PHOENIX 2 Motor yacht for sale

With her owner-inspired shimmering Art Deco interiors and Manhattan-style glamour, together with Winch Design, PHOENIX 2 dazzles inside and out with the promise of legendary entertainment. You’ve arrived.

With her owner-inspired shimmering Art Deco interiors and Manhattan-style glamour, together with Winch Design, PHOENIX 2 dazzles inside and out with the promise of legendary entertainment. You can almost see Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan foxtrotting around the gilt-and-black lacquer Steinway in the main deck ballroom. A grand dining table is overlooked by the swinging six-piece jazz band in custom-made gold bas-relief murals as a crystal chandelier dazzles overhead with fine wines from the sommelier room next door. You’ve arrived.

New York and its skyline were the inspiration for this yacht’s styling, from the Empire State skyscrapers on the bar stools in the sky lounge bar, lit by uplighters reminiscent of the torch held by the Statue of Liberty, to the firebird figurehead that looks as if it may have flown in from the Chrysler Building. Everything, from the door handles to the cutlery, is hand-made, each a work of art in its own right.

From the ballroom, move aft past the full-height windows, circular lounge and onto the aft deck, where a spiral staircase leads up to the upper deck and the emphasis on good times continues. Past the buffet lounge is a winter garden with guest dining in open air or climate control, as conditions dictate, then continue down the boardwalk-style sidedecks to the jacuzzi lounge.

After a night of revelry, head to the bridge deck. Take the rivetted-aluminium spiral staircase or the elevator, which runs from the tank deck, home to the Radio City-inspired cinema with popcorn maker, to the bridge deck, and you’ll find a gym overlooking the aft helipad (there is a second on the foredeck). Sweat it out in the hammam or have a massage in the beauty salon. After that, the sun deck beckons, with its 7m (23ft) oval pool with skylights filtering natural light into the lobby below. Then soak up the sun or snooze in the shade on the sunpads and sun lounges.

To get ashore, take the elevator to the lower deck lobby where one of two 10m (32.8ft) tenders is waiting to take you wherever you want to go. For using an armada of watertoys however, the place to be is the 4m (13.1ft)-deep swim platform, complete with hydraulic bathing steps.

The full-beam owner’s suite, forward on the main deck, is similarly bewitching. Accessed from the main deck or via a glass spiral staircase from the owner’s private observation lounge and office on the upper deck. The circular sweep of the windows and their wraparound views is echoed in the black circle in the carpet and the recessed lighting overhead. A spectacular his-and-hers bathrooms in contrasting marbles features a bath and a steam shower and one of the walk-in wardrobes can be concealed should her new owner wish to operate her commercially.

With a range of 6,000nm and Quantum stabilisers, this impeccably maintained 2,667GT yacht, defies limits on what is possible.

The largest yachts owned by tech billionaires, from Mark Zuckerberg to Jeff Bezos

  • Megayachts have become a status symbol for the richest of the rich.
  • In recent years, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have splurged on enormous boats.
  • These are the biggest yachts owned by tech billionaires.

Insider Today

The average Joe celebrating a personal renaissance after, say, the end of a long-term relationship or when approaching a fresh decade might commemorate it with an ankle tattoo or a sports car. But if you're a billionaire, you may instead spend hundreds of millions on a yacht .

A few years after he and his wife divorced, Jeff Bezos shelled out on a megayacht. Last year, Bezos debuted the 127-meter vessel "Koru," a Māori symbol that signifies a fresh start — perhaps referring to that with his fiancée Lauren Sanchez.

Earlier this year, just before his 40th birthday, Mark Zuckerberg became the rumored owner of a yacht originally built for a Russian oligarch.

Superyachts have increasingly become ultrawealthy status symbols , providing highly secluded leisure and networking sites. They are — even more so than real estate — the single most expensive asset you can own.

"It's a bit of a celebration of your success in life, of wealth," Giovanna Vitelli, the chair of the Azimut Benetti Group, the world's biggest producer of superyachts, told Business Insider.

