Since its launch in 2013, the RM890+ never stopped to surprise and seduce. The goal was to conceive a true cruiser, with loads of living space, comfort yet performance, at ease for both coastal cruising and port-hopping. In her different versions – twin-keel or fin keel – this fast 30ft sailboat is easy to sail, and quick to set up.

With the RM1070+ we wanted to create a 35ft sailboat suitable for all navigation plans, including long-range cruising. She is available in three appendage versions: twin-keel, fin keel, or lifting keel.

Should you be looking for a fast, elegant cruising yacht, capable of crossing either oceans or the next bay nearby, solo or with your family, the RM1180 will satisfy all these expectations. Just add charm and seduction on top.

A 45-foot sailboat made of plywood-epoxy, the RM1380 is exceptionally elegant and racy, and capable of long cruises, such as a circum-navigation or a transatlantic ocean crossing in the best conditions of speed, safety, and comfort.

First look: RM 1380 – largest new yacht from the French marque

The RM 1380 is set to be the biggest boat this popular French brand has produced and could well suit bluewater cruisers

Product Overview

I like RM 1380 and I’m clearly not alone in appreciating these (typically) brightly coloured plywood epoxy fast cruisers – with over 500 hulls launched during the La Rochelle yard’s 30 or more years in production. It describes this latest (now its largest) 45-footer as ‘the perfect balance of style, velocity and bluewater cruising.’

The RM 1380 includes many of the features that have made the RM name what it is, including the combination of plywood hulls and foam sandwich glassfibre decks, deep cockpit coamings and inboard winches sited forward in the protection of the coachroof. Then there are the light, open interiors, and the versatile draught options for lift or twin keels. The latter are bolted to a galvanised steel structure.

The Marc Lombard hull shape features his characteristic reverse sheerline, together with a sizable coachroof that blends well with these lines. The powerful shape, which is angular and chined to suit its plywood construction, creates a stiff result on the water. A light displacement of under 10 tonnes for this model, combined with beamy aft sections and twin rudder control, should prove fun off the breeze.

RM 1380 will feature a bright interior with plenty of natural light

Piaton Design has styled the bright interior, which looks like it has bountiful natural light. It is offered as a three cabin version with forward master, or alternatively this can be split in half to create a fourth cabin.

The 1380 is billed as a bluewater cruiser , but for those considering long voyages, the tankage may be a limiting factor at just 150lt for fuel and 270lt for water. However, there are options to upgrade these to 300lt and 400lt respectively – a watermaker will top the ‘to add’ list for many.

Each RM looks unique because each comes with the owner’s choice of paint finish. This new flagship model is due to make its debut at the Paris and Düsseldorf boat shows in December and January.

The RM1070 has long been a big hit with sailors, with 56 sold to date. Now RM Yachts have completed a complete redesign below decks to create the RM1070+

The RM1070 has won many plaudits over the 6 years since it was first launched. The boat offers a just the right heady mix of sportiness and cruising safety for an active sailing couple or family.

With many factories having foregone building in wood, the plywood epoxy approach taken by RM Yachts is a smart, time-tested method. However, it is very labour intensive and that is something that does not come cheap.

The RM1070 has loads of character and has, since her launch, been a yacht that proudly says different is good.

Although the boat has rightly received plaudits for her great performance as a pacy cruiser, she was perhaps a little let down by options below decks. The boat always had a reasonable, light and spacey feel below, but it was arguably not the strongest feature.

Now, however, RM Yachts has totally revamped the internal offering of the RM1070. In fact, the works have been so extensive the company has relaunched the boat with a new name, the RM1070+.

The new interior is intended to provide more modernity, more coziness, and, eventually, more comfort.

Features such as a subtle contrast of glossy white lacquered and matt anthracite grey kitchen worktops, a few wooden touches around the numerous windows, and a real teak saloon table all add up to an offering that is bright and unashamedly modern.

As with the build materials and much of the rest of the RM1070’s characteristics, the 1070+ stands separate from much of the rest of the yacht offerings on the market. The revamp below now matches the rest in it’s proud to be different character.

RM 1080, The New Bluewater With Convertible Cockpit

The French shipyard RM-Yachts has unveiled the first images of the future RM 1080, a 36-foot (10.80-metre) convertible cockpit yacht. With modern lines, designed once again by Marc Lombard , the inverted stem, a pronounced knee, which reaches from the stern to the bow, and a large dolphin striker, RM1080 has an innovative cockpit, adaptable according to the needs of the moment ( navigation or relaxation), for a comfortable and safe cruise.

The hull material is a mix of plywood and epoxy resin, the use of which, unparalleled in the history of modern yachting, enables to design original, high-performance yachts, limiting the need for molded 100% glass-polyester composite hulls. 

The RM 1080 features a cockpit that can be transformed into a sun deck, helm and maneuvering station, all under the protection of a large spray hood and secure cockpit sides. The ergonomics of the helm stations are not to be outdone, with two eccentric steering wheels and integrated seats.

A true bluewater sailboat , the RM 1080 features a real chart table, a draining foul weather gear locker, a U-shaped galley and a vast saloon. The usual technical room will also facilitate maintenance and access to systems. The spacious cabins also benefit from the full width of this powerful hull.

RM yachts for colourful boats! Their angular, streamlined silhouette is usually adorned with bright colours to real effect, but their "pretty face" is far from being their only asset! They're safe, fast and comfortable. Also their base material, being wood, makes them some of the most recyclable boats around! While the first RM 800 and 900 were released in 1989, the RM 1070 designed by Marc Lomà came out in 1995, followed by the RM 1180 more recently. Historically based in La Rochelle, the shipyard that builds RM Yachts boats is located near the Port des Minimes, in Périgny. Recently it has been the scene of several takeovers. The brand and the shipyard now belong to the Grand Large group, alongside great names such as Allures yachting, Outremer, Garcia yachts and Gunboat. RM yachts are special because they feature a double or triple chine hull which makes them particularly seaworthy, rigid and fast. Their composite construction uses epoxy plywood, polyester and now an epoxy sandwich design. Their long roofs offer a 180° view and the interiors with their appealing pearl grey finish are as clear and uncluttered as they are attractive, so much so that an RM has been elected sailboat of the year 5 times! RM yachts are as unusual as they are exciting, being aimed at both travellers and fast cruising enthusiasts.
