Functionality [ ]

Keycards are used to open Vaults situated at specific locations. Only the allocated keycard will open a specific vault. Simply having a keycard in the inventory when interacting with its designated vault will open it.

Keycards take up a slot in the Player's inventory. If held, they ping the location of the vault with a three-dimensional arrow in front of the player, every few seconds.

All Vault locations in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2

Image of Gavin Mackenzie

Vaults have long been important locations in Fortnite , so it’s important to know where they are. The Vaults in Fortnite Chapter Five, season two are still where they used to be, but only four of the ten are worth visiting right now.

There are still ten Vaults (not to be confused with Weapons Bunkers ) in the same locations as in season one, but five of them are just sitting open and do not have multiple chests inside—just a little bit of ordinary floor loot. Of the other five, one doesn’t appear to be openable—namely, the one on The Marigold. That just leaves four Vaults worth visiting, and I’ve marked and described their locations below.

Where are the Vaults in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2?

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 Vaults map

The map above shows the locations of the four Vaults in Fortnite Chapter Five, season two.

  • The first is in the basement of a small building by the railroad east of Rebel’s Roost and northwest of Lavish Lair .
  • The next is at Coastal Comms, which is a comms station on top of a mountain in the northeast corner of the map. It’s east of Catcher’s Cove, northeast of Classy Courts and northwest of Slumberyard.
  • The third Vault is under Estate Station, a small railway station southeast of Lavish Lair. It’s close to The Ol’ Mill, which is on the other side of the river to the northeast.
  • The final Vault is at the rear of Unmoored Manor, which is on a small peninsula on the south coast between Brawler’s Battleground and Snooty Steppes.

How to open the the new Vaults in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2

Eliminating a Vault Commander

All the Vaults in Fortnite Chapter Five season two are Keycard Vaults , meaning that they can only be opened using a Keycard. Keycard Vaults have been around for nearly a year now, but judging by search traffic, some players are in need of a refresher.

Every Keycard Vault is protected by automated security systems and a team of NPC guards. Shoot any cameras that try to target you when you approach the Vault and then set to work eliminating each of the guards . Look out for the guard named Commander , as that’s the one that will drop the Keycard when eliminated. Pick up the Keycard, then use it on the panel outside the Vault to open it.

After a long-haul, Fortnite 's Season 1 is finally over, and it's time for Season 2 to shine. Season 1 has been one of the longest seasons in the game, but now that it's finally over, Fortnite is seeing some changes with the beginning of Season 2 . There are map changes, new features, and a lot of new content added to the game with the new season, and players are already running into a bit of trouble trying to complete new challenges in the game.

Those who've run into a bunch of locked vault doors in  Fortnite will definitely be wondering what the deal is with these sealed vaults. Whenever players interact with a locked door, they will see a "Requires Keycard" message pop-up, which simply means players need to get a special keycard to open these vaults. The game does not specify where on Fortnite 's map players will find the keycards, but this simple guide will show Fortnite players the exact locations of these keycards.

What are Fortnite vaults

The new Fortnite vaults are locked rooms that contain high-quality loot inside. Players can not get into these vaults without the keycards, so they need to hunt down specific mini-bosses to get the keycard for each locked room. The bosses and the vaults are scattered around the map; here's how to find each mini-boss.

Where to Find Keycards in Fortnite

There are five keycard locations, each with its own mini-boss, so players will have to venture far across the Fortnite map to acquire each card. The image above showcases the exact location of each keycard.

The Shark Keycard Location

The Shark keycard is located at The Shark location, which is in the northwest corner of the map. The locked vault is located in the basement, and players must defeat Skye to get the keycard. She's an easy one to beat as she does not have a lot of health, so shoot her down quickly and get the keycard.

The Rig Keycard Location

The Rig can be found in the southwest corner of the map. TNTina is the mini-boss of the rig, but similar to Skye, she doesn't have a lot of health either. So, players will have an easier time killing her and getting the keycard. The vault is inside one of the enormous legs that support the entire rig.

The Grotto Keycard Location

Head over to The Grotto, which is located northeast of Retail Row. Enter the north side of the facility to find the vault and also Brutus, the mini-boss for The Grotto. Unlike previous mini-bosses, Brutus has a lot of health and takes a while to kill, so make sure to avoid his shots. Also, take out all the henchmen in the area, or they might pose a serious threat as well. Kill Brutus to get the keycard for the vault .

