2022 World Superyacht Awards winners

Published on May 22nd, 2022 by Editor -->

The 17th annual edition of the BOAT International World Superyacht Awards recognizes the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the most remarkable luxury yachts from across the world.

The winners of the 2022 awards include multiple categories for motor and sail, with the title of Sailing Yacht of the Year awarded to the entrant that is considered by the judges to be the most notable of the class winners in this year’s sailing yacht categories.

These two category winners were the 44.6-metre sloop Path , built by Baltic Yachts in Finland to the design of Bremerhaven-based judel/vrolijk & co design and Engineering, and the smaller 35.8 metre Perseverance 1 , from the drawing board of the Netherlands-based Dykstra Naval Architects and also built by Baltic Yachts with interior design by deVosdeVries Design.

Both yachts were conceived as fast cruisers with the aim of circumnavigating the globe in stages and, as their owners both invested a great deal of thought and experience into their designs, choosing the winner was a difficult task for the judges.

During discussions it was clear that although the judges admired Path as an enviably well-built and designed cruiser/racer, and praised her for her significant use of solar power, they narrowly selected the smaller Perseverance 1 as the Sailing Yacht of the Year.

This was largely due to the more single-minded “keep it simple” approach to cruising remote areas that drove the design of Perseverance 1, along with her attractive combination of traditional looks with exceptional sailing performance.

Additionally, she was praised for her efficient diesel-electric propulsion system and well-integrated technology that takes her batteries to full charge in just 4.5 hours and permits eight to nine hours of silent running at anchor. – Full report

BOAT International World Superyacht Awards 2020 winners announced

BOAT International World Superyacht Awards 2020 winners announced

The finest superyachts from across the globe have been recognised at the 15th annual edition of the International World Superyacht Awards. This year’s winners include Lady S (with the only Dolby 3D IMAX cinema ever installed on a superyacht) and the iconic 77.3-metre Pi, which accepted two Neptune awards for winning her individual class as well as the highly coveted prize of Motor Yacht of the Year.

The BOAT International World Superyacht Awards are said to recognise the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the most remarkable luxury yachts from across the world. The winners were revealed at a virtual ceremony. Some 57 nominees were presented to the panel of 20 current and former yacht owners.

“It’s been another exceptional year for the superyacht sector with some ground- breaking designs in this year’s entries. The winners of these awards represent the absolute pinnacle of yacht design and construction and, on behalf of the team at BOAT International, I’d like to offer heart-felt congratulations to this year’s winners,” says Stewart Campbell, editor-in-chief of BOAT International.

Highlighted International World Superyacht Awards winners include:

Refitted Yachts: Oasis (59.4m) Italian studio, FM Architettura d’Interni, refitted this legendary vessel to make it useful for three generations of its owners’ family. The main focus of the redesign was creating flexible living areas in preparation for the yacht’s first summer season with the new owners and their three-generational family. This included a redecorated sundeck, master cabin and the yacht’s public saloons to make them suitable for contemporary lifestyles.

Rebuilt Yachts: Vagrant (40m) Rebuilt by the Royal Huisman shipyard over a 22-month period, Vagrant was first designed by Nathanael G Herreshoff and launched in 1913. Vagrant was completely stripped out, with her interior and deck woodwork carefully taken apart for preservation. The hull was sandblasted, thin plates replaced, and all her rivets welded in place to avoid potential future leakage. All engine room equipment, wiring and piping was completely replaced at the Dutch yard, while her woodwork was repaired and restored where possible. The detailed work undertaken to preserve this magnificent yacht will allow her to sail for another 100 years.

Support Vessels: Hodor (66m) Built on a catamaran platform, Hodor’s 22.5-knot top speed is sufficient to outrun her mothership, making her able to prepare tenders and toys for immediate use when the mothership arrives and, on departure, pack up, overtake, and repeat the process. Hodor carries five tenders, the largest of which has a 17m overall length, and a whole host of toys. There are nine jet skis and four quadbikes, two all-terrain vehicles and two trail motorcycles, and two Laser dinghies and a Hobie Cat. In addition, there is also a submarine that is housed in a garage on the main deck.

