Azimut Atlantis 50 foot yacht interior design

A yacht is really just a luxury floating home . When you’re talking 70 feet and larger, they’re a lot nicer than my house. As you’ll see in the luxury yacht interiors below, the quality and aesthetics are simply gorgeous. And we merely feature a small handful of such boats. There are thousands and thousands of these worldwide.

Our epic yacht interiors article is split into 5 galleries:  staterooms, guest bedrooms , salons and dinettes, kitchens and bathrooms. The point of this article is to merely give you a glimpse inside these ultra expensive boats… expensive to buy, run and maintain. Be sure to also check out our yacht decks galleries .

Yacht Primary Bedrooms (Staterooms)

We kick off our yacht interiors gallery with the stateroom. When it comes to the primary bedroom on these boats, no expense is spared. They are large, comfortable and stunning in design. These bedrooms are bigger than our primary bedroom.

Yacht Guest Bedrooms (2 Beds)

Many guest bedrooms on a yacht have two beds so that it can accommodate more people. However, they are, as you’ll see below, still very, very luxurious. These are certainly cozy sleeping quarters.

Salon and Dinette Photos

My favorite room on the boat is the salon and/or dinette area. In many cases, the dinette doubles as the living room. Mega yachts have dedicated salons and dining areas. I love these superb lounge designs below in the cabin as well as the upper lounge areas.

I must admit that kitchens on these super yachts are fairly small. I guess the cooking is done by the staff and yacht owners prefer to have more space for bedrooms, deck space and lounge space. That makes sense given there really is limited space. Nevertheless, these kitchens are gorgeous and the yacht designers certainly didn’t skimp with respect to quality.

Most boats dedicate very little space to bathrooms. Not these. The primary bathrooms below are incredible. The smaller bathrooms are guest bathrooms. These luxury yachts are so large and spacious that even the bathrooms are both beautiful and comfortable to use.

  • Superyachts

What turns a superyacht into a thing of beauty? We asked scores of the world's leading yacht designers to list the 10 most beautiful superyachts ever built...

The only rules were that they couldn’t pick one of their own and they had to be luxury superyachts over 30 metres. With the votes counted, we can now reveal our definitive rundown of the most beautiful yachts in the world.

We’ve even enlisted some of those same designers to explain what makes the final ten yachts so special. Scroll down to see the full top 10 and read more about each model.

10 of the most beautiful superyachts of all time

10. Limitless

James Roy, managing director of BMT Nigel Gee believes her to be one of the most beautiful superyachts in the world and writes:

“One of the earlier breed of superyachts Limitless is in my opinion from a period when the volume of superstructures were not over imposing producing a well balanced yacht. These proportions coupled with the sheer line and well matched angles of bow profile and rake of superstructure ends all work together.”

most-beautiful-superyachts-skat

“It’s a great pleasure to pay tribute to an iconic thoroughbred such as Skat , still standing tall on the horizon,” says Tim Saunders of Rainsford Saunders Design. “Despite her military looks, this is a true superyacht, engineered as a ship at heart and built from the keel up, with every square metre fulfilling the owner’s brief. Skat is a unique design but has not broken traditional yachting rules for the sake of it.

She is a superyacht that has been devised to offer the owner a well-considered relationship between external and internal living spaces, and unlike many of her sisters, she doesn’t opt for maximum density. Skat ’s combination of poise, elegance and balance comes from a clever use of straight, angular lines, facetted surfaces and enhanced ship details.

Each component comes together in a harmonious relationship to offer a daring and bold statement that from a distance has the grace and elegance of something far more organic. She is a yacht that catches your eye from all angles.”

8. Alfa Nero

“When we first saw Alfa Nero we were impressed by her smooth exterior lines,” say Mareid Moosbrugger and Georg Decker of Egg and Dart Design. “The superstructure is sleek and elegant without any angular or hard corners. We consider her to be one of the most beautiful yachts afloat today, and we can easily understand why our colleagues agree.

“Walking around her at the 2007 Monaco Yacht Show , we felt the three-dimensional use of space was harmonious with the elements, and there was a true balance between the inside and outside areas of the yacht, with the exterior spaces maintaining a close connection with the natural environment of the sea and sky.

“The decks are open and airy, yet there is a feeling of being safely cocooned, and the superb aft deck in particular maintains a feeling of being at one with the ocean, which is emphasised by the huge pool. The yacht impressed us as a gentle giant: on the one hand huge, voluminous and technically advanced; on the other, stylish, glossy and surprisingly cosy.

“The beautiful interior features a timeless but modern design with elements of Art Deco, and everywhere you can see that the smallest details have been attended to. This yacht is a perfect combination of design, functionality and vision, and offers a unique ambience.”

most-beautiful-superyachts-aviva

Designer Reymond Langton says: “At the time of her creation, she was the largest yacht that we had signed and would be the largest the yard had built. The client is a very experienced yacht owner and for him to have put his trust in us when we had nothing of our own in the water at the time was a massive vote of confidence.

“He allowed us to be a little experimental with the design – this was the first large yacht with a plumb bow. It was fantastic to have landed another contract where we were able to design the exterior and interior as it gave us much more control over the whole project, and gave us the scope to really harmonise the spaces.

“It also allowed us to work hand in hand together, which we thoroughly enjoy and believe delivers the best results for the client. We think she stands out because she has a very striking profile that is easily recognisable from a distance.

“She has a lot of presence on the water due to her powerful lines. Anyone who has been on board will tell you that the high-volume interior feels incredibly luxurious.”

6. Carinthia VII

The Austrian supermarket heiress Heidi Horten replaced Carinthia VI (see below) with this very secret yacht rumoured to run at 26 knots. Voting her as his most beautiful yacht, Rupert Mann of Rainsford Mann Design said, “97m is a good length for a designer to work with, as it gives an opportunity to design longitudinally not vertically and therefore create an elegant yacht which appears low and sleek.

“What makes the design of Carinthia VII so successful is the enhancement of this due to the pure and elegant sheer line that draws your eye from the bow to stern so effortlessly. The clever trick of dropping the sheer line one deck down aft, gives it a dynamic and purposeful bow shape forward, as if carving its path with consummate ease.

The horizontal lines of the super structure are equally uncomplicated, in this instance resisting the addition of unnecessary detail such as fashion plates that often complicate a design. Ultimately I think the strength of the design manifests through its simplicity. It is the most successful of designs, which can be called a ‘timeless classic’.

“A design that will be successful in every genre modern or classic and in every decade, that even 7 years later still is relevant and pleasing to the eye. I would suspect it is this timeless styling and the sheer simplicity, coupled with the poise and balance of the whole composition, that is so appealing to so many of us.”

most-beautiful-superyachts-maltese-falcon

5. Maltese Falcon

The designer Ken Freivoch, responsible for the way this beautiful yacht looks says, “We are delighted that our fellow designers should have included Maltese Falcon within their shortlist. She was designed without any attempt to be ostentatious or to conform to a set style – it was very much a case of “form follows function”, albeit with very careful attention to essential design principles, balanced proportions and uncluttered and purposeful shapes totally derived from the function they are designed to perform.

The yacht is significant in her innovative sailing system, and our studio took this as a clue to develop the design around such technology, with every effort to develop beautiful and unique solutions aimed at highlighting her unique rig. I can only surmise that a reason why she may have been selected by designers is that she is not a “trendy” design, but the result of going back to first principles, coming out with original and unique solutions, and achieve continuity of concept through from the external styling to the interior design.

A case in point would be the design of the “spider” feature at the aft deck – originally the result of a last minute request from the naval architects to achieve optimum separation between the bearings at the mizzen mast, the announcement from Gerry Dijkstra came something like: “Hey Ken, if we had to place the top bearing for the aft mast 1m above the deck, in the middle of the aft deck – would that be a problem?

“Can you come up with a way to do this, which Tom will not object to? We took this as a clue to design an elegant and purposeful set of arches or buttresses to shore up the bearing in question, and at the same time underline what a unique “machine” the Falcon is – express such function very much along the lines of a watchmaker showing the inner workings of a beautifully crafted watch. Maltese Falcon was a great challenge, exactly the type of challenge that our design team relishes.

For us, the thrill, the excitement and the ultimate satisfaction is to come up with totally unique, “out-of-the-box” solutions, and achieve a design which the owner can feel was truly conceived and executed in response to his brief, to his preferences and to the very specific requirements set out for the project.”

most-beautiful-superyachts-enigma

Espen Oenio was at the time of the design working with Martin Francis and describes the commissioning owner – Mexican media magnate Emilio Azcarraga – as a wonderfully charismatic man. He remembers one meeting in particular early on in the project.

They were at the time sitting on board the owner’s then yacht Lady Azteca (now Achilles ), when he laid out what was to become the mission statement for the whole design process. He told the design team: “I am a very private man. I never spend time in port, I am always cruising. But when I do go into port, I want my presence to be felt through my boat.”

