Rent A Boat

If you’ve been looking for a place to take your family this summer, Seven Points Marina in Hesston , Pa. , is a top choice to consider for your home away from home. The marina is unique because you can rent from a wide selection of one of their 19 cozy houseboats. Spending some quality time with your family was never more fun; being able to swim, fish, and even grill up some burgers on the lake will entertain you and your family all week long.

Each houseboat is equipped with patio furniture, a gas grill, heating and A/C units, and kitchen utensils and cookware, assuring you will feel right at home. They also have a full bath and shower, and most boats come with a slide and a hot tub.

“They are constantly upgrading and replacing every season,” added Frock. “They want you to have a great experience and do what they can to make that happen.”

Houseboat drivers with little-to-no experience are welcome as well, and the marina can provide you with a temporary boater certificate that’ll be good for the entirety of your stay at Seven Points. When checking in, you must present a current license and proof of boat insurance and the maximum size for docking is 24 feet. Transient docks charge by day or by week.

Only in the area for a few days? The marina offers a two-hour narrated tour on their Princess Lake Cruiser. Relax as you are immersed in beautiful scenery—the boat travels around the shocking blue waters of Pennsylvania ’s largest lake surrounded by mountains covered in blooming foliage and stops at the breast of the dam. Many times, you will get the chance to see some resident wildlife, including bald eagles and sometimes even bears! The tour boat is available for private charters for reunions, weddings, and parties, as well.

Surrounding Area

The Raystown Lake region is full of trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and motorcycling. The Allegrippis Trails have more than 30 miles of stacked-loop trails used all summer long. Ritz-Carlton releases images of its second superyacht, and it looks stunning

Tanner Saunders

Over the last several years, major luxury hotel brands like Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton have been making waves (literally) in the cruise space by introducing a series of luxury yachts to deliver the brands' high-end service out on the seas.

While we'll have to wait until 2025 to see the Four Seasons yachts , the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection already has one ship, Evrima , sailing. The collection's second ship, Ilma, is currently under construction at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France — and now we have new renderings of the ship so would-be luxury sailors can have a taste of what the onboard experience will feel like.

yacht 7 points

Measuring in at 790 feet, the superyacht is a marriage of design by AD Associates, Aivan and DPA, and is named after the Maltese word for water. According to a statement from the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, both the interior and exterior design invite guests "to soak in the azure waters and coastlines it sails."

Ilma's first sailing is set to be a seven-night voyage from Monte Carlo, Monaco, to Rome on Sept. 2.

yacht 7 points

On Ilma, there are 224 suites offering floor-to-ceiling windows to watch the world sail by, private terraces to enjoy the salty sea air, marble-filled bathrooms with Diptyque amenities, espresso machines, minibars, premium Wi-Fi, a personal concierge and 24-hour in-room dining.

yacht 7 points

Restaurants on board include Tides, the main restaurant serving fresh, seasonal food inspired by the destinations visited; Seta, an Italian restaurant; Memori, a Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar; and the Peruvian beach club-inspired indoor-outdoor restaurant Beach House, designed by Toronto's Chapi Chapo Design, which features an infinity pool.

And while days will be spent exploring beautiful destinations or lounging by the main pool on Deck 10, guests can take time to relax at the Ritz-Carlton Spa to take advantage of a sauna, steam room, 11 treatment rooms and full-service salon (and barber).

yacht 7 points

Other key features of Ilma include an observation terrace with panoramic views; a cigar lounge; a luxury boutique; the Living Room, which hosts live music and DJ events; and a gym with fitness classes, a cycle studio and other typical gym equipment.

Kids are welcome on Ilma, and there's even a kids club that offers educational activities and good, old-fashioned fun.

But most interestingly, as TPG's cruise expert Gene Sloan previously reported , Ilma is set to potentially be the most spacious cruise ship ever built.

yacht 7 points

How to book

Ilma's inaugural season will see the yacht sailing around the Mediterranean , with the first itinerary departing from Monte Carlo and stopping in popular spots like Saint-Tropez and Cannes in France and Porto Cervo and Rome in Italy, among others. Advertised fares for that seven-night sailing start at $10,300.

