TRIPLE SEVEN Specifications

The interior design of this stunning vessel features many details inspired by the number 7, most precisely 777; her hull number, which is a lucky number in Germany, thought to bring great success and satisfaction. Particularly of note are the seven bullet-proof forward–facing windows on the main deck with a unique shape making them appear almost as giant sevens, allowing huge amounts of light into the owner’s suite. Etched sevens can also be found subtly adorning a floating spiral staircase in the yacht’s center. The owner’s suite is highly innovative and comprises a separate office/library with a hidden fold-out bed that turns into an extra cabin when needed. The suite also hosts a hidden security closet and his and hers dressing areas that are connected by an immense bath carved from Portuguese marble.

Spaces are large and airy within Triple Seven yacht’s interior. The main salon is one unbroken space that extends from the foyer to the aft deck where a large circular bar occupies most of the aft end of the main deck. The bar features a glass wall behind that drops down to allow service to both the salon and the aft deck and creates a space-occupying almost one-third of the yacht. Divided into six usage areas, this space encompasses the bar, a formal seating area, outdoor cinema, open sun-pad lounge, a dining area and a casual lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows. The sun deck is completely open except for a day ahead and emergency generator room and hosts a retractable gazebo with tables for alfresco dining. Luxury superyacht Triple Seven's most spectacular feature is found forward. A large circular sun pad that tops the coachroof and is convertible into a helipad with a certified 18-ton crash load. Aft brings a large Spa Pool surrounded by more sun pads. Located mere steps from the water and astern of her yacht tender garages is a fashionable beach club; a teak space equipped with a gym, lounging area, and bar. With a steel hull and GRP superstructure, TRIPLE SEVEN can comfortably cruise at 15 knots, with a top speed of 17 knots, thanks to the twin MTU 16V 4000 M60 diesel engines. She boasts a beam of 12m (39.37ft) and a draft of 3.55m (11.65ft).

Superyacht Influencer Unveils Design for Mogul 777

By Danny Wiser

The Yacht Mogul & Ucal Abbasli Design have teamed up to design a 77.7m motor yacht.

Norwegian superyacht influencer Denis Suka has designed a superyacht concept alongside Azerbaijani naval architects Ucal Abbasli Design.

Known as ‘The Yacht Mogul’ on Instagram, Suka has been gaining a cult following on social media with over 750,000 followers.

His design for Mogul 777 features a pool in her beach club area that can be seen through her transparent aquarium installed directly into her deck surface.

In fact, her beach club area is immensely spacious and functional thanks to huge glass openings installed on its side which can be opened and be used in order to connect the beach club area to the sea.

With an additional swimming pool in her owner’s deck, which at her bow contains a touch and go helipad, the owners would be guaranteed a luxury experience on board.

If privacy is a concern, then Mogul 777 has got her owners covered were they to increase the beam to 14m as she can have space for an additional owner’s deck with a forward facing suite that has panoramic views over the bow and access to a private outside deck area.

Designed with sporty and sleek lines, the intention behind her design is to connect her 18 guests with nature and the sea.

Though her interiors are fully customisable to suit guests needs, one feature that guests are bound to love are the ample social spaces on her aft.

Mogul 777 comes with a maximum speed of 17 knots and is constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

MOGUL 777: THE 77m SUPERYACHT CONCEPT FROM THE YACHTMOGUL IN COLLABORATION WITH ABBASLI DESIGN

Yachting influencer Denis Suka, better known as TheYachtMogul, has teamed up with Abbasli Design to present a 77.7 metre superyacht concept named Mogul 777.

The Mogul 777 is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure and is equipped with a number of cool features, including a glass-bottomed aquarium that hangs over the beach club, a fire pit on the upper deck and a touch-and-go helipad on the bow. Its exterior is sporty with triangular windows along the hull and the concept "aims to connect  to connect owner and the quests with nature and the sea."

