniels with his own money, and that Allen Weisselberg, the former CFO of the Trump Organization, devised a plan to form an outside shell company to repay Cohen in installments that were listed as being for legal services provided under a retainer agreement. The defense, for weeks, has sought to puncture Cohen’s credibility with the jury, and witnesses have painted him as hot-headed, self-interested and untrustworthy. Expect more of that when cross-examination begins, as early as today. Here’s what else is in store today.

Troop movement seen by U.S. suggests Israel could expand Rafah operations soon

The U.S. has seen recent troop movement on the edge of Rafah, a city in southern Gaza, that indicates Israel could expand operations there soon, according to two officials. However, it is unclear whether Israel has made a final decision about when and how to proceed. It is also unclear whether a larger incursion into Rafah would be days or weeks away.

The U.S. continues to urge Israel not to go “smashing into” Rafah in a major offensive and to ensure appropriate humanitarian precautions, the second official said. Here’s what else we know.

Jan. 6, Senate matchups and party fights: What to watch in tonight’s primaries

Voters head to the polls in four states today for primaries that will set up key Senate races and settle other intraparty battles, including a race that features a Jan. 6 Capitol rioter and another featuring a police officer who battled the rioters that day. Maryland, West Virginia and Nebraska are holding primaries, and North Carolina is holding runoffs for races in which candidates didn’t win a majority of the vote in its March primaries. 

Trump’s endorsement is on the line in West Virginia, where he shaped the race to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin. And Trump is sure to notch two endorsement wins in North Carolina, where two of his preferred House candidates are the only ones left standing. 

On the ballot tonight is a familiar face for those who watched the testimony during the House’s investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol: former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, who is running in Maryland’s 3rd District. A Jan. 6th rioter, who pleaded guilty to a felony count of civil disorder, is posing a far-right challenge to congresswoman Carol Miller from West Virginia. 

Polls close at 7:30 p.m. ET in West Virginia and North Carolina, 8 p.m. ET in Maryland and 9 p.m. ET in Nebraska. Here are four things to watch.

Caitlin Clark ahead of her WNBA debut: ‘Soak in the moment’

All eyes will be on Caitlin Clark this evening when the biggest star of women’s basketball makes her pro debut. Clark’s Indiana Fever takes on the Connecticut Sun, where a sold-out crowd (and a national television audience) will witness the start of a new era for women’s sports. No women’s basketball player had previously received the kind of attention and adulation as Clark, the two-time national player of the year out of Iowa and college basketball’s all-time leading scorer.

“This is what you’ve worked for and dreamed of, and now you get to put your jersey on for the first time and go out there and play. More than anything, just soak in the moment,” Clark told members of the media over the weekend.

The WNBA is hopeful that Clark’s star appeal will translate to the pros, and it seems some changes are already afoot . For the first time (and not so coincidentally), women’s teams will fly charter for all games. And Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said the league is eyeing a monster TV deal next year.

On the eve of Clark’s pro debut, Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder announced her retirement after 24 years leading the Hawkeyes.

Russian political shake-up hints at Putin’s true focus

The removal of Sergei Shoigu as Russia’s defense minister is the most dramatic shake-up of the country’s military leadership since the war with Ukraine began more than two years ago. And, according to observers of the Kremlin, it shows that President Vladimir Putin is ready for a long fight with Ukraine and its Western allies.

Shoigu isn’t gone completely. He has been appointed secretary of Russia’s national security council, replacing another Putin ally who will be appointed to a new job that has yet to be announced. (Putin rarely fires people in his inner circle outright.) Replacing Shoigu will be 65-year-old Andrei Belousov, a civilian economist whose “unexpected but logical” appointment could offer insight into Putin’s war plans . With the war in its third year, the Kremlin needs to fully militarize not just Russian society, but also the country’s economy, analysts said.

Orcas sink yacht off Spain’s coast

An unknown number of orcas have sunk a yacht after ramming it in Moroccan waters in the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain’s maritime rescue service said yesterday, a new attack in what has become a trend in the past four years. The vessel, Alboran Cognac, which measured 49 feet in length and was carrying two people, encountered the highly social apex predators, also known as killer whales, on Sunday, the service said.

Those on board reported feeling sudden blows to the hull and rudder before water started seeping into the ship. After they alerted the rescue services, a nearby oil tanker took them onboard and transported them to Gibraltar.

The yacht was left adrift and eventually sank. The incident is the latest example of recurring orca rammings around the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Europe from Africa, and off the Atlantic coast of Portugal and northwestern Spain.

Woman recalls stage dive that left her severely injured

A 24-year-old woman is working to regain function in her fingers and toes after a singer’s stage dive at a punk rock concert left her severely injured. In an exclusive interview, Bird Piché detailed what she felt as Trophy Eyes frontman John Floreani leaped backward into the audience at the April 30 show — and onto Piché. “It was like his body and my neck,” she said. Her family said she was paralyzed when she went to the hospital but has since regained basic movements of her arms and legs. “I have a long road ahead, but I’m very optimistic right now,” Piché said.
