POTRESTE INCONTRARLA IN CROCIERA - Sea Eagle II, 81 metri, è il più grande yacht a vela in alluminio al mondo, è stato consegnato con successo da Royal Huisman ed è in viaggio verso il Mediterraneo. E una goletta moderna a tre alberi davvero mozzafiato, invelata orgogliosamente da Doyle Sails

Progettare e costruire vele per soddisfare e superare i requisiti di una nave di questo calibro è una forma d'arte, una delle quali Richard Bouzaid e il team di progettazione di Doyle Sails sono orgogliosi di aver imparato. Nel corso degli ultimi due anni, si è svolto l'intricato processo in cui tutte le vele sono state modellate e testate utilizzando gli ultimi software disponibili nella progettazione delle vele, prima di essere costruite nella struttura Stratis all'avanguardia e rifinite da velisti di classe mondiale.

Royal Huisman ha varato e consegnato all'armatore acquirente il Sea Eagle II, il più grande yacht a vela in alluminio del mondo, ora in viaggio verso il Mediterraneo. Progettato e costruito per navigazioni oceaniche e per girare il mondo, Sea Eagle II è il massimo in fatto di prestazioni, lusso e affidabilità. 

Sea Eagle II, progettato da Dykstra Naval Architects e Mark Whiteley, sarà riconoscibilissima sui nostri mari questa estate: con una lunghezza complessiva di 81 m, è lo yacht più grande costruito nel cantiere di Royal Huisman e si unisce a un'altra costruzione Huisman - Athena - nella top 10 della classifica dei più grandi yacht a vela del mondo. È, in ogni caso, un superyacht che farà girare la testa.

La consegna di Sea EagleII è un momento di grande orgoglio per tutte le parti interessate ed è l'inizio di una grande avventura per il suo proprietario, famiglia, amici ed equipaggio, nonchè e del nuovo ruolo del cantiere come fornitore di servizi e assistenza all'equipaggio.

SAILING YACHT A – World’s Biggest Sailing Yacht – $600 Million

SAILING YACHT A measures 143 meters making her the world’s biggest sailing yacht.

SAILING YACHT A is far more than a luxury vessel. She is a masterpiece of design and innovation combining sleek metal surfaces with futuristic naval architecture that took over two years to complete.

Launched in 2017, both the interior and exterior of this mega sailing yacht were designed by Phillippe Starck, who calls SAILING YACHT A one of his most high-profile projects.

The superyacht has taken on voyages all around the world and was most recently spotted sailing off the coasts of Gibraltar and Cyprus.

Both the interior and exterior of SAILING YACHT A were designed by Philippe Starck , a French architect known for his wide range of design projects.

He famously worked on the impressive MOTOR YACHT A, and the two iconic vessels share a lot of similarities in their layout and specifications.

Both yachts look incredibly futuristic and are sure to attract attention wherever they go.

While no exact details are known about the interior of SAILING YACHT A, it is rumored that she has an underwater observation pod with 30 cm (1 ft) thick glass located in the keel of the vessel.

This is one of the few parts where design mockups are publicly available, and the style of the interior can be examined.

The observation pod appears to have cream upholstery that stretches across the floor and ceiling of the cabin.

Two large symmetrical glass windows allow guests to view the breathtaking underwater world without even having to leave the yacht.

A third window is located at the bottom of the pod, which lets it feel like a true 360-degree experience and is almost comparable to a submarine.

A small floating side table provides guests with a space to place drinks or snacks in the pod and enjoy a one-of-a-kind dining experience in this unusual location.

Since the pod is located at the keel of the yacht, the large propellers are most likely visible from the windows suggesting it is most commonly used at anchor.

The superyacht has ten cabins that can accommodate 20 guests as well as a further 54 crew member.

Paparazzi photos and the work of yacht spotters provide a rare glimpse into the interior of SAILING YACHT A.

No official footage of cabins or salons has been released, although Starck’s past work suggests that the yacht would be furnished with opulent elements that perfectly combine luxury with style.

Silver and metal decorations play a large role and tie the interior design of the yacht together. 

However, SAILING YACHT A was launched much later than her motorized companion suggesting her interior might be more modern with minimalistic elements rather than lavish furnishings.

