Review of Javelin 30

Basic specs..

The boat is typically equipped with an inboard Bukh diesel engine at 20.0 hp (14 kW), which gives a max speed about 5.7 knots.

Sailing characteristics

This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.

What is Capsize Screening Formula (CSF)?

The capsize screening value for Javelin 30 is 1.84, indicating that this boat could - if evaluated by this formula alone - be accepted to participate in ocean races.

What is Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed?

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 6.3 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Javelin 30 is about 123 kg/cm, alternatively 691 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 123 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 691 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Sailing statistics

This section is statistical comparison with similar boats of the same category. The basis of the following statistical computations is our unique database with more than 26,000 different boat types and 350,000 data points.

What is Motion Comfort Ratio (MCR)?

What is L/B (Length Beam Ratio)?

What is Displacement Length Ratio?

Does anyone know anything about these boats, i have had my eye on one for a while and they look like a proper little ship.

Typical 70's cruiser racer. Big headsails and pretty well balanced but long overhangs encourage pitching in short steep seas. Nice boats though.

Have Yachting Monthly review (by JDS no less!) and Marcon's original brochure from 1972. PM me if interested.

I have a javelin 30 that I had rebuilt in 2000. I have had it for some 15 years but now with grandchildren etc it is reluctantly for sale.

O'Day Corp.

Founded by famed Americas Cup sailor and olympic medalist George O’Day. In the beginning George O’Day Associates was only a distributor for several brands of small Sailboats. Some were produced by Fairey Marine of England and Marscot Plastics in the USA. (O’Day took over Marscot in 1958 to build the RHODES 19.) Soon he became involved in producing his own line of boats. Among the most successful projects was in commissioning Uffa Fox to design the DAYSAILER in 1969. Eventually, more than 12000 of these were sold. O’Day sold his company to the conglomerate Bangor Punta (later Lear Siegler) in 1966. For a number of years, O’Day Corp. was the largest producer of sailboats in the US. Manufacturers ID (>1972): XDY.

Preston Kuznof repeats: Atlantic javelin thrower makes history at FHSAA track meet

javelin 30 sailboatdata

JACKSONVILLE — One 200-foot throw delivered an instant message by air mail to the state: Preston Kuznof is still Florida's king of the javelin.

And he was only getting started.

Atlantic's javelin star is bringing a second Florida High School Athletic Association trophy back to Port Orange, and writing a new record in the process, during Thursday's Class 2A track and field championships in Jacksonville.

The senior is an unstoppable force on the field in the boys javelin, ranked second in the United States in the national MileSplit rankings and getting used to the feeling of capturing FHSAA trophies after his breakthrough triumph in 2023.

"My adjustment from last year was learning, regardless of the atmosphere and regardless of where you're at, you just do you and relax," he said.

Nobody has beaten Kuznof in the javelin during the 2024 high school season, and surrounded by the blue track of the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, nobody was going to beat him on Thursday, either.

He began his afternoon with a facility-record 200-foot effort, then unleashed three more mammoth throws: 211 feet and 2 inches on the second, 207 feet and nine inches on the third and a mere 199 feet, 9 inches on the fourth.

The last attempt was still 30 feet beyond the mark of anybody else in the meet other than Suwannee senior Will Wainwright, a state weightlifting champion who launched a 193-foot throw on his first attempt before overshooting the line to foul on each subsequent try.

A relative newcomer to the sport who only began throwing the javelin in the winter of 2022-23, Kuznof credited the work of private throwing coach Carlos Baker: "He's really gotten me to where I am today."

"This whole experience is really special, especially since I just started throwing last year," Kuznof said.

Only one high school athlete in the nation, LSU-committed Paul Catalanatto of Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic, has thrown farther than Kuznof in 2024.

Kuznof is already setting his sights on TCU for college track and field, and far from finished flourishing on the field.

"Being ranked so high, my confidence is way up, and I feel good," he said.

Father Lopez's Brewton, Fulton make podium with PR throws

Father Lopez throwers Mackenzie Brewton and Adelae Fulton set new personal-bests in Wednesday's FHSAA Class 1A championships to earn spots on the podium.

Brewton placed third in the shot put with a top mark of 11.34 meters, and Fulton broke her school's record in the discus at 36.27 meters to finish in fourth.

Ryan Herdel narrowly missed the top-eight in the 200-meter dash, but also etched his name in Father Lopez's record book with a time of 22.52 seconds.
