The 10 Most Memorable Yachts in Movies

Yachts equate to luxury in real life and on the big screen, and they've been featured in a huge list of hit films. Sometimes yachts are used for romantic interludes, other times they're put to work as the ultimate getaway vessel or as the scene of an ostentatious celebration.  No matter what the occasion, the main point of inserting any yacht into any film is to elicit some kind of "ooh" or "ahh" from the audience.  These movies accomplish that and more.

In no particular order, here are 10 of the most memorable yachts that have been featured in movies.

1. Usher, Entourage (2015)

Usher, also known as Mr. Terrible, is the 47 meter superyacht in the 2015 movie Entourage. On screen, it symbolizes the decadent lifestyle of main character Vincent Chase, played by actor Adrian Grenier. This yacht was fitting for the movie, as it really is as lavish as it looks. It sports an elevator, spacious sundeck, Jacuzzi, five luxurious cabins, and has been used for partying off the coast of Florida and in the Caribbean in real life. It accommodates up to 12 guests and was engineered to be a powerful performer.

2. Northern Cross aka Manticore, Goldeneye (1995)

One of Pierce Brosnan's most memorable performances as Bond was in 1995's Goldeneye, in which he saves the world from a global financial terror plot. In the film, the yacht Northern Cross was called Manticore and served as the residence of smooth assassin Xenia and her crew. Northern Cross is actually available for charter in the Baltic Sea, and it costs tens of thousands of dollars to do so. The 43 meter yacht hosts up to 12 passengers and has six fabulous suites. It ranks as one of the favorite yachts in movies among Bond fans.

3. R Rendezvous aka Left Hand, Donnie Brasco (1997)

Few who have seen the crime drama Donnie Brasco will forget the yacht seen in the movie, Left Hand. It was an integral part of the plot, not just a nice showpiece, but its looks alone make it one of the more memorable yachts in movies. Called R Rendezvous off-screen, the 34 meter yacht was produced in 1992 and it still stands today. Those with the cash to charter R Rendezvous get to enjoy its onboard Jacuzzi, big sundeck, and three cabins with plush amenities.

4. Attessa, Overboard (1987)

Attessa was the yacht featured in the 1987 romantic comedy Overboard, starring Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. The interesting thing is this yacht actually belongs to a super rich man named Dennis R. Washington. He's an industrialist worth several billion dollars who loaned the 144 foot long Attessa to the crew while the movie was in production. Washington also lent the boat to the producers of the 1993 Demi Moore film Indecent Proposal.

5. Kingdom 3KR aka Flying Saucer, Never Say Never Again (1983)

Kingdom 3KR, the yacht seen in the 1983 Bond film Never Say Never Again, was special for several reasons. Not only was it in Sean Connery's final movie in the franchise, it was the most expensive yacht in the world at one time. Kingdom 3KR also has an interesting history. Donald Trump bought the 86 meter superyacht for a whopping $29 million, revamped it, and dubbed it the "Trump Princess". He later sold it for $40 million to a Saudi billionaire flush with cash in 1991. The yacht now has its own movie theater onboard, a helipad, dance floor, and can host up to 22 passengers in 11 suites.

6. Lady M aka Naomi, The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

The Wolf of Wall Street is all about excess and its pitfalls, so you know the film had to include a super swanky yacht. In the movie Leonardo DiCaprio's character, Jordan Belfort, gifts the yacht to his wife, played by Margot Robbie . The boat is named after her, Naomi. The vessel was shown prominently onscreen as the site of raucous parties and all types of debauchery.

In actuality, the 44 meter Lady M was built for luxury cruising and has a host of lavish details. A professional grade gourmet kitchen, marble flooring, a baby grand piano, wet bar, Jacuzzi, and five stylish staterooms all combine to make it super impressive and one of the most expensive yachts in movies.

7. Helios 2 aka Anson Bell, Syriana (2005)

Matt Damon and George Clooney gave award winning performances in the 2005 drama Syriana, and the Anson Bell -- real name Helios 2 -- was at the center of the action. The 51 meter custom yacht has an aluminum superstructure and hull, along with a state of the art stabilization system. Engineered by esteemed brand Palmer Johnson, Helios 2 really is the epitome of luxury in all its forms, just as it was in Syriana. It has five gorgeous cabins and can be enjoyed by up to 12 guests.

8. M3 aka Soufriere, Casino Royale (2006)

Daniel Craig made his first appearance as 007 in 2006's Casino Royale, and he did so while looking suave on the M3. It was called Soufriere in the film, and was custom made for the movie in 2005 by none other than British company Spirit Yachts. When it carried Bond and Vesper Lynd on a romantic trip through Venice, it became the first yacht to travel the Grand Canal in three centuries. The 32 meter sailing yacht can reach a top speed of 43 knots and has four cabins onboard. It also has advanced media systems, a spa pool, and enough water toys to keep anyone entertained for hours.

9. Wallpower 188 aka Renovatio, The Island (2005)

Ewan McGregor starred in the 2005 Michael Bay film The Island, in which he notably sketches the look of a yacht that's imprinted in his psyche. A modern sci-fi flick about a utopia needs an awesome boat, right? That role was filled by Renovatio, which is really called the Wallpower 188 and was built in 2002. This particular yacht oozes class and its angular profile makes it stand out. The 36 meter vessel reaches a top speed of 60 knots, has a Rolls-Royce Kamewa water jet onboard, and dons a color shifting exterior. The Wallpower 188 has won many yacht and design awards, and is renowned around the world for its innovative features and style. It was put on the market after the movie's production for $33 million.

10. White Knight, The Bourne Identity (2002)

The White Knight yacht was shown in 2002 in the first installment of the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Identity. Jason Bourne, played brilliantly by Matt Damon, goes onto the boat to attack one of his targets. Bourne ultimately doesn't carry out the mission, but White Knight looks spectacular nonetheless.

People can actually charter it in the Mediterranean, and it was built in 1985. The yacht underwent renovation in 2010 to make it better than ever. It now has 8 large cabins, an outdoor dining area, and a wealth of amenities and entertainment options.