While many tech billionaires have bought yachts, the richest of the rich, like Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison, have gone bigger. Their boats are virtual palaces at sea, decked with amenities like gyms, spas, pools, nightclubs, and movie theaters.

A look at these megayachts — broadly defined as over 70 meters long, mostly custom-built, and often costing nine figures — offers a glimpse into how the .00001% lives. It's something few others will ever get to experience. Even chartering a yacht of this size for a week typically costs upwards of $1 million.

One major thing that hundreds of millions of dollars can buy is privacy. There are likely yachts that have not been publicly recorded or registered — for example, Evan Spiegel is rumored to own the 94-meter megayacht Bliss. In an industry ruled by discretion , deciphering who owns what is typically an exercise in stringing together many clues.

Here are the largest yachts owned by tech billionaires, listed in order of length.

Jeff Bezos: Koru and Abeona

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Amazon founder Bezos' $500 million megayacht, the 127-meter Koru, made a splash last year as she crisscrossed the Mediterranean in her first summer at sea, with her 75-meter support vessel Abeona in tow.

The sailing yacht, which is hard to miss thanks to her massive size and unique design, was host to Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez's famous friends . The couple held an engagement party on board, which reportedly drew guests including Bill Gates, Ari Emanuel, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Just a week later, they were seen on the streets of Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, and Usher.

Even before her completion, Koru made headlines. She drew the ire of some Dutch people, who vowed to hurl eggs after she was announced a historic bridge in Rotterdam might be taken apart to allow the Oceanco boat through. Luckily, the shipyard made alternative plans, and an egg crisis was averted.

Among yacht world insiders , Koru is widely praised for her craftsmanship.

"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," one superyacht expert told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."

Mark Zuckerberg: Launchpad

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Earlier this year, the yacht world was rife with rumors that Zuckerberg purchased Launchpad, a 118-meter superyacht originally designed for a sanctioned Russian businessman.

The ship made her maiden voyage in March, going from Gibraltar to St. Maarten and mooring in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Little is known about her interior, but photos show a large swimming pool and helipad. Her price, too, has been kept under wraps but is said to be nine figures.

Eric Schmidt: Whisper

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt made waves last year when he agreed to buy the Alfa Nero , the yacht of a sanctioned Russian oligarch, for $67 million in an auction conducted by Antigua and Barbuda. But he backed out of the deal following legal issues over her true owner. He quietly purchased Kismet instead. The 95-meter-long Lürssen-built boat was formerly owned by the Jacksonville Jaguar's billionaire owner Shahid Khan . Schmidt renamed her Whisper.

The ship can fit 12 guests and a crew of 28, according to Moran Yacht & Ship, which oversaw her construction. She features a master deck with a private jacuzzi, full-service spa, lap pool, movie theater, and outdoor fireplace.

While her final sale price was not public, she was listed for 149 million euros (about $161 million at current exchange rates), and at a charity auction in January, one week aboard the ship went for $2.4 million, according to industry outlet Yacht Charter Fleet.

Barry Diller: Eos

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Barry Diller , the chairman of digital media company IAC, co-owns the megayacht Eos with his wife, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg , who is immortalized by a figurehead sculpture by Anh Duong.

One of the largest private sailing yachts in the world, the three-masted Lürssen schooner measures 93 meters long. She took three years to be built before being delivered to Diller in 2009, and since then, little has come to light about her interior and features.

The power couple has hosted many celebrities on the Eos, which spends her summers crisscrossing the Mediterranean and New Year ' s Eve in St. Barts . Over the years, guests have included Oprah Winfrey, Emma Thompson, Anderson Cooper, and Bezos, leading some to believe she provided inspiration for his Koru.

Jim Clark: Athena

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Netscape founder Jim Clark purchased the 90-meter sailing yacht Athena in 2004.

"I could easily have built a 50- or 60-meter motor yacht that would have had the same space as Athena, but I was never really interested in building a motor yacht," he told Boat International in 2016. "To my eye, she's one of the most gorgeous large sailing yachts, maybe the most gorgeous large sailing yacht in the world."