Sailing Yachts and Sailing Yacht of the Year: Canova (43.3m) The eco-focused, 43.3m Canova was built by Baltic Yachts and designed by Bruce Farr as a fast cruising yacht. The judges admired her high quality of build, attractive lines, excellent layout, and innovative technology. Canova boasts ground-breaking innovation with her Dynamic Stability Systems foil, whose proven ability to reduce heel, increase speed and improve the comfort of the ride might just persuade more owners to build large sailing yachts. Canova took home two awards due to the ground-breaking DSS and environmental technology, but also the calm practicality of her interior design by the Milan-based Lucio Micheletti, and a general arrangement plan that placed the crew aft in excellent quarters.

Semi-Displacement or Planning Motor Yachts Below 500GT (30m to 34.9m): IV Dreams (32.8m) IV Dreams provides a well-balanced blend of good design, quality build and desirable facilities. The first of a new series from Custom Line, a member of the Ferretti Group, IV Dreams impressed the judges with its modern exterior styling, whose flowing lines incorporated large outdoor areas on the sundeck and foredeck. IV Dreams has four ensuite cabins – two doubles and two twins – each equipped with a Pullman berth, providing high-quality accommodation for guests. Additionally, the judges were impressed by the beach club that doubles as a tender garage and the well-designed crew quarters.

Semi-Displacement or Planning Motor Yachts Below 500GT (35m and Above): Mangusta Gransport 45 (45.3m) The 45.3m yacht provides excellent seagoing comfort and an extremely long range of 4,850 nautical miles. The yacht’s extensive deck areas were admired for the good use made of every square metre, while the beach club stern, with its three openings to the sea, was seen as most desirable. Large windows in the main saloon, some opening to the side decks, made for another light and airy space, with good connectivity to the surrounding seascape.

Displacement Motor Yachts Below 499GT (30m to 34.9m): The Beast The grey camouflage paintwork of this vessel suggests a small warship, perhaps a patrol boat, but this disguise was just one element of the owner’s detailed specification. Despite its forbidding, military exterior style, The Beast boasts deck spaces tailored for leisurely outdoor living, while concealing a luxurious fully featured interior. As an enthusiastic sport fisherman, the owner’s key requirement called for the ability to carry, and safely launch, a 13m, 19-tonne sport fishing vessel. The judges were also impressed with the launching system for the sport fishing boat, with a safe two-point lift provided by a pair of large knuckle-cranes.

Displacement Motor Yachts Below 499GT (40m and Above): Bintador (49.9m) Bintador was recognised for her modern exterior styling, practical layout of its decks and interior and the manner in which its interior volume was equitably shared between guest and crew areas. Bintador’s fuel economy also impressed the judges – a result of a refined hull shape and her being fitted with two 895kW diesels that are significantly smaller than those of her competitors. She is, nevertheless, able to reach 18 knots – a higher speed than her competitors by a clear 2 knots – because of her 300kW electric motors.

Displacement Motor Yachts Between 500GT and 999GT: Najiba (58m) Built at Feadship in Holland, with naval architecture and styling from Philippe Briand and his Vitruvius Yachts brand, Najiba’s numbers are phenomenal for a 58m yacht. Her top speed of 17-knots and her economical fuel burn at 12-knots demonstrated an extremely efficient hull design. Najiba’s interior layout, was considered fresh and innovative, particularly the yacht’s main entrance from the stern platform that rises up a central stairway from a reception area to the main deck aft. From here, arriving guests pass directly into the main saloon, a room that provides their first introduction to the much-admired work of the yacht’s Paris-based interior designer, Studio Liaigre.

Displacement Motor Yachts Between 1,000GT and 1,499GT: Metis (63m) The novel interior layout of Metis was designed to suit the exact needs of her owner, while meeting all of the modern design trends, including interiors with such good external visibility that they are at one with the surrounding seascapes. The beach club also achieves this connection, with its comfortable lounge and bar opening directly to the sea through three huge fold down hull openings – a design unhindered by any need to store tenders in the same area. Instead, the tenders are kept in a garage forward on the main deck between the helipad above and crew quarters beneath.