James Roy of BMT Nigel Gee is one designer who voted for Enigma . “It was not until I set eyes on her in the flesh at Cowes Week in 1999 that I really came to appreciate her beauty,” he says.

“The reverse sheer, the sweeping aft deck and those iconic windows – they all meld together to produce a yacht that visually works to perfection and is thoroughly striking even today, 18 years after her launch. It’s very different from anything else that is around.”

Theo Werner of Werner Yacht Design is equally enthusiastic. “When the design of this yacht was first published, I was stunned,” he says. “And when the first photographs appeared in the magazines, I was even more stunned.

“She introduced a new way of thinking that even surpassed the designs of Bannenberg, who I admire very much. Eco included many aspects that are foreign to other ships and yachts, yet Martin Francis managed to combine these with everything that make a ship pretty, such as sleekness, the suggestion of a low freeboard a small superstructure.”

She was subsequently sold to Larry Ellison and is now owned by the British businessman Aidan Barclay and his brother.

most-beautiful-superyachts-endeavour

3. Endeavour

“Endeavour is one of my favourite yachts for a number of reasons,” Ed Dubois told SuperYacht World . “Firstly, she is a J Class yacht – one of only a few ever built. This class epitomised the very peak of yacht design before World War II and remains still, in technical terms, a class apart. These yachts were extreme in every way and demanded technology that was then in its infancy.

“They were superb yachts to sail upwind, but they were also fast reaching and downwind. They demanded a very high level of sailing skill, and indeed a high level of boatbuilding skill.

“ Endeavour , I believe, is the most beautiful of all the Js built. Her purity of line is exquisite and I think the shape of the sheer is slightly better than any of the others including Velsheda (by the same designer).

“Charles Nicholson designed Endeavour in 1933 and she was used to challenge for the America’s Cup in 1934. It was universally acknowledged that she was faster than the defender Rainbow , and she won the first two races, but better sailing by the Americans allowed them to win overall.

“She has captured the imagination of so many people including, happily, Elizabeth Meyer, who acquired the yacht in the seventies and rebuilt her almost from scratch.

“I believe there is some original plate still present but the hull was rebuilt in the UK and then taken to Royal Huisman Shipyard to be fitted out. The interior, by John Munford, is beautiful – obviously not what was fitted originally when she was a pure racing yacht, but Munford created something that is entirely fitting.

“Endeavour is not a practical yacht to own. She can only be sailed in reasonable conditions, she requires a large crew to race her, most of whom by necessity must sleep ashore, and maintaining a yacht of this type, particularly with regard to sails, rigging, etc is not inexpensive. However, for sheer sailing performance, romantic appeal and beauty I believe she is second to none.”

most-beautiful-superyachts-pelorus

Designer Tim Heywood says: “When a client gives you carte blanche to create a design, it is a blessing and a curse, if you do not rise to the challenge, you will not gain the approval of your client or, eventually, the respect of your peers.

“ Pelorus was a great project for us and we are extremely pleased with the end result, as was the client. I was able to develop the internal general arrangement plan, the external global styling themes and the practical engineering details to a level I had not achieved before.

The organic curves & forms of the superstructure are echoed in the lines of the hull, tying the two forms together, to produce a harmony that is easy on the eye, was quite unique at the time and, hopefully, will not date.

“The belt line that runs forward from the stern and sweeps down towards the anchor pocket, is inspired by the armour plating of the light cruiser HMS Belfast , which still lives just up stream from our old London studio.

“If I succeeded in creating a yacht that is thought of as attractive, by my brothers in arms of the design world, I am very pleased. Informed comments from professional, talented designers and client, means more than from any other source, especially if they are not negative!

“My partner, Vanessa, came up with our project name, we always give a name to our yachts, rather than a sterile number, and the client liked the name so much that he confirmed Pelorus as the yacht’s eventual name. The yacht has changed hands, but we are very pleased to see that she has retained her original name.”

“If I succeeded in creating a yacht that is thought of as attractive by my brothers-in-arms of the design world, I am very pleased. Informed comment from professional, talented designers and clients means more than from any other source – especially when they are positive!”

most-beautiful-superyachts-carinthia-vi-the-one

1. Carinthia VI

Dickie Bannenburg of Bannenburg Designs say: “Famously, and perhaps notoriously, Carinthia VI owes her existence to the fact that her elder sibling Carinthia V survived for only a few months before ending her days several fathoms down in Greek waters.

:The unfortunate captain struggled ashore to find a phone to have an awkward phone conversation with Helmut Horten, his Owner. Mr Horten rang my father up almost the following day and told him to start work on her replacement which has now become, in an often over used phrase, a yachting icon.

“She certainly wasn’t an icon when she appeared out of the Lürssen shed for the first time. With dramatic superstructure on a slim frigate-based hull, grilles and that distinctive blue windshield forward of the wheelhouse, my father’s design scared the pants off people and the perception of him hardened amongst conventional designers and naval architects as a dangerous radical. But now her pared down lines and slender masculinity scream good taste, restraint and a sense of suave style that is rarely seen these days.

“Certainly her interior was purposeful, code for slightly austere, and by today’s standards there was not much interior volume for lavish living, not least due to the presence of three mighty MTU diesels. There are no swoops, no complicated fashion plates and absolutely no ability to walk down steps at the transom to a nice bathing platform.

“But all the better for it. Life on board was, I understand, conducted with a certain Austrian precision and Carinthia ’s elegant and taut exterior, with deep blue paintwork and her gold coachwork stripe cut an unmistakeable dash in the harbours of the Cote d’Azur as she still does today.

“My father was very proud of her. Of course I’m even more proud that his design of almost forty years ago has such an enduring impact.”

Superyacht Interiors: The Top Luxury Designs

Free eBooks

Everyone knows that a yacht or superyacht is nothing without a luxury interior. Indeed, there’s now a whole range of interior designers who either specialize in or regularly create yacht interiors. So, how do you find the best projects? Here at Insplosion, we want to help. That’s why we’ve gathered a list of our top luxury superyacht interiors !

Brigadoon | studio indigo.

Including the Brigadoon in this list is pretty mandatory. After all, this luxury yacht by Studio Indigo is an actual winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2019! Thus, this project is all about the grand but understated mid-century luxury decor. The flowers, the wood, and navy-colored details combine to make this into a pretty classic luxury boat interior. Indeed, it’s the beautiful and neutral harmony that truly takes this project to the next level.

Besides, it’s quite a practical design. As you can see, the bedrooms and closets are amazingly organized. It’s all about luxury, yes, but also about comfort and practicality. The high seas are no place for clutter, which can cause accidents in bad weather.

But, in contrast with the brown color palette, you have this lovely deck area. With its slightly japandi style influences, this is the perfect place to relax in at the end of a long day.

Aurora Borealis | Winch Design

The Aurora Borealis does justice to its namesake. Indeed, it is as white and bright of an interior as the aurora itself. However, there are all sorts of little decor elements which are reminiscent of the sea. Just notice the shell-shaped ashtray and sea-horse patterns on some of the pillows! Finally, the mid-century lighting really adds a nice touch to the ambiance.

But there’s much more to admire. How do you like the lovely art deco bar? The lines themselves almost remind you of corals and shells. And the airy, light decor is just as present in the dining and living areas. While just as luxurious, this interior is much different from the Brigadoon’s.

Finally, we’ll leave you with this gorgeous view of the yacht’s deck at night. Once again, the seatings and patterns are chosen to be evocative of the ocean. It’s as gorgeous of a yacht design as you could ask for.

Superyacht Forever | St. Corona Interiors

If you’re looking for something equally light, but much more sober, look no further than Superyacht Forever . This creation by St. Corona Interiors also follows a white color scheme, but the decor elements aren’t quite as feminine. There’s not as much art deco influence here. The lines are much cleaner and simpler, almost minimalist compared to the glamour of the previous project.

The Finest Living Room Ideas by Fiona Barratt

The bar and living room area follow more or less the same route. Indeed, they favor light color schemes and clean, shapely lines. It’s all about practical luxury, functional without being quite minimalist.

Finally, we have the bedroom. While not opulent in the slightest, this room has the same sort of stylish beauty as the rest of the interior. Once again: you don’t want clutter on the high seas!

Logica | Martin Kemp Design

At last, we reach the Logica .  This project for a luxury yacht by Marin Kemp Design is everything our interior decor dreams are made of. Like the Aurora, it takes a much more art deco approach to superyacht interiors. The little metal details are just what we like to call luxury hardware!

The bedroom and living space designs follow very similar color schemes and strategies. Since you can’t have any clutter, it’s all about denoting luxury through the tiniest details.

Finally, you have the bathroom project, which is as light and gorgeous as the rest of the design. It’s a luxury bathroom through and through.

So, which of these superyacht interiors did you prefer?

The Most Exciting Superyacht Interiors of 2022

By Heather Collier

Superyachts.com reflects on the some of the most memorable and remarkable superyacht interiors unveiled and showcased over the course of the past year.

