Why Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 Never Happened

Despite plenty of potential for a sequel to be made, Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 has never happened, and there are likely a few reasons for this.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is an interesting entry in Activision's flagship series. As the first major cross-gen release for the global juggernaut, this Call of Duty game bridged the gap between the PS3 and PS4 console generations. It was also a bold step forward for Infinity Ward , as it served as the first time in several years that the developer was moving away from the safety of the Modern Warfare brand.

The much-memed fish AI demo did not exactly get fans hyped for Call of Duty: Ghosts , and it did not help that the game was releasing after the beloved Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 . Ultimately, it marked the end of the golden age for the Call of Duty series, as it was not as successful as the games that released from 2007-2012 and served as the start of a rough patch for the series. Each game mode has downsides, meaning there are several reasons why the game never received a sequel.

Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Campaign Was a Step Back

Each core mode of Call of Duty: Ghosts had its flaws, and the campaign’s were perhaps the most obvious. For starters, Infinity Ward had the challenge of getting fans invested in a new universe and fresh cast of characters, which was an uphill battle given the popularity of Modern Warfare and figures like Captain Price . The decision to feature a group called the Ghosts that had no relation to Modern Warfare 2 ’s Simon Riley (aside from a dog whose name was a tribute to the character) was odd, and the silent protagonist Logan proved hard to connect to.

Alongside some stiff voice acting from the members of the Ghosts and a predictable story, the campaign felt like a step back from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 ’s creative singleplayer mode . In that campaign, players could make choices that led to certain characters dying and major scenes playing out differently. Different endings could be acquired, and some side missions were able to be completed in hopes of getting a better conclusion to the story. With Call of Duty: Ghosts , there was no innovation, with a traditional campaign provided instead.

Call of Duty: Ghosts ’ ending was also flawed , as Infinity Ward clearly wanted Ghosts to spark its own subseries. To do this, the developer provided fans with a cliffhanger that did not make much sense at all. Despite being shot at point-blank range with a revolver, Rorke survives, with the villain taking Logan captive to brainwash him and make him a Ghost Killer. This likely would have set up a Logan vs. Hesh campaign if a sequel was released, with the two brothers battling against each other. Rorke surviving has always felt absurd, though, as does the notion that Logan would turn on his family. Ultimately, this cliffhanger felt forced, and fans will likely be left to wonder what happened next forever.

Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Multiplayer Had Some Major Flaws

While there have been some truly great Call of Duty campaigns over the years, multiplayer has and always will be the most important aspect of the series. Unfortunately, Call of Duty: Ghosts ' multiplayer component had some major flaws. A majority of the maps were weak and far too large, which is a death sentence for a Call of Duty game. Stonehaven, for example, was a massive play space that felt hugely unfocused, lacking a three-lane-style and feeling like a massive bit of land where players ran around aimlessly.

Other issues were present in Call of Duty: Ghosts ’ multiplayer, such as how UAVs were used. The SAT COMs were the game's version of UAVs, and they came in the form of easily destructible devices that had to be set on the ground. This killstreak only provided the full UAV effects if multiple were placed on the map at the same time, making a single SAT COM pointless. This ultimately made the streak frustrating to use, with it feeling like an over complication of a classic Call of Duty feature .

There was also the concept of Field Orders, an odd mechanic that rewarded even the most average players with game changing streaks like the KEM strike for doing simple things like teabagging a dead enemy. Some of the rewards were silly, too, like becoming Michael Myers or the Predator . Considering that some players are against overly colorful outfits in a military setting, it is no surprise that this more extreme level of goofiness rubbed a few players the wrong way. Other issues included overpowered weapons like the Honey Badger and an overly gray color palette, with the latter leading to a game that felt like it was lacking personality.

Extinction Was Not What Fans Wanted

Call of Duty: Ghosts ’ Extinction mode was an interesting experiment that did not pay off, though some players do look back on it fondly. The co-op mode saw four gamers coming together to battle aliens known as Cryptids, with the creatures coming in many different forms. Each map played out like a linear mission as opposed to Call of Duty Zombies' round-based style, though this change of pace could be a key part of why the mode did not catch on.

Call of Duty: Ghosts following Black Ops 2 means that it had to live up to that game’s Zombies mode, which is widely regarded as one of the best the series has ever seen. While it got off to a rocky start with TranZit, Mob of the Dead, Buried, and Origins were all beloved maps and helped create a stellar DLC season. Even though Call of Duty: Ghosts was made by Infinity Ward, and non-Treyarch Zombies modes rarely work out, Extinction playing more like Zombies might have helped it find a bit more success. Unfortunately, though the mode was solid and quite replayable due to its Teeth system and different classes, it simply released at the wrong time and failed to maintain a large audience.

Whether it be the poorly timed Extinction mode, the flawed multiplayer, or the by-the-books campaign mode, there are many issues with Call of Duty: Ghosts ' three modes, making for a game that only managed to be decent overall. While some liked it and have become nostalgic for Ghosts over the years, it was far from the series’ best. With only the majorly successful series like Modern Warfare and Black Ops getting sequels , it is no surprise that Call of Duty: Ghosts was a one and done entry.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

The question is will Ghosts 2 be next year or in 2 years? Black Ops 3 next year?

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

oh the horror

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

This is Call of Duty. I think Ghosts 5 and Black Ops 7 are confirmed... smh

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

I'm not surprised...all they have to do is reuse the same textures, add new zebra A.I.,a few new perks, and bring back MW2 quick scoping and they're done. The little kids will still buy into the scheme and the developers know this. It's a poison to developers that always try to be original and creative but CoD's high popularity won't last long next gen. Even if they reshape the engine completely, that new engine will be used in 10 new CoDs. Be intelligent and don't buy into their shit every time, the alternatives are better. My opinion I know, but I rather see developers that put their heart and effort into their creations be supported than developers that bring out almost the same game every year.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Nah, after Ghosts fails to meet Activision's expectations, Treyarch will be forced to rebrand their new game in order to try and make it sound new.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Titanfall is the next Call of Duty that I'm excited for.

