Horizon yachts update regarding covid-19.

In light of the rapidly evolving situation surrounding the novel coronavirus COVID-19, Horizon Yachts is implementing several precautionary measures out of an abundance of caution for our clients and employees.

HORIZON YACHTS HEADQUARTERS

Thanks to the extremely rapid response and safety protocols implemented by the Taiwanese government at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak, the Horizon Yachts headquarters and shipyards in Kaohsiung are able to continue business operations as normal.

HORIZON YACHT USA OFFICE

Following local government guidelines, Horizon Yachts USA has resumed regular office hours in our North Palm Beach location. We strongly encourage appointments for any in-person office visits and require all visitors to abide by local mandates currently in effect. Boat showings and sea trials in the Fort Lauderdale office will continue by appointment.

The health and safety of our entire Horizon family, from our owners and their families to our staff and friends, remains our top priority. We will continue to closely monitor the coronavirus situation and remain committed to mitigating risk wherever possible. It was 1947 when Bob Derecktor began with a simple plan and a small shop in Mamaroneck, NY. His goal: build boats the equal of any in the world, and do it without compromise.

Today, the record says he and the yards he founded have done just that. Notable vessels ranging from America's Cup winners to massive mega-yachts to rugged Coast Guard cutters have come from Derecktor.

 Just as  remarkable is the way the business has evolved. That first shop has grown to three full-service facilities ranging the length of the East Coast, and a fourth currently coming online in Fort Pierce, Florida. And, while still among the world's best builders and still a family business, today we offer customers a variety of benefits from complex refits to destination marinas.

What has not changed is a driving determination to do it right. Which is why when most American boatbuilders that were around all those years ago are now but distant memories, Derecktor is thriving. And still right on course.

Our company headquarters, 25 miles north of Manhattan in Mamaroneck, New York, was the original Derecktor yard, founded by Bob Derecktor in 1947. Today, the site remains our new construction base and continues to offer repair services for a wide variety of yachts and commercial craft.

Boat seized in connection with hit-and-run that killed Florida teen: Authorities

Ella Adler, 15, was killed while wakeboarding in the Miami area, FWC said.

Authorities in Florida said they have seized a boat believed to be connected to a hit-and-run that killed a teenager wakeboarding in the Miami area over the weekend.

Ella Adler, 15, was struck by a boat while wakeboarding near Nixon Beach in Key Biscayne Saturday afternoon, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

The teen had fallen in the water while being towed about a mile from shore and was waiting to be recovered by her boat when another vessel fatally struck her, an FWC spokesperson said. The boat that struck the teen did not stop, FWC said.

Following a dayslong search, FWC said Tuesday it has a boat matching the description given by witnesses of the striking vessel in their custody. The 42-foot Boston Whaler has been transported to an FWC evidence compound, the agency said.

The boat's owner and operator -- identified as a 78-year-old man from Coral Gables -- is cooperating with the investigation, FWC said. No charges have been announced in the case.

FWC had called in additional resources and "worked around the clock" to find the vessel, FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto said Tuesday.

"As a father and grandfather, my heart is broken for the Adler family," Barreto said in a statement. "Ella’s death is devastating for her family, friends and the community at large. The FWC and our partner law enforcement agencies will not stop until we have all the answers and the case is solved.”

The investigation remains ongoing. FWC called for anyone with information or footage to contact them.

"The world lost a star this weekend. Ella was beautiful and shined brightly. In her 15 years she gave us more light than we could have ever dreamed," her parents, Amanda and Matt Adler, said in a statement to ABC News. "While we cope with this unspeakable tragedy, we hope the public will help us find the person who took her from us."

Ella Adler was a student at Ransom Everglades School, a college prep day school in the Miami area. The school described her as an "outstanding student, a wonderful dancer and an active member of the Jewish Student Association and speech and debate team."

Boat operator who fatally struck a 15-year-old girl in Florida has been identified, officials say

MIAMI (AP) — Investigators have identified the man who was operating the boat that fatally struck a 15-year-old girl off a South Florida beach and then left the area, but no criminal charges have been filed, according to a report released Wednesday.

The 78-year-old man owns the Coral Gables home where Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers found and seized the docked boat Tuesday afternoon. The man was the only occupant in the boat at the time of Saturday’s hit-and-run crash that left Ella Adler dead, according to the commission’s report.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson said the investigation was active and they couldn’t speculate on what charges might be filed.

Adler and another girl were wakeboarding behind a 42-foot (13-meter) Hanse Fjord walk-around near Key Biscayne, just south of Miami, on Saturday afternoon before falling off at different spots, officials said. A dozen people had been on the boat pulling Adler. Before the vessel could return to collect her, Adler was hit by another boat, which immediately sped away, officials said. Witnesses described the hit-and-run craft as a center console boat with a light blue hull, multiple white outboard engines and blue bottom paint.

