The 107-meter Lana has been delivered

The 107-meter Lana has been delivered

The 107-meter giga-yacht Lana has now been handed over to her owner by the builders, Benetti.

She is one of the largest yachts ever built by the Italian shipyard and will now join the Imperial charter fleet.

The final touches to the luxurious and impressive creation took place over the winter and included new features specified by the client who wanted two state-of-the-art Kongsberg wing stations.

The yard also points out that her complex equipment had to undergo an ‘extraordinary and rigorous’ amount of commissioning and testing before final delivery.

Designed in-house by Benetti's team

M/Y Lana was designed in-house by Benetti's team with the naval platform being produced by PierLuigi Ausonio Naval Architecture (PLANA).

She is powered by two diesel-electric engines with a combined power output of 2,800 kW each to help Lana achieve a top speed of 18.5 knots.

With a cruising speed of 12 knots, the giga-yacht is capable of covering more than 5,500 nautical miles without needing to refuel. She has a crew of 34 to meet the needs of guests.

The yacht's owner said: "I am absolutely satisfied with the work done by Benetti and Imperial together.

"Lana represents a statement of building excellence, every technical feature, every aesthetic element, every single detail was executed to perfection. I am glad we all made this way to prove a new level of Italian shipbuilding industry.”

12 guests can be accommodated

Up to 12 guests can be accommodated in eight suites on board, seven of these are VIP cabins and are found along the main deck.

The master suite will take up the prime position on the bridge deck.

Here, the owner will enjoy a fixed balcony on either side of the full beam cabin with a private view of the surroundings.

There is also a large swimming pool on the sundeck with a wellness center featuring a gym and massage room.

The second 100m+ superyacht ever delivered in Italy

Imperial’s director, Julia Stewart, said: "Being linked to the second 100m+ superyacht ever delivered in Italy by the private shipyard Benetti is a pride that we share with the builder.

"It was a pleasure to collaborate once again with their professional teams and their dynamic behavior in a proactive atmosphere.”

“Lana is bold, unique, sleek and aggressive, boasting high ceilings up to 2.7 meters in height and mixing perfect experience at sea and unforgettable charter moments."

Captain Q&A: What it's like to charter the 107m Benetti superyacht Lana

Lana is one of the most expensive superyachts for charter on the market. But is she worth her hefty price tag? Her captain reveals what the charter experience is really like on board…

Measuring 107 metres LOA and with a whopping 3,900 GT of interior volume, Lana certainly stands out in the charter crowd. A weekly charter rate of 1.8 million Euros is another impressive number attached to the yacht, which is managed by Imperial , as it makes her one of the world’s most expensive vessels to holiday on . Her delivery in late 2020 was hotly anticipated and since then, “she has already proved herself to be very popular,” her captain has revealed in an interview with Imperial.

Lana is one of the largest yachts ever built by Benetti and was launched alongside the 108m IJE and 107.6m Luminosity in 2019 and 2020.  So what can charterers anticipate when they step on board this sizable superyacht built by Benetti ? “Guests can expect the highest echelon of luxury cruising,” states her captain, emphasising that “ Lana has no shortage of impeccable features.”

Guests will notice Lana’s unique proportions as soon as they step on board. “ Lana boasts high ceilings (up to 2.7-meters) in all guest areas, which are hardly ever seen on a superyacht. This creates a sense of grandeur and the illusion of being on land,” her captain says.

Lana's 120 square metre beach club is one standout feature . Situated right on the water’s edge and complete with folding terraces, this space “affords guests a true feeling of indoor and outdoor living,” and is also home to a hammam spa which is “the perfect environment to immerse in a relaxing ritual," Lana's captain says.

Another highlight is the 100 square metre sundeck with a sizeable swimming pool, which the captain describes as an area “perfect for hosting summer parties, yet there are also hidden spots for guests seeking a quiet space.”

With accommodations for up to 12 guests and a 33-strong crew including an expert spa therapist, Lana is well equipped for the ultimate party experience at sea . There’s even a dedicated party space with two club-standard speakers and a set-up for double DJ decks. “She also has a fully kitted-out selection of water-toys and a warm crew who will go the extra mile to add personal touches,” adds the captain.

