1993 Whitebread Racing Sailboat ‘Yamaha’ was the overall class winning Whitbread 60 in the 1993 Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race.  She was skippered by Ross Fields and at the end of the race she was taken to California where she became the basis of the America’s Challenge campaign for the 1997 race. After the campaign’s new boat was built; Yamaha was used very little; by 2001 she had all but stopped sailing and went into a long storage period.  Essentially therefore this boat has only sailed a few thousand miles since winning the 1993 race.  9 months ago that storage period ended and Yamaha had $20,000 of work done on her underwater sections to prepare her for a new operational life.  Work was begun on the interior repainting the yellowing Kevlar/epoxy interior into a fresher shade of white, new batteries were bought, the main engine and generator’s 175amp 24v Alternators were rebuilt by Lewco in Long Beach, the engine bay was cleaned and the main engine and generator overhauled, the electrical system was checked through by a professional and the sail inventory unpacked. All this preparation was ahead of the boat being brought round to the Atlantic with another Whitbread 60 to become part of a new race charter organization (www.spartanoceanracing.com) but as it was there was only time to prepare and move one boat in the available timeframe and so Yamaha was left in San Pedro which is a great environment for this kind of boat being very dry, with low humidity. The plan is to return to California next season and bring her South to the Panama Canal and on to the Caribbean as we did with our other Whitbread 60 this summer. We offer here for sale only to create options for ourselves as a new start up company.  An opportunity exists for a new owner to allow us to charter the vessel each year at an agreed price thereby creating  an income for themselves whilst still owning one of the world’s most famous offshore racing boats.  If you want to learn more about this boat contact the agent and they will put you in contact with me Chris Stanmore-Major the current owner of the boat and I can talk you through the details.

Reconditioned Artekno h28 race boat for sale: $6995.00 The h28 has been in production since the mid-1970s. The current European fleet numbers in excess of 6000 class boats that have been built by four yards over the years. If you Google Artekno h28 you will find pictures and videos showing how well the boat performs and why it continues to be an active fleet. With a fine entry and narrow beam the boat works well to windward and moves easily in light air. While the boat races with a crew of three it is easily sailed by a single sailor. The boat is currently set up for singlehanded daysailing. Halyards are led aft to the cockpit and all mainsail shaping controls—boomvang, outhaul, and Cunningham—are controlled at the aft end of the boom. The main sheeting system is on top of a new Lewmar #2 traveler mounted on a stainless steel mid-cockpit bridge that includes a new Edson grab bar. The main is new and is integrated into a Tides Track System®. The new low stretch jib sheets lead to new Lewmar #16 self-tailing winches. The headstay sports a Harken foil with luff tape feeder. Current auxiliary power is delivered by a Minnkota 55# thrust electric trolling motor. With ice chest, fenders, shore power, new dock lines, rewired 12 volt system with new battery and lifelines with stanchions and pulpits, the boat is ready to go sailing. The Able Poitin was a racing boat made by Bob Evelyn just a year before the J24 came out and was built to be a fast offshore racer. Been stored indoors until the last month, now stored at fresh water lake. Very easy boat to sail by yourself, I sail by myself all the time. US Sailing settles federal lawsuit against former members, America One Racing

BRISTOL, R.I. — US Sailing has settled its federal lawsuit against veteran sailor and executive Paul Cayard and the America One Racing foundation, the sport’s governing body announced on Wednesday.

Specific details of the settlement have not been released to the public, but America One Racing said in a statement that no money changed hands. Both parties agreed to release all claims, and established a mutual non-disparagement agreement.

The US Sailing Association, which is based in Bristol, R.I., filed a complaint in US District Court in January, accusing American yachtsmen Paul Cayard, Jose Spina, William Ruh, and America One of harming the US Sailing team and the association’s governing team.

Cayard, one of the United States’ most successful sailors, resigned as executive director of the US Olympic Sailing Team in February 2023. He told The Associated Press then that he couldn’t work under a restructuring that would have him focus on fundraising while someone else ran the team. When he left, many donors followed him or paused pledges to the national governing body.

Ruh also joined America One Racing as a member of its board of directors, while Spina was hired as its performance director.

America One Racing had been a partner and financial supporter of US Sailing but switched its focus to directly supporting athletes. US Sailing had sought damages from America One Racing and its three principals, including Cayard, in its lawsuit.

Dropping the lawsuit removes a major distraction that had overshadowed the once-dominant American squad that has won just one medal in the last three Olympics.

Medalists Anna Tobias and JJ Fetter criticized US Sailing for suing one of sailing’s biggest financial supporters.

In late February, Fetter, a two-time Olympic medalist, called for the resignations of US Sailing’s CEO, president and any other board member who supported the lawsuit.

Professional sailor and coach Tony Rey resigned from the board in the wake of the lawsuit, saying he was starting a new career opportunity within the sailing industry and that while he supported the litigation, “the controversy that continues to reverberate on the ground will not be helpful to my career.”

Tobias, the last American to win an Olympic sailing gold medal, at the 2008 Beijing Games, emailed US Sailing president Richard Jepsen and board members on April 24 asking them to drop the lawsuit. She called it “a frivolous and embarrassing side show for US Sailing” and “a distraction from the goals.”

“Let’s broker peace and get the USA Olympic program back to a level where my name is in the history books and not the last USA sailing Gold Medal winner,” her email concluded.

Tobias said she was so convinced that the US team was on the right track under Cayard’s leadership and America One’s financial support that she gave up her job as coach for the ILCA 6 squad in the middle of the current quad and tried to make the team. She lost at the trials.

The lawsuit had also accused America One of breaching a contract to fund a project with US Sailing to assist in developing young athletes for Olympic-level competition. US Sailing launched “Project Pipeline” in 2015 with a $5 million gift from the America One Foundation. In their suit, US Sailing claimed that America One was obligated to pay $5 million over a 10-year period in annual installments. In March 2023, America One told the association it would stop making those payments, alleging it lacked “confidence” in US Sailing’s ability to carry out the project’s mission.

In January, America One Foundation chairman Lawrence G. Finch called US Sailing’s claims “meritless,” “unfathomable,” and that his company was being “targeted as a scapegoat” for the association’s “shortfalls in supporting American sailors.” Finch said the company had directed $6 million to US Sailing over the last 15 years.

In an embarrassment on the English Channel in 2012, the United States failed to win an Olympic sailing medal for the first time since the 1936 Berlin Games. San Diego’s Caleb Paine won a bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, but the Americans were shut out again three summers ago in Tokyo and have been overtaken by Britain on the sailing medals table.

Thirteen sailors will represent the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games .

SAN DIEGO (AP) — U.S. Sailing has settled its federal lawsuit against veteran sailor and executive Paul Cayard and the America One Racing foundation, the sport’s governing body announced on Wednesday.

Dropping the lawsuit removes a major distraction that had overshadowed the once-dominant American squad that has won just one medal in the last three Olympics.

The governing body, which had been criticized by medalists Anna Tobias and JJ Fetter for suing one of sailing’s biggest financial supporters, didn’t release specifics of the settlement.

America One Racing said in a statement that no money changed hands, both parties agreed to release all claims and established a mutual non-disparagement agreement.