Athena has room for 10 guests and 21 crewmembers, and the only change Clark says he'd make in her design is adding more space for his kids.

"If I was forced to change something, I would convert the office on the lower deck into a children's room," he said.

The former Stanford professor tried to sell her at various points — listing her for $95 million in 2012 , $69 million in 2016, and $59 million in 2017 — but she has yet to change hands.

Larry Ellison: Musashi

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Oracle founder Larry Ellison has owned several superyachts over the years, including the Katana, the Ronin, and the Rising Sun — which he sold to fellow billionaire David Geffen .

He purchased his current boat, Musashi, in 2011 for a reported $160 million from custom-yacht giant Feadship.

Named after a famous samurai warrior, the 88-meter-long yacht has both Japanese and Art Deco-inspired design elements. She also boasts amenities including an elevator, swimming pool, beauty salon, gym, and basketball court.

Ellison is known for his extravagant spending — private islands, jets, a tennis tournament — and yachting is among his favorite and most expensive hobbies. He took up racing them in the 1990s and financed the America's Cup-winning BMW Oracle Racing team .

Laurene Powell Jobs: Venus

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Steve Jobs' wife, investor and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs, inherited a nearly finished 78-meter yacht named Venus when the Apple cofounder died in 2011.

After spending years vacationing on Ellison's yachts, Jobs wanted one for himself. He designed Venus with French starchitect and decorator Philippe Starck , and she was worth $130 million at completion.

"Venus comes from the philosophy of minimum," Starck said of her design. "The elegance of the minimum, approaching dematerialization."

Jobs and Starck began working together in 2007, the designer told Vanity Fair , and held monthly meetings over four years. Venus was delivered in 2012 to Jobs' specification: six identical cabins, a design to ensure spaces of absolute silence, and the most up-to-date technology.

"There will never again be a boat of that quality again. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task," Starck told the magazine. "It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing, we were embarked on a philosophical action, implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes."

Charles Simonyi: Norn

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Early Microsoft employee Charles Simonyi has purchased two megayachts from the German shipyard Lürssen: the 90-meter Norn and 71-meter Skat.

Delivered in 2023, Norn is full of luxe features, including an outdoor cinema and a pool floor that lifts to become a light-up dancefloor. She shares a militaristic style with Skat , which Simonyi sold in 2021.

Skats's name is derived from the Danish word for treasure, and she had a listing price of 56.5 million euros and was launched in 2002.

"The yacht is to be home away from my home in Seattle, and its style should match the style of the house, adapted for the practicalities of the sea," Simonyi once said .

Sergey Brin: Dragonfly

Google cofounder Sergey Brin has built a flotilla of yachts, boats, and toys known as the "Fly Fleet."

Named after a once-secret Google product , the largest of Brin's armada is the sleek Dragonfly , which boasts a movie theater and a helipad. The 73-meter-long vessel was built by the Australian shipyard Silver Yachts and can fit up to 18 guests and 16 crew members, according to SuperYacht Times.

Also in his fleet is the superyacht Butterfly, a mere 38 meters long. Often moored in the Bay Area, her crewmembers spend their downtime kitesurfing and giving swimming lessons to local kids.

The rest of his marine lineup includes a smaller boat called Firefly, as well as Jet Skis, foilboards, dinghies, and kiteboards. She takes a team of 50 full-time employees to manage, steer, and maintain the entire operation.

Project Phoenix is a 187-foot concept that will have the hull of an existing vessel that was designed for laying cables in the North Sea.

Few boats live up to their names like Project Phoenix. Like the mythical bird, this superyacht is rising from the ashes of its humble, commercial-vessel past and could soon become a modern explorer yacht. Extreme refits like these are becoming more attractive to owners as many shipyards are now backlogged with new builds for the next three to four years.

