Apparently it’s just a prop, can’t be used

I bought my yacht by purchasing it through Nook Shopping for 260,000 bells. Just bought it today but I’m wondering if i can actually step onto the yacht and sail. Anyone else have one that they have sailed?

All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

The latest — and final — update adds some wheeled flair to the game..

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

Animal Crossing: New Horizons , the Switch game that stole our hearts at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, sent out its final free update for the game on Nov. 4, 2021, and it includes a few things you’ve never been able to acquire before in the franchise: vehicles.

Suggested Reading

Transportation items have been part of the Animal Crossing franchise since its start. Since the first game, your character begins their journey on a train (a 2-4-0 steam locomotive at first, which evolves to a self-propelled diesel railcar in later editions), where you strike up a conversation with a cat named Rover who allows you to pick your name and destination. The train is accessible throughout the game; you can hop on it to ride to other places.

Related Content

In Animal Crossing: Wild World , instead of arriving on a train, you arrive via taxi, which will drop you off at the main plaza and never again appear. In City Folk , you’re dropped off in a bus, and you can later ride that bus to get to The City. In New Horizons , you can take a water plane to other islands to steal their resources.

But in terms of things we’d recognize as cars? They’re just not there. One character, the traveling fashionista giraffe named Gracie, initially started off as the only character with a vehicle. She’d roll into town in her convertible cabriolet, or her soft-top depending on the game, and you’d either wash her car for a prize, or she’d judge you on your fashion sense. New Leaf introduced the RV and Pocket Camp the camper.

To put it plainly, though, there has never been room for these vehicles in the game. Towns exist as isolated oases with their own self-contained economy, and the only transportation you use gets you from your town to a different area of the game or to another player’s island. Most of the time, the closest your character would get to owning a car was having a race car bed.

New Horizons has broken the mold in a lot of ways, though, so the fact that it provides vehicle options in this new update isn’t completely surprising — especially since they don’t look to be much more than décor. I haven’t personally stumbled across one in the game yet since the new update has only been available since Nov. 4, but they merely appear to be pieces of customizable furniture that you can use to decorate your home or your town. I’ve done some data mining to nab the photos, so the official names in the game could be different.

I never quite expected cars to be an option in my favorite game franchise in the world, though. And that is why I’m bringing you this blog.

13. Fair Train

The fair train, while beautiful, appears to be nothing more than a decoration or a ride at a carnival. It looks like it’s sitting on a platform that is not a rail, which means it’s a stationary train. I am aware that none of the vehicles on this list are actually maneuverable, but there’s nothing stopping me from imagining cruising around in my little expensive sedan. The fair train has a platform. It ranks last because of this.

12. Skateboard

Skateboards have existed in various forms in Animal Crossing for ages. Skateboards are fine. The ones in this game are fine. You can get either a board or a rack of skateboards that hang on the wall. But it is nothing new or exciting, and therefore it gets a low spot on the list.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

11. Bicycle

A mountain bike already exists in New Horizons, but this cute bicycle has a retro look with a little metal basket on the front. It’s good, but it’s nothing revolutionary. I will craft one in pink.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

10. Excavator

Now here’s where we start to dive into the good stuff. An excavator? Holy shit. I don’t exactly ever plan on using one for anything other than placing it next to an in-progress worksite for the few hours I play before the day changes over and my building is completed, so it’s not going to get a very high ranking, but it is a whole ass piece of construction equipment. I dig it.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

9. Delivery Truck

Finally, I can pretend to ship my local goods out to spartan island nations in exchange for other local goods and services. A colonist’s dream. The delivery truck gets ninth.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

I recently read Restoration Agriculture by Mark Shepard, which basically avers that widespread crop cultivation is killing our planet and that we should be creating perma-culture cropping systems that provide more nutrients per acre than, say, an acre of a monocrop like corn. I’m very into the idea and can’t wait to implement something similar at my own home. Tractors now make me cringe, even when they’re virtual. This tractor is cute in blue, though, so I give it an eight.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

7. Steam Roller

The steam roller receives the same criticisms as the excavator, but because it is by nature a steam roller, I have the added flexibility of placing it next to things and pretending I am running them over. For that, it earns a respectable seventh place.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

The Animal Crossing universe is the only space I frequently inhabit in which I am a rich and annoying benefactor to everyone around me. I live a life of gluttonous excess and both destroy and perfect my island in turns. I shower my favorite villagers in gifts and spend one million bells on that stupid-expensive crown again just because I can. This is the life I lead, and it is a perfect fit for this rich bitch yacht.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

5. Shopping Cart

“But a shopping cart isn’t a form of transportation,” I hear you cry. “It’s not a vehicle!” I direct you to the documentary Carts of Darkness and ask you to expand your horizons.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

4. Expensive Car

The expensive car is some Mercedes-ass looking shit. It’s fancy. It looks like something a terrible and rich old hag would drive. It looks like something my husband would drive. I hate it. It’s great. I want to build one in gold.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

3. Covered Wagon

Never content to merely represent the modern age, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has provided us with a beautiful covered wagon for those among us who like to keep our islands machine-free. Try not to think too hard about the implications of placing a covered wagon on an island that features horse villagers.

