48' Ocean Motor Yacht for rent in Playa Herradura

We had an awesome time with the Captain, Elias, and Felix. They were so accommodating with our schedule and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and having a good time. Alex is a great communicator and responded to all of our questions ahead of time. They had a speaker that they carried around the boat depending on where we were, brought out snacks and a fruit platter, and even set us up for fishing (and we caught a fish!). Overall great experience and highly recommend.

During our pleasant lunch at Las Brisas waiting for our appointed meeting time, we observed the Surfari Del Mar offshore at anchor and wondered who would be taking the place of Captain Jack who, we had learned the evening before, had recently passed away. Much to our surprise, and eventual delight, we were approached by a lovely young lady who introduced herself as Frecia, skipper of the Surfari. While strong winds the previous day had kicked up sediment in the water where we snorkeled making it less than perfect, everything else on the cruise was exceptional – the sailboat itself, the crew (Frecia and her two Argentinian mates), the music playlist, the food and local drinks and the sunset. This was “Pura Vida” at its best! The booking of the cruise through GetMyBoat was easy and without issue.

We had an amazing experience with Byron, Chris, and Gilbert. Freest crew and great experience. This private charter was SO much better than a group boat ride. The control and attention were worth every penny!

That was one of our greatest days spent in Costa Rica. We were an international group of 6 adults and a small child who decided to have a boat trip right the next day. Captain Jack remained available for us till midnight for clarifying the booking details. We had 4-5 hours trip with diving, fishing and a delicious food made onboard included. We were also able to see the sunset from the ocean. The Captain Jack crew - Pressia and the boys are so lovely. We talked and laugh a lot with them. What a prefect day it was.:) I highly recommend you to reserve one day from your vacation and go for it.

Complete 5 star experience. Could not recommend a boat and crew more. Such a great day with wonderful service, food, drinks, and a friendly crew!

The purpose of our tours is to show you the beauties of the Pacific Ocean, as well as the dramatic and interesting coastline in the region comprised between the marina and the national prk, including fantastic views of cliffs, islets and islands, hills covered by dense tropical trees, both within the National Park and the surrounding areas.

Our private tours are conducted on sailing catamarans, classic sailboats and luxury yachts .

We offer different tours, among which are:

Private morning catamaran sailing 

– 4 hour private trip in the morning. During this ride, which leaves at 8 am and departs at 12 noon, you will enjoy snorkeling, sailing, beautiful views, fun on board. Hopefully we will see dolphins on the way, or sea turtles, and even humpback whales during whale season.

Sunset Charter

– The 4-hour afternoon private sunset charter departs at 2:00 pm and returns at 6:00 pm. Enjoy open bar, meals, snorkeling, sailing along the beautiful coastline, anchoring and visiting a rocky pinnacle for snorkeling or a beautiful natural beach.

Full day experience

– Full day tour departs at 11 am from Manuel Antonio or Quepos and returns at sunset. Includes open bar, meals, full lunch, snorkeling, (in some cases also paddle boards and kayaks) as well as exploring some beautiful remote and pristine clear sandy beaches. 100 % custom designed !

Anchor in quiet coves of uninhabited islands, explore natural parks only accessible by boat, snorkel at coral reefs or dive for fresh seafood. Description of Sailboat

45' Center cockpit ketch, 2 private staterooms, 2 heads, 1 shower, large salon, refrigerator, spacious cockpit, latest electronics, and roller furling.

Typical Day

Awake to fresh ground coffee and a breakfast of local fruits and typical foods. Under sail: Take as much active participation in the operations of the boat as you wish, learn the electronic systems, trim the sails, take the helm, navigate our course or simply relax and read a book. Try your hand at catching fresh fish for the evening meal, Mackerel and Mahi Mahi are excellent on the "barbi". At anchor: Shore excursions, hiking, snorkeling, surfing, boogie boarding, body surfing, swimming and fishing. Lunch served mid-day, dinner after cocktails at sunset.

Sleeping and meals

The forward stateroom is equipped with 2 single bunks, closet space, a head and a shower. The aft stateroom has a large queen sized bed, closet, dressers and a head. Both have hatches opening onto the deck and adequate windows for ventilation.

Guests decide on meal times and type of food (clients with special dietary requirements need to indicate that at the time of booking) Meals, coffee, tea, juice, soft drinks and sundowners are included in the rate.

Transportation can be provided to and from Juan Santa Maria Airport

English speaking captain has over 40 years experience doing sailing charters in this part of the world.

By booking a sailboat or sailboat catamaran with us, you will have the boat available for you and your group only.

The tours include open bar, snorkeling ( paddle boards and kayaks depending on the boat ) as well as great light food which goes from Chips, Dips, Guacamole, Fried Beans, Fresh Fruit to Burritos, Chicken Brochettes, Salads.

The open bar service includes good brands of national alcoholic drinks and beer ( gin, vodka, whiskey, rum ).