Originally built by EJ Smit & Zoon in 1968 to lay cables in the North Sea, the vessel is actually ready for its second conversion. In the 1990s, it became the 173-foot Sir Arthur J , a classic but terribly dated superyacht that served several owners for nearly 30 years. Now, having been stripped back to a bare hull at the ICT shipyard in Turkey, the Phoenix concept is waiting for the right owner for what could be yachting’s most extreme makeover.

The newly imagined exterior and interior by Omega Architects is nothing like Sir Arthur J ’s old look (below), but more like forward-looking explorer designs. Yacht firm Ocean Independence is presenting the project as a refit opportunity, but one that’s on steroids.

“Since she was built for laying cable in the rough North Sea, she’s stronger than a typical yacht,” Eel Kant, CEO of ICT shipyard, told Robb Report . “Her thick steel hull is well suited to cruising through ice, and she can carry a lot of toys onboard including a submarine in the bow.” What’s also optimal is that a prospective owner could save about a year compared to a new build, thanks to the proven hull.

Phoenix is expected to have an 11,000-nautical mile range, with the option to fully customize the entire yacht. “The renewed engines are already in place, as well as some original machinery, but the vision is to update the boat with the latest equipment to create a modern explorer with a classic hull,” says Kant.

For Omega Architects’ Frank Laupman, Project Phoenix represents the second roll of the dice with this particular vessel. Six years ago, Laupman was approached by the former owners to transform it into a trawler-style yacht. Family challenges sunk those plans and Sir Arthur J fell into disrepair. ICT saw it as an opportunity to refit and rebuild.

Two years ago, ICT completed the refit of a John Bannenberg-designed Feadship , which has as much pedigree as any classic yacht around. “That was the start of a deliberate campaign to move into the refit market,” says Kant. “A lot of things are possible when you buy an existing hull like Project Phoenix, but it takes vision. We cleaned the hull up to showcase the huge 850 GT volume and Frank Laupman came up with a design.”

The original canoe stern on Sir Arthur J ’s hull was redesigned by Laupman to add a beach club and swim platform. That extended the length to 187 feet. A mid-leaning forward superstructure provides a more conventional explorer profile and frees up room on the aft deck to include a pool and space for a 30-foot tender. The bow has been raised to accommodate two smaller tenders on the foredeck.

“One of the key elements of this build is the time savings it offers an owner,” Peter Hürzeler, managing partner at Ocean Independence, told Robb Report .

Two years ago, ICT completed the successful refit of Cedar Sea II, an original John

Keen to reference Project Phoenix’s heritage while incorporating a modern twist, Laupman has kept the original windows and added a few larger windows on the superstructure. “The boat can carry one extra tender than your typical 175-footer, which will suit owners who like to dock their yacht and explore the coast,” Laupman told Robb Report . “I wanted to give her an evergreen feel. So, she has a classic hull with shell plating to make the bow higher and we designed a new wheelhouse.”

Laupman went all out on the interior design, creating a 27,000-sq. ft. main deck entirely for the owner. That deck includes the owner’s stateroom with a private terrace and large ensuite, along with space for a cinema and private decks on both ends of the boat. There are also five staterooms on the lower deck. Considering it’s an explorer yacht, an optional touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck makes sense. The interior is defined by contrasting elements, including high-gloss veneers beside soft leathers and brass accents, with white and black marble mingling with European oak herringbone flooring.

Hürzeler thinks Phoenix is the ideal solution for a time-challenged owner who wants a customizable build. “Inventory is disappearing,” he says. “A proven platform in Project Phoenix’s size range offers large-yacht comfort, but it’s not so big to keep you out of smaller ports. She’ll do very well in rough weather, with the characteristics for an owner who wants to explore.”

Here are some other images of the yacht after it has risen from the flames.

Hit-and-run boat that killed Florida teen ballerina may have been found. What we know

UPDATE: FWC officers have identified a boat that matches the description. The owner is cooperating.

Authorities may have found the boat that struck and killed a teen girl waterskiing off the coast in South Florida on Saturday, May 11, according to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission .

