Anyone got a deckplan for the Courier-class yacht?

My PCs are just about to finish up the adventure book, The Jewel of Yavin , and may or may not be hitching a ride on/stealing the Venture , a Nubian Courier-class yacht that Arend Shen owns. Anyone else decide to use that ship? Its stats are pretty sweet (maybe too sweet for my PCs, and perhaps something will go wrong during their great escape), and I would really like to have a general idea of the internal layout.

On a related note, does anyone do requests/commissions for ship deckplans? Anyone have any recommendations? I know that a lot of this game is supposed to be done in the imagination but it is really nice knowing what something as iconic as your ship looks like.

Does anyone know what a Nubian Courier-class yacht looks like at all?

There are a few other Nubian ships we know of, but I haven’t been able to find any pictures of the Courier-class yacht.

I don't think so, that's a Theed design. It doesn't seem to be one of the H-Type or J-Type drive vessels which were manufactured by the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps (TPSVEC) for the Royal house of Naboo around Nubian drive cores, but something featuring drives from the same manufacturer. Something a bit cheaper I think as it's hyperdrives seem slower than any of the expensive Theed ships. Since it carries 25 passengers & 19 crew/staff it has got to be bigger than the H-Type Yacht, bigger than a J-Type Skiff, and maybe even as big as the J-Type Diplomatic Barge (Cruiser). With those passenger and crew numbers it has to be at the big end of the SIL4 range if not actually SIL5. I reckon it looks however you want it to look, since this seems to be it's first appearance, however, Nubian Drives are big and powerful, and I reckon this Yacht is only slow because it is so damned over-armored, yet it has some extra maneuvering thrusters, the damned if the thing can't fly well, with Handling +2 it's an agile ship. [Edit] Actually looking at it's stats it's quite mad. A Silhouette 4 Ship that carries 19 crew (including cooks, waiters, stewards, cleaners) and 25 'Luxury' passengers and 50 Cargo. It is very fragile however, with HT/SS 20/20. Size comparison - Firespray, YT1300, YT2600, Lambda Shuttle are all SIL4. Wanna try having a party with 44 people on board one of those, even with rotating shifts?

Actually looking at it's stats it's quite mad. A Silhouette 4 Ship that carries 19 crew (including cooks, waiters, stewards, cleaners) and 25 'Luxury' passengers and 50 Cargo. It is very fragile however, with HT/SS 20/20. Size comparison - Firespray, YT1300, YT2600, Lambda Shuttle are all SIL4. Wanna try having a party with 44 people on board one of those, even with rotating shifts?

Yup. That’s crazy. The only Sil4 ship they’ve statted so far that can carry that many people is the Kappa-class shuttle, and those sure as heck aren’t “luxury-class passengers”.

The 4R3 Light Assault Transport can carry 16 passengers, but it only has five crew.

The Lambda-class Long-range Shuttle can carry 20 passengers, but only has six crew.

The Sentinel-class Landing Craft can carry 20 passengers, but only has six crew.

And that’s it for Sil4 ships that can carry close to that many people.

For Sil5, and a yacht designed to carry luxury-type passengers and have a larger crew, there is the Minstrel-class Space Yacht from Ubrikkian, but then that’s going to be FUGLY and SLOW compared to a Nubian design.

The J-type Diplomatic Barge is also Sil5, but it has a crew of five and only carries ten passengers. The Consular-class Light Assault Cruiser has a crew of nine and only carries sixteen passengers.

I don’t see anything else that is Sil5 or larger and is a yacht or a more luxurious type of ship, and could carry those kinds of numbers of crew and passengers.

The Corellian Engineering Corporation's answer to high-end shuttles such as the Baudo -Class Star Yacht and Theta -Class Shuttle , the YT-1500LT Courier -Class Shuttle was designed for customers who live out beyond The Mid Rim and want to travel safely in style and comfort without having to break their bank account to do so.

Each ship is made to order, with CEC's usual wide variety of paint, decor, and entertainment options available. This gives the Courier -Class the hand-crafted feel for which it has fast become famous for. There is a waiting list for delivery of these ships as a result, with the average wait time being around a year.

The YT-1500LT features several radical new design elements, including a forward-facing docking ring, and a cockpit that sits above and aft of the ship. Furthermore, the cockpit itself can detach from the ship in an emergency and act as an Escape Pod for the crew.