Occasional photographs shot through open doors, and portholes show expensive art pieces decorating the interior of the yacht and rather absurd design choices like a set of chairs shaped like large human heads.

The yacht appears to feature a large, open salon with an elevated seating area and symmetrical arches on either side.

While details aren’t known to the public, it is rumored that SAILING YACHT A features a luxurious spa area, a sizable gym as well as an owner’s suite with several rooms that is only accessible via fingerprint.

The massive private area is said to feature a 60-inch television that disappears into the floor as well as a rotating bed. 

Considering she is the largest sailing yacht in the world, it is surprising that SAILING YACHT A can only host 20 guests.

This suggests that there are spacious entertainment areas located on board, including several saloons and ample below-deck space for crew members.

Due to her large size and a small number of cabins, it is assumed that SAILING YACHT A can welcome a large number of day guests onboard for special events and celebrations.

Biggest sailing yacht controversy

It has been the topic of debate that SAILING YACHT A is not the largest yacht in the world but instead the ‘largest sail-assisted motor yacht.

Depending on the definition used, that would make BLACK PEARL the biggest sailing yacht in the world.

The most expensive sailing yacht

SAILING YACHT A is the most expensive sailing yacht in the world and cost an estimated price of US $600 million – a relatively “affordable” price considering her large size and tonnage.

A calculated US $48,000 per ton is considered low in the yachting industry, where European yachts are usually priced at US $60,000 per ton and over.

This average price would bring the value of SAILING YACHT A up to nearly US $800 million. However, due to the fact that the official sales price has not been released to the public, these numbers are mere estimates and cannot be validated officially.

Since the yacht is a custom project and one of a kind, it can be assumed that the total value of SAILING YACHT A lies far higher than her initial price.

In addition to any cost for the crew, supplies, and docking fees, she has annual running costs of US $50-75 million.

SAILING YACHT A is currently not available for sale or charter.

Specifications

SAILING YACHT A is incredibly large for a sailing yacht, and even compared to the longest motor yachts in the world, she would rank in the top ten.

Paired with her unusual futuristic design, this mega sailing yacht has a length of 143 meters (469 ft), a beam of 25 meters (82 ft), and a draft of 8 meters (26 ft) making her a more than an impressive vessel.

SAILING YACHT A was built by Nobiskrug , a German superyacht builder at their Kiel shipyard, and launched in 2017 after more than two years of construction.

To date, SAILING YACHT A is the largest yacht ever built by Nobiskrug and remains their flagship.

It is considered the most complicated project to ever be completed in the sailing industry and gained international media attention on its launch date. It has a total volume of 12.558 tons and is powered by hybrid diesel-electric engines. 

SAILING YACHT A is considered the longest sailing yacht in the world and is more than 36 meters (118 ft) longer than BLACK PEARL, which ranks in second place on the list.

Coincidentally her project name was WHITE PEARL which is a reference to her brilliant white exterior, although it couldn’t have referred to BLACK PEARL since she was only launched in 2018, a year after Melnichenko’s masterpiece.  

Her three-carbon masts stand at an impressive 100 meters (328 ft), making them some of the largest in the world and taller than Big Ben in London.

However, her large size is sometimes also limiting as she struggles to fit underneath most bridges and is therefore constrained to certain routes.

She once passed under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco with only 20 feet to spare between her masts and the bottom of the famous bridge.

She is rumored to have an electric gimbal crow’s nest, which allows for remote operation and advanced wind measurements. Her sails are all white, and her masts have nearly sickle-like shapes, which add to her striking futuristic appearance.

It is noteworthy that she is commonly photographed with her sails down, which suggests she might be using her support engines more frequently than true wind power.

With a sail area of more than 3.700m^2 (40.000 square ft), she can reach top speeds of up to 21 knots which is supported by her twin 4895 Horsepower MTU engines .

Her average cruise speed lies at 16 knots, and her total range is estimated to lie at 5320 nautical miles. She features a state-of-the-art sail system that is able to raise and lower the sails and anchors at the touch of a button. 

SAILING YACHT A has a steel hull and composite steel superstructure, which is unusual in the superyacht industry as most shipyards choose aluminum to reduce weight and keep the vessel light.

She currently sails under the flag of Bermuda, which is common for prominent sailing yachts.

During construction, SAILING YACHT A was called project WHITE PEARL, a fitting name for this sizable vessel.

