A Summary of Motor Yacht SEA RACER

The motor yacht SEA RACER is a 47 metre 153 (foot) generous aluminium boat which was produced by The Feadship De Vries Shipyard and her design plans were devised by De Voogt Naval Architects. Accommodating 10 guests and 10 qualified crew, motor yacht SEA RACER was named Detroit Eagle. This graceful boat has been envisaged by the naval architecture of De Voogt Naval Architects. John Munford was successful with the designing of the interior.

Construction & Naval Architecture for Luxury Yacht SEA RACER

De Voogt Naval Architects was the naval architecture company involved in the professional superyacht composition for SEA RACER. Her interior design was completed by John Munford. De Voogt Naval Architects is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this boat. Created at The Feadship De Vries Shipyard the yacht was built in the known yacht building country the Netherlands. She was officially launched in Aalsmeer in 2001 before being handed over to the owner. A fairly large area is manifested with a total beam (width) of 9.21 m or 30.2 feet. With a 1.86m (6.1ft) draught (maximum depth) she is fairly shallow. The material aluminium was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure over the hull is fashioned with the use of aluminiumandgrp. In 2007 extra refitting and updating was also performed.

Powered by three MTU / HONEYWELL-VERICOR codog engines, SEA RACER can attain a maximum speed of 34 knots. SEA RACER is propelled by twin screw propellers / 1wj (kamewa s series). She also has an efficient range of 3000 miles when motoring at her cruising speed of 22 knots. Her total HP is 12900 HP and her total Kilowatts are 9492. With respect to bow thrusters she utilises Holland Roer.

Merle Wood & Associates is pleased to announce that the Feadship SEA RACER yacht sold. With accommodations for 10 guests in 4 staterooms, she features a main deck forward master suite with an oversized en suite comprising of a Jacuzzi and a large shower room. Located on the lower deck, the full-beam VIP suite as well as 2 twins with 2 Pullmans also boast private en suites and are as impeccably decorated as the master. She has been immaculately maintained up to and through her recent 2015 refit, where no costs were spared in the overhaul.

The SEA RACER yacht sold by Merle Wood & Associates is a one-of-a-kind yacht capable of cruising around the globe in the complete comfort that only a Feadship can provide.

With exterior styling and lines by the owner and Fritz DeVoogt, the SEA RACER yacht sold by Merle Wood & Associates was purposely built to be as light as possible, with honeycomb-based interior bulkheads and furnishings to maximize speed. Designed by John Munford, her interior features madrone and anigre joinery with neutral tones that are highlighted by deep blue accents throughout the yacht.

The main salon is warm, with plush leather furnishings and oversized windows allowing for excellent views. Off the main salon, the interior formal dining area has the option to be enclosed for private meetings or dining.

Exterior decks are just as spacious as her interior, with a main deck aft that features a built-in sofa along with a large table suitable for al fresco meals morning or night. The protection of a hardtop shelters guests from the sun and allows for 180-degree views from all angles. On the bridge deck aft, another built-in sofa is also U-shaped and faced with ottomans and a table forward. Up top, the vast sun deck features a raised Jacuzzi with surrounding sunpads, ideal for relaxation and taking in panoramic sea views.

Constructed of steel and GRP, she was built to ABS classification and has completed a 15-year special survey. Her top speed of 34 knots is achieved via 2 MTU 3,650hp engines that are connected to a 5,600hp Lycoming/DDC gas turbine. These provide her with a cruising speed up to 21 knots along with a range of 1,785 nautical miles at 11 knots.

Sea Racer is a custom motor yacht launched in 2001 by Feadship in Aalsmeer, Netherlands and most recently refitted in 2007.

Based in the Netherlands and with roots dating back to 1849, Feadship is recognised as the world leader in the field of pure custom superyachts.

Sea Racer measures 46.63 metres in length, with a max draft of 1.83 metres and a beam of 9.20 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 516 tonnes. She has a deck material of teak.

Sea Racer has an aluminium hull with an aluminium superstructure.