Despite her size, she’s also extremely flexible when it comes to picking charter destinations. “She can proudly compete in popular destinations such as the Mediterranean and Caribbean. As well as remote areas such as Central and South America all the way to the Indian and Pacific Ocean,” the captain adds.

For her first season, Lana visited some charter hotspots, including Malta, Sardinia, Corsica, the South of France and the central and south Adriatic.” These may be familiar spots with the superyacht crowd, but Lana’s itinerary was certainly no milk-run. Her captain ensured that the region’s hidden gems were on the agenda for Lana's guests to discover alongside the classic cruising locations.

This included dropping anchor in the captain’s favourite destinations of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, which “combines beautiful unspoilt waters, remote beaches, culture and some glamour”, and Cap Corse in northern Corsica, which is “unspoilt” and “charged with history, nature and heritage.”

Guests were also treated to a tour of Sardinia, visiting the “turquoise sea and peach coloured sand” of Chia, enjoying watersports in Su Giudeu, dropping by in Porto Cervo’s boutiques and restaurants and stretching sea legs with an overnight stay at the famous Hotel Cala di Volpe.

“The vessel is innovative and complex, meaning she is able to serve her guests the maximum amount of comfort and can travel anywhere the guest may desire,” impresses her captain, adding; “ Lana is fast becoming the charter superyacht of choice and the most exciting superyacht on the scene.”

Lana is managed for charter by Imperial with a weekly charter rate starting from €1,800,000.

How Much Do Superyachts Cost?

who owns lana superyacht

When it comes to superyachts, the sky is the limit when it comes to cost.

These luxury vessels come with hefty price tags that can range from anywhere between $30 million to over $400 million.

So, if youre in the market for a superyacht, youre looking at an investment that could easily break the bank.

The cost of a superyacht is driven by a variety of factors, including size, amenities, and customization.

Generally, the larger the yacht, the more expensive it will be.

Superyachts typically range in size from 100 feet to over 200 feet, and they can be as wide as 40 feet.

The bigger the yacht, the more luxurious features and amenities it will have.

Amenities also play a significant role in the cost of a superyacht.

While some owners prefer to keep their yachts out of the public eye, others have made headlines with their extensive amenities.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, the sky is the limit when it comes to customizing a superyacht.

The more amenities a superyacht has, the more expensive it will be.

Finally, customization is another major factor that will drive up the cost of a superyacht.

Many luxury vessels have custom-designed interiors that are tailored to the owners tastes.

From custom furniture and artwork to lighting and audio systems, the cost of a superyacht can quickly escalate depending on the level of customization.

In short, the cost of a superyacht can vary widely depending on its size, amenities, and customization.

While some may be able to get away with spending a few million dollars, others may end up spending hundreds of millions of dollars on their dream yacht.

No matter what your budget is, its important to do your research and find out exactly what youre getting for your money before signing on the dotted line.

Keeping Superyachts Out of the Public Eye

When it comes to owning a superyacht, some owners prefer to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

Understandably, these individuals are concerned with privacy and discretion, and therefore tend to take measures to ensure their yachts are not visible to outsiders.

For instance, some superyacht owners opt to keep their vessels in private marinas, away from the public areas of larger ports.

Additionally, some yacht owners may choose to hire security guards to patrol and protect their vessels while they are moored or sailing.

In addition to physical security, some superyacht owners also use technology to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

For example, a yacht owner may choose to install a satellite-based communications system that allows them to keep their vessel completely off-radar.

This system works by bouncing signals off satellites rather than transmitting them, making it virtually impossible for anyone to track the yachts movements.

Finally, some superyacht owners also choose to limit the number of people who have access to their vessels.

For instance, the owner may only allow family members and close friends to board the yacht.

Additionally, the owner may choose to employ a limited number of staff to help maintain the vessel and keep it running smoothly.

These individuals may be required to sign non-disclosure agreements to ensure they do not disclose any information about the yacht or its owner.