Superyachts which are attributed to high lifestyle and money are often used by movie directors as part of their set when displaying a life of opulence. Whether used as the ultimate getaway vehicle, for romantic interludes in a scene, or for lavish, over-the-top parties, whenever featured they bring excitement to a movie.

Most, if not all filmed yachts are privately owned and on the charter market, available for rent through a charter broker. even as an integral part of the movie, the yachts rarely get credited so let’s explore them..

M3 in The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013)

The 2013 film “The Wolf of Wall Street” predominantly features the yacht M3 (ex: Lady M) . M3 is a luxury 147-foot motor yacht, built for Coco Chanel, that accommodates ten passengers in five staterooms, including an Owner’s suite, 1 VIP suite, two doubles, and a twin. The yacht was named ‘Naomi’ in the film after the second wife of the key character – Jordan Belfort a stockbroker, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.  The plot features a massive party aboard with a famous scene of “raining fun coupons.”  Making it rain fun money!   Later in the film the yacht supposedly sinks between Porto Cervo and Capri in a disastrous storm.  In 1997 a real-life similar yachting disaster happened to Jordan Belfort.

SARASTAR in Murder Mystery (2019)

In a mystery-comedy movie called “Murder Mystery” starring Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, the yacht Sarastar was used as the crime scene of a murder and where the investigation takes place.  It was the private yacht of the billionaire. Soon the couple, Aniston and Sandler, become suspects in an Agatha Christie- esque murder mystery. Sarastar is 197 feet in length and was built in 2017 in Italy.  She accommodates twelve guests in six staterooms including an Owner’s suite and five double staterooms. Her foredeck is multi-purpose as it can be used as a Helipad, dance floor or for sunbathing. Below the foredeck is the garage that houses all her sea toys and tenders.

WHITE KNIGHT in The Bourne Identity (2002)

“The Bourne Identity”, the first of three films starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, hired the White Knight to be seen in the flashback scenes of Bourne – interior shots, before he jumps off the yacht after being shot and floats away. She is an older superyacht, built in 1985, that has been kept in tip top shape and was for charter in Greece until she was pulled off the market and made private.

KISMET in Six Underground (2019)

The yacht Kismet was used in the filming of the movie “Six Underground” in 2019.  The movie produced by Netflix, was filmed in Italy in 2019 and features the yacht Kismet in many scenes.  A group of eighty or so guests were filmed aboard having a large party scene and a few other action scenes with explosions near the yacht filmed.  The plot involves international operatives who are trying to take down a notorious dictator and the yacht is used as the setting in the final scene where Kismet, the stronghold of the dictator, gets blown up. Kismet, owned by Shadd Kan a Pakistani-American billionaire, was built in 2014. She is 312 feet in length, has five decks and can comfortably accommodate 270 guests for a party. One of her interesting features are video walls that reach two decks high.

PARSIFAL III in Below Deck Sailing Yacht (2020)

Captain Glenn Shephard and his crew set sail in a luxury sailing yacht to explore the crystal-clear blue waters of the Ionian Sea in the new spinoff of the TV show “Below Deck” (2013).  They have chosen the sailing yacht Parsifal III a 177-foot super sailing yacht as their vessel.   She is filmed in the new trailer cruising the Greek waters around Corfu. Up to twelve passengers can be housed in her six staterooms.

WALLPOWER 118 in Island (2005)

The sleek yacht Wallpower 118  is unique in design and certainly will catch your eye.  She appeared in the film “Island” as Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor, the main characters, are set free and sail away in the sunset on this futuristically styled speed boat.  She can hit amazing speeds of 65 knots making her one of the fastest vessels in the world of her size.  She has three staterooms aboard for 6 guests. This film put Wally builds on the map for the non-yacht lover.

THUMPER in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016)

The 131-foot Sunseeker called Thumper was featured in the film “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie”. The scene shows two of the stars sipping champagne as they cruise the coast of Cannes. The stars Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley only spent about six hours aboard filming the scene. She has four staterooms and accommodates up to ten passengers.  Built in 2014, awarded the world superyacht award in 2015 has five cabins to accommodate ten.

USHER in Entourage (2015)

Usher , a US-built 154-foot motor yacht was used in the opening scene of the movie “Entourage” in 2015 as a huge party is hosted aboard. It is used to symbolize the decadent lifestyle of the main character Vincent Chase. She has five staterooms and accommodates up to twelve guests.  Her deck has a lovely Jacuzzi for relaxing day or night.

HELIOS 2 in Syriana (2005)

George Clooney and Matt Damon star in the movie “Syriana”.  Helios 2 was used to help depict the abundant lifestyle of a Middle East Prince. Helios 2 was perfect in depicting the wealthy, flamboyant lifestyle of the Princes. Built in 2002 and refurbished in 2006 she can accommodate up to twelve guests in an Owner’s suite, two doubles and two twin staterooms.

HAIDA 1929 in Mamma Mia! (2008)

“Mamma Mia” featured the Haida 1929 , which is one of the oldest mega yachts in the water of today. She is 233 feet in length and offers the experience of cruising back in the 1930’s.  She was highlighted in the film on the scenes of the ABBA song Money, Money, Money with Meryl Streep.

PLANET NINE in Tenet (2020)

The sci-fi thriller movie “Tenet” spared no expense in securing the superyacht Planet Nine, 240 feet , to double as the lair of Tenet’s evil Andrei Sator. She was built in the Italian shipyard Admiral Yachts in 2018. She was filmed off the Amalfi Coast although her script location was Vietnam. The color of the yacht suited in helping make it feel sinister and almost military. They even placed a rocket launcher on the aft of the yacht.  It is equipped with a helipad which was portrayed in the movie as well as Andrei was off and on in his heli frequently.

TAIPAIN III in Rush Hour 2 (2001)

The Italian-built yacht in 1981, the Taipan III was used in filming “Rush Hour 2”. She has four decks and is outfitted with all the pleasure toys as newer models of yachts do, from jet skis, kayaks, and windsurfers and has a Jacuzzi as well. She is custom furnished with antiques offering old-world charm.