It's the successor to MW2 and actually attempts to take the mechanics forward. Kotick is going to regret pissing off the original IW guys that's for sure.

All Call of Duty Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "Call of Duty has to be the most recognizable franchise on the planet. They didn’t get that way by only making a handful of games. COD has a long and storied career. Launching as a PC WW2 first-person shooter, Call of Duty has gone through numerous makeovers and been on just about every system. The series has gone through some serious highs and tragic lows. I’ll be looking at each Call of Duty game, the good the bad, and the ugly."

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Vanguard better be at the fkn bottom. Can’t believe ppl haven’t eviscerated that game with all its lacking

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Yeah, it's close to the bottom. There are a couple of worse ones. Infinite Warfare definitely deserves its place.

There's a number a lot worse than Vangaurd. It's also a lot better than that car crash Treyarch released before it.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

World at War is my favourite. Didn't know the N-Gage had a Call of Duty.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Same for me. I was never huge into Call of Duty, but I sunk a lot of time into WaW. Both the campaign and the multiplayer are on point. Wouldn't mind a remaster. I quit on CoD for a long while. Though I'm the odd man out that actually really enjoyed the campaign for WWII, being I got it through Humble monthly way back when.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

I really enjoyed the Infinite campaign. Multiplayer... not so much.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

I agree, The Infinite campaign feels more like it's own thing that they slapped the CoD name on. If it stood on it's own, (sans the CoD name) I think it could have been it's own scifi franchise. And a damn good looking game, to boot. I never bothered to play the multiplayer.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

MW 2019 apart from the desastrous file sizes is way better than AW.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

And Ghost for that matter.

That was one I grabbed for Playstation because it pretty much just came out during the Redbox purge of videogames, and I got it for dirt cheap. It was great coming home to an update every night, and watching one game eat up almost half my console's memory.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Will get disagrees but Infinite Warfare campaign was really good. Decent story, set pieces were amazing and if it didn't have the CoD game on it I'm sure people would have been more into it. Advanced Warfare was alright too. Titanfall 2 was just 1000 times better than both but I enjoyed them for their campaigns. I literally barely gaf about the story I'm in it for the set pieces and 5 hours of being stoned watching cool nonsense happen if I'm in the mood to play a CoD campaign. If I'm looking for a deep plot I'm gonna go somewhere else. Ghosts was the worst story-wise though lol that cliffhanger ending was so bs. Also MW 2019 was sick and is one of the best CoD games in yeeeears not sure why it's so low on this dude's list. Campaign was great, multiplayer was great and Warzone was fun for a while. Over it now but shrugs. Beat the Vanguard campaign too but I can't even remember a single thing about it other than that it felt like it was 45 minutes long. Might be the most forgettable thing I've ever played lol just fully erased from my brain

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Stopped reading after they put call of duty 2019 modern warfare that far down on the list.

Yeah it's bullshit that they give it this position because of the Kevin Spacey fiasco.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

WaW is my favorite. I didn’t expect to like it that much. Best zombies also.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

For me it was COD: United Offensive expansion. Man that game was so much fun my favorite mode was base assault. It's still being played today 😁

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

COD3 in the top five I can get behind. Best MP of the series. It was well balanced and had some of the best vehicles in the series and maps.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

imo: COD/MW/BO/WAW have got worse with every release, more broken on release, and even more broken with every patch... Vanguard is a classic example of this... series broken even more due to its intergration / connection to warzone, the two should have never been linked together and kept separate...

Ray Tracing in Monster Hunter World, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Watch_Dogs 2, COD: Ghosts & more

DSOGaming writes: "YouTube’s members Benchmark PC Tech, Jose cangrejo, WillTalksTech, Zetman and MissinInAction have published some videos, showing Monster Hunter World, Black Mesa Xen, Watch_Dogs 2, Call of Duty Ghosts, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, The Sinking City, Remember Me, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Dishonored 2 with the ray tracing/path tracing effects that Pascal Gilcher’s Reshade mod introduces."

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Wore implementation I've ever seen,.. guess it just does not work all that great on every engine

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Agree, but this gives me hope that one day Ray Tracing can be a software based feature and not require some type of proprietary hardware to achieve. Software will always outpace Hardware so it could happen, but I feel like its going to take a lot more time to achieve the same level that RTX has already shown glimpses of so far. Really just waiting for Cyberpunk to see if RTX is actually something viable. I think if anybody can truly showcase RTX Features it would be Projekt Red.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Too bad it doesn't make Mankind Divided a better game.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

It doesn't need to, the game was already fantastic, imo.

Human Revolution was a better game and not to mention longer.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Reshade is not raytracing, its a screen space post processing effect. Thats like calling SSAO "global illumination"

The battle expands as Season 1 Reloaded arrives for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III and Call of Duty®: Warzone™ . The mid-season update brings an all-new 6v6 Multiplayer map and game modes, plus the introduction of Multiplayer Ranked Play. Take on the Champion’s Quest and a new Gulag Public Event in Call of Duty: Warzone and battle a new Warlord in Zombies.

Alongside two new weapons, The Boys limited time Multiplayer mode and Event Challenge, there’s plenty to look forward to when Season 1 Reloaded launches on January 17 at 9AM PT across all platforms.

Expect Patch Notes from Sledgehammer Games to be available prior to the release of Season 1 Reloaded.