Lady Lene In May of this year, interior images of the 34 metre fully custom Van der Valk explorer yacht Lady Lene were unveiled for the very first time, and was publicly presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival last month. The all-aluminium tri-deck superyacht is instantly recognisable by her golden-bronze hull, fast-displacement round bilge hull and wave-piercing bow. However, Lady Lene’s interiors more than rival her sleek and sturdy exterior. Accommodating up to 10 guests, the client's brief included five staterooms: two master, one of them on the bridge deck with a private balcony, two spacious and comfortable VIP, and a guest cabin, as well as six crew members in a captain's cabin and two crew cabins. The intention for Lady Lene's interior was to create a calming effect throughout. Using materials such as fluted wood, a popular material in the 1920s and 30s, as well as natural oak, silk georgette stone, leather, and suede, the design team were able to create a cosy yet luxurious feel.

Subtle champagne gold metal touches also help create a harmonious connection between the spaces, masterfully executed by the artisans of the Van der Valk Shipyard. The main deck expands from the spacious dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and hideable cabinetry over a residential kitchen with full-size side-by-side fridge and freezer and a six-burner induction cooktop at the bow all the way through the saloon to the large al-fresco dining and lounge areas on the extended aft deck, with a seamless transition from inside to outside areas.

Goga Described by Benetti as a 'new chapter' in this historic shipyard's journey, Goga offers a transformative 'new concept of space' to those onboard.

Rather uniquely for a yacht of 37m, guest cabins have been elevated on to the main deck, a feature more common of a much larger yacht. Her bridge can also have a veranda or a private owner deck, which is rare for a yacht of her size, and more typical of yachts 55m+.

Her interior was designed in-house by Mauro Izzo. Through Izzo and Giorgetti Design's careful and meticulous planning of each room and hand-selected piece, Goga provides guests with enhanced comfort through bright and contemporary spaces. To reach the upper deck, guests will find an alluring central stairway in the midst of elegant interior and exterior dining areas and the main saloon. Goga provides an expansive, open plan space that leads onto a foredeck area with a pool and more seating.

Up one more level is the owner’s cabin, with its own private terrace with a large sundeck just above. Guests can enjoy an uninterrupted, 360 degree view through glass that spans the entirety of the main lounge and outdoor terraces.

With an al fresco dining space dubbed as "fun island", guests can enjoy dining and lounging right by the water's edge, with huge, comfortable stairs to enter it whenever they please. In terms of accomodation, there are two further double cabins on the lower deck, bringing the total number of guest cabins to seven.

There is total separation of guests and crew, with all crew and service areas concentrated on the lower deck; granting guests the pleasure of full privacy.

A garage and huge beach club can also be found below, with tenders and toy storage dedicated. The beach area also offers a shower, sauna and laundry as well as space to store furniture and other items when guests desire to relax at sea level. Al Waab No stranger to opulence, Al Waab’s décor bears a stunning, gold wall installation, with integrated crystals that elegantly dress the stairwell and all three decks. Glass also appears to be a key feature, resulting in uninterrupted sight lines, creating a smooth, glacial pace for guests when moving between spaces.

Glass bulwarks provide uninterrupted outboard views and large outdoor areas for guests to enjoy the vistas in a secluded, plush setting. With a drop-down bulwark in the main dining area, the idea of a traditional dining room vanishes completely, complimented by a stunning alfresco breakfast space – just two metres above the water on the starboard deck. Her sprawling beach club in the stern is another highlight, along with a jacuzzi forward of the owner’s stateroom.

The use of virtual reality was also implemented early on in the project to optimise the space planning and ergonomic layout. Open-plan, owner-centric general arrangements are guaranteed to create a true sense of freedom for all onboard, sleeping up to 18 guests for both owners and guests.

Rare for a 499GT yacht, she includes a lavish split-level master suite on the upper deck with a private 4m pool on the foredeck. By placing the tender bay in a sunken deck in the bow, the tenders are easily accessible yet hidden from view. The grated ‘tween deck arrangement provides storage for two tenders, a pair of jet skis, and other water toys and amenities.

Much of the living and seating areas are outward facing, sketched with the sentiment of letting owners form an intimate, unforgettable connection with the sea. Bold Bold's interior boasts a seamless blend of luxury and practicality, offering a sleek range of oak and teak, accompanied by metallic painted features and oak and marble flooring, all centred around an extravagant sky lounge. Accommodating 12 guests in 8 luxury cabins, including an owner’s suite, 3 VIP cabins and 4 double guest cabins, while a further 13 cabins can allow a crew of over 20 onboard the Lower Deck, she is plentiful in room.

On her top deck, Bold features additional, expansive party spaces, including a secluded jacuzzi and 2,700-litre, glistening spa pool alongside a cosy firepit and equipment to set up and indulge in your own private cinema.

For owners who find joy in entertaining, look no further than the main banqueting space – complete with a bar, serving stations, two rotisseries and an induction hob, all to satisfy any guest's culinary needs.

The aft section of the Bridge Deck also features removable railings that allow space for a second helicopter, but perhaps what is most impressive, is the winter garden located on the Owner's Deck. When unveiled, this tranquil space acts as a large terrace, open to the sea breeze and breath-taking panoramic views of the water. The 300 sqm interior loft is designed to feel like a New York loft apartment and uniquely brings everyone together in a modern, open plan space with full height windows. Perhaps most dramatic is the contrast between the interior spaces and utilitarian exterior spaces – especially when viewed from the wintergarden.

Bold's aft deck opens up to a 400sqm multi-purpose open space capable of storing large tenders, sailboats, cars or submarines – a feature very few yachts can match. With a full wall LED screen and impressive sound system in the heli hanger, this space can be used for a movie, disco or an indoor/outdoor gym.

Monaco Yacht Show: 7 Yacht Interiors That Will Steal the Show

By Nicole Trilivas

Room on yacht with intricate blue stone flooring and walls

Running from September 28 through October 1, the Monaco Yacht Show is the highlight of the global boat show circuit. This year’s edition promises to deliver plenty of buzzy debuts, headline-making yacht news, and high-design highlights. There are several new additions to this year’s event in Port Hercules including a sustainability hub and a gadget- and gizmo-filled adventure area , packed with new water toys and flashy supercars —it is Monaco , after all.

For denizens of design, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub is returning for a second year, with presentations, galleries, and exhibits by yacht architects and designers. But, of course, the big boats steal the show. With yacht interiors that range from the classically nautical to the budget-blowing bonkers, these are the superyachts to have on your radar at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Sitting area inside a yacht

An oversized chandelier defines the space in the informal dining room aboard Ahpo .

Lürssen, Ahpo

All eyes will be on the whopping 377-feet Ahpo , by Lürssen, when it debuts this year at the Monaco Yacht Show as the largest yacht in the port. Venice-based exterior and interior designer Nuvolari Lenard added plenty of personality and luxury to the vessel with oversized crystal light features, a hammam made of mosaics in the massive wellness area, and a grand staircase at the center of the yacht, crafted to resemble an olive tree.

Interiors of main deck lounge on a yacht

Blue accents channel the traditional nautical aesthetic.

Feadship, Rock.It

The 198-foot Rock.It is not short on style: Gleaming wood panels with creamy white leather inlays feature throughout; glowing white onyx contrasts with rich black Portoro marble; and the well-dressed owner’s cabin rivals the top suite of an old-world European hotel with a warm wood study and bathroom with a claw-footed tub. The refined design can be attributed to the Netherlands with Dutch shipyard Feadship behind the build and Dutch design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design taking on the interiors.

Bar and seating area on a yacht

Modern and laid-back, Come Together is effortlessly cool.

Amels, Come Together

Built in the Netherlands by Amels with interiors by London-based Winch Design, the 197-foot Come Together has soft and laid-back beach-y vibes with a dose of Southern California cool. Elements like bleached oaks, woven linen fabrics, cabinetry with natural coconut shell, and hair-on-hide leathers all unite to bring the natural world aboard this chic ship.

Stairs leading down to a seating area on a yacht

Crisp and clean, the interiors of Be Cool are to-the-point in a refreshing way.

Swan 98, Be Cool

There’s a fleet of around a dozen large sailing yachts on display at this year’s yacht show in the dedicated Sailing Yacht Area. One of the most notable new launches of the bunch is Swan 98 Be Cool  by Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan. The clean and crisp interior hull design by Genovese architect Misa Poggi embraces graceful nautical style and Scandinavian practicality with navy linen and cotton fabrics, dark oak, and handsome tobacco-hued leather.

Kokomo ’s interiors will speak to the minimalist.

Sunreef, Kokomo

Packed with cutting-edge green tech and ultralight solar panels, Sunreef’s newest catamaran  Eco 80 will be making waves at this year’s show. However, it’s the interiors of the 80-foot Kokomo (done in-house by Sunreef) that will impress the design lovers. Outfitted in cool and calm shades of white with rattan finishes and eucalyptus veneers, Kokomo is both on-trend and a complete classic.

