The Best Waterside Restaurants in Marigot, Saint Martin

Sail into Marigot and you wont have to go far for good food – stay by the coast at these waterside restaurants

Sailing around the French side of Saint Martin reveals a bounty of fine-dining restaurants for hungry travelers, as well as a collection of beachfront lolos (open-air barbecue joints) cooking large portions of lobster, chicken, rice and peas outdoors on large grills. Fine French cuisine abounds, but hearty Creole options such as conch stew are also prevalent on this quieter side of the Caribbean island. Here’s where to drop anchor in Marigot .

Explore more beautiful spots in the Caribbean by going on a sailing adventure in the Bahamas or British Virgin Islands.

La Petite Auberge des Îles

Tucked into a corner of the Marigot marina, this hideaway restaurant serves Cajun Creole cuisine with a touch of French finesse. The brightly colored tablecloths and murals of local landscapes are rivaled only by the cool breezes and delicious dishes including grilled lobster with creole sauce. This is a laid-back spot to enjoy a secluded meal amid moored yachts and boats sailing in and out of the marina.

Open since 1978, this lolo on the Marigot waterfront serves hearty Creole food with a hint of Jamaica. The white plastic tables and chairs are covered with brightly colored vinyl tablecloths, and diners are often treated to spontaneous live music out front as people break out drums and dance moves. From curried goat to conch creole, every dish is served with rice and beans, a salad and Rosemary’s wide smile – you’ll find her at the grill most days.

La Terrasse Rooftop

yacht club restaurant marigot

Sister restaurant to popular La Cigale, this chic dining option sits atop the West Indies Mall. It overlooks Marigot Bay with open-air seating and panoramic views of boats sailing in and out. The French-focused menu includes delicacies such as oeufs cocotte (a baked-egg appetizer), roasted duck with tangy raspberry sauce and house-made profiteroles to finish. The wine list is extensive and the craft cocktails pair with the swaying palms and pastel sunsets perfectly.

Le Tropicana

This quaint bistro on the Marigot marina has glam waterside views and an equally luxurious, French-focused menu. Indoor seating is available, but tables on the terrace offer front-row seats to the glorious play of fiery sunsets over the water. The escargot in puff pastry and niçoise salad are superb, but seafood items such as the dover sole meunière are the stars. Save room for classic French pastries including silky chocolate mousse with sky-high tuiles . Every plate is a feast for the eyes and the stomach.

Enoch’s Place

Only open for breakfast and lunch, this lolo at the waterfront Marigot Market serves all the signature Saint Martin dishes. Creole and Caribbean specialties such as saltfish, stewed conch and fried johnnycakes (cornmeal flatbreads) are first-come, first-served, so get there early. Outdoor furniture is arranged under the canvas awning for optimal communal dining. This is the spot to catch up on local gossip and grab an authentic Saint Martin meal.

Another casual lolo on the waterfront, this grill spot features brightly colored vinyl tablecloths covered by a canvas roof, plus a few seats at the bar and ample portions of Creole food. The stewed oxtail is tender, the creole conch is spicy, and everything comes with rice and peas, lettuce, tomato, potato salad and fried plantain. Nothing is fancy, but everything is local and home-made.

O Plongeoir

Overlooking the Marina Fort Louis yacht club, this casual, nautical-themed spot has a prime view of sailboats and yachts bobbing on the water against a backdrop of Anguilla in the distance. There are French specialties such as moules frites (steamed mussels with French fries), bountiful fresh seafood served as tartares, ceviche and filets, plus a variety of daily specials. The wine list is large, and desserts such as tarte tatin will satisfy any sweet tooth.

Jetties of craggy rock extending into turquoise water are the backdrop of this Nettle Bay Beach Club spot. Diners can opt for inside seating or one of the pergola-covered picnic tables on the sand. Everything on the Italian menu is home-made. There’s a wide selection of pizzas with white or red sauce, small bites including burrata with heart-shaped bresaola , fortifying mains such as duck breast with morels, and creamy tiramisu for dessert. If you’re heading back to your boat, grab a pizza to go.