Since tours are customized, the client can choose if he or  she is more interested in seeing secluded beaches, open ocean or spend more time snorkeling. The choice is yours

Half day private sailing tour

Our 4 hour half day private sailing charters have to departing hours. The morning half day tour departs at 8 AM and returns by 12 . the afternoon sailing tour, also called sunset sailing, departs at 2 and returns by 6 pm. Both tours include open bar, snacks and food items, snorkeling gear and also, in some cases, both paddle boards and kayaks. Some sailboats and catamarans include paddle boards and kayaks, while other sailboats include paddle boards only, or kayaks only. Please always inquire at the time you book a boat.  The half day trips are the most popular among our clients.

Full Day private

If you are looking for a fantastic full day sailing charter, we have just the right tour for you. Our full day charter departs at 10 and returns by 6 pm. During this tour, you will enjoy the open bar and food service, onboard service, amazing views of the blue sky and Blue Ocean. You will also enjoy snorkeling near a rocky reef or islet along the coast, or anchor n a secluded pristine beach, far away from touristy developments.   The highlight of the tour is a delicious BBQ lunch which our team prepares and then serves on a secluded white sanded beach. You will also enjoy sufficient time at leisure on that beach, during which you can enjoy snorkeling, sunbathing, swimming r simply relaxing both on the beach or onboard the ship.

Yacht Charters in Costa Rica We have a fun-filled series of the tour that gives you a complete touch of Costa Rica. You get to enjoy thrilling trips to amazing places like the Tortuguero National Park which is popularly known as the home of flowers and animals. The route to this park is optional for you; you can either enjoy this adventurous trip through a road path, by boat or a zip line. That’s just one out of many; the pacific coast present you with awe-inspiring tours such as the wildlife tour to Curu National Wildlife Refuge, beaches of the island of Tortuga, etc. there’s a lot more to experience… let’s give you an overview of our one-week itinerary. 

One week itinerary

Day One On you arrival to San Jose, we allow you settle into the hotel of your choice while we get set for you first tour. Your journey starts as you go through Costa Rica’s West Coast to the magnificent Bahia Herradura, where you will be boarding your private yacht. It’s a luxury yacht filled with amazing accessories and features to give you great comfort. Day Two On the second day, we take a cruise to Quepos to enjoy a fun packed day. You get to enjoy a scuba dive. It’s an experience you will be glad to have. You get to swim under the water with the aid of breathing apparatus (scuba) and enjoy the beauty of nature under the water. On this same day, you will also take a trip to the world famous Manuel Antonio National Park. This park has a lot of exciting features. You get to explore the jungle to see the beauty of nature at its best. Squirrels, monkeys, three-toed sloths are just a few of so many wonderful creatures to see. If you have never gone on a wildlife tour you may never want to leave the scene. It’s great if you have your camera with you because you will have a lot you want to keep for future references. Day Three We take a luxurious cruise to Isla Del Cano a unique site known for its hidden world of submarine caves with a  display of alluring tropical fish, turtles, etc. one sight you will never forget is the magnanimous giant manta rays. After an exotic lunch on the yacht, we give you a while to spend some quality time to enjoy your siesta or any other form of relaxation you enjoy as we get set for dinner. It’s a wonderful dinner as we dine grand style under a canopy of stars in the immaculate Drake’s Bay.

Day Four Leave early for Golfo Dulce where we will stop for a trip to the Corcovado National Park. Here you will experience some quite spectacular bird watching such as pairs of scarlet macaws. When in the wild you will always find them in pairs and if they are captured and separated, they will never mate again as they always mate for life once they choose their partner. We'll paddle up the Agujitas River by kayak while listening to the cacophony of sounds that the yellow-orange billed toucans and scarlet macaws make. We'll anchor for the night in Golfo Dulce and have an early dinner onboard while the crew prepares for an overnight passage to Coiba Island in Panama. Day Five At Coiba Island, you will have an experience of a swim snorkel or scuba gear as you explore the reefs. You w ill also enjoy world class deep-fishing. Coiba Island is rich with tropical rain forest which is a home for varieties of beautiful birds like the red and blue-green macaws.

Day Six On the sixth day, you will be on a cruise to the Las Perlas Islands. They are geographically positioned in a way that they shelter the Isla Sonora Caves hosting the world largest pelican habitat. It’s a great sight to behold here and you can look around to find pearls of Espiritu Santo. Lunch is served onboard, with a variety of plenty to eat before you have your siesta. After a quality time of rest, you get to enjoy an exotic dinner again. Day Seven Our next tour will be to Mira Flores Lock and the much talked about Panama Canal. It takes about a full day or night to cross over to Isthmus Panama. Get your cameras ready as you may be lucky to catch a view of the endangered manatee which takes the Chagres River as its home. A lot of amazing animals will be seen on this tour, you never can tell what next you will be opportune to see. Dinner is served as you arrive at Puerto Cristobal Habor. The chef and the crew know its’ your last night and they will be prepared to spoil you with varieties of exotic meals. Day Eight As you depart the yacht at the scheduled time, there will be a classic transportation arranged by the captain to take your group to Colon to board a flight back home.