Here’s what’s coming:

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

  • New 6v6 Multiplayer Map. Deploy to Rio, a new Core map that challenges Operators to a street fight in an upscale shopping center.
  • Introducing Team Gunfight, Infected, Headquarters. Compete across three new Multiplayer modes.
  • The Boys LTM and Challenge Event. Experience a Supe’d Up version of Kill Confirmed featuring power boosts and earn in-game rewards for completing tasks in The Boys: Supe Siege Event Challenge.
  • Multiplayer Ranked Play. Fight like the pros and rise through the Ranks and Skill Divisions in 4v4 competitive play featuring the same ruleset used by the Call of Duty League.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Rio (6v6): Deploy to an upscale shopping center in Rio de Janeiro in a new medium-sized 6v6 Multiplayer map featuring a central indoor mall surrounded by Main Street, a tram station, a market, a plaza and café, and residential spaces. Use the covered walkway to get above your enemies or take cover near an armored vehicle when fighting on street level. The mall itself rises toward the middle, so watch for enemies playing king of the hill on approach.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Team Gunfight: Experience Gunfight on a larger scale. In this version, players compete in 6v6 across standard Multiplayer maps. As with traditional Gunfight, all players will receive the same randomized Loadout at the start of each round. This Loadout changes throughout the match. Adapt to what you’re given and wipe out the competition.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Headquarters: Secure the Headquarters objective and hold the position as long as possible to accrue points. Dig in tight, as respawns are disabled for the defending team. The objective rotates around the map throughout the match, so be ready to change your position on the fly.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Infected: Begin the match with one player randomly assigned as the starting infected. The infected player’s goal is to eliminate and transform all the other players into infected Operators who then join their side, while the remaining survivors must use their best skills and strategies to keep the infected at bay.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Compete in a new Supe’d Up version of Kill Confirmed inspired by the hit TV series The Boys . In this twist on the classic mode, fallen Operators drop doses of Temp V, giving temporary power boosts like Heat Vision to those who swoop in to collect them.

The Boys: Supe Siege

Prove that you belong with the Supes by completing six challenges in The Boys: Supe Siege Event Challenge. The challenges are as follows:

  • Get one Operator Heat Vision elimination in The Boys mode (Reward: Calling Card).
  • Deactivate 20 pieces of Equipment using DDoS (Reward: Emblem).
  • Get four Operator eliminations using the MTZ-762 (Reward: Battle Pass Tier Skip).
  • Get two Operator eliminations in a single life with the Overkill Vest equipped, five times (Reward: Large Decal).
  • Get 15 Operator Akimbo eliminations (Reward: Weapon Charm).
  • Get seven Operator eliminations using Lethal Equipment (Reward: Double XP Token).

Mastery Reward: Complete all six challenges to earn “The Boys Special” LMG Weapon Blueprint featuring four attachments, equipped with a whopping 150-round drum and incendiary ammunition for aggressive suppressive fire.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Season 1 Reloaded introduces Multiplayer Ranked Play to Modern Warfare III . Play like the pros in competitive 4v4 matches using the same settings, maps, and modes as the Call of Duty League (CDL).

Ranked Play becomes available after players reach at least Level 55. All unrestricted gameplay items are unlocked for use in Ranked Play, regardless of how much you’ve previously unlocked. Some weapons, Killstreaks, Equipment, and gameplay content are restricted in Ranked Play to match CDL competitive rules. And watch your aim! Friendly Fire is enabled in all Ranked Play matches.

Rank: You will begin at Rank 1. Your rank represents your Ranked Career. Win matches to earn stars and rank up. Rank is permanent and persists across seasons.

Skill Division: You will start your first Season in Bronze I. Advance through 8 Skill Divisions and Tiers by earning SR (Skill Rating). SR is awarded when you win based on personal and team performance. In subsequent seasons, you will be dropped back three Tiers. The highest Skill Division you can start a new season in is Diamond I.

Note that SR penalties will result from being inactive, disconnecting from matches, and engaging in repeated friendly fire.

Hot Streak: Win three matches in a row to earn a flaming rank. Continue winning to progress the Hot Streak flames. The flames expire if you lose or after 72 hours.

Ranked Play Maps and Modes

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

  • Attempt the Champion’s Quest. Achieve Champion’s Domination by completing a brand-new quest for Urzikstan. Attempt this multi-part challenge to instigate a devastating end game.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

The infamous Champion’s Quest makes its debut in Urzikstan, challenging players with a new high-level task that will test all your squad’s collective skills in an attempt to witness an extremely explosive finale. The first step? Win 30 games total within a season OR five consecutive matches. Complete that and the next steps will fall into place. Only the most elite squads need apply.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

In this new Gulag Public Event, the lights in the Gulag will go out, setting up an epic night-vision skirmish that will put your fighting abilities to the test. Secure the win to return to the match and leave your opponent in the dark.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

A single Weapon Case spawns in a small search area at the start of every match. Once found, the player holding the Weapon Case is marked for all enemies in the match. If a player holding the case manages to stay alive at the end of the match OR their squad exits the match using a helicopter called in by purchasing a Covert Exfil, they and their teammates earn exclusive rewards.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Speaking of Covert Exfil, players can now exfil the match early with the help of a Covert Exfil. With only five exfils available to purchase per match — for a high price — in Buy Stations before the Gulag closes, a Covert Exfil calls in a helicopter that can fly any player out of the match, ideally with the Weapon Case in their possession. Players can also compete to earn the most successful Covert Exfils with the new Covert Exfil leaderboard stat.

Call of Duty: Ghosts announcement trailer is heavy on historical cosplay, light on information

Ghosts Cover

There are those who put out trailers to demonstrate gameplay. There are those who put out trailers to show off flashy CGI. And there are those who put out trailers of live action roleplayers to get us excited about a logo. Guess which first teaser for Call of Duty: Ghosts—confirmed for a simultaneous console and PC release on November 5—is an attempt at.

Ghosts, the first CoD entry to get its own, new subtitle since 2010's Black Ops, is under development at Infinity Ward, and has been described as a "spinoff" of the Modern Warfare storyline. In case you missed it, we made some daring predictions back when the title was leaked. There's also a cryptic teaser site you can check out.

Word is that pre-orders are now available. We haven't seen Ghosts pop up on any of the major PC digital distribution services yet—just GameStop so far—but we'll keep an eye out.

