All of their products are designed and engineered in Landrum, South Carolina and production takes place in Carver's state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. They are an industry leader in quality, performance and customer service.

ShoreTex , formerly known as Shoremaster Fabric, features the largest line of true custom patterns that are specifically designed for your boat and its added features. They have been serving the marine industry since 1989, offering custom fitted boat covers and boat lift canopy covers. Taylor Made

Taylor Made is known in the marine industry for its commitment to manufacturing quality products. Their line of trailerable boat covers are both mildew and UV resistant, and are available in two fabric choices:

• Hot Shot - Taylor Made’s Hot Shot fabric is a 6.25 oz. acrylic-coated polyester. Available in seven popular colors, this fabric is breathable, good for all climates, and is backed by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
• Ultima - This is the toughest fabric Taylor Made offers, their Ultima fabric. Constructed of 7 oz. urethane-coated polyester, Ultima fabric is three-times as strong as acrylic and has twice the breakpoint strength. This fabric is also available in seven distinct colors.

Westland has been manufacturing custom boat covers for over 40 years. Their handsewn covers are designed to be the highest quality available, yet at Wholesale Marine you’ll find them at an affordable price. Between three fabric choices, they have over 30 colors, so you’ll easily find the best match for your craft. Their three fabric options range from “better” to “ultimate”:

• Sharkskin Plus – Sharkskin Plus is a lightweight and durable fabric that is constructed of 100% 6.5 oz. acrylic-coated polyester. Available in ten different colors, this fabric is backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Every Sharkskin Plus cover is made in the USA.
• Sharkskin Supreme – Built for durability and long-lasting color, the Sharkskin Supreme fabric is breathable, water-repellent, and mildew resistant. This fabric is made of 100% 7.5 oz. solution-dyed polyester and is covered by Westland’s warranty for 7 years.
• Sunbrella - Sunbrella boat covers are the top of this line. This premium, long-lasting fabric is available in 20 fade-proof colors. Made in the USA, this fabric is 100% 9.25 oz. solution-dyed acrylic and is both breathable and mildew resistant. Sunbrella covers are covered under a 10-year warranty from Westland.

We use high-quality marine materials like Sunbrella Horizon and Ultra Leather for making upholstery covers. They are available with 52 custom CNC stitched patterns.

No, we do not recommend machine washing. You can however use a hose and a soft bristle brush for cleaning. Allow the cover to dry completely before folding for storage. Visit the Care & Maintenance section for more information.

Yes. Our boat covers are designed for all marine environments. We use canvas upholstery fabric that is resistant to UV rays, water, and stains. Even we use EZ Dri foam, which allows water to pass through quicker than standard foam materials.

We can ship anywhere in the world. Keep in mind that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations. Contact us for more information.

A: All Westland boat covers are sewn and reinforced to be trailerable with straps, with the exception of our drift, inflatables, and pontoon covers. How do I measure for the right cover?

A: Measuring your boat for the right Westland cover is easy! Start with a straight-line measurement down the center of your boat, from bow to stern. Does Westland make snap covers?

A: No. Instead of making snap covers, Westland secures all covers with a heavy duty unbreakable rope. How do I care for my cover?

How durable is the fabric?

A: All of Westland’s custom boat covers are made from high quality, durable Sharkskin polyester or Sunbrella acrylic materials. It seems ironic, but one of the most important things you can buy for your boat—which is made to take on the elements—is a boat cover to protect it from those same elements. The bottom line is that no matter how much you intend to use it, your boat will be sitting still and alone more than it’s occupied. Suppose you’re fortunate enough to have a garage, barn, or other building to house your boat. In that case, the rain, sun, and wind that otherwise wreak havoc on finishes and components may be kept at bay temporarily, but what about when you’re docked in a slip, staying at a hotel, or your marine technician for service?

Keeping the boat covered is often the best way to maintain its longevity and integrity. That starts with preventing oxidation and the intrusion of moisture, but there are far more considerations than just the weather: When trailering down a dirt road or through a construction site, an uncovered boat can fill up with all sorts of hard-to-remove particles. At a rest stop or motel, a cover won’t stop a thief or other ne’er-do-well from checking things out, but it might serve as at least a slight deterrent.