The glass-bottom pool is a highlight of the yacht.

Abeking & Rasmussen, B2

One of the largest vessels currently on the market, the 281-foot B2 by German yard Abeking & Rasmussen, will be showing off an ultra-chic over-$4-million interior refit just completed in July at this year’s show. Sprawling out over five decks, Winch Design has curated a serene floating sanctuary of indoor-outdoor living, the highlight of which is the main deck’s glass-bottom pool, stationed above the light-filled beach club lounge with fold-down balconies that extend the living space right to the water’s edge.

With dark wood, tubular steel accents, and black furnishings, the interiors of State of Grace could be described as a nautical take on the Bauhaus aesthetic.

Perini Navi, State of Grace

State of Grace by Italy’s Perini Navi is a gorgeous high-performance sailing sloop. It’s picture-perfect with polished teak decks, an ocean-blue hull, and billowing white sails. Inside is a study in midcentury-modern elegance with a split-level saloon and a spacious and full-beam owner’s suite with a hammam shower.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then surely the 5,000-plus superyachts currently on the water are considered some of the most beautiful things ever created. Each, whether semi- or fully custom, has features that sprang from the mind of its owners.

Nowhere is that more true than in interior decor. Here is where owners really get to express themselves. Not only can they choose which tones and textures take center stage, but they also have significant say in how and where those materials are used. Some prefer the classic appeal of mahogany paneling, for a gentleman’s-club look, while others like lacquered surfaces, for a decidedly contemporary ambiance. Still others go completely avant-garde and put stone slabs on the walls.

The following 10 superyachts span the spectrum of these styles, and more. Where one captures bygone-era elegance, another reflects militaristic modernism. There’s a contemporary twist on French Classical design, and even an abundance of white marble meant to play second fiddle to an amazing art collection. You’re certain to find something that suits your definition of beauty.

How to Design an Amazing Superyacht Interior

Let our list spark your imagination and help you start creating the perfect superyacht interiors.

By Sophie Killip

beautiful yachts inside

Those who can’t get enough of sailing the high seas will probably have done it all: cruises, a private yacht charter and visits to the yacht shows. You might even have decided that your love of the ocean requires something more – a yacht of your own, purchased to ensure that you never miss a high season in the Caribbean again. However, if you have purchased a vessel that has not been pre-designed or furnished, the next task will be designing superyacht interiors to fit your requirements.

Much like the design of private jets, the size and usage of a yacht will be the main factors to how the vessel is designed. How many cabins will it have, and how many leisure spaces? Will you need space to carry out work, or to entertain several guests? One of the easiest ways to get around these questions is to work with a yacht interior designer , who can help you work through all the decisions and will also have knowledge on the health and safety requirements of any vessel before it is certified as sea-worthy.

Although we would highly recommend seeking expert opinion, it doesn’t hurt to start thinking about what interiors you would like to see in your yacht. Elite Traveler has put together a collection of interior options including everything from lighting to dinnerware, to spark your imagination and help you start creating the perfect superyacht interiors.

One of the most important considerations for both the style of your superyacht interiors and the safety aspect will be the furniture you choose. Depending on the size of your yacht, you may also have several rooms to furnish – giving you the opportunity to create your ideal lounge, dining space, office, cabin and even a gym or onboard cinema.

No matter the type of room, you are sure to find something that suits your style with Visionnaire. The luxury furniture company has been making world-class pieces since launching in 2005, with a strong focus on high-quality, natural materials. We particularly love the stunning Pavone Armchair , a statement piece that comes in a range of colors and metal finishes.

For beautiful and sustainable woodwork, opt for British furniture manufacturer RAFT. The brand is best known for using sustainable teak that is tried and crafted in Indonesia; the wood is naturally pest resistant and durable, growing without heavy irrigation or fertilizers. RAFT’s Teak Root Glass Dining Table is a great option for any dining space, coming in a variety of sizes with a contemporary look that will work well with a variety of styles.

If you’re looking for something more bespoke and selective for your furniture pieces, look no further than Glyn Peter Machin . The designer and his team have been crafting bespoke furniture and accessories for over 20 years, with a portfolio of works that covers private residences and superyachts across the world. One of the brand’s latest pieces is a vibrant wireless Audio Cabinet that acts both as a work of art and a functional addition to any cinema room.

Accessories

One part of interior design that is often overlooked is the accessories within a room – but these can often be the final touches that finalize a space and harmonize it. For example, a well-chosen dining table will need dinnerware that has also been thoughtfully chosen. We prefer luxurious homeware brand L’OBJET’s Aegean Filet collection in gold; its finish is subtle and won’t detract from the food being served, but also has a slightly nautical touch with the scale-like gold trim.

If you’re planning on entertaining onboard your yacht, it’s impossible to go wrong with Baccarat – the global luxury icon that has been handcrafting beautiful crystal objects for over 250 years, ranging from stand-out decorative pieces to exquisite table and barware. To really make an impression when the celebrations get started, cool your champagne in Baccarat’s Harcourt Champagne Cooler .

When thinking about other types of accessories or final touches to pull a space together cohesively, don’t forget about artwork and how this can play a part in your superyacht interiors. For a stylish, lifelike sculpture to act as a statement piece within any room onboard, opt for a work by Hamish Mackie . The British sculptor is particularly interested in wildlife and capturing the spirit of the animals, with pieces being cast in bronze and silver.

When it comes to superyacht interiors, another important aspect of the design is the materials that are used throughout the vessel – these should be both stylish and seaworthy, adding to the style of a room while still complying with safety checks. A yacht interior designer will know how to approach this, but there are several brands that specialize in yacht materials worth knowing, in case you are planning a specific look onboard your yacht.

Nature Squared transforms natural materials into surfaces / ©Nature Squared

Studioart , for example, is a manufacturer of high-quality upholstery leathers and wall coverings, which mixes innovative technologies with the heritage and craftwork of leather making. This careful balance has meant that the brand can now be found in private yachts, homes and jets across the globe. For other types of surfaces, we love Nature Squared – an innovative company transforming sustainable, natural materials into high-quality surfaces and finishes for a range of products, private homes, yachts and more.

Finally, no list of yacht-worthy materials would be complete without mention of the world-renowned House of Tai Ping : the brand creates some of the most exquisite handmade and woven carpets in the world, which can be found everywhere from five-star hotels to private jet and yacht interiors. In fact, the brand has its own Yacht Division, which was founded in 2002, making it even easier to translate its beautiful designs into pieces that can work on your yacht.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend inside a luxurious luxury yacht? Well, this is your lucky day. We have a gallery of luxurious yacht interiors that will leave you wondering why these boat owners would ever set foot on dry land. There are many reasons why you may be looking for information on yacht interior design ideas, and you are surely looking for new concepts for your considerations. We discovered these ideas from various sources and we think this may be one of several amazing materials for reference. Today we want to help you find more suggestions on yacht interior design ideas.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

For the  luxury  enthusiast, today we have chosen to introduce you to some of the most beautiful yacht interiors in the world, the designs of which are so eye-catching that hardly anyone will be indifferent while looking at them. You have the opportunity to see some of the most  beautiful interiors  of yachts that cost millions of dollars, and that is why they attract the most attention.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

The  interior of a yacht  is a real design challenge as space is limited. But even more difficult is the fact that all space will move, perhaps a little, depending on the vagaries of the ocean.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

So yacht interior design is not for the weak, which is why, for the most part, it is a very specialized niche. But with limitations come opportunities for creativity. Check how varied the yacht interiors are.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

Yacht interior designs do not appear in sources that are not dedicated to yachts very often. And that’s a shame, really. One look at these amazing designs will make you want to renovate your home. While the exterior design of yachts is something that boating enthusiasts can discern, interior aficionados will definitely swoon in these wood-paneled living rooms, sleek  industrial kitchens, and hotel-style bedrooms. Also, get  isotherm marine refrigerators so that you can store all the party food while you’re on the water.

Yachts may differ in size but their interiors are as luxurious as you can imagine. Crystal chandeliers, ultra-chic furnishings, and lacquered wood will make any boat look luxurious. Like the more resplendent residences, these yacht interior designs feature marble bathrooms and spacious dining rooms, stepped ceilings and wooden floors along with the amenities of boutique hotels.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

What are we looking for when we choose a holiday destination and what are the expectations about the accommodation? Well, it happens that sometimes we are disappointed or do not find the expected quality and that is how we decided to change the classic hotel rooms for the luxurious high-tech equipment of the yachts. On this type of ship, you can spend memorable days and nights with plenty of champagne surrounded by modern design ideas.