Three’s a Cloud: New Activision and Blizzard Games, Day Passes, G-SYNC Technology Coming to GeForce NOW

NVIDIA is bringing more games, membership options and innovative tech to its GeForce NOW cloud gaming service.

The next Activision and Blizzard titles to join the cloud, Diablo IV and Overwatch 2, will be coming soon. They’ll be joined by a host of top titles, including Capcom’s Exoprimal, HoYoverse’s Honkai: Star Rail and Mainframe Industries’ Pax Dei.

Available starting in February, new day passes for Ultimate and Priority memberships will offer full premium benefits one day at a time.

NVIDIA is also bringing G-SYNC technology to the cloud, raising cloud streaming performance while lowering latency and minimizing stuttering for the smoothest gameplay. Paired with new 60 and 120 fps streaming options for GFN Reflex mode, the two together make cloud gaming experiences nearly indistinguishable from local ones.

Plus, mobile gamers are getting a boost to 1440p resolution on Android phones. And Japan is the newest region to be operated by NVIDIA, which will soon enable gamers across the country to play their favorite PC games in the cloud with Ultimate performance.

Here Come the Games

The GeForce NOW catalog features many of the most popular PC games — over 1,800 titles from Steam, Xbox and supported PC Game Pass titles, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft, GOG.com and other digital stores. Backed by up to GeForce RTX 4080 GPU-class graphics, GeForce NOW is bringing even more top titles to the cloud from celebrated publishers.

The latest games from top developer Blizzard Entertainment — Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 — are coming soon to GeForce NOW. They join the recent release of Call of Duty , the first Activision game in the cloud, as part of a 10-year NVIDIA and Microsoft partnership .

Diablo IV coming soon to GeForce NOW

Fight the forces of hell while discovering countless abilities to master, legendary loot to gather and nightmarish dungeons full of evil enemies to vanquish in Diablo IV. Experience the campaign solo or with friends in a shared open world as the dark, gripping story unfolds.

Overwatch 2 coming soon to GeForce NOW

Team up and answer the call of heroes in Overwatch 2 , a free-to-play shooter featuring 30+ epic heroes, each with game-changing abilities. Join the battle across dozens of futuristic maps inspired by real-world locations and master unique game modes in the always-on, ever-evolving, live game.

Members will soon be able to stream the Steam versions of Diablo IV and Overwatch 2 on nearly any device with the power of a GeForce RTX 4080 rig in the cloud, with support for the Battle.net launcher to follow.

Honkai Star Rail coming soon to GeForce NOW

GeForce NOW also brings top role-playing games to the cloud. The immensely popular Honkai: Star Rail from HoYoverse will join Genshin Impact coming soon in the cloud. The space-fantasy RPG is set in a diverse universe filled with wonder, adventure and thrills, and expands the library of hit free-to-play titles for members. Plus, members can experience all the latest updates without worrying about download times.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Top publisher Capcom is working with NVIDIA to bring more of its hit titles to the cloud, including Exoprimal , an online, team-based action game that pits humanity’s cutting-edge exosuit technology against history’s most ferocious beasts: dinosaurs. Look forward to seeing it in the cloud on Jan. 18.

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

Mainframe Industries’ Pax Dei is a highly anticipated social sandbox massively multiplayer online game inspired by legends of the medieval era. It’s planned to release on GeForce NOW when it launches for PC.

Get ready to play these titles and more at high performance coming soon. Ultimate members will be able to stream at up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second with support for NVIDIA DLSS and Reflex technology, and experience the action even on low-powered devices. Keep an eye out on GFN Thursdays for the latest on their release dates in the cloud.

Don’t Pass This Up

Day Passes, available in early February, will give gamers a fast pass to try out premium membership benefits before committing to one- or six-month memberships that offer better value. The passes provide access to all the same features as Priority and Ultimate members for 24 hours.

Day Pass users can experience RTX ON for supported games with Priority and Ultimate Day Passes. And Ultimate Day Pass users gain exclusive access to innovative technologies like NVIDIA DLSS 3.5, full ray tracing and NVIDIA Reflex.

CES 2024 GeForce NOW

These new membership options let gamers freely choose when to tap into the cloud.

The Ultimate Day Pass will be available for $7.99 and the Priority Day Pass for $3.99. The 24 hours of continuous play will begin at purchase. Day Passes can be combined for continued access to GeForce NOW high-performance cloud streaming.

Let That Sync In

NVIDIA continues to push the boundaries for cloud gaming. The Ultimate membership tier introduced many cloud gaming firsts, from 240 fps to ultra-wide streaming, making gameplay with GeForce NOW — streaming from GeForce RTX 4080-powered servers — nearly identical to a local gaming experience.

Cloud GSYNC coming to GeForce NOW

Coming soon, cloud G-SYNC technology will raise the bar even further, minimizing stutter and latency, with support for variable refresh rate monitors and fully optimized for G-SYNC-compatible monitors . With Cloud G-SYNC enabled, GeForce NOW will vary the display’s refresh rates to match the streaming rate, for the smoothest gameplay experience available from the cloud.

Ultimate members can also soon take advantage of expanded NVIDIA Reflex support in supported titles.  Building off of 240fps 1080p streaming from last year, Ultimate members will soon be able to utilize Reflex in supported titles at up to 4K resolution and 60 or 120 fps streaming modes, for low-latency gaming on nearly any device.  NVIDIA Reflex support is available in the top PC games on GeForce NOW, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Cyberpunk 2077, Diablo IV, Overwatch 2, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,   Alan Wake 2 and more.

With both Cloud G-SYNC and Reflex, members will feel as if they’re connected directly to GeForce NOW’s RTX 4080 SuperPODs, making their visual experiences smoother, clearer and more immersive than ever.