The main deck features two L-shaped sofas that sit to either side of the central aquarium that floods the beach club below with natural light. Large panels of glass on three sides contribute to the “open feel” of the beach club, creating an indoor-outdoor experience for guests who wish to make use of its swimming pool (which comes with its own waterfall).

For guests who prefer to start the day with a swim in the sea, two fold-down terraces offer direct access to the ocean, or alternatively, a hydraulic swim platform drops down to water level from the stern.

According to Suka, the best part of the yacht is the large social area aft of the upper deck where the owner can "host parties and spend time with friends and family”. The space features ample seating made up of day beds, sun pads and a central fire pit surrounded by curved sofas.

Elsewhere, a helipad can be found on the foredeck and sits forward of a dedicated owner’s swimming pool - the second pool on board - flanked on either side by sun pads. Up on the sundeck, a Jacuzzi completes the water features on board alongside additional seating and sun loungers.

Making use of its 14 metre beam, Mogul 777 is set to have accommodation for 18 guests in nine cabins, including a master suite situated on the private owner’s deck with panoramic views and access to the private pool.

The Mogul 777 will have an estimated top speed of 17 knots.

Mogul 777

After unveiling his first superyacht concept in 2020, Norwegian influencer Denis Suka, a.k.a. The Yacht Mogul , has penned another amenity-packed vessel for fellow yachting connoisseurs.

The Instagram star, who has some 763,000 followers on his profile, joined forces with Abbasli Design for the new concept christened simply Mogul 777. The numerical designation denotes the superyacht ’s length, which is an impressive 77.7 meters (or 255 feet) from tip to tail.

Suka’s latest creation is not just big, but beautiful, too. With a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, the vessel is replete with sleek, sporty lines and has striking triangular windows along the hull. As you might expect, it also packs an array of lavish features onboard.

The luxurious 255-footer boasts two pools, a beach club, a Jacuzzi and an aquarium  The Yacht Mogul/Abbasli Design

“We believe we’ve added everything on this project so the buyer couldn’t wish for anything extra,” Suka told Robb Report in an email.

The yacht’s interior, which can be customized to the new owner’s liking, offers space for up to 18 guests across nine cabins and the master suite comes complete with an spacious owner’s deck. Suka says the expansive outdoor entertaining area located to the aft of this deck is the best part of Mogul 777, clearly designed for socializing. It features a central fire pit surrounded by curved lounges, as well as plenty of day beds and sun pads. To the bow of the owner’s deck, meanwhile, there is a touch-and-go helipad to facilitate comings and goings and a large swimming pool offering sweeping views.

The main deck is fitted with another aquatic marvel sure to stand out on the ‘Gram. Sandwiched between the two L-shaped sofas aft is a glass-bottomed aquarium designed to showcase not only the colorful marine life within but the beach club below. In an impressive feat the aquarium hovers directly above the swimming pool, with a waterfall seemingly linking the two.

Mogul 777

The superyacht’s glass-bottomed aquarium overlooks the beach club.  The Yacht Mogul/Abbasli Design

To create a sense of flow between indoors and out, the club itself is equipped with large glass openings on three sides and fold-out terraces. Elsewhere, there’s a hydraulic swim platform to the stern that gives direct access to the ocean and the pool. To top it all off, the sun deck sports a rooftop Jacuzzi flanked by sun loungers.

In terms of performance, Suka expects Mogull 777 to have the capabilities to reach 17 knots at full tilt, but who really cares about speed when you’ve got two pools and a Jacuzzi.

MOGUL 777 – Superyacht Influencer Concept

superyacht 777

Denis Suka (a.k.a. @theyachtmogul) , whom we had the opportunity to present you in one of the previous issues, turned his passion for yachts into a dream he is living in. As one of the most prominent yacht influencers, he has more than 790,000 followers on social networks and his love for superyachts has reached the next level by presenting a new concept in cooperation with Azerbaijani maritime architect from Ucal Abbasli Design

superyacht 777

Since our last conversation, the number of your followers has increased significantly, which clearly shows that people find you inspiring, and 2022 has crowned your work with the project called MOGUL 777. Tell us more about the beginning of the idea of this spectacular concept?