A friend of mine once left his boat at a marine dealer for an extended period for repairs—while it was safe inside the shop’s locked yard, and he kept the boat covered, he didn’t count on a battalion of feral cats working their way into his pride and joy through an opening at the back of the boat cover. A tighter cover would’ve kept him from having to smell cat urine for the rest of the time he owned the boat.

Invest in the best cover you can afford, and take into account your local climate, whether you’ll need the cover for trailering, and how to maximize coverage while minimizing abrasion. A custom cover from the manufacturer is often best, but they’ll often range from $1,000 to $2,000. How I Tested the Best Boat Covers

This assignment to write about the best boat covers could not have come at a better time for me. I’d just taken delivery of my 2022 bass boat but due to the supply chain issues that have plagued just about everyone for the past two years, my cover was going to be delayed by four or five months. An uncovered boat just wouldn’t fly, either when staying at a lakeside motel, or when taking my boat back to the dealership for a few after-the-fact add-ons. I needed that new carpeting and glistening gel coat to be protected from prying fingers and the spring rains that plague our area. At the same time, I didn’t want to invest a lot in a short-term solution. That left me in a position to put some lower and mid-range options to the test for short periods of exposure.

This budget cover comes in multiple sizes and colors with adjustable straps for perfect fit. Despite being bargain priced, this cover packs a lot of features into a single (included) storage bag. They include an elastic cord sewn into the bottom hem to keep a tight fit at the margins, trimmable quick-snap straps, and reinforced seams to handle a lot of weight and pressure. With the seats in on my 20-foot bass boat, there was still enough material to get over the boat’s edges and create a tented shape to force water off, although the straps still could not pull it quite tight enough to make it suitable for trailering.

This bargain-priced option does well for theft-deterrence and minimally inclement weather. It’s more than just a tarp, as the package includes double-stitched seams, an elastic cord throughout the bottom hem, and air vents to prevent the inside from becoming a terrarium. Probably not ideal for long-term storage in a blizzard, or for trailering, but this inexpensive cover will pay for itself the first time it protects your boat from prying eyes, rodents or a nasty rain storm.

Best Heavy Duty : Westland Select Fit Cover

The Westland Select Fit is a step up from the bargain-priced covers, with more features and more weather resistance to show for it. This heavy-duty cover, which comes in multiple lengths, beam widths, and colors, is a step up from the basic models that come at a fraction of a price. It’s immediately obvious why—more heavy-duty materials and a greater thoughtfulness about rub points and durability. As opposed to some of the less expensive covers, I might feel comfortable trailering with this one at 70 miles per hour, and be confident that it holds in the right places. At the very least, it will excel if you keep your boat outside in places where there’s either heavy snow, strong sunshine, or both.

Although this cover is bargain-priced and only has a limited number of straps, it fits remarkably snug on a wide range of boats, even if you’re loaded up with deck-top accessories like bulky trolling motors or graphs. It doesn’t have as many straps for full customization as some of the others in its class, but it does have an elastic bow strap and reinforcements at the windshield, where the trolling motor lies, and at the corners. That means your boat will be protected for both the short term and the long term.

For boaters and anglers who need 12-month protection through a range of conditions, this cover comes in at a price below many of the truly custom options, yet with many of the same features. It’s reinforced and padded in the right places, so it protects your boat against the elements and any other interlopers and can be trailered long distances with the confidence that it won’t result in scratches to fiberglass, aluminum, windshields, or graphs. Granted, the price isn’t insubstantial, but if it alleviates the fear of major damage or disfigurement, it is well worth it.

There are quite a few comparable and semi-customizable boat cover options at the bottom end of the price spectrum, and this cover offers lots of features that are only standard in covers at two or three times the price. Those include reinforcement strips and double stitching that will allow it to prevail over semi-inclement weather. Probably not the best choice for trailering or if you live in an area with consistent blizzards or hail, but this does the job and will pay for itself in no time in areas with only occasional bad weather. 

Things to Consider Before Buying the Best Boat Cover

Customization.