Mobile Phones Are Now PC Gaming Rigs

Mobile gamers will soon have the option to set streaming resolution to 1440p on Android devices, providing richer graphics on larger screens. Members will be able to turn an Android device into a portable gaming rig with support for quad-high-definition resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels), as well as improved keyboard and mouse support.

This offers a glimpse into the future of game streaming, with external displays connected to a mobile device. Using a USB-C docking station, gamers can connect an Android phone to a 1080p or 1440p gaming monitor or TV, with a keyboard and mouse or gamepad.

Paired with a GeForce NOW Ultimate membership, Android phones become portable gaming rigs on which to play the latest triple-A PC games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 , The Finals and Monster Hunter: World . Now anything, even a phone, can be a high-performance gaming rig.

Up to 1440p for Android devices on GeForce NOW

The above was on display this week at the CES trade show. The demo streams Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 from GeForce NOW servers in Los Angeles to a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra phone connected to a 1440p monitor in Las Vegas.

Clouds in Japan

GeForce NOW Exppansion

NVIDIA will begin operating GeForce NOW in Japan in the spring, operating alongside GeForce NOW Alliance partner KDDI.

Gamers in the region can look forward to Ultimate memberships for the first time, along with all the new games and advancements announced at CES. Visit the page to learn more and sign up for notifications.

With a steady drumbeat of quality games from top publishers, new membership options and the latest NVIDIA technology in the cloud, GeForce NOW is poised to bring another ultimate year of gaming to members.

About This Game

  • Ten years after a devastating mass event, America’s borders and the balance of global power have changed forever. As what's left of the nation's Special Operations forces, a mysterious group known only as "Ghosts" leads the fight back against a newly emerged, technologically-superior global power.
  • A New Call of Duty Universe: For the first time in franchise history, players will take on the underdog role with Call of Duty: Ghosts; outnumbered and outgunned, players must fight to reclaim a fallen nation in an intensely personal narrative. Gamers will get to know an entirely new cast of characters and visit locales in a changed world unlike anything seen in Call of Duty® before.
  • In Call of Duty: Ghosts you don't just create a class, you create a soldier, a first for the franchise. In the new Create-A-Soldier system, players can change the physical appearance of their soldier by choosing the head, body type, head-gear and equipment, and for the first time in a Call of Duty® game, the player can also choose their gender. With 20,000 possible combinations, this is the most flexible and comprehensive character customization in Call of Duty history.
  • New dynamic maps are the evolution of multiplayer. They include interactive elements and player triggered events that make the environment evolve as each match goes on. The entire landscape can shift and force players to change tactics and strategies.
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts introduces new tactical player movements. The new contextual lean system now allows players to lean around obstacles without adding button combinations or fully leaving cover. The new mantling system allows fluid movement over objects, while maintaining momentum. The knee slide allows for a natural transition from sprinting crouching to prone.
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts delivers over 20 NEW Kill Streaks such as Juggernaut Maniac, the Helo Scout, the Vulture and the ODIN Strike. Players can even bring in guard dog Riley, from the single-player campaign, to protect and also to attack enemies. There are also over 30 NEW weapons, including an entirely new weapon class: Marksman Rifles.
  • Build your team and take up to 6 of them into battle in the all new Squads mode. This mode takes the best parts of the multiplayer experience and allows you to play either solo or cooperatively with the custom soldiers created and leveled up in multiplayer.
  • The load-out choices you make for your Squad members will directly change the AI behavior of your squad-mates. Give your soldier a sniper rifle and he'll behave like a sniper, and an SMG guy will be more run and gun.

MWIII-S1R-ANNOUNCEMENT-005.jpg

Infected: Begin the match with one player randomly assigned as the starting infected. Clutch Up! Multiplayer Ranked Play Is Here

MWIII-S1R-ANNOUNCEMENT-007.jpg

MWIII-S1R-ANNOUNCEMENT-008.jpg

MWIII-S1R-ANNOUNCEMENT-012.jpg

The infamous Champion’s Quest makes its debut in Urzikstan, challenging players with a new high-level task that will test all your squad’s collective skills in an attempt to witness an explosive finale. The first step? Win 30 games total within a season OR five consecutive matches. Complete that and the next steps will fall into place. Only the most elite squads need apply.

In this new Gulag Public Event, the lights in the Gulag will go out, setting up an epic night-vision battle that will put your fighting abilities to the test. Secure the win to return to the match and leave your opponent in the dark.

Gear Up with the Weapon Case

MWIII-S1R-ANNOUNCEMENT-014.jpg

A single Weapon Case spawns in a small search area at the start of every match. Once found, the player holding the Weapon Case is marked for all enemies in the match. If a player holding the case manages to stay alive at the end of the match OR their squad exits the match using a helicopter called in by purchasing a Covert Exfil, they and their teammates earn exclusive rewards.

Secondary Win Condition: Covert Exfil

MWIII-S1R-ANNOUNCEMENT-015.jpg

Speaking of Covert Exfil, players can now exfil the match early with the help of a Covert Exfil. With only five exfils available to purchase per match — for a high price — in Buy Stations before the Gulag closes, a Covert Exfil calls in a helicopter that can fly any player out of the match, ideally with the Weapon Case in their possession. Players can also compete to earn the most successful Covert Exfils with the new Covert Exfil leaderboard stat.

Call of Duty Ghosts was released in 2013 and became one of the most successful titles in the franchise’s history. Since then, fans have been eagerly anticipating the release of a sequel. While there has been no official announcement regarding Call of Duty Ghosts 2, there have been numerous rumors and speculations circulating in the gaming community.

One of the most prominent rumors suggests that Call of Duty Ghosts 2 is in development and is set to be released in the near future. According to some sources, the game will feature a brand new storyline, improved graphics, and innovative gameplay mechanics. It is believed that the developers are taking their time to ensure that the sequel lives up to the high expectations set by its predecessor.

Another rumor suggests that Call of Duty Ghosts 2 will feature a battle royale mode, similar to popular games like Fortnite and Apex Legends. This would be a major departure from the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience, but it could attract a new audience and breathe new life into the franchise.