The new modern and luxurious design spaces inside the yacht can provide you with all the expected comfort and at the same time enjoy the wonderful and magnificent sound of the ocean waves. Sailing the ocean with a super yacht is an experience that you must try at least once and you can be sure that VIP services are included.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

A great interior design is not only rich and sophisticated. That there is a feeling of relaxation is also of the utmost importance. It should provide a balance between innovative planning and design of the space, luxurious materials, exotic woods and a device with a combination of unique accessories for the accent.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

It is very good to know before buying a luxury yacht that the interior design of a yacht is more than just an attractive environment. In exclusive luxury yachts, like luxury sailboats and motor yachts for exclusive private use, quality, comfort and functionality must be the highest priority. As such, the right supplier should be able to bring a unique combination of furniture, modern woodwork, and dramatic lighting to combine a final product of comfortable and harmonious accents.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

Despite its exterior design, the interior of a yacht is a true fantasy. In addition to exclusive facilities such as the library, gym, swimming pool, cinema and bar, some of them contain a beautiful waterfall that flows inside the yacht. There are no words to describe that beauty, just take a look at the examples below and you will be speechless.

20 Luxury Yacht Inspired Interiors - Sophisticated and Elegant Ideas

Probably the hardest part of finding the right interior designer to work on your yacht is determining what exactly you want to achieve. Do you want your yacht to be modern? Would you like to have a touch of attitude portrayed in your décor? Or would you like the design to be simplistic and minimal? How are space restrictions solved?

Once you have a range of ideas, the trick is to write them in a way that someone else can understand them; it is not always easy. A good idea is to collect images of other designs you have seen and create a collage. It is up to the designer working with you to create your perfect interior. Think about the type of environment you want to connote: Cozy? Luxurious? Elegant?

In terms of choosing a designer, always ask for case studies. Clients are often well informed and turn to a certain designer, especially because they want the style of that particular designer.

With trends coming and going, there may be times in the life of a yacht when a major interior refit is needed.

A large interior refit can be expensive and time consuming, so it is important to make sure this is truly the best idea for both the vessel and your pocketbook.

Homeowners and designers are looking for a more contemporary, matte finish now. Natural wash effects and more exotic woods are also used more frequently.

There are many things for sure that are still happening within the superyacht industry. There’s nothing wrong with that really because, frankly, it’s easier to spend time in a relaxed, caring environment.

Interior décor is a matter of taste too, and while one superyacht may go for minimal, neutral colors that offset the beautiful wood features, another may go for the opulent Art Deco style with gold stripes.

inside custom line navetta 38 yacht with leather walls, raffia surfaces and ‘3D oak ceilings’

Explore the design of custom line navetta 38 yacht.

In January 2024, Custom Line, a yacht brand of Ferretti Group , introduced its recent made-to-measure model, Navetta 38. In May 2024, designboom went to see its real-life model in Venice , anchored near the Venice Art Biennale 2024’s Arsenale and the Central Pavilion (Giardini). Alberto Galassi, the yacht’s owner and the CEO of Ferretti Group, was on board, joined by one of the interior design team members, architect Chiara Massarani of ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, and the water vehicle’s exterior designer, architect Filippo Salvetti.

Stepping inside, air and light mingle and pass through, and everything is open: all the full-height, wall-to-wall sliding windows in the main deck; the sea-facing beach club at the tail of the yacht with its modular and plush lounge seats and beach chairs; the warm lighting, exposed and hidden under the surfaces; the rounded teak doors, a signature detail for the entire line; the cabinets, the compartments, and the motors. There’s almost 465 square meters of total surface area for the Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht, extended across three decks, with each floor retaining a sense of openness and lightness, most of the time quite literally.

3D oak ceilings curve around the edges and corners

Pay attention to the interiors, the neutral palettes that enlarge, brighten up, and texturize the space. In the salons, raffia, a natural fiber, cloaks the walls in their organic forms, only cut and sized to fit the fittings. They’re interrupted by the presence of oak , from the ceilings to the floors. Glance up, and the guests can see the most distinctive feature in the interiors of the Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht: the ‘3D oak ceilings,’ hollowed-out and styled like mini slabs of wood. The handcrafted light wood curves around the edges of ceilings and the corners of the entire interiors. As architect Chiara Massarani tells designboom during the tour , the design aim is to avoid sharp and pointed edges.

The interior is softened by the use of neutral colors such as beige and ivory. It must continue its promise of a gentle touch of design, underlined by the use of warm lighting throughout the Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht. ‘White light is too strong and not atmospheric,’ architect Chiara Massarani shares with designboom during the yacht viewing event. ‘Light in general is very important in a project. If you don’t use the correct lighting, it will have a completely different result in the project. For this yacht, we went for warm, soft lighting to bring the natural materials of the interior to light. We also used indirect and custom lighting to create some 3D effects and to make sure that the owner can adjust how they want the guests to see artworks within the yacht as the light changes direction.’

Leather walls and raffia surfaces in cabins and suites

On the main deck, there’s a passage leading to the master suite. In this lobby, there’s a staircase leading to the four guest cabins on the lower deck, two VIP and two guest cabins, all with their own double or twin beds, ample storage, closets, desks, and private bathrooms. Between these two spaces, two materials dominate the design landscape: natural leather and wood. Entering the master suite, the ivory raffia acts as the wallpaper of the entire bedroom. The 3D oak ceiling continues, and the use of oak and warm lighting permeate the bathroom too. And within this space, the natural leather begins, inviting itself as the star material for the master suite, staircase, and lower deck.

The headboard of the master bed? Leather. The surface of the desks that can be lifted up for extra storage? Crafted leather. The linings and edges of the cabinets? Lattice leather. The handrail of the teak staircase leading to the lower deck? Very leather, spiraling around the rail, looking like a luxurious candy cane. The walls on the lower deck? Definitely leather. Architect Chiara Massarani says it is an attempt to evoke the style of old-fashioned suitcases, a vintage traveler’s luggage turned into Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht design. Treated oak and teak grace the rest of the design elements of each deck in the yacht, filling out the spaces that raffia and leather would have cocooned in, acting as a complement to the overall neutral aesthetics.

Walking up the upper deck, measuring over 90 square meters, more spaces for gathering and relaxing await. At the front, there’s a lounge area with a 180-degree panoramic view and a full-beam modular couch with coffee tables, all designed by ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. In front of it, the dining area can accommodate up to 10 people with a rectangular table. Slide the door-doubling-as-windows open, and the guests find themselves inside the sky lounge. Three sides of this space are dedicated to full-height landscape windows that also serve as sliding doors, allowing for a scenic view and more openness.

Further forward, the pilot’s helm station breaks free from the neutral palettes carpeting most of the interior. In here, along with the advanced technologies to help them maneuver the Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht, the surfaces and primary color are charcoal black to reduce the infrared rays by up to 65 percent. This model is fitted with two MAN units rated at 1,400 hp that can drive the yacht to a top speed of 15 knots, with a range of about 2,800 nautical miles at an economy cruising speed of 10 knots.

Just outside the pilot’s station, directly at the bow, a sunset lounge is positioned, still comprising the custom modular units for its party-sized seating and a solarium with sun pads. Underneath this lounge deck, there’s a hidden garage that can accommodate the owner’s tender, or a jet ski and two water toys. If not these watercrafts, they can use the vertical garage as a storage area. Further up, the sundeck greets the guests, with a total surface area of 65 square meters and a length of 15 meters. Look up, and some frosted-like boxes are embedded onto the ceiling, sheltering the guests from the sun and helping reflect the outside sunlight.

When the tour is over, Alberto Galassi sits down in a large sofa planted on the sundeck, surrounded by journalists and their smartphones, recording his words about the Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht; the Miuccia Prada quote that stayed with him (about luxury being vulgar); being friends with Domenico Dolce of Dolce & Gabbana; how involved his wife was choosing the colors and non-colors for the interior of his yacht, hence the spectrum of around eight shades of beige and ivory; and the renaissance of ‘la piazzetta’ (‘a small square’) inside the yacht, on the lower deck.

‘There’s a connecting area in front of the four cabinets where all the guests, when they cruise with me, might need to dress up or change, to talk to others after the evening, to comment. It’s like typical Italians discussing in the piazza (square),’ Alberto Galassi says during the roundtable interview. The ‘always being in style’ bit runs through his Italian blood and culture, enough to make some dark surfaces around the Custom Line Navetta 38 yacht glazed and mirrored, what architect Chiara Massarani describes as ‘black mirror.’ They reflect anyone and anything, creating a seemingly optical illusion, even if what they do is bounce off the images they see.

They can make the space more expansive, the lighting warmer, and the people multiply in numbers. They also double as subtle and quick mirrors, with some semi-clear panels for a swift outfit check before the night and party go on. They’re present in the upper deck too, the favorite space of the Ferretti Group CEO. ‘I’m not an air conditioning guy,’ he shares in the interview. ‘I don’t like to be closed in an area, in a beautiful area like on the sea, with just air conditioning. I like the Alfresco dining style with open air. On the upper deck, the sliding doors open wide, creating a huge terrace on three sides. That’s the best feature in the world.’

The most beautiful motorboats and yachts under 24 m

Updated on May 5th, 2024

This list is constantly updated. So if you’ve built an amazingly beautiful production boat, please let us know so we can add it for voting.