Indeed it has been a while since our last conversation and during that time I have been of course working hard on my profile to attract and inspire more people into the yachting world. Not long after I gave my interview with NAUTIKA I launched a 90 meter yacht concept and exactly one year later I returned with a magnificent 77.7 meter yacht concept “MOGUL 777”. There are always ideas coming to my mind on bringing something new into the world of yachting, so I wanted to come up with a new yacht design. I was lucky enough to partner with Ucal Abbasli Design Studio, so we joineded our ideas and created “MOGUL 777”, which received a very good feedback from media worldwide, and yacht figures. We believe soon to see our yacht concept making its way to a shipayard where the yacht will come alive for an exclusive buyer to complete their “dream yacht”. Denis Suka , Superyacht Influencer

superyacht 777

Ucal Abbasli Disign has turned your vision into tangible designs. How did the connection and today’s successful cooperation come about?

I always follow new designs, and I saw some of the Ucal Abbasli yacht concepts. I really liked the way he designs them so I sent him a DM on Instagram to tell him how much I like the yachts, and asking him if he would be interested in launching a yacht concept in collaboration with with me. He was very kind to accept and so we been working for a while to come up with a really nice yacht concept which I believe we did based on people’s interest. Denis Suka , Superyacht Influencer

superyacht 777

The Mogul 777 project looks grandiose, in every part and in each detail. Can it be said that this is your dream yacht?

Definitely yes! I would always tell the designer to add features that I would like to have on my dream yacht, so when someone owns this yacht, they will not only have a beautiful yacht, but also my ideal yacht figure combined with a dedicated work and skills of a great designer. Denis Suka , Superyacht Influencer

superyacht 777

After the presentation of the Mogul concept, you stirred up the nautical world, which can be noticed in the reporting of certain media. What is the general impression, now that several months have passed since the unveiling, and will we perhaps see this superyacht in real-life size?

Well, to be honest, it made quite a noise at that time in yachting world and a lot of attention from the media, which wrote several articles, and I promised to come back with something even better. I am 100% into yachts, which means I started with my Instagram profile, then I launched a yacht concept, then I decided to get into yacht sales, and made my first sale within a month followed by other sales to satisfied clients, and then again with new yacht. The word “MOGUL” stands for the top and it is my responsibily to maintain my name and develop it in every aspect in yachting world and beyond – why not! We are having quite some interest on the “MOGUL 777”, which I believe might lead to a potential buyer and we can soon see this beauty getting out of a shipyard to sail the seas and oceans. Denis Suka , Superyacht Influencer

superyacht 777

Tell us something about your plans for the future, are you preparing some new projects?

My future plan is to be involved even more in yacht sales and new build, which means we are definitely going to see more new and spectacular yacht projects be launched under “MOGUL” name. I want to see my projects come alive for buyers that are open to explore the ocean. Denis Suka , Superyacht Influencer

CASCADING DECKS, WATERFALLS AND HELIPAD

MOGUL 777 is a 77.7m (255ft) superyacht concept with the sporty/sleek lines which aims to connect the owner and their guests with nature and the sea. This idea lead her makers to create open and funcitonal open spaces yet with engaging experiences. The yacht has 2 swimming pools, one outdoor on the owner’s deck and one indoor in the beach club, while on the sun deck there is a jacuzzi with panoramic view. In the bow area of the owner’s deck there is a touch and go helipad, while the aft area boasts huge open social spaces. This is the best part of the yacht where her owner can host parties and spend time with family and friends.

superyacht 777

Furthermore, increase to the beam (14 m) has allowed an additional owner’s deck with a forward facing suite that has panoramic views over the bow and access to a private outdoor deck area with the pool.

superyacht 777

On the main deck an aquarium is fitted directly into the deck surface, between the aft seating areas, which is transperent, so you can see through it directly to the pool in the beach club area. Also, at the pool in the beach club you can enjoy the natural light coming through the aquarium.

superyacht 777

The yacht has functional and spacious beach club area thanks to installed huge glass openings in her side. The glass panels can be opened and with transformable platfroms can be used in order to connect the sea and beach club area. Interior is fully customizable according to the owner’s needs and has impressive levels of accommodation with flexibility for up to 18 guests.