Officials said Ella Riley Adler, 15, a ballerina with the Miami Ballet, was being towed behind a yacht near the Nixon Beach Sandbar in Biscayne Bay when she fell into the water and was struck by another boat. The boat sped off to the west.

"I am pleased to report that we have a vessel in custody that matches the description given by witnesses and the investigation is ongoing,” said FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto. “As a father and grandfather, my heart is broken for the Adler family. Ella’s death is devastating for her family, friends and the community at large. The FWC and our partner law enforcement agencies will not stop until we have all the answers and the case is solved.”

The vessel is in custody and its owner is cooperating with the investigation, the FWC said in a release.

The boat was described in the initial FWC release as a center console boat with a light blue hull, three or four white outboard engines and possibly blue or dark blue bottom paint.

Investigators said it was unclear if the driver of the boat knew she was there or was hit.

Witnesses or anyone with video footage or information should contact the FWC at 888-404-FWCC or 888-404-3922 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS or 305-471-8477.

A total reward of up to $20,000 — $10,000 from Adler's family and a combined $10,000 from FWC and Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers — is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and successful prosecution of the driver of the hit-and-run boat incident.

Who is Ella Riley Adler of Florida?

Ella Adler was a freshman at Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove and a ballerina with the Miami City Ballet. She is the granddaughter of Michael M. Adler, the current U.S. Ambassador to Belgium , according to the Miami Herald .

"We are heartbroken," the school said in a Facebook post Monday morning. "Ella Adler '27 shined in our classrooms and on our stages, and she embodied the mission of Ransom Everglades School. We wish peace and comfort to her family."

Adler appeared in more than 100 performances with the Miami Ballet, including "The Nutcracker," according to her Legacy.com obituary . In school, she performed on the dance team, acted in the school play "Chicago" and was a member of the Ransom Everglades Jewish Students Association.

Miami City Ballet praised Adler in a statement: “Ella Adler was not just a beloved student and a magnificent dancer who graced our stage in George Balanchine’s 'The Nutcracker,' she was an integral part of our family, radiating potential and promise whose kindness, warmth, and infectious joy were known to all.“

"You were taken from us way too soon, and the world has been robbed of all the things you could have achieved," her father, Matthew, wrote in a letter read during a funeral service at Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach on Monday, the Miami Herald reported . "But you will always be here with us and your friends and family will carry your energy and spirit forever.”

Adler is survived by her parents Amanda and Matthew, her brother Jaden, and her sister Adalynn, grandparents Judy and Ambassador Michael M. Adler, and Susan and Michael Klaiman, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

What happened in the boating death of Ella Adler?

At about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, (the day before Mother's Day) by the Nixon Beach Sandbar in Biscayne Bay near Miami, the 15-year-old dancer had been waterskiing behind a gray yacht and was being towed when she fell into the water. She was wearing a life jacket and had a board still attached to her feet, an FWC official told NBC6 in Miami .

A witness said the boat did not appear to swerve or slow down when it hit the girl. The yacht towing her immediately spun around back to where she was and began broadcasting distress calls, the witness told NBC6.

Where was Ella Adler killed? Where is Nixon Beach Sandbar in Florida?

The Nixon Beach Sandbar is located in Biscayne Bay, Florida, west of Hurricane Harbor near Miami.

It's a popular destination for recreational boaters and fishing for its white sands and clear shallow waters, and it "turns into a wild party spot every weekend" full of yachts and catamarans, according to the boating site sail.me .

The area was named for former president Richard M. Nixon, who owned a home overlooking the water nearby.

Natalie Neysa Alund, USA TODAY, contributed to this story.

Share All sharing options for: Adrian Newey hints at his future plans

F1 Grand Prix of Miami

Throughout the Miami Grand Prix, the individual whose future plans were discussed most was not a current driver, nor a potential driver who may join the grid next season.

Rather, the name on everyone’s lips was that of Adrian Newey.