Image for article titled All The Vehicles You Can Get In The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update, Ranked

This little scooter is honestly the only form of transportation that I’d actually want to cruise around in because it is cute and harmless in the same way that all of Animal Crossing is cute and harmless. I would drive it on the beach and up a mountain and from Tom Nook’s nephews’ store to Hornsby’s house to deliver a gift. It’s great. I love it.

1. Compact Car

The compact car in Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the first vehicle I saw on the list of new items, and it made me gasp out loud because of how much I loved it. It comes with tons of different customizable options, and I truly cannot wait to put together my gorgeous pink compact machine to park outside of my gorgeous pink Animal Crossing home.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) Guides

Kapp’n boat tours & new mystery islands.

yacht animal crossing

Kapp’n is a green turtle you can find offering special boat tours to islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! Learn where to find him, how to take a boat tour, and the islands you can visit in this guide.

Newly introduced in the massive Version 2.0 Update released on November 3rd , you’ll need to have your copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons fully updated to experience Kapp’n and his boat tours.

What Are Kapp’n Boat Tours In Animal Crossing?

Kapp’n Boat Tours offer a new way to discover unique and mysterious islands from faraway in Animal Crossing: New Horizons — different from the mystery islands that Dodo Airline have been able to take you to since launch!

yacht animal crossing

These brand new mysterious islands will often offer new special items that can’t be found on your own home island, like new types of flora such as vines and bushes. We suspect there might even be new types of fruits too, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Additionally, Kapp’n can take you to islands that of a different season or weather than your home island. For example, when your date is set to July in the Northern Hemisphere, you might visit an island that’s in Winter allowing you to catch different fish or bugs!

yacht animal crossing

In fact, these out-of-season islands can even feature special seasonal materials like Snowflakes , or items from a different time of day like wishing for Star Fragments.

How To Take Kapp’n Boat Tours & Visit Islands

You can take a boat tour with Kapp’n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by visiting your island’s Pier in the bottom left or bottom right of the map, depending on the layout.

yacht animal crossing

Simply walk up to Kapp’n on the Pier and he’ll ask for you for a small fee of 1,000 Nook Miles currency per round-trip to a mysterious island! You don’t need to purchase Nook Miles Tickets for Kapp’n.

Note that you can unfortunately only set sail with Kapp’n for a mystery island once per in-game day . Of course, impatient players can time travel to get ahead if they desire.

Kapp’n Island Materials

While exploring the Mystery Islands that Kapp’n takes you to in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you may discover some new materials and plants you haven’t seen anywhere else! That’s because some very exciting new items have been introduced on Kapp’n Boat Tour Islands.

An extremely useful new type of item, Vines can be found on Kapp’n Islands and can be placed on your island’s cliffs to climb up them — essentially as a makeshift ladder that looks much cooler!

Additionally, there are many new DIY Recipes in Version 2.0 that require Vines as a crafting material to create items — check out every new recipe here .

Glowing Moss

Perfect for night-time decoration, Glowing Moss is a new type of plant that can be found on Kapp’n Islands somewhat similar to weeds and flowers. Unlike other plants though, the Glowing Moss features a subtle glow during the evening making for a great night-time effect!

Just like with Vines, there new DIY Recipes in Version 2.0 that require Glowing Moss as a crafting material to create items — check out every new recipe here .

Plumeria Bushes

A new type of bush called Plumeria can be found on Kapp’n Islands in two different Pink and White color options! In the Northern Hemisphere, they bloom in season from June 1st to September 20th. Learn more about Bushes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons here.

Kapp’n Boat Tour Islands

There are many different mysterious islands you can visit by taking a Kapp’n Boat Tour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0! We’re beginning to research all of them and will list them below as we do.

While the exact contents of each island can vary, we’ve generally found that a Gyroid Fragment is buried in the ground every time.