Other lists and ratings:

  • The worst yacht designs and ugliest boats in the world
  • The most beautiful superyachts of the 21st century

The final selection of winners was made by the entire magazine editorial team from pre-selected boats through an open vote on social media. There are no first or last places here, all winning boats are added randomly.

Riva El-Iseo

Added May 2024

Riva El-Iseo

This may be the most beautiful tender you can find in the world. This short review will let you know that we are absolutely crazy about this electric boat.

Maxi Dolphin 70 Power

Added April 2024

A quick look at the Maxi Dolphin 70 Power

If we were asked to choose one single motorboat for life (and that it was not a trawler), then most likely it would be something like the MD70 Power from an Italian shipyard that also builds beautiful sailboats. It is difficult to overestimate the aesthetic pleasure that you can get from this fast and elegant 21.6-meter yacht.

Terra Nauta 40

Terra Nauta 40

A vision of an Italian classic from a Croatian shipyard that needs no description. Terra Nauta motorboats are not only beautiful, but also perform well in any weather. The demand for these boats exceeds the shipyard’s supply, and it is easy to see why this is so .

Selene 72 Ocean Explorer

Added March 2024

Selene Trawler Yacht 72 Ocean Explorer

Absolutely every Selene trawler yacht deserves to be on this list. But the range of boats from this shipyard is too large to add them all. Therefore, after consulting briefly, we decided to limit ourselves to one of the culmination models – Ocean Explorer 72 .

Generally speaking, when we see any trawler, we want to run around and wag our tail, but when we see the Selene trawler, we instantly fall into a meditative state of contemplation.

Super Lauwersmeer SLX54

Added February 2024

Super Lauwersmeer SLX54

This amazing 17-meter boat was first presented by the Dutch shipyard in 2023. The yacht is so unique that there is nothing to compare it with. Moreover, it seems to be not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the most comfortable flybridge boats in the world.

Elling E4

We have taken Elling yachts out into rough seas several times and can confidently say that these boats are probably one of the most reliable and safe in their size range. This semi-displacement 15-meter yacht is Category A and is capable of self-righting when capsized. In addition, it is incredibly spacious inside and very quiet even at full speed. What else do you need?

Oh, yes, of course, the appearance. Well, it turns out that reliable and seaworthy boats are always beautiful and vice versa. And the E4 model was unanimously recognized as the coolest of the three in the shipyard’s range.

Sialia 57

We immediately fell in love with this boat at first sight. Besides the incredible color combination, this semi-custom electric yacht is well proportioned and very pleasing to the eye. You can read more about this yacht here .

J Craft 42 Torpedo

J Craft Torpedo 42

These are completely unique classic boats from the Swedish shipyard that instantly convey a sense of understated luxury and timeless style. The quality of these boats is so high that it is not just tangible, it is in the air around them. Naturally, all of the above are the main components of incredible beauty, the possession of which is very exclusive.

Sasga Menorquín 55 HT

Sasga Menorquín 55 HT

All Sasga boats are very attractive, but the absolute majority of votes were given to this model. There is probably no need to explain why Sasga is on the list of the most beautiful yachts under 24 meters.

Archipelago 47

Archipelago 47

Yes, it’s a catamaran. And yes, we don’t really like multihulls. However, we made an exception for Archipelago because… Well, this catamaran is very cool. That’s why we even wrote an article about him. It compares favorably with all other motor catamarans not only with its beautiful design and color combination, but also with its aluminum hull.

Apreamare Gozzo 45

Apreamare Gozzo 45

The most charming boats are always heirs to old traditions. The Apreamare shipyard demonstrates this perfectly by building its models, which clearly trace the history coming from the classic Italian fishing boats.

Proton 28

The perfect tender from Proton Yachting that would not exist without Trimm Design. There is also a model in light brown, but it was this model in blue that won. It seems difficult to come up with something more elegant.

Zeelander Z72

Zeelander Z72

These are unique Dutch-built sports cruisers. All three models of the line differ only in size, maintaining the general philosophy of the shipyard. From our point of view, Zeelander yachts are simply synonymous with luxury.

Mulder Favorite 1700

Mulder Favorite 1700

Of course, the Favorite 1500 series from this famous shipyard should also be here. Honestly, absolutely any yacht ever built by the shipyard can be added to this list. In addition to their incredible beauty, these yachts are class A. Of course, there is no doubt about their seaworthiness, since Vripack worked on the naval architecture.

Spirit P70

An excellent example of a modern classic, using the latest construction technologies and the most advanced onboard equipment.

Wallypower 58

Wallypower 58

Futuristic design in the yachting world is rarely beautiful. Usually it’s the other way around. However, the Wallypower 58 boat looks great and was unanimously accepted for this list.

Rivamare

As Riva states, this boat is the crown jewel of their shipyard. But she is also the crown jewel of our list of the most beautiful yachts in the world.

Wajer Yachts

All Wajer yachts are amazing and almost all models received the same number of votes with a slight advantage towards open boats. So we just added a photo at random. Apparently, this is the 55th model. However, you should know that Wajer hardtop yachts are just as beautiful, if not more beautiful, than these luxurious open tenders.

Inside the Viking Yachts Demonstrator Program

On a breezy day in June, Viking 64 —her right rigger full of flags—rounded the corner of the Intracoastal Waterway as the boat approached Toler’s Cove Marina in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The spartina grass on either side of the saltwater creek’s edge glowed fluorescent green in the afternoon sun, and the humid haze of a Lowcountry summer hung low and thick around the boat’s gleaming hull. Those driving across the nearby drawbridge might have assumed that the Viking Yacht Co.’s demonstrator team had placed in yet another tournament. Instead, the crew had just set an unofficial state record for blue marlin releases in a single day. Celebrating accordingly, the demo crew had just made history, a standard that Viking Yachts considers a fundamental component of company culture.

The Viking demonstrator program is one of the most widely recognized sport-fishing operations of its kind, with a long list of outstanding tournament performances and boat sales tied to its storied title. Pat Healey, Viking’s president and CEO , oversaw the establishment of the program 40 years ago; since then, not only has he watched it foster strong relationships with new and returning customers, but he’s also seen the operation build character and lifelong careers. While it’s now become a critical pillar of the company’s success, with a full-time captain and two full-time mates who travel the globe aboard the company’s most advanced builds, Viking’s demo program didn’t quite start that way.

The Founding of a World-Class Program

Healey first learned the value of these programs while working as a part-time mate aboard another company’s demo boat. Fresh out of high school, he’d spend the week working at Viking Yachts, which his father and uncle owned and operated. Then, on the weekends, he’d head out on ViCat , a Viking build that the local Caterpillar dealer used as a demonstrator. “While working on the ViCat , I started to see the benefit of having a boat available during the summer months that Viking could use to test new systems and to showcase new models to customers,” Healey recalls. “That’s when I started talking to my dad and uncle about the possibility of us building a demo boat.”

At the time, Viking built cruisers. Healey’s father and uncle had little interest in the fishing market. He, on the other hand, couldn’t resist the sport. In 1978, Healey’s father and uncle finally agreed to expand Viking’s suite of cruising models to include boats optimized for fishing. “We built a 40-footer with turbos and a Bimini top that we used during tournaments and for fun fishing,” Healey says. “I ran the boat for a couple of summers with a group of other young mechanics and sales guys who worked at the plant. After 150 hours each summer over two years, we started gaining success and attention with the fishing models.”

By 1984, Drew McDowell had taken over the helm of the demo program, a position he’d hold for the next 19 years. With the new operation in place, Viking’s team was able to compete at an entirely different level. Soon, leadership expanded the program to have a demo boat operating year-round. Meanwhile, Viking’s designs continued to evolve and adapt to the demands of the sport-fishing industry. The boats got bigger, and the systems grew more complex. To date, the company has fished 50 different demo boats ranging from 46 to 92 feet. Over the program’s 40-year history, those 50 boats have been critical hubs for owners, captains and mates to socialize and exchange ideas.

In his many years as demo captain, McDowell was responsible for boat design, testing, sales and, of course, tournament fishing. It was a big job and one that required world travel. In 2003, McDowell moved into a full-time position with Viking Marine Group’s newest endeavor, Palm Beach Towers.

In 2004, Capt. Ryan Higgins found himself at an interview that would determine the course of his life. “I was 24 at the time, and my interview with Viking was running the 65 demo during the Buccaneer Cup,” Higgins says. “We had an incredible tournament, which led to a job opportunity with Viking. I told Pat and Don Gemmell, another former demo captain and longtime member of Viking’s design team, that I wanted to be part of the design of the product, not just the demo program. Pat brought me up to New Gretna [New Jersey] to learn the product firsthand and work on the production line. I worked every stage of the line for the build of Hull No. 1 of the flagship 74 convertible. It was the best learning experience of my life.”