Like her interior, the exterior of SAILING YACHT A was designed by Philippe Starck, although the Dutch studio Dykstra Naval Architects played a role in the naval architecture of the vessel.

They specialize in sailing yachts of all sizes and have been involved in many prominent projects in the industry over the years.

She features eight teak decks with a large swimming pool located in the center and several elevators spread across the yacht.

She is even said to carry a submarine. The main pool is lowered into the deck allowing for additional privacy for the owners.

Her hull has 24 shell doors, which are used to access equipment and provide additional deck space if needed. She is accompanied by four tenders also designed by Philippe Starck and built by Lloyd Stevenson in New Zealand.

Their sleek and elegant design matches that of the main vessel, and they are used for transporting guests and taking them on excursions.

One of the tenders of SAILING YACHT A is a carbon fiber speedboat especially reserved for the owner who can operate the vessel autonomously whenever required without the aid of crew members.

This allows Melnichenko, who is a fan of driving high-speed cars to be independent when staying aboard his luxury yacht. The tender is small but powerful, reaching speeds of up to 53 knots.

The larger tenders can seat up to eight passengers and feature panoramic windows ideal for sightseeing and exploring but are much slower at only 30 knots. 

The aft features a large garage used for storing jet skis, tenders, and other equipment.

High-profile artists such as Snoop Dogg are rumored to have performed here, although detailed evidence of such concerts remains unknown.

Whenever the aft isn’t used for performances or parties, it can be transformed into a swimming platform designed in the yacht’s iconic futuristic style. 

However, despite her cutting-edge design features, SAILING YACHT A surprisingly also includes classic nautical elements. She has a wooden steering wheel that is reminiscent of a pirate ship, although it is not operational.

The captain of the vessel can instead use modern technologies to operate the massive yacht via a small joystick and touchscreen.

There are symmetric extendable balconies that protrude from the bridge of the yacht and allow the crew to have a better view to be able to gauge the dimensions of the immense vessel.

Of course, SAILING YACHT A has a modern underwater lighting system that illuminates the vessel perfectly at night.

Black Pearl, la vera storia della più grande barca a vela al mondo

Il nome di questa nave, Black Pearl, è impegnativo, La Perla Nera , proprio come quella di Jack Sparrow di Pirati dei Caraibi.

Ma sono impegnative anche le sue dimensioni, 106,7 metri fuori tutto , che ne fanno la più lunga di sempre dietro solo alla famosa A , lunga 142 metri, disegnata da Philippe Stark, ma che non può essere ritenuta una vera barca a vela, non solo per motivi puramente stilistici (… non è che ci assomigli molto), ma anche per motivi burocratici, in quanto registrata come “ sail-assisted motor yacht “.

Ma piuttosto impegnativa, e complicata, è anche la storia della sua nascita. Certa è la maternità, è stata realizzata in acciaio (scafo) e alluminio (le sovrastrutture) dalla olandese Oceanco , specializzata in megayacht a vela e a motore, e ufficialmente consegnata poche settimane fa.

Il progetto nasce però nel 2012 e la barca ha toccato l’acqua a fine 2016 . Da allora ad oggi una sconfinata serie di collaudi e messe a punto.

“ Nel 2012 – racconta lo studio italiano responsabile del design di interni ed esterni, Nuvolari Lenard – siamo stati presentati all’armatore di Black Pearl da Moran Yacht e Ship , ben noto broker di Fort Lauderdale e poi ingaggiati per provvedere al design di interni ed esterni, selezionati al termine di una selezione tra i più importanti yacht designer al mondo “.

Tutto semplice, quindi? Non così tanto, perché Black Pearl nasce sulle ceneri di un precedente progetto : “All’inzio del nostro progetto abbiamo cominciato a lavorare sulla “naval platform” di un 98 metri sviluppato anni primi, ai fini di una proposta, da un altro studio di progettazione con cui l’armatore non aveva più rapporti” . La “ naval platform ” comprende tutti i dati e i progetti relativi agli aspetti tecnici di uno yacht.

Ma la sua realizzazione è opera anche di molte altre menti: lo scafo è stato infatti realizzato da Dykstra Naval Architets , che si è occupato anche dello spettacolare armo DynaRig a tre alberi in carbonio da 70 metri di altezza .

