Located on The Hamptons’ largest marina, Montauk Yacht Club is a full-service resort just minutes from downtown Montauk. The most expensive property sale in Hamptons history, the renovated resort opened in 2023 with 107 modern yet nautical guest rooms, plus 22 standalone villas. Showfish, the property’s signature restaurant, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Il Forno offers Neapolitan-style pizzas to enjoy by the pool. A second more quiet pool, plus an indoor pool are also onsite, as is a quiet swimming beach on Lake Montauk. 

The entire waterfront property is dog- and family-friendly, with attentive service and amenities including paddleboards and kayaks, free cruises on the property’s electric yacht, and more – all with no resort fee. Outdoor sofas, dock chairs and loungers are ample across the hotel, so there are plenty of spaces to lounge, relax with a book (or smartphone, WiFi is strong), order a spritz and unwind. The crowd ranges from city and suburban weekenders to local folks who park their boats (yachts) on-site, with notorious late-night parties raging when Showfish transitions to club mode with a DJ. Don’t worry: the guest rooms are far enough away if you want a quiet, good night’s sleep, or if you just want to conveniently roll into bed at 4am.

Neighborhood

Located on Star Island on Lake Montauk, Montauk Yacht Club is at the edge of the East End hamlet, and a resort neighborhood within itself. That is, you don’t have to leave once you check in, and if you arrive by or have access to a boat, you can travel by water to local restaurants, beaches and more. Secluded from the summertime chaos of Montauk proper, but close enough to all the hubbub, Montauk Yacht Club is a getaway within a vacation town. 

Ditch Plains Beach:  Montauk’s famous surf beach is a top spot to sink your toes in the sand, catch a wave or watch the pros board in the Atlantic. Grab a bite from the popular food truck Ditch Witch and enjoy the scenic oceanfront views. 

Fisher’s Montauk :  Opened in summer 2023, this year-round Scandinavian restaurant melds Montauk ingredients and style with Nordic flavors in a stylish dining room and romantic backyard. Visit for grilled langoustines with herb butter, crispy cod with egg salad, natural wines and more. 

Surf Lodge :  For a fun night out, head to this luxe renovated motel which boasts an on-site beach to lounge on, plus a stage for live music. A full bar, small bites, and even a vegan lobster roll are served if you’re out for a casual hang, or sit down at the indoor-outdoor restaurant for a full meal after a show.

How guest reviews work

Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.

Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.

We were a bit disappointed with our stay this go around. Tuesday we saw a few ants in the room. We made sure to keep all food in zip locks or in the fridge so this was a bit of a surprise. This morning at the crack of dawn my son woke up screaming because there were ants in his bed. There also were covering the counter. I get that you can’t eradicate every bug, especially on the beach in the summer. But this was out of control. My father who was in the room next store, said he had a similar infestation. I reached out both via the property website and booking.com website with no response on either.

The only downfall to the trip was the fire alarm went off at 5 AM for about eight minutes loud. Unfortunately the last time I went away in Miami this happened as well. I was very surprised this happened at this hotel although they fixed it they didn’t have much to say when I brought it up to the clerk it was as if it was not a big deal. We were exhausted the next day, I think this was a big no no I needs to be avoided

Restaurant was OK. Pricey for what they offered I mean the food tasted fine just not for the price. When we got in front desk was not really helpful navigating around property so we had to figure ourselves. Overall not much to do small resort. And since they have wedding every weekend they don't really take care to guests not apart of wedding.

The rooms were great clean and cozy, concierge helpful finding things to do in the area.

Went here again for a conference recently, great food and very accommodating staff. The place looks great and has really been overhauled and kept up. Awesome little fitness room, two pools and a small sauna. My only gripe was the Wi-Fi didn't work the whole 2 days or so I was there. Otherwise it was excellent! A really nice hotel out in Montauk, recommended.

Stayed here for a few days and found the accommodations to be very nice. I was never at the facility previous to Gurney's owning and renovating it. It looks like they really did a nice job with the inside. Everything is new and bright. That being said some of the siding on the outside and the pier/decks are a little worse for wear. I used the gym while I was here but not the pool. The room is fairly decent sized and has an excellent amount of workout machines. The food was good, sort of like something you'd have at a wedding. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. I think they said they removed the spa, so I'm not sure if they are putting that back or what. Very nice place, enjoyed our stay.

Came for drinks and $1 oysters. Good beers. I have no idea if the food is good. The oysters have green apple and citrus. Very yummy. I am told it's a big scene on the weekends. Showfish. We anchored our boat and came by dinghy. We met up with a guy at the bar who paddles boarded over. He claims to have paddle boarded from Montauk lighthouse to block island. (He insisted I add that). What's not the like!

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful hotel. We loved the private beach and restaurants served some tasty food! We never left the hotel to eat! ONLY thing we didn't care for is the dining gap from 3:00pm-5:30pm where you aren't able to order food from their restaurants (drinks only). It was a bummer because check in was at 3pm and we were hungry after the 2.5 hr drive and had to wait it out for the kitchens to open back up on the premises. Other than that, we were happy campers! If you have a baby stroller beware that there are steps and no ramps. The hotel room we got overlooking the ocean was super clean (bathroom especially was spotless) and we can't wait to go back!