A few years into his career on the production line and as a mate aboard the demo program, Higgins moved up to the bridge as Viking’s demo captain. He’d hold that position for 15 years and in that time would also take on responsibilities as the demo program manager, a job that handles the administration and communication related to the operation. Much like McDowell, Higgins eventually moved into another position in the company. He’s now the Southeast sales manager for Viking Yachts and general manager for Valhalla Boat Sales, another division of Viking Marine Group.

The demo program has created an impressive pipeline for Viking. When they’re ready for it, the program’s crewmembers have been able to step away from full-time fishing jobs into other fulfilling industry-leading positions. McDowell, Gemmell and Higgins are examples of the caliber of employees that the program has fostered and built, all while promising vertical growth. That kind of climate is tough to find in all industries, and sport fishing is no different. And it was that high-profile career pipeline that locked in Viking’s newest crew.

Forming the Crew

New Jersey might be home to Viking Yachts, but the company’s demo program now boasts a full-time crew of fishermen born and raised in the South. Capt. Sean Dooley took the helm in 2021, with mates West Rivers and Thomas “Smalls” Garmany coming on board shortly afterward. They’ve proved themselves a formidable team, just as equipped to compete with the best as they are to talk trash to each other. They’re extremely talented and wildly fun, with a mix of Southern grit and charm that Viking welcomes.

Although he now lives in Charleston, South Carolina, Dooley got his start working on charter and private boats in his hometown of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Once he graduated from college, he worked as a mate for more than a decade, traveling to premier fishing destinations around the world. Dooley took his first turn as a captain in 2016 on a 63-foot Scarborough called Jackpot , a new program that would spend most of its summers fishing the South Carolina circuit with Garmany in the cockpit. Dooley and Garmany, who consider each other brothers, would ultimately lead that team to win the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series in 2019.

When Dooley was ready for something new, he got a call from a friend about a potential job opportunity and reached out to Higgins to see if he’d be one of his references. That call opened the door to an entirely unexpected and exciting opportunity for Dooley: a shot at becoming Viking’s demo captain. It was a career move he couldn’t pass up, so he made the trip to Palm Beach the next morning to interview with some of the demo program’s longest-running members: Healey, Gemmell, McDowell and Higgins. “When you’re considering any new job, you never really know what you are getting into,” Dooley says. “I’d known all of those guys for a long time, but not on a personal level. It turned out to be a hell of an interview. For two hours we talked about all kinds of things. It was all just so comfortable and easy, which helped me to make my decision when they offered me the job.”

As the captain, Dooley was given the freedom to select his mates for the program. Garmany was tied up in prior commitments to other boats, and Dooley needed someone to sign on right away. He lucked out when he learned that Rivers, Garmany’s childhood friend and the longtime mate aboard Fa-La-Me , was looking to make his next career move. Rivers was a natural fit for the program. Not only did the Charleston native have great experience already under his belt after fishing with prominent programs such as Rookie IV , Caramba and Fa-La-Me , but he also had the foresight to see the bigger picture. Rivers recognized that taking a job with the Viking demo program was not just a great opportunity, but it also offered potential longevity.

Garmany, however, still had some reservations about the job even after his schedule opened up. The exceptionally talented mate grew up fishing with his dad, Capt. Bobby Garmany, in Charleston. He’s worked for big-name programs such as Big Oh , Outlaw and Fish Tank . So when Dooley came to him with an opportunity to join the demo program, he wasn’t sure he was ready for a corporate gig. “Dooley sat me down and told me that this was what we needed to do together, that this was the right next move for our careers. He told me it was the best job in the industry. And he was right.”

Ordinarily, a captain and mate have years to get to know a boat, but that’s not the case for the demo crew. With boats cycling in and out of the program every three months or so, the demo boys never stop running. “One of the hardest things about it is having to switch out boats so often,” Dooley explains. “Each year we have a winter boat and a summer boat. Then, every other year, in addition to our one winter boat, we have two boats—an A boat and a B boat—operating at the same time in the summer, so there are a lot of moving parts to manage.”

That efficiency would come with perks for the crew. “Pat told us that the more we are willing to change boats, the more we get to go fishing,” Rivers explains. “Since we can’t put too many hours on a demo before it sells, if we want to get on the water every day, then we have to be ready to make those transitions. It’s a lot of work on the side, but we can load and unload a boat in a single day now.”

Fishing has always been a priority for Dooley, Rivers and Garmany. While Healey enjoys a day or two of downtime, he knows that his demo crewmembers are always chomping at the bit to head offshore. “I call them my thoroughbreds,” Healey says. “I can’t have them sitting around too long. We have to go out and run ’em.”

Each of those prized horses brings very different skills to Viking’s demo team. “Sean has the desire to catch more fish than everyone else, whether or not he’s in a tournament,” says Higgins. “He’s been a great addition to the demo team, and his success in just a short amount of time has been impressive.” Healey agrees and says, “Sean is loved by everybody. He’s always bopping around the docks and networking. He does a great job getting us on the fish, keeping the boat in excellent condition and running the program.”

While Dooley leads the program, Rivers steps in to run the B boat whenever Viking has two demos fishing at the same time. He’s widely recognized as a voice of reason among the three friends. Wholly professional and self-aware, he acknowledges that Garmany is one of the best fishermen working today, and he’s mature enough to realize that Garmany’s talents don’t diminish his own. He fills in where he’s most needed, and that’s why he’s become such an enormously valuable cornerstone of Viking’s team. “West was all in and committed immediately,” Healey says. “He’s always so focused and organized. He’s the glue that holds everything together.”

And then there is Garmany, an impossibly charming fisherman with a disarming laugh and a sense of humor akin to a hound on the trail. “Smalls is one pot-stirring son of a gun,” says Healey with a laugh. “But I’ve never seen a set of eyes on anybody like that.” Higgins agrees: “To say he is incredible in the cockpit is an understatement. He is always thinking and is faster than anyone I’ve ever seen. He is, hands down, one of the best.”

Worldwide Operations

Since taking the demo captain job, Dooley has absorbed the demo program manager responsibilities as well. In addition to managing the boat and addressing maintenance and fishing needs with the help of Rivers and Garmany, Dooley is now in charge of coordinating the program’s busy schedule. The crew splits time between boat shows, tournaments and international fishing destinations for more than 300 days of the year.

The tournament fishing team includes Viking’s upper management and members of the sales, design and engineering teams. But when fun fishing, the potential guest list expands. “First, Pat fills up whatever dates he’s able to fish with us,” Dooley explains. “Then we open up our calendar to the broker network with a mass email to all of our dealers, potential clients and past clients who are looking to purchase a bigger build or those who have been recurring buyers for years.”

Viking’s demo program offers brokers and their clients front-row access to one of the world’s most professional fishing operations. “The Viking demo crew helps to sell Viking’s customizable product,” explains HMY Yacht Sales’ Tim Gredick, who recently sold two demo boats and whom Healey describes as having used the demo program perfectly. “A team of that caliber showcases how best to use the tool and sets the standard for the kind of crew an owner might like to have in their program. Sean, West and Smalls make clients comfortable, answering questions and showing them a good time, all while proving the outstanding performance that Viking offers.” And that’s the real purpose of the program: to effectively show and sell world-class boats.

The question of who gets to fish the demo boat is almost just as important as where to send the boat next. The program matches the demo to the fishery and the customers in the area, so mapping out a year’s worth of builds requires careful planning. “Sean and his team always want to be where the bite is, and that’s what I love about them,” says Higgins. “Since they’ve come on board, the demo has been spending time in Bermuda, Cabo, Mag Bay, the Dominican Republic and several other great spots. And Pat’s sons, Justin and Sean Healey, are members of the demo fishing team as well, representing the next generation.”

Read Next: Meet Viking Yachts president and CEO Pat Healey in our exclusive interview .

Throughout a build, the current demo team also gets to offer their input on flagship designs and features for the engineers to consider, exchanging ideas and testing new models with the common interest of ensuring the best possible product. “We get to sit in on meetings and give feedback to the engineers,” Garmany says. “I’m getting to see all these aspects of the business that I’ve never been a part of before, which is pretty cool.” Rivers adds, “It’s been clear from the beginning that this company is Pat’s family. He takes care of the people around him, and he fully trusts us, which is important in any job. It’s great to be part of it all.”

As Viking’s demo crew continues to tack on accolades around the world, maintaining the notoriety Healey is proud to have seen develop over the program’s history, he can’t help but look ahead. “Sean, West, and Smalls are all such incredible fishermen. They’re a breed all to themselves,” he says. “When they first came on, I told all of them that this can be a lifetime job if they want it. I can see that they’re proud to be the demo crew. They’re all in. And maybe 10 years or so down the road, when they’re ready, they’ll bring in another crew. And then we’ll get to do this phenomenal cycle all over again.”

Andre Hoek’s 8 most beautiful sailing yachts

Dutch yacht designer Andre Hoek has such an impressive portfolio of superb sailing yachts that it’s hard to narrow it down to his best.