Le vele, per un totale di 2.700 metri quadrati , possono essere avvolte o spiegate (spingendo dei semplici bottoni) in 7 minuti. 

Ha partecipato al progetto anche BMT Nigel Gee che ha invece provveduto a mettere a punto un sofisticato sistema di propulsione ibrida, oltre ad altri impianti di bordo.

Degli interni di Black Pearl non si hanno immagini, ma sono anche loro frutto della creatività di Nuvolari Lenard, in particolare di  Valentina Zannier , Partner e Head of Interior Design dello studio veneziano, con cui ha collaborato il francese Gerard Villate che ha curato alcuni dettagli. Lo stile? Luigi XVI , con moltissimi richiami all’ Art Deco . Il tutto, anche qui, realizzato in collaborazione tra i designer e l’armatore.

Black Pearl in sala macchine ha due MTU da 12 cilindri a V e 2.000 CV di potenza ciascuno può raggiungere i 17,5 nodi di velocità massima .

Il mare dell'Argentario è ormai il "Blu Carpet" dei più famosi yacht del mondo, è alla fonda in questi giorni e si fa ammirare per la sua maestosità il panfilo a tre alberi Atlantic di 69 metri, la più grande goletta da regata classica che sia mai stata ricreata, costruita nel 2010 identica a quella leggendaria omonima del 1903 e Artemare Club grazie alla collaborazione del comandante Mario Ballini del Bar Giulia d'Autore è riuscito a documentarla per l'archivio dei "150 anni dello Yachting" all'Argentario" custodito presso la sede dell'Associazione nel Corso antico di Porto Santo Stefano.

L'attuale Atlantic, è stato commissionato da Ed Kastelein presso il cantiere navale Van der Graaf BV, con la consulenza del famoso e compianto Doug Peterson, che era di casa a Porto Santo Stefano,  a Hardinxveld-Giessendam nei Paesi Bassi. Il varo iniziale è avvenuto nel marzo 2008 e la goletta è stata completata nel giugno 2010, gli interni sono stati progettati da Sophie Kastelein-Bouakel con Michael Vedder. Nel 2011 è stata premiata con il "World Superyacht Awards" come il più bel veliero al mondo nelle imbarcazione a vela sopra il 45 metri di lunghezza.

Il vecchio Atlantic fu commissionato dal socio del New York Yacht Club Wilson Marshall e progettato da William Gardner, uno dei più famosi designer americani di grandi yacht di allora, realizzato dai cantieri Townsend e Downey fu varato nel 1903  e già dalle prime prove in mare fu chiaro che era una goletta eccezionalmente veloce e bella.

Due anni dopo questo yacht stabilì un record che ha resistito per quasi un secolo,  l'attraversamento transatlantico più veloce  da parte di  un monoscafo coprendo  le 3006 miglia di distanza tra l'America e l'Inghilterra con un tempo di 12 giorni, 4 ore, 1 minuto e 19 secondi, primato sempre ricordato perché il   più lungo nella storia della nautica da diporto,  battuto dopo quasi 100 anni nel 1997 dallo yacht a vela   Nicorette che completò la traversata in 11 giorni 13 ore e 22 minuti. Tra l'altro a differenza delle altre   golette da competizione, Atlantic era particolarmente lussuosa e accogliente a bordo. Nel tempo il panfilo ebbe diversi passaggi di proprietà e impiegato per usi civili e militari, ricevendo riconoscimenti e premi e oggetto di libri e per molti rappresenta la goletta da corsa più famosa e amata di tutti i tempi, demolita nel 1982.

E' uno spettacolo unico indimenticabile vedere questa bellissimo maxi yacht che solca le onde a vele spiegate con uno stile senza tempo, parola di Artemare Club!

Genova – Non è passato inosservato in porto a Genova l’arrivo del super yacht a vela Black Pearl che ha ormeggiato al Waterfront Marina del gruppo Amico & Co. L’affascinante veliero a tre alberi, secondo al mondo per dimensione, ha scelto il capoluogo ligure per effettuare una sosta tecnica di alcune settimane prima di dare il via alla stagione estiva.

Black Pearl misura 107 metri di lunghezza ed è stato costruito dai cantieri olandesi Oceanco. Varato nel 2016, è stato consegnato nel 2018 ad un magnate russo defunto e batte bandiera Cayman Islands.