Upon entering the ship, one is enveloped in luxury, equivalent to an Advanced Luxury Upgrade . Exotic wood paneling covers the walls lit softly by recessed lighting behind crash-pads upholstered in bantha calf leather. The main hold features a leather grav-couch, a holo-table programmed for numerous functions including dejarik, a state-of-the-art home theater system with a large view screen, and a galley appointed with high-end appliances. The passenger quarters feature carpeted floors, exotic wood armoires, and a large, ceiling-mounted holo-projector. The Courier -Class also comes equipped with a Hypertransceiver so that business can continue uninterrupted from anywhere in the galaxy.

Although the Courier -Class Shuttle, unlike other YT-series ships, has only 5 Emplacement Points, the ship is so well-rounded that most owners opt to use them to improve its Luxury Upgrade or extend its range. Combining CEC's reputation for solid engineering and functionality with Corellian style and luxury, the YT-1500LTs are fast becoming a very popular entry in the personal/business-class shuttle market.

The Corellian YT-1500LT Courier -Class Shuttle is surprisingly robust for a shuttle, and features a ventral turret pod to fend off enemy Starfighters while its powerful shields can absorb any laser-fire it can't dodge. Furthermore, the shuttle also features a controversial series of high-speed Combat Thrusters , giving it exceptional maneuverability against Capital Ships .

This has raised more than a few eyebrows among Imperial officials, who claim that CEC engineered the YT-1500LT to be able to avoid Imperial Customs Corvettes . CEC's team of attorneys, however, contend that the Courier -Class was designed for customers who live beyond The Mid Rim , where Imperial "protection" is often lacking entirely. To date, no legal action has been taken against CEC by Imperial authorities, and the Courier -Class Shuttle continues to be built in large numbers.

The YT-1500 also comes in a "freight" configuration popular among long-haulers and other shady types, and is cheaper than the standard version (125,000 (80,000 Used )). The YT-1500FP is a stripped-down version, lacking the Luxury Upgrade and Hypertransceiver but gaining an additional 2 Emplacement Points (for a total of 7).

The Vancouver -class courier is a non-combat spacecraft often employed by the Unified Earth Government as a cargo transport and diplomatic shuttle .

The Vancouver -class is capable of slipspace travel. The diplomatic shuttle Han was equipped with 40 cryo-chambers , allowing for a crew of two and a passenger count of 48. [1] Though the ship was designed for passenger comfort and had showers and a rotating midsection providing gravity, [Note 1] this left less room for the crew. In addition, the bridge was extremely small and lacked any form of artificial gravity . It had no combat capabilities or defensive measures. [2] [3]

The Vancouver -class is a fast, versatile and reliable courier ship. This combined with its cargo size and unique sensor features has allowed it to gain a large number of governmental contracts, and maintains a strong presence in the Inner Colonies . [1]

The ' Type S is one of the generic starship types. It is a 100-ton dispatch vessel of a type very common within human space . [1] It is an ubiquitous starship found within Charted Space . Many variant classes exist of this type, all based around similar designs and performance characteristics. Scout/Courier (Type S): Using a 100-ton Lifting Body hull, the scout/courier is intended for exploration, survey, and courier duties, with many in service throughout known space. It mounts jump drive -A, maneuver drive-A , and power plant-A , giving performance of Jump-2 and 2-G acceleration. A 22-ton fuel tank provides fuel for the power plant and provides sufficient fuel for one Jump-2. Adjacent to its bridge is a computer Model/1 bis . Detached duty versions have an open lounge where survey sensors would typically go. The ship is fitted with a dual turret ; the weaponry installed varies with the specific ship. The ship has a specially fitted hold which carries a single air/raft ; there is a separate three-ton cargo hold . There are four staterooms and no low berths . The hull is streamlined for atmospheric landings, and fuel scoops allow local refueling from oceans or gas giants . [5]

The Scout, by its nature, is built as a one-person operation: a single pilot who also doubles as navigator, engineer, and gunner, albeit inefficiently. Additional crew members to fill these slots may be hired on as desired. The ship costs MCr 29.43 (or more) and typically takes nine months to build. [6]

The venerable Type S is one of the smallest ships to mount a jump drive and is used in nearly every capacity imaginable from civilian , to paramilitary to military uses . They are relatively easy to find used and the basic hull is near endlessly modifiable. [7]