It can reach a max speed of 24+ knots. Construction materials are steel hull and aluminum superstructure.

3-4-3 to Moscow: Flying Aeroflot's 777-300ER in Economy

Javi Rodriguez

[tpg_rating tpg-rating-score="66" ground-experience="2" cabin-seat="16" amens-ife="11" food-bev="16" service="21" pros="Professional service (for the most part), good value for money and more amenities than expected in coach." cons="Dismal ground experience at JFK T1, cramped configuration and hit-or-miss food." /]

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

After returning from a whirlwind trip to China in June, it was time to begin piecing together yet another marathon trip that would have me spending more time in the air than on the ground -- which, to me, sounded like a dream. After hours of planning with help from other TPG team members, we were settled on all but one leg of the journey: We needed to find a positioning itinerary from the US to the Middle East, ideally in economy, as costs were sky-high across the board and award availability from the US was slim.

Russia's Aeroflot emerged as the top contender. The airline serves several key US markets and has an expansive connecting network to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The 96-year-old airline has historically been quite conservative with its network growth, especially in the US, but serves 146 destinations across the globe with its fleet of about 250 aircraft. Plus, if you've searched transatlantic fares on Google Flights, you know that Aeroflot consistently tops the results with the cheapest fares, even at the last minute.

I've often been asked for my opinion on Aeroflot by hesitant friends and family weighing their travel options. Up to now I had never flown with the Russian airline, so I always pointed to its good safety record and modern fleet. Finally, though, it was time to find out for myself.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BzIYhp_B4so/

I had a Wednesday evening departure from Abu Dhabi, so I was aiming to depart the US on Monday afternoon and arrive in Abu Dhabi at sometime on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Aeroflot doesn't offer service to Abu Dhabi, but they do fly twice daily to Dubai, a mere one-hour cab ride down the Persian Gulf coast.

When searching Google Flights, I noticed that Aeroflot's cheapest fares were routing on their New York-to-Moscow flight, even if departing from a city where it offers nonstop service (Washington, Miami or Los Angeles). The airline codeshares with Delta, a SkyTeam partner, for all feeder flights within the US.

superyacht 777

I settled on a $1,062 one-way fare from Washington, DC, to Dubai, connecting through New York (JFK) and Moscow (SVO). The three-segment itinerary was operated on Delta Connection E-170, Aeroflot B777-300ER and Aeroflot B737-800, respectively.

As always, we booked the trip using The Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns Membership Rewards at a rate of 5 points per dollar when booking airfare (directly through airlines or through American Express Travel; up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year). The $1,062-purchase yielded 5,130 MR points, worth about $102, according to TPG's current valuations.

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Ground Experience" tpg-rating="2" tpg-rating-max="10" tail="VP-BGF" age="6.3" departure="14" departure-2="15" duration="9" duration-2="10" live-tv="0" tailcam="0" headphones="0" comp-alcohol="0" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" /]

My morning started with an 11am departure from Washington Reagan (DCA) to New York (JFK) with Delta Connection -- an easy and uneventful flight of just 50 minutes. Delta operates out of both Terminal 2 and 4 at JFK, while Aeroflot exclusively uses Terminal 1, so I knew I'd need to change terminals once I arrived. After touching down at JFK, the Embraer E-170 pulled into gate C67 at JFK's Terminal 2, where upon deplaning, I happened to catch a glimpse of my next ride getting tugged into its gate after arriving from Moscow.

superyacht 777

Unfortunately there is no airside connection between Terminals 1 and 2, so the transfer involves exiting the terminal, walking outside along the departures-level driveway, and re-entering through security. I had about two hours of layover, so it wasn't a big deal, but it's definitely something to consider for those with tighter connections.