Restaurant Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Great spot under new management, quiet, relaxed with a beautiful view. Appetizers were delicious (ravioli bites and accras, were some of the best we ever had) CBT Brisket melted in the mouth, bavette and burgers were equally top notch, fresh and properly prepared. Giulio, the... new chef is attentive and aimed to please, he makes sure his customers are happy We wish him much success in his business! More

Great service, great view and excellent food. We will return for sure! We had the ceviche, ravioli bites, brisket and mahi with purple risotto that was outstanding. Then the dessert which we may have been too full for but could not resist. So glad we... found our way here. More

After getting off the ferry, we walked over to this restaurant for an easy bite to eat. It is right on the water so the evening view was amazing and it wasn’t busy on a Tuesday evening. The delicious pizza and calzone were better than... the USA. More

Terrible pizza’s! Nice looking restaurant nearby the harbour. Friendly welcome to start, after our order for two pizza’s they lost interest. Pizza’s were terrible and the worst we ever had. Never came to ask if we wanted another drink of if our food was oké.... Very sorry but don’t recommend this place. More

Great panini and friends had Chicken piccata. Said it was best ever. Had to refrain them from licking the plate.

Great setting, lovely waitstaff and excellent food. What more can you ask for. Definitely will return on our next trip to Sam. Convenient on the street parking. Beautiful sunsets.

While driving around the island of Saint Martin/Sant Maarten we arrived in Marigot right around lunch time and were attracted by a lovely establishment right on the edge of the marina, as we were entering the town driving South. Parked on the side-walk as locals... do and proceeded to enter the Yacht Club Restaurant. We were graciously greeted by a lady who led us to a table right on the edge of the terrace overlooking the blue-green waters of the Marina. We noticed a lot of locals eating there which is always a good sign if you want to avoid tourist traps. We ordered a couple of glasses of ice-cold Provence rosé and ordered a plate of Accras which is a specialty in the French Antilles. They're basically made of cod-fish deep fried bites served with a spicy "sauce chien" literally "dog sauce"!!! don't worry the dog is only in the name, it's basically a tasty spicy Chutney. As main courses my wife had a Tuna Tartar with shrimp Tempura and more accras which was delicious. I had ordered a rib-eye cooked on a plancha with peppercorn sauce, served with crispy french fries, the whole dish together on a lager tile made out of slate. The service was prompt, friendly and efficient, the food was well prepared and served in a timely manner. Basically a lovely place serving lovely food with a smile which is not always the case in French restaurants. Highly recommended if in Marigot. More

Being from Washington DC, we're savvy to good service and food. Upon entering, a nearly empty restaurant without a reservation, the host attempted to seat us away from everyone else at a terrible table without a view of the yachts and marina. When I said... no thank you and refused the table i said," that's OK we'll go somewhere else"...a reserved table became available. The pasta is ok, the menu somewhat limited. The goat cheese salad is ample enough to share and delicious! A large table of 20+ people came in and it was a free for all calling out orders for their table, rushed and disorganized. We were full, but dessert wasn't offered. The evening was very transactional and we left feeling duped. Remember service is included on the French side. When I asked if tip was included the waiter/host gave me the correct answer, but never mentioned service was included. Great view and decent food. If you go, remember the staff should provide a good experience not attitude. Good luck. More

This restaurant had amazing sunset views of the marina! I was after some lobster and I was kind of disappointed when we got there and they told me that their tank was broken so none was available....What that being said & done I ended up... having the Beef Carpaccio and it was to die for!! Amazingly delicious and the presentation of their food was beautiful as well. The service was OK but it could have been a lot better in my opinion.... More

Perfect food at reasonable prices. We had salat, veal and paninis, all very good. Nice location overlooking the harbour. Friendly staff.