Displacement Motor Yachts Between 1,500GT and 1,999GT and Motor Yacht of the Year: Pi (77.3m) Bordering on ‘perfection’ with its harmonious Zen minimalism, seen in both its interior and exterior, the judges commended Pi’s remarkable build quality, superb design and innovation. Built by Feadship, the judges decided its incorporation of floor-to-ceiling windows without mullions, to create the owners’ dream of a main saloon that is truly at one with the exterior, was exceptional design. For the judges, the icing on the cake was the detail and harmony of every interior element and Feadship’s perfect quality of construction.

Displacement Motor Yachts Between 2,000GT and 4,999GT: Lady S (93m) Lady S, built by Feadship, features elegant exterior design by Michael Leach and interiors by Reymond Langton. The judges admired the yacht’s practical features, luxurious furniture and innovative layout, as well as features such as fire-pits on two levels and the largest sliding glass doors seen on any yacht. Moving to the interior, the judges noted the light that flooded through huge windows into the elegant living areas and her many special features, including a large gym on the bridge deck with expansive 180-degree views and a stunning beach club, as well as the only Dolby 3D IMAX cinema ever installed on a superyacht.

Displacement Motor Yachts 5,000GT and Above: Flying Fox At 136m, Flying Fox contains a beautiful, neutrally toned interior featuring dining tables for 22, a plant-filled double-height saloon, a winter garden observation saloon, and a world-beating spa and water sports centre set over two decks incorporating the first cryo-sauna seen on a yacht. The judges considered her to be an exceptional vessel, not only in technical achievement, but also for her owner and guest facilities, interior layout and extremely high quality of construction.

Voyager’s Award: Dorothea III Starting in Fort Lauderdale in January 2018, Dorothea III, a 45m Cheoy Lee motor yacht designed by Ron Holland, owned by Steven and Dorothea Green and captained by John Crupi, completed a 34,965-mile voyage, taking in the North and South Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. The voyage is particularly notable not only for its huge range but also for acts of philanthropy that raised $28,000 for humanitarian causes along the way.

Shirish Saraf, Kalizma owner, “I’m delighted that the Kalizma is the recipient of the prestigious “Judges’ Special Award” and had the honour to be nominated in the “Best Rebuilt Superyacht” category at the 2022 World Superyacht Awards Ceremony. The entire Kalizma team, supervised by the highly capable Aashim Mongia, Cpt. Surender Saini and Alessandro from Palazzo Morelli tirelessly worked to bring The Kalizma back to life. Alessandro Ortenzi, Palazzo Morelli , “We are extremely proud of this award, at least as much as we were when the Mr. Saraf honoured us with this remarkable assignment. The history, beauty and elegance of The Kalizma embody Palazzo Morelli’s essence perfectly. An approach that aims to read the past, bring it to life and reinterpret it through the taste and necessities of the current days.”Kalizma was a cover page article in the February 2022 edition of Boat International.

Ulyssia Residences AG presents 320m superyacht in collaboration with Espen Øino

Ulyssia Residences AG has presented a 320-metre residential superyacht concept at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2024.

Developed in collaboration with Espen Øino and Meyer Werft, Ulyssia will take residents to a "wonderful balance of destinations, from chic yachting ports to the world's most iconic cities, as well as the most remote locations on earth."

Accommodation is across 119 residences and 13 guest suites, with homes ranging from 166 square metres to over 1,400 square metres. Residences are offered in one to six-bedroom configurations and include reception rooms, open-plan kitchens and "generous terraces". Guest cabins are also available for the purpose of extended family use, as well as for invited lecturers and destination experts – with EYOS Expeditions joining the project as the vessel's "expedition partner".

Interiors are customisable and will be designed by FM Architettura , while Swiss-based Chenot will be handling the health and wellness activities on board. This includes a spa, sports and fitness centre and dental care. A medical facility will also be available, fitted with the "latest, high-quality equipment" such as X-rays, MRI, CT scanners, endoscopy and ultrasound equipment.

Other leisure highlights include a well-stocked signature wine cellar and a collection of restaurants which will feature a rotation of "world-renowned" and "up-and-coming" guest chefs.

Outdoors, a fully-equipped yacht club, marina, dive centre and submersibles are available to residents, alongside multiple indoor and outdoor pools found around the yacht. A theatre, extensive library and several conference rooms will also be featured, while two resident helicopters are on hand for transport, medical evacuations and to "facilitate epic adventures" such as heliskiing.

