Ocean Victory Yacht Death

In December of 2019, tragedy struck when a yacht called the Ocean Victory became involved in an accident that resulted in the death of two passengers. The boat had been carrying 16 people at the time, and it is believed that a malfunctioning engine caused it to capsize off the coast of Florida. All those aboard were rescued from the water by nearby boats, but unfortunately two individuals died as a result of their injuries. This tragedy serves as a reminder to all boaters to take extra caution when out on the open waters and ensure proper safety protocols are being followed.

Who Owns the Superyacht Ocean Victory?

The superyacht OCEAN VICTORY is owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. This massive vessel was first launched in 2014 and has an impressive length of 282 feet. It can house up to 14 guests in its luxurious cabins, as well as a crew of 37 people on board. The yacht comes equipped with all the modern amenities one would expect from a luxury ship, such as sauna, Jacuzzi and gym facilities, plus plenty of space for entertaining guests or just relaxing in the open air. It also features two large swimming pools, cinema rooms and even a helipad for quick trips ashore or back to shore after an adventure out at sea. OCEAN VICTORY is certainly an awe-inspiring sight when it’s out cruising around some of Europe’s most exclusive ports – no doubt testament to its billionaire owner’s style!

How Much is Ocean Victory Worth?

The value of a superyacht is determined by its size, age, features and condition. OCEAN VICTORY is one of the world’s most luxurious yachts, built in 2020 and measuring 73 meters (240 feet) in length. It boasts seven decks, five sumptuous guest suites with en-suite bathrooms, a cinema room and state-of-the-art technology systems throughout. With top speed exceeding 30 knots and an impressive range of 4500 nm at 12 knots – this yacht is both fast and dependable for long voyages to remote locations. The estimated price tag for OCEAN VICTORY would be around €100 million Euros ($120 million USD). Of course, the actual market value could vary depending on what amenities are included or excluded from the sale as well as current trends in luxury yacht prices. In any case – owning such a magnificent vessel will guarantee you never forget your ocean adventures!

From its current location in Mallorca she will be heading towards Cannes where she is scheduled to arrive by early August 2018 before continuing on to Italy later in the month.

Who Owns the Billion Dollar Boat?

Built by UK-based luxury yacht builder Lurssen Yachts and designed by US designer Stuart Hughes, the 100-foot vessel is made of solid gold and platinum and features a luxurious interior studded with diamonds, statues made from meteorite rock, a 24-carat gold Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium filled with rare fish species worth $4.5 million dollars as well as an awe inspiring master suite featuring walls covered in meteorite rock encrusted in platinum and diamond accents. In addition to its impressive exterior design features such as 10 VIP suites for guests complete with their own private jacuzzis and balconies overlooking the sea; it also boasts innovative technology which includes remote controlled anchor winches for easy maneuvering. With an estimated price tag of over 4 billion USD (including labor), this lavish superyacht is truly one of a kind – making it no surprise that it has attracted so much attention since first being unveiled back in 2014.

In conclusion, the Ocean Victory yacht is an impressive vessel that boasts state-of-the-art amenities and outstanding features. It is no surprise that this luxury yacht has been chosen as a favorite among celebrities and other VIPs for their vacation experiences. With its spacious cabins, inviting saloon and vast array of recreational activities, it’s easy to understand why the Ocean Victory is such a sought after vessel. Ultimately, who owns this incredible masterpiece remains a mystery; however, one can still enjoy the beauty of this remarkable sea cruiser without having to know its rightful owner.

Luxury motor yacht OCEAN VICTORY (Project Victory, hull 6218) is a magnificent seven-deck 140-metre vessel, built by Fincantieri Yachts of Italy and designed by Espen Oeino. The yacht's interior design is by Alberto Pinto. The massive OCEAN VICTORY yacht is built to SOLAS regulations and is one of the world’s most advanced superyachts in terms of safety and technology. She was launched in 2014.

With seven decks and 140 meters (or 459 ft) in length overall, super yacht OCEAN VICTORY has almost unrivalled space, features and amenities. In the words of Espen Oeino, her famed designer, she is "a complete superyacht. There’s no doubt about it, it’s a yacht that has it all”. Six swimming pools, some up to eight metres long, are worthy of special mention, as is the unusual and rare internal floodable dock feature, which enables the internal boarding and loading of the yacht's 14m (45.9 ft) tender. Other features include a helicopter deck and hanger to store the helicopter when not in use.

