The 43.45m/142'7" 'Victoria A' (ex. Ohana) sail yacht built by the Italian shipyard Perini Navi is available for charter for up to 12 guests in 5 cabins. This yacht features interior styling by Italian designer Cristiano Gatto Design.

Guest Accommodation

Victoria A is great for families thanks to her child-friendly setup. Built in 2004, She offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests with a layout comprising a master suite, two double cabins and two twin cabins. There are 8 beds in total, including 1 king, 2 queen, 4 singles and 2 pullmans. She is also capable of carrying up to 8 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

VICTORIA A features spacious living areas, superb joinery, lavish accommodations, a massive flybridge and a large sunken aft cockpit for dining and lounging and state of the art electronic and mechanical systems. Her enormous fly bridge and wide open main deck give the feel of a much larger vessel. Her Salon features large double doors that open up to the aft cockpit and the outside lounging and dining areas.

VICTORIA A's fold-out transom enables quick and easy access to the water. This magnificent sailing yacht has a professional crew of 7 to attend to the ten guests onboard.

She received a major refit in 2012 with over 4 million invested. The new interior designed by Cristiano Gatto are modern and classy. Further upgrades were in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

With an aluminium hull and superstructure, she features naval architecture by Perini Navi and Ron Holland, and interior and exterior design by Perini Navi. This twin screw superyacht measures 43.45 metres and can accommodate up to 12 guests.

Sail yacht Ohana is the first of the all-aluminium, high performance 43 metre series by the Italian shipbuilder. Her enormous sail area and efficient weight saving build process ensures she produces excellent sailing performance.

Ohana means "happy family" in Hawaiian and she was designed especially for use by the owner's family. Even the handwritten style of her name on the transom was from the penmanship of the owner's daughter.

The luxury yacht sports a dark-coloured hull and characterizing low-profile with an interior that is anything but traditional. Her striking interior styling with clean lines, contrasting wood finishes and bold colour makes a strong design statement.

The super yacht displays large living spaces, superb joinery, state-of-the-art electronic and mechanical systems and opulent accommodations. She boasts a generous fly bridge with sun pads and a variety of dining and lounging areas in a sunken cockpit area aft.

Amongst her five cabins are an indulgent Master suite forward with full bath; two Queen suites with showers; and two Twin cabins with showers.

The spacious and comfortable main salon features a stylish and contemporary décor with large double glass doors that open to the aft cockpit area for extra lounging space.

Luxury yacht Ohana is powered by two Deutz BF8M 1015MC engines that allow her to reach a maximum speed of 13.5 knots. She can achieve a range of 4,000 nautical miles while cruising at a speed of 10 knots.

Featuring a dedicated crew, Ohana is an excellent charter yacht for luxury vacations. The yacht cruises comfortably at 12 knots while her crew of seven ensure the needs of every guest are met.

3 Men Rescued from Pacific Island After Writing ‘Help’ With Palm Leaves

American rescuers found the lost sailors on a tiny uninhabited island in Micronesia with a damaged boat and the word spelled out on the beach.

Three men who were stranded on a remote Pacific island for more than a week were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after spelling out “HELP” on a beach using palm leaves.

The lost men were found on Pikelot, an uninhabited island about 100 miles northwest of their home, alongside their damaged boat on Sunday by an American military aircraft, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam said in a statement .

The men, who were experienced mariners in their 40s, set sail on March 31 from Polowat Atoll, an island that is part of the Federated States of Micronesia, in a 20-foot open skiff powered by an outboard motor. After their unintended delay, the Coast Guard said, the men had been safely returned home Tuesday evening.

The search began on Saturday when a woman sent out a distress call to the Coast Guard, reporting that her three uncles had not returned home after almost a week away. The Coast Guard embarked on the search with a U.S. Navy aircraft crew.

Pikelot is a tiny dot in the Pacific Ocean covered in palm trees and bushes, measuring less than 2,000 feet in length. The Micronesian island was part of a search area that the Coast Guard said spanned more than 100,000 square miles.

