Lil Yachty Revisits City Girls 'Act Up' Drama On New Song 'A Cold Sunday'

Lil Yachty has revisited the controversy over his contribution to City Girls ‘ hit “Act Up” on his new single “A Cold Sunday.”

The track, which is Yachty’s first release of 2024 and features a jazz-inspired instrumental, sees him rap: “She a City Girl, I’m the real reason that she ‘Act Up.'”

Yachty previously claimed to have written all of “Act Up” apart from JT ‘s final verse, and later revealed the triple platinum hit made him a lot of money.

“That was an eight-figure check, no cap, and it’s still coming!” the Atlanta native said on Instagram Live, before correcting himself: “Seven, I’m sorry. Seven.”

He also detailed how he came to write “Act Up” in a 2019 interview with The FADER , saying: “One day I was in the studio with my best friend Earl and he played the beat and said, ‘Write something for City Girls,’ and I was like, ‘Okay.’ And I just did it.”

He continued: “[People] said, ‘He might have said one thing in the studio and they credit him.’ I wrote the whole song, except JT’s last verse.

“I know them personally, and I know what women like to hear. What’s some, like, raunchy shit? I just started saying it, and before I went in the booth I said, ‘No homo, y’all’ because all my boys was in the room.

“I always wanted to write for somebody, and when I did, and it blew up, it felt so good.”

City Girls were later asked about Lil Yachty’s contribution to the 2018 hit , but instead of going into detail on the collaboration, Yung Miami and JT refused to answer the question.

“Next,” Miami answered while JT let off a small laugh.

The song went on to reach number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later prominently sampled on “Hot Girl Summer” by Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj before their much-publicized falling out .

Yachty also featured in the video for “Act Up” in which he plays a news anchor.

City Girls’ raunchy lyrics and persona are all their own, but Lil Yachty helped the Miami duo with their latest hit single, “Act Up.”

Yachty shared details behind his collaboration with the rappers, noting that he penned the song with the exception of J.T.’s second verse on the song. “When it came out, people was so shocked and they didn’t believe it,” he told influencer and DJ Kerwin Frost Thursday (April 18). “I wrote the whole song, except for J.T.’s last verse. But everything that everyone is singing, I wrote the whole thing.”

J.T. (Jatavia Johnson) is credited as a writer on the song, but Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee isn’t. This doesn’t take away from Yung Miami’s pen game as she’s noted as a writer on other songs from their album, Girl Code .

Yachty added this was his first time writing a song for another artist. He was inspired to do so by a friend and wanted to embody their raunchy style with the track. “I just thought like them. I know them personally and I know what women like to hear,” he explained. “I was like, ‘What’s some raunchy sh*t?’ So before I went in the booth, I said, ‘No homo y’all.’ Because all my boys was in the room. And I started saying just crazy sh*t. But I came out and I was like, ‘Y’all watch, this is about to blow up.’”

Yachty was right. In addition to the Cardi B -assisted “Twerk,” “Act Up” has been sitting pretty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Act Up” hit the Top 40 recently while “Twerk” reached No. 29 in February. City Girls recently earned their third week at No. 1 on the Emerging Artists chart.

Yachty says the experience has inspired him to write for other artists and engage in writing camps with producers. A few of the songs he’s done will be dropping soon.

“People always try to discredit me. So when I saw it, I realized how I get my credit a different way,” he said.  “I write sh*t all the time… I can think like other people. That was a real fun experience for me, and it was most fun when it leaked to the public. I spent a few days just reading people’s responses because I didn’t speak on it, I didn’t say anything.”

Yachty’s knows a thing or two about making hits. The artist has two Top 10 singles and earned a Best Rap/Sung Grammy Nomination for “Broccoli” with D.R.A.M. in 2016.

Lil Yachty Recalls Writing A Hit For City Girls On New Track "A Cold Sunday"

2023 Austin City Limits Music Festival - Weekend One

According to Lil Yachty, he made seven figures off of the song.

Lil Yachty recently unveiled his new track "A Cold Sunday" to kick off yet another year of successful releases. So far, listeners are loving the song, praising the Georgia-born performer for his lyrical prowess. The jazzy single also sees Lil Yachty revisit writing a hit for City Girls, the 2018 Girl Code cut "Act Up."