Some interior aspects of the OCEAN VICTORY yacht include a focus on design detailing, despite her ship-like size and large open entertainment and social areas, some of which are double height or have open voids. Espen Oeino says that although "it’s a very ambitious project as it’s a ship more than a yacht but its retained all of the proportions and the detailing, it’ll be a complete superyacht.”

OCEAN VICTORY Specifications

Giovanni Romano, head of Fincantieri Yachts, comments on OCEAN VICTORY superyacht: “This mega yacht is the start of another ‘adventure’ which proves we were right to enter this area of the market, an exclusive niche where we set out to base our success both on product quality and the efficiency of our construction process. Today, drawing on our experience with our first mega yacht and having further refined our expertise in managing complex processes, we are in a position to guarantee excellent performance levels thus meeting the needs of a market which, we trust, is on the road to recovery”.

"People who charter a yacht tend to want as many experiences as they can in a short space of time. It’s essentially a vacation in compressed format, so the yacht needs to collaborate with you in that. You need lots of different places to eat on board, so every day offers something different. The yacht also needs to make getting ashore easy, for meals on the beach and excursions, so it feels like you never do the same thing twice." - Espen Øino

Ocean Victory: How this new, small ship is a game changer for Alaska cruises

ocean-victory-ship

Editor's Note

Note: TPG contributor Jeri Clausing sailed on Ocean Victory on a free trip provided by American Queen Voyages. The opinions expressed below are entirely hers and weren't subject to review by the line.

When it comes to cruising in Alaska, there have long been just two distinct options: the big ocean liners that cruise-averse travelers love to hate and the small ships that cater to outdoor enthusiasts seeking adventure over amenities.

I've generally avoided both, being put off by the crowds and mass-market feel of traditional ocean liners and too spoiled by years of luxury travel to be tempted by the more basic adventure ships.

Enter Ocean Victory, which merges luxury and adventure for an experience that is as unique to Alaska's waterways as its pointy, submarine-looking X-bow nose. The new 186-passenger expedition ship is operated during the summer Alaska cruise season by American Queen Voyages, a company best known for its red paddle-wheelers that ply America's rivers.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Ocean Victory marks the company's first foray into Alaska and expedition cruising. The itineraries are designed to appeal to a younger demographic than AQV's more senior-oriented river, Great Lakes and coastal cruising trips.

Judging from the reactions of passengers and travel advisors on its inaugural sailing, the ship is going to be a huge hit. On its face, the blue and white polar-class vessel radiates pure adventure. It features retractable, over-the-water observation decks that offer in-your-face wildlife viewing and special lower deck doors and a fold-out platform for launching kayak and Zodiac expeditions. The ship is so hardy it will spend winters sailing Antarctica for Albatros Expeditions.

Inside, the contemporary boutique-hotel vibe says pure comfort. Balcony cabins and spacious suites come equipped with large televisions, luxury bedding and heated bathroom floors. The ship is laden with amenities, including a small spa, fitness center, infinity pool, two outdoor hot tubs, two dining areas and three bars.

I was hooked the minute I boarded the vessel for a three-day preview sailing to showcase the new ship to travel advisors and other industry VIPs as it made its way from Bellingham, Washington, to Vancouver, British Columbia. I ended up liking it so much that I cast aside other obligations to stay on board for its 10-day maiden sailing through Alaska's lesser-traveled passages, islands and remote towns.

My only regret: not being able to find an excuse to stay on even longer.

Immersive experiences ashore

who owns the ocean victory yacht

Ocean Victory offers what AQV founder John Waggoner calls "encounter" travel, or "getting deeply immersive in things through experiences," with its adventure offerings and itinerary that sails into lesser-traveled areas of southeast Alaska.

Setting out from Vancouver to Sitka, Alaska, the ship spent the first two days at sea, veering off from Canada's more widely traveled Inside Passage. Instead, it sailed through the narrower Fiordland Conservancy area and past the ghost town of Butedale, British Columbia, known for its proximity to a concentration of white-furred black bears known as spirit bears.

My shipmates and I made good use of the scopes and binoculars the ship provides in guest cabins and across the ship to search for wildlife. Though we weren't lucky enough to spot one of the rare bears, over the course of our sailing we saw whales, bears, sea lions, otters, moose and bald eagles — both from the ship and from the water.