Scout Ship Overview [ edit ]

THE SCOUT/COURIER: One of the most common starships within the Third Imperium is the tested and tried type S scout/courier. Originally produced to specification for the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service , this sleek and simple ship was intended for common courier duties within the Imperium, and simple survey and exploration duties beyond the Imperial borders . [8]

While the xboat system provides fast forwarding of messages and information along the major xboat routes within the Imperium, it falls to the Scout Service's fleet of scout/couriers to relay information from worlds along the routes to outlying fringe worlds. The Jump-2 capability of the scout/courier places nearly all such worlds within its range. [9]

Beyond the Imperial borders (…and in relatively unexplored regions within the Imperium) the scout/courier is pressed into service as an exploratory vessel. It can roam through most areas, refuelling itself from gas giants or planetary oceans as necessary, checking up on local conditions, and filing reports when it returns from a mission. In some areas, an Exploratory Cruiser of perhaps 10,000 tons will carry a squadron of ten or more scout/couriers . As the cruiser passes through an area, individual scout/couriers will range ahead or to the flanks and perform actual data gathering missions. [10]

IISS Reserve Scout Ship Policy [ edit ]

It is the policy of the scout service to make available such surplus scout ships to selected individuals on a reserve basis. The vessels are (hopefully) put to good use while they are not required in service, and both the ship and its pilot are available for recall to duty when needed. Possession of the scout ship is at the pleasure of the scout service , and it cannot be sold by the character. Fuel is free at scout bases . Maintenance is free at the scout bases at class B starports . The traveller is responsible for both upkeep and crew costs. [11]

Because the scout/courier is a standard design, the Scout Service has a large quantity of the vessels on hand, with the natural result that some are sold at surplus and find their ways into private or commercial hands, while others are scrapped. In addition, however, many are diverted to a scout program called detached duty. Under the direction of the Scout Service's Detached Duty Office, some former or retired scout personnel are provided with scout/couriers for their own use. The ships are too small for profitable commercial operations, but they do serve as a form of reasonable transport for those with wanderlust. In addition, the Scout Service derives a reasonable intelligence return on its investment through the examination of the ships' logbooks when they are serviced, and through routine interrogation and debriefings of crews. Finally, such detached duty scout/couriers are subject to recall and activation (with crew) in the event of a war scare or mobilization alert. [12]

Courier ships could range in size from small, one- or two-man ships like those that ferried Yoshi Raph-Elan and B'dard Tone to their destinations, all the way up to larger ships like the YKL-37R Nova and BR-23 that could transport troops and bulk cargo. In addition, courier ships were often well-armed to provide security for their important shipments.

Most courier ships were built with speed as the biggest consideration, with no much attention paid to the interior facilities, resulting to uncomfortable conditions to pilots and passengers. [2]

What's in store for 2024 in Canal Fulton? New events, paddle boats, pickleball courts

Editor’s note: The Canton Repository asked leaders in  each of Stark County’s 17 townships, 11 villages and six cities  to share some highlights about what's in store for 2024 in their communities.

The responses include the return of some family-friendly events, a variety of new businesses and some much-needed improvements to longstanding structures. We will be presenting these community highlights to you throughout the upcoming months.

CANAL FULTON – New events , paddle boats, pickleball courts and a large water tower are coming to Canal Fulton this year.

Here is what’s in store for 2024 in the city of roughly 5,300 residents:

Towpath to Totality eclipse event set for April 8

The city is partnering with Stark Parks to host activities for residents and visitors who travel to the city to view the total solar eclipse, which is when the moon will block the face of the sun as it passes between the sun and Earth.

The Towpath to Totality  event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 8 at  St. Helena Heritage Park at 123 Tuscarawas St. NW.

The Great Lakes Science Center has provided a telescope with solar filters for eclipse observation and free solar eclipse glasses, which will be available first come, first served. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., free eclipse-themed activities will be offered, such as crafts, educational presentations and an obstacle course.

The partial solar eclipse will begin in Canal Fulton at 1:58 p.m. The total eclipse will begin at 3:14 p.m. and last  about two minutes .

Roughly 200 parking spots will be available at the park. Overflow parking will be available at the Lock 4 Trailhead.

Paddle boats available to rent

The city has purchased two paddle boats that will be available for rent as early as April.