“She a City Girl, I’m the real reason that she ‘Act Up,'” he reminisces on the song. This is far from the first time Lil Yachty has boasted about writing the fan-favorite, however. According to him, he made a killing off of the raunchy track, which is why he's remained unfazed by criticism. “That was an eight-figure check, no cap, and it’s still coming!” he told fans on Instagram Live in 2020. “Seven, I’m sorry. Seven. Look, let me talk to whoever that civilian was on the last insert, whoever that nice civilian was. These n***as be so closed-minded, right? And these n***as ain’t never seen no real money, right?”

Back in 2019, he also detailed how the song came to life in an interview with The Fader . According to him, he had to get out of his comfort zone to come up with some of the lyrics, which ultimately proved to be successful. “One day I was in the studio with my best friend Earl and he played the beat and said, ‘Write something for City Girls,’ and I was like, ‘Okay.’ And I just did it,” he described.

“I know them personally, and I know what women like to hear. What’s some, like, raunchy sh*t? I just started saying it, and before I went in the booth I said, ‘No homo, y’all’ because all my boys was in the room... City Girls Drop Official ‘Act Up’ Music Video With Lil Yachty

lil yachty act up

(Photo: YouTube)

Miami’s dynamic female rap duo City Girls and Lil Yachty snatched up the internet on Thursday (May 30) with the official summer-smashing, spring-breaking “Act Up” music video.

Led by Lil Boat, whose been exalted for his songwriting credits on City Girls’ Billboard Hot 100-peaking single, the visual opens with the 21-year-old reporting urgent Spring Break news: the widespread #ActUpChallenge endemic sweeping through Miami. Yachty’s breaking news report concludes as he invites viewers to check out the footage that’s “driving Spring Breakers insane” before the scene fades into a catwalking Yung Miami (Carresha) spitting the opening bars of the smash hit.

Sans JT, who recently sent a message to her fans from behind bars, the video shows ladies everywhere ready to act up with their girls all summer from the corner store, to the passenger seat, to the beach and everywhere in between. Resha parties up and shuts Spring Break down with the bikini-laden, twerk-happy women as she spits her verse as well. In one of its most hilarious moments, Yachty throws on his songwriter’s hat again in a quick scene-cut and gives Resha a quick pointer on what to say and how to spit her second verse.

Given JT’s current situation, some fans were saddened to see that she wasn’t included in the video. But now that they have the song and visual pair for one of summer 2019’s indisputable radio and club bangers, they’re still screaming #FreeJT for the time being.

See their reactions to the “Act Up” music video and check out the new release for yourself below.

Lil Yachty Says He Wrote All of City Girls’ “Act Up” Except for J.T.’s Last Verse

Lil Yachty asserts that he's the one who penned City Girls'  standout song, "Act Up"—well, at least most of it.

During an interview with Kerwin Frost, the Quality Control signee said that, besides  J.T.'s final verse, he wrote all of the EarlThePearll-produced record, which currently sits at No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“When it came out, people was so shocked and they didn’t believe it,” Yachty says about the song. “I wrote the whole song except for J.T.'s last verse, but everything that everyone is singing and all, I wrote the whole thing."

Yachty is listed as one of three writers on "Act Up" off their Girl Code album along with producer EarlThePearll and Jatavia “J.T.” Johnson. Caresha "Yung Miami" Brownlee does not have a writing credit on the song, but she does bring it to life on every stage she touches.

“I just thought like them," Yachty later explains. "I know them personally and I know what women like to hear. I was like, ‘What’s some raunchy shit?’ So before I went in the booth, I said, ‘No homo y'all.’ Because all my boys was in the room. And I started saying just crazy shit. But I came out and I was like, ‘Y'all watch, this is about to blow up.’”

At another point of the interview, Yachty says that he's invested $1 million into his Sailing Team collective only to see his investment go unrewarded.

Watch Lil Yachty tell his side of the "Act Up" story and more below. Yachty speaks on his contributions to City Girls' hit single at the 29:30 mark of the video. He speaks on the Sailing Team at the 22:52 mark.

City Girls, Lil Yachty Report on ‘Act Up’ Challenge in New Video

By Claire Shaffer

Claire Shaffer

After “Careless” and “Twerk,” rap duo City Girls  are back with another delightfully rambunctious music video from their second album Girl Code . Lil Yachty makes a cameo in the new clip for “Act Up,” as a befuddled Miami news anchor reporting on a phenomenon sweeping the coastline: the “Act Up Challenge.”

“It’s an interesting day in Miami – the governor has actually cancelled spring break for all spring breakers, okay?” the rapper says. “They’re acting up out of their minds, okay? The City Girls have started an ‘Act Up Challenge’ that is driving the spring breakers literally insane.”