This week’s rescue was not the first from Pikelot involving huge letters spelled in the sand. In 2020, three other men whose boat ran out of fuel wrote “SOS” in the sand , allowing them to be spotted by American rescuers.

In this week’s search, a breakthrough came when a Navy reconnaissance aircraft that was dispatched from Okinawa, Japan, spotted the men from the air.

“In a remarkable testament to their will to be found, the mariners spelled out ‘HELP’ on the beach using palm leaves, a crucial factor in their discovery,” Lt. Chelsea Garcia, who coordinated the search and rescue mission on Sunday, said in the statement.

The aircraft crew deployed survival packages to help the men before the Coast Guard dropped them a radio a day later from a military aircraft sent from Hawaii, establishing a line of communication.

“They expressed a desire for assistance in returning to Polowat,” the Coast Guard said, adding that the men had said they were in good health and had access to food and water, but that their skiff had been damaged and its engine was not functional.

On Tuesday, a Coast Guard ship, the USCGC Oliver Henry, arrived at the island and picked up the men to bring them home.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the faces of those we’ve helped,” said Lt. Ray Cerrato, the commanding officer of the ship.

A similar rescue also took place in Micronesian waters in 2016 when three men whose boat was overturned swam two miles to reach a tiny island, on which they wrote “HELP” in the sand . The Coast Guard rescued them.

Two other people who went missing later that year were saved from a Micronesian island after writing “SOS ” in the sand.

Rescuers search for 3 missing after boat capsizes in Indian-controlled Kashmir, killing at least 6

SRINAGAR, India — Rescuers scrambled Tuesday to find three missing people after a boat carrying at least 15 capsized in a river in Indian-controlled Kashmir , killing six of them, officials said.

Many of the passengers were children and six people were rescued, said Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat, a civil administrator.

The boat capsized in Jhelum river in Srinagar, the region’s main city. A rope that guided the boat across the river snapped with the force of the fast-flowing water, capsizing the vessel. Heavy rains fell over the region in the past few days, leading to higher water levels in the river.

Eyewitness Firdous Ahmed Lone said he heard people crying for help and he rushed to save them.

“I pulled out four of them from the river, but they were already dead,” Lone said.

Boating accidents are common in India, where many vessels are overcrowded and have inadequate safety equipment.

Last year, 22 people drowned when a double-decker boat carrying more than 30 passengers capsized near a beach in Kerala state in southern India.

In May 2018, 30 people died when their boat capsized on the swollen Godavari River in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

Still the BOAT —

A supernova caused the boat gamma ray burst, jwst data confirms, but astronomers are puzzled by the lack of signatures of expected heavy elements..

In October 2022, several space-based detectors picked up a powerful gamma-ray burst so energetic that astronomers nicknamed it the BOAT (Brightest Of All Time). Now they've confirmed that the GRB came from a supernova, according to a new paper published in the journal Nature Astronomy. However, they did not find evidence of heavy elements like platinum and gold one would expect from a supernova explosion, which bears on the longstanding question of the origin of such elements in the universe.

As we've reported previously , gamma-ray bursts are extremely high-energy explosions in distant galaxies lasting between mere milliseconds to several hours. There are two classes of gamma-ray bursts. Most (70 percent) are long bursts lasting more than two seconds, often with a bright afterglow. These are usually linked to galaxies with rapid star formation. Astronomers think that long bursts are tied to the deaths of massive stars collapsing to form a neutron star or black hole (or, alternatively, a newly formed magnetar ). The baby black hole would produce jets of highly energetic particles moving near the speed of light, powerful enough to pierce through the remains of the progenitor star, emitting X-rays and gamma rays.

Those gamma-ray bursts lasting less than two seconds (about 30 percent) are deemed short bursts, usually emitting from regions with very little star formation. Astronomers think these gamma-ray bursts are the result of mergers between two neutron stars, or a neutron star merging with a black hole, comprising a "kilonova." That hypothesis was confirmed in 2017 when the LIGO collaboration picked up the gravitational wave signal of two neutron stars merging, accompanied by the powerful gamma-ray bursts associated with a kilonova.