The Yacht Keycard Location

The Yacht is located in the northeast corner of the map, and Meowscles is the mini-boss of this area. This one is another beefy boss that takes a lot of hits to defeat. He'll be in the main room with a bunch of henchmen around him, so take them all out at once to acquire the keycard for the vault. The Yacht's vault is located on the lower deck.

The Agency Keycard Location

The Agency is situated right in the middle of the map, and this is where players will run into Midas, the gold-loving boss who takes no prisoners. He's often found inside the main building patrolling along with a few henchmen, so make sure to kill or avoid the henchmen before taking him on. Once players acquire the keycard, they will have to head over to the basement to find the Agency vault.

In Fortnite , there are a couple of different vaults. There is the vault where all of the community’s favorite weapons lie and then another one. In that other vault, it is found on the island itself. Players can open up the vault with a keycard and gather fantastic loot. This Fortnite keycards guide will give you all of the details you need on those very keycards.

The Fortnite keycards guide will cover every single keycard to ever be in the game. This includes the ones in both Chapters 2 and 3. In addition, we will let you know how to get the keycard and what it is for. To help with all of this, we will make sure to give you the locations of each keycard, boss, and vault.

Bottom Line Up Front

The Fortnite keycards are an exceptional item in the battle royale game . Keycards are keys in the shape of cards that unlock particular doors. Those doors are vault doors that give you access to the best loot in a match. Players can find legendary items and weapons instantly by using a keycard to enter a vault. That is why it is so important to get one of these keycards in each match you do. However, it is tricky since the only way to get a card is to take out the NPC boss who holds it. Here are all of the cards that we will cover in this Fortnite keycards guide:

  • Agency Keycard
  • Authority Keycard

Catty Corner Keycard

Covert cavern keycard, doom’s domain keycard.

  • Fortilla Keycard
  • Grotto Keycard
  • Rig Keycard
  • Shark Keycard

Alter Keycard

What is a fortnite keycard item.

Fortnite Keycard Item

For starters, what is a keycard? It is a card that unlocks a door that is in card form. That part is understandable enough, but it has an exceptional purpose in the game. Keycards are there as an item that is elusive and hard to acquire.

But if you can get one in a match, you will be all the better for it. It will help instantly gear you up for the fights ahead. It is one of the most essential items in the game. Few players actually care about the keycards and try to find them. This leaves the door for players like yourself to swoop in and take advantage of this.

What is also noteworthy about keycards is that they are not standard items . There is about one of each keycard in every match that you do. If someone gets it first, oh well, it is already taken. Because of this, it does lead to the areas where the card is to be popular. So anyone going to get a keycard should be prepared for some fights.

Keycard Purpose Explained

The purpose of the keycard is to open up a specific door with it. The keycard on its own is pretty useless if you do not use it for its purpose. That purpose is to open up the vault. There is only one vault door associated with each keycard in the game.

With only one of each keycard type in a match, that means that you will need it if you want to open up the vault. This is why players must go immediately to the keycard location if they want to enter the vault. Fortunately, that is where we come in, as we will help you with just that.

Vaults Explained

Vault

Vaults are particular areas in Fortnite matches that cannot be accessed without a keycard. They are essentially the single most significant area of loot in every game. In most Fortnite seasons that include vaults, there are multiples of them, so more than one team can take advantage of it.

Inside the vault, you will find the black and gold chests that are massive. These are the best treasure chests in the entire battle royale game . You are almost always guaranteed to find some legendary items or weapons there. There will be plenty of recovery items , too, including large shield potions.

Players can sometimes find some of the most elusive weapons , too, that are unique to that particular season. This is why it is so vital that you go to vaults if you can. They can prepare you with the best gear around right from the very start of the match. I know that vaults are typically where I go first about half the time in matches. It is dangerous but most definitely worth it.

In general, there are two types of vaults that you should know about. The first of these are general vaults that do not require a keycard, while the other type does require keycards. For the ones that do not need a keycard, they are pretty easy to deal with.

The player simply needs to head here, and they can open up the vault door without any issue whatsoever, except for the fact that it does take two or more players to open the door. That is still the gimmick for this type of vault, as you cannot open it without at least one other person.

This is even the case in solo battle royale matches, too. I have seen situations in the past where two solo players will make a temporary truce to open a vault together. Then they will either gear up and go their separate ways to meet on the battlefield again in the future or have a duel to the death with their overpowered items.

In general, though, the first type of vault is the easier one to handle, especially if you like to play team-based modes. The other one, though, is a bit trickier to handle. That type is the keycard type of vault where you are only able to open it up with a keycard.