Loved it there, super chill. I had a beautiful, balcony with a view of my private beach and water The electric boat ride was great and free. The people that work there are so nice.

We scored a great last minute deal and it was my first time there. WOW!! I was blown away. The resort was amazing, restaurant and bars were amazing. The private beach was excellent and the view from the room, with a balcony, was stellar!!! This Carl Fisher building is a great piece of Montauk history. Hoping to score another great deal because we can't wait to return!

Amazing place!!

We just stayed at the Montauk Yacht Club - and I am not sure what to make of it. It looks beautiful, especially compared to other places I have stayed in Montauk, but it seriously lacks service. It is more of a hotel than a resort, but at top dollar resort prices. For example two egg sandwiches we got to go in the morning cost $54. There are not many options for food, I was pretty hungry and didn't want to drive anywhere since I was on "vacation" and there was no room service. Walking by all the glamorous young people at night while I was dressed to relax was kind of a downer. And no one answers the phone, even at the front desk, so you are on your own. I saw a lot of families with young children and then also a trendy party crowd which is a really weird mix. Nice view though and my dog liked it.

Great time away. Dog friendly. Kid friendly - with lots of activities - paddleboarding, kayak, tennis, pickleball. Tubing can be hired right from the hotel dock. Fun for adults too - pool was a scene on the weekend - and loved the idea of "sip and stretch" as an activity! Rooms lovely (we stayed second floor garden view). Food was great. Would go back.

We just hosted our daughter's wedding at MYC last weekend and I would give it 10 stars if I could! The new owners have dramatically improved the physical rooms, hallways, common areas and staff is super friendly and attentive (even before they knew we were part of the wedding party). From the moment we arrived we never opened a door, carried a bag and were constantly being asked if we needed help or assistance. Hotel: Staff was amazing and lots of people around for assistance of any kind. Rooms & Hallways : completely renovated, clean, chic, gorgeous. Food/bar: Delicious. Great variety of healthy, late night pizzas, delicious drinks, etc. Outside Space: Lots of great places to hang (either quiet or not) - poolside, on the beach, small sitting areas with beautiful fire pits, etc etc. Activities - there is something for everyone - singles and families - from tennis and paddle boarding to bike riding, a playground, beach, etc. For the wedding - I was beyond impressed with the number of staff assigned to help us make sure the day was perfect and smooth. From the super attentive bridal suite attendant (shout out to Marie!), to the bathroom attendant (who knew?) and after party helper - we never once had to look far for help or to ask a question. Our wedding was outside in a tent and the staff served the dinner in a timely manner, the bartenders were fabulous and it was the most perfect event in every way. I would highly recommend this gorgeous resort and cannot wait to go back!

Very unhappy with our three night stay this week. Expected a great experience, but many problems! Bad restaurant, horrible staff, careless teams managing new owned facility. Avoid staying here! We arranged for a second family to join us this week, we rented two rooms with water view and experienced so many problems we will never return. Our family of four (two kids) met with a second family of five (three kids) expecting to enjoy several pools on site, confirmed amenities and beach activities. - No working WiFi the first day, their team had not idea what the problem was, the second day the WiFi was only working in our rooms only, but not on the grounds, so I was not able to work on my computer, only in the bathroom for our three day stay! - keys to our rooms did not work the entire first day. After hours of arguments with their team trying 8-12 sets of keys and the doors not working, just got angry and told them to figure it out, then find us to give us the keys for entry. - pictures at the website show kayaking at the beach, but there were no working kayaks, they all had holes and not able to float!!! Our kids were very upset with this problem and complained the whole time. The team did not care, just told us new ones are on backorder! - We were eating breakfast with kids and man cutting grass with weed-wacker did not care to avoid us, sprayed us with cut grass ruining our breakfast and hurt one of my daughters with a rock from the weed wacker! I yelled at the guy and he just walked off, did not say a word!!! - Restaurant food is very poor quality. It was high priced, so we expected it to be good, but learned our lesson the first day... For lunch and dinner we had to return multiple dishes with order mistakes and just tasting bad. We decided to drive to town for breakfast pickup from the Montauk great bakeries and had great dinners at the local restaurants. Do not be a sucker! Avoid the restaurant! - We understand the facility is now being run by a new owner, but there is too much construction going on to enjoy the facility. Lots of saws, power tools and even a chain saw cutting down old dock posts. Horrible noise, not able to enjoy our long awaited family vacation! The working team at this facility is careless, could not be bothered to help us, did not care if we were upset about our problems and did not offer a refund for any of the problems we encountered! Never going to return!!! You are warned, it may look nice, but it's a nightmare!!!

Gurney's Montauk Yacht Club & Resort is a historic lakeside resort on Lake Montauk that offers 107 guest rooms and 22 villas. Recent visitors loved the property’s beautiful location. Montauk Yacht Club Review – Perfect for an October Getaway

The following post is contributed by my Lux Travel Chica – Lauren Pruner . Though I have written Montauk Yacht Club up for Greenwich Magazine, I have not yet had a chance to review it personally. Lucky for us, Lauren and her friends were willing to sample the cocktails and give us the inside scoop on a stay at this venerable Hamptons institution. Do remember though, they did not have to take toddlers.