As far as the video goes, the Act Up Challenge seems to entail shutting down a beach and having a good time – two things this rap duo seem to do just fine.

City Girls returned to provide a twerk-filled visual for their Girl Code  anthem “Act Up” on Thursday (May 30). The EarlThePearll-produced ratchet banger has called the Hot 100 home for the past three months, where it currently sits at No. 34.

Fellow Quality Control artist Lil Yachty lent a helping hand in the role of a reporter explaining how the #ActUpChallenge, which is swarming social media, actually shut down spring break in Miami. He later even gives suggestions to Yung Miami as to how he would say certain lyrics, playing off of the circus made about him actually penning most of the record.

Lil Boat shared the bombshell revelation in April during an interview with Kerwin Frost. “When it came out, people was so shocked and they didn’t believe it,” Yachty said. “I wrote the whole song except for J.T.’s last verse, but everything that everyone is singing and all, I wrote the whole thing.”

City Girls Member JT Begins Serving Jail Sentence for Fraud Charges

JT was noticeably absent from the visual, as she continues to serve her jail sentence on felony fraud charges in Tallahassee. The 27-year-old rapper was denied an early release from prison, according to  The Blast earlier this month. Her case was reportedly referred to the Bureau of Prisons. Court docs viewed by Billboard say that JT, born Jatavia Johnson, is slated to be released during March of 2020.

Lil Yachty Revealed Just How Much Of City Girls’ ‘Act Up’ He Wrote

Uproxx authors

Lil Yachty has really been expanding his impact on the entertainment industry lately — first, the world saw him acting in the How High trailer and now the internet is going crazy over the fact that he wrote nearly all of one of the City Girls’ most famous songs, “Act Up” – a song that even inspired its own internet challenge where people began twerking in a church .

“I just did it and when it came out, everyone was just so shocked and they couldn’t believe it,” started Yachty during an interview with Kerwin Frost. “[They said], he may have said one thing in the studio and they credited him, you know? I wrote the whole song except for JT’s last verse, but everything that everyone is singing and all, I wrote that whole thing. I just thought like them, you know I know them personally and I know what women like to hear. I was literally sitting there and I was like ‘yo, what’s just some raunchy sh*t?’ I just started saying it then I went in the booth… and started saying all that crazy sh*t. I came out and said ‘watch, this is about to blow up.'”

It seemed like Yachty knew right away that this was going to be a hit. The image of him sitting in the studio coming up with lyrics for the track and then proceeding to go into the booth and do a run-through of the lyrics is hysterical, but definitely a fun-spirited one. He mentioned that songwriting was always something he wanted to do for other artists and that this gave him validation. While some questioned how much he actually wrote on the track before, it’s pretty clear now.

“I didn’t even expect it, it was crazy to me, but I knew I could do it though,” he continued. “I always wanted to do it too, I’ve always wanted to write a song for somebody. I did it and when it blew up, I felt so good. People always try to discredit me, man.”

Act Up by City Girls

lil yachty act up

Songfacts®:

  • To act up is to act in a way different from that which is normal or expected. During this profanity-laced song, the City Girls show they are more than happy to "act up" in order to take advantage of rich, dumb men. They do this by making themselves attractive to these dudes, even if they are already in a relationship.
  • The song's rise up the Hot 100 was aided by the #ActUpChallenge on Instagram, which consists of teens posting video clips of drinking, smoking, and twerking along with photos of exes and former friends. The internet challenge is not age-appropriate and has gotten a number of youngsters into trouble.
  • Lil Yachty is credited as a co-writer on the song (under his real name of Miles McCollum) along with The City Girls' Jatavia Johnson and producer EarlThePearll. Lil Yachty has worked frequently with EarlThePearll and is on Quality Control, the same record label as City Girls.
  • Speaking with Kerwin Frost, Yachty revealed that he personally penned the entire song (except for J.T.'s last verse) while in the studio with EarlThePearll. It was his first time writing a song for another artist, and he accomplished the task by getting into The City Girls' raunchy mindset.

Lil Yachty Says He Got a ‘7-Figure Check’ for Writing City Girls’ “Act Up”

Instead of applauding the rapper for his versatility, one fan decided to troll Lil Yachty for his hand in creating the hit record. This forced him to floss.

Jay-Z told us that for the right price a ghostwriter could make anything sound tighter. Now, Lil Yachty has become the living embodiment of this bar as he claims his writing skills secured him a massive bag.