Fares are significantly less for future sailings, including $5,900 for a seven-night cruise from Puerto Rico to Barbados and $5,400 for a six-night round-trip sailing from Barbados .

Can you earn or use Marriott Bonvoy points?

Yes, Marriott Bonvoy members can earn 5 points per $1 spent on cruise fares as well as hotel packages at participating Marriott hotels booked through the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

Unfortunately, redeeming Bonvoy points isn't as lucrative as one would hope; members can redeem 180,000 points for $1,000 off cruise fare, then increments of 90,000 points to get an additional $500 off.

Bonvoy elite members also get special perks, depending on status, including welcome gifts, private receptions, priority boarding, laundry and pressing, and early access to dining reservations.

Check out our full guide to the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection to learn more about elite benefits, redemptions and earnings.

'It’s horrific': Driver in deadly Swan Boat Club crash breaks her silence

yacht 7 points

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — The driver in the deadly Swan Boat Club crash, Marshella Chidester, sat down exclusively with 7 News Detroit to share what happened from her point of view after she ran her car into a children’s birthday party in April. She says there are two sides to every story and wanted to speak publicly about the incident for the first time.

Chidester, 66, says she’s disturbed by the incident, has been praying for the victims and claims it was all one big accident caused by her plethora of medical conditions.

“I just want people to know how very, very disturbed I am by the situation. I don’t remember what happened. I can only say that I’ve been praying for everyone that’s been injured,” Chidester told us at her home, which is just feet from the boat club.

Hear more from Chidester in the video player below:

On April 20, prosecutors claim Chidester was under the influence of alcohol and drove her car into the boat club, killing two siblings , 4-year-old Zayn and 8-year-old Alanah Phillips. Over a dozen others were injured.

Zayn and Alanah Phillips

Chidester is charged with multiple charges including second-degree murder and operating under the influence causing death.

She refutes the charges and claims the entire incident was one horrible medical episode gone wrong.

Marshella Chidester

“I would never ever do anything intentional — never. I mean, that’s just not me, especially to a boat club that I love so much, and I have family and friends there,” Chidester said.

Chidester, who is an Army veteran, is a longtime member of the club and even had her wedding there.

She claims she doesn’t remember anything that led to the crash due to her neuropathy and heart problems. She also says she has a history of seizures and her memory goes out during her episodes, which is what she says believes happened that day. She hadn't driven after her latest seizure in October. After six months seizure-free she felt comfortable getting behind the wheel when she believes it happened again April 20.

“I think I had a seizure,” Chidester said. “I think when I got in the car, that’s what happened — had the seizure, put my foot on the accelerator and into the building.”

Chidester talks more about the medical conditions in the video player below:

The prosecution disagrees and made that clear in her arraignment a few weeks back.

“There was a preliminary breath test done, which indicated that her blood alcohol level was significantly over the legal limit,” prosecuting attorney Jeffery Yorkey said during Chidester’s arraignment.

VIDEO: Zayn and Alanah Phillips' aunt speaks at Chidester's arraignment

We reached out to the Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough to get Chidester's toxicology reports, but were told nothing related to the case is being released at this time.

Chidester told us she has a perfect driving record.

“I don’t even have a parking ticket. I don’t have any kind of DUI or speeding ticket. I was just devastated,” she said.

Chidester's attorney, Bill Colovos, said that she wouldn't answer any questions about her alcohol use or what led up to her getting in her car that day because she cannot speak to things she does not remember.

Colovos explains why he stopped Chidester from answering questions about alcohol in the video below:

"She has no memory and I don't want her, my client, or anyone to testify or to make statements based on what other people have told her," Colovos said.

Chidester posted her $1.5 million bond three weeks ago and remains at her home with an ankle monitor.

That is a point the families of the victims are heartbroken about as they continue to grieve the situation.