About 15 minutes after getting off my Delta flight, I arrived at the Terminal 1 departures hall.

superyacht 777

Aeroflot operates three daily flights between JFK and Moscow, making it the airline's busiest long-haul route with up to 1,105 daily seats each way. My particular flight, SU101, was the first flight of the day with a scheduled departure time of 2:15pm. I reached the counters just after 12:30pm and they were busy as expected.

superyacht 777

There were no self-service kiosks, so all passengers were required to visit the counters for both check-in and bag drop. The business-class and Sky Priority lanes were fairly empty, but there was a long queue for economy check-in with a likely wait of at least 15 minutes.

superyacht 777

Luckily, the Delta agent in Washington, DC, had issued my boarding passes for all three flights through to Dubai. I had everything I needed, so I proceeded straight to security.

superyacht 777

...or so I thought. After glancing at my boarding pass, the TSA agent turned me away, saying, "Delta doesn't fly out of this terminal." I tried explaining that my ticket was for an Aeroflot flight to Moscow and my boarding pass had simply been printed by Delta, but to no avail. She insisted that I needed an Aeroflot-issued boarding pass to go through security.

I walked back to the check-in desks and explained my situation to the employee guiding passengers into the queueing area. Since I was checked in and my bags were already tagged and on the way, he kindly offered for me to use the empty SkyPriority counters rather than waiting in the lengthy economy line. The counter agent happily printed my boarding pass and I was back at the checkpoint a few minutes later.

superyacht 777

I'm no stranger to the horror stories coming out of JFK's Terminal 1. Long lines, angry people, crowded spaces -- my expectations were low, but even then, I figured, "How bad could it be?"

superyacht 777

Just as I entered the queue for security, they closed two of the four open lanes and the lines instantly doubled in length. I ended up waiting nearly 20 minutes to reach the X-ray machine only to have my bag flagged for further inspection, along with a dozen or so others. I waited another 15 minutes until it was finally my turn to have my bag inspected, only to have the X-ray machine break down as the TSA agent was pulling up the scan.

superyacht 777

The agent apologized and said she'd have to run the bag through again in the adjacent lane, which dragged out for another 10 minutes or so. Finally, over 45 minutes after initially getting in line, my backpack made it through (without getting flagged again).

Now with the security debacle behind me, I was hopeful that Terminal 1 could redeem itself. I made my way down the concourse, which had a fair number of food and shopping options to choose from. I got an up close look at the sleek 777, registered VP-BGF, that would be operating my flight to Moscow that afternoon. It was delivered new to the airline in April 2013 and serves major gateways like New York, Shanghai, Beijing and Los Angeles from Aeroflot's Moscow hub.

superyacht 777

The Gate 6 podium posted an on-time departure and the agents were making occasional announcements that boarding would begin around 1:35pm, exactly 40 minutes before our scheduled pushback time.

superyacht 777

For boarding, Aeroflot offers Business Class, Sky Priority and two standard economy lanes (rows 17-37 and rows 38-51). Although the signage didn't explicitly state it, Premium Economy passengers were eligible to use the SkyPriority lane.

superyacht 777

The Aeroflot ground staff began inviting passengers to line up in their respective groups about 15 minutes before boarding was scheduled to begin.

superyacht 777

The 403-seat 777 was completely sold out, so as boarding time drew closer, passengers began flooding into the area, and the boarding lines kept growing.

superyacht 777

A Korean A380 and Saudia 777 began boarding across the hall at Gates 5 and 7, so the concourse walkway soon resembled an indiscernible sea of passengers.

superyacht 777

With three wide-body jets now simultaneously boarding more than 1,000 passengers combined, the crossfire of announcements made it difficult to tell which gate was boarding which zone. I didn't hear the agent make an announcement for economy-class passengers, but I just followed the pack once it started toward the podium. It turned out the two economy groups board back-to-front, i.e., rows 38-51 followed by rows 17-37. My assigned seat was 35K, so I was one of the last people to board the aircraft.