While these rumors are exciting, it’s important to take them with a grain of salt. Until there is an official announcement from the developers, it’s impossible to say for certain whether Call of Duty Ghosts 2 is in the works. However, considering the success of the first game and the demand from fans, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a sequel in the future.

Will there be Call of Duty Ghosts 2?

Call of Duty fans have been eagerly awaiting news about the possibility of a sequel to the popular game, Call of Duty Ghosts. Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, Call of Duty Ghosts was released in 2013 and received positive reviews from critics and players alike.

Since the release of Call of Duty Ghosts, there have been several installments in the Call of Duty franchise, including Advanced Warfare, Black Ops III, Infinite Warfare, and World War II. Each game brought new stories, gameplay mechanics, and multiplayer experiences, leaving fans wondering if there would ever be a continuation of the Ghosts storyline.

So far, there has been no official announcement regarding Call of Duty Ghosts 2. Activision has remained tight-lipped about the possibility of a sequel, keeping fans in suspense. However, rumors and speculation have been swirling within the gaming community.

Some rumors suggest that Infinity Ward, the original developers of Call of Duty Ghosts, may be working on a sequel behind closed doors. Others believe that the success of the original Ghosts game may warrant a sequel, as it was one of the best-selling titles in the Call of Duty franchise.

Despite the lack of official information, fans continue to express their interest and support for a sequel. Many are eager to see the return of characters like Captain Elias Walker and Logan Walker, as well as the continuation of the intriguing storyline introduced in Call of Duty Ghosts.

Only time will tell if there will indeed be a Call of Duty Ghosts 2. Until then, fans can only hope and speculate about the future of the Ghosts franchise. In the meantime, they can enjoy the other exciting Call of Duty games available and keep an eye out for any updates or announcements from Activision and Infinity Ward.

The latest updates

As of the latest updates, there have been several rumors surrounding the possibility of a Call of Duty Ghosts 2. However, there is no official confirmation from Activision, the publisher of the Call of Duty franchise.

Some sources claim that development for Call of Duty Ghosts 2 has already started, while others suggest that the game might not be in production at all. It is important to note that these are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt.

One of the reasons for the uncertainty surrounding Call of Duty Ghosts 2 is the mixed reception of the first game. While it was a commercial success, some players found the story and gameplay lacking compared to previous installments in the series.

Activision has been focusing on other Call of Duty titles, such as Modern Warfare and Warzone, which have gained a significant player base. This has led to speculation that the company might be putting the Ghosts franchise on hold.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether or not there will be a Call of Duty Ghosts 2. Until there is an official announcement from Activision, fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for the Ghosts series.

Possible release date

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding the release date of Call of Duty Ghosts 2. However, there have been several rumors and speculations circulating on the internet. Some industry insiders suggest that the game could be released sometime in late 2022 or early 2023.

It is important to note that these dates are purely speculative and should be taken with a grain of salt. The developers at Activision have been known to keep their release dates tightly under wraps until they are ready to make an official announcement.

Fans of the first Call of Duty Ghosts game have been eagerly anticipating a sequel, and there is no doubt that the developers are aware of the demand. With the success of the original game, it would not be surprising to see a sequel in the near future. However, until an official announcement is made, fans will have to continue to wait patiently for any updates.

It is advisable to keep an eye on official Call of Duty social media accounts, as well as gaming news websites, for any potential updates or announcements regarding Call of Duty Ghosts 2 and its release date.

However, based on speculations and rumors, it is expected that the game will continue the story from the first Call of Duty Ghosts and build upon the events that transpired.

In the first game, players were introduced to the Ghosts, an elite group of soldiers fighting against a global superpower known as the Federation. The game was set in a near-future where the United States had fallen under attack, and the Ghosts were the last line of defense.

It is speculated that Call of Duty Ghosts 2 may continue the conflict between the Ghosts and the Federation, or introduce a new enemy that threatens global stability. The game could potentially explore new locations and environments, allowing players to experience a variety of settings from urban warfare to intense jungle combat.

Additionally, it is possible that the sequel could delve deeper into the backstory of the Ghosts and provide more insight into their origins and motivations. This could involve exploring the characters’ personal lives and relationships, as well as their training and development as elite soldiers.

Overall, while the exact storyline and setting of Call of Duty Ghosts 2 are uncertain, fans of the series can anticipate an action-packed, intense, and immersive experience, similar to what the franchise is known for.

Involvement of previous game characters

Involvement of previous game characters

One of the rumors surrounding Call of Duty Ghosts 2 is the possible involvement of previous game characters. Many fans are speculating that some of the beloved characters from the original Call of Duty Ghosts will make a return in the sequel.

Simon “Ghost” Riley , the iconic character from the original game, is one of the most anticipated returns. With his mysterious past and stoic personality, Ghost became a fan favorite. Players are hoping to see him again in Call of Duty Ghosts 2, potentially shedding more light on his backstory.

Another character that players are excited to potentially see in the sequel is Thomas A. Merrick . As the leader of the Ghosts, Merrick played a significant role in the original game’s storyline. His tactical prowess and leadership skills made him an essential part of the team. Fans are eager to see if he will be involved in the upcoming game.

Call of Duty Ghosts 2 may also introduce new characters who will interact with the old ones, creating an exciting dynamic. The developers have not confirmed any of these rumors, but the speculation has sparked a lot of excitement among fans.

CoD: Warzone Introducing New Covert Exfil Feature That Some Feel Makes It Even Less of a Battle Royale

A huge update that has the community perplexed..

Kat Bailey Avatar

Call of Duty: Warzone is introducing a feature, one that has the community feeling a bit perplexed about the overall direction of Activision's flagship battle royale amid questions about whether or not it will actually be a win condition.

Called "Covert Exfil," the new ability will allow players to escape the map early and will include its own leaderboard. Here's the description on the official Call of Duty blog .