VIDEO: Families of Swan Boat Club crash victims come together to remember the lives lost

“Has the severity sunk in of those two children losing their lives?” we asked Chidester.

“Oh gosh, yes. I pray for them every day. I can’t imagine. It’s horrific. And what’s even more horrific for me is I wake up every day and I can’t remember," she responded through tears.

Chidester is due back in court in June 27 for a preliminary exam, where a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence for her to stand trial.

Boater's video shows her finding dozens of discarded party balloons in waters off Dana Point coast

KABC logo

DANA POINT, Calif. (KABC) -- A family's boat trip off the coast of Dana Point turned frustrating after seeing the amount of trash that's ending up in our oceans.

They were shocked by the dozens of balloons they fished out of the sea.

"There's literally three birds chilling next to a balloon," Kiana Ting is heard saying in a video she recorded while out on the water.

As she pulls a large, deflated Mylar balloon out of the Pacific by hand, she is heard exclaiming, "Are you serious?! What about Mother Earth?!"

It was one of the many helium-filled balloons from Mother's Day, graduations and other ceremonies that are landing in the ocean.

Ting says it's heartbreaking because the balloons are detrimental to marine life.

Her father, who runs a charter boat business, is offering weekly ocean clean-up trips for volunteers.

Homelessness count increases by 3% from last year, Point-in-Time Count reveals

The volunteers found no less than 10,605 people in the count, which included 6,110 unsheltered and 4,495 people in shelters and transitional housing, by city news service • published may 22, 2024 • updated 19 mins ago.

The number of people experiencing homelessness in San Diego County in 2024 increased by an estimated 3% over the previous year, according to data released Wednesday from January's Point-in-Time Count.

The count, conducted by more than 1,700 volunteers spread across San Diego County through the Regional Task Force on Homelessness, is a one-day snapshot of the minimum number of people experiencing homelessness throughout the region. The volunteers found no less than 10,605 people in the count, which included 6,110 unsheltered and 4,495 people in shelters and transitional housing.

Those numbers -- while nominally less than in 2023 -- do include an 18% increase in unsheltered people.

In 2023, the number jumped up around 20% from the previous year.

"While a 3% increase is encouraging, we counted more people in unsheltered conditions across the region," said RTFH CEO Tamera Kohler. "We're seeing a significant increase in people living in their cars. This year's numbers suggest we have a continuing need for more sheltering options and support for the efforts many cities are now taking to combat this crisis.

"We must focus on populations like seniors, veterans, and people living in cars, where proven housing strategies can make a difference in the months and years ahead," she said.

According to the count, the number of homeless people increased by around 200 in each region of the county. The numbers also reflect a 44% increase in people living in their cars and a decrease in shelter or other temporary housing options.

"The 18% increase in those without shelter means that there are many more people living on the streets this year than last," said Deacon Jim Vargas, president and CEO at Father Joe's Villages. "It is crucial that we continue working toward expanding the number of shelter types available, including adding detox beds that can help those with substance use disorder move toward recovery. Additionally, we must prioritize the building of affordable housing throughout our region."

RTFH leaders said they weren't surprised by the count's findings, owing to a loss of federal emergency funding, including hotel/motel vouchers, and a shift toward safe sleeping and safe parking sites in several communities.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, safe sleeping and safe parking sites count as being unsheltered. In San Diego alone, 472 people were counted in the safe sleeping sites, and 285 individuals were in the safe parking sites.

"San Diegans should feel cautious optimism about this data," said RTFH Board Chair Ray Ellis. "While we are still seeing too many experiencing homelessness for the first time, our region is making the right kind of investments in critical system infrastructure and programs that make a difference."

Monthly reports created by RTFH show the region has not seen a month since March 2022 when more individuals exited homelessness than experienced homelessness for the first time, a 25-month streak.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said that sustained efforts were working to bring down the total number, but more work was needed -- citing several projects he was pushing.

