Open days at hampton pier yacht club.
The Open Days are an opportunity to see the club, talk to members and, if the weather is kind, get out sailing with an experienced sailor. We have spare life jackets, so all you need is suitable clothing to wear in the boat - "suitable" of course does depend on the weather, however as a minimum we recommend old shoes/trainers, a change of clothing in case you get wet and a splash-proof top. Unfortunately we don't have spare wetsuits, but of course you can bring your own.

Hampton Pier Yacht Club
Membership fees.
The 2024 prices are below. Please note that there is no joining fee.
Adequate personal buoyancy must be worn whilst participating in all club events and safety boat duties.
Sailing Membership
Sailing members have voting rights and are expected to undertake sailing duties .
For novice and intermediate sailors, the Club runs free training over the season based on the RYA level 2 course.
Social and "Non-Sailing" Membership
Social members don't have voting rights and are not expected to perform sailing duties , otherwise the rights and expectations are the same as for sailing memberships.
Those wishing to join the Club and use it as a base for activities such as kayaking and open water swimming should apply to join under this category.
The Club only permits the use of non-powered water craft and reserves the right to restrict some types. Kayaks, Canoes and Paddleboards are all permitted. Contact us if unsure.
Boat Parking, Sail Locker and other charges
Boat parking and sail storage is only available with a sailing membership. Space is subject to availability and not guaranteed. The Club reserves the right to reallocate parking or move boats as it deems necessary.
Discounted Fees
If joining part way through the season the following discounts apply
This applies just to the annual membership fee and is only available to new members. Other fees, such as boat parking, are at the full rate.

Our History
In 1903, Hampton’s boating enthusiasts founded the Virginia Yacht Club and in 1906 issued stock and erected a clubhouse on pilings at the foot of Victoria Boulevard. Interest dwindled during the Great War and the clubhouse fell into disrepair. In 1926, six men, not associated with the Virginia Yacht Club, formed the Hampton Yacht Club (HYC) and were ceded gratis the property of the old club. Since that time, HYC has been a yachting and social center of the Virginia Peninsula.
Power, as well as, sailboat racing were featured competitive activities in the early years with the Virginia Gold Cup being awarded for powerboat racing from 1933 to 1949. The club sponsored sailing events from small boat regattas featuring its own Hampton One Design sailboat to ocean racing events such as the 1941 Storm Trysail Club – HYC race from New London, Connecticut to Hampton. In 1995, the club sponsored the fifty-fifth running of the Virginia Cruising Cup from Annapolis to Hampton. However, HYC is considerably more than a yacht club for racing sailors. Sailing is truly a family affair, from the family of crew who laugh and party with each other after the Wednesday night and weekend races, to the families who cruise for a day or a week or more to explore life on the Chesapeake and beyond.

July 2023. For the second year running, Hampton Pier Yacht Club will be hosting the annual ActiveLife Pier to Pier Swim. Registrations and secure bag storage will be at the Clubhouse. Competitors will also have use of the Club's changing rooms and toilets, plus refreshments and "energy bar" snacks will be available.

The Hampton Pier is over 100 years of age ( a pier was originally constructured on the site as far back as 1882) and sadly, like so many along this section of the coast has been neglected and now closed. Many are seeking its refurbishment. It sist next to the Sandringham Yacht Club and pokes out into the Marina in this small and cluttered bay.
The water by the Club is partly sheltered by the old Hampton Pier and a nice place to start a trip up or down the bay. Kayakers and canoeist can simply join as social members or of course with a sailing membership and mix both activities.
