MSC Seashore

I tried a ship-within-a-ship cruise experience and it was worth it for the endless perks—here’s why

The MSC Yacht Club affords travelers a totally different cruising experience, but you’ll have to splurge.

Erica Lamberg

I heard tales of luxury from people about the ritzy MSC Yacht Club , the ship-within-a-ship concept where discerning passengers enjoy their own area of the cruise ship that includes a dedicated restaurant, private lounge, separate pool and sundeck as well as private butlers and concierges to take of any whim while cruising. The elevated Yacht Club boasts priority everything while sailing MSC.

I sailed on a four-night cruise on the new MSC Seashore, a glitzy ship with Italian flair intermingled with references to New York City at every turn. Although the ship was well-appointed and had amazing dining, drinking and entertainment venues, and a bountiful Top Sail main buffet, thousands of passengers made the ship feel crowded at times, elevators were slow, and as I strolled through the general pools, they were boisterous and crowded.

RECOMMENDED: 10 things about cruising on an adults-only ship that might surprise you

Switch gears to MSC Seashore’s Yacht Club, passkey-protected for lucky guests, and is a 180 from the ship’s general spaces. Once you scan your handy Yacht Club wrist badge, or your room key, you’re instantly given entrance to a breathtaking retreat of 131 staterooms and suites. All this luxury does come at a price. Cruise fares will vary based on destination, time of year, and cabin category, but generally speaking you can expect to pay double for the Yacht Club. And from my experience, it’s worth it. Read more about why you should splurge.

You’re fast-tracked through everything

The Yacht Club’s exclusivity and impeccable service standard started from the moment I got dropped off at the Port Canaveral cruise terminal. There were hundreds of people waiting to board at 1pm on embarkation day. I saw in the distance a canopy that said MSC Yacht Club. My husband and I wheeled our carry-on luggage to the representative under the canopy. I gave her my name and within two seconds, she gave me a sticker to wear and up we ascended on the escalator to check in. Just five minutes later, I was directed to the dedicated check-in area for Yacht Club guests. To my right, I saw about 1,000 people serpentine through ropes to do general check-in. I felt a sense of relief; who wants to wait in that line? Five minutes later, a butler from the Yacht Club insisted on wheeling my luggage to board the ship and I was in my room in a total on 12 minutes from the time I stepped foot out of the car to my stateroom in the Yacht Club.

Relaxing and streamlined

In addition, Yacht Club guests have the freedom to get off the ship first for excursions. Your butler will happily escort you off the ship with a smile. Guests also can disembark on the last morning first, which is a big convenience. Your butler walks you right to the place you disembark, bypassing crowds and hassles. Port Canaveral is about an hour away from Orlando International Airport, and we took a 10 am flight home. We didn’t have to linger around until the afternoon for our flight home.

Another perk is that there’s a special seating area in the theater for shows. All the shows were excellent during my voyage. All other ship passengers have to make reservations in advance for shows but that’s not the case for the privileged Yacht Club passengers. As long as you arrive about 10 minutes before any show you choose, a crew member from the Club will allow you entry into a special roped-off section. Again, no rushing through dinner—you have the flexibility to plan your evenings your way.

MSC Seashore

Your Yacht Club package is packed with remarkable value

The price tag may sound daunting, but there’s lots of value there. All Yacht Club cabins and suites include a premium drink package that covers beverages up to $15. You can use this perk both in the Yacht Club and throughout the ship. In addition, your package includes a two-device Wi-Fi package, which worked well during my sailing. Finally, you get access to the thermal spa suite, which is a place to indulge after a day in port or a sea day. Commonly, there’s a taboo regarding mini-bars, but not in the Yacht Club. It’s stocked each day with the beverages you want; just tell your butler and consider it done.

You get perks ashore too

If your sailing includes a call to Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island, Yacht Club guests get an elevated experience there too. Yacht Club guests enjoy a private area, and a dedicated restaurant called the Ocean House. While other ship guests were hosted to a buffet of predictable fare, I enjoyed a lobster roll, and my husband chose carne asada. In my opinion, one thing that could be improved was the tram service to the Yacht Club’s private area. We were told the last tram back was 3:30pm if we didn’t want to trek a 15-minute walk in the heat. Since we were docked in Ocean Cay for the evening and weren’t sailing, I was a bit dismayed by this logistical quirk. I felt like I was keeping an eye on my phone to make sure I didn’t miss the last tram.