It's a significant addition, and it has some fans saying that it makes Call of Duty: Warzone even less of a battle royale. Many are comparing it to the extraction shooter genre, which has recently grown in popularity thanks to the success of Escape from Tarkhov and other games like it.

Do you think Covert Exfil is a good addition to Warzone?

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

"Doesn’t that completely destroy the point of [battle royale?]," wrote one fan on Twitter. "That’s what DMZ is for."

Some fans worried that matches would end prematurely because "one guy ordered a helicopter to take him away early." Raven Software said in a separate statement that it would not be a win condition and that it would not count toward Champion's Quest progress.

"With the #Warzone Season 1 Reloaded update next week, we'll be introducing Covert Exfil — a challenging new way to escape the match that provides players with one of two methods to secure the Weapon Case!" Raven Software wrote on X/Twitter. "Successfully extracting via Covert Exfil does not count as a traditional win — rather as a separate stat — and will not count towards Champion's Quest progress. More details and design intent will be provided in the patch notes next week!"

Curiously, Raven's statement contradicts its own blog post, which does describe it as "a new win condition." Reached for comment, an official Activision spokesperson reiterated Raven's statement but didn't provide any additional information.

One way or another, many fans don't seem to keen on the new feature, with one writing on X/Twitter "begging" Activision to make it a limited-time mode . "I understand you guys want to keep innovating to keep things fresh, but this isn’t it," they wrote. Numerous fans chimed in to agree.

The new win condition (or "challenging new way to escape") is part of the Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 reloaded content drop, which will also include a Gulag Night Vision Public Event, a brand-new quest in Urzikstan, and a new Weapon Case objective that will see players "battle over a single Weapon Case hidden in a search area at the start of every match to spice up the early game."

Call of Duty: Warzone launched its Urzikstan map back in December .

10 Best-Selling Call Of Duty Games

Posted: December 4, 2023 | Last updated: December 4, 2023

  • The Call of Duty franchise is the best-selling first-person shooter video game series, with over 400 million games sold.
  • The most successful games in the franchise include Black Ops , Modern Warfare , and Black Ops Cold War , each selling over 30 million copies.
  • The popularity of the Call of Duty series is attributed to its diverse gameplay modes, compelling storylines, and iconic moments that resonate with fans.

The Call of Duty franchise has been ingrained in popular discourse since its inception in 2003, and it has produced one of the most devoted and diehard fan bases in the entire gaming community. The Call of Duty franchise earned a place in the Guinness World Records in April 2021 as the best-selling first-person shooter video game series, with over 400 million games sold at that time. In the years since that achievement, sales numbers have continued to grow, and the enjoyment that players have for the series remains.

The series as a whole has enjoyed quite a bit of success, with each separate title seeing its own varying levels of triumph. COD currently has 20 games in its main series lineup, with an astonishing 51 titles when all DLC and mobile games are added to that list, as of November 2023. Each game with COD in its title has sold many copies for various platforms. Here are the top-selling games in the franchise, with the most recent data available at the time of writing.

"Warfare That Feels Dated" - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Review

Call of duty: wwii (2017), over 19 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: WWII was released on Nov. 3, 2017, and is the second title to be set in World War II, following World at War in 2008. This game had all the standard game modes that fans usually enjoy, like a campaign and multiplayer online. It also had a rendition of Nazi zombies with an intricate plot that was more than just surviving as many rounds as possible. As of October 2019, the game had sold 19.82 million copies (per Statista ); a number which has most certainly risen in the last few years.

Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare (2014)

Over 21 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was released on Nov. 4, 2014, as the 11th major installment in the video game franchise. As of October 2019, the game had sold 21.78 million copies. One difference about this game was its campaign only had one playable character, as opposed to previous games that would weave their story around multiple playable characters. This appealed to some players who wanted a more linear story.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009)

Over 25 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 is one of the most popular first-person shooter games ever . It was officially released on Nov. 10, 2009, and gave fans some of the most iconic moments in the franchise. The campaign was loved, as Ghost's death is still one of the most heart-wrenching movements in gaming history. The thought and effort that went into the story of the campaign was appreciated by fans, which was shown in the sale numbers.

Call Of Duty: Which MW2 Is Actually Better

It also gave fans iconic maps like Terminal and Rust. It is still up for debate whether the 2022 remake is as good as the original, but both are unconditionally loved by the fan base. As of October 2019, 25.02 copies of the 2009 game have been sold.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops III (2015)

Over 26 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III was released on Nov. 5, 2015, as the 12th major release in the history of the franchise. One of the biggest draws to this game was the fact that the campaign was able to be played as a co-op. So, friends can complete the campaign missions together, which helped contribute to its sales.

There is a mode that players can unlock that replaces all the enemies in the campaign with zombies, which is the first time this was ever done. Although certain achievements are difficult to unlock, fans of the previous Black Ops installments were overall pleased with this game. In 2019, a reported 26.72 copies of CoD: Black Ops 3 had been sold.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts (2013)

Over 28 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is the 10th major installment in the series and was officially released on Nov. 5, 2013. Ghosts came right after the very popular Black Ops II, so fans were primed to buy anything Call of Duty released at the time of Ghosts launch. That game introduced some new concepts, like being able to play as a German Shepherd in the campaign, but fans were also slightly disappointed with its recycled use of the campaign's format and structure.

Ghosts did advertise a new game mode called Extinction , which saw the player fight alien creatures and most likely helped drive up sales. By 2019, CoD: Ghosts had reported 28.8 million sales, only slightly less than Black Ops 2 .

Call Of Duty: Black Ops II (2012)

Over 29 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II serves as one of the most successful sequels in the series. It was released on Nov. 12, 2012, and was nearly as successful as the first Black Ops game. Fans got to play the same two protagonists as had appeared in the first Black Ops , as well as the son of one of the playable characters. Black Ops 2 was the first Call of Duty game for the Nintendo Wii U, which helped sales a bit, but the game was primarily played on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. As of 2019, CoD: Black Ops II had seen 29.59 million copies sold.