But on any list of the most beautiful sailing yachts designed by Andre Hoek should certainly be the cutting edge Athos . The 62 metre yacht was the largest sailing yacht ever built in aluminium alloy when she was launched by Holland Jachtbouw in 2010. While she might look like a beautiful classic sailing yacht on the outside, Athos is highly technical. This combination of beauty and brains makes her doubly impressive.

More about this yacht

Yachts for charter.

The exterior of Athos was inspired by none other than the 54.6 metre stunner Adele . Launched by Vitters in 2005, the aluminium sailing yacht boasts classically styled deckhouses and a prevalence of teak that helps her stand out in any harbour. She’s no slouch on the racecourse either, having participated in the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta in San Francisco, barely losing out to the similarly named Adela .

Where Adele shone with a bright white hull, Marie charges in like a gorgeous pirate ship with black paint, red details and a real cannons on deck. But the 54.6 metre Vitters yacht isn’t all gruff, inside her luxe saloon she houses a real sailing yacht rarity of a baby grand piano. One of Andre Hoek’s most beautiful sailing yachts, _Marie, _currently for sale , was built for yacht owner Ed Bosarge , who also established the eco-friendly Over Yonder Cay in The Bahamas.

Wisp is a winning combination of superyachting and sailing , and she has proved herself as one of Andre Hoek’s most beautiful yachts by winning a bevy of awards. In addition to Hoek Design Naval Architecture taking the Exterior and Styling award at the ShowBoats Design Awards 2015 for Wisp , launched by Royal Huisman in 2014, the 47.65 metre classically styled stunner also went on to nab a World Superyacht Award in 2015 .

Who doesn’t love a J Class yacht? With graceful a sheerline, low-slung deckhouses and a private owner’s cockpit, the J Class replica Lionheart , built by Claasen, is all about throwback glamour and certainly one of the most beautiful Andre Hoek designed yachts on the water. Like all modern Js, her hull is based on the original 1930s design, but Hoek gave Lionheart an updated layout that makes her much more comfortable than most hardcore racers.

Of course, a designer who has penned a modern J Class yacht is in good standing to design a new class of yachts inspired by Js. Cue Firefly , the first in a new F-Class series that was designed to be the ideal size to compete against J Class sailing yachts and have the high performance of a maxi yacht. One of the most beautiful Andre Hoek sailing yachts, Firefly also stands out with her topless lady spinnaker, one of the best around .

Velacarina is another beautiful Andre Hoek designed sailing yacht built by Claasen . The 25.88 metre Claasen Truly Classic 85 was launched in 2005 and features exterior and interior styling as well as naval architecture by Hoek. Currently for sale, sailing yacht Velacarina features a clean exterior with a single deckhouse, an unusual green hull paint job and a traditional interior with plentiful teak.

Bartelli II

This petite classically styled sailing yacht by Andre Hoek is a real beauty. Constructed with a cedar hull, the 17 metre Bartelli II was launched by Combi Jachtbouw in 1997. Currently for sale, Bartelli II would make a sweet daysailer, welcoming guests in a highly varnished, cosy cockpit, or an equally apt overnighter with guest accommodations for six.

See inside Oheka Castle, the 127-room Long Island estate that inspired 'The Great Gatsby'

  • I took a tour of Long Island's Oheka Castle, an hour east of Manhattan.
  • It's the second-largest private home in the US and was built in 1919.
  • It's now a residence, hotel, restaurant, and events venue.

Insider Today

If you've ever read or seen "The Great Gatsby," you know 1920s New York was home to extravagant mansions with owners who hosted lavish parties.

One of those owners was financier Otto Hermann Kahn, who built Oheka Castle — named after its owner (Oh-He-Ka) — on Long Island in 1919.

Kahn's wife used to call the home "Otto's zoo," and that seemed to be an accurate description. A-listers of the time used to party at the 109,000-square-foot home, with Kahn as a Gatsby-like figure entertaining all his guests.

But Oheka's journey didn't end there. After Kahn's death in 1934, the property changed hands numerous times until it was abandoned in the '80s. Fires, vandalism, and theft devastated it.

According to Oheka Castle , land developer Gary Melius then purchased the estate and spent $40 million restoring it to its former glory.

Today, it's the second-largest private home in the US, behind only Biltmore House in North Carolina. It's a popular venue for weddings, a restaurant, and a hotel, and has been featured in movies, TV shows, and music videos. Taylor Swift even filmed the "Blank Space" video there.

You can also tour the grounds for $30.

I took the tour and was astonished by the beauty of Oheka Castle. Here's what it was like to visit.

Oheka Castle was built in 1919 by German-American financier Otto Hermann Kahn.

He paid approximately $11 million, or over $158 million in today's currency, for 443 acres of land in West Hills, New York.

Oheka Castle has been through a lot in its 100-plus years of history, and for anyone who wants to learn more, there are tours offered twice daily.

So, I decided to visit. All I knew about Oheka was that Kevin Jonas got married there and Taylor Swift filmed the "Blank Space" music video there.

But Oheka has a rich history. I learned all about it on a beautiful April afternoon.

When you drive to the entryway, it's a bit intimidating. There's someone working the gate who must let you in.

Then comes a long driveway. I felt like I was going back in time to the Gilded Age.

My first look at the main house was astounding — and yes, I mean house. Oheka Castle is the second-largest private residence in the US.

beautiful yachts inside

It's also on the National Register of Historic Places. It was added in September 2004.

When Kahn built this house, he had three requirements: He wanted to be high up, he wanted a view of the water, and he needed the house to be fireproof.

beautiful yachts inside

His previous house in New Jersey had burned down in a fire. Oheka, in contrast, is built entirely out of stone.

I went inside and waited in front of a grand staircase with the rest of my group for our tour to begin.

When it began, we saw photos of what the house looked like before it was restored by its current owner. We'd learn more about this later.

The first room we entered was this beautiful entryway with a mural of the sky on the ceiling.

beautiful yachts inside

The house itself is 109,000 square feet and has 127 rooms.

beautiful yachts inside

Many of the rooms are dedicated to showing off the home's history, like the Chaplin Room.

beautiful yachts inside

Charlie Chaplin was just one of the many '20s A-listers who hung out at Oheka. This photo shows Chaplin (right) with Kahn (center) and actor Douglas Fairbanks (left).

In fact, according to my tour guide, Jay Gatsby's wild parties in "The Great Gatsby" were inspired by what was going down at Oheka in the '20s.

beautiful yachts inside

This was Kahn's wife Adelaide's favorite room. Adelaide wasn't as big of an entertainer as her husband, but this sunny room was perfect for guests.

beautiful yachts inside

This ballroom is the only room that's not original to Kahn's time inside Oheka today.

beautiful yachts inside

But as you can see from the ballroom's windows, Oheka met Kahn's requirement for a view of the water. He used to dock his yacht there.

Kahn, who was Jewish, also built a golf course on his property — country clubs at the time wouldn't admit Jewish people or allow them to play.

beautiful yachts inside

After Kahn's death in 1934, the property was shuffled between owners. From 1948 to 1979, it was the Eastern Military Academy.

beautiful yachts inside

During those days, what is now the breakfast room was used as a gym.

beautiful yachts inside

From that room, we made our way to this huge library.

beautiful yachts inside

A portrait of Kahn hung above the fireplace.

beautiful yachts inside

Our final stop on the first floor was this room, which also houses a bar. Press clippings about Oheka adorned the walls.

Among the displayed articles was Danielle and Kevin Jonas' wedding spread in People. They got married at the estate in 2009.

Then we went upstairs to check out the hotel and bridal suite.

The bridal suite, which is on the fourth floor, opens with this mural-covered entryway.

A beautiful open room with windows allows wedding parties to take in the view of Oheka's well-manicured grounds.

The gardens at Oheka are breathtaking from above.

Here's the main bedroom of the bridal suite.

The primary bathroom has a bathtub and shower.

Then it was time to check out the gardens — and to learn what happened to Oheka.

beautiful yachts inside

When the Eastern Military Academy went bankrupt and vacated its premises in 1979, Oheka was left abandoned.

beautiful yachts inside

Residents who lived nearby were concerned about vandalism. One neighbor even took this statue for safekeeping and returned it when Oheka was restored in the '80s.

beautiful yachts inside

Land developer Gary Melius purchased Oheka in 1984 and spent $40 million restoring it to its former glory.

beautiful yachts inside

The gardens were originally designed by the Olmsted Brothers, best known for helping with Central Park.

beautiful yachts inside

Melius used those original sketches to restore Oheka.

beautiful yachts inside

These statues were tracked down at an auction and are thought to date back to the Renaissance.

beautiful yachts inside

Now, it's a beautiful wedding venue, hotel, restaurant, and home — Melius keeps an apartment on the third floor.

beautiful yachts inside

As I left the grounds, I got one more look at the restaurant and its courtyard.

beautiful yachts inside

I would highly recommend taking a tour of Oheka. As I viewed its stunning surroundings and learned about its unique history, I felt like I was traveling back in time.