After passing this restaurant dozens of times, we finally decided to visit. Beautiful setting, delicious food, friendly service! They offered several seafood specials and had a decent drink/wine selection. The food was tasty but what makes this restaurant so nice is the location on the... water. Picturesque Caribbean sunsets! More

We arrived at this restaurant after driving to Grand Case and the restaurant we intended to go to, Spiga, was closed. We determined we wanted to do something different and had never dined in Marigot. The location of this restaurant is awesome. It sits right... on the dock overlooking the Yacht Club and the beautiful vessels that are in it. On arrival, we ordered drinks which were good and we were offered menus. The specials were offered in English which was very much appreciated. Unfortunately, we were never offered the wine list nor were we offered water. We asked Darrell who was NOT the original server for the wine list and ordered a nice Bordeaux. Actually it was the most expensive red on the list. We were fortunate in that the power went out in the town of Marigot. Yes, we found it very fortunate as it really provided a very romantic atmosphere. Fortunately we ordered our meals early enough before the power went out. Just for the record, a whole town power outage is very rare. Our meals arrived shortly after the lights went out. We ate our meals in subtle light, which we found very romantic as we sat along the dock looking at the yachts in the moon light. My wife had the menu Bolognese and I decided to have the special French rib eye with creole sauce. Both were excellent! The service from Darell was excellent but we thought we should not need to ask for water nor the wine list . We would both unequivocally recommend going to this restaurant but would ask that as they engage customers a little more diligently on arrival. Darrell did an excellent job and we very much appreciated his service and his friendly attitude. Remember Darrell, at least in the United States, very dry means very little dry vermouth 🙂 More

Was introduced to this place by an Italian friend who said that they had the best Pizza on the island...and I have to agree! Everyone I have brought here says so as well, but the rest of the menu should be tried too. Simple, good... Italian food in a lovely waterfront setting in the marina. Great parking and friendly service make this a no brainer for a no fuss feeding. I try not to go every week, but have failed...maybe again tonight... More

My boyfriend and I went here to get a drink before dinner. We ordered a cocktail during the happy hour listed on their menu, but the waitress told us that the second drink (for free because of happy hour) would come without alcohol.... Doesn't seem... overly happy to me. And she did not come back to our table even though we first wanted the menu, and then just wanted to get out and get the bill. We left what we thought was the appropriate amount of money (plus a little tip) on the table and went to find a restaurant where they would attend us. At that point, the waitress came running after us to inform us that we owed an extra dollar or two because the cost that we were expecting from the menu was in Euros. Finally, she could be bothered! Overall, not a pleasant experience. More

The sunset views are not to be missed. And the food and service were phenomenal too! We each had nice cocktails & entrees****

A long-awaited restaurant opens in iconic spot on the Connecticut River

The long-awaited Tate’s restaurant has opened its doors along Middletowns’s iconic riverfront.

The large restaurant and bar space, located at 80 Arbor St., sits inside the former Mattabesett Canoe Club that closed in 2021. The building, which for decades was home to the former Harbor Park restaurant and Middletown Yacht Club, was built in 1930, according to the city. Tate’s owners and husband-wife duo Aubrey and Rocco LaMonica, who also own the popular Eli Cannon’s Tap Room downtown and Noah’s at 63 Main in Essex, celebrated the re-opening of the well-known spot on Monday.

“We’re very relieved to be open today, it’s been over three years since we put the bid in for this building,” Rocco LaMonica. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Initially, the restaurant was expected to open by May 2022, according to LaMonica. But several hurdles, including a rising price tag and extensive flood mitigation efforts, pushed back the opening by a few years. The building would routinely flood every spring as warm temperatures melted snow and swelled the banks of the Connecticut River. The city gutted portions of the building and made significant renovations, including installing concrete flooring on the lower level to prevent flood damage.

“This building about a year and a half ago was completely down to the studs,” Rocco LaMonica said. “It was a major renovation project and redesign. We really made the building our own.”

As customers enter Tate’s they are greeted with a spacious dining area and bar on the first floor. Inside, plants, flowers, bright murals and walls lined with faux-green leaves give a feeling of growth and vibrancy.