Our first stop was Ketchikan, Alaska, the only port on Ocean Victory's itinerary that's also a regular stop for the big cruise ships. We docked a few miles from the heart of town, away from the larger vessels, but Ocean Victory provided plenty of shuttles, as well as options for a free, traditional city highlights tour. Passengers could also pay extra for more culture- and culinary-focused excursions.

Related: The 6 coolest things to do on an Alaska cruise

After that, the itinerary alternated between expedition days and stops at lesser-visited ports, such as Alaska's Wrangell Island, population 2,500.

There, I passed on the group excursions, opting instead to wander the streets and then join AQV's culinary ambassador Regina Charbonneau for an informal "pub crawl" and a fish-and-chips lunch at what appeared to be the town's only, and very popular, diner. She was on board to start developing regionally focused menus as well as some culinary-focused excursions, which she said will include local diners and dive bars.

As a fellow writer and I wandered the main street, which was delightfully devoid of souvenir shops, we heard an odd, and quite loud, water-like sound coming from the sky.

"Oh, that's the raven," said Zak's Cafe owner Catherine George-Byrd, who had emerged to see if she could help the two startled visitors on Wrangell's otherwise empty main street. "It's imitating dripping water. Some imitate cats, others crying babies."

I didn't expect to be learning about local wildlife from a friendly diner owner, but that's just the kind of random encounter I came to expect on Ocean Victory. I likely would not have experienced this type of local interaction while wandering the souvenir and jewelry stores that dot the streets of the larger ports frequented by the big cruise lines.

For instance, in Kake, Alaska, population 500, the town mayor greeted us on arrival. We saw the world's tallest totem pole and went to the community gym to meet residents committed to keeping their indigenous Tlingit culture alive. Their children performed traditional dances and a woodcarver taught us how totem poles are made. A bonus: A local World War II veteran was there, and he and a fellow veteran sailing on Ocean Victory sang "The Marines' Hymn" together.

who owns the ocean victory yacht

In Petersburg, Alaska, we hopped aboard the 13-passenger Point Retreat jet boat operated by a father-son team, Rob and Teagen Schwartz, who promised to get us closer to the LeConte Glacier than any of the other small boats in the town, which gets regular visits from small adventure ships but not the larger ocean liners.

On the way, they took us on a detour along the coast to see whales and bears – a route that also took us past Bootleg Creek, where Rob said his great-grandfather used to buy moonshine from a man who in 1929 was found "deader than a doornail, curled up with a bottle."

Ultimately, they kept true to their word, navigating for nearly two hours through dense fields of breathtaking blue and white icebergs while regaling us with stories of life in the Last Frontier.

Sea days with extra adventure

who owns the ocean victory yacht

Every other day, Ocean Victory anchored in remote passages and fjords, where we spent the day exploring from the ship's fleets of kayaks and Zodiacs. Sea days on big ships are full of trivia contests, poker games and line dance lessons; on this small ship, they offered extra adventure.

While Ocean Victory is the first adventure offering from AQV, the expedition team and onboard naturalists are seasoned experts, having collectively sailed hundreds of Alaska and polar cruises.

The naturalists taught us how sea otters carry their young, pulled glacier ice onto the Zodiacs to show off the pieces' unique formations and gave informed narratives about the flora, fauna and geology of our surroundings. They were also expert spotters, helping us find everything from starfish to moose, bears and mountain goats on the surrounding coasts and cliffs.

Related: Best time to cruise Alaska

The company has also teamed up with founder John Waggoner's alma mater, California Polytechnic State University, as well as whale and wildlife experts from the Sound Science Research Collective and the Sitka Sound Science Center, who will conduct whale and marine biology research from the ship.

Between the water outings on expedition days, two recent graduates of Cal Poly gave fun hands-on lessons about our surroundings. We peered through microscopes at sea algae, watched them make miniature glaciers that model ice floes and learned about everything from whale snot to regional plants and wildlife from the expedition team's naturalists. I was engaged and involved, not falling asleep in the back of a huge ship's theater.

Casual luxury on board

who owns the ocean victory yacht

Where Ocean Victory really sets itself apart from traditional adventure operators is with the onboard experience. Most adventure ships in Alaska are quite basic, with few onboard amenities other than a simple dining hall and lounge and cabins featuring fixed twin or queen beds and picture windows. Ocean Victory ups the ante, offering the type of public spaces and accommodations you would expect to find on luxury river and yacht cruises.