Overall, while some superyacht owners may choose to keep their vessels out of the public eye, there are still plenty of other ways to show off the opulence associated with owning a superyacht.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, there are many luxurious amenities that can make a superyacht the envy of any jet setter.

Final Thoughts

Superyachts are a symbol of luxury and status, and the list of yacht owners reads like a who’s who of billionaires.

From the Emir of Qatar’s world-record breaking $400 million yacht to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s vessel with a helicopter pad and on-board spa, the amenities of these luxury vessels are truly stunning.

With prices ranging from $30 million to over $400 million, owning a superyacht is an expensive endeavor.

Whether you’re looking to purchase one or just curious to learn more about the owners and their amenities, this guide will provide you with all the information you need to stay up to date with the superyacht scene.

The massive, 370-foot concept yacht was revealed in 2019 at the Monaco Yacht Show and news soon followed that billionaire Bill Gates, once the richest man in the world and the founder of Microsoft, had commissioned the construction of his own hydrogen-powered Aqua. But that never actually happened and, in fact, as near as anyone can tell for real, Bill Gates doesn’t own a yacht at all.

So where did the story come from? What’s the deal with the Aqua? And hasn’t Bill Gates been pictured on a yacht before? Let’s get some answers.

How Much Did the Aqua Yacht Cost at the Monaco Yacht Show?

who owns lana superyacht

According to the stories online, Bill Gates paid $600 million for the hydrogen powered yacht. But that’s not true at all. According to the yacht makers, the Dutch company Sinot, the price tag is $645 million but no one bought it after it was revealed at the Monaco Yacht Show, and that includes Bill Gates. It’s expensive but definitely not the most expensive in the world.

How Fast is the Aqua Yacht?

who owns lana superyacht

Aqua is a unique yacht in the yachting world which is why it garnered so much attention in the first place. It’s the first mega yacht that runs on a fully operational liquid hydrogen and fuel cell system that features two hydrogen engines that can produce 1,341 horsepower. The top speed is 17 knots and  the Aqua has a cruising speed of 12 knots. The total range is 3,750 nautical miles. The liquid hydrogen is stored in two 28-ton vacuum sealed tanks where it can be held at -253 degrees C. The only exhaust is water.

What Does the Interior of  the Aqua Yacht Look Like?

who owns lana superyacht

The Aqua has 7 suites meant to house up to 14 guests at any given time. Two of those suites are larger VIP cabins. The ceilings throughout are 9 feet and stretch as high as 12.5 feet elsewhere thanks to the luxury Sinot yacht architecture. The vessel has room for a crew of 31 as well. The beach deck lounge aboard the boat alone looks like a luxury hotel space.

The Aqua features a bow observation room which is surrounded by windows to give a panoramic view of the ocean which has been described as the “ultimate superyacht owners lounge.” In addition, there’s a movie theater on the upper deck. It also includes a wellness center with a hydro massage room. You can also do some yoga in a workout space. There’s a fully equipped gym, a beauty salon, and even a hairdresser.

Up on the main deck there’s a luxury swimming pool that even includes a waterfall. One of the yacht’s defining features is the spiral staircase that covers all five decks and is covered by a skylight. On the way up it also offers a view of the interior of the hydrogen fuel tanks so you can see just what 56 tons of ultra cold liquid hydrogen looks like as you move between decks.

The tender garage has an array of toys such as jet skis while the main deck features a beach club with a dining area designed for all 14 guests and a lounge that converts into the cinema space.

What Yacht Has Bill Gates Actually Been On?

who owns lana superyacht

Bill Gates does seem to like yachts, just not enough to spend his money owning one, and that’s fair. Yachts cost millions to maintain every year. No one got rich spending millions to maintain a boat.

That said, Bill Gates has not only vacationed on yachts – he spent his 66th birthday on one – he also got married on a yacht.

In 2021, Gates made the news when he celebrated his 66th on board a luxury yacht called the Lana alongside Jeff Bezos. He spent $2 million to charter the yacht for a week and flew 50 guests out to celebrate with him.

