First Mangusta 165 REV hits the water in Italy

Mangusta, a brand of Overmarine Group , has welcomed a new flagship of the Mangusta Maxi Open REV line with the launch of the 50 metre Mangusta 165 REV .

The new model was launched yesterday (July 25) at the yard’s Viareggio facilities.

“I am proud to be celebrating the launch of this first unit of the Mangusta 165 REV together with her Owner, his family, and the whole team who took part in her construction. I am convinced that today, with this launch, we are writing a new important page in the history of our shipyard", said the Group's chief executive officer Maurizio Balducci.

Balducci continued by thanking all the parties who worked “tirelessly” to combat “delays caused by the challenging times we are currently going through".

The yacht has been built in composite, with design from the shipyard's Engineering Department, headed by engineer Nicola Onori, in collaboration with acclaimed studio Lobanov Design .

The Mangusta 165 REV builds on the success of the previous Mangusta 165, a bestselling model with 12 units delivered since 2007. However, the new model boasts a few key changes to the design and layout.

Most notably, the new model is equipped with a generous beach club tucked into the stern.  Concealed behind a door that opens like a convertible sports car, it has been conceived as a fully-equipped waterfront lounge overlooking the water.

Automotive-inspired elements continue on the exterior, where the yacht’s slender profile draws parallels to 1930s sporty cars. Her speedy silhouette conceals impressive volumes, including a 92 square metre full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck which is encased in floor-to-ceiling windows that offers panoramic views. The rest of the guest accommodation, which can be configured to include four or five cabins, sits on the lower deck.

Large windows can also be found in the saloon, alongside fold-down balconies which create a smooth connection between indoor and outdoor areas. Elsewhere, the yacht is crowned by a huge sundeck with plenty of relaxation space, and there is a pair of pools to be found on this model - one on the sundeck and a second on the foredeck.

The Mangusta 165 REV is powered by four Rolls Royce 2600 HP engines coupled with four Kongsberg-Kamewa waterjets to push her to a maximum speed of 34 knots.

The first unit will make its debut at the Monaco Yacht Show. The next Mangusta 165 REV yacht available for sale will be ready for delivery in summer 2023.

The new, revolutionary Mangusta 165 REV has been officially presented. The 50-meter flagship of the new Maxi Open REV range is a celebration of design and functionality, comfort and performance, and is ready to sail the seas and leave its own unmistakable wake.

A project developed by the shipyard’s Engineering Department in collaboration with the renowned designer Igor Lobanov, who had already signed the lines of the Mangusta 104 REV, and who also gave his unmistakable imprint to the new Open model.

A distinctive feature, as for all Mangusta, are the large volumes on board, the comfort of the “en plein air” areas and the continuous dialogue between interiors and exteriors. The owner on board can fully enjoy the sea thanks to the multiple areas of privacy or socialization and experience a holiday that can change landscape every day, passing from one location to another in a short time, such as waking up in Portofino and then reach the Costa Smeralda.

On the sundeck there is a large area dedicated to socializing with comfortable sofa areas and a bar station located amidships. The immense bow area, of 60 sqm / 645 sq / ft, features a sunbathing area and an infinity-effect pool for moments of absolute relaxation.

The interiors, designed by the Milanese architecture firm M2 atelier, were conceived with warm tones and contemporary solutions with the aim of enhancing the natural light, the dominant feature of this yacht. The full-height windows in the salon minimize the division between interiors and exteriors and create a sophisticated and welcoming environment. 

The lower deck is reserved for the guest area and can be offered with different customized solutions up to 5 cabins; 4 guests and a VIP or a media & lounge area or gym. A versatility of spaces that is combined with the versatility of performance, with a propulsion system with 4 MTU 16V 2000 M96L 2600 HP engines and 4 Kamewa waterjets, which allow you to reach an exhilarating top speed of 34 knots while maintaining low fuel consumption. Veem gyroscopic stabilizers offer navigation, even at low speeds, and in all sea conditions always with maximum comfort, and with a range of use that can be extended up to 650 miles.

The aft door to the beach club is created to open like the roof of a convertible sports car and includes a 36 square meter fully equipped lounge area on the sea. Her extensive sundeck is located forward and features an infinity pool. Able to comfortably accommodate 12 guests in six staterooms, this includes the 92 square meter owner’s suite on the main deck, which spans across two levels. Her owners will undoubtedly enjoy private access to their personal lounge area and office. Guest accommodation on the lower deck can be fully customized to her owner’s tastes and include up to five ensuite cabins. Crew accommodations can host up to a crew of nine, an ideal crew-to-guest ratio. Powered by four MTU diesel engines, her top speed is 34 knots, and her cruising speed is 30 knots.

For a 165-foot superyacht to scream to a top speed of almost 40 mph, you need some serious horsepower. In the case of N1 , an Italian-built Overmarine Mangusta 165 REV, we’re talking about a staggering 10,400 horses.

“She’s designed to go fast, very fast,” Captain Ömer Balkan, owner and listing broker with Bodrum, Turkey-based BTWO Marine tells Robb Report . “The Mangusta 165 REV is arguably the fastest yacht in the 160-foot category. To be onboard such a large vessel when she’s running at 35 knots is an exciting experience.”