The cabins are spacious, even by ocean liner standards, and offer all the amenities of a luxury hotel. Most have private balconies; some feature picture windows or French balconies, and a few are suites with separate living and sleeping areas. My deluxe balcony cabin featured a queen-size bed, sitting area with a small couch and a desk that offered a comfortable working space. The Wi-Fi worked well except when we anchored in the remote Gut Bay, Alaska.

Related: The best Alaska cruise for every type of traveler

My favorite spot was Deck 8, which has a large glass-walled lounge with a bar and a variety of tables and comfortable chairs, as well as a large outdoor observation deck. It was great for reading or relaxing and taking in the sweeping views.

The deck's casual-dining area with indoor and outdoor seating will be the perfect spot for barbecues and other informal meals. Unfortunately, it was not operating on the first sailing (never mind that it was still too cold for outdoor dining). The weather was perfect for relaxing in the Deck 7 hot tubs under the stars, even if the weather didn't allow a dip in the infinity pool.

who owns the ocean victory yacht

Deck 5 is the main public area, with a central lounge, private library area and a lecture hall, all surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows. The lecture hall is laid out theater-style, but the seating is more lounge-style with comfortable chairs, bench seating and tables in each row.

Just behind the lectern are doors that lead to the fold-down, over-the-water observation decks. Whenever the officers or expedition leaders spotted a whale, bear or other interesting creature, announcements were made and activities halted, so passengers could grab binoculars or a scope and hit the decks to take in the views.

The main dining room has the formal feel you would expect to go along with its fine-dining options. But this is Alaska, so passengers are equally welcome in dresses and heels or jeans and sneakers. The menus change daily, with a good variety of gourmet meat, fish and vegetarian options. I was a fan of the homemade soups and the outstanding pasta options from the ship's Italian chef that changed daily.

I didn't use the spa, which looks to be more substantial than what's offered on other adventure ships in Alaska. The menu showed ample offerings from traditional massages to hot therapies, even manicures, pedicures and hair-cutting and -styling services.

Evenings were for casual socializing, listening to stories from the naturalists after dinner or simply sipping wine in the spacious lounge while the onboard pianist tickled the keys.

Oh, and did I mention the service? Whenever you turn around, there's a crew member at the ready. I barely needed a key as my cabin attendant always seemed to know when I was coming down the hall and would be there to open the door for me. As soon as I left for coffee or breakfast, he was there ready to clean up and take care of all the little extras, like filling my water bottle, without being asked.

Bottom line

who owns the ocean victory yacht

While a few smaller luxury ships sail Alaska, Ocean Victory stands apart with its hybrid mix of intimacy and adventure.

"We're right in the sweet spot," Waggoner said.

I couldn't agree more. It's a sweet spot that I predict will be a huge hit with cruisers and non-cruisers alike who are seeking a truly immersive Alaska vacation.

Ocean Victory Itineraries

Ocean victory review, review of ocean victory.

MS Ocean Victory cruise ship is an ice-strengthened (polar class 1A / PC6) expedition vessel delivered in February 2021. The boat is owned by the Danish company SunStone Maritime Group (via its USA-based subsidiary SunStone Ships Inc) and operated under charter by Victory Cruise Line USA (brand owned by AQSC/AQV-American Queen Voyages ) and also by Albatros Expeditions ( Copenhagen Denmark -based company specializing in Arctic and Antarctic cruisetours, subsidiary and brand owned by Albatross Travel Group Ltd).

Albatros Expeditions itineraries are in Arctic Europe ( Svalbard Norway , Faroe Islands, Scotland), Arctic Canada (with Greenland-Iceland), Antarctica (with Patagonia/Chilean Fjords and SGSSI-South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands ).

The vessel (IMO 9868869) is Bahamas- flagged  (MMSI number 311000868) and registered in  Nassau .

Ship technology

Ocean Victory is the second in a series of ten "Ulstein CX103" design (Infinity-Class) expedition vessels, with sisterships Greg Mortimer (2019-Aug), Ocean Explorer (2021-Feb), Sylvia Earle (2022-Oct), Ocean Odyssey (2022-Oct), Ocean Albatros (2022-Oct), Ocean Discoverer (2025-August). Four more units were intended but eventually canceled and replaced by the new BOUNDLESS Class boats.