ATESSA in Overboard (1987)

The 130-foot superyacht Atessa (renamed Huntress) was named S.S. Immaculata in the 1987 comedy movie Overboard. Starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel, it was about the haves and have-nots and ultimately was a romance. Atessa was a part of the “have” life enjoyed before Goldie gets amnesia and gets thrown into a life of “have-not”.  Atessa was also featured in the 1993’s movie Indecent Proposal starring Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson. The owner of the Atessa actually lent the yacht to both film productions. She has three cabins aboard and a Jacuzzi.

R. RENDEZVOUS in Donnie Brasco (1992)

The movie “Donnie Brasco” features a yacht named Left Hand in the movie but in reality, it is the R. Rendezvous .  Built in 1992 she is 111 feet in length and played an integral part in the movie.

SOLANDGE in Successeion (2018)

The TV series “Succession” uses the German-built 280 feet long superyacht called Solandge .  A main feature is its panoramic upper deck that consists of a beach club, dance floor, full DJ station and bar.  This HBO series filmed its finale aboard of season 2. She accommodates guest up to 12 in an owner’s deck and suite, and eight stunning staterooms.

No list is complete without mentioning 007 aka: James Bond and the yachts used in his movies. It is well known the Bond movies showcase high-end luxury yachts and vehicles attributed to a fast-paced lifestyle.

FAIREY HUNTRESS in From Russia With Love (1963)

Some of the yachts were small but powerful and had an impact in the films. Sean Connery played Bond in “From Russia with Love” where there is an iconic yacht chase as he and the Bond girl Tatiana Romanova travel to Venice.  It is a small boat, Fairey Huntress , but they make a spectacular escape.

GLASTRON GT150 in Live and Let Die (1973)

In 1973 another small boat chase made headline in the movie “Live and Let Die”.  Here Roger Moore as James Bond careens through the everglades aboard Glastron GT150 and makes a 120 foot leap over the sheriff’s car.

KINGDOM 5KR in Never Say Never Again (1983)

“Never Say Never Again” used the yacht Kingdom 5KR as the floating base, named Flying Saucer,  of the evil Mr. Blofeld. A superyacht indeed at 282 feet in length, it was built in 1980 and at the time was the 8 th largest superyacht. Maybe more commonly known as once owned by ex US President Trump, it is now owned by Prince Al-Waleed. This yacht has everything on her five decks from a disco, cinema, a helipad, pool with a water jet, 11 ultra-luxurious suites and houses a crew of 48.

NORTHERN CROSS in Goldeneye (1995)

Pierce Brosnan plays James Bond in 1995’s “Goldeneye”.  The yacht Northern Cross was used to portray the residence of the assassin Xenia and Bond is out to save the world from a terror plot. This lair of the villain was named Manticore in the movie. They filmed most of her scenes off Monaco. The yacht is 141 feet and accommodates her guests of up to 12 in 6 luxurious suites.

M3 in Casino Royale (2006)

“Casino Royale” featured the M3 , a luxury Sunseeker Predator 108 foot built in 2003 as the Villain’s floating lair and filming on location in the Bahamas. .  Her four staterooms accommodate up to eight in an Owner’s suite, VIP and two twins.

Spirit 54 starred in “Casino Royale” with Daniel Craig and Eva Green in 2006, presenting herself with dignity as a classically elegant unique sailing yacht. The sailing yacht Spirit was featured heavily in this Bond movie and was the first yacht to sail up Venice’s Grand Canal in over 300 years. She was custom built for the movie by British contemporary yacht builders. During the yachts filming in Venice, the rigging had to be taken down ten times to fit under the various bridges. She has two staterooms aboard.

Sunseeker Sovereign 17 in Quantum of Solace (2008)

Shortly after, in 2008, James used a small yacht, an original (vintage) Sunseeker Sovereign 17 in the Bond movie “Quantum of Solace.  The scene takes Bond to Mathis’s villa in Italy. a Sunseeker Superhawk 43 is also featured in a chase scene in Panama.

ARIA I (ex: Regina) in Skyfall (2012)

James Bond takes to the water aboard a yacht once again for “Skyfall”.  This time he is in a neo-classical steel-hulled schooner of 183-Feet, Turkish built, now named Aria I . In the movie, James sails the yacht referred to as ‘Chimera’ to Hasshia Island, the villain’s island, in the East China Sea. There are five staterooms aboard; two Owner’s suites, two double staterooms, and two twin cabins for a total of twelve guests.  Today she sails on charter in the Greek isles and flies the Greek flag.

SPIRIT 46 in No Time To Die (2021)

Here is a sneak peak of the new James Bond movie, “No Time To Die”, using Spirit 46 . The soon to be released film will feature the classic wooden-hulled sailing yacht Spirit 46. We will see James behind the helm sailing off the coast of Jamaica, in style.

Superyachts have played star roles in many a movie and TV show.  They range from the villain’s vessel to the play toy of millionaires. They have been depicted and seen as the ultimate in luxury and style symbolizing wealth and status.

So for those of you who have watched superyachts in films and wished you knew more, here was a small glimpse into some of them. oh, the lifestyle of being aboard a yacht, well, we all can’t all own them, but we can charter them.  these movie producers certainly did as all are for hire around the globe.  “rent the yacht, own the feeling” as valef yachts says..

Superyachts have long been used as symbols of wealth, status, and luxury in films. Because yachts are not typically built for filming, one must be rented and, in some cases, specifically reproduced. As a result, many private superyachts have been specifically chosen to appear in films, increasing the yacht’s value and fame. Here are some of the most opulent, magnificent, and stunning superyachts featured in movies…

M3 (ex. Lady M) – The Wolf of Wall Street

LOA: 147 ft

The superyacht was built in 2002 by the US yard Intermarine, with exteriors and interiors designed in-house by Daniella Speicht. M3 can accommodate 10 guests across 5 cabins, including a master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 2 doubles, and 1 twin, with a beam of 29 ft and a draft of 8.2 ft. She is propelled by two 2,250 hp Caterpillar engines, allowing her to reach a top speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.

