The NZMYC are dedicated to promoting Multihulls and Multihull sailing, providing a number of events from racing to cruising over the year. Members can draw on over thirty years of experience; there are a number of designers in the club, both amateur and professional and a number of talented builders. The NZMYC now make their home at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron on the Westhaven breakwater. Monthly meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month at 7.30pm except December and usually have a guest speaker, video or point of interest. We welcome enquiries and are always open to new people interested in joining the multihull fraternity.

Tornados', Paper Tigers, a few 'A' Class catamarans and a variety of other beach cats make up the core of the racing division. On bigger races such as Kawera, some of the larger cat’s join us to stretch their legs so to speak.
The TYPBC multihull division features the largest Tornado fleet in New Zealand.
We love to go fast are passionate about our boats and are a great bunch of sailors. We are competitive on the water and good mates once we hit land. We're always looking to increase the fleet size and improve on our sailing quality, so if you're around and want to join in, please approach any one of the teams - Make yourself known and join in. We love talking boats just about as much as we love sailing them. Please excuse us however if you're trying to chat when we're still rigging up and are running late for the start line - we don't mean to be rude, we're just on a mission! To find out more about the Paper Tiger group click here to go to their website
We have a full race calendar. The summer series is sailed in conjunction with the Keeler division on Wednesday nights during daylight savings featuring about 24 races, 12 each side of Christmas. We run a Harbour Series of approximately 6 races, typically sailed on a Sunday. Friday Night series, and feature races such as the Matakana Classic - a non-stop race around the Island, The Stu Pedersen Memorial Cup which is sailing the length of Papamoa beach and back, and the Matakana Raid – a race based on the famous Swedish Archipelago Raid which involves a race to Athenree and returns over 3 days- this is a full family affair. If you choose you can also join the Centre Boarders for Sunday racing.
The Winter Series is also a great chance to keep your skills sharp. It consists of approximately 6 races raced every second Sunday from May to August. So there is plenty of opportunities to go racing throughout the year and 'beach cat racing' is one of the most affordable ways to skipper your own boat.
If you own a multi-hull and have been thinking about racing her, please get in touch with Tom, Lyndsay or any of the other cat sailors. Come down and meet the team and see what we do.

Auckland Harbour Classic 2023
There’s a new race, a new challenge, a party and a spectacle to Auckland Harbour – introducing the Harbour Classic!
From the people who bring you the famous Coastal Classic, the biggest coastal race in the Southern Hemisphere, we are now bringing you another race based on the famous Barcolana Regatta in Trieste, Italy.
Just like the Coastal Classic the Barcolana Regatta started with a small number of boats. It now holds the Guinness World Record as the largest regatta in the world with 2689 boats competing and is the biggest event for the city of Trieste.
And now it’s our turn!
Dedicated to all lovers of the sea and sailing and those who do not want to miss out on a one-of-a-kind experience, the Harbour Classic will take place from 31 March to 1 April 2023. (Race day 1 April – don’t be fooled – it’s no joke).
The Harbour Classic is an event not only for sailors, it’s also a spectacle to see. We are currently working with Auckland Unlimited to turn this event into a festival of fun, parties and prizegiving, and having boats moored within this village atmosphere.
Visit our website to find out more www.harbourclassic.co.nz
On the same starting line expert sailors, sailing lovers, and enthusiasts, race side by side on boats of different sizes divided into several divisions according to their overall length.
The proposed 14 nautical race will start at North Head, running along the north shore beaches to Torbay returning to North Head through the Rangitoto Channel.

Multihull Open Day a Success

A Multihull Yacht Club initiative, the recent New Zealand Multilhull Boat Show held in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour was a great success and the Club extends its thanks to all those who supported the day…
What a perfect summer’s day for the boat show. Compared to last year it couldn’t have been more different!
From sunrise to sunset it all went well, thanks to the support of many people. We had a steady stream of people, some from far afield, coming to look at the boats and ask plenty of questions. And there was much interest in the free raffle and sausages as well!
So a big thanks to everyone who helped. From the boat owners, including Weta Marine and The Viper by Magic Marine through to the designers, Roger Hill & Derek Kelsall (thanks Roger & Derek for your ongoing support of this event) and especially Greer Houston from Jackson Electrical who set up and supplied the power and Adhesive Technologies NZ Ltd for the raffle and not forgetting Team New Zealand for the use of the marinas.
Tents supplied by Dave Giddens Sailmakers.