… it’s official. I’ve broken out the long pants and flats – LTM has sent the most traveled kids I know back to school (Whoo hoo more invites for me – sorry Duffy!) and I’m lamenting summer sunsets, fruity drinks and Montauk nights at Surf Lodge. Summer in the northeast is a funny thing. It comes and goes so fast and we’re left wanting more the second they outlaw white pants after Labor Day. But lucky for us summer isn’t gone forever and Summer 2015 is closer than we think.

My own mother called out our lack of planning for next summer already! Somewhere around the last sips of rose with the turn of fall, we started thinking – where to? When? Though these questions seem premature when planning defunct family holiday’s that could come first – Summer 2015 will be here before you know it. So consider this recap of one of the best weekends of 2014 an inspiration for 2015 – if there’s one thing I learned about my trip to The Montauk Yacht Club it’s that the Hamptons wait for no one!

This summer I traveled to Montauk. Now while Kim-Marie’s kids may not be chipping in for a beach house filled with boys, booze and bikini’s there’s a WHOLE other Montauk observant of the same gorgeous beaches a little more family friendly location where your bed doesn’t have to be a sleeping bag and you don’t have to shell out several thousand to clean your own house. I know what you’re thinking – heaven! Well this looks pretty close – I mean who wouldn’t want champagne on a balcony overlooking yachts, perfectly green lawns, a beach, lighthouse and reggae band below, underneath the most AMAZING sunset sky?

So now that I have you drooling, I can’t thank the Montauk Yacht Club (MYC) enough for an amazing stay. I took a girls trip with a few other New York bloggers – Interior Design/Style extraordinaire Lauren of L auren-Nelson.com and NYC Style maven Jess of BowsandSequins.com. (It’s the hamptons it’s only right to come with a “blondetourage.”) Our trip out to the historic hotel this summer was well worth the 3.5 hour car ride when we pulled up greeted by the view above. Tucked away in the marina area of Montauk and surrounded by some of the most amazing boats I have ever seen – our goal was to nab a boat ride or two and maybe a crew member while we were at it! Ladies – note, men that captain boats, so good looking.

The 103 guestroom property with 23 Villa Guestrooms spans acres and has its own private beach real estate. Priding itself on seclusion MYC masters the balance of privacy and activity. Want to relax – you can outfit your entire vacation to make sure you are barely bothered, see few and pepper in a massage at the full service MYC Spa in between. Want to connect, experience and be active there are outdoor pools, tennis, volleyball and bocce courts, a playground and plenty of water sports and activities to keep you and a brood busy.

Us girls were looking for a little mix! A little fun in the sun and since Montauk is known for its 20-something nightlife – and quiet room so we could sleep in/sleep off the night before was much needed. Dare I say it we were husband hunting – and let me tell you it’s tiring! The rooms were nothing short of spaced perfection. Sliding doors for the night air and larger accommodations were just what we need since we were escaping microscopic NYC apartments.

So as we took on each day we made sure to check a few things off our trip’s bucket list such as:

Lobster Rolls – Who says no to these puppies? Well at MYC’s Hurricane Alley – it’s outside dining location; these are on the list and fresh for your enjoyment. Bring extra napkins.

Mixology – When we heard we were going to have the chance to sample and create some of the resorts favorite cocktails we jumped at the chance. The menu is tailored to recognizable ports of MYC’s parent company IGY – it’s namesake “MYC” Cocktail was a summer thirst quenching watermelon drink that was like a Moscow mule and summer had a love child. SO GOOD. Dare I say I had a few… save that for late afternoon cocktails mommies.

A Fancy Pants Dinner – Now who doesn’t like to take at least 1 night to dress up! Well we certainly did as guests of MYC’s main dining experience – Gulf Coast Kitchen. The food and drink were a great way to “wine-down” after a day in the sun. Minus the family sing-a-long happening a few tables over.

Watersports – Pick your non-motorized method o’ travel and they have it. Want to paddleboard, kayak or what looked to me like a water version of New York City’s pedicab, do it! Now while I didn’t want to risk falling off the paddleboard and ruining perfectly dry hair – I did watch a few 8-year-old pros. All water sports were accessible at the beachfront and a great way to keep kids active and in mom and dad’s view.

To say the weekend was unsuccessful was and understatement. Montauk Yacht Club does one thing right – by using the grounds to its advantage the resort can offer both relaxation and fun without ever having to worry if one is invading the other (well, minus the pool DJ on Sunday’s). The rooms are a retreat and the activities a blast – now if only I mastered a graceful fall off a paddleboard and into the arms of a buff/tan crewmen.

I want to thank Lauren for taking one for the team. I do plan to review this property with children in tow. There will likely be just as many cocktails, and sadly not as many buff/tan crewmen.

I want to thank Montauk Yacht Club for hosting Lauren, Jess and myself for a great girls weekend – see you same time next year? And don’t worry since it’s the Hamptons we’ll book ahead!