The Lana is a 351 foot yacht with room for 12 guests and a cruising speed of 12 knots with a max speed of 18 knots. The master suite is 1,184 square feet. The room features his and hers walk-in dressing rooms and a private terrace.

Elsewhere on board you’ll find a piano in the lounge area as well as a full gym for working out. There’s both a sauna and a well-appointed spa as well. On deck you can head to the beach club or take a dip in the pool.

There are three tenders in the garage alongside a bunch of toys including various jetskis, a seabob, wakeboards, WindSurfers, fishing equipment, scuba diving equipment and more.

Back in 2014, Gates rented an even more expensive yacht, the $5 million per week Serene, to go on a vacation with his family. The Serene, once owned by  Russian vodka magnate Yuri Shelfer before being purchased by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, clocked in at a massive 450 feet making it one of the world’s biggest and even had its own on board submarine

The Serene features 7 decks, a saltwater pool, a climbing wall, a surprisingly large library, health spa, outdoor cinema and a nightclub. This is all spread across 48,000 square feet.

It’s also been confirmed that Gates met his wife Melinda on a yacht owned by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, all the way back in 1994.

Why Do People Think Bill Gates Owns the Aqua?

who owns lana superyacht

It’s easy to see why people may have thought Gates owned the Aqua when you consider a handful of factors. First, as mentioned, we have lots of evidence that Bill Gates really does enjoy luxury yachts. The extremely high price tag was something that only a few people in the world are going to be able to afford and Gates, who doesn’t own a yacht, seems like a likely candidate for those reasons.

In addition, Gates has spent several years now as a climate activist and has supported a number of green technologies. A yacht that runs on hydrogen seems like something he would support as well. So, with no real evidence, the circumstantial evidence was enough to easily convince people. Once it’s presented as fact on the internet, and it was in many articles and videos, few people had reason to question it.

The Bottom Line

The mega yacht known as the Aqua has a price tag of $645 million and it runs on clan burning hydrogen fuel. The only byproduct of its operation is water, making it a very environmentally friendly yacht. It made waves, so to speak, when it debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2019. Rumors soon began to spread that billionaire and known climate activist Bill Gates had ordered one for $600 million. However, despite many videos and articles that refer to him as the owner, the truth is no one bought the Aqua at the yacht show and, as of 2023, Bill Gates does not own a yacht at all. He is know to charter extremely luxurious yachts for vacations and parties, such as the Lana and the Serene, but he does not own any just now.

Superyacht Lana: Luxury Redefined

Picture this: You’re on the deck of a magnificent vessel, the sun-kissed waves gently lapping against the hull as you sip champagne and relish the breathtaking views. Welcome aboard the Superyacht Lana, the epitome of luxury, and an absolute masterpiece in the realm of mega yachts. Get ready to embark on a journey that will redefine your idea of opulence and grandeur on the high seas.

Superyacht Lana

Balancing Luxury, Amenities, and Practicality onboard Superyacht Lana

Introduction.

Superyachts have long been synonymous with opulence, grandeur, and the epitome of luxury travel. Among these magnificent vessels, the Lana, a masterpiece crafted by Benetti Yachts in Italy, stands as a testament to the pinnacle of maritime extravagance. In this comprehensive analysis, we delve into the key factors that impact clients when renting the Lana, exploring the tradeoffs, challenges, and the importance of informed decision-making in embarking on a journey aboard this mega yacht.

The Grandeur of Lana

When it comes to super yachts, Lana effortlessly captures the essence of luxury. Stretching 107.6 meters (353 feet), it is a true mega yacht, boasting impressive size and presence. Lana’s exterior design is sleek and modern, exuding sophistication. Its striking silhouette is a sight to behold, promising an unparalleled experience for those fortunate enough to step aboard.

Superyacht Lana Amenities and Features

Lana offers a wealth of amenities that elevate the notion of indulgence at sea. Onboard, guests can luxuriate in numerous expansive lounges, an infinity pool, a beach club, a fully-equipped gym, and even a spa, ensuring that every comfort and entertainment option is easily accessible. For enthusiasts of water sports and exploration, “Mar” boasts an extensive array of water toys and tenders, promising an exhilarating aquatic experience.