It's become common knowledge that Lil Yachty wrote one of the City Girls ' breakout singles, "Act Up." Instead of applauding the rapper for his versatility, one fan decided to troll Yachty for his hand in making a hit record. This moved the rapper to floss on the "civilian" by explaining how fruitful the song has been.

"That was an eight-figure check and it's still coming—I'm sorry. 7," Lil Yachty said while getting his hair braided on Live. "Let me talk to whoever that civilian was on the last insert. These niggas be so closed-minded, right? And these niggas ain't never seen no real money, right?"

In April 2019, Yachty revealed that he wrote the song for his fellow QC labelmates. Yachty explained to Kerwin Frost that producer, EarlThePearl, played the beat for him and told him to create something for the City Girls.

"[People] said 'he might have said one thing in the studio and they credit him.' I wrote the whole song, except J.T.'s last verse," Yachty said to Frost. "I know them personally, and I know what women like to hear. What's some like, raunchy shit? I just started saying it, and before I went in the booth I said 'no homo, y'all' because all my boys was in the room."

City Girls Finally Drop Video For Summer Anthem "Act Up"

Featuring an appearance by lil yachty..

As we prepare to head into summer, City Girls have officially dropped a music video for “Act Up.” The song originally appeared on their debut album Girl Code .

In the “Act Up” clip, Quality Control label mate Lil Yachty makes an appearance; this comes as no surprise since he co-wrote the track. Yung Miami is, of course, spotted throughout the video rapping alongside a crew of dancers. During one moment she is seen wearing an all-black outfit, while during another short moment, she wears a set by New York-based brand Slashed By Tia . As a whole, the track is directed similarly to the previously released “ Twerk ” video which featured rapper Cardi B .

Lil Yachty Reveals He Secured ‘7-Figure Check’ for Writing City Girls’ ‘Act Up’

Mail

Back in the day, ghostwriters used to remain ghosts, but nothing is too taboo in the era of social media. Lil Yachty spilled the tea that he wrote City Girls’ “Act Up” and it was a shocker for many.

lil yachty act up

Yachty presumably wrote Yung Miami’s verse because JT has songwriting credit alongside Isaac Bynum.

Instead of praising the rapper for doing the same thing that Pardison Fontaine does for Cardi B, he was trolled about it on Instagram live.

lil yachty act up

“That was an eight-figure check and it’s still coming—I’m sorry. 7,” Lil Boar said. “Let me talk to whoever that civilian was on the last insert. These niggas be so closed-minded, right? And these niggas ain’t never seen no real money, right?”

Lil Yachty responds to people trying to clown him for writing Act Up for the City Girls & says he got a 7 figure check off that pic.twitter.com/5oWs2yNQjx — 2Cool2Blog (@2Cool2BIog) October 19, 2020

“Act Up” was a huge record and was even sampled in Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer.” Maybe Lil Yachty wanted recognition for his versatility, but it’s called GHOSTWRITING for a reason.

Summerfest will wrap up the 2024 edition with a stacked hip-hop show at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater.

Currently, the Summerfest date is the only show on Lil Uzi Vert's schedule aside from Coachella in California next month.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the box office (200 N. Harbor Drive) and summerfest.com . Prices have yet to be announced but will include Summerfest general admission July 6.

J. Cole’s Top Features and Verses of 2023: How He Crushed the Competition and Made History

J. Cole, legally known as Jermaine Lamarr Cole has firmly established himself as a prominent figure in the hip-hop scene of 2023. His exceptional talent and memorable verses showcase his mastery of the craft and influence on the culture. This article delves into J. Cole's notable collaborations in 2023, featuring renowned artists such as Drake, Lil Durk, Burna Boy, J-Hope, Gucci Mane, Bas, Nicki Minaj, Offset, and more.

J. Cole's Collaborations in 2023

J. Cole has been an active feature artist in 2023, demonstrating versatility and lyrical prowess across various tracks with artists from diverse genres and backgrounds. Below are his best features

1. Bas - Passport Bro

J. Cole and Bas, both signed to Dreamville, deliver a smooth and catchy celebration of their friendship and travels worldwide. J. Cole's verse is filled with witty references and clever wordplay, reflecting on his experiences in different countries.

While the song received widespread acceptance, fans have varied reactions. Some perceive the lyrics as commonplace, interpreting them as boasting about every aspect of the artist's life. A fan on reddit have to say:

If you read the lyrics it just seems like another generic "I'm rich and famous and I have sex with different women in different countries" song as opposed to what the passport bro movement actually is. It reminds me of how terms like "based" or "simp" get adopted by mainstream culture and watered down from their original context/meaning on the internet.AngeCruelle

2. Gucci Mane - There I Go

The collaboration with Gucci Mane is a hard-hitting and energetic banger, showcasing the skills of two respected rappers. J. Cole's flawless verse effortlessly flows through the beat, leaving listeners mesmerized by his impeccable delivery.