To make matters worse, not all keycard items open up the same vault. There are some seasons in the past where there has been more than one keycard type. Unfortunately, that keycard will only open up the vault associated with it. So even if there is more than one vault, you have to head to the right one to unlock it with the keycard.

How to Obtain a Keycard in Fortnite

So, since some vaults can only be unlocked with keycards, where do you even get them? That is a great question and each keycard is only found by killing the person holding the card. There is an NPC boss enemy in each match that holds their respective keycard.

Only that NPC boss will hold the keycard in their possession so going to another one on the island will not work. You will need to take out that specific NPC and they will drop the keycard. In addition, they will typically drop some other great loot, too, like perhaps a mythic weapon.

You will need to physically pick up the keycard and then locate the vault that it goes to. Fortunately, most of the time, the vault for the keycard is nearby to the boss themselves. This makes taking out the boss and then opening up the vault a pretty simple task once you repeat it a few times.

Of course, most of the NPC boss enemies are rather difficult to take down. They will usually have a ton of health and shields, way more than the average player can even have. To make matters worse, they sometimes have special weapons and powers to assist them in battle.

If that is not enough, they will sometimes even have other NPC enemies that act as their guards. And that is all before including the fact that there are other players you need to worry about, too. It can be a challenging task to get that keycard. Some matches in my experience were super easy and simple while others resulted in my swift demise. And still, others were a grueling gauntlet to open up the vault but was successful.

Technically, there is still one more way that you are able to get the keycard but this is exceedingly rare. If another player in the game somehow gets the keycard before you, you could take them out. If you are able to defeat them, they will then drop that same keycard item themselves.

This is rare and difficult to make happen. This is because the proximity between the keycard location and the vault is usually pretty small. So, it does not take long for a player to obtain the keycard and open up the vault. That said, it is possible to do it this way, if necessary. In my experience, it has only happened like this maybe two times. Usually, I just take someone out while they are opening up the vault and vulnerable.

All Fortnite Keycards Guide

All Keycards

In total, there are about 12 different keycards that have ever been released in Fortnite. It began in Chapter 2 where this system was first introduced. It was a novel feature at the time and has come back several times since then. While not an always active feature, keycards are at least frequently recurring.

We are going to go over every single keycard that has ever been in Fortnite battle royale . We will break down when it was released in the game and other details. This information will include where the keycard was, who had it, and where the vault was that it would open up. Let’s go ahead and get started.

Chapter 2, Season 2 Keycards

The first keycards to show up in Fortnite was in Chapter 2, Season 2. During this spy-themed season, many spy bosses appeared around the island. Alongside this, there were five new named locations that joined the game. At each of these, players could find a vault, a keycard, and a boss connecting both of them.

The Agency Keycard

The first on this list (in alphabetical order) is The Agency keycard. You could also argue that this was the most popular keycard at its time. The Agency was one of the new areas that were introduced in the same season as the keycards and vaults.

The Agency was conveniently located at the very center of the Chapter 2 island. There, players had a popular and easy-to-access destination that they could visit. It was also home to one of the most accessible vaults on the map at the time.

That was The Agency vault in the middle of the named location. It was a great place to gear up at the very start of a match. However, to do this, though, players had to take out the boss who had the keycard. That boss was none other than Midas himself.

The problem with finding and taking out Midas was that The Agency was covered in enemies. Couple that with the other players who almost always visited here, and you have a lot of trouble. The Agency keycard was an infamous one that I, personally, never even attempted to get.

The Grotto Keycard

The Grotto Keycard

Next up is The Grotto keycard. The Grotto is one of the most unique locations to ever release in Fortnite. It was an underground named location that was also a base and helipad. It was underneath the island itself with a massive hole in the ground that led to it.

The Grotto was unique and it had loads of NPC enemies that roamed the fortress. This included the boss of them all: Brutus. The vault at this location was easy to find since there was not too much to The Grotto once you got there.

But the problem was taking out enough of the enemies to get to Brutus and also take him out for the keycard. Overall, this was one of the least popular destinations in Season 2 for the keycards. This was also due to the out-of-the-way nature of The Grotto on the far eastern side of the map.

The Rig Keycard

The Rig was one of the trickier locations to get a keycard. Found near Slurpy Swamp, The Rig was a floating oil rig off the coast of the island. It was pretty difficult to reach and even harder still to get off of. That said, The Rig was also home to a vault of its own, even though it was floating in the water.