The design team has also promised to introduce "the most technologically advanced and sustainable power system available", including a "fully integrated system for recycling and processing of waste."

Ownership is in the form of a 50-year transferable and renewable lease, with the annual cost of ownership projected to be between three to 3.5 per cent of purchase cost.

Cannes Boss Thierry Fremaux on Courting ‘Megalopolis,’ Missing Out on ‘Dune 2’ and How Hollywood Strikes Will Impact 2024 Fest (EXCLUSIVE)

Thierry Fremaux

With one week to go before the press conference unveiling the 77th Cannes Film Festival Official Selection, director Thierry Fremaux  is pledging to remain zen — despite wrestling with submission delays, reverberations of Hollywood’s double strikes and high expectations after last year’s edition unveiled Oscar winners “The Zone of Interest” and “Anatomy of a Fall.”

This year’s edition is already heating up, with George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” confirmed to premiere at the festival and Quentin Dupieux’s “A Second Act,” starring Léa Seydoux, set as the opening night film.

Last year was a milestone year for the Cannes Film Festival. How did you approach this year’s lineup, and how many films have been selected so far?

The unanimous feedback we got is that 2023 was a really great year. Because 2022 was also successful, we weren’t sure we could do as well in 2023. Yet, it turned out to surpass all our hopes. Cinema always delivers nice surprises. We’re still at work. And each year, it’s the same mix of excitement and worry.

Right now, we still have a long way to go. Films are arriving later and later and the last choices are the most important. We have to avoid being overly impatient. We’re seeing a 20% rise in accreditation requests. We’re going to surpass the 2,000 films submitted for the selection. The interest for the festival is clear, and no matter what, it’s the films that create the atmosphere each year.

Quentin Dupieux’s film “A Second Act” will open this year’s festival. What was behind that decision?

Did you observe an impact from the Hollywood strikes on the volume of films, particularly U.S. films, submitted this year? Could that influence the number of big films, notably from studios, that will be presented?

Undeniably. I began to realize late last year the sizable impact of the strikes, which by the way resulted from a reflection that everyone deems important and necessary in the face of the world’s transformations. We’re seeing fewer American films than in previous years. That will undoubtedly be reflected in the final selection. We all know that 2024 is a bit of a “gap year” for American cinema, at least in the first semester. I went to Los Angeles twice this winter and felt that everybody was already looking at 2025. Lots of U.S. productions that were initially planned for 2024 will be released in 2025. But American cinema will still be very present in Cannes this year.

How so?

The big film of spring 2024 is “Furiosa” and it will play at Cannes. Warner has always been extremely loyal toward the Cannes Film Festival. Selfishly, I would have liked the studio to wait until Cannes to unveil “ Dune 2 ” to the world, but I understand that it was important for them to release it at the beginning of the year since it had already been pushed back this fall. In any case, there isn’t a decline of interest in the Cannes Film Festival and cinema in general, and it’s more a question of a limited number of films ready.

And this year’s Cannes will also be presided over by an American filmmaker, Greta Gerwig.

Absolutely. [Cannes President] Iris Knobloch and I are happy that Greta Gerwig accepted our invitation. She embodies perfectly the spirit of the Cannes Film Festival through her passion for cinema and her brilliant path in both the arthouse and Hollywood landscapes. To me, Greta Gerwig possesses the creativity and the open-mindedness of a generation of artists who are bending the codes. All this makes her an ideal jury president.

I know you would like “Megalopolis” to play at Cannes. Are you talking to Francis Ford Coppola?

I’ve known Francis since the centenary of cinema in 1995, and when I had my first year at Cannes, he came to present “Apocalypse Now Redux” — a huge souvenir. Since then, we’ve always stayed in touch and recently he received the Lumiere Prize in 2019 (Fremaux’s festival in Lyon). He’s a man who survived all the battles, and yet he has kept an appetite for life and for cinema that is extraordinarily stimulating. “Megalopolis” is a project that he wanted to achieve for so long and he did it independently, in his own way, as an artist. He built the legend of the Cannes Film Festival and it would be an honor to welcome him back, as a filmmaker who comes to present his new film.