Worried about the rain. Interested in hiking/beaches/watch the turtles/rainforest etc. Planning to stay in air bnb--no resorts. Heard that northern region and Caribbean coast can be dry. Any suggestions on the best places to visit late August. Also is it necessary to have a car ? Worried about driving unfamiliar areas in the rain.

You may elect to do the long land transfers, from and back to the SJO area, being driven. but it would be easy enough to drive yourselves if you rent a car to use locally after Tortuguero.

What is the length of your trip? How many areas can you cover?

You could do Arenal-Tortuguer-S. Caribbean, with either Arenal or S. Caribbean being the first point, depending on the fight times. You might need to spend the 1st or last nights near the international airport. If you decide to start or end with Tortuguero, you will definitely need to arrange for a night near SJO, as Tortuguero is boat (or domestic air with Sansa) access only.

https://www.puertoviejosatellite.com/index.php has lots of info for planning your transfers and stay on the east coast, incl. Tortuguero, S. Caribbean, as well as getting in between that coast and Arenal, for example.

It is turtle nesting season in Tortuguero, so August is a popular time in Tortuguero, and in CR in general, especially with families with school children.

When we were there in the 2nd half of Aug., the weather was mostly good, but it is impossible to predict how it will be for you on your dates. We bring light rain gear with us to CR. You never know when you might need it.

Thank you, The weblink is super helpful. We are flying into SJO and have about 10 days. TRaveling with my daughter and son. Daughter only has 7 vacation days and need to start working after that...so need good wi fii after that. Itinerary I have so far is

Day 5-- Shuttle/boat to Tortuguero. Spend Day 5, 6,

Day 7--Shuttle/boat to Puerta Viejo. Spend Day 7, 8

Day 9 Shuttle to San Jose. Spend night at San Jose and fly out Day 10.

This seems very tight. Are there any other beaches close to Tortuguero we can visit instead of going to Puerto Viejo .

Open to any changes to this itinerary. Thanks for any suggestions.

It is tight. Doable. Options: limit to 2 locations or reduce time in Arenal or Tortuguero (though ideally, longer than 3 days in Arenal and 2-3 nights in Tortuguero would be good).

SJO is located in Alajuela. Stay somewhere not far from SJO, possibly a place that includes airport transfers in their rates, not in San Jose city.

I wouldn’t stay right in Puerto Viejo , unless you need nightlife, bars, etc. Consider Cahuita. It is walkable and has a national park where you could see wildlife and possibly swim, too. Admission into the park is by donation. We stayed in Cahuita more than once. Depending on where exactly you stay, you might be able to see wildlife on the property of your hotel, too, like a sloth, monkeys, ..,Not everywhere, of course. Read the reviews. There is a bank/ATM, some stores, places to eat, so for a short visit without a car , this is where I would stay. There are local buses/terminal, all within a walking distance there.

You can use rafting as an adventure connection to get to the east coast from San Jose/SJO or from Arenal/ La Fortuna area, so no need to use time for a rafting tour, if you have other things planned during your brief time in Arenal.

If both your children are adults, you might be relying on private transfers, vs shared shuttle vans, as shared transfers are paid per person, adult/child rates, and private rides - per ride, one way, usually the same price for 1-4, or up to 5-6 ppl travelling together, depending on the company. https://www.iltcostarica.com/product/transportation/private-shuttles , https://www.morphovans.com/ , possibly a private driver arranged by your hotels should give you an idea of transfer costs. Vans from Interbus, Caribeshuttle and other shared shuttle companies from https://www.puertoviejosatellite.com/shuttle-to-puerto-viejo.php could give you an idea of the costs if paying for shared transfers. Some shared transfers like vans from Interbus gave us 20% off the total cost of all the transfers, when we booked 3 rides with them during 1 of our trips. There are also express buses connecting S. Caribbean and San Jose city (not SJO) for about 11 US pp one way. Either way, it is a lengthy transfer. So travelling to S. Caribbean for 2 days is doable, but I would want longer there.

https://www.puertoviejosatellite.com/areas.php gives you an idea of the areas/beaches on the Caribbean coast. They are not sugar-white beaches with consistently calm clear water for off-shore snorkelling of some other world destinations. Visibility might be an issue, depending on the rainfall, and there are often waves/riptides. We liked that coast for its wildlife opportunities and mostly walking on the beaches, or surfing, so make sure you don’t travel all that way thinking of it as purely a beach destination.

I think what you propose can work. The drive down the Caribbean coast is not that long and the time isn't wasted. Views from the road are always interesting.

I agree that for several adults a private driver won't cost more than individual shared shuttle fares. You'll also be able to customize pick up times.

Rather than staying in rental houses, consider small lodges where you can have the support of staff at a reception desk. You can still have private accommodations, breakfast may be included, and some have kitchen facilities.

For example, look at Arenal Oasis Ecolodge; they have two bedroom villas. I'd also recommend Hotel Kokoro and Lomas del Volcan. I loved Hotel Manatus in Tortuguero. Check out 3 Bamboo near Cahuita and I have my eye on Villas Pina near Puerto Viejo .