Vine & Glowing Moss Island

yacht animal crossing

On this special island seen during the Animal Crossing Direct, many brand new materials can be collected including Vines, Glowing Moss, and Plumeria Bushes.

Bell Trees Island

On this unique island, you can find multiple Money Trees containing bags of 1,000 Bells each on them. Simply shake the trees to get your free Bells!

Vegetable Farm Islands

yacht animal crossing

There are multiple different islands that can be discovered with abandoned farms on them. As part of these farms, you can find all of the of the new vegetable crops in Version 2.0 including Carrots, Wheat, Sugarcane, Tomatoes, Potatoes, and Pumpkins.

Star Fragment Island

On this dazzling island, beautiful shooting stars will race across the sky! Star Fragments can be found all over the land including on the beach and even inside of Rocks if you smash them with a shovel. Be sure to check the beach for an appropriate DIY Crafting recipe in a message bottle too!

Seasonal Islands

There are multiple different islands covering each major season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! On these islands, you can find both the exclusive seasonal materials and crafting recipes of seasons including Spring Cherry Blossoms, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and more.

If the player has not been to a Gyroid, Produce, or Glowing Moss-type island within the last 7 boat tours and none of the other island types are chosen for that day, the island visited will be of one of those four types that has not been visited. If there are multiple, the type visited the longest time ago is selected.

Certain islands exist in a different season or time of day from the game clock. This can be taken advantage of to catch out-of-season fish , insects , and sea creatures . However, these islands cannot be visited if the specific player has not personally experienced that season at least once before. Time continues to pass while on these islands, which can be observed if the player spends several hours on one.

Probability [ edit ]

The game first determines if the player will visit a normal island (78%) or a rare island (22%). If the player has received a fortune for improved belongings luck that day, this is always guaranteed to be a rare island. [1] Otherwise, the game will calculate this as follows:

  • If a normal island is chosen, the game will select a normal island type from the ones that have not been visited in the longest time within the last 7 days. The counter for not visiting a particular island can increase to a maximum of 20 days.
  • If a specific player has not yet personally experienced the date on their own island that the selected island currently experiences, the game will instead select a normal island. This is always guaranteed to be the vine/glowing moss island if the player has received a fortune for improved belongings luck that day.

Common factors [ edit ]

All islands contain a single buried gyroid fragment .

Flowers will always be in-season according to the date experienced on the island, but will never be the player's native or sister flowers. The bushes present on the island are always the current bushes in bloom as determined by the game's time.

Bug and fish spawns will always match the date that the island is experiencing (either fixed or real in-game time).

For normal islands, there is a 29.4% chance of one of the rocks being a money rock , and a 2% chance of all rocks being money rocks. Rare islands will always have at least one money rock present.

Types of islands [ edit ]

Normal islands [ edit ].

Normal islands all have multiple possible layouts, one of which will be chosen at random when the player visits an island type.

Gyroid islands [ edit ]

These islands are encountered most frequently between all island types. This type of island is always guaranteed to be visited upon the player's first boat tour, when searching for Brewster, and whenever the player has received a bad belongings fortune from Katrina (and has not opted for purification). In this latter scenario, the buried gyroid fragment will always be replaced with clay .

There is an 8% chance that the player may encounter the same island but with precipitation (either rain or snow depending on the time of year). In addition to the usual buried gyroid fragment, there will be one fully-formed gyroid buried as well. This can be any gyroid except for a brewstoid .

These islands contain multiple plants of one random type of produce , with each plant containing a fixed amount of harvestable goods. The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random cooking recipe. If the player has not purchased Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ however, the message bottle will instead contain furniture DIY recipes.

Northern Hemisphere

These islands contain vines and glowing moss . The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random vine or glowing moss recipe. Although the island's date is set to summer, this only affects the appearance; the fish, insects and sea creatures that spawn will be the same as the date on the player's home island. Since version 2.0.4 , sand paths will now appear around each coconut tree .

If the player has received a good belongings fortune from Katrina , the player will be sent to this island if the rare island the game rolls to has a date that the player has not experienced yet in-game.

Boat Tour Island (Vine) NH Map 1.png

Rare islands [ edit ]

Rare islands all have a single fixed layout for each island type.

Star Fragment [ edit ]

Boat Tour Island (Star Fragment) NH Map.png

Chance: 3.14%

Internal ID StarPiece

This island is always set to midnight when the player arrives, with a heavy meteor shower taking place. If the player wishes upon the shooting stars, star fragments will appear on their own island's beaches the following day. The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random star fragment recipe . The creatures that spawn are based on the current time, not the apparent night of the island. Vines also appear on this island.

