Ranking system for new Sail Simulator 5

The testing of the ranking system for Sail Simulator 5 have been successful. Within a couple of days more than hundred races have been sailed with about 50 sailors from several countries. Have a look at the Player Ranking lists under community.

The size of a multiplayer package has been reduced with up to a factor 7. This means that 4 full sessions of 16 ships of the 470 class can be sailed simultaniously. Also the number of sessions on which you can log-in has been doubled until 32.

A new Sail Simulator 5.1.6.0 has been released with some modifications. Now the mainsail twist of the VOR70 can be adjusted for more speed. Racing statistic has been placed on the homepage with full honour to the class leaders and the top3 of the last sailed race..

Five hints for a high score

• Race against many strong, high score sailors.
• The winner gets additional points.
• On a course of 4 times the length, you will earn twice the number of points.
• Also if a race stops before you can finish, you will get points. How much depends how far you did come. So, don't give up and sail until the race stops.
• Start at least once a week otherwise you will lose 10% of your score.

eSail sailing simulator V2 has numerous tutorials, sailing, mooring and anchoring modes, sailing challenges, races, Live Sailing mode, ‘Learn yachting with eSail’ training course and more.

For beginners you learn how to sail a 36′ sailing yacht including raising the sail, tacking, gybing, reefing, mooring and anchoring. For experts you can use the Quick Start tutorial then dive straight into the challenges.

You can then explore the waters surrounding the Shearwater Islands and seek out features such as the wreck of the Princess Zara, and join challenges such as sailing races and collision avoidance.

Virtual Skipper 5 enables you to skipper the finest competition boats currently available in over 14 different ocean water courses; the settings for the most prestigious international competitions such as Valencia, Auckland, Rio, Marseille...

If the regattas at the helm of the Class ACC boats is the highlight of this new Virtual Skipper title, the other class of boats are also featured in the game. Good program for a novice such as me.

This is a well-designed program with realistic wind characteristics and accurate -- if simple -- tiller and line controls. I especially like the clean graphics and the basic tutorial since I have little experience sailing. The regattas are challenging and the time-keeping encourages you to sail the same course several times in order to improve your skill steering, tacking, and judging when to jibe. Music is appropriately relaxing and the messages and tips are useful. Worth the time to explore and enjoy!

NED is the world's best sailing simulator for teaching basic understanding of sail trim.

NED teaches you how to set the sails for every wind angle.

Before you play with NED, read this first.

The graphic below is representative of a real wind meter on a sailboat. You'll notice that the red triangle represents the relative position of the wind to the boat. On a real wind meter, the boat always faces up because you're always behind the meter. With NED, for simulation purposes and to give you a feel that the boat is turning when you activate the helm button, the boat turns with the helm but it immediately flicks back up to it's normal proper position. You'll notice the wind direction and the HDG (compass heading) have changed appropriately.

How to use ned – the sailing simulator.

• First - mouse over each of the elements of NED and you'll learn what they do.
• NED is your virtual sailing instructor. NED will teach you how to correctly trim the sails on almost any sailboat with a mainsail and headsail.
• Your sails will be correctly trimmed when your boat speed reaches its maximum for any particular wind speed and direction.
• You can turn the boat into or away from the wind, let the sails out or tighten them up and you can adjust the speed of the wind.

NED represents the real world polar plot of a real racer cruiser sailboat. It’s the closest thing you can get to sailing instruction online.

Please play with NED. Once you've mastered NED – you'll be ready for real sail trim practice on the water.

NED's Elements

The helm is controlled by the split button at the bottom center of NED.

Click the starboard split and the sailboat will turn to starboard. You'll notice the boat will straighten up once you have released the helm button. This is because on a real wind meter on a real boat the boat always stays pointing up and the meter tells you where the wind is in relation to your boat. Once the boat straightens up, you'll notice the wind angle and the heading will have changed according to how much you turned.

Hold the helm button down and the boat will turn 5 degrees every ½ second or so.

Sails are controlled by the winches which are located on port and starboard at the bottom of NED. The starboard winch controls the head sail. The port winch controls the mainsail.

NED gives you a number above each winch to represent the number of turns on the winch. The jib sheet is winched between 12 turns (all the way out) and 45 turns (all the way in). The main sail is winched between 5 turns (all the way out) and 35 turns (all the way in).

Wind Vector

The red triangular arrow located outside the wind dial represents where the wind is coming from. Click on the triangular arrow and you'll be able to adjust the speed of the wind. Initially, the wind starts at 60 degrees off your starboard bow.

The heading changes when you click or hold down the helm button. Initially you are heading north.

Efficiency Meter

The horizontal meter at the bottom of NED indicates to you how efficient your sails are trimmed.

If the meter is all the way to the left you have some trimming to do. If it's all the way to the right, your sails are perfectly trimmed and your boat speed should be maximized.

The closer your boat is trimmed to 30 degrees off the wind and the greater the wind speed, the greater will be the heel angle. This represents the real world and there is nothing you can do about it except reef your sails. NED may incorporate this feature in latter versions.

The changing depth meter merely simulates that you are moving. There is no control here. However in the real world you should always watch the depth.

What happens during the Olympics Opening Ceremony?

The highlight of the Opening Ceremony is the Parade of Nations , where thousands of Olympians representing 206 countries make their grand entrance into the Games.

This year, rather than marching into a stadium, they will arrive by boat on the Seine.

SYDNEY (AP) — A rugby league player has been banned for eight games after using a racial slur against a rival during the Australian NRL’s season-opening round in Las Vegas.

A National Rugby League judiciary on Monday rejected a claim by Sydney Roosters forward Spencer Leniu that he didn’t know he was racially vilifying Ezra Mam when he directed the slur at the Brisbane Broncos player in the March 2 match.

The 23-year-old Leniu has Samoan heritage and has represented its national team. He was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia as a child.

He signed for the Roosters this season after playing for the defending champion Penrith Panthers since 2019.

Mam is an Indigenous Australian who has Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.

Leniu issued a public apology to Mam before the judiciary hearing, and offered to fly to Brisbane to apologize in person.

The Australian Associated Press quoted Leniu as telling the judiciary he thought he was “one brown man saying something to another brown man” and wasn’t aware of the racist connotations of his comment.

Mam reacted immediately during the game and complained to the referee, with the support of teammates. Leniu initially described the comment as “banter” during a post-match interview but later said he learned of the context after getting feedback on social media.

“I didn’t know how much that meant to the Indigenous community and his family,” said Lenui, who pleaded guilty to contrary conduct.

Mam didn’t attend the judiciary hearing but, in a written statement to the panel, said he was so angry when he heard the slur that he couldn’t focus on the game.

NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo said he commended Mam for taking a stand.

“It has been warming to see the game rally around him,” Abdo said. “I also acknowledge Spencer Leniu’s genuine remorse and apology and ask everyone to consider his wellbeing.”

Lenui will be eligible to return to play on May 12.

The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Sydney Roosters opened the NRL season with wins as part of a doubleheader at Las Vegas’ Allegiant stadium .

The Sea Eagles had a 36-24 victory over South Sydney before the Roosters beat the Broncos 20-10.