Does your boat have a poling platform? A high-mounted trolling motor? A windshield? Any of those factors can throw off a cover and make it tough to secure. You want your cover to be as snug as possible while not bringing undue pressure on any points that will suffer from it. If you have any of those options, it might be worth it to invest in a custom cover.

Water and UV Repellency 

The best boat waxes aren’t enough protection. If you’re keeping your boat outside—in a slip, in a yard, or outside of a hotel – for any period of time, you want to protect it against the harshest elements. If it lets in water or fades over time, the cover has not done its job. Most covers will lose some level of waterproofness over time and can be treated with appropriate over-the-counter products, but out of the package, even an inexpensive one should be fairly impervious.

Trailerability

I do not like trailering long distances with my cover on the boat as I feel it reduces my sightlines and often impedes gas mileage. Furthermore, if the cover is not fully secure and padded in the right places, trailering with it on can do damage to your boat, leaving scratch and swirl marks in obvious places. Nevertheless, when towing through a storm or places where there’s likely to be heavy dust and dirt in the air, covered trailering may be a necessity. Very few universal fit covers handle this job well, but some do it better than others.

Yes, you should cover your boat in the winter to keep it clean and prevent mildew or rust. You’ll thank yourself come spring.

Man gets realistic picture of his boat painted on a fence intended to hide it

A California man who was ordered to keep his boat out of sight has had the last laugh by commissioning an artist to paint a realistic image of it on the fence that obscures it.

Local government officials told Etienne Constable, of Seaside, California, in July that he had to build a 6-foot fence to hide the boat from view of his neighbors.

In a light-hearted jibe at officialdom, Constable decided to follow the directive, which said nothing about how the fence should be decorated, and asked local artist Hanif Panni to create a mural that makes it look as if the fence isn't there.

"I’m not a rule-breaker, but I like to make a political statement as necessary, as well as a humorous statement and a creative statement," he told NBC affiliate KSBW of Monterey Bay .

He is yet to have had any contact from the city about the mural — but he said he considers it to be covered by the right to freedom of expression as enshrined in the First Amendment.

"The reaction is extremely more than we ever expected, and we’re both just tickled about it," Constable said, referring to the stir the image has made on social media, where it has been shared many times.

Panni, who paints images across the Central Coast area, told KSBW: "I’m a big proponent of public art in spaces. It engages people in ways that reaching out and having conversations doesn’t sometimes."

And Panni added that since the Seaside boat mural has gone viral, other boat owners have approached him to see whether he can do the same for them.

O rdered to put his boat out of sight behind a 6-foot-tall fence, a Seaside resident and his artistic neighbor decided to paint a photorealistic mural of the vessel on the fence.

The idea for the little jab at City Hall was sparked a year ago when Etienne Constable received a notice from the city of Seaside requesting that he comply with a municipal code regarding parking restrictions for non-passenger vehicles, such as boats.

According to the municipal code , the boat needed to be behind a 6-foot-high fence, so it wouldn't be visible from the street.

Constable has been a resident of Seaside for 29 years and previously parked a sailboat on his property long before he put this vessel in the driveway. The 19-foot-long Arima 19 Sea Ranger, named Might as Well, has been on his property now for the last four years.

He said he was surprised and unaware of the city code about non-passenger vehicles.

"We've been here for a long time," Constable said, "and nobody had ever said anything before."

Last year, the city hired a community enhancement staffer to identify code enforcement violations throughout the city that needed to be remedied, said Nick Borges, acting city manager and Seaside police chief.

If the boat wasn't concealed, the notice stated noncompliance was punishable by a first offense of a $100 fee, according to Constable.

He started to look around his neighborhood and noticed that homes with fenced-in boats "didn't necessarily look good in my estimation," Constable said. But he didn't want to disregard the notice, either.

With a little brainstorming on how to put a creative spin on the situation, Constable reached out to his next-door neighbor, Hanif Panni, an artist who works with different mediums including murals.

Panni said he saw how upset his neighbor was by the situation, especially because Constable had to pave his driveway to install the fence.

"He kept asking for my input on the design of the mural and what it could possibly look like," Panni said.

At first they joked about having him paint a boat on the fence, a funny way to make the "eyesore" visible. Then they decided to do just that.

