Mega Yacht SERENITY Charter Brief: M/Y SERENITY (72m/236') was built by Australian shipyard Austal back in 2004. Having been fully transformed into a one of a kind 14 cabin super yacht with light interiors designed by Tillberg Design, featuring spacious decks and fun facilities, she is now one of the worlds’ top party charter yachts. Built out of aluminium and with 14m beam, she will be cruising at speeds of around 14kn mainly in the East Mediterranean. With Bureau Veritas classification, Greek flag and accommodation for up to 28 guests + supernumeraries, she is indeed one of a kind special super yacht. Her super yacht crew of 30 will be offering private yacht charters mainly in Greece and other East Mediterranean ports, with possibility to charter her in other locations on request.

Tip: MY SERENITY has undergone a full refit during 2015/2016 and is an ideal boat for parties, especially when in port.

About Mega Yacht SERENITY: One of the most remarkable feats of the refit will be her floor to ceiling windows which will provide plenty of natural light and fabulous views. Her specially designed interior has hues of white, navy and grey colours with accents of rich timbers and chic metallic features. With numerous, very unique artworks displayed throughout and very luxurious, light coloured fittings, M/Y SERENITY has a striking look in the interior, one that will impress all guests on the first sight.

At 72m/236’ length, this multi-deck super yacht has numerous entertaining areas. Ideal for corporate and party charters as a result, she also provides options to book her for short-term charters or any kind of social functions where there is a need for socialising and entertainment on board. Further in the interior, an extended dining table made out of glass will be the setting for formal dinners while aft area and sun deck will be reserved for more relaxing cocktail parties and al-fresco dining.

With gym equipment, sunbathing areas, a Jacuzzi and a number of other entertainment and relaxation areas and features, those seeking a refugee at sea and a genuine luxury yacht charter experience will also find plenty to do when on board. The super yacht crew of 30 are highly professional and capable of delivering the best possible superyacht experience as well. Voted to have one of the best beach clubs in the world, she is likely to be cruising around Maldives or Red Sea in Egypt during the winter months and mostly in Greek islands or the Adriatic during the summer months. Bespoke and detailed superyacht itineraries can be created on request and are available in advance prior to booking confirmation.

Accommodation; The accommodation on board of M/Y SERENITY was designed to offer sleeping accommodation for up 28 guests in 14 staterooms. The yacht charter guests will have 12 double and 2 twin cabins at their disposal. She is also capable of carrying up to 30 crew on board, who have their own area separated from the guest areas.   Mega yacht SERENITY charter rates: The SERENITY's super yacht charter prices start from 550,000 Euros plus APA expenses. In some locations VAT can be charged on top and prices can be higher on special days such as NEW YEAR or during special events. Special offers, negotiated deals and last minute discounts are available on request. 

Luxury crewed motor yacht SERENITY is fully air conditioned throughout. This is a non-smoking vessel. SERENITY´s experienced super yacht charter crew of up to 30 crew including the captain, have a separate head and shower and companionway. Yacht Charter guests may not be allowed to bring pets on-board.

Super Yacht TENDER: Superyacht SERENITY has a number of tenders on board. Luxury Crewed Motor Yacht itineraries: Luxury motor yacht SERENITY is usually cruising in the East Mediterranean and the Adriatic. A typical yacht charter itinerary will cover all Greek Islands of Cyclades such as Santorini, Paros, Mykonos and Milos or an area between Kotor in Montenegro and Split in Croatia, covering locations such as Island Hvar, National Park Mljet, Dubrovnik, Budva and Porto Montenegro in Tivat. During the winter she usually cruises around Red Sea, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf. All other options and destinations are available on request!

SERENITY is a (72m / 236’) luxury motor yacht built in 2014 and refitted in 2015/16. As a one of a kind super yacht made for entertainment and parties, she will be able to accommodate 28 guests accommodated in 14 staterooms.

She will be normally cruising in the East MEDITERRANEAN or the ADRIATIC, with ONE WAY charters between Turkey and Croatia and Greece and Sicily available on request. There are always at least 30 attentive super yacht crew members on board. Thanks to her twin super yacht engines, she can cruise at speeds of up to around 14kn. During best sea and wind conditions, maximum speeds of up to 17kn can be reached. Her best features are accommodation for 28 guests, superyacht crew of 30 and facilities suitable for corporate parties and event charters such as those during Cannes Film Festival.

ICON Yacht charter boat SERENITY can accommodate up to 28 guests in a total of 14 cabins. Cabin Configuration: - 2 x Master cabins with king size bed - 4 x VIP stateroom with queen double - 4 x Double staterooms - 4 x Twin cabin with 2 single beds There is also individual controlled air conditioning, wi-fi, and en-suite bathroom in each cabin. SELFIE is fully air conditioned throughout. Her super yacht crew of up to 30 including the captain have separate crew quarters with heads and showers.