The October 2022 gamma-ray burst falls into the long category, lasting over 300 seconds. GRB 221009A triggered detectors aboard NASA's  Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope , the  Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory , and  Wind spacecraft , among others, just as gamma-ray astronomers had gathered for an annual meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. The powerful signal came from the constellation Sagitta, traveling some 1.9 billion years to Earth.

Several papers were published last year reporting on the analytical results of all the observational data. Those findings confirmed that GRB 221009A was indeed the BOAT, appearing especially bright because its narrow jet was pointing directly at Earth. But the various analyses also yielded several surprising results that puzzled astronomers. Most notably, a supernova should have occurred a few weeks after the initial burst, but astronomers didn't detect one, perhaps because it was very faint, and thick dust clouds in that part of the sky were dimming any incoming light.

That's why Peter Blanchard of Northwestern University and his fellow co-authors decided to wait six months before undertaking their own analysis, relying on data collected during the GRB's later phase by the Webb Space Telescope's Near Infrared Spectrograph. They augmented that spectral data with observations from ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array) in Chile so they could separate light from the supernova and the GRB afterglow. The most significant finding was the telltale signatures of key elements like calcium and oxygen that one would expect to find with a supernova.

Yet the supernova wasn't brighter than other supernovae associated with less energetic GRBs, which is puzzling. "You might expect that the same collapsing star producing a very energetic and bright GRB would also produce a very energetic and bright supernova," said Blanchard . "But it turns out that's not the case. We have this extremely luminous GRB, but a normal supernova.” The authors suggest that this might have something to do with the shape and structure of the relativistic jet, which was much narrower than other GRB jets, resulting in a more focused and brighter beam of light.

The data held another surprise for astronomers. The only confirmed source of heavy elements in the universe to date is the merging of binary neutron stars. But per Blanchard, there are far too few neutron star mergers to account for the abundance of heavy elements, so there must be another source. One hypothetical additional source is a rapidly spinning massive star that collapses and explodes into a supernova. Alas, there was no evidence of heavy elements in the JWST spectral data regarding the BOAT.

“When we confirmed that the GRB was generated by the collapse of a massive star, that gave us the opportunity to test a hypothesis for how some of the heaviest elements in the universe are formed,” said Blanchard . “We did not see signatures of these heavy elements, suggesting that extremely energetic GRBs like the BOAT do not produce these elements. That doesn’t mean that all GRBs do not produce them, but it’s a key piece of information as we continue to understand where these heavy elements come from. Future observations with JWST will determine if the BOAT’s ‘normal’ cousins produce these elements.”

Boat full of decomposing corpses spotted by fishermen off Brazil coast

Bogota, Colombia  — A small boat full of decomposing corpses was spotted by fishermen off Brazil's northeastern coast on Saturday, according to local news reports. Brazil's Attorney General's office said in a statement that it had dispatched a forensics team to the area to determine where the bodies and the boat came from.

"Some reports say there could be up to 20 corpses" in the boat, the Attorney General's office said in a statement. The office announced it was opening a criminal and a civil investigation into the incident.

The boat was floating off the coast of the state of Para in a remote location about 185 miles from the state capital Belem.

It wasn't the first time that vessels carrying dead bodies were spotted by fishermen in the western side of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2021, at least seven boats full of corpses washed up in Brazil and the Eastern Caribbean.

Investigations by The Associated Press and local authorities determined that some of these boats carried the corpses of African migrants who were trying to make it to the Canary Islands, but had missed their target and had drifted for weeks in the Atlantic Ocean.

Nine corpses found adrift in boat off Brazil were likely migrants from Mauritania and Mali, police say

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Brazilian police investigating the grim discovery of a boat full of corpses say the dead were likely African migrants from Mali and Mauritania.

Fishermen off Brazil’s northern coastal state of Pará found the boat adrift Saturday in the Atlantic ocean. Brazil’s Federal police said in a statement late Monday it had recovered nine dead in total.

“Documents and objects found near the bodies indicate that the victims were migrants from the African continent, from the region of Mauritania and Mali,” the statement read. Police added that other nationalities could be among the deceased.