The feedback was almost immediate from neighbors and social media users who applauded the pair for their creativity and humor. Other neighbors have already asked Panni if he would paint their boats on their fences.

"Creativity is always a good tool to use against bureaucracy," Panni said, "if it's done thoughtfully and with the rules in mind."

Borges isn't offended by the mural, saying the creative response to the city's municipal code helped create a better relationship among neighbors.

"It does help cities like us get better" and identify whether some city codes should be enforced a certain way, he said.

Constable said he's tickled by all the positive attention the mural has gotten. He's seen drivers slow down to get a better look at it, and friends have called saying they've seen pictures of the mural online and recognize his boat.

"I've been laughing continuously for the last few days," he said. "It's just hilarious to me that so many people appreciate my sense of humor and way of looking at the work."

Annoyed by code violation, homeowner commissions mural to spite local officials

A California boat owner's ingenuity is gaining attention after he commissioned a mural of his vessel to sidestep demands from officials while complying with city codes in his own "tongue-in-cheek" way.

Officials in Seaside, California, told Etienne Constable the boat parked in his driveway needed to be hidden from view or Constable could face a $100 fine. So, the homeowner erected a fence in the middle of his driveway, hiding the boat.

Because the fence showcases a hyper-realistic mural depicting the 19-foot Arima Sea Ranger, the view from the street hasn't changed much. The "illusion," as the mural's artist describes it, lines up perfectly with elements of the real world, like shrubs, as well as the side of Constable's home, which is just northeast of Monterrey.

"This struck me as the right way to go, and something that makes my house unique," Constable told USA TODAY.

Next-door neighbor and longtime artist Hanif Panni painted the mural − and Constable paid him far more than $100 to do so, the artist said.

City Hall officials, rather than feel defeated by Constable's roundabout compliance, celebrated his idea.

"I applaud the constituent's creative approach, which not only addresses compliance but also showcases a community-driven solution," City Council member Alexis García-Arrazola told USA TODAY.

Artist relied on photos for hyper-realistic look

Panni said he was motivated to paint the mural because he wanted to help Constable jump through a "bureaucratic hoop" while complying with the rules in a creative way. Now, he said, passersby will be able to view art that didn't exist before, he said.

Panni, 42, and Constable, 61, took photos of the boat sitting in the driveway and the artist sketched out an outline on the fence before he began painting.

"It's kind of this illusion where you can see the boat, and what's behind it is mixed with the mural," he said, describing the final product, completed May 3.

Code violation for parking boat 'in public view'

In 2023, a Seaside code compliance specialist sent Constable a notice telling him he was in violation of a rule prohibiting residents from parking boats, RVs and trailers in public view − including vehicles parked on private property.

To avoid a fine, Constable needed to erect a screen or other covering shielding his boat from the street.

Such ordinances ensure large vehicles, which can be difficult to maintain, are hidden from sight to keep overall property values high, City Manager Nick Borges told USA TODAY. Sometimes, Borges said, vehicle owners don't do a job good of cleaning up leaking oil and other sanitary problems tied to vehicles.

“There’s an importance to some of these codes, so that doesn’t occur," Borges said.

At the time Constable received his notice about the boat, Borges said, the city was ramping up its code enforcement efforts after years of letting violations fall by the wayside. As a result, Constable was notified of his violation for the first time in July 2023 after having parked the boat in the same spot for around four years, Constable said.

It makes sense that Constable was frustrated, Borges said, because his boat has always appeared to be well-maintained. In the end, the mural was a fun solution, the city manager said.

"The only action to take at this point is a high-five to the owner," Borges said.

'I hit a sweet spot'

Constable said he wanted to make a point about "ridiculous" city codes without getting into a legal battle with the mayor's office.

"I did it to stick my thumb in your eye, but I did it in a way that's nonoffensive, doesn't hurt anybody, doesn't take anything from anyone," Constable said. "I feel like I hit the sweet spot, and got my point across."

Constable got the boat four years ago, and often takes it out into Monterrey Bay and toward Santa Cruz and Big Sur, he said. He's a fan of fishing, often hunting for halibut and rockfish, and when he can, salmon and tuna, he said.

Now, having the mural be a public, artistic part of the neighborhood "is something I'm very proud of," he said.