The patented ULSTEIN X-BOW design is one of the unusual for expedition ships features, The vessel also utilizes the latest technologies in naval engineering. The ship is technically managed by Cruise Management International ( Miami -based passenger vessel/fleet management company). CMI Leisure Miami handles hotel operations.

For the interior designs of this entire series of SunStone-owned ships was contracted the Weston Florida-based company Tomas Tillberg Design.

In November 2018, AQSC signed an agreement for purchasing the brand "Victory Cruise Line", as well as its chartered (from Sunstone Ships) vessels. Victory Cruise Line has a separate fleet and management and operates as a subsidiary company of AQSC. AQSC's Victory Cruise Line cooperated with the US-based shipowner SunStone Ships Inc to construct a custom-designed vessel for expedition-type voyages in polar regions, providing industry's best adventure travel vacation experiences and modern amenities.

With the highest for passenger vessel ice-class 1A (Polar Class 6 / PC6), MS Ocean Victory has icebreaking capacity 1 m (3 ft) and complies with maritime industry's latest polar code requirements and specifications. The boat offers unprecedented levels of safety and environmental protection.

The major advantage of the patented "ULSTEIN X-BOW" design is the ship's ability to navigate with improved stability in comparison to traditional bow-design vessels. X-BOW vessels are less subject to vertical motions (induced by waves), continuing on course smoothly while maintaining high speeds. The ship's engines use less fuel, which results in reduced air emissions and fuel consumption.

The ship is equipped with the latest propulsion and return-to-port systems. It also has top-notch dynamic positioning technology - computer-controlled systems allowing automatic maintenance of the vessel's position through its own propulsion units (thrusters and propellers). This allows stable floating while maintaining the necessary stability for launching watercraft - and without using anchors.

Shipboard facilities

The newbuild expedition vessel features dedicated outdoor observation areas (including fore-located Observation Deck with two Hydraulic Platforms and two Viewing Platforms/Bridge Wings), a stern marina (watersports platform serving the company's sea kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving programs), a fleet of 20x Zodiacs (large-capacity motorized boats used for passenger transportation - tendering and landings). The aft-located Zodiac loading platform is a new design and allows easier and faster boarding. Sun Deck (top-deck forward) is furnished with premium garden furniture (sofas, armchairs, sun loungers) and used for both relaxation and wildlife viewing. On the top-deck bow is the Observation Lounge (served by its own Bar) and midship is the funnel (with four stacks/engine exhaust pipes).

Other facilities include Medical Centre (Infirmary), Change Room (Mudroom), Bar Lounge (lecture theater forward on Deck 5), Dining Room Restaurant, Buffet Restaurant, Ship Shop, Lobby area (Reception Desk), Library, Piano Bar, Art Room, Wellness Centre (Fitness, Spa, Sauna Room, Treatment Rooms for Massages), Lower Sun Deck (Deck 7 aft, with lifeboats and liferafts), Upper Sun Deck (Deck 8 midship, with sunbathing area and swimming pool (infinity), pool bar, two whirlpool hot tubs, alfresco dining area).

Four Zodiac Docks (2 on each side, hull access at sea-level) serve as boat launching platforms.

MS Ocean Victory cruise ship (Albatros Expeditions)

When chartered by Albatros Expeditions, Ocean Victory provides some exclusive amenities via the company's partnerships with brands like Gerard Bertrand (organic wines from southern France, wine-tasting menus) and Julius Meinl (organic coffees and teas). Albatros also introduces Polar Spa (providing exotic treatments and massages), all-inclusive Suite cabins (with dedicated butler service, complimentary minibar, free laundry and pressing, in-cabin dining / daily served Canapes, Espresso machine / Julius Meinl, unlimited specialty restaurant access).

Decks and Cabins

Ocean Victory staterooms (93 total) allow max capacity 186 passengers. Cabins include 68x Balcony, 9x French Balcony and 16x with Porthole Windows. The vessel is served by 100 crew/staff accommodated in 57 crew cabins. Most cabins (80% of all, excepting only Deck 3's porthole cabins) are with a private, step-out balcony accessible from the living area via sliding, floor-ceiling glass door. Each balcony is furnished with a small table and two deck chairs. 60% of all cabins can be booked with triple occupancy (accommodate a 3rd person on a pull-out couch/sofabed).