Kismet – Six Underground

LOA: 312 ft

The German yard Lurssen’s 312-foot motor yacht Kismet, built in 2014, plays a central role in Michael Bay’s blockbuster, 6 Underground. The film has already set the record for the largest Netflix production. The streaming service invested USD 150 million in the production of the action film, which starred Ryan Reynolds, Melanie Laurent, Dave Franco, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, and Corey Hawkins.

Kismet has five decks and was designed with corporate entertainment and charter in mind, making it suitable for parties of up to 270 guests. Kismet boasts video walls that can extend up to two decks high and can display regular television as well as high-definition moving artwork.

S/Y Aria I. (ex. Regina) – Skyfall

LOA: 184 ft

Originally known as REGINA, the 184 ft luxury schooner is now known as ARIA I starred in the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall alongside Berenice Marhole and Daniel Craig, and now it’s your turn to appreciate the true beauty of this classic and elegant vessel. The steel schooner’s interior and exterior designs were created by Aylin Ors and Ayberk Apaydin, respectively. She has two 440 horsepower MAN engines that allow her to reach a top speed of 12 knots. Six cabins on the Aria I can hold a total of 12 passengers.

White Knight – The Bourne Identity

LOA: 153 ft

The Bourne trilogy’s opening spy thriller, “The Bourne Identity,” featured the superyacht. Jason Bourne appears in a few flashback scenes aboard White Knight, and a few interior shots can be seen just before Bourne jumps off the boat and floats away in the water after being shot. The classic displacement yacht White Knight, which can sleep up to 12 guests, was built in 1985 by Astillero Jorge R. Chediek and underwent a complete refit in 2000. White Knight can travel at a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots thanks to two 1325 hp General Motors engines.

Kingdom 5KR (ex. Sultan) – Never Say Never Again

LOA: 282 ft

Last but not least, the 86-meter superyacht Kingdom 5KR appeared in “Never say never again,” another James Bond film. The movie’s Flying Saucer, the floating headquarters of Ernst Stavro Blofeld’s arch-enemy, was represented by the ship. Kingdom 5KR, the yard’s flagship and the eighth-largest superyacht in the world, was launched by Benetti in 1980. Originally known as Nabila, she was Luigi Sturchio’s creation and was Benetti’s largest ship until the 295 ft Lionheart was introduced in 2016.

The superyacht has five decks, a disco, a movie theater with 12 seats and two double beds, 11 opulent suites, a helipad on top (its funnels are sloped outward to avoid interference with the helicopters), a pool with a water jet on top in front of the heliport, two Riva tenders, a crew of 48, a top speed of 20 knots, and a cruising speed of 17.5 knots.

5 superyachts made famous by the movies

Famous Superyacht? Aren’t they all? Yes maybe, but some find themselves becoming celebrities in their own right. We take a look at some Superyachts that have enjoyed 15 minutes of fame on-screen. Did you spot them at the cinema?!

What’s a James Bond movie without a Superyacht, right? The first of our Bond boats is Sunseeker’s 32.9m Casino Royale, which appeared in the 2006 film of the same name. If you fancy re-enacting the scene for yourself, Casino Royale can be chartered in the Western Mediterranean, with weekly rates from €65,000.

Our second famous Superyacht is another Bond star. Also the only sailing yacht on the casting list, is the beautiful 56m Regina. Built by Pruva Yachting and launched in 2011, this sailing starlet appeared in 2012 ‘Skyfall’ under the pseudonym ‘Chimera’. Regina was sold at the start of January 2019 and has since been renamed.

Another Sunseeker to have made it to the big screen is 40m Thumper. This popular charter yacht appeared in 2016’s ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’. She played host to Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley as they sipped Champagne off the coast of Cannes. Sweetie, Darling!

Sky Atlantic’s ‘Riviera’ series not only starred Golden Globe nominee Julia Stiles, but also 54m Turquoise AND its owner!  The 54m Superyacht was built by the Turquoise shipyard . Featuring in Netflix’s latest good guys vs bad guys blockbuster ‘6 Underground’, alongside Ryan Reynolds. 37m/121ft motor yacht OCEAN CLUB (ex.ASPEN ALTERNATIVE, CHAIRMAN) was an integral part of romantic comedy remake Overboard and she is currently available for summer charter in the Bahamas and Caribbean .

Refitted in 2014, she comes equipped for action and leisure with an on board gym, bikes, plenty of water toys and a Jacuzzi and home theatre system.

The classic interiors designed by Patrick Knowles are perfect for special events such as honeymoons, or for impressing on a corporate event charter. Sleeping up to nine guests over five large cabins, there is plenty of room on board to host a party, with wet bars across the deck to complement meals.

M3 (Ex.Lady M)

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort partied hard aboard superyacht M3 (ex.LADY M, AQUASITION) in 2013’s  The Wolf of Wall Street , and charter guests will find the perfect set-up for their own special occasion. Internationally recognised  Luiz De Basto Designs was involved in both the interior and exterior styling, where the timeless surroundings are fitted with a grand baby piano, marble flooring, a wet bar and games table to suit the mood as the evening progresses.

The sundeck is the ultimate place on board for sunshine, cocktails and relaxation, with a wet bar, Jacuzzi and plenty of sunpads to choose from – all for 12 guests to enjoy all to themselves.

Northern Cross

It should come as no surprise that the James Bond films are heavy contributors to this list, showcasing dazzling locations and the latest luxuries in accessories and, of course sports cars and superyachts.

For that reason, Marin Teknikk ‘s 1991 superyacht NORTHERN CROSS, which featured in classic James Bond film  Goldeneye , is a staple on this list. Charter guests find her every bit as lavish, and she has been carefully maintained and updated for romantic and atmospheric living areas suited to special occasions and family getaways throughout the year.

Ocean Emerald

When the 1991 film  Point Break  was remade in 2015, the unique and imposing 2009 luxury yacht OCEAN EMERALD from  Rodriquez Cantieri Navali was selected to film the on board scenes. The exterior deck areas make use of the 8.4m/27.6ft beam for large salons, while the alfresco dining options on the upper decks benefit from shade and panoramic views.