The boss of The Rig was TNTina, a fan-favorite character. As you could guess from her namesake, she is a fan of explosives. To add to the fact that you are nearly one step away from falling off The Rig at any time and you have one of the more challenging locations.

But if you could take out TNTina, you could have access to the nearby Rig vault that was easy to find. Furthermore, like The Grotto, it was not too terribly popular with most players out there.

The Shark

The Shark was another location that was in the middle of nowhere. On the northwestern side of the island, The Shark was its own separate location. It was basically an island that had a massive shark atop it. The commander of this location was Skye.

If players were able to make it to this remote area, they would find that Skye was one of the easier enemies. If you could take her out, you would get the keycard to one of the most iconic vaults in the game. The Shark vault is a popular one that stuck through multiple seasons of the game.

That said, it was only in Season 2 that it needed the keycard to open it up.

The Yacht Keycard

Lastly, for this season, we have The Yacht. The Yacht was found off the coast of the eastern side of the island when it was first released. There is something that is rather unique about this location when it comes to keycards and bosses.

The Yacht was a massive luxury boat that players could visit. On it, there were plenty of NPC guards and loot to find. Rarely did most players ever visit here and that was because of its stranded nature. It was hard to get to the mainland from this boat, which made it unpopular.

That said, it was my go-to in this season when it came to loot and opening up the vault. There were rarely players who would visit this location and the NPC enemies were easy to pick off one by one. It helped that stealth was made for this particular area.

What made The Yacht unique is that it has had two keycards in the same season no less. At first in Season 2, Meowscles was the boss here. If you took this humanoid cat figure out, you could get the vault keycard. You could then open up the vault, which was sometimes annoying to locate in this confusing area.

But once Deadpool arrived in the game as the secret skin, it all changed. Deadpool took over The Yacht and made it his own. As such, he became the boss enemy here and players had to take him out for the keycard. It also changed the design of the keycard item to look more like him. With such unique elements about it, The Yacht keycard is one of the most memorable in this category.

Chapter 2, Season 3 Keycards

Epic Games continued the keycard trend in the following season after its introduction with Chapter 2, Season 3. In this season, we went down from about five keycards to now only three. They were each found at different locations with different boss enemies to fight. That is except for The Agency that was now known as The Authority. It remained a location for one of the vaults.

The Authority Keycard

The Authority Keycard

In Season 3, The Agency changed to The Authority. A slightly different and more interesting area, The Authority featured some major changes. One such change was the keycard item for it. Since it was no longer The Agency, it needed to change its keycard item.

The Authority keycard was born and it had a notably different design from its predecessor. Furthermore, it was now time for Midas to say goodbye and no longer be the enemy that players would have to take on to get the keycard.

Instead of Midas, the new boss enemy was Jules. This boss enemy required new strategies for players to get the keycard from her. But the same general idea of beating her and unlocking essentially the same vault still stuck around.

With the end of Meowscles reign at The Yacht in Season 2, he moved to Catty Corner. In Season 3, Meowscles moved over for his family member, Kit, to appear. Kit, a fellow cat humanoid, became the new boss enemy that players had to beat for the keycard.

Kit differed in that they were a cat that piloted a mech suit, rather than the bulk biceps that Meowscles was. Kit was a slightly different boss but the fact remained that players had to beat them for the keycard. Upon doing so, they were able to open up the Catty Corner vault.

This was also the first time that Catty Corner featured a vault as that was not the case in Season 2. With the removal of The Yacht keycard and others, Catty Corner became a new favorite for some players due to its more secluded region.

The Fortilla Keycard

The Fortilla Keycard

The third and final keycard in Season 3 was The Fortilla. As you may already know, Season 3 saw the end of The Rig and other named locations. The massive flood destroyed much of the island and resulted in some new areas, too.

One such new area was The Fortilla. This became the new de facto water-based region that players could visit on the map. The Fortilla was a unique location and a popular one for players to visit. That is, of course, if you could avoid the marauders who searched the seas for players to take advantage of.

The leader for The Fortilla and the enemy that you had to beat for the keycard there was Ocean. She was a not too powerful enemy but you had to worry about the weird location here and the other NPC enemies. If you could take her out, though, you had a pretty easy way of opening a vault.

Chapter 2, Season 4 Keycards

Epic Games continued the trend once more with a third season in a row of keycards in Chapter 2, Season 4. In this Marvel-themed season, the number of keycards was further reduced. This time around, there were only two of these that players were able to find. That said, they required taking down some difficult bosses.