Emma Stone just won the best picture Oscar for best actress for her role in “Poor Things.” Will “Kinds of Kindness” be shown in Cannes?

Foreign-language films “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest” were nominated in the best picture category at the Oscars. What do you think of that?

We talked about this last year and my position sparked some discussions. Perhaps I’m conservative, but I still think that the best picture Oscar should be reserved for American films, just like the best film at the Cesar Awards honor the best French film (it was the case again this year with “Anatomy of a Fall”) and the Goya honor the best Spanish film. These awards are important and can strengthen national productions as well as stimulate film industries in each country. I admire enormously the political positions of the Academy and their willingness to open themselves up to the world. But for non-American films there is the best international feature film category, which is an extremely prestigious reward. It’s equally great that these films are being nominated in other categories. Anyway, that’s only my opinion. I love the Oscars, and I also love the Golden Globes where I was present, too.

What do you think about the fact that “Anatomy of a Fall” wasn’t selected to represent France at the Oscars?

It’s already an old story. Above all, I regret that [“The Taste of Things”] failed to be nominated as one of the five best international features. It’s a beautiful film, which won a prize at Cannes and deserved to be at the Oscars. Yet, when we see the awesome destiny of “Anatomy of a Fall” with all these nominations, we can say that it had a great shot. But “The Zone of Interest” is a fantastic winner. So we’re back to our initial conclusion — 2023 was a grand year for cinema.

Do you think Cannes’ rule that every film in competition must come out in theaters will evolve?

It’s a decision that has to be taken by the board. But it’s a good rule: We favor films that come out in theaters because France is a great country for cinema and must remain a great country for theatrical exhibition. The Cannes Film Festival is about films in theaters. We can also welcome films from other supports. A “platform” film is still a film, but if it doesn’t come out in theaters it’s different — and if it’s different, it’s being treated differently when it comes to the competition. But being out of competition is another way, equally as spectacular [as the competition], to be present at Cannes. In the world, people congratulate us for fighting for movie theaters and we’re proud of that. But we also want streaming services to feel at home at Cannes. We’re in constant dialogue with them.

Could Netflix return to Cannes?

I hope so. Netflix is welcome on the Croisette and nothing forbids their presence. They could have a beautiful festival by being, for instance, out of competition. I’m making an appeal to my friend Ted once again. Come back!

Do you talk to other streamers?

Do you take risks in your selection of films ?

Choosing a film is always taking a risk, especially since choosing a film means renouncing another one — this year, there are more than 2,000 films submitted. And I’ll say it again, we see them all. You won’t believe me but we, like filmmakers, never know how a film will be received before the first screening. It’s what makes Cannes magical.

The selection is made by the selection committee, and then by the press and the public. It’s the gaze of critics and spectators that builds the prestige of films. What guides us isn’t “I like” or “I don’t like,” and even less “It’s good” or “iI’s not good.” What guides us is, “Should this films be presented at Cannes or not?” or “Will a presentation at Cannes be beneficial for this film?” or “What does the selection of this film says about the state of world cinema?” The Official Selection gives, year after year, a strong indication of what cinema has become, its changes, evolutions and what remains immutable. It’s as important to make aesthetic discoveries as it is to show films that will have an audience right away. Because the Official Selection goes well beyond the competition.

Will there be a greater number of female directors in competition?

I expected this question because it’s pertinent. The place of female directors in the film world has hugely increased in recent years and they’re more and more. We must be attentive so that it remains the case. At Cannes, whenever we hesitate between two films, we always choose the film directed by a women filmmaker because they’re not as many as male directors. But as we know, a festival is only the reflection of a general situation, and they’ll be more female directors at Cannes if we favor their emerging everywhere in the world and especially in film schools.

The Berlin Film Festival was very politicized this year. Do you think being political is the role of a festival?

France is going through a #MeToo reckoning at the moment. How do think this movement can shape French cinema?