superyacht 777

All 19 of Aeroflot's 777s sport the 3-4-3 configuration, which, unfortunately for flyers, is becoming the new norm among airlines except for a handful that are bucking the trend, like Delta and Singapore Airlines.

superyacht 777

The cabin was outfitted with Aeroflot's traditional color scheme of bright orange-red and dark blue. The seats were upholstered with cloth, which I tend to find more comfortable than leather.

superyacht 777

The standard adjustable headrest was simple but did the trick. It held its shape pretty well throughout the flight.

superyacht 777

Each economy-class passenger had a pillow, blanket and small amenity kit waiting on their seat.

superyacht 777

I measured the seat pitch at roughly 32 inches, which is pretty decent. I fit comfortably in my seat with some extra room between my knees and the seat in front.

superyacht 777

What did prove to be a problem, however, was the seat width -- I measured just 17 inches between my two armrests. Since the 3-4-3 configuration is squeezing in an entire extra seat per row over its 3-3-3 predecessor, I really began to feel the narrowness after a few hours in the air. It seemed like my neighbor and I were constantly bumping shoulders unless I was leaning against the window.

On the flip side, I found the seat recline to be quite generous, and with a 32-inch pitch, it didn't feel particularly cramped when the seat in front of me was reclined either.

superyacht 777

The seat-back tray table folded out in two sizes. The smaller tray was especially convenient for sipping a beverage without needing to bring out the full-size meal tray.

superyacht 777

It was plenty large enough for my 13-inch MacBook Pro with some elbow room left on either side.

superyacht 777

Each seat-back boasted a 9-inch IFE touchscreen, original from the aircraft's 2013 delivery. It certainly wasn't modern, but despite its age, it was fairly responsive. There was also a latched IFE remote stowed right beneath it.

superyacht 777

SeatGuru says Aeroflot's 77W doesn't have in-seat power, which is partially true. There was no standard AC outlet, but each seat had a USB port located just to the right of the seat-back screen. I was pretty bummed to find out mine was broken after plugging in my phone and getting no charging response.

superyacht 777

Except that it was only partially broken -- later in the flight, I discovered that I was able to charge my AirPods case without any problems, but still not my phone. My seat neighbor was able to charge all of his devices, so I guess I just got unlucky with a half-broken USB port.

superyacht 777

Like many foreign airlines, Aeroflot does not offer personal air vents on its 777 fleet. In this case it wasn't an issue for me as the cabin was kept comfortably cool for most of the flight.

superyacht 777

The 324 economy seats were spread out across three mini-cabins, which cumulatively shared eight standard-sized bathrooms. They were kept decently clean throughout the flight.

superyacht 777

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Amenities and IFE" tpg-rating="11" tpg-rating-max="15" screen="9" movies="156" tv-shows="97" live-tv="0" tailcam="No" wifi="0.30" wifi-2="0.27" headphones="Yes" comp-alcohol="0" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" /]

Aeroflot's provided pillow and blanket were great quality and very comfortable, which made sleeping in the tight seats a bit more feasible, especially since I had a window to lean against.

superyacht 777

I was amazed by the amenity kit Aeroflot provides in economy class. It was stocked with a small bottle of lotion, earplugs, an eye mask and even a pair of slippers.

superyacht 777

The bathrooms offered some additional amenities, including a bottle of hand lotion and toothbrush kits.

superyacht 777

Small earbuds were also handed out shortly after takeoff. I forgot to bring my own, so I used them the entire flight – they were OK quality.

superyacht 777

The IFE had a great variety of movies (both Hollywood and foreign) and plenty of TV shows. It also offered games, audiobooks, music and a decent flight tracker.

superyacht 777

Unfortunately my IFE screen became a bit glitchy about midway through the flight, which made it difficult to use the touch navigation. Luckily, the remote still worked, which was an easy workaround.