The meteor shower on this island is heavier than what the player can ever experience on their own island, with an 80% chance of a shooting star appearing on any given minute instead of the usual 50%. There is then an equal chance for 5 stars or 8 stars to appear within that single minute.

There are some stars on the beach too, but they will be mostly star fragments .

The island can only be visited if the player has played the game on June 15 in the northern hemisphere, or December 15 in the southern hemisphere.

Rocks on this island will always drop only star fragments with the following distribution:

This island is always experiencing the spring Cherry Blossom season , with all hardwood trees taking on soft pink petals and cherry-blossom petals floating in the air that can be caught with a net . Mushroom [ edit ]

A random assortment of six mushrooms (composed of two flat mushrooms , round mushrooms , and skinny mushrooms ) can be found, as well as pine cones and acorns .

In order, each of the 15 trees will be randomly assigned an item underneath:

  • Three trees will have a tree branch .
  • Five trees will have a random mushroom.
  • Up to five hardwood trees (or less if there are less than five hardwood trees) will have an acorn.
  • Up to five cedar trees (or less if there are less than five cedar trees) will have a pine cone.

How to go on boat tours - Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Take a boat tour with Kapp'n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so you can find some new resources.

Sam Chandler

Animal Crossing: New Horizons now lets players go on boat tours. These tours, captained by a new critter called Kapp’n, are similar to the Dodo Airline experience. They allow you to visit new islands where you can find resources, bugs, fish, and even ingredients and other valuable items. For players that are wondering how to go on a boat tour, we’ve got you covered.

Go on a boat tour

Going on a boat tour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a relaxing and useful experience. Before you can set off with Kapp’n for a faraway island, you must first ensure Animal Crossing: New Horizons is updated to at least Version 2.0.0. Once your console is up to date, you should log in and enter your island.

find kappn boat tour animal crossing new horizons

You can find Kapp’n in his little boat by your pier. Note that this is not the dock you use to get to Dodo Airlines – your pier will be on your island somewhere else. If you’re having trouble locating it, press ZL to open your NookPhone and then open your map app. Look for the tiny brown line – that’s your pier.

Go down to your pier and then speak with Kapp’n who should be sitting in his boat. It costs 1,000 Nook Miles to travel to a random, uncharted island, so make sure you’re continually getting more Nook Miles so you can visit as many as you want.

The bout tours that Kapp’n can take you on are a great way to discover new ingredients, which are needed in cooking and making meals . The boat tour is also how you will find Brewster so you can unlock the Roost .

Going on boat tours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great way to gather more resources. It might be a bit more expensive than a Dodo Airlines flight, but it’s a quicker process (plus, you get to hear Kapp’n sing). Stop by our Animal Crossing: New Horizons Guide for a wealth of helpful information.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons guide - Jolly Redd’s art, real or fake?

Figure out which art pieces are real and which are forgeries

An Animal Crossing character stands on Redd’s boat

Jolly Redd has returned to Animal Crossing: New Horizons , bringing furniture and art with him.

Redd will have four different art pieces in on his boat (as well as two pieces of regular furniture). As in past games, Redd will sell genuine artworks (that can be donated to the Museum) and forgeries (which can’t be donated). Below we’ll go over how to spot a fake.

You can only buy one of the four art pieces displayed, so choose wisely. Based on our experiences, it’s possible for all four of the art pieces to be fake. It’s also possible for Redd to be selling more than one real piece of art. From counting the name plates in the museum, there are 43 art pieces to find and donate.

Once you buy it from Redd, the art will get mailed to you the next day.

Complete List of Paintings

Serene painting, warm painting, wistful painting, academic painting, graceful painting, calm painting, flowery painting, jolly painting, moody painting, famous painting, scary painting, dynamic painting, scenic painting, moving painting, amazing painting, quaint painting, solemn painting, basic painting, worthy painting, glowing painting, common painting, sinking painting, nice painting, proper painting, mysterious painting, twinkling painting, perfect painting, wild painting left half, wild painting right half, detailed painting, complete list of statues, warrior statue, motherly statue, beautiful statue, familiar statue, robust statue, gallant statue, informative statue, rock-head statue, ancient statue, tremendous statue, valiant statue, mystic statue, great statue, where do i find redd.

You’ll need to talk to Blathers and have him mention the idea of allowing art before Redd will show up. According to a data mine by Ninji , this will happen once you submit at least 60 donations to the museum (fish, bugs, or fossils). The day after Blathers talks about art, Isabelle will warn you of shady art dealers during her morning announcements. You’ll then be able to find Redd roaming your island.

