DNA F1 A-CLASS RACING CAT

In close collaboration with DNA Performance Sailing, the F1 has been developed late 2015 - early 2016. Building on the 2010 DNA class A catamaran, which served as a platform for many developments for hydro-foiling appendages, rigs and lots more, the F1 provides a state of the art basis for new developments to test and implement.

The class A catamaran is a one person racing catamaran designed within a strict set of dimensions, weight and features such as top loading dagger boards for beaching, brought forward by the International A-Division Catamaran Association.

Named coolest sailboat ever built  by the catsailingnews.com blog, this boat boast a range of fresh ideas for performance and ergonomics. 

At this performance level, aerodynamics play a defining role. The wing deck leading edge is shaped to assure a clean entry of air flow into the "deck sweeper" sail. In order to reduce aero drag, the rudder cross bar integrates with the wing deck and the transoms are narrowed down. As a result, the F1 is the fastest upwind sailing A-cat ever.

Further novelties include a solid sheet trampoline, injection molded rudder cassette plates, synchronized foil rake control from the trapeze, improved ergonomics and lots more.

Only a bit of breeze is needed to lift the F1 its foils, both reaching and upwind. The series started out highly successful with the 2016 World Championship with Mischa Heemskerk in its very first race.

DNA F1, allegedly build for Glenn Ashby, if he would have joined the 2017 Worlds in Poland, which he didn't. Delivered for the last race of the season 2017, so practically not sailed before 2018.

The platform has continuously been updated. 2019, rudder system upgraded to F1X T-rudders and differential system 2020, Foilcases changed to F1X position and F1X foils installed Winter 2021-22, trampolin replaced 2023, sheet traveler moved backwards, to match the newer platforms, for better sheeting angle with new sails.

Der F1x A-klasse foiling Katamaran ist der ultimative Ausdruck unserer heutigen Designsprache. Das aerodynamische Design betont die Leistungsqualitäten dieses superschnellen foiling Rennbootes. Der durchgedachte Decksplan gewährleistet eine klare Steuerung und einen minimalen Luftwiderstand.

Foils Die Ruder und Schwerter, die bei den F1x A-Klasse foiling Katamarans eingesetzt werden, werden aus den hochwertigsten Prepreg-Kohlenstofffasern hergestellt. Die Foils werden in unserem eigenen Autoklav hergestellt. Unser siegreiches Foil-design wurde in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Glenn Ashby und den Designern des AC Team New Zealand erstellt.

Konstruktion Der F1x A-cat wird vollständig nach dem Carbon-Prepreg/Nomex-Herstellungsverfahren hergestellt und im Autoklav gebacken. Diese hochwertige Technologie ist die gleiche Konstruktionsmethode, die in der Luft- und Raumfahrt-Industrie und in den foiling Booten z.B. des America’s Cup verwendet wird.

Entwurf Das Design des F1x foiling Katamarans der A-Klasse wurde vollständig vom DNA-Designteam konzipiert und in der DNA-eigenen Abteilung hergestellt. Im DNA-Designteam arbeiteten Pieterjan Dwarshuis, Mischa Heemskerk und der renommierte niederländische Industrie-Design-Engineer Rudo Enserink eng zusammen, um den perfekten foiling Katamaran der A-Klasse zu entwickeln.

Lighter = better, craftsmanship, it all started about 35 years ago..., ...when company founder pj joined the a-class as a teenager - and built his own a-cat at the age of 16., with dna we create foiling multihulls and carbon custom parts.

Our company history

From Pieterjan Dwarshuis ‘ passion for sailing in the first place and that of the DNA team, we have been involved in composite yacht building since the foundation of Holland Composites.

Leading example of this is the construction of the Brunel Sunergy (Dutch entry for the Whitbread Ocean Race in 1997) and of many other types of yachts. In the photo gallery you can see some examples.

DNA Performance Sailing was founded in 2009 from the desire to fully design, engineer and build a yacht ourselves. The DNA A-class design was the reason for this. Since then, we’ve produced more than 400 of this type of boats.

Over the years, various products and yacht designs have been added to the DNA range.