You have private areas with curated food and drink and outdoor spaces

Within the Yacht Club complex, there’s the Yacht Club Restaurant, Top Sail Lounge and the One Pool Buffet, which are all exclusive to Yacht Club guests. Obviously, the food and service are steps above other dining venues of the ship, I can vouch for that. Although the food is delicious, if you don’t want to pay extra to dine at the specialty restaurants or fuss in the main buffet, eating three meals a day in the Yacht Club restaurant can get a bit monotonous. The breakfast is the same daily, and lunch and dinner offer a menu with daily specials plus a few standby selections like a hamburger or pasta each day. Although the Yacht Club Restaurant concept is desirable, I would strongly suggest dining in other venues on board, especially for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed specialty dining in Ocean Cay Restaurant, Butcher’s Cut, and Kaito Teppanyaki. I also want to mention that late afternoon high tea is offered daily at the Yacht Club Restaurant. It was one of the nicest I have experienced at sea.

MSC Seashore

Also available exclusively to Yacht Club passengers is the Top Sail Lounge, which offers panoramic water views and has chef-curated selections from morning through late night. We enjoyed popping into the lounge at all hours to try finger foods and sweets. The One Pool Buffet offers a more casual option for breakfast and lunch by the pool. The buffet has grilled fish, sandwiches and lots of delicious options if you want to dine outside.

There’s also an exclusive area with a private pool and two whirlpools for Yacht Club guests only. The sun deck loungers are very comfortable and I never had to worry about finding a lounger, there are ample. One issue I had was that there was almost no shade on the sun deck; there were shaded day beds for Royal Suite and Owners Suite guests, but beyond those, I couldn’t find any shade, which was disappointing.

You can justify the price at the end of your cruise

Overall, the best way to explain my enthusiasm for my MSC Yacht Club experience is this: it’s better to book an interior stateroom in the Yacht Club than a luxe cabin outside the Yacht Club. It’s worth the splurge and you return home feeling truly pampered and it’s money well-spent. And I make this prediction: Once you try a ship-within-a-ship concept like the MSC Yacht Club, you won’t want cruise any other way. Bon Voyage!

First MSC cruise (on the way to the 2nd and 3rd)