I suoi 3 alberi sono realizzati in carbonio e hanno un altezza di 70 metri; dotato del sistema armo DynaRig – una particolare tecnologia di propulsione ad alta efficienza del vento –  gli alberi sono capaci di dispiegare circa 2.700 metri quadrati di vele in pochi minuti.

Black Pearl è equipaggiato con un sistema di propulsione ibrido e dispone inoltre di un grande banco batterie: caratteristiche che lo rendono molto efficiente dal punto di vista energetico.

Per i prossimi giorni il veliero farà dunque bella mostra di sè insieme ai 34 altri superyacht che sono presenti sulle banchine del cantiere e della marina Amico & Co.

The History of the Vela al Terzo, the Adriatic's traditional sail

The Adriatic Sea, situated between the Italian and Balkan peninsulas, has been a crucial intersection of diverse cultures, trade routes, and naval powers throughout history. The traditional boats of Adriatic seafaring have always used the wind as their main propulsion method. The sail equipment of these boats had a natural evolution over time, a process that came to an abrupt halt with the advent of motor propulsion.

The most iconic and traditional sail used throughout the Upper Adriatic is the vela al terzo (literally: "sail to the third"), a peculiar kind of lug sail, trapezoidal in shape and stretched by means of an upper and a lower pennone (yard). The name vela al terzo comes from the size of the portion of the sail that is in front of the mast, which is one-third the size of the portion behind the mast.

The Vela al Terzo is the result of centuries of evolution and refinement. beginning in the late 1500s and early 1600s. Before that time, the most common sail in the Adriatic was the medieval Latin sail, either in its triangular form, which was most common, or in the form with a cut front end, typical of the Central Mediterranean.

At the same time, inland only rarely on the sea, the tall and narrow rectangular sail, typical of the Pre-Alpine Lakes and some rivers of the Po Valley, was used. This kind of sail is extremely old, and it originated perhaps in Roman times, and we know that it was widely used in the early Middle Ages: it was very simple, only ideal for sailing with a tailwind. But it could also be angled by tying one sheet to the mast and pulling the other aft: it was, simplified, the same kind of rigging already in use in Roman times ( pedem facere ) in order to catch the wind from angled directions. This arrangement was later consolidated in new equipment and rigging such as the "lower yardarm" a "boom," the "drizza di penna," and the "botina".

The contact between the rectangular sail and the maritime Latin sail, led to an exchange of experiences from which the vela al terzo was born. The process probably took place around the beginning of the 1600s, at a time when the sails of the Renaissance tradition were beginning to undergo the changes suggested by oceanic navigation: the Latin Sail in some cases was replaced by the mainsail while the vela di civada, at the bow under the bowsprit, gave way to the more practical triangular polaccone .

In this framework there evolved variants and local adaptations of the rectangular Po Valley sail such as the vela al quarto , but as far as our Adriatic traditions are concerned, boats with a vela al terzo and a polaccone took over Venetian lagoon area. Towards the end of the 1600s, the vela al terzo quickly began to spread throughout the Adriatic, at first coexisting with the Latin sail. The result of this expansion was that, by the end of the 1800s, the vela al terzo was the only kind of sail used along the entire Western Coast of the Adriatic: from the Venetian Lagoon to Ancona and often as far as Dalmatia, Apulia, and Greece. When the trabaccolo became the most widespread medium-large boat in the Adriatic, the presence of the vela al terzo was consolidated and extended to other types of boats, such as the paranza, and the lancia (or lancetta).

It is this latter kind of vessel — slimmed down somewhat to be more nimble as a pure sailboat — that was used as the main template for the design of the DonMar, co-designed in 1969 by my uncle Carlo and Paquale Iurini, founder of the historical Jurini shipyard in Numana and master shipwright. While in the area of the Venice lagoon there still is a strong tradition of historical boats rigged with a vela al terzo , as of today the DonMar is the only such sailboat still active in the entire Marche region.

Buonasera, la difficoltà riguardava il “mezzo di trasporto”, poiché, come è scritto nel pezzo, ci siamo mossi in kayak. Per quanto riguarda la velocità, si tratta semplicemente di una svista. La ringrazio della segnalazione.