Jolly Redd tries to rip off an Animal Crossing character

Upon talking to him, he’ll offer you a random painting for a for a whopping 498,000 Bells. After declining, he’ll give you a “discount” to 4,980 Bells. This art piece will be genuine.

Donate the first piece of art to Blathers, and he’ll talk about opening an art exhibit. The next day, the museum will be closed for renovations. Another day later, the museum will open with an art exhibit and Redd will start appearing on your island on random days.

Redd shows up on a boat at your island’s tiny beach in the north of your island. The beach is all the way on the back of your island, and if you haven’t terraformed back there, you’ll likely need a ladder to reach it.

Redd’s boat will appear on random days, similar to other island merchants like Kicks and Flick. We’re unsure if Redd’s boat has any unlocking prerequisites (such as needing the Resident Services tent to upgrade to a building before he’ll show up, or needing to donate a certain amount to the Museum).

Redd can also be added as a merchant in Harv’s Island Plaza for 100,000 Bells. When he appears here, he’ll have two random pieces of art, which can both either be fake or real. On Harv’s island, you can still only buy one piece a day. Based on our testing, once you buy one of the pieces, the piece you bought will be replaced with a new, random piece of art the next day. If you never buy either of the two pieces on display from Redd, then the stock will refresh on Monday.

What do I do with the art?

The art can be donated to the Museum, provided that it’s genuine. It can also be used as a normal furniture item to be displayed in your home. If it’s a statue, it can also be placed anywhere on the island.

If you buy a fake, not even Timmy and Tommy will want to buy it. You’ll have to dispose of it using a Trash Can furnishing item if you don’t want it anymore. Or you can just display it and fool your uncultured friends.

How to tell which of Redd’s artworks are real and which are fake

All of Redd’s artworks are based off of real world paintings and sculptures. But the tricky fox may try to sell you a forgery that looks very similar to the genuine article. Each fake will have a visible difference from the real version.

Redd has really stepped up his game this time around and his art is pretty hard to differentiate from the real versions. Keep in mind that the differences between the real and fakes are not the same as they were in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and are much harder to spot.

In the list below, we’ll include descriptions of how you can tell the difference between a real piece of art and a forgery. We’ll keep updating as we find more.

Update (Apr. 23): While we used the painting textures from the game to list the paintings below, it appears that there have been reports of multiple types of fake paintings that were not in the textures we used. That being said, make sure to inspect the paintings carefully and compare them to the real paintings below before you make any purchases. We will continue investigating and update this guide as we find more information.

Where to Find Kapp’n’s Boat Tours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Image of Morgan Shaver

Update 2.0 has added a wealth of new content to Animal Crossing: New Horizons , including Kapp’n’s Boat Tours. That’s right, you no longer have to rely solely on Dodo Airlines to explore other islands!

Confused on where to find Kapp’n’s Boat Tours, how to take a boat tour, or why you should? Read on for everything you need to know about Kapp’n’s Boat Tours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

Where to Find Kapp’n’s Boat Tours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

yacht animal crossing

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kapp’n’s Boat Tours are a new feature that lets you explore other islands for resources. Notably, you can find buried Gyroid Fragments on the islands you visit through Kapp’n’s Boat Tours!

To start, Kapp’n’s Boat Tours can be found on your island’s previously unoccupied pier. You might’ve dived from this pier during the summer to search for sea creatures. If you’re having a hard time finding it, you can actually spot this pier from your island’s map (as seen in the image below).

yacht animal crossing

Once you find your pier, you’ll find Kapp’n chilling in his boat. Approach him and talk to him to learn about Kapp’n’s Boat Tours. After that, talk to him again and give him 1,000 Nook Miles to go on a boat tour.

Every boat tour will cost you 1,000 Nook Miles, so be sure to get your money’s worth while you’re exploring the random island Kapp’n takes you to! As for why you’d want to spend 1,000 Nook Miles on this, Kapp’n’s Boat Tours are essential when it comes to getting Brewster to your island.

After talking to Blathers about Brewster, your next step is taking one of Kapp’n’s Boat Tours. In our previous guide on how to get Brewster , we explain:

“Once you’re on the island look around and you’ll find Brewster, an owl in a safari cap, and a killer mustache. Talk to Brewster who will then give you a Gyroid Fragment and teach you how to plant and water Gyroids.”

yacht animal crossing

So, as you can see, Kapp’n’s Boat Tours are essential when it comes to unlocking Brewster, and for getting Gyroids in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

To recap, Kapp’n’s Boat Tours can be accessed from your island’s pier. It costs 1,000 Nook Miles to take one of Kapp’n’s Boat Tours. On the islands Kapp’n takes you to, you can find Brewster and Gyroid Fragments (among other things) in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

We hope this guide has helped!