Aug 11th, 2023

Well, I know that I should have written this review earlier, but only now I had the time to pass my thoughts into something readable. This was my first MSC cruise, my first in a European company, my election cruise line until this experience was NCL. Just to let you know that MSC as a great dealbreaker, that is that they match the status that you have in any other cruise line, so it’s like you are not a newcomer to them and you can enjoy some perks from the beginning, such as 5% off in cruise final price. But let’s sail away. This time I’m writing regarding the MSC Bellissima that departed form Barcelona on the 3rd of December 2022. Check-in Well, I most say, it was the fastest check-in I ever had. Drop the bags, show the documents, went through security, and zap… I was in the ship, ready to hit the buffet. Cabin As always, as I want to make my life in the ship and not in the boat, and save some money, I booked an inside, and the cabin was just the right size, not smaller than any American company, the shower was great, and there was I kind of Alexa digital assistant called Zoe. Our steward was great, and the room was made twice a day, and everything we asked for was provided. Perks This as for my on of the cons of the cruise. I was used to be pampered up by NCL, in MSC I didn’t get any complimentary card from the Capitan, no sparkling wine or strawberries dipped in chocolate in the cabin (in my last NCL almost every day I could find a surprise). Around the ship their crew members always trying to sell you something (thermal suite, drinking package, speciality dinner, photographs) it tends to be a bit annoying but at the least with the massages you can bargain a little a get a good price/compromise service. Nevertheless, some more pampering would be appreciated… at least by me ???? Drinking package Another con, or not so much, let’s see… I bought the easy package (the cheapest) and it as classic cocktails, lower brand spirits, draught beer, bottles of water (both sparkling and still), sodas, wine by the class and juices. Ok, it’s probably just me, but I miss the American cruise cocktails, can’t leave without my Mud Slide… and for an Italian line Aperol/Campari spritz should be in the pack. Saying this is great that in every bar (except some speciality ones) you can pick a bottle of water, expresso, or cappuccino also. The beer being Heineken is also a good compromise, and the wine, even by the glass is not bad. Cocktails are bad… not because of the bartender, but because of the poor choice of spirits they use. But for real, with the price, can’t complain that much. Dinning Where I have mixed fillings. Because one of the things that I loved must about NCL was the freestyle dinning, meaning that we got to the main dinning room (MDR) whenever you want. In MSC, like in most of the cruise lines, they assemble you a table and a shift (first or second) as soon as you enter the ship. My fare allowed me to choose, and we choose the second shift, but they gave us the first, after a quick chat with the maitre d’hotel they changed us for the second (they are ready to do this, I think they try to push you to the first, if you don’t complain great, if you do, they fix it). But let’s go to what is important. FOOD The buffet was good and with a lot of variety. Fresh made mozzarella which is great. You can get the drinking for your package in several locations of the buffet, and they are fast replacing the food, nevertheless a bit more of understanding English would be appreciated. The buffet as also a vegetarian corner with some vegan options (my wife is vegan). In the MDR the crew was excellent, our waiter and team were just the best. And again, for me, as a chef, there where some good, some not so good, and other excellent dishes, the desserts not so much unfortunately, the assortment of breads is wonderful (miss that focaccia). But, and a good but this time, the VEGAN options are there, every day they had a vegan main (not vegetarian… vegan), no other cruise line does this. Just excellent, and (the extra mile) our waiter would always in the night before check with us about the appetizer, dessert and even entrée suggestion for the following dinner, that way my wife, as vegan, could have the same experience as wall the guests (something that doesn’t happen normally on other cruise lines nor even in some big five start venues onshore). Port-of-call Talking about ports, is more of the same that me and bunch of you already did, so I’ll keep it short. · Marseille (Provence) o Cruise excursion to Aix-en-Provence, small town, cosy and nice to take some pics. Everything went well and smooth and for December great weather. · Genoa o Easy walk from the port, aquarium just in you right hand side when leaving the port, old city just in front. Do on your own. · La Spezia (Cinque Terre) o In December is not worth to go to CT, so we went to Porto Venere, nice fisherman city, cold, very cold, but great views. · Naples o Crazy Naples, port in the city, if you want to live the atmosphere of Naples walk, be aware of pickpockets and cars that never stop in cross lanes. Easy train to Pompei if that’s you stuff. I love the city, the movement, the craziness, and for those you visited in the past it is way cleaner. · Palma de Mallorca o A typical beach destination… but is December… ok let’s discover the Island. Just pair up with another couple, rented a taxi for half day for 50 euros and discovered hidden parts of Palma. Finished in the cathedral and walk back to the port. Around the ship MSC ships are very beautiful, lots of Swarovski everywhere, it’s Italian if you get what I’m writing. They make a good balance between areas for youth and grow ups, with a couple of venues that don’t allow kids… having my whisky and expresso while watching the World Cup was great without kids running around. Inside whirlpools are also available, which was great in same days. Easy to move around, with lots of information everywhere. The con, people, yes… When will people learn how to use an elevator/lift, if you want to go up you press the arrow that shows up, if you want to go down you press the arrow that shows down, it’s even easier than peeling a banana, a still people fail on it… also, there are stairs, if you mobility is ok and it’s a short distance, just walk… it’s more convenient. Thermal SPA WOW… ok, the pass was not cheap, even bought a couple days before cruising, both it worth every cent. The area is great, clean, enjoyable, relaxing… just great. Lots of amenities like snow room, Turkish bath, European bath, exotic water, resting areas, dark sauna, Finnish sauna, and so much more. Entertainment Well, the main show in theatre is good, good performers, dancing, singing, but not so much Broadway style as NCL. I believe with time they will risk some more. The entertainment time was ok, not as engaging as some I found in other cruises, but some of them were trying harder than others. Let’s give them a break because it was December. Around the ship some music, table tennis tournaments, lets say more European, a bit of America or Caribbean vibe was needed. In a nutshell To wrap the review up just to say, a great a cruise line, with some space to make some improvements, I’ll do it again (6th October 2023 from Genoa in the Sinfonia), so until now they caught me ????. Planning already on in the Caribbean for 2024, try to the with Future Cruise (I kind of MSC Cruise Next). If we compare the prices, nowadays, MSC is considerable cheap than NCL, Carnival or RC and that’s an extra point, sure, you got what you pay for, and to be honest compared to previous experiences (excepted the cabin papering that NCL addicted me into) I believe I got more than what I paid for. And the opening mind and understanding of the VEGAN concept is already a must, and I can’t understand how the other lines don’t capitalize on this. To finish, be ready to hear the announcements in four or five European languages instead of just English or Spanish, but, well, it’s a cruise, it’s a week on the see… lets Rock n’ Roll.