The Tradeoffs of Space and Privacy

One of the challenges faced when renting Lana is balancing the desire for ample living space with the need for privacy. While the yacht’s expansive size ensures generous living areas, it also means a larger crew, which may impact the level of privacy guests can enjoy. It’s important for clients to consider their preferences and expectations in this regard.

Lana

Accommodations and Interior

Lana’s interior design is a masterpiece in its own right. The yacht accommodates up to 12 guests in sumptuous staterooms, including a master suite with panoramic views. The interior features a blend of opulent materials, creating an ambiance of refined elegance. However, this level of luxury comes at a cost, and potential renters must be prepared for the substantial price tag that accompanies it.

Superyacht Lana Crew and Service

The crew on Lana is a vital component of the luxury experience. With a large crew onboard, guests can expect exceptional service, personalized attention, and a seamless experience. However, the challenge here is to strike a balance between enjoying the attentive service and ensuring the privacy of guests. Lana’s crew-to-guest ratio is high, ensuring that every need is met, but it’s essential to communicate preferences and boundaries clearly.

Destinations and Itinerary for Superyacht Lana

One of the most critical factors impacting the Lana experience is the choice of destinations and itinerary. Lana is equipped for both Mediterranean and worldwide cruising, offering a wide range of possibilities. Clients must carefully consider their desired destinations and activities to make the most of their charter, as this can significantly influence the overall experience.

Environmental Considerations

In today’s world, environmental consciousness plays a significant role in decision-making. Super yachts, including Lana, consume substantial amounts of fuel, which can have a substantial environmental impact. Clients concerned about sustainability may need to weigh the allure of luxury against their ecological values and explore options for more eco-friendly charters.

The Cost of Luxury

Luxury comes at a price, and renting Lana is no exception. The cost of chartering this superyacht can be staggering, with prices varying depending on the season and itinerary. Potential clients should carefully consider their budget and assess whether the experience Lana offers aligns with their financial capabilities and priorities.

Making the Informed Decision

When contemplating renting Superyacht Lana, clients must navigate a myriad of factors. The key to making an informed decision lies in careful research, clear communication with the charter company, and understanding personal preferences and priorities. It’s essential to strike a balance between luxury, privacy, and environmental responsibility.

Celebrity Charms: Lana’s Star-Studded Guest List

The allure of the Lana Yacht, now known as “Mar” under the ownership of Mohamed Khalifa al Nahyan, transcends ordinary luxury. This superyacht boasts such opulence that it has drawn the attention of some of the world’s most renowned celebrities. In one memorable instance, tech magnate Bill Gates hosted an extravagant party aboard Lana, transforming the already luxurious vessel into a haven of extravagance for a night of revelry.

But Bill Gates isn’t the only celebrity to have graced Lana’s decks. Power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z also chose this remarkable yacht for a vacation, further cementing its reputation as a playground for the rich and famous. Their stay aboard Lana undoubtedly added a touch of stardom to the vessel’s history, making it a go-to choice for those who seek both luxury and exclusivity on the high seas. With such star-studded guests, Lana’s legacy as a floating paradise for the elite continues to glitter and shine under its new name, “Mar,” promising unforgettable experiences for those who step aboard.

In the world of luxury yachting, the Superyacht Lana by Benetti Yachts stands as a symbol of unparalleled opulence and indulgence. While its size and amenities are undeniably captivating, clients must consider the tradeoffs, challenges, and costs associated with such an extravagant charter. Ultimately, the decision to rent Lana should be a reflection of one’s desires, values, and an informed assessment of what this super yacht has to offer in the grand tapestry of luxury travel.

In conclusion, the Lana is a testament to the art of luxury at sea. However, it is essential for potential clients to embark on this journey with eyes wide open. Embracing the grandeur while acknowledging the complexities of balancing luxury, privacy, and environmental impact. The Lana experience is undoubtedly extraordinary. It’s a voyage that requires careful consideration and a discerning approach to ensure it aligns with the unique preferences and priorities.