The stately interiors use a fresh monochrome color scheme and floor-to-ceiling windows for bright social spaces and a greater connection with nature. The five cabins use pale wooden paneling and plush mattresses for a cozy and comfortable night’s rest in preparation for a day of adventure with the water toys.

Classic motor yacht SURI was used as the location for the final dramatic scenes of 2016’s  Mechanic: Resurrection,  where a fight scene covering the sundeck down to the extensive main deck aft and swim platform. Built in 1978, she has an excellent and long-established reputation on the charter market, combining comfort with timeless styling for a home away from home.

The on board facilities include a spa and massage room, a media room, observation room, a helipad and a sundeck Jacuzzi – and that’s to say nothing of her comprehensive collection of water toys for all ages and fitness levels.

Casino Royale

You don’t need three guesses to work out which Bond remake this superyacht was named after. Originally known as motor yacht M3, this 33m/108ft Sunseeker Predator 108 lives up to her on-screen glamour with mirrors on the ceiling, contemporary styling and generous outdoor spaces for up to eight guests. An unusual feature for a sports yacht, she has a Jacuzzi positioned on the bow and a myriad of sunpads for guests to choose from to sunbathe or watch the night sky.

MY CASINO ROYALE

With a cruising speed of 32 knots, your group will be flying from one glamorous location to the next this summer to enjoy all the festivals and events the Mediterranean has to offer.

Joanna Lumley and Jenifer Saunders were aboard Sunseeker superyacht THUMPER for the filming of  Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie,  based off the hit British comedy TV series.

The pale blue and white interiors create a tranquil and stylish main salon and formal dining area, further enhanced by the massive windows and port-side sliding doors which open the room to the outdoor ambiance. As well as balanced indoor and outdoor spaces, there is an excellent collection of water toys.

Her engines are capable of a top speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots, offering you the option of taking in the sights as you cruise along or zipping to your next destination. Sleeping 10 guests across five large cabins, luxury yacht THUMPER offers a more intimate charter experience for family and friends groups.

The 47m/154ft Delta Marine superyacht USHER (ex.MR TERRIBLE) starred as the party boat in the 2015 film  Entourage,  showing off her spacious exterior aft decks and massive sundeck Jacuzzi. Scuba diving equipment and jet skis are among the water toys, while the exotic interiors boast wenge, bubinga, and Koa wood as well as art deco and Polynesian-infused styling in the glass work and panelling.

Offering accommodation for up to 12 guests across five cabins, motor yacht USHER is available for charter in the Caribbean and Bahamas as well as Florida . Capable of a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots, she represents performance and power as well as style.

While motor yachts usually bring the latest gadgets and glamour, it was the graceful 56m/184ft luxury schooner REGINA that starred in the 2012 James Bond film  Skyfall . Built only a year earlier, sailing yacht REGINA provided all the style of a classic vessel while incorporating the very latest navigational technology and impeccable interiors finished in rich mahogany and white lacquer.

Currently available for charter in the Eastern Mediterranean locations of Greece and Turkey , she offers up to 12 guests six luscious cabins, a variety of on board entertainments and an abundance of deck space for alfresco and sunbathing for making your own exotic adventure.

Although 1974-built expedition yacht ALUCIA hasn’t starred in any films, she has played an important role on the small screen as well as in long-term environmental research. Featured in the documentary Blue Planet II and the Great Barrier Reef , M/Y ALUCIA was refitted in 2016 with the latest research equipment and on board comforts.

Yachts have long been employed in movies as symbols of wealth, status and luxury, as well as of adventures, traveling and romance. In the imagination of a director certain things just fit well on a yacht and should therefore be filmed on one. One cannot simply film a luxurious, high-security, 'millionaires-only' party on a steamboat. Not nowadays, at least. Unless it's coated in gold!

Superyacht KISMET gets blown up in '6 Underground' movie

Starring in the biggest Netflix movie to date,  Lurssen ’s 95m/ 312ft motor yacht KISMET plays a central role in new Michael Bay blockbuster '6 Underground'.

With an A-list cast which includes Ryan Reynolds, 6 Underground promises high-speed drama, exhilarating action and a closer look at the world's 57th largest yacht KISMET . 

The yacht is at the centre of some explosive scenes- including one where she gets blown up with the help of CGI software.

Filming for the Netflix movie took place in October 2018, where she was spotted by local residents in Taranto, Italy.  Onlookers gathered along the coast to take in the action as the yacht cruised past accompanied by a filming helicopter.

Directed by the multi-award-winning director Michael Bay and budgeted at $150 million, 6 Underground is Netflix's priciest feature. The movie premiered on the 10th of December in New York, and was then released digitally to Netflix on the 13th. 

The cast is led by Hollywood heavyweight Ryan Reynolds, with support from Mélanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Adria Arjona, and Ben Hardy.

The plot follows six individuals from around the world, each an expert in their field with a skillset and desire to change the future. The team is brought together by a leader known only as One (Ryan Reynolds) whose sole mission in life is to right terrible wrongs by whatever means necessary.

Filming onboard

KISMET was hired for a week during filming and she played host to some of the most exciting and high-action scenes in the movie. 

The movie highlights the glitz and glamour of the superyacht lifestyle, particularly in the party scenes. Plenty of long shots of the yacht's facilities were shot during the day, where her sleek interiors and spacious amenities were showcased.

There are even a few shots of the yacht's foredeck basketball court and and oversized jacuzzi.

A separate set

However, a seperate set was also constructed for a variety of scenes, including the poolside shoot-out. KISMET does not have an aft deck pool, and the seperate set allowed for increased flexibility when shooting.

Director of photography Bojan Baelli informed IBC, an online media news source, that the crew had to be extra cautious when filming the dynamic scenes on board KISMET, stating that “[she] had teak floors which we had to protect in case they burned down”.

Special effects & CGI

Many of the exhilirating aerial shots were taken while the motor yacht was underway in Taranto, then later rendered for the full dramatic effect. 