superyacht 777

Aeroflot's entire long-haul fleet is equipped with onboard Wi-Fi, but it is expensive, starting at $5 USD for a small 15-minute or 10MB session, going all the way up to their $50 "infinite" plan, which didn't have a time limit but had a data cap of 150MB.

superyacht 777

I originally went for the smallest plan, but I burned through it almost immediately after connecting with one sync of my email inbox. I bought another small plan to run a quick speed test, which returned a download speed of 0.27Mbps and upload speed of 0.30Mbps.

superyacht 777

Needless to say, the Wi-Fi left a lot to be desired. Each webpage took 1-2 minutes to load, and at times, they wouldn't even load at all.

superyacht 777

On the bright side, the online portal had a "News" tab, which was a pretty neat alternative to live TV. It offered plenty of "breaking news" to keep yourself up to date with the world 30,000 feet below.

superyacht 777

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Food and Beverage" tpg-rating="16" tpg-rating-max="25" live-tv="0" tailcam="0" headphones="0" comp-meal="2" comp-alcohol="Yes" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" /]

About 70 minutes after takeoff, the dinner service began with a round of beverages, anything from juice and soda to beer and wine. I started with red wine.

superyacht 777

A full hour after the beverages were served, the flight attendants began delivering the hot meals. There were two options: chicken with rice or beef macaroni. I went with the former, and I was pretty happy with my choice. The chicken was actually well-cooked and quite flavorful. The entrée was accompanied by a small side salad, plastic-wrapped bread roll, and a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Overall, the meal was well above average for what you typically find in economy class.

superyacht 777

The trays had been delivered with a plastic "mug" for tea and coffee, which were offered at the tail end of the meal.

superyacht 777

Less than three hours after the dinner trays were picked up, the cabin lights were turned back on and the beverage carts were brought through the aisles with a round of drinks before breakfast.

superyacht 777

Although the dinner service was a hit, the breakfast was a big miss. My entrée was a scoop of rather unappetizing eggs with a single cherry tomato and piece of broccoli. The small side salad with a cold piece of fish didn't do much for me either, so the strawberry Nutrigrain bar was really the highlight. The other entrée selection was a crepe, which didn't look great but in hindsight was probably the better choice.

superyacht 777

In general, it's difficult to find a decent hot breakfast in economy, which I guess is why more carriers are resorting to a cold continental breakfast instead -- typically some combination of yogurt, cereal and breakfast pastries. I would've been happy with something of that sort, especially since this was just three hours after dinner had been served.

[flight_stats ticket-class="econ" review-stat-section="Service" tpg-rating="21" tpg-rating-max="25" live-tv="0" tailcam="0" headphones="0" comp-alcohol="0" extra-pillows="0" turndown-service="0" blurb="Aeroflot's service was a bit of a mixed bag, but with more positives than negatives. " /]

Service on this flight was extremely slow-paced, which is especially inconvenient on overnight transatlantic flights where passengers need to maximize sleep. The dragged-out meals on either end of the flight left less than three hours of uninterrupted time in between, which is unnecessarily short given that the total flight time exceeded nine hours.

superyacht 777

But although the service wasn't particularly speedy, all of my interactions with the crew were enjoyable. They spoke fluent English, which was definitely useful since a large portion of the passengers on board were American. The flight attendants weren't particularly warm, but they definitely were friendly enough -- more important, they were highly meticulous and professional in their duties.