  • Hotel beds (King-size or two twin, size 200 x 160 cm, ample under-bed storage space for suitcases), sleeping couch (sofabed), bedside cabinets, mirrored vanity (writing desk / dressing table) with chair, built-in dressers with drawers, mini-bar / refrigerator, 42-inch smart HDTV (local and satellite reception), phone (onboard communication only), digital clock / alarm, seating area (small table with 1 or 2 armchairs), spacious wardrobe (closet with hangers, drawers, electronic safe), individual climate control, medical emergency button.
  • Each stateroom has a private, full-size bathroom with shower / WC, hairdryer, premium bath amenities.
  • Suites are in 3 categories - CS-Captain's, JS-Junior and BS-Balcony. These are the largest staterooms, with double-size balconies and offering extra amenities, such as in-room dining service (continental breakfast served on the balcony).

There are a total of 20 pairs of connecting rooms (balconied cabins) that can be booked as one "family stateroom" for up to 6 persons. There are no wheelchair-accessible cabins (suitable for passengers with disabilities).

The boat has 8 decks , of which 6 are passenger-accessible and 4 with cabins.

Itineraries

Starting operations for Victory Cruise Lines, Ocean Victory's itinerary program 2021 (May through September) includes a total of 20 cruises in Alaska (USA) and British Columbia (Canada). Itineraries lengths range between 7-day to 10-day. Unique travel experiences on all these voyages are the Zodiac boat landings and shoreside cruising and kayaking for up-close scenery and wildlife viewing (bears, whales, seabirds). Ship's resident scientific staff (including marine biologists and naturalists) lead all expeditions and also provide educational onboard lectures.

Ocean Victory's cruises to Alaska and BC Canada were open for booking in July 2019.

Ocean Victory Wiki

Ocean Victory is the first Infinity-Class (ULSTEIN-designed) vessel chartered by Albatros Expeditions - followed by Ocean Albatros (chartered for Antarctic season 2022-2023). The ship-chartering agreement includes a deal with the Miami -based CMI Leisure Management. The company's ship management services include staffing, hotel services, housekeeping, onboard food and beverages, purchasing supplies, logistics. CMI Leisure is among the world's leading companies providing small-ship management services.

On March 16, 2017, SunStone Ships Inc signed the shipbuilding agreement with the Hong Kong -based company "China Merchants Industry Holdings" (abbrev CMIH) for the construction of 4 units. SunStone is the world's largest (by tonnage) shipowner chartering exclusively expedition vessels to cruise travel companies. Since there is an option for an additional 6 sisterships, by this "ULSTEIN CX103" project could be built up to 10 units. The USD 260 million shipbuilding order for the 4 boats was signed in June 2017.

The vessel's keel-laying ceremony (hull/yard number CMIH 196-3) was held on September 19, 2019, at CMHI's Haimen Shipyard. The launch (float out from drydock) was on March 16, 2020. On the same day started the construction of the sistership Sylvia Earle .

Yellow Sea trials (in East China Sea) started on January 22, 2021, and were successfully completed on January 27. During the 5-day sea trials, the boat's machinery was tested by 150+ personnel, including crew, shipyard technicians, CMIH managers, Bureau Veritas representatives, SunStone Ships marine advisors.

The boat was officially delivered to SunStone Ships on October 12, 2021. The signing ceremony was attended by Niels-Erik Lund (SunStone's CEO). Following the boat left CMHI Haimen and via Xiamen sailed to Manila Philippines for crewing. Then it made a technical stop in Papeete (Tahiti Island, French Polynesia) for bunkering and arrived in homeport Ushuaia Argentina to start the inaugural Antarctic season for Albatros Expeditions on Nov 26th (2021).

Albatros Expeditions christened Ocean Victory on December 3, 2021, off the South Georgia Island . The godmother Elise Grondahl (company’s Head of Operations and Product) used a block of ice (crashed into the hull) instead of the traditional champagne bottle. The special event was also participated by Soren Rasmussen (company's owner and Chairman), Hans Lagerweij (company's President) and Laura Sinclair Willis (CEO of the Government of the British dependency "South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands").