The bar area, with seating for 24, features several large windows that offer a wrap around view of the Connecticut River. The indoor restaurant and bar has seating for around 120, according to LaMonica. Outside, a patio area with exterior bar is set to be completed by Memorial Day weekend. The outdoor area, once completed, will seat around 100 people.

“I didn’t want people to walk in here and not feel like they are on the river anymore,” said co-owner Aubrey Lamonica, who helped design the new space. “The greenery is really just a connection to the outside and the windows offer that feeling of being on the river all the time.”

Tate’s second and third floors are reserved for banquets and events such as weddings, baby showers, and small dinners or parties. The upstairs floors will be limited to around 150 people, according to LaMonica.

“We have already received several inquiries, which is wild because we just opened,” said Aubrey LaMonica. “The space upstairs is really large and we just wanted to bring an event space that is simple enough for any occasion.”

Tate’s logo, a black frog with the letter “T” incorporated into the design, is a nod to the nature along the riverfront.

“I wanted an animal that wasn’t a fish or something that would be confused with the ocean, I really wanted it to be reflective of the river itself,” said Aubrey LaMonica. “I found myself landing on a frog because it’s a creature that can live in and out of the water, sort of like this building does. So it became this reflection of what we want to do here.”

With Tate’s opening, a crucial component of the Return to the Riverbend master plan for redevelopment is now complete; the restaurant serves as the anchor along the riverfront. The ambitious plan aims to revitalize Middletown’s riverfront over the next few decades.

“It’s part of our culture here to have that restaurant along the river, so we’re really excited that we’re now going to have Tate’s there with a patio for people to sit by the river and eat,” said Middletown Director of Economic and Community Development Christine Marques. “To our redevelopment master plan, Tate’s is very important, the location really anchors that part of the riverfront. We’re very excited about the opening.”

Fresh seafood for the whole family

Tate’s focuses on casual seafood offerings made fresh inside a family-friendly atmosphere.

Executive Chef Jeff Gorski, a longtime friend of the LaMonicas, worked at Westbrook Lobster for 10 years and has extensive experience around seafood. Gorski, who also worked at the more upscale Noah’s in Essex, said that he wants to make sure Tate’s is accessible to families.

“Westbrook Lobster was family oriented and casual seafood. Tate’s will be similar fare but a little more upscale.” Gorski said. “Tate’s whole concept is to be on the water and bring your family or come here for your first date night. Just a nice and comfortable place to be. Nothing that feels intimidating.”

So far among the more popular offerings is marinated tuna nachos with fried wonton chips.

“They’re marinated in soy and lime and we top them with some diced cucumbers and avocados,” Gorski said. “We then drizzle them with a soyaki glaze and sriracha crème fraîche. So it’s sweet and salty with some spice as well. It’s a very flavorful dish.”

Tate’s also features classic seafood fare like oysters, steamer clams, clam strips, fried whole-belly clams and fried shrimp dishes along with several varieties of fish. For those that don’t like seafood, Tate’s offers burgers, chicken sliders and a mango sesame chicken wrap among its other offerings.

“I’m a fan of this black Mahi-Mahi dish that we’re serving,” Gorski said. “It’s got a nice Spanish yellow rice with a red pepper coulis. The fish has blackened seasoning on it and we top that with a mango pineapple salsa and avocado with some toasted coconut. We’re trying to keep it simple but also trying to jazz up the dishes and put a little twist on them.”

For those looking for more sweet than savory, the south side of the building will feature an AL’s Ice Cream Shoppe takeout window, which is expected to be completed soon. Middletown’s beloved Perkatory Coffee Roasters will supply coffee. A snack shop called Dragon Shack, with hot dogs, hamburgers and similar fare, will be run by Middletown High School students and located on the north side of the structure. The idea, the LaMonicas, said is to get people outside by the river and create a sense of community.

Tate’s is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday’s from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information on the menu offerings and for booking events go to www.tatesmiddletown.com