This is apparent in KISMET's final scenes, where she is blown up and proceeds to sink slowly into the sea. This section of the movie was edited using CGI software.

How much does it cost to rent the 6 Underground movie yacht?

Available for private yacht charters , the cost to experience KISMET starts from €1,200,000 per week plus expenses. Currently, she is based in the Caribbean but will be cruising the Mediterranean for her summer season.

Guests onboard can expect to visit popular hotspots such as the French Riviera or the Amalfi coast , and may even get the opportunity to cruise by her old filming locations in Italy.

As the news broke that the sailing yacht ‘Regina’ from the James Bond movie Skyfall was on sale, we began to look back at the long line of breath-taking yachts that have graced the screen in these iconic movies. While Regina captured audiences in scenes with Daniel Craig, the opening sequence of The World is Not Enough , sees Pierce Brosnan in a high-speed chase down the River Thames in the Sunseeker Superhawk 34. And this is just the beginning; here’s our selection of the most extraordinary boats to have appeared alongside 007.

Having seen the sailing yacht glide through the azure waters off of Turkey in Skyfall , many movie goers would have inevitably dreamed of owning Regina themselves; now this dream can become a reality. Transforming the bow into an epic outdoor theater, the giant high-definition TV takes center stage. It’s perhaps the largest screen to feature on a boat of this size, sheltered by a temporary sunshade and flanked by sunpads on either side. And the submerged pool seats keep guests cool when viewing on hot days. In front of the wheelhouse is a bank of sofas and tables for guests who prefer to stay dry, yet still enjoy lines of sight usually reserved for the captain.

For the young European owner with entertaining at the forefront of his mind, Grey is an impressive first yacht. “He wanted something different for his first boat and asked to have the richest materials on board,” Elisa Corti, Tankoa’s PR representative, told Robb Report during a tour of the yacht in Monaco. “He paid a lot of attention to even the smallest of details.”

The entire boat is designed to elevate the onboard fun factor. It’s fitted with state-of-the-art stereo sound by Focal & Naim to bring a cinematic quality to films and sports, enhanced by acoustic leather wallpaper.

The sky lounge on the upper deck is a dedicated media room fitted with a large LG Signature rollable TV. The original layout included a second galley on this level, but in the spirit of socializing, the owner amended the design to include an open bar. A non-negotiable for the owner was the addition of Starlink satellite, which means the yacht has guaranteed connectivity for navigation, technology, and streaming media.

Built on speculation before the owner stepped in, much of the three-deck layout closely echoes the previous four units, except for a few owner customizations.

This includes the sundeck, which was extended by 108 square feet, a second pool, pop-up tables for alfresco dining, and an outdoor galley with a bar made from the largest slab of backlit black agate found on any yacht.

Other bespoke details include the single-but-significantly larger windows in each of the four light-filled lower deck guest cabins—two doubles and two twins. The owner also requested the use of leather on the interior, rare white Macaubas quartzite in the master suite, and soft carpet on the stairs.

Other materials include natural flamed Indian rosewood, European oak, eucalyptus, and Palissandro Bluette marble. And, of course, a TV in every room. “The client’s instructions were to deliver a result that would be luxurious and rich, a showcase of fine craftsmanship,” said Cassetta in a statement.

The full-beam owner’s suite with a walk-in wardrobe and en suite is on the main deck forward, with two asymmetric fold-down balconies on each side, both with windows that open when the balconies are closed. A VIP is also found on this level, located between the master suite and the main salon, which also has formal dining. With built-in deck spaces, the owner uses both the master and VIP as impromptu offices when needed.

Grey has a top speed of 17.5 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. Its range is 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots.

The best-laid plans of mice, men, and yacht buyers. The owner took delivery of his personalized boat last June, only enjoying a few weeks of cruising in summer before listing Grey for charter and sale. The good news is that it’s a ready-made platform for anyone who likes to party.

The jaw-dropping 115 metre Ahpo was delivered in 2021 by Lürssen to wide acclaim. Designed by Nuvolari Lenard , her voluminous interiors play host to a wide array of amenities including a 12-seater cinema equipped with velvet seats and a starlit ceiling. On the walls are three portraits of the owners’ favourite actors and artists – Dorothy Dandridge, Sidney Poitier and Sammy Davis Jr – created in black and white fabric mosaics that add a touch of vintage Hollywood to the elegant space.

Up to 12 guests can gather to watch films – nautical themed or otherwise – in the plush upper deck cinema on 82 metre Secret . Built by Abeking & Rasmussen in 2013, the superyacht for sale boasts an interior by Jim Harris with the cinema fulfilling the luxurious design brief. The space is home to 12 red leather cinema-style reclining seats, so guests can flick through the list of over 1,000 movies in utmost comfort.

White Rabbit

Famed for being the largest trimaran in the world, Echo Yachts ’ 84 metre White Rabbit has plenty of space for entertaining facilities like cinemas. Located on the sundeck, the cinema is finished in chequered Tasmanian oak and was designed as an informal area for younger generations to enjoy.  The cinema seats vibrate depending on what’s happening on screen, while the whole area can be shut off for a true cinema experience. Being away from the accommodation also means you can turn the volume way up.

The 85 metre SilverYachts explorer Bold is home to an enormous screen - or rather nine screens that can be synchronised to show one gigantic image - for streaming videos, looking at navigation information and charts, or watching a movie with the family. The space doubles up as a disco room in the evenings and the screen is hooked up to high-wattage sound via Renkus-Heinz speakers.

Nobiskrug ’s 92.4 metre Tatoosh was originally delivered in 2000, but emerged in 2021 following an extensive refit. A full cinema is located on the main deck and features plush armchairs and footrests in crimson velvet, offering the perfect place for a private screening or a cosy movie night on board. A starred carpet is reminiscent of Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame - which seems more than fitting.

Benetti ’s 108 metre IJE features an Art Deco interior by British studio RWD . Unlike the bright and airy main saloon and guest quarters, the cinema is finished in darker colours to ensure a perfect film-viewing experience and it’s fitted with a massive door and absorbing materials such as leather, carpets and soft cushions to prevent any noise from escaping into the adjacent guest or crew cabins.