The blossoming masterpiece

The Moonflower 72 retains all the key features of modern yet timeless design, onboard liveability and maximum connection with the marine environment. A project in collaboration with Nauta Design, to be delivered in 2025.

“The exterior design is based on the holistic and balanced combination of style and comfort with pure, elegant lines and a harmonious connection between exterior and interior.”

Moonflower 72 is a collaborative project between Nauta Design and Wider yachts, an innovative superyacht that retains all the key features of modern yet timeless design, onboard liveability and maximum connection with the marine environment. The exterior styling reflects Nauta’s trademark preference for clean, uncluttered design without fussy or superfluous detailing. Visual lightness, seamless outdoor/indoor connections, predominantly horizontal lines and the extensive use of glass, highlight the balanced proportions, while the chamfered sheer line amidships adds a dynamic aspect to the displacement hull. The Moonflower 72 will be equipped with the Wider’s latest generation hybrid technology comprising two variable-speed generators supplied by MAN Energy Solutions of 1.860 kW each that, in combination with a sodium nickel battery bank of approximately 1 MW/h from FZSoNick, give the chance to produce energy always at the lowest point of consumption, reducing the CO2 emission of about 20%.

The Island Beach Club

The Island is an innovative beach club concept patented by Nauta Design. Comprising multiple fold-down platforms that expand the swim platform and beach club to cover a massive 117 sqm, the indoor and outdoor areas are directly connected so guests can freely walk around the aft perimeter of the yacht for unrivalled contact with the sea on a 72-metre superyacht.

Hybrid Powertrain

The Moonflower 72 will be equipped with the Wider’s latest generation hybrid propulsion system comprising two variable-speed generators supplied by MAN Energy Solutions of 1.860 kW each that,in combination with a sodium nickel battery bank of approximately 1 MW/h from FZSoNick, give the chance to produce energy always at the lowest point of consumption, reducing the CO2 emission of about 20%. The endothermic engines are HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and Methanol ready in order to follow the WIDER net zero way. Moreover, the energy dissipated in the form of heat from the electric propulsion system will be recycled for all the hot-water uses on board and the operation of the onboard amenities has been optimized to ensure maximum efficiency.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

VESSEL REVIEW | Sinichka – Electric commuter boats designed for Russia’s Moskva River

A series of three new electric monohull commuter ferries have already begun operational sailings on the Moskva River in the Russian capital Moscow.

Built by Russian shipyard Emperium, sister vessels Sinichka , Filka , and Presnya – all named after rivers in Moscow – are being operated by the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development (Moscow Deptrans). They are the first units of a planned fleet of 20 vessels that will serve the capital city and other nearby communities. The new ferry system will be the water transport system to be operated on the Moskva River in 16 years.

Each vessel has a welded aluminium hull, an LOA of 21 metres, a beam of 6.2 metres, a draught of only 1.4 metres, a displacement of 40 tonnes, and capacity for 80 passengers plus two crewmembers. Seating is available for 42 passengers on each ferry, and the main cabins are also fitted with USB charging ports, wifi connectivity, tables, toilets, and space for bicycles and scooters. The cabin layout can be rearranged to allow the operator to adjust the distances between the seats and to install armrests of varying widths.

An open upper deck is also accessible to passengers and is the only area on each ferry where smoking is allowed.

The ferries are all of modular construction with each ferry’s wheelhouse, main cabin, and other structural elements being built as complete, separate components. This enables the ferries to be easily dismantled for transport to anywhere in Russia by rail and then quickly re-assembled within seven days.

The ferries are also ice-capable. Recently completed operational trials on the Moskva showed that the vessels can also easily navigate under mild winter conditions with broken surface ice, though year-round operations are planned for the entire fleet.

The ferries are each fitted with 500kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs that supply power to two 134kW motors. This configuration can deliver a maximum speed of 11.8 knots, a cruising speed of just under 10 knots, and a range of 150 kilometres.

Emperium said the transfer of rotation of electric motors to the propeller is carried out by direct drive. As a propulsion installation, a pulling rotary propeller-steering column with double screws is used. The installation of double pulling screws, with similar power, allows an operator to increase the efficiency of the propulsion system to deliver a slightly higher speed or to reduce energy consumption. This arrangement also provides the ferries with enhanced manoeuvrability necessary for navigating in close quarters.

The batteries themselves have projected service lives of 10 to 12 years and are fitted with safety features such as built-in fire extinguishers and gas vents. Quick-disconnect features allow the batteries to be easily removed for replacement or maintenance.

Some of our readers have expressed disquiet at our publication of reviews and articles describing new vessels from Russia. We at Baird Maritime can understand and sympathise with those views. However, despite the behaviour of the country’s leaders, we believe that the maritime world needs to learn of the latest developments in vessel design and construction there.