Doom’s Domain Keycard

The first of the only two keycards in Season 4 was the Doom’s Domain one. For the first time in the history of Fortnite, Pleasant Park changed names to Doom’s Domain. Though the location was largely the same, Doctor Doom took over as the villain here.

Doctor Doom was also one of the hardest bosses to fight in the entire season. If you wanted this elusive keycard, you had to go through a powerful boss and other players. The location was popular and this made getting this card difficult.

Stark Industries took over the Frenzy Farm area and turned it into Upstate New York. Here, Iron Man/Tony Stark waited for players to fight him. Also one of the toughest bosses in Fortnite history, it took a lot to take down Iron Man and get his keycard. To make matters worse, other players frequented this area.

Chapter 3, Season 1 Keycard

Most recently, Epic Games brought back the keycard system after being gone for quite some time. It returned in Chapter 3, Season 1 with a single keycard available. It is more limited now than ever before. That said, this one keycard is found in a pretty remote place on the island so it is also the most difficult to find.

Covert Cavern Keycard

The only keycard that is available right now is the Covert Cavern one. To get it, players have to visit this location in the northwestern area of the map where the snowy region is. There, players need to defeat Gunnar, a very strong enemy who will not go down without a huge fight. Defeating him grants the Covert Cavern keycard.

Vaulted Keycard

There is, technically, one more keycard left to go over. However, this one is a bit strange of a situation. This final keycard is one that is in the vault (the other vault) and has always been. It is in the backend of the game and has never been used to date.

The Alter keycard is an unused one in the Fortnite backend. It is believed by some that it would have been the Shadow version of the Ghost keycard in Season 2 but was never implemented that way. That said, its design was later used for The Authority keycard.

Question: What are the keycards for in Fortnite?

Answer : The keycard items in Fortnite are strictly for opening up vaults in the game. That is the main and sole purpose of each of them. The keycard on its own is a rather useless item. It is only by using it to open up one of the unbelievably valuable vaults that you can see its real purpose.

Question: How do you get the keycard in Fortnite?

Answer : There is only one way to get the keycard in Fortnite and that is to take it from someone else. As mentioned previously in this guide, this can either be a boss NPC enemy or another player. The latter is exceptionally rare since the location of the vault is usually just nearby. That said, the first is the method that most players will go through. You locate the NPC boss enemy who holds the correct keycard and then take it from them. This requires defeating a powerful enemy who will not go down without a huge fight. But if you are able to take them down, you will receive the keycard. Some tips that we have for taking out NPC enemies is to make sure that other players and NPC enemies are not around. From there, you just need to make sure to have at least a little bit of decent gear to defeat the enemy. I have noticed that most NPCs with a keycard are not the hardest around. They are not The Foundation-level of difficulty at least. In addition, if another team is fighting the boss, go ahead and let them do it. Chances are, they will either be defeated or win; both of which are good results. If they lose, the enemy will be weakened for you to finish them. If they win, the other players will be weak for you to take them out. I also highly recommend only taking on NPC bosses with at least one other teammate.

Question: Where does Meowscles’ keycard lead to?

Answer : If you defeat the NPC boss Meowscles and take his keycard, there is only one place that it will lead to. That keycard will lead you to the vault that is at the same named location. That place is Catty Corner, the home of Meowscles, and where you will find the vault that goes to the Catty Corner keycard.

The Fortnite keycards guide honed in on that single item in the battle royale game . Though keycards are small and elusive, they are still an important part of gearing up in certain seasons. If you are able to pick up one of these cards and open the vault, you are good to go for most fights ahead.

That said, the keycards are rather rare items that some players will never obtain. As such, we have a more general items guide for Fortnite that you should take a look at. In that guide, we go over some of the more popular and common items that you should know about.

All Vault Locations in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1

Image of Rowan Jones

Vaults have returned to Fortnite in Chapter 5 Season 1 and are a great way of getting some decent loot. If you want to get your hands on the goodies inside these locked rooms then read on to find out all vault locations in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1.

Vaults can be great landing spots if you like some action when you start the match! There are two different types of vault in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1: some which require a Keycard and some which require a Medallion. The Keycard vaults are smaller and the NPCs are easier to fight off while the Medallion vaults have super tough NPC bosses. It is important to note that when you are holding a medallion your general location will be shown on the map in the form of a large yellow circle . Listed below we have all of the Medallion Vaults first followed by the Keycard Vaults.

Snooty Steppes Vault

snooty steppes fortnite landing spot

The Snooty Steppes vault is guarded by Peter Griffin and his henchmen. The only way into the vault is by defeating Peter and grabbing the medallion he drops.