Bilgin's 80 metre superyacht Tatiana has a wealth of entertainment features packed into her 1,680GT interiors styled by H2 Yacht Design . The cosy, blacked-out cinema features a warm colour palette and soft lighting and is equipped with plush sofas and even a daybed behind so that you can fully relax (or drift off to sleep) while watching your favourite film on the big screen.

Laurentia's interior designer Radyca is particularly proud of her aft deck cinema - and for good reason. The retractable HD projector is fitted right above the sliding doors leading to the main saloon and is double-sided meaning guests can watch movies from both the saloon and the aft deck at the same time. The screen is treated with special 360-degree projection technology - which can be applied to both vinyl and glass - meaning films can be projected onto both sides simultaneously using just one projector equating to an impressively high-tech space-saving solution.

Yachts for charter

Acoustics were a primary focus for the Reymond Langton design team during the construction of Nobiskrug's sustainable hybrid superyacht , and that means that movie nights in the cosy cinema room on board Artefact will be uninterrupted by the outside word. The room has been equipped with a theatre-size screen and Atmos surround sound for an immersive viewing experience, and is also decorated with three-dimensional custom-made ceiling and wall panels constructed from corrugated leather which are designed to help with acoustic performance and soundproofing.

Maltese Falcon

Superyachts aren’t just for the super-rich: Hundreds of scientists have used them for ocean research

For almost two years, Robert Brewin collected data from the bow of a superyacht as it sailed pristine waters from the Caribbean Sea to the Antarctic Ocean. 

The  Archimedes , a 222-foot (68-meter) “adventure” yacht then owned by the late hedge funder James Simons, boasts a gym, a jacuzzi and an elevator. But between 2018 and 2020, Brewin was concerned only with the boat’s Sea-Bird Scientific Solar Tracking Aiming System, installed to measure light reflecting off of the water. A senior lecturer at the UK’s University of Exeter, Brewin and his colleagues were analyzing microplankton — microscopic organisms at the base of the marine food chain — by studying the ocean’s color. The Sea-Bird’s readouts helped them verify satellite imagery. 

Brewin’s was not your typical superyacht itinerary, but he is one of hundreds of scientists to have used an adventure yacht — also known as expedition or explorer yachts — to conduct research on the ocean. In a  paper  published in January, Brewin and his co-authors touted the potential of “harnessing superyachts” for science, concluding that “reaching out to wealthy citizen scientists may help fill [research capability] gaps.” 

It’s a view shared — and being pushed — by the Yacht Club of Monaco and the Explorers Club, a New York City-based organization focused on exploration and science (of which, full disclosure, I am a member). In March, the groups co-hosted an environmental symposium that included an  awards ceremony  for yacht owners who “stand out for their commitment to protecting the marine environment.” The  Archimedes  won a “Science & Discovery” award. 

“If a yacht is operating 365 days a year, rather than having it sit idle it’d be much better for it to contribute a positive return through science and conservation,” says Rob McCallum, an Explorers Club fellow and founder of US-based EYOS Expeditions, which runs adventure yacht voyages. 

EYOS charters yachts from private owners for its excursions, and is a founding member of Yachts for Science, a four-year-old organization that matches privately owned yachts with scientists who need time at sea. (Other members include yacht builder Arksen, media firm BOAT International, and nonprofits Nekton Foundation and Ocean Family Foundation.) Yachts for Science will enable about $1 million worth of donated yacht time this year, McCallum says, a figure he expects to hit $15 million by 2029. 

“There’s a personal satisfaction that we are contributing to something that is bigger than us,” says Tom Peterson, who co-owns an insurance underwriting company in California and has what he jokingly refers to as a “mini superyacht.” Every year for the past decade, Peterson has donated about 15 to 20 days of time and fuel on the 24-meter  Valkyrie  to scientists, who he takes out himself as a licensed captain and former scuba dive operator. He often works with the Shark Lab at California State University Long Beach, and allows researchers to stay aboard for days at a time instead of having to constantly make the 1.5-hour trip to and from shore. 

To link up with scientists, Peterson works with the International SeaKeepers Society, a Florida-based nonprofit that engages the yachting community to support ocean conservation and research. “The more we understand things about the ocean in general, the better we all are in the long run,” he says. 

When “superyacht” and “the environment” appear in the same sentence, it’s usually in a different context. In 2019,  one study estimated  that a single 71-meter superyacht has the same annual carbon footprint as about 200 cars. In 2021, another  paper  found that superyachts were the single greatest contributor to the carbon footprint of 20 of the world’s most prominent billionaires, accounting for 64% of their combined emissions.

“If you really want to respect the environment, you can just go surf,” says Grégory Salle, a senior researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research and author of the book  Superyachts: Luxury, Tranquility and Ecocide . Salle is open to the idea that superyachts could be used to advance scientific research, but says it’s contradictory for anyone to buy a superyacht and claim to be truly concerned about the environment.

McCallum says people who own adventure yachts tend to be younger than your standard superyacht owner, and have a particular interest in remote and pristine places. “They’re not the sort of people that are content to just hang out in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean,” he says. “Antarctica, the Arctic, the remote Indian Ocean, the remote Pacific Ocean, the Subantarctic islands… that’s where you’re going to find us delivering our services.”

Explorer yachts aren’t the only way scientists can reach those destinations, but demand for dedicated research vessels does outstrip available supply. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), arguably the world’s greatest collector of oceanographic data, has a fleet of  15 research and survey vessels  for the use of its scientists. Academic researchers can also apply to use the fleet, often at a subsidized rate. But scientists request roughly 15,000 to 20,000 days of boat time every year. In 2019, NOAA was able to fill just 2,300 of them, according to an internal study.

That gap is particularly problematic as the planet warms. Oceans provide services that scientists call “ existentially important ,” producing more than  half of the oxygen we breathe  and serving as the world’s  largest carbon sink . They also absorb  30% of our carbon emissions  and  90% of the excess heat generated by them .