The legendary engineer and designer shocked the Formula 1 world with the announcement that he would be stepping away from Red Bull in early 2025. That news sparked speculation regarding where Newey would land next, or if he would step away from F1 entirely.

Now, in a video for Oyster Yachts released on YouTube , Newey addresses his future for the first time.

And it certainly looks as if he will be back in F1 before we know it.

“I’ve wanted to work in motor racing as a designer since I was the age of eight or ten and I’ve been lucky enough to fulfil that ambition to have got that first job and been in motor racing ever since,” said Newey to his manager Eddie Jordan in the video. “So every day has just been a bonus really, I just love what I do. So at some point I guess I’ll have a bit of a holiday and as Forrest Gump said at the end of his long run, I feel a little bit tired at the moment, but at some point I’ll probably go again.”

Newey also revealed in the video that he spoke with IndyCar owner Roger Penske and former Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone, who are 87 and 93 respectively, who inspired him to carry on working. The legendary F1 designer also shared memories of his father, who suffered a series of brain hemorrhages after his own retirement.

Those discussions, along with the memories of his father, have certainly left an impact.

“It’s slightly emotional to say it, but [my father] kind of lost his way a bit in his retirement,” said Newey . “I thought he’d be very happy continuing to tinker around on cars and stuff and he just lost his mojo a bit.

“[So] kind of a combination of that and then two of the people that I respect the most, Bernie and Roger Penske, I asked them both ‘what’s your secret?’ because they’ve kept going and going and for their age they’re phenomenally mentally agile and physically agile. And they both said that old thing that the brain’s like a muscle, it needs exercise and so you need to keep doing that.”

Newey also outlined how the rhythm of motorsport, and the near-constant feedback the stopwatch provides, is something he will miss.

“The great thing about motor racing – it can be very painful – but every two weeks or so, well every flipping week now the way the calendar’s gone, you know how you’re doing,” continued Newey. “So that feedback, I think, is what vitalises the whole thing. I guess that’s what I’ve got used to over the years and I know I’d miss it if I wasn’t doing it.”

As for where Newey might land, his comments offer little insight. But as mentioned above his name was on the lips of almost every team in the paddock ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, and some of Red Bull’s former drivers chimed in on just what it meant working with a legend. In addition, there are multiple reports that Aston Martin has made a significant offer to Newey, reports that Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack dismissed recently .

So while we do not know where Newey might land next, it certainly seems that the legend will be back in F1 at some point next season.

Can the Phoenix Suns be repaired? 8 conversations Mike Budenholzer needs to have

phoenix 1 yacht owner

Mike Budenholzer now sits on what has become the NBA’s hottest seat.

He’s the third Phoenix Suns head coach in less than a 12-month span. Team owner Mat Ishbia fired Monty Williams in May 2023 and Frank Vogel last week.

Now Budenholzer has been hired to lead a team that’s due to pay Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal a combined $150 million and projected to exceed the second tax apron next season with the NBA’s highest payroll at essentially $206 million and a luxury tax bill of almost $105 million.

Budenholzer is returning to his home state to coach in a city that has an abundance of golf courses to swing his favorite 9 iron. From Holbrook, Budenholzer agreed to five-year deal for $50-plus million, but Ishbia’s “championship or else” approach has led to firing two proven coaches.

Budenholzer could be the third as soon as next year.

Ishbia has already said the Suns have “enough talent” to win a championship. If they fall short of that again, then it’ll be on the head coach, right?

Budenholzer had his introductory press conference Friday at Footprint Center. Congratulations are in order and the hometown should be proud, but he knows the harsh reality of coaching in the NBA.

The 54-year-old veteran coach was fired in Milwaukee two seasons after coaching Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks to an NBA championship as they defeated the Suns in the 2021 finals.

The Suns are desperately trying to win the first one in franchise history with an owner who is doing whatever he feels is necessary to achieve that goal. So, Budenholzer should either have had, is having or will continue to have the following conversations to set the foundation to coach this team moving forward.