As the name suggests, N1 was hull #1 in Overmarine’s latest Mangusta 165 REV series. Launched in July last year, the yacht was delivered to her Dubai-based owner straight after the Monaco boat show last September, where the REV made its debut.

After the show, the yacht returned to Bodrum on Turkey’s Aegean coast where it was parked until June, when the owner took it out for the first time.

“It has less than 130 hours on the MTU engines,” says Balkan. “With Overmarine’s next delivery slot in the 165 REV series in 2026, this is a perfect opportunity for someone to take delivery now without the wait,” he said. It’s a good sales pitch but makes sense for essentially the first, barely-used model from an iconic brand. Interested? You’ll need €36 million, or roughly $39 million, to get the keys. 

Designed by the Viareggio-based Overmarine Group in collaboration with acclaimed Spanish studio Lobanov Design, the composite-hulled 165 REV replaced the previous Mangusta 165.

It’s also clear in the dramatic swoosh of the hull-side windows and slatted air intakes towards the stern. And while there’s a flybridge up top, it’s intentionally kept discreet to keep the profile sleek and low.

Other stand-out design features include the REV’s new beach club at the stern. A press of a button sees the bottom-hinged stern door open outwards, like the rumble seat of a 1930s Ford Model A. It reveals a large, teak-decked swim platform and elegant set of teak swim steps.

Extra-wide side decks lead up to an expansive sun-lounging, eating-and-drinking area on the foredeck, with a Jacuzzi on the bow. This area has its own sportscar-inspired windshield, allowing guests to sit up front and really enjoy the ride.

More steps lead up to the deep-sided top deck, for lounging and entertaining. It has sofas, sunpads, an outdoor bar and a kitchen.

Igor Lobanov also designed a one-level salon and back deck that flow together seamlessly from the inside out. Floor-to-ceiling windows and drop-down balconies on both sides flood the space with light and fresh air.

Yet the pièce de résistance here is the vast, main-level master suite, set on two levels and measuring a cavernous 990 square feet. The upper level features a full-beam lounging area that includes the owner’s office, complete with a stylized, curving desk—arguably the coolest ever seen on a superyacht. Steps lead down to the bedroom area with its circular bed beside floor-to-ceiling windows for panoramic views.

“It’s like being on the set of a Star Trek movie,” says Balkan. “The owner worked with the designers to create a very futuristic, very open feel to the area.”

And to reduce noise levels, the cabins are separated from the engine room by a full-width tender garage large enough to hold a 20-foot water-jet RIB plus two Jet Skis.

“She looks fast and goes fast,” says Balkan. “ N1 is really a 160-foot thrill ride.”

The Mangusta 165REV was awarded the 8th of February the prestigious Neptune statue in the “Outstanding Exterior Design, Motor Yachts 40m to 59.9m” category at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards, against the magnificent backdrop of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

This important acknowledgement is bestowed by a judging panel comprising highly experienced owners to recently built yachts that have stood out in terms of design, engineering and technological innovation as well as style.

The Mangusta 165REV, which made her official debut and was enthusiastically welcomed at the Monaco Yacht Show 2022, is the very epitome of classic, timeless beauty perfectly harmonised with a radically new concept of lifestyle, meant as an unforgettable onboard life experience.

Besides boasting a new iconic design, on which the shipyard’s Engineering Department worked side by side with design firm Lobanov Design, this yacht also offers a number of innovative solutions, first and foremost the huge 92 sq. m (990 sq/ft) master stateroom developing on two levels, located on the main deck – a loft with large, floor-to-ceiling windows flawlessly integrated in the hull. More ceiling-high glazing can be found in the main deck salon, with doors that also open on the sides onto two large fold-down balconies, creating a sea-through environment seamlessly connected with the outdoor areas.

A key element on the 165 REV, just like on all Mangusta yachts, are the impressive onboard volumes, the comfort of en plein air areas, and the smooth, uninterrupted flow between the interiors and exteriors. The generous outer decks offer spacious, comfortable areas allowing to choose between moments of absolute privacy or pleasant convivial life and enjoy just the perfect holiday, set in a different landscape every day, swiftly moving from one destination to the next.

Among the many innovative solutions found on this yachts, a special mention goes to the beach club, conceived as a fully-equipped lounge area by the sea and ensuring the closest possible contact with the sea; the large forward area has been designed with an eye to offering guests unparalleled relaxation, thanks to comfy loungers and an infinity pool. The sun deck features a bar and comfortable sofas, ideal to sip a cocktail at sunset. Four guest cabins and a full-beam VIP cabin can be found on the lower deck.

The Jury was impressed in particular by the sleek lines of the new Mangusta 165REV emphasised with clever use of glass and paint, yet be instantly recognisable as a Mangusta sport yacht. The primary style line, inspired by racing cars of the 1920s, appears as a single glass hull element. Keeping to the same 50-metre length as its predecessor, the new series had to have more usable exterior deck space to guests’ benefit.

This award comes as the culmination of a path that Overmarine Group has been pursuing for a few years now, focused on constant technological innovation in both engineering and design, and as a tribute to the talent, vision and foresight of the Group’s employees.

The second Mangusta165REV is currently under construction, with delivery scheduled in summer 2023. Hull no. 3 is now available for sale.
