A sleepy town in the North District, Sha Tau Kok is home to Hong Kong’s longest pier and a street that sits on the border between our city and Shenzhen. For now, only the pier is open to the public on weekends—plus a bazaar selling Hakka speciality snacks and traditional handicrafts—but stay tuned for the next stage of reopening the area.

As part of the tour, a visit to neighbouring attractions Ap Chau, Kat O , and Lai Chi Wo is arranged. Now departing from Sha Tau Kok Pier, the boat rides are 15 to 20 minutes shorter, but you can still enjoy the salty breeze of the Starling Inlet nonetheless.

Hong Kong: Boat Tours Information

I stayed at the Regent Hong Kong, a 5-star waterfront hotel where rooms start at $600 a night

• My mom and I spent around $600 a night to stay at the Regent Hong Kong.
• Impeccable staff, delicious on-site restaurants, and sleek, modern room were highlights of our stay.
• Nothing beat the view from our room. 

My mom and I recently went on a 10-day trip to Asia , and our first stop was the newly renovated Regent Hong Kong.

It opened in the 1980s and has changed ownership a few times. Its newest renovation launched in November, shortly before my stay.

The Regent was a highlight of the trip, and we spent about $600 a night for the two nights we stayed.

Here's what the hotel was like.

We took a taxi from the airport to get to The Regent Hong Kong.

The waterfront hotel overlooks Victoria Harbor.

Many main attractions, including the M+ museum, K11 Musea, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and the Avenue of Stars, are located in this area.

When we arrived, we checked in at a glamorous quartz desk.

The desk has digital artwork behind it that staff told me was representative of the hotel's rebirth.

There were also gorgeous flower arrangements, unique pieces of art, and black tile throughout the space.

Although most of the hotel has been redone, the marble staircase is from when the hotel opened in the 1980s.

Even though the grand staircase is in the corner, it immediately draws you in because it differs from modern interiors.

It's large and ornate and contrasts with the wood and dark tones that were added during the renovation.

Our room was moderately sized, with modern details and a neutral color scheme.

The room was sized similar to a European hotel room . It wasn't too big or too small and had enough space for the two of us.

We were welcomed with some fruit and a bottle of sparkling wine.

The bathtub was especially unique.

I've never seen a cradle-like bathtub in a hotel before, and I loved it.

We also had a walk-in shower and branded-hotel robes and slippers for the stay.

Our room had a breathtaking view over the Hong Kong skyline and Victoria Harbor.

Our window was one of the best parts of the room. We had a fantastic view of the skyline and harbor.

Each night, we could watch the famous light show from the comfort of our room.

The "Symphony of Lights" show goes on at 8 p.m. each night and features a bunch of different buildings lighting up.

Each night, the skyline was also lit up beautifully.

The hotel has a bunch of restaurants on-site, including the Regent Club …

During our stay, we had access to the Regent Club. The exclusive lounge was on the second floor, overlooking the harbor.

It has breakfast service, refreshments throughout the day, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails with snacks.

We popped in here for a pre-dinner snack and cocktail each night. The selection was fantastic and the drinks were mixed up fresh.

... Nobu ...

Founded by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Nobu is a famed Japanese restaurant with locations around the world.

It's a hot spot for celebrities and is beloved for its sashimi and black cod with miso.

... Qura ...

We loved getting drinks at Qura. The trendy bar has a variety of seating spaces, each with a different vibe.

The cocktails were delicious, and we loved ending the night at this cool spot.

... The Steakhouse …

The Steakhouse at the Regent Hong Kong is known for serving fine wines and cuts of meat. It looked very romantic inside.

Reservations for this spot open two months in advance.

... The Lobby Lounge …

The Lobby Lounge was packed with people for the afternoon tea service each day. The big spreads of food looked super decadent.

During the evening, the space transforms and has a wide selection of wines, elaborate charcuterie boards, and other appetizers.

... Harbourside …

Our stay also included breakfast, which was held at Harbourside. It consisted of a lavish buffet with different cuisine options, ranging from Western to Indian.

There was freshly made dim-sum, a soup station, an omelet station, and much more. The options felt endless when it came to breakfast.

Harbourside also serves a lunch and dinner buffet.

... and Lai Ching Heen.

Lai Ching Heen is a beloved Michelin-rated dining option that specializes in Chinese Cantonese cuisine.

The property also has a fantastic rooftop pool that I imagine would be lovely in the summertime.

I visited when it was a bit colder, around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, so we didn't go in the rooftop pool or hot tub.

However, both looked amazing, and there were tons of lounge chairs in the space. I imagine this spot gets super busy when it's warm outside.

I also found a gym outfitted with Technogym equipment.

The gym was filled with fancy Technogym equipment, which is found in many high-end spas and facilities.

The hotel's spa was not yet open when I visited.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at The Regent Hong Kong.

The central location made our first visit to Hong Kong super simple. We were able to get around the city super easily and hit all the spots that we wanted to visit.

The modern design, luxe amenities, and bevy of restaurants also made it a memorable experience.