Ishbia: Need more than Year 1

Beal admitted after the season that Phoenix has a “short window” to compete for a championship.

That doesn’t mean Budenholzer should have a short lease, too.

Granted, he’s getting paid. Budenholzer clearly knows high expectations come with hefty paychecks.

However, when the previous coach was fired after the Suns fell “way below” expectations as general manager James Jones said, even though they had 21 different starting lineups largely due to injuries starting with Beal and Booker, the new coach should at least be assured he’ll have more than one year.

Vogel said he had “full support” from Ishbia going into Game 4 of the first round of the NBA playoffs against Minnesota and was “very” confident he’d receive a second season only to be let go after an evaluation.

At least Budenholzer knows what could happen if he doesn’t get it done.

Since it’s all or nothing, Budenholzer should talk to Ishbia about having more say in roster construction even though there are restrictions due to being over the second tax apron.

Jones: Need more say in the roster

Continuing the same thread, Budenholzer should have major input in determining who he coaches.

If he wants a point guard, go find one, even in a backup role.

If he wants an athletic four in part so Durant can play the three, go find one.

Budenholzer has won 60.4% of his games (484-317) in 10 seasons as an NBA head coach and been awarded NBA Coach of the Year twice — Atlanta (2014-15) and Milwaukee (2018-19).

A disciple of Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich, Budenholzer learned from the best and is proven. The Suns need to build a roster that best suits his strengths in relation to how the game is being played.

With Ishbia and Jones, the conversations should focus on what Budenholzer needs to have the best chance of winning a title. The talks with the players need to center around getting everyone on the same page from Day 1, style of play in establishing an identity and his expectations in terms of style of play.

Overall team: What happened, why, let’s make this work

The Suns can’t have a repeat of the 2023-24 season.

Or, they’ll likely be looking for a new coach again next season.

When the final roster is in place, Budenholzer, preferably in person, needs to sit down with the group and have everyone air out what went wrong, why didn’t it work out and what they expect out of him.

No sugarcoating. Push all the chips in the middle of the table and address the issues.

Only one team wins a championship.

If Phoenix had reached the finals and lost, it still would’ve fell short of expectations, but for a season of underachievement to end in a first-round sweep, it can’t be as simple as missing shots or poor communication.

Budenholzer needs to get to the root of what happened to help him coach them better next season.

Booker: Easier shots, fewer rants with referees

As much of a bucket Booker is, he took way too many tough shots this season. Half of his shot attempts came with the defender within 2-4 feet of him, which is considered tight coverage.

Budenholzer needs to show ways he’s going to free up Booker for looks and not rely on someone getting doubled for that to happen. More moving without the ball, coming off screens, catch-and-shoots.

The Suns were 25 th in NBA in turnovers for two reasons — overdribbling and overpassing or bad passing as Vogel would say. The fewer bounces for Booker, the better it should be over the course of a season — even if he shot 51.8% from the field after taking seven-plus dribbles this season.

Booker can average 30, but that needs to happen on easier, more efficient looks to help this team win.

Budenholzer and Booker will be on the same page when it comes to defense turning into offense. Booker loves the transition game, but Budenholzer must demand more from the franchise player on defense.

Communication is vital on defense, but so is guarding your man. Booker took a step backwards in that area this season. Better defense could lead to fewer fouls and fewer conversation with the refs so there are fewer occasions Booker has that red face and is out of his game from being upset over the whistle.

Durant: Address coach/player relationships, film study

Budenholzer should ask Durant if he went mute on Vogel for three months or a month — or whatever it was — not just to find out what happened, but so it doesn’t happen with him.

Durant is about playing the game, but that coach-player relationship needs be a pretty darn good one, especially with the team’s best player.

So first, get on the same sheet music with Durant.

Second, go over film together to see where Durant wants his looks. The offense can work as one with everyone doing their job.

Durant and Booker are basketball heads who love talking Xs and Os, strategy and execution.