The New Animal Crossing Game Rumors Explained

  • Rumors suggest a 2026 debut for the next Animal Crossing with exciting new features like a city, vehicles, and intricate multiplayer options.
  • The possibility of a giant shopping mall and a revamped multiplayer experience could potentially revolutionize the beloved game series, but these rumors should be taken lightly until an official confirmation is shared.

Nearly four years after the last Animal Crossing game, the community is eagerly awaiting news of a new installment. Though Nintendo has yet to confirm if another title is in development, after the runaway success of New Horizons, it seems likely. After all, the silence from Nintendo could be a strategic move towards building anticipation for a future announcement.

Interestingly, given the franchise's usual release schedule for mainline titles, it appears that such an announcement could be right around the corner. Typically, Nintendo introduces a fresh Animal Crossing game every three to four years. Notably, New Leaf and New Horizons were a staggering eight years apart with only apps and spin-offs such as Pocket Camp and Happy Home Designer released between.

The Next Animal Crossing Game Could Benefit From Untethering Milestones From Nook Miles

A new animal crossing could debut in 2026, the next animal crossing could be slated for a next-gen debut.

On March 13, 2024, rumors surfaced online claiming a new Animal Crossing game is developing . The source, Twitter user "NWeedle," is suggesting a 2026 release, which would mean the game is targeted to come out six years after New Horizons . Of course, Nintendo could be purposefully delaying the game into 2026 to release it on its rumored next-gen console, nicknamed the "Switch 2." According to the claims, the next game will feature the following:

  • A city complete with skyscrapers
  • Drivable vehicles
  • Adventure missions (including puzzles and mini-games)
  • More intensive multiplayer support

While mini-games aren't a new concept in the Animal Crossing universe, the more intensive puzzles introduced in New Leaf were enjoyable. As a result, similarly challenging mini-games in a future installment would be exciting. NWeedle has hinted that this will include cake throwing, vehicle races, birthday celebrations, and a game called "Mouse Hunt."

The Next Animal Crossing Could Have a Giant Shopping Mall

Theories surrounding the next Animal Crossing game are only continuing to grow, with whispers suggesting a brand-new monetary system. This could involve the introduction of a massive shopping center, potentially reminiscent of the bustling Main Street in New Leaf or The City found in both New Leaf and City Folk . Speculation points towards players owning and operating their own shops within the shopping center, similar to Nook's Cranny, which is managed by Timmy and Tommy in New Horizons.

A more robust multiplayer experience in Animal Crossing has always been a thrilling premise. The rumored shopping center, if implemented, could revolutionize how players interact with each other via vibrant shopping sprees while visiting friends' towns and fostering deeper connections. The Twitter rumors have even hinted at the possibility of purchasing vehicles within the center, which, if true, could significantly alter how players travel around their city.

Unfortunately, while the source credited for these theories has a decent following on Twitter, they lack a track record of reliable leaks. Additionally, the source's post being in Spanish raises the possibility of mistranslation, which can lead to incorrect details being shared. However, given that New Horizons was announced two years before its launch, there's a possibility that Nintendo will unveil news about a new game in the near future.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth major game in the Animal Crossing series. This slice-of-life simulation game tasks the player with developing an abandoned island into a small town for its resident villagers. The game was released at the start of worldwide lockdowns amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which catapulted it into massive success. It's currently the best selling game of all time in Japan.

Animal Crossing: Everything New in July 2023 (Bugs, Fish, Seasonal Items)

10 animal crossing items you still didn't know you can interact with, animal crossing players are only just discovering rare gold item from 2.0 update, quick links, new bugs (& where to find them), new fish (& where to find them), new deep-sea creatures, july events and seasonal items.

Players should prepare for a much more laidback month in Animal Crossing New Horizons this July. Some months are defined by significant seasonal events and diverse rotations of new bugs, fish, and deep-sea creatures, but July is arguably one of the quietest months of the year in Animal Crossing. However, several rare and highly sought-after critters are returning to island this month, alongside some relaxing weekend events.