The company CMIH is a subsidiary of China Merchants Group (among the country's largest groups of companies). Following the contract with SunStone Ships, CMIH signed an agreement with the Norwegian company Ulstein Design (part of Ulstein Group, headquartered in Ulsteinvik Norway ) to supply the ship design and equipment package (ULSTEIN COM / Navigation Bridge system, and the integrated automation systems ULSTEIN IAS and ULSTEIN POWER), and also to supervise the shipbuilding works. For the ship's hotel design was contracted the Florida (USA)-based company Tomas Tillberg Design International (specializing in passenger vessel design). The design features Ulstein's patented X-BOW (providing fuel efficiency and significantly improved stability in rough seas). The vessel complies with the 2009-issued SOLAS requirements for "Virtual Anchorage" and "Safe Return to Port" (SRtP) implemented via Dynamic Positioning System (computer-controlled, automatically maintains ship's position) and Zero Speed Stabilizers (roll reduction system).

CMIH also signed an agreement with the Finnish company "IS Makinen Inc" to pre-fabricate the vessels' cabins, wet units and interior public spaces. For this purpose, Makinen established a cabin assembly plant and an interior workshop facility at the shipbuilding yard in China. Project's shipbuilder is the subsidiary company "China Merchants Heavy Industry" (abbrev CMHI, shipyard near Shanghai ).

MS Ocean Victory cruise ship construction

The ship is powered by 4x Wartsila-20 diesel engines (two 6-cylinder plus two 8-cylinder) running on HFO (heavy fuel oil). The 6-cylinder engines are fitted with Wartsila-NOR (exhaust gas cleaning system, NOx gas reducing technology). The contract with Wartsila was signed in November 2017.

MS Ocean Victory's charter contract with Aurora Expeditions was signed on June 6, 2018. In October 2018 was announced that the boat will be also chartered by Victory Cruise Line (a subsidiary of AQSC-American Queen Voyages ). There were rumors about Poseidon Expeditions also considering a charter deal for the new boat.

In mid-November 2018, AQSC announced an agreement to acquire the brand "Victory Cruise Line", which included purchasing its two chartered (Sunstone Ships-owned) sisterships Victory I (2001-built, now Ocean Voyager) and Victory 2 (2004-built, now Ocean Navigator). To AQSC's fleet was also added the newbuild Ocean Victory - Sunstone-owned and operated by AQSC under charter. All the 3 vessels are in a separate fleet - under the "Victory Cruise Line" brand. The announcement was officially made by AQSC's CEO John Waggoner. The acquisition deal was closed in mid-January 2019. Transaction terms (and price) were not disclosed.

The vessel's propulsion system is diesel-electric (twin-screw) and designed by Brunvoll Volda AS (Volda Norway-based company specializing in marine propulsion, positioning and maneuvering systems). For the ULSTEIN CX103 project, Brunvoll contracted DMC (Damen Marine Components, Hardinxveld Giessendam Holland-based marine equipment manufacturer) to produce and supply the vessel's two rudders (model Van der Velden ATLANTIC) and two steering gear systems (model Van der Velden COMMANDER).

Man gets realistic picture of his boat painted on a fence intended to hide it

A California man who was ordered to keep his boat out of sight has had the last laugh by commissioning an artist to paint a realistic image of it on the fence that obscures it.

Local government officials told Etienne Constable, of Seaside, California, in July that he had to build a 6-foot fence to hide the boat from view of his neighbors.

In a light-hearted jibe at officialdom, Constable decided to follow the directive, which said nothing about how the fence should be decorated, and asked local artist Hanif Panni to create a mural that makes it look as if the fence isn't there.

"I’m not a rule-breaker, but I like to make a political statement as necessary, as well as a humorous statement and a creative statement," he told NBC affiliate KSBW of Monterey Bay .

Man paints boat on fence erected to conceal boat

He is yet to have had any contact from the city about the mural — but he said he considers it to be covered by the right to freedom of expression as enshrined in the First Amendment.

"The reaction is extremely more than we ever expected, and we’re both just tickled about it," Constable said, referring to the stir the image has made on social media, where it has been shared many times.

Panni, who paints images across the Central Coast area, told KSBW: "I’m a big proponent of public art in spaces. It engages people in ways that reaching out and having conversations doesn’t sometimes."

And Panni added that since the Seaside boat mural has gone viral, other boat owners have approached him to see whether he can do the same for them.