This medallion is the key to the vault and also gives you auto-regenerative shields throughout the rest of the match. Defeating Peter Griffin won’t be easy as he regenerates his shields (while dancing!) once during a fight. He is also impervious to any damage while he is regenerating. Take this time to heal up yourself and take out some of his henchmen. Once defeated you can take the medallion and his Mythic Hammer Pump Shotgun. The medallion will show you the way to the vault where you can grab some high rarity weapons, open weapon cases , and mod your existing weapons at the weapon bench.

Fencing Fields Vault

yacht keycard fortnite

A vault also lies at Fencing Fields and is guarded by Nisha and her henchmen. The vault can be accessed by anyone who can defeat Nisha and take her medallion.

Nisha’s medallion is the key to the Fencing Fields vault and gives you auto-regenerative shields throughout the rest of the match. Defeating Nisha is tough as she also regenerates her shields once during a fight. While she is distracted you can heal up and grab some more ammo. Once defeated you can take Nisha’s medallion and her Mythic Striker AR. The medallion will indicate the path to the vault where you can find weapon cases, grab some high rarity weapons, and mod your existing weapons.

Reckless Railways Vault

reckless raily location fortnite chapter 5

Reckless Railways is home to Valeria and her guards. This particular vault can be accessed only if you can defeat Valeria and take her medallion.

Valeria’s medallion is the key to the Reckless Railways vault and, like the others, gives you auto-regenerative shields throughout the rest of the match. Valeria and her guards are a formidable group of enemies but of you keep moving and try to get to high ground they can be defeated pretty quickly. Don’t forget that Valeria, like the other bosses, will regenerate shields once during the fight. Once defeated you can take Valeria’s medallion and her Mythic Hyper SMG. The medallion will show you to the Reckless Railway vault where you can find weapon cases, high rarity weapons, and mod your existing weapons.

Grand Glacier Vault

grand glacier vault fortnite

Montague can be found at the Grand Glacier location. Get into the vault using Montague’s medallion once he has been defeated.

You can use Montague’s medallion to enter the Grand Glacier but first he must be defeated. Fighting Montague is not easy as he has the same regenerative shields as the other boss NPCs . The key to defeating his is to make sure you have plenty of ammo and a few healing items to hand. Once defeated you can take Montague’s medallion and her Mythic Enforcer AR. Pick up the medallion to find your way to the vault where you can load up with weapons or mod your existing weapons.

Lavish Lair Vault

lavish lair vault fortnite

Lavish Lair is home to Oscar and his henchmen. The only way into the vault under the lair is to defeat Oscar and grab his medallion.

Oscar’s medallion acts as the key to the Lavish Lair vault and will give you auto-regenerative shields throughout the rest of the match just like the others. While Oscar regenerates his shields you can heal up quickly, grab some more ammo, or defeat any left over henchmen. Once Oscar is defeated you can take his medallion and her Mythic Frenzy Auto Shotgun. The medallion will take you down to the vault beneath the lair. There you will find weapon cases, high rarity weapons, and a weapon bench to mod your existing weapons.

yacht vault

This vault is found to the west of the map aboard a big yacht. No boss resides at the smaller vaults. The only way in to these is by finding a keycard.

The key card is held by one of the henchmen wandering around the place. Defeat every one you see to find one who will drop the keycard. Once you have the card it will show you the way to the vault and you can open chests, grab loot, and heal up if you need to.

Marina Vault

ritzy riviera vault

The marina vault can be found at Ritzy Riviera. There is no big boss but you will have to defeat the henchmen working here.

Scout the area for henchmen and take out ay you see. Eventually one will drop a key card and you can find your way to the vault. These vaults don’t hold much more than a few chests but are still worth getting into if you want some higher rarity weapons.

Comms Vault

classy courts

The comms vault can be to the north east of Classy Courts and is accessible using a keycard. The keycards are held by a random henchman patrolling the area.

Check out the entire area to find the henchman with the keycard. He will drop it once he is defeated. Inside the vault is gold, chests and healing items. Usually there is only one henchman guarding this building so it isn’t too tough getting into the vault.

Train Vault

train vault fortnite

The Fortnite train vault is found at the station south of Lavish Lair. Kill the guard situated here and grab his keycard to get into the vault.

There are usually a couple of guards here so take out both of them to get the keycard. Once you have entered the vault and take the loot you need then you can jump aboard the train as it passes.

Mountain Vault

yacht keycard fortnite

The mountain keycard gets you into the vault at Hazy Hillside and you can get this keycard from one of the guards in the area.