After a similarly lazy and laidback June in ACNH for players in both hemispheres, July offers a particularly sharp contrast. New critters are abundant in the Northern Hemisphere, but players in the Southern Hemisphere won't find any new critters to catch. Additionally, of the two-weekend events this July, only one is actually scheduled to run in the Southern Hemisphere.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can expect a lazy summer and winter in July 2023, with small weekend events and some new critters to catch.

July is a great month for catching rare beetles. Players will need to check the trees on their islands at all times of day for cicadas and stag beetles, as well as more ordinary bugs such as the humble grasshopper.

As always, bugs can be donated to Blathers at the Museum, who will reluctantly accept them despite his phobia of insects. Alternatively, they can be put on display as decorations or sold. Rare beetles such as the Scarab and Horned Hercules sell for thousands of Bells, so this is a great way to make Bells fast.

Players should also watch for the Walking Leaf, one of the most unique bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons . As their name suggests, walking leaves look almost identical to furniture leaves and can usually be found on the ground. However, they will flip themselves over and reveal their true nature if approached. The easiest way to catch one is to pick up all discarded furniture items. A clutter-free island will make walking leaves easier to spot.

No new bugs can be found in the Southern Hemisphere in July.

Three of the biggest and rarest fish also return to the Northern Hemisphere in July: the Blue Marlin, Napoleonfish, and Ocean Sunfish. With the many giant fish that returned in June, July is arguably one of the best months for players aiming to fill their Museum's fish tanks with rare aquatic animals. Much like rare bugs, rare fish also have great sell values.

A good way to earn Bells is to catch and sell Sweetfish. The Sweetfish sells for 900 Bells despite being a relatively common catch.

No new fish can be found in the Southern Hemisphere in July.

Diving was added to Animal Crossing New Horizons in a post-launch update. Players can purchase a wetsuit (and potentially a matching snorkel), swim in the sea around their island, and dive to catch deep-sea creatures. Deep-sea creatures typically make their presence known by telltale columns of bubbles and underwater shadows.

Rare deep-sea creatures like the giant isopod move extremely fast, making them hard to catch. The best tactic is moving the joystick slowly while the player character is above water, so they swim slowly towards any nearby bubbles. Once directly over a deep-sea creature, players can dive and catch the critter without chasing it.

No new deep-sea creatures can be caught in the Southern Hemisphere in July.

All Limited Timed Events

No significant events are scheduled for July; however, players can participate in two smaller weekend events. The Fishing Tourney returns on Saturday, July 13th, hosted by C.J. During the Fishing Tourney, players can participate in Fishing Tournaments by catching as many fish as they can in three minutes.

Each fish caught grants a single point, and by earning enough points, players can purchase special fishing-themed items from C.J. The first tournament is free to enter, but subsequent tournaments have an entry fee of 500 Bells.

To maximize points from the Fishing Tourney , it's highly recommended that players dig up Manila Clams and craft several packets of Bait before entering a tournament. Bait can be dropped in any body of water to spawn a fish instantly.

Apart from exchanging points for items, players can receive bronze, silver, and gold fishing tourney trophies from C.J. by earning 100, 200, and 300 points, respectively. These trophies will arrive in the mailbox the day after the Fishing Tourney. Finally, any fish caught can also be sold to C.J. at 150% of their average sell value , so players can take advantage of the Fishing Tourney to earn Bells by selling their rare fish.

Flick will also run a Bug-Off event on Saturday, July 27th. The Bug-Off event runs similarly to the Fishing Tourney: players have three minutes to catch as many bugs as possible. Catching bugs grants points, which can be exchanged for bug-themed items from Flick.

Subsequent tournaments also charge the same entry fee of 500 Bells, and Bug-Off trophies can be received through the mail. Players can also sell their bugs to Flick and receive 150% of their average sell value.

The July Bug-Off is only scheduled to run in the Northern Hemisphere. The next Bug-Off in the Southern Hemisphere is scheduled for November.

Finally, there are a few Nook Shopping events in July:

Overall, July is an excellent month for critter collectors in Animal Crossing New Horizons , with two critter-catching contests and a significant monthly rotation of new bugs, fish, and deep-sea creatures in the Northern Hemisphere. Southern Hemisphere players have less to do but can still join the Saturday tournament to test their critter-catching skills and earn special rewards.

One Elusive NPC Could Use an Overhaul in the Next Animal Crossing

The Next Animal Crossing Could Transform One Mechanic From an Afterthought to a Fan Favorite

Pokemon go inbound from ultra space - all timed research tasks & rewards, baldur's gate 3 fan shows off female astarion cosplay.