Similar to numerous other musical releases, this track has garnered a variety of responses, with some listeners expressing admiration while others hold reservations. Nevertheless, J. Cole consistently delivers on his craft. Explore diverse fan reactions in the snippets below.

3. J-Hope - On the Street

Collaborating with J-Hope in On the Street, J. Cole explores a vibrant fusion of styles, expressing their love for hip-hop. J. Cole's remarkable verse adapts to different languages and cultures, emphasizing shared values and vision.

Much like the ebb and flow of opinions on many songs, this particular track by J. Cole has evoked a mixed response. Opinions are split, yet J. Cole showcases his mastery once again. However a fan beautifully sum up the storyline below:

The song pays tribute to hip-hop culture where Hoseok’s dream of becoming an artist started. The story the music video tells is so beautiful, with Hoseok starting from the underground then rising to roof where he meets J Cole his idol, his muse, the artist that inspire him. The friendship between J-Hope and J.Cole is so warm and wholesome, you can tell how much appreciation they have for each other. Absolutely love this collab.!!!! @roley4624

4. Burna Boy - Thanks

In Thanks, a powerful anthem, J. Cole and Burna Boy express gratitude for fans, family, and faith. J. Cole's emotional verse reflects on his journey, motivating others to pursue their dreams.

In keeping with the tradition of varied responses to musical compositions, this particular song has stirred a range of reactions among listeners. Despite the divided opinions, J. Cole's artistry shines through.

5. Summer Walker - To Summer, From Cole (Audio Hug)

This heartfelt collaboration with Summer Walker features a soothing and intimate song. J. Cole's sincere verse conveys emotion and affection, leaving a lasting impact on listeners.

This heartfelt collaboration not only expresses J. Cole's gratitude and support for Summer Walker but also extends his love to fellow R&B artists such as SZA and Ari Lennox. The song, lauded for its chemistry, soulful beats, and personal lyrics, has garnered acclaim from both fans and critics alike.

There's even speculation among fans that J. Cole subtly teased his upcoming album, The Fall Off, in his verse. Beyond the music, this track beautifully exemplifies the profound bond among artists and the transformative power of music to inspire and uplift.

6. Lil Yachty- Secrete Recipes

The two rappers effortlessly blend their styles over The Alchemist's production. Yachty's higher-pitched voice meshes with the laid-back freestyle. This created an unexpectedly lyrical rap song.

Only breakin' bad in the lab, thought y'all was makin' methJ. Cole

This Cole's standout verse resonates with fans, marking it as one of his best of the year.

Lil Yachty's transformative sound and consistent releases in 2023 position him as an exciting force, and the duo's collaboration adds a captivating layer to their careers. However, opinions on the track vary, with some praising Yachty's evolution and Cole's impact, while others find it somewhat monotonous, particularly due to the looping instrumental.

Despite differing perspectives, the ongoing legendary run of Lil Yachty and J. Cole's stellar performance undeniably make "The Secret Recipe" a standout moment in their discographies.

7. Lil Durk - All My Life

J. Cole and Lil Durk deliver a stunning and impressive song, exploring struggles and triumphs. J. Cole's versatile flow showcases his skill and consistency.

This track showcases a young choir harmonizing in the chorus and delves into the criticism and hurdles confronted by both rappers throughout their careers. Nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the song is praised for its resonant chorus and affectionate melody—a departure from Lil Durk's typical aggressive drill style, embodying a more reflective and positive tone.

8. Drake - First Person Shooter

Teaming up with Drake in this legendary and epic song, J. Cole's extraordinary verse tells a gripping story of a heist gone wrong, showcasing exceptional storytelling skills.

J. Cole's dominance on this track stems from various factors, sparking discussions and acclaim. One standout reason lies in his metaphorical use of the first-person shooter genre, cleverly illustrating his and Drake's approach to featuring on tracks. Known for effortlessly overshadowing the main act, J. Cole brings a distinctive flair to his verses, establishing himself as a force in the rap scene.

Moreover, J. Cole's lyrical prowess extends to reflections on his sustained success, boldly asserting the trio of himself, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar as the big three in rap music. Drawing parallels to legends like Muhammad Ali, he expresses a desire to collaborate with YoungBoy Never Broke Again, adding layers of depth to his verse. This multifaceted approach, combined with metaphorical language and cultural references, contributes to the resounding impact of J. Cole's verses, capturing the essence of rap greatness and collaboration in the dynamic landscape of 2023.