"While this trend is promising, it is further proof that now is not the time to retreat or become stagnant in our efforts to address homelessness, but rather to double down," he said. "It is all the more reason why the city of San Diego must follow through on my proposal to add 1,000 shelter beds to our homeless services system, transform H Barracks into a Safe Parking lot for people living in their vehicles, and continue to build more housing.

"Homelessness can only be solved with an unwavering commitment to the measures that work," Gloria said.

Additionally, the report finds, that from October 2022 to September 2023, the region's homeless response system interacted with more than 46,000 individuals, up from 41,000 the previous year.

"I hope this is the high water mark," said Continuum of Care Advisory Board Chair Pastor Rolland Slade. "Our board is proud of the work that communities, non-profits, religious groups and others are embracing.

"Vista opening up a navigation center, the county increasing funding for RTFH's diversion practice, Imperial Beach hiring a full-time outreach worker - these actions add up and are crucial to slowing down what has been an accelerated crisis," he said. "There's a lot more work to do but this is good progress."

Volunteers ask demographic questions of people they find experiencing homelessness. In 2024's report, they began the reporting of Hispanic ethnicity along with race for the first time.

According to the report's data, seniors experiencing homelessness saw less than a 1% decrease, while those found at Caltrans sites declined by 10%. A total of 81% of all those counted in the region said they first experienced homelessness in the county.

The 2024 count reports the number of San Diego County residents experiencing homelessness who are age 55 and older trending up at 30% of those counted, up from 29% in 2023 and 25% in 2022.

"Almost half of all older adults experiencing homelessness are homeless for the first time in their lives, and nearly half are disabled," said Serving Seniors CEO Paul Downey. "We also see a 15% increase in adults over 55 living in their vehicles, which is a troubling trend. One in five older adults experiencing homelessness is using a car or other vehicle as housing.

"The camping ban has merely redistributed the population of people who are homeless. Spreading out the problem is not humane nor cost effective," Downey said, referencing the ordinance in the city of San Diego passed in July 2023 which bans camps near schools, shelters and transit hubs, in parks, and -- if shelter beds are available -- on public sidewalks. The county is drafting a similar law.

The oldest person found experiencing unsheltered homelessness was an 85-year-old Hispanic woman.

"Our biggest challenge remains the sky-high cost of housing across our region," Kohler said. "The long-term need for abundant housing for people of all income levels remains apparent. There are still too few units and too much need.

"Yet I'm heartened by this report. There are interventions for many of the populations we've seen an increase in that can make a real difference," she said. "Communities across the county, from Vista to National City, San Diego to La Mesa, are leaning into game-changer solutions. If we can keep people housed, quickly end homelessness for those sleeping in their cars, and continue to target vulnerable populations, San Diego has a fighting chance to see real change moving forward."

In 2023, the count found no less than 10,264 individuals experiencing homelessness across the region. This number included 5,171 unsheltered San Diegans with 5,093 individuals in shelters and transitional housing.

Coast Guard says Alaska charter boat likely capsized last year after flooding, killing 5

  • Copy Link copied

SITKA, Alaska (AP) — A fishing charter boat found partially submerged off an island in southeast Alaska last May likely capsized after its well deck flooded in rough seas, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which investigated the incident that left five people dead, including two vacationing sisters and their partners.

More than 100 people attended the Coast Guard’s town hall-style presentation in Sitka last week on the findings of its investigation, the Daily Sitka Sentinel reported .

Investigators said survival options were limited once the 30-foot (9-meter) boat, Awakin, capsized on May 28, 2023; the vessel was not required to carry an emergency raft. The boat, which was found off Low Island, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) west of Sitka, had minimal provisions for draining water from the well deck, the Coast Guard’s lead investigator, Cmdr. Nate Menefee, said.

“The initiating event of the Awakin’s casualty was a sudden flooding of Awakin’s well deck by a large swell,” Menefee said. “This was impacted by positioning the vessel close to Low Island in shallow water and at low tide, which brought the vessel to a hazardous area, increasing the likelihood of encountering large swells and breaking surf. The navigation of Awakin near Low Island is a major factor of this incident. Flooding the vessel’s well deck and limited drainage openings would have substantially impacted vessel stability.”