It’s been a very strong shockwave and the impact is very strong. #MeToo was and still is a world movement that resonated and continues to resonate in France. In each country, mentalities evolve, the film industry evolves at the same time as our society and it’s fortunate. There’s been numerous testimonies, the one of Adèle Haenel which triggered many things, and more recently the one by Judith Godrèche. There are also associations that give us necessary insight, and actresses that tell us crazy things that happened on certain shoots. We’re always listening and remain extremely attentive about what’s happening today to measure the past, which now seems extremely troubled. The uproar of the younger generation is strong. The collective awareness is permanent. In France, the film world is at the forefront of the debate. But let’s not believe that the rest of society doesn’t have to interrogate itself.

Are you going to take steps to avoid selecting films by people who are being accused of sexual misconduct?

There’s an ongoing reflection on this matter in France. The director is primarily responsible for a film in France, which has emphasized the importance of the “auteur of a film” for the last 50 years. But a film is also a collective work. Dozens of people allow a film to exist and thrive. Should we, because a member of a group faces an accusation, penalize the entire group? Penalize a film that brought together artists, producers and crew members? Because police investigations leak in the press and social networks, it amplifies their echo and doesn’t facilitate a serene and careful decision process. A festival can do many things, but it can’t and shouldn’t substitute itself to the justice system. The presumption of innocence remains a fundamental value, as is the attention that we owe to testimonies of victims.

Many people were outraged about the presence of Johnny Depp on opening night last year. Would you do it again?

Believe it or not, we had not measured the impact and turmoil that the presence of Johnny Depp would cause. The opening film must come out the same day in French theaters — it was the case for “Jeanne du Barry.” Maiwenn, who had received several prizes at Cannes before, is part of Cannes’ family, she’s a talented filmmaker. We loved her film. That justified its presence in the selection.

You sometimes make decisions that are perceived as not “politically correct.” Why?

Could we see any Israeli or Palestinian films in the Official Selection?

Nothing forbids it. Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers, like intellectuals from these two countries in general, are traditionally favorable to a dialogue and those whom I know are calling for an end of the conflict and the opening of negotiations.

House Republicans push to rename Dulles International Airport for Donald Trump

A top House Republican introduced legislation Tuesday that would rename Washington Dulles International Airport after  former President Donald Trump .

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler’s bill seeks to rechristen the Northern Virginia hub, located about 25 miles outside the nation’s capital, as Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) is the House GOP’s chief deputy whip and his effort is backed by at least half a dozen members of the Republican caucus, including Reps. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Troy Nehls (R-Texas), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), Barry Moore (R-Ala.), and Mike Waltz (R-Fla.).

“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump,” Reschenthaler said in a statement.

A group of House Republicans are pushing to rename the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after former President Donald Trump.

“As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,” he added.

The Pennsylvania Republican cited the 45th president’s record on the economy, energy policy and border security, his historic number of judicial appointments , and his “peace through strength” diplomacy as reasons to bestow him with the honor.

“Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That’s what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump — the best president of my lifetime,” Reschenthaler wrote on X.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler.

The bill has virtually no chance of becoming law with Democrats controlling the Senate and the White House.

Virginia Democrats blasted Reschenthaler’s efforts to rename Dulles after the presumptive GOP nominee for president.

“Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison,” Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) wrote on X.

Connolly’s 11th District seat encompasses parts of the sprawling international airport, which in 2023 was ranked 33rd out of 764 U.S. airports in terms of passenger traffic, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

“This is just another in a long list of instances where extreme House Republicans have shown how unserious & delusional they are,” tweeted Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.), whose 10th Congressional District includes the rest of Dulles.

“Let’s get to work on the real issues the American people sent us here for — not renaming an airport after someone who sought to undermine our democracy,” she added.

The bill has little chance of being taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), another Northern Virginia Democrat opposed to the bill, argued that Trump’s 2017 travel ban from five Muslim-majority countries “blocked permanent American residents from their own country” by barring them from entering the US through Dulles.

“I went to Dulles to try to help innocent people caught up in the chaos,” Beyer wrote on X. “I remember grandparents detained for hours as their terrified families waited.”

Beyer argued that the Republicans sponsoring the bill “know Dulles will never be renamed after Trump.”

“Again, that’s not the point, the point is to suck up to their Dear Leader.”

Dulles Airport, which opened in 1962, is named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who also represented New York in the Senate as a Republican for four months in 1949.