The roughly 12-meter (39-foot) -long white and blue canoe-shaped boat found in Brazil shares the same characteristics of Mauritanian fishing pirogues frequently used by West African migrants and refugees fleeing to Spain’s Canary Islands, suggesting Brazil was probably not their destination.

The Atlantic route from West Africa to the European Union territory is one of the most dangerous in the world. Boats that miss their destination can be swept away by Atlantic trade winds and currents from east to west, drifting for months. Migrants aboard often die of dehydration and malnutrition. Others have also been known jump into the ocean out desperation.

An Associated Press investigation published last year revealed that in 2021, at least seven boats from northwest Africa had been found in the Caribbean and Brazil, all carrying dead bodies.

A 500% spike in migration from the northwest coast of Africa to Spain this year has alarmed European authorities. Despite a 210 million euro deal signed in February between the European Union and Mauritania, the majority of departures have taken place from the West African nation.

While more than 13,000 migrants have reached the Canaries so far in 2024, according to Spain's interior ministry, hundreds others have been reported missing. In Mauritania, families have even set up a “national commission” charged with looking for the disappeared migrants. They have been following news of the boat found in Brazil anxiously, according to families who contacted AP.

Brazilian federal police say they are still working to identify the bodies and the cause of death, a difficult task given the advanced state of decomposition they were found in.

Body found in search for teenager missing in Torres Strait waters

A body has been found in the search for a teenager missing in Torres Strait waters after a dinghy broke down overnight.

Queensland police said a 13-year-old boy swam about 500 metres to shore at Saibai Island, about four kilometres south of Papua New Guinea, and raised the alarm.

The boy told police his 16-year-old crewmate attempted to swim but failed to make it to shore in rainy weather.

Police said the identification of the body was underway. 

Earlier today, Queensland Police Torres Strait Acting Inspector Anthony Moynihan said the younger boy swam ashore near the airport and went home.

"He's in a bit of shock at the moment," he said.

"He's talking with police up there."

Acting Inspector Moynihan believes the boys were about 500m north of the island when they abandoned the 5m fibreglass "banana boat" – a popular design in the area – after the engine broke down.

Acting Inspector Moynihan, based on Thursday Island, was unsure whether the boat had been found or if there was alternative propulsion aboard.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Felim Hanniffy said conditions on the water in the region were far from ideal after a tropical low formed within a very active trough in the are over the last few days.

He said it looked as if the worst of the storms had now contracted to the west after several days of bad weather.

"We had quite a bit of squally thunderstorm activity moving across the area," Mr Hanniffy said.

He said winds were not too strong but the area was still hazardous.

"Across the northern parts of the Torres Strait we've got light to moderate north- to north-easterlies in play up here," Mr Hanniffy said.

"Certainly for the rest of the day that risk remains, given that proximity of that low, though it has moved away.

"There's still a risk of some potentially squally shower and thunderstorm activity related to that system."

Clearwater Beach tour boat captain was drunk on the job, fell off boat, police say

A tour boat captain stumbled into work on Clearwater Beach, voyaged out to sea and drunkenly fell overboard, police said.

John Beckwith, 53, was arrested Friday on a charge of boating under the influence. The captain for Clearwater Fun Boat Tours had 30 customers on board, some telling police he was so impaired he fell off the boat.

Employees told Clearwater police Beckwith “arrived to work stumbling and had food all over his face,” according to an arrest report.

Officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot and they smelled alcohol on his breath. Beckwith “performed poorly” on a field sobriety test and blew a 0.118 on a breathalyzer, which is over the 0.08 level at which Florida law says someone is impaired.

Beckwith was released Saturday afternoon without being required to post bail. The incident is Beckwith’s fourth charge for operating a vehicle while impaired, records show. He was convicted twice in Michigan and again for an “extreme DUI” in Arizona.

The Clearwater Beach tour provides customers a chance to spot dolphins playing in the waves “while indulging in a delicious ice cream sundae” on a “family-friendly boat,” according to the company’s website . Last year, it was awarded Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award, the website states.

Neither Beckwith nor a representative for the tour boat company could be reached by phone for comment.