Menefee said there is a degree of uncertainty around the final minutes of the trip and added that the Coast Guard “cannot definitively say exactly what caused Awakin to capsize.” There were no witnesses and no distress calls received, the Coast Guard said.

At 2:43 p.m. on May 28, the boat’s tracking system recorded its last known location, just south of Low Island near a well-known fishing spot. One of the passengers trapped in the cabin tried five times to make emergency calls on their cellphone between 3:01 and 3:12 p.m., but no calls connected. A text message recovered from the phone’s draft messages folder read “Call 911” but was unsent.

The last photos recovered from a phone were taken at 2:43 p.m. and show a passenger holding a rockfish.

The lodge where the charter originated reported the boat overdue around 5:30 p.m. A Coast Guard helicopter launched at 6:55 p.m. and shortly thereafter located the boat, partially submerged. While the Coast Guard aims to maintain 30-minute readiness for launching a helicopter, it took longer that day because of fueling issues.

Those who died were charter guide Morgan Robidou, 32; Brandi Tyau, 56, and her partner Robert Solis, 61, of Canoga Park, California; and Danielle Agcaoili, 53, and her husband, Maury Agcaolli, 57, of Waipahu, Hawaii. Autopsies determined drowning was the cause of death of the four whose bodies were recovered .

Mavericks vs. Timberwolves odds, Game 1 picks, TV channel, live stream, how to watch Western Conference finals

Expect a slow, defense-driven series in these western conference finals.

luka-doncic-mavericks-g.jpg

It's Game 1 of the Western Conference finals on Wednesday night as the Minnesota Timberwolves host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1. It's a battle of star guards as Dallas' Luka Doncic (who was named to the All-NBA First Team on Wednesday night) squares off with Minnesota's Anthony Edwards (who was a Second-Team pick). Both players are trying to make the NBA Finals for the first time.

Here's the info for Game 1:

Wolves vs. Mavericks -- Game 1 info

Time : 8:30 p.m ET |  Date : Wednesday, May 22 Location : Target Center -- Minneapolis TV channel : TNT |  Streaming:  TNT app, Max Odds : DAL +152, MIN -180, O/U: 206.5

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Dallas Mavericks

This is a tough one. The Timberwolves have won both of their Game 1s this postseason. The Mavericks have lost both of theirs. Dallas has the rest advantage not only from having finished their series on Saturday vs. Sunday for Minnesota, but having played only six games last round instead of seven like the Timberwolves. There's also the hangover factor here. The Timberwolves were built to beat the Nuggets . Knocking off the champs must have felt closer to winning an actual championship than anything this team has experienced before, and they celebrated the win a bit more than you'd typically expect out of a second-round series. With all of that in mind, I'm taking the points here. Dallas can easily win outright, but at the very least, I expect this game to be close. The Pick: Mavericks +4

The Timberwolves held the Nuggets below 100 points in all four of their wins last round. The Mavericks held the Thunder 6.5 points per 100 possessions below their season-long offensive rating. The Mavericks had an offensive rebounding rate of 33.2% in the Thunder series, which would have ranked second in the NBA in the regular season, where they ranked 25th. They aren't going to be able to create all of those second chances against the much bigger Timberwolves. This is going to be a slow, defense-driven series. The Pick: Under 206.5

I picked the under on Luka Doncic's point total in four of the six games against the Thunder. He ultimately averaged 24.7 points per game against the Thunder. A lot for most players, barely anything for him, but remember, Oklahoma City was doubling him constantly to try to get the ball out of his hands. Minnesota may get there eventually -- as they did with Nikola Jokic  -- but they'll likely start the series by giving Jaden McDaniels a chance to guard him one-on-one to prevent the onslaught of corner 3's the Thunder had to deal with. The result should be early scoring in this series for Doncic. The Pick: Doncic Over 28.5 Points
