Sailchecker and Becharter, Barcelona are a great team

The Sailchecker team were brilliant in setting us up with the Becharter team in Barcelona at the Olympik Marina on a fabulous Beneteau Tempest II. All went well and we were looked after throughout. The marina personnel were helpful and nothing seemed beyond them. A wonderful team and we'd highly recommend Sailchecker and the Barcelona Becharter guys as a best in class yacht charter organisation. PS The Parclick car park just 200 metres from the marina offers weekly flexible 'come and go' tickets for a week at one of the lowest priced locations around.

Absolutely great service all the way

Sardinia- great sail location

Chris and his team at Sailchecker were extremely professional and friendly in the process of booking our bareboat charter for Sardinia. Our initial choice of boat became unavailable. The team worked hard to offer us a suitable replacement that we could sail. Sardinia did not disappoint. So many beautiful options for marinas and anchorage’s. We had an amazing adventure. Amazing group/experience

What a great experience working with the Sailchecker team. This trip was such a different type of trip than our group was all used to, but you all were patient in answering all of our questions, so that we could get it right. The transportation, Ultra sailing personnel at the port, our crew and the boat were all wonderful. Sailing on Galapagos catamaran with skipper Alen in Croazia

Grat catamaran, comfortably furnished. Good sailing tools , all motorized one person can sail alone. The itinerary was perfect: rovac, korkula, meleda, lastovo, vis, hvar in one week. Our skipper Alen was very experienced, friendly, helpful, he always gave us good Advices and lead us to the best sailing week ever. What a blast

When I was invited to 'go along for the ride' with a friend to Greece (Saronic coast) with Sailchecker, I had no idea what I was letting myself in for, but wow!, what a blast we had ! What an amazing boat, (Bali 49), great company, awesome skipper, outstanding food (onshore and onboard) , attentive hosting service.. we had a lot of fun. We had limited sailing during my particular trip (weather) but we visited some stunning locations along the way including stunning Poros and Hydra. Chris and his team were fabulous ; Kate was a star; Thank you all and hope to see you all again soon for more adventures.

We had a very good experience

We had a very good experience with Sailchecker. Everything was as promised from our first inquiry through the trip. Prior to the trip, Sailchecker did a nice job of giving us very clear logistical information and helping with transfers. They were responsive to all our questions in a timely fashion. Sailchecker uses local operators, in our case in BVI, and we found the local operator to be well run and delivered on their promises. No surprises is what you want! Our skipper in particular was 5 star.

Sailchecker is great but Kate is simply stellar

I didn't expect anybody can make a better deal then me contacting charter agencies on my own, negotiating and bargaining - but Kate did it. Kate got a best deal in these Covid-19 days and I'm happy to tell this to everybody. Throughout entire engagement and later on our sailing trip I was taken care of by Kate and everything was in order regarding money, boat and treatment. Sailchecker save the day again!

We have booked bareboat through Sail Checker several times. Kate is so thorough and is always available to help find your ideal boat. We just returned from Seychelles and found all the covid measures to be really good, sending temperatures daily to base and all the snorkelling gear sterilised, masks were provided as well as gloves and gel. We feel very comfortable booking through Sailchecker, they are now our go to when we are sailing. We booked this trip at absolutely the last minute due to ongoing uncertainty, it was glorious to get away for a while.

Family holiday in Greek Islands

Had an excellent experience sailing with Sailchecker in the Cyclades. Despite sailing along with our 10 and 11 year olds, we felt safe and relaxed in the knowledge that we were in good hands. The balance between having fun, learning 'the ropes' and getting to see as many places as we could was just right. Logistics of transfers and boat collection worked well. South Ionian island sailing experience

The most amazing week sailing the South Ionian islands expertly organised by Kate and the team. No detail too small in the organising and the advice on boat size, facilities etc really made our week, especially with the heatwave in Greece. No AC would have been challenging! Local team in Lefkas with our skipper and hostess were also amazing - we said the types of things we wanted to see and do and they made it all happen. From a reservation at the best restaurant for dinner in Vathy on Megalisi to a night swinging on the anchor in a protected mooring in N Kefalonia west coast. The week surpassed my expectations and we have all been bitten by the sailing bug. Thanks again to Kate and the team at Sailchecker and to Yannis (skipper) & Loukia (host) who looked after us so amazingly for the week.

The company was efficient and had…

The company was efficient and had excellent customer relations. We had a problem that initially was not handled well leaving us without an engine. They could have been more helpful in the beginning as we were left to sail back to the base against a head wind taking more than twelve hours. We were met at the entrance to Palm Cay and towed in to a berth. The following day I discussed this with the base manager and she apologised and subsequently offered compensation without any hesitation.

Great service!

Great service! The team from Sailchecker has been extremely responsive and helpful throughout. We can highly recommend them. However, be careful to read the fine print if you haven't booked a boat before. The boats are equipped with the basics only. Our boat did not have any cushions for the cockpit. We initially booked a boat located too far north in Croatia although we mentioned sailing in the Split area. Sailchecker immediately rectified it.

Hooked on Sailing

I had a wonderful time sailing in Greece last week. Elpida was an excellent resource person who answered all of my questions promptly and efficiently during the planning stages. Polis and his son Jason were professional, friendly, and caring hosts on the trip from Lefkada to Athens. I learned more sailing tips and appreciated their confidence in my abilities to allow me to carry out different tasks on the sailboat. The boat was comfortable, clean and in good condition. I enjoyed swimming most days in the pristine Agean and Ionian Seas. I am hooked on sailing and look forward to my next sailing adventure.

High Quality Customer Service

We were introduced to SailChecker through a friend of ours that had booked with them a catamaran charter in the Greek islands in 2019 and had a terrific time. Their boat was a Bali 5.4 with a permanent crew on board. We decided to do the same as we were going to be a family with 3 kids and we needed some extra space and comfort. Our initial booking was for 2020, but unfortunately, we couldn't travel due to covid-19 related restrictions. Chris and Kate helped us reschedule our charter easily and securely, and we just got back from an amazing holiday. Already working with Kate on a charter for December 2021 in the Caribbean.

I have just got my skipper licence, I never chartered before and my family never sailed. Sailchecker Guided the Process

Sailchecker helped find a boat at a competitive cost for a bare boat charter through Spanish Virgin Islands, and then confirmed equipment (i.e., dinghy, motor, navigation gear, galley, grill ...) and final details for the charter. We were welcomed on arrival, boat was in perfect condition, briefing was on time and of high quality to put the final details on the islands of interest to be visited, and there were no surprises with the final billing. Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