This vault contains much of the same as the others including chests, gold and other items. There is no mod bench or weapon cases so these are pretty easy vaults to get into.

Mansion Vault

mansion vault

The mansion vault is found at mansion on the southern coast. Defeat the henchmen and grab the keycard to get into the vault.

The vault is found at the basement of the mansion and contains both regular and rare chests, healing items, and gold. There is also a small boat nearby with a launchpad to help you get back to the mainland quickly.

That’s all you need to know about the vaults in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 . For more help and tips, including how to find Bounty Boards , check out some guides below.

Here's how the Fortnite vault keycards work

Fortnite keys - How to find and use Vault Keys

Published: Sep 19, 2022, 4:00 Updated: Oct 26, 2023, 3:56

If you're looking for the Fortnite vault keycards and how they work , this is everything you need to know. Being a more recent addition to the game, there's quite a lot to figure out when it comes to Fortnite vaults. Let's go over how to find the vault keycards and where to find the vaults.

There are a total of seven to find and they need keycards instead of the vault keys in the past. Though you should never rely on cracking one open to win a match, getting lucky enough to bust them open will give you the guns and gear you'll need to stand a fighting chance at a victory royale.

If you want some more information on the game, check out what we know about the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 battle pass . As well as this, check out the rarest Fortnite skins , and how to refund items in Fortnite .

How to get a Fortnite vault keycard

Vaults have come back in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 and there are seven of them scattered across the island. To open them, instead of keys, you will need to defeat a very difficult boss with a huge health bar that defends the vaults.

Screenshot from Fortnite showing a vault.

You will have to face the boss Highcard who holds a vault keycard that can open the vault. They are located at each of the vault locations, but they will only spawn in the middle of the game.

The best way to make these bosses appear is to defeat all enemies in the location, prepare your best gear and weapons, and wait.

In a few moments, the Highcard and his two henchmen will appear, so defeat them to loot the vault keycard.

How to use vault keycards

There are a total of seven vault locations on the whole island and we all know where to find them. Check out the island map in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 with its changes and such.

The Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 4 map

Here are the vault locations:

Only the Loot Island Vault needs two keycards and it will only spawn randomly in a game. The rest of the vault locations are fixed and have a boss that needs to be defeated to drop the vault keycard.

To open the vault, just stand in front of the computer by the vault and interact with it. After successfully interacting with the computer, the doors will open.

Only Loot Island has keys used to open the vault.

Fortnite Season 2's Top Secret update makes 5 huge changes to the map

Phonebooth, phonebooths everywhere!

yacht keycard fortnite

On Thursday, Fortnite Season 2, Chapter 2 launched around the world, bringing Deadpool to the game (kind of), starting a new Battle Pass , and altering the map immensely. For all those Battle Royale Magellans out there, exploring the new map might seem daunting, but it’s infinitely more doable with some explanation.

For example, what’s up with those new NPC attackers? What's the deal with all of those eye-catching new locations? Here's everything you need to know about all the changes that come with the launch of Top Secret.

Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 2’s Top Secret theme and factions, explained

Fornite Chapter 2, Season 2 focuses on spies and secret agents, particularly the campy ones who use gadgets and wits to get the job done. To facilitate this theme, two covert-ops factions – Ghost and Shadow – have taken over the island, setting up outposts throughout the map along with new goodies. Replacing the stealthy bush, players can now use a cardboard box for their sneaking needs.

There are five new points of interest: The Yacht, The Agency, The Rig, The Shark , and The Grotto.

yacht keycard fortnite

Fortnite's brand new map

Infiltrating them isn’t easy: they’re filled with enemy NPCs that will kill you without the proper equipment. Said “equipment” is a disguise that can be found within red phonebooths littered on the new island.

By entering said phonebooth, you’ll transform into one of the NPC's allies, you’ll just be “one of the boys.” Maybe they’ll offer you a beer . If they don’t, try a different outpost. Defeat the location's boss to obtain Keycard access to exclusive chests found within the outpost.

What is Fortnite’s Yacht, and where is it located?

Found in the Northeastern corner of the new map, the Yacht is a new ship run by the Ghost faction. By entering, you’ll be able to snag The Ghost keycard and Ghost skin , allowing access to the various Ghost locales throughout the map. (Be wary of the turrets throughout the boat if you don’t have the right skin on.)

Given Epic’s well-documented love for dynamic maps, it’s wholly possible the boat will shift locations throughout Season 2.

What is Fortnite’s Rig, and where is it located?