  • Wisp, a unique NPC in Animal Crossing, could benefit from an update to become more engaging and provide better rewards.
  • Changes like using spirit pieces as currency for a catalog of items and exclusive rewards can make Wisp more popular and meaningful for players.
  • If successful, this update could lead to more characters with exclusive currencies and prizes, providing players with more things to do and look forward to.

The Animal Crossing franchise is full of NPCs with different looks and personalities that players can enjoy. While the standard villagers are the most common and well-known, a special variety can be encountered that offers rewards after completing certain tasks. When considering which unique NPCs could use an update in the next Animal Crossing , one in particular needs it most as its current iteration leaves a lot to be desired.

Certain characters in Animal Crossing provide exclusive tasks that players can complete for rewards of varying rarity and value. One of these special NPCs is called Wisp, an elusive white ghost that only appears a little before midnight and disappears near dawn. The recent iteration of the character requires players to find and bring back to him 5 wandering spirit pieces to obtain special rewards. While simple and charming, more can be done with how the character is handled, as it feels it has the potential to become more engaging and provide better rewards.

One particular mechanic in the Animal Crossing franchise may become beloved by fans if the next game gives it a few meaningful changes.

How Animal Crossing Should Change Wisp’s Spirit Hunt

While the mechanics of helping Wisp in New Horizons are sound enough for players to commit to the NPC's task, the collectible spirits and rewards involved could use changes. Gathering the pieces and handing them over for randomized rewards can make players' efforts feel somewhat undervalued, especially if what's given is something the player already has. One way to change it for the better is to have the spirit pieces act as currency instead of one-time items to be traded. Such a change brings benefits like:

  • A new reward system where Wisp offers a catalog of items he collected or tasks he can finish, each with its own price of spirit pieces
  • The addition of potential new items that can only be purchased through Wisp
  • Wisp offering new and exclusive rewards that can only be purchased from him, increasing his value
  • Players accumulating the spirit pieces they collect for better rewards, incentivizing them to seek out Wisp more often

Besides making the character more popular, these changes make finishing his task more meaningful. Giving players full control over what they can obtain will make their efforts feel more appreciated, ensuring they'll look forward to meeting Wisp regularly. If the developers handle the update and execution well, this classic NPC could have greater significance in the next Animal Crossing .

The Other Benefits of Changing Wisp’s Spirit Hunt

Should Nintendo see that the changes to Wisp make him more popular and sought out, other significant characters may get the same treatment. A good example would be New Horizon 's iteration of Pascal and how his rewards are handled. Like Wisp, players have no control over what they'll be given for their efforts. Characters with similar mechanics can benefit from having a catalog of items that players can choose from, as the control makes the time and effort spent more worthwhile. If the next Animal Crossing has new or returning NPCs that can be traded with, then such a feature could make them more compelling and memorable for the players.

Such a change could also compel Nintendo to create even more characters with exclusive currency tied only to them. While earning lots of Bells in Animal Crossing can become a mundane routine at a certain point, having other mediums of exchange to collect can help shake things up. It provides players an alternate way of acquiring the items they need or want, possibly even getting extra rewards such as exclusive decor or crafting materials. The future mainline entry could introduce new characters with their own special type of currency and prizes, giving players more things to do and look forward to.

If there's one thing that the next Animal Crossing should focus on , it's emphasizing the significance of valuable characters like Wisp. If changing the mechanics of the adorable white ghost makes him more popular and sought out, then it helps Nintendo develop new and interesting characters or modify returning ones who operate similarly to the special NPC.

From terrific deals on MacBooks to the Super Mario Party Joy-Con bundle , Walmart’s rival Prime Day sale has surprised us with some pretty good deals. Today, we’re highlighting another one that’s perfect if you’re looking for something to keep the kids (or yourself) entertained this summer. Right now, you can buy an Animal Crossing -themed Nintendo Switch Lite at Walmart for just $159 ($41 off), which is the best price we’ve seen on Timmy & Tommy’s Aloha Edition bundle, which includes a digital copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons .

The Nintendo Switch Lite plays many of the same games as the standard Switch and the step-up OLED model , with similar battery life and performance. However, it can’t connect to TVs or play titles that require detachable Joy-Con controllers. At 5.5 inches, the kickstand-less handheld is also lighter and smaller than its hybrid siblings, rendering it a better option if you want something to entertain yourself while traveling. The display shares the same resolution as the standard model, but it appears sharper given the reduced size; it also features better controls thanks to the inclusion of a proper directional pad.

It’s worth mentioning that  Nintendo plans to release a so-called “Switch 2” next year .