Budenholzer needs to be on his game right here. If not, he’ll lose them both mentally. They won’t trust what they’re being asked to do. Budenholzer should also show Durant — one of the game’s most efficient scorers — through film how less dribbles can lead to even better shots and fewer turnovers.

Catch-and-shoot connections count the same as off-the-bounce buckets.

Durant isn’t the rah-rah type. He believes each player must do his job. The latter is easier for him to say because he’s been doing his at the highest level forever.

He isn’t as comfortable with the earlier one, but Budenholzer needs to find out why he’s never been that type and try to explain the impacts of his words on teammates.

Durant’s intentions are to win, so regardless of what he says, it can only help the team.

Beal: You’re the point guard, catch-and-shoot 3s

James Harden did more than average 30-plus points three straight seasons in Houston. He led the league in assists with a career-high 11.2 in 2016-17 the season before that dominant three-year stretch.

He’s led the NBA in assists twice in his career with the second time during a three-year span (2020-23) in which he averaged 20-plus points and 10-plus assists — while playing for three different teams, by the way.

This should be a goal for Beal — 20 and 10. He averaged 18.2 points and five assists in his first season in Phoenix. Beal can make the passes. He has a high basketball IQ.

It’s just a matter of doing it consistently and having fewer turnovers. Budenholzer should show Beal film of guys who score and facilitate, what he needs to read on penetration, closeouts, off pick-and-roll and in transition — and drill it over and over it over all summer so those decisions become habit.

With his handle and bursts, Beal could be a tough cover at the point with Booker and Durant on the wings if he’s consistently making the correct reads.

Budenholzer should also stress the importance of catch-and-shoot 3s. Beal shot a career-high 43% from 3 this season. On catch-and-shoot 3s, try 43.6% on 3.2 attempts per game.

Imagine him doubling those attempts and knocking them at the same clip.

If the Suns can land a backup point guard, Beal can then dig into his scoring bag playing alongside him at times, but getting in premium shape will be a requirement to shoulder the role of initiating offense and being the point of attack defender — and stay healthy for more than 60 games.

Jusuf Nurkic: Bring the 3 back

The 7-footer was often criticized for coming up short inside, but Nurkic made 58.5% of his shots less than five feet from the basket. However, he finished just 39.5% of his two-point field goals with the closest defender being two feet or less from him.

That latter number must improve because those misfires feel like wasted possessions when Grayson Allen, Booker, Durant and Beal are options. Budenholzer can work with him on finding better angles to score inside around and over defenders, but he’s also coached bigs who can shoot 3s with Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis being the last two.

There was time Nurkic was a threat from deep. He hit a career-high 40% with the Blazers in 2020-21 and shot 36.1% on 2.3 attempts in his final season in Portland before being traded to Phoenix.

This season, try 24.4% on 1.2 attempts.

Nurkic can get the same looks Lopez and Portis generated under Budenholzer. Those two also need to have a conversation on how he can be even better defensively in terms of positioning.

Allen: Start or off the bench?

Allen started 131 of the 139 regular season games he played in Milwaukee under Budenholzer.

He started all but one of his 75 games with the Suns this season.

Allen is now being paid like a starter with his four-year extension for $70 million, but Budenholzer needs to talk with him about possibly coming off the bench, especially if the Suns can find an athletic four so Durant can work at the three.

Figuring out a rotation that best suits the team, not just the Big 3, is paramount for Budenholzer. Will Allen coming off the bench help that? Can he provide the same production? Is he needed with the starters to further space the floor for Booker, Beal and Durant?

Allen competes on defense, but teams hunted him in matchups and took advantage. The final roster will likely determine who starts along with the Big 3. Budenholzer needs to let Allen know value and the reality that he could very well come off the bench next season.

Five One-year plan

These aren’t easy conversations, but they’re not supposed to be, especially for a coach who isn’t on a five-year plan even though he signed a five-year contract.

More like a year-by-year plan that could end after Year 1.

Booker said the Suns lacked communication all season. Budenholzer can do his part to make sure that’s not the case again by having meaningful talks now, not later.