While the Yacht occupies the northeastern corner of the map, the Rig is at the opposite end, on the southeastern side. There are tons of henchmen bots here, but it’s not currently occupied by Ghost or Shadow forces.

Defeat the boss here, and you'll snag a keycard exclusively for the Rig.

yacht keycard fortnite

Phone Booth on the Rig

What is Fortnite’s Agency, and where is it located??

Cropping up in the new map’s core, this is going to be a hot spot . this is where all the secret agents congregated in the cinematic trailer . It’s currently occupied by the Shadow , granting a Keycard for the group. From what we currently know, through some exploration, you can find a vault in this outpost, providing oodles of loot to take back with you into battle. However, watch out for the big boss and henchmen patrolling the area.

What is Fortnite’s Shark, and where is it located?

A “secret” base located on the map’s northwest side. Ut’s a cave that literally looks like a shark, so it's hard to miss. This location is truly as conspicuous as you can get without screaming “Secret Base.”

Forage through the area to find the Shark Keycard . In addition to the cave, there’s also a swanky beach house to explore.

What is Fortnite’s Grotto, and where is it located?

On the map’s east side, you’ll find an underground base called the Grotto. Tread carefully, because this one requires you to glide in . I’d suggest you head in right as the match starts. Within it, you’ll be met with turrets, henchmen, and the like.

If you’re above all the drama, head to the phonebooth inside to go incognito. You’ll also gain access to the Grotto keycard here. Before you leave, make sure to check out The Grotto’s exclusive vault, home to a massive weapons cache .

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 is out now.

Fortnite Characters locations in Season 3 of Chapter 5

Find Characters and hire Specialists from the Fortnite NPCs in Season 3 of Chapter 5

Peabody, one of the Fortnite Characters in Season 3 of Chapter 5

The line up of Fortnite characters has received some more names via the v30.20 update, with four new faces to meet. They are Drakon Steel Rider and the returning Dummy , who can be found alongside the queen of the Underworld Persephone and Brotherhood of Mutants leader Wastelander Magneto . This means there are now almost two dozen Fortnite NPCs to find, and apart from the strangely barren area around Reckless Railways you're like to encounter one in most areas now. Interact with any of these characters and they'll provide you with useful items and hard-to-find weapons, as well as offering other services that will give you a competitive edge over your rivals, so it's always good to locate them and take advantage of their wares when you're passing by.

Watch out for the Scout, Heavy, Supply, and Medic Specialists who are denoted by a specific icon and can be hired during matches, as they each offer a unique set of skills and can be issued with Fortnite commands to deploy them strategically, gaining you a tactical advantage. Scouts can mark targets and snipe them from distance, Heavies are immune to fire and throw explosives, Supplies keep you topped up with ammo, while Medics provide healing and even revival where possible. It's likely that future quests will require particular characters to complete them, so it pays to know their locations in advance to quickly track down and meet them when it counts.

Fortnite Accolades Fortnite Medallions Fortnite Oasis Pools Fortnite Ride the Lightning Fortnite Wastelander Challenges

Although characters are no longer responsible for handing out Fortnite quests , it still pays to know their locations as they'll give you useful items for free when you meet, as well as selling services such as healing your injuries, or fighting alongside you as your personal bodyguard. If you want to benefit from their abilities, then you'll need to know where to find these 23 different NPCs.

Fortnite characters accept payment in the form of Fortnite gold bars , which you can spend with them on weapons, items, and useful services. Because the world of Fortnite is so large you might not stumble upon them by accident, so follow my guide to all of the Fortnite characters locations and you'll be meeting up with these elusive NPCs in no time.

Fortnite Characters map for Season 3 of Chapter 5

There are currently 23 official Fortnite characters, and you can keep track of the ones you've met so far by visiting the Characters tab on the Quests screen in-game – which is also accessible through the Collections option at the top of the Quests tab in the lobby. They currently only spawn in one specific location each, which makes them easier to find, so I've marked all of the Fortnite characters locations I've encountered on the map. Bear in mind that if another player has hired or eliminated them, that will remove the character from their location.

You'll know when you're close to one as you'll see a speech bubble icon on your map, as well as on your screen above their head which you can see through walls – this is replaced with a specific Hire icon for characters you can recruit to fight by your side. Interact with them and the first time you meet you'll add them to your Collection, with a confirmation appearing on screen. This list shows where all of the Fortnite characters can be discovered:

  • 1) Artemis - Mount Olympus
  • 2) Backbone - Rebel's Roost