Users can take the paddle boats, which can be rented, from the Canal Fulton Canalway Center at 125 Tuscarawas St. NW south to Lock 4.

The paddle boats will be available whenever the Canalway Center is open, which is typically on the weekends in April and the first half of May and then daily from mid-May until fall. City Council has yet to set the rental rates for the paddle boats, whose cost was offset by a $4,000 grant from the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition.

To reserve the paddle boats, call the Canalway Center at 330-854-6835. Walk-ins also will be accepted if a boat is available.

New Memorial Day event planned

A free event to honor the eight local military members who died during service and to celebrate the 70 th anniversary of the Canal Fulton Community Band will be held on May 26.

Mayor Joe Schultz said the event will include a dinner followed by a concert by the Canal Fulton Community Band. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will follow at 7 p.m. The event will be held at Northwest High School’s Puffenberger Hall.

The dinner, which is being prepared and donated by Clean Harbors, will include hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries. During the concert, a biography of each honored military member will be read and then followed by a song that the band felt reflects the honoree’s personality.

Schultz said tickets, which are free, will be available for up to 300 people. People can reserve their tickets beginning in late April by calling or visiting City Hall.

Other upcoming community events include: Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday; Jack Cullen Towpath Trail Trout Derby on April 27; Memorial Day parade on May 27; Father’s Day Car Show on June 16; Olde Canal Days from June 27 to 29; Haunted Canal Fulton from Oct. 17 to 19; and the Electric Lights Parade on Dec. 7.

Changes coming to St. Helena concert series, festivals

Free concerts and music festivals will return to the St. Helena Amphitheater in June under a new nonprofit organization with new rules.

David Thomas, who has presented the events with city support under his for-profit company TNT Marketing LLC for the past two years, is hosting the concerts and festivals independently this year under the nonprofit organization, K8 Event Team, which is named after his music-loving niece, Kate, who died of cancer at age 19.

The concerts and festivals will continue to be free, but the cost to park at St. Helena Heritage Park will increase from $10 to $15. Alcohol will be available for sale on site this year. Coolers, dogs, canopies and tents will not be allowed.

Besides offering food trucks once again, Thomas also is partnering with WanderLust Boutique to bring the WanderLust Market and its dozens of vendors to some of the festivals. Admission to the market will be free.

Net proceeds from the festivals and concerts will be donated to the Northwest Local Schools music department to help students who may need equipment or lessons, Thomas said.

The concert series lineup is Dirty Deeds on June 8; Kings Highway on July 13; Diamond Project on Aug. 10; In The Heartland on Aug. 17; Hard Day’s Night on Aug. 24; and Jersey on Sept. 7. Each concert will be from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

The festival lineup includes the 80s/90s Festival on June 15; Dance Fever Festival on July 20; Country Rock Festival on July 27; and Country Music Festival on Aug. 31. Each festival will be from 2 to 10 p.m.

Pickleball courts coming

Following the success of the Introduction to Pickleball classes last year, the city plans to create more pickleball courts this year.

Parks and Recreation Director Chris Bundy said one of the two tennis courts at Muhlhauser Park at 853 Locust St. S will be converted into four pickleball courts. He expects the courts to be ready for this summer.

The city will again offer its Intro to Pickleball Class this year for those wanting to learn the rules and strategies or to sharpen their skills. The classes will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 6-7, July 15-16 and Aug. 19-20. Cost is $30 for residents and $40 for nonresidents. To register, call 330-854-2225 or email [email protected].

Westside water tower to be built

The city plans to build a 125,000-gallon water storage tank, install 6,700 feet of waterlines and add a booster station to extend water service to nearly 40 city properties along Wooster Street and for possible future expansion.

The $4.3 million water tower project , which will be located near Cherton Street NW, is expected to begin this month and be completed in fall 2025.

The project will be paid by a $500,000 federal grant, a $2.1 million grant and nearly $1 million interest-free loan from the Ohio Public Works Commission, and an $800,000 low-interest loan through the Ohio Water Development Authority.

Some Northwest High School students also have been using the water tower project in their engineering classes. Teacher Jim Shiplett said one of his classes last semester tracked the progress of the project and discussed the numerous decisions that must be made along the way, as well as how multiple teams must work together to move the project forward. He plans to use the project again at the end of the current semester.
