The Hood 26E is a fully electric runabout with a modified vee hull and an efficient retractable outdrive for shallow waters.

We created an easily driven, comfortable and dry hull, coupled with a robust Konrad duo prop outdrive unit and two Lithium ION batteries. Her carbon fiber hull is instantly propelled to 42 knots top.

Being high-tech and electric does not mean a boat has to look like a spaceship or flying boat. We opted for a timeless, New England style that will turn heads.

She has a leaning post with storage, cooler below and full width aft bench seat. Other seating options available.

C.W. Hood Yachts recently launched the first truly New England inspired, fully electric center console.

The beautiful Hood 26E was conceived, designed and built right here in Marblehead. Chris Hood and chief designer David Robison set out to create a vessel that looked more like a classic yacht than a spaceship.

The carbon fiber hull and deck are rock solid yet light as a feather, and its current gray primer finish will soon be completed Awlgrip, with a handy swim platform, powder-coated rails, custom cushions and of course, dual Yeti coolers for summer excursions. 

The only wood is the stylish teak console top adding classic appeal, a boat with the perfect balance of low maintenance, durability and beauty.

Her electric propulsion is silent, easily charged, and all monitored from the helm or your smart phone. Two silent electric motors drive a single duo-prop inboard / outboard drive, delivering jaw-dropping acceleration, full control around the dock, and the ability to be trimmed up out of the way at the beach.

Marblehead Harbor has been our center for testing so far, with runs to Manchester and Gloucester. Data is still being collected on speeds, range and charging times, etc., and will be available soon.

What we do know is she is fun, fast and quiet – with a top speed of 42 knots.

Ted grew up in Marblehead, MA, and found himself on the water from the day he was born. His father, Ted – a man of many talents, to say the least – routinely recruited Ted and his two brothers to race offshore at a very young age – creating certain maternal concerns, but providing a wonderful experience and opportunity for father/son “bonding.” Summer jobs while at school included sanding boat bottoms, sailmaking and apprentice draftsmanship. Ted also designed and built his own sailboard and ocean rowing shell, recalling how he once found Airex foam and fir strapping under the Christmas tree. This sparked a passion for furniture making and carpentry that he continues to enjoy today.

Following graduation from Brown University with an engineering degree, Ted began work at the Little Harbor design office as a draftsman for two years before moving on to marketing and business management responsibilities for the sale and construction of new Little Harbor yachts. After completing an MBA program in 1996, Ted decided on a career change of sorts by becoming a full-time yacht broker.

During the last twenty-four years, Ted has been involved in the sale of a wide variety of yachts, ranging in size from small express boats to several sailing yachts over 100′. He has also become involved in the conception and sale of several new construction projects with many reputable builders, including a 92’ and 108’ sailing yacht. Says Ted, “I thoroughly enjoy the direct contact I have with clients – listening to their needs, offering advice and following their adventures around the world. I personally feel that as a true “yacht consultant,” it is vital to preview boats for sale and to inspect potential builders whenever possible, requiring frequent travel throughout the U.S., Caribbean, Europe and New Zealand.”

His diverse sailing experience includes two trans-Atlantic races, numerous other offshore races in Europe and the U.S. and One-Design racing. He has also enjoyed countless cruises with family and friends throughout New England and the Caribbean and remains active racing today on large mega-yachts, cruiser/racers and one-designs (including Lasers during the winter in Newport). Ted is the Managing Director of Wellington Yacht Partners and lives in Newport, RI, with his wife Anne, while his two children are fully ensconced in their new careers. Other distractions for Ted include skiing, hiking, swimming, biking and carpentry.

Founder Chris Hood, nephew of The late legendary Frederick E. “Ted” Hood continues on with the family legacy, in the place where it all began, “Little Harbor” Marblehead, MA. Known for building iconic power-cruisers, and reviving an iconic Maine boat building company Jarvis Newman. Things changed on a particularly cold New England night from a quick sketch, CW Hood Yachts took a turn closer to its family’s roots with the Hood 32 classic daysailer. Eventually becoming Sail Magazine 2011 Daysailer of the Year . With a 154 D/L and with a 4.72 L/B, this true modern composite constructed classic daysailer is of moderate displacement with a very narrow beam, reminiscent, of when classic one design little yachts were constructed by the legendary yacht designers such as a Bjarne Aas, W. Starling Burgess, A.E. Luders, Sr. and Jr., and C. Raymond Hunt, the International 110’s and 210’s.

One day Chris Hood received a call from someone wanting to give him a drafting table, with no need for another table, Chris politely declined. Then the caller asked “are you the last of the Hood’s living in Marblehead”, Chris replied yes I am, with that the caller said you may be interested to know that this drafting table once belonged to L. Francis Herreshoff, and I am one of the heirs and would like you to have this drafting table. Needless to say the future looks bright from the drawing boards of CW Hood Yachts.

Gloucester man, 65, found dead after boat crash off Salem coast

A boat was found on the rocky coast of little misery island.

Officials recovered the body of a 65-year-old man after a boat was discovered lodged against the rocky shoreline of Little Misery Island off the coast of Salem on Saturday. The search included multiple harbormasters and the US Coast Guard, officials said Sunday evening.

The man was identified Tuesday as John Masiz of Gloucester, according to Sharyn Lubas, a spokesperson for the Essex district attorney’s office. She said the death remains under investigation pending an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office.

Bill McHugh, Salem’s harbormaster, said Sunday that his team helped recover the body.

“We recovered the boat and we recovered the owner,” McHugh said Sunday evening.

Searchers found Masiz’s body after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Lubas said. She said no foul play was suspected, but the death remains under investigation. The reason for the boat’s crash remains unclear.

Tim Peters, owner of TowBoatUS in Boston and northern Massachusetts, said his company was still working to clear the wreckage on Sunday evening, and he was not sure how long the effort would take. Peters said crews had spent the day recovering parts of the vessel.

“Mother Nature kind of took care of a lot of the wreck removal, so we’re just retrieving chunks,” he said. “When the weather allows, we’ll go and recover what’s left.”

Peters said the initial call came in around 5 p.m. Saturday, after someone spotted the vessel and called the Coast Guard. He said the search operation took priority over clearing the wreckage Saturday evening.

He said the side of Little Misery on which the boat is lodged is exposed to easterly weather, which can be harsh.

“We’re just doing what we can with the conditions,” he said. “There was a pretty good swell today, actually more than we had yesterday; that’s what really broke up the boat: the wave action just pounding this thing against the rocks.”

Little Misery Island is owned by the Trustees of Reservations, a historic preservation and land conservation nonprofit. The 4-acre isle sits off the southern shoreline of 83-acre Great Misery Island.

It was named for a terrible experience endured by a 1620s shipbuilder, Captain Robert Moulton, who was stranded on the island for three days in a winter storm.