A funeral service for Adler was held Monday morning at Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach. Adler was a freshman at Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove and a ballerina with the Miami City Ballet.

Man accused of driving boat that killed girl had 'no knowledge' of accident, lawyer says

Authorities in South Florida have identified the person driving a boat in the hit-and-run death of 15-year-old girl over the weekend.

Carlos Guillermo Alonso, 78, of Coral Gables was piloting a 42-foot Boston Whaler in Key Biscayne when officials say his boat struck Ella Riley Adler , according to a Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission incident report obtained by The Palm Beach Post , part of the USA TODAY NETWORK.

According to the report, the girl was wakeboarding and fell into the water before she was struck by Alonso's vessel.

The man driving the boat left the scene without stopping, witnesses told the agency. Ella was retrieved by the other boat but died of her injuries, according to the report.

When was Ella Adler struck by a boat?

According to new information released in the report, Ella was struck wakeboarding in waters off Key Biscayne on Saturday afternoon.

Initial reports from the FWC indicated the girl had been waterskiing.

The agency reported Ella fell in the ocean  near Nixon Beach  while being towed about a mile from shore and was struck by another vessel at 4:30 p.m.

The beach is in Miami-Dade County about 7 miles south of downtown Miami.

Ella was wakeboarding behind a 42-foot 2017 Hanse Fjord yacht near a sandbar at the same time as another unidentified female on a wake surfboard rode, officers wrote in the report.

Ella and the other female being towed fell into the water at different times and locations.

While waiting to be recovered by her boat, another vessel struck her and fled the scene, officials said. A witness said the boat did not appear to swerve or slow down when it hit the girl.

Ella, who wore a life jacket, died from her injuries.

Who is Carlos Guillermo Alonso?

Alonso is 78 and lives in Coral Gables . The city is about 5 miles from downtown Miami. According to his attorney, Lauren Krasnoff, her client goes by the name Bill.

Investigators said it was unclear if Alonso knew Ella was hit or whether alcohol was a factor.

Krasnoff told USA TODAY on Friday Alonso does not drink and did not know he struck anyone on the water.

Here is a statement in full released to USA TODAY from his attorney:

"This is the worst possible tragedy and before saying anything else, we want to express our deepest sympathies to Ella Adler’s family and friends.

There have been numerous requests for Carlos Alonso, who goes by “Bill,” to make a statement. Because this is an ongoing investigation with which he is fully cooperating, he will not be making any statements to the media other than to say that he was beyond devastated to learn that he may have been involved in this awful tragedy.

I will tell you that Bill, who has been boating for 50 years and is a very experienced boater who knows these waters, was out boating by himself on Saturday. He has no knowledge whatsoever of having been involved in this accident. If he hit Ella that day, he certainly did not know it. Had Bill thought he hit anything, he absolutely would have stopped. But he did not at any point think that he had hit anything, let alone a person. He docked his boat in plain sight right behind his house. When Fish and Wildlife contacted Bill on Sunday, he did not know why they were reaching out to him. He did not even know there was an accident on the water the day before, but immediately met with law enforcement, spoke to them without a lawyer, and has been cooperating with law enforcement eversince.

Bill is 78 years old and came to the United States from Cuba in operation Peter Pan. He has never had any contact with the criminal justice system. He does not drink and was not drinking on Saturday, May 11, and he was driving his boat safely at a reasonable rate of speed.

Bill is a good man and he is absolutely devastated by the loss of this intelligent, accomplished and beautiful young woman. He has cooperated 100% with law enforcement and will continue to do so. As I said, this is an ongoing investigation. So we will have no further comment at this time."

The FWC reported Alonso's vessel was in custody on Tuesday and Alonso was cooperating with the investigation.

Has anyone been arrested in Ella Adler's death?

Officials did not say whether Alonso was facing charges in connection to the fatal hit-and-run.

They also did not say what day they located the suspect vessel.

Who was Ella Adler?

Ella, a ballerina, lived in Miami Beach, officials said, and attended  Ransom Everglades High School  in Miami.

"She was a force of nature, and when she was near, everyone felt a gravitational pull toward her," her obituary reads. "She loved to dance, she loved her friends, and most of all she loved her family."

She is the granddaughter of Michael Adler, the current  U.S. Ambassador to Belgium , according to the  Miami Herald .

She is survived by her parents, Amanda and Matthew Adler, and her younger siblings Jaden and Adalynn, and many other relatives.

Reward being offered in Ella Adler's hit-and-run boating death

A $20,000 reward − $10,000 from Ella's family and a combined $10,000 from FWC and Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers − is being offered for information in the case.