Very disappointing, unhygienic experience

Feb 12th, 2023

When: 1 feb to 8 feb from Napoli. Note: basic ticket is hundreds of euros cheaper for Italians (compare prices on their sites). Outdoor: Outdoor pool on deck 15 was dirty with hair and trash. The whole back half of the ship plus chairs were covered in soot, and nobody bothered to clean the deck nor the chairs, and it got worse by the day. I saw chunks of soot the size of coal on the deck where the water glides are. I've seen soot on other cruise ships, but it was always cleaned up immediately. Bars: Half of the deck bar is reserved for smokers. Hardly any quiet places. Sky Lounge was two times inaccessible due to 'private party'. Everything has a 15% charge, so a cocktail of 8 eur plus 15% = EUR 9,20. Quality of the food was low in the included restaurant (you get a table assigned, so you cannot go to the other included restaurants). After a couple of days we decided to only eat in the buffet, which had surprisingly better food. Restaurants: Staff didn't bother to tell people to wash their hands at the chaotic buffet Market Place, so probably only 1 out of 1000 passengers cleaned their hands. No plastic gloves. Also a lot of cooks didn't wear gloves. Running, coughing, sick kids. Many of the hand sanitizer stations were empty/not functioning. I did TUI Cruises, Celestyal, and Costa, and now MSC, but I'll avoid MSC in the future. I couldn't wait to leave the ship, and the biggest souvenir I got was a very severe case of the flu.

Just an incredible trip!

Feb 7th, 2023

This was my first cruise. I was astounded at the service and the ship. Easy to get around and the food was great. We used the Yacht Club. Fine dining for all three meals. Music and a lounge in the evening. Beautiful views from the front of the ship. A butler attends to your every need. Room cleaned twice a day. The staff helps you get on and off the ship. The room was great. Everyone was so nice!

A very memorable cruise in many ways

Feb 4th, 2023

We took an Arabian sea cruise on MSC's new ship, Bellissima in December 2019 just before the COVID-19 pandemic and I have to say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped on board, I was impressed by the ship's modern and stylish design. The public spaces were spacious, glitzy and elegant, and provided a welcoming environment to relax and socialize. The ship offered a range of dining options, from casual cafes and bars to more upscale restaurants, and I was impressed by the quality of the food and the attention to detail in the presentation. The accommodations were comfortable and well-appointed. Zoe, the digital cruise assistant was a great gimmick but could do with a lot of improvement. It was nice to experience, though. The entertainment on MSC Bellissima was truly exceptional. The ship offered a variety of options to keep us all entertained both day and night, from shows and performances to games and activities. The F1 simulator was my all time favourite being a petrol head. The shore excursions on MSC Bellissima were a fantastic addition to my cruise experience and provided a great opportunity to explore and better understand the destinations we visited in a unique and memorable way.

Ideal Mediterranean Cruise

Jan 7th, 2023

Excellent cruise for the ports of call, lots of full days off the ship which was nice. The ship is well appointed and they do a great job of entertaining and keeping you engaged if you would like to be. The rooms are sizable and clean. Great value for the money. Only complaint was the lack of options for food and drink. The standard dining was not very good.

2-3 cruises

This was the first cruise that my husband and I had ever been on, and it was such a great experience that we are already planning the next one. Many thanks to MSC and the super awesome staff members that made this experience amazing. We felt safe, comfortable, and well cared for.

Ship is new and clean, however staffs (except dining room staff) are not passenger friendly. Just ignore your existence.