Arrival and Transit

We touched down in Moscow about 20 minutes ahead of schedule. Our 777 taxied past the main terminal and came to a stop at a remote stand. We deplaned via air stairs and were bussed over to the arrivals-processing area.

superyacht 777

Although US citizens typically require a visa to enter Russia, the Moscow airport offers a sterile transit option that allows connecting passengers to bypass immigration requirements by staying airside. The transit was painless -- I was able to make my 90-minute connection with plenty of time to spare.

superyacht 777

Unfortunately, my bag's transit wasn't as seamless. Upon arriving in Dubai I was informed that my bag was left behind in Moscow but would be expedited overnight to my hotel in Abu Dhabi, 80 miles away. I was a bit uneasy since I was due to catch another flight from Abu Dhabi less than 24 hours later and figured if I wasn't reunited with my bag before then, it'd likely be a few weeks before I see it again. Thankfully, my bag was delivered to my hotel room door by 7am the next morning, a huge relief. Delayed baggage is an annoying reality with air travel, but the way Aeroflot handled the situation was as good as could be expected.

superyacht 777

Overall Impression

Aeroflot offers solid value for your money. As 3-4-3 configurations are becoming the norm on 777s, the airline's economy class ranks about average when stacked up against other carriers. The food was hit or miss, but the professional service and solid amenities make it an attractive option for jetting to Europe and beyond.

Boeing 777 Makes an Emergency Landing in Moscow After Engine Warning

Pilots diverted to an airport in Moscow after an indicator warned of a possible engine failure on the airplane, a week after engines failed on two other Boeing jets.

superyacht 777

By Andrew E. Kramer

MOSCOW — A long-haul Boeing 777 airliner made an emergency landing in Moscow on Friday after pilots received an indicator warning of possible engine failure, Russian officials said, reviving concerns about the Boeing planes .

An engine failed last weekend on another Boeing 777, scattering debris over the Denver area, while a similar mishap occurred on a Boeing 747 cargo plane over the Netherlands. Both planes managed to land safely.

Both of those equipment failures involved Pratt & Whitney engines, raising concerns about metal fatigue in the fan blades of the engines, some of them dating to the mid-1990s. But the plane that landed in Moscow was equipped with different engines, made by General Electric.

The plane, operated by a Russian company, Rossiya Airlines, was flying from Hong Kong to Madrid when it diverted to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport shortly before 5 a.m. local time.

A regional division of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported the landing on its website. The airport’s director had alerted the emergency services because “an instrument light activated for failure of the control channel for the left engine.”

The plane was being operated mostly as a cargo flight, carrying 36 metric tons of cargo and 25 people, the report said. “The aircraft landed safely and nobody was harmed,” it said.

It was unclear whether the engine indeed malfunctioned or the instrument light activated incorrectly. The Russian report also did not clarify whether the pilots shut down the engine before landing.

Boeing said on Sunday that all 128 of its 777 jetliners equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines of the type involved in the Colorado incident, the PW4000 series, would be grounded worldwide. The 747 involved in the accident in the Netherlands was powered by a different type of Pratt & Whitney engine.

Pratt & Whitney engines were also the focus of concern in an episode in December when an engine problem forced a Japan Airlines plane to turn around shortly after taking off from Okinawa.

Rossiya Airlines is part of the national flag carrier, Aeroflot, and like its parent company operates a fleet of mostly Western-made planes. It flies 10 Boeing 777 airplanes, according to the airline’s website. Boeing and Rossiya Airlines did not immediately return calls asking for comment about the incident.

Boeing: A Company in Turmoil

Settlement Violation: The Department of Justice said that Boeing was in violation of a 2021 settlement  related to problems with the company’s 737 Max model that led to two deadly plane crashes in 2018 and 2019.

A New Investigation: The F.A.A. has opened an investigation  into Boeing after the plane maker told the regulator that it might have skipped required inspections involving the wings of some 787 Dreamliners.

A Huge Loss: Boeing reported a $355 million loss  for the first three months of the year, as it deals with a quality crisis stemming from a Jan. 5 flight during which a panel blew off one of its planes.

A CEO to Fix Boeing: The plane maker, which is searching for a new chief executive, is likely to consider a small number of people , including several former Boeing executives.

Mishandling Parts to Meet Deadlines: A former Boeing manager said workers at the company’s Everett factory felt such pressure to keep production  moving that they would find unauthorized ways to get the parts they needed.