Will Call Of Duty Still Be Available On PlayStation?

Call of duty: black ops cold war (2020), over 30 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was released on Nov. 13, 2020, as the 17th major installment of the franchise. Black Ops is the most popular series in Call of Duty, so anything under that title had a good start simply due to its heritage. The setting of the game took place between Black Ops and Black Ops II , which prompted excitement about discovering what went on between two of the franchise's most popular games.

It is also interesting that perhaps the pandemic, and the fact that people were spending more time at home, could have increased sales. The biggest attribute to this game's sales, however, was the fact that Warzone was attached to it, so players could launch the battle royale from Cold War.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

The franchise decided to remaster one of its series as it re-released Modern Warfare on Oct. 25, 2019. It is the 16th overall installment, and a remaster of the original game of the same name from 2007. Call of Duty remastered the game in 2016 but officially released a new v

ersion in 2019. The game featured the same cast of beloved characters from the original game, like Captain John Price, and a tease at the end of the campaign revealing Soap and Ghost, signifying that there was going to be a sequel, which helped drive up sales.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011)

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 rounded out the Modern Warfare trilogy when it was released on Nov. 8, 2011. The main sales pitch for this game was to draw up excitement for how the story ended. Makarov was one of the biggest villains in the whole franchise, which helped stir up anticipation for the rest of the story. The game also includes the Special Ops game mode, which had been introduced in Modern Warfare 2. This was a big draw as players could now complete missions solo or with a friend.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops (2010)

Over 31 million copies sold.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is the best-selling game in the franchise and was released on Nov. 10, 2010. The game technically serves as a sequel to World at War, which can help explain why it sold so well. It also had the zombies game mode for the first time since its originator. Black Ops was the first time fans were introduced to the map Nuketown, which has had several versions since its inception and is one of the most popular in the franchise. Black Ops went on to spark one of the most beloved series in the Call of Duty franchise and Activision gained unwavering support from the fan base after the success of this game.

Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 Rumoured Release Date Leaked

Call of Duty Ghost 2

A rumour has arisen about the release date of the upcoming game in the Call of Duty series, after a reader of a UK gaming magazine noticed Ghosts 2 was being slated to have a November 2016 release date.

The mention of the release date was found by eagle-eyed reader Mari Fernett, who told FragHero.com about the leak, which she found in the February edition of Games TM magazine.

The release date was spotted in a section of the magazine which detailed Games TM’s most anticipated games of 2016. The article included games such as FIFA 17, Battlefield 5 and Call of Duty: Ghosts 2.

Games TM’s article suggested that Ghosts 2 will have a reasonable amount of work to do for the game to surpass its predecessor, Ghosts, which the article described as “solid, yet unspectacular.” With a three year-development period between the games, developer Infinity War will need to bring out the “same creative spark” that made Modern Warfare a smash-hit, Games TM said.

Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 was officially announced by Infinity Ward and the series’ publisher Activision on 11th February, both in an investors call and on the developer’s official Twitter account.

Considering the fact that almost every single main game in the Call of Duty series has been released during November, in time for the Christmas and Black Friday sales periods, it was already pretty much a given that the latest game in the series would be released at a similar time of year.

However, as there has not been any official confirmation of the release date, it may still turn out to be at a different date. Games TM magazine may have made the assumption that the game would be released at that period. FragHero.com noted that the inclusion of the November 2016 date might have been an editorial oversight.

Neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has commented on the leak. A solid release date will be announced by the two parties officially at a later date.

Report: Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 Leaked By U.K Magazine, Release Date Confirmed

call of duty ghosts 2 announcement

The next Call of Duty title is going to be Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 and it is due for release in November 2016. Well, that is if this article by a U.K magazine is to be taken seriously.

If you think of it though, it all adds up. Fraghero was sent this scanned copy of the image by a reader going by the name  Mari Fernett . Upon request, Mari was happy to speak with us and told us the magazine in question is the February issue of Games TM and the game was mentioned under a feature called “2016 Most Wanted Games”.

Call of Duty: Ghosts 2

As you can see, the author of the article mentions Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 among the most anticipated games for 2016 and says that Infinity Ward needs to really step up its game if it is to reach the level it did with the Modern Warfare games.

Now, let’s go back a bit. Considering the issue is of February, it went to print sometime in January this year and the article must have been written even earlier. We assume around mid-Jan.

Games TM

As we all know Activision actually confirmed that the next Call of Duty was being made by Infinity Ward on February 11 during an investors call, the developers of the Modern Warfare games as well as Call of Duty: Ghosts .

When creative strategist Robert Bowling exited Infinity Ward in 2012, he put the departure down to the studio doing “too much ‘pew pew’ not enough new new.” We got a look at what he meant with the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts – a solid, yet unspectacular next-gen debut for the franchise. Infinity Ward will have had three years to work on a follow up, and it needs to showcase the same creative spark that once put in on the map with Modern Warfare back in ’08 if it wants any chance of standing shoulder to shoulder with Sledgehammer and Treyyarch.

Interestingly, the same article also mentions a new Need for Speed game, Battlefield 5 ( a leak suggested it was set in World War 1 ) and Destiny 2. Although it doesn’t give out any new details. It marks Destiny 2 to be released near the end of 2016 though.

Whatever it is, this certainly suggests that the game Infinity Ward is working on right now is a sequel to Call of Duty: Ghosts. The ending of Ghost also hinted towards a sequel and we might be getting one this year.

The release date also fits in line with the annual Call of Duty release schedule so it is safe to assume Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 will be releasing in November 2016.

It will be interesting to see how Infinity Ward carries the series forward and when an official announcement would be made.

We’ve tried to reach out to both Activision and Infinity Ward regarding this story and would update it if either of them chooses to respond.