G. Mark Miller, a retired NOAA Corps officer who was in charge of several of the agency’s research vessels, has a different solution in mind when it comes to bolstering ocean research: smaller boats, fit for purpose. Superyachts can cost north of $500 million, he says; “why don’t we build a hundred $5 million vessels and flood the ocean science community?” 

After leaving NOAA, Miller in 2021 launched Virginia-based Greenwater Marine Sciences Offshore with a vision of building a global fleet of research vessels and offering their use at affordable prices. He says hiring a NOAA boat can cost scientists between $20,000 and $100,000 per day. GMSO plans to charge less than $10,000 a day for most missions. The company says it’s close to acquiring its first three vessels.

Miller hopes his business model will help scientists conduct the work they need to — particularly in under-served regions like the Asia-Pacific — without worrying about getting a luxury yacht covered in “muddy worms, plankton goo, dead fish [and] whale snot.” He describes yacht owners donating boat time to scientists as “better than nothing,” and says it can help get regular people interested in science and exploration. 

Christopher Walsh, captain of the  Archimedes , says he and his crew love taking part in science initiatives, especially when there’s an educational component. “I get a real thrill when we can stream to the classrooms — you can’t imagine the enthusiasm the kids display,” Walsh says. “That gives me a lot of hope for the future.”

In Despicable Me 4 , the latest installment of Illumination Studio’s popular franchise, Gru (a winning Steve Carell) confronts the subtle villainy of suburban life. There’s something about the charmed aesthetics of Mayflower that doesn’t sit right. Maybe it’s the near-identical cottage-style homes, all painted the same shade of eggshell white and retrofitted with pristine pools; or perhaps it’s the residents, a wealthy and entitled bunch bent on excluding the unfamiliar. Whatever the reason, the vibes are certainly off.

Despicable Me 4 begins with an exciting confrontation (courtesy of slick angles and tense music by composer Heitor Pereira) between Gru and a new villain, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell). The pair’s history goes back to when they were students at Lycee Pas Bon, the premier institution for aspiring bad guys. They meet again at their school reunion, which, no matter the length of your rap sheet, is still fraught with aged tensions, awkward exchanges and not-so-subtle competitive small talk.

At the soirée, Maxime, a cockroach obsessive, unveils his new invention, a device that endows him with qualities of the near-indestructible vermin. Gru, newly reinstated to the Anti-Villain League after the shenanigans of Despicable Me 3 , only attended the reunion to arrest Maxime, which he does after the latter’s dramatic presentation. 

The new identities are a tough sell and some of the most winning moments in Despicable Me 4 detail the family’s attempts to fit into Mayflower. Gru swaps out his signature dark garb and scarf for khakis and pink polo shirts. He’s now a part-time solar power salesman and stay-at-home dad. Lucy becomes a world-class beautician, working in the stuffy salon on Main Street. Margo attends a new junior high school, where popular girl Poppy (an excellent Joey King) reigns supreme. Meanwhile, Agnes and Edith attend a karate program run by a menacing instructor (Brad Ableson). That endeavor makes for some inventive sequences, including a surprisingly high-stakes supermarket chase involving Lucy and the girls. 

The cast delivers engaging voice performances, with Carell and King leading the pack. As Gru, Carell retains the villain’s signature irritability while also touching on the vulnerable enthusiasm of raising his new infant. Trying to bond with Gru Jr., who rejects his paternal affection, becomes top priority for this dad. The other mission is to befriend the country-club family next door, who seemingly want nothing to do with their neighbors. Perry (Stephen Colbert) treats Gru with cutting disdain, and through their interactions the subtle cruelty of this suburb is evident. Patsy (Chloe Fineman) is friendlier, and even invites Gru and Lucy to the country club for drinks and tennis. 

While the Grus adjust to a quiet life, Maxime hunts for them. He and his wife get into their own frenzied adventures, but this part of the narrative feels underdeveloped at times. Maxime plans to abduct Gru Jr. as payback, which is a far cry from the early threats of extermination, but still evil. Running a brisk 95 minutes, Despicable Me 4 doesn’t leave enough time for Maxime to enact his plans in a way that packs an emotional punch.

The fate of the Minions offers some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments and impressively detailed animation. Silas enlists the gaggle of yellow beings to train as the AVL’s top agents. A select group of them undergo an experimental treatment that turns them into super Minions. Their training sequences — both at AVL headquarters and in the city — stick to the tradition of Illumination animators having fun with the Loony Tunes-style bits. They also end up, somewhat ironically, grounding Despicable Me 4 , which can get dizzying with its twists and turns. When in doubt of direction, just trust the Minions.

Final ‘Demon Slayer’ Anime Films to Launch as Theatrical Trilogy

Crunchyroll has acquired “ Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle,” which will debut in theaters globally as a trilogy of films.

The three films will be distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment worldwide, excluding some Asian territories and Japan. No release dates have been disclosed.

The story begins when Kamado Tanjiro, a boy whose family is killed by a demon, joins the Demon Slayer Corps to turn his younger sister Nezuko back into a human after she is transformed into a demon.

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” first premiered in April 2019 with the “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” followed by the feature film “Mugen Train” in October 2020, and the TV series “Mugen Train Arc” and “Entertainment District Arc” from 2021 through 2022. In 2023, the “Swordsmith Village Arc” debuted on Crunchyroll, shortly after the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village” theatrical release.

The latest films – “Mugen Train,” “To the Swordsmith Village” and “To the Hashira Training” – have been both commercial and fan successes. “Mugen Train” currently holds the record as the highest-grossing anime movie of all time and is the highest-grossing Japanese film at the global box office, garnering over $500 million to date. It currently ranks as the second-highest grossing anime film in U.S. box office history.

“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll.

Sony acquired Crunchyroll in 2021 and merged it with its own anime streaming platform Funimation, but chose to retain the Crunchyroll brand and to develop it as a streaming and theatrical player .

Crunchyroll LLC is an independently-operated joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. Ultimately, both are subsidiaries of Tokyo-based Sony Group.

Separately, Sony recently announced that it will launch an academy to further develop anime creative talent.