The Best J. Cole Verse of 2023

The Secret Recipe stands out as J. Cole's best verse of 2023, hailed for its lyrical brilliance and impact on the rap scene. Fans and critics praise its phenomenal delivery, insightful wordplay, and storytelling abilities, addressing various topics, paying homage to mentors, challenging emerging artists, and revealing personal details.

J. Cole's 2023 standout verse in The Secret Recipe earns acclaim for several compelling reasons. His lyricism and wordplay, showcase his adept use of intricate metaphors and double entendres, resonating with fans who value depth in rap.

Additionally, Cole's impeccable delivery and rhythmic control contribute to the verse's impact, displaying a masterclass in cadence. The unexpected collaboration with Lil Yachty adds a surprising element, catching fans off guard and enhancing the verse's memorability.

Beyond technical skill, J. Cole delves into themes of authenticity, creativity, and the grind, providing substance that reflects on the music industry and his artistic journey. In essence, J. Cole's verse in The Secret Recipe emerges as a testament to his growth as an artist, captivating listeners with a blend of skill and depth.

Lil Yachty Claims Him Liking A Shady Tweet About Kendrick After “Euphoria” Was “An Accident”

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Accidents happen! Lil Yachty claims that he did not intend to link a tweet where a Drake fan account called out Kendrick Lamar for infidelity.

The Compton, Calif., rapper released his Drake-targeted diss record “ Euphoria ” on Tuesday (April 30) and called out the Toronto superstar for being a “deadbeat” father. Naturally, fans of the “Rich Baby Daddy” rapper weren’t pleased with the claim and recalled an admission he made on his 2022 album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers .

On the song “Worldwide Steppers,” he rapped, “The first time I f**ked a white b**ch, I was sixteen at the Palisades, fumblin’ my grades,” and “Next time I f**ked a white b**ch, was out in Copenhagen/ Good Kid, M.A.A.D City tour, I flourished on them stages.” He mentioned a conversation he had with his wife, Whitney Alford, about the situation as well: “Whitney asked did I have a problem/ I said, ‘I might be racist’/ Ancestors watchin’ me f**k was like retaliation.”

On “Mother I Sober,” Kendrick confirmed that he cheated on his wife, though he did not specifically say that it was with white women. “Intoxicated, there’s a lustful nature that I failed to mention/ Insecurities that I project, sleepin’ with other women/ Whitney’s hurt, the pure soul I know, I found her in the kitchen/ Askin’ God, ‘Where did I lose myself? And can it be forgiven?'”

A Drake fan account posted a Genius lyric card from Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” where he raps, “Y’all think all of my life is rap?/ That’s h** sh*t, I got a son to raise, but I can see you know nothin’ bout that.” In the caption, they asked, “So who was raising your child while you were out cheating on your wife with white women? @kendricklamar.”

These days, a large part of being a Hip-Hop fan is perusing artists’ social media activity. So, unsurprisingly, a music account discovered that Lil Yachty liked the tweet alluding to K. Dot’s infidelity. The act was perceived as him subtly going to bat for the Toronto superstar, with whom he has collaborated and developed a strong friendship over the last few years. Beyond that, Yachty himself was mentioned in “Euphoria” with the lines: “I’m allergic to the lame sh*t, only you like bein’ famous/ Yachty can’t give you no swag neither, I don’t give a f**k ’bout who you hang with.”

so who was raising your child while you were out cheating on your wife with white women? @kendricklamar pic.twitter.com/voR80vQ99p — أ (@drizzyys) April 30, 2024

???????? https://t.co/zXejRz8l3O — CONCRETE BOY BOAT^ (@lilyachty) May 1, 2024

Lil Boat cleared the air hours later, writing, “Sh*t was an accident lmao.” A fan responded to his tweet with a video saying, “There’s no way out of this one…you’re done” and wrote “Too late buddy” in the caption. The Atlanta rapper quoted the tweet and added multiple laughing emojis.

“Euphoria” was Kendrick Lamar’s response to Drake’s one-two punch of “ Push Ups ” and the now-deleted “ Taylor Made Freestyle ,” the latter of which featured modulated vocals from Tupac and Snoop Dogg. K. Dot kicked off this chapter of his feud with his former collaborator on Future and Metro Boomin’s “ Like That ” at the end of March.