De Voogt Naval Architects is an international company specialized in the design of luxury motoryachts upto a length of 100 meters. All Yachts designed by De Voogt are fully detailed and custum built, for the exclusive export market.

Her interior design is by John Munford Design.

Sea Raycers and the current state of Disney's boat rentals

There's been a bunch of different rumors and stories about what happened to the Sea Raycer "Water sprites" at WDW. I was told by a marina CM last year that they were sold, some people said they were destroyed among other things. Either way I don't understand why Disney got rid of them, I know for a fact that anyone who got a chance to rent one had the time of their lives. Renting these boats along with the pontoons are my favorite thing to do at WDW. The company that made the boats, Sea Ray, is still in business, so I don't think there was a parts / maintenance issue. I don't know when they first switched to this model of boat, I know it's been well over 10 years, so maybe they just reached the end of their lifespan. In that case you would think they would have bought new ones to replace them with rather than leaving a void of no rentals. There was also the Boston Whaler boats that disappeared with the Sea Raycers. I don't know if they got thrown out as well or if they are sitting backstage somewhere. Then there are the pontoons. They came back, albeit only available at certain resorts, and people are still renting them. I don't think there is a profit issue because prior to 2020, I remember trying to rent both the pontoon and motor boats and being turned away because they were all taken. I don't know about other resorts but at Fort Wilderness the dock that used to house the pontoons and sea raycers has been torn up in different spots. I can't tell if it's just maintenance or if they are getting rid of the dock entirely. What do y'all think? Are they gone for good or is Disney planning on bringing them back? Maybe a different model / brand will show up. Who knows.

The smaller boats were killed because it lost money for the company. The pontoons were kept only because the fireworks cruises and fishing tours make money.  

They got rid of them because they were a net loss, even though it offered an amenity at deluxe resorts. There's been a lot of hubbub about low fiscally performing add-ons being cut, even though they added value for guests, that doesn't present it itself in a finance presentation.

You know, sometimes you have to have things that loose money so you'd make it up elsewhere. They were part of reason we considered some hotels when booking.

Sad really. We won a free hour rental (pre-pandemic) and had a blast out on the water. We even rented another so we could all go. I agree, they were probably a loss with the staffing required and low rental costs. I also always wondered if the ferry boat captains hated them since they were tiny and guests are stupid.

I've always had a hard time believing that they were cash flow negative. On a fully burdened P&L, sure, but no way on cash flow. So they dump the "money losers" and then the majority of their burden then gets put on other things. But it did look like they were replacing the Fort Wilderness dock a few weeks back, so maybe a sign they are coming back.  

Even if they break even, you are tying up worker hours in an activity that is used by a small number of people. With workers scarce, you want them serving the most people possible. For example, do you want mechanics fixing buses that transport hundreds a day or small boats that maybe 10 people use? It is a shame that these little things get eroded away, but I can see why. It is possible these could return someday. Perhaps if Disney builds another resort near Fort Wilderness there will be more people and more reason to offer extra activities. Maybe a boat company will want to sponsor a service like that to boost awareness.

Does Disney need to make money on EVERYTHING? If they did get rid of the sea racers because they lost money, how much could it have been? I'm really sick of the everything for a buck motto. I paid $107 to ride Guardians on opening day. That was on top of the park ticket and the Genie plus charge.

And Homeland Security was not open to the idea of doing the same thing another way. In which case DME was not solely a decision on Disney part. Putting fencing up on all beaches to keep people out of the water, when they can bypass the fence by renting a Sea Raycer? Not to mention the bacteria, or other hazards? Potential liability through no fault of Disney, but simply due to being on Disney property? They've been steadily removing resort recreational activities for 10+ years. You used to could rent all types of watercraft at Caribbean Beach Resort, Old Key West, Polynesian, Downtown Disney, etc. Guests are willing to pay for deluxe resorts without those activities. So, why keep them? People complain about what's happened to the parks in the last few years, but the Deluxe resorts have been decimated in the last 15 years. Maintenance neglected, theming stripped, water and landscaping features removed, lobbies homogenized, staffing reduced, transportation reduced, etc. What's happened to the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian alone is just sad. You would think WDW would take more pride in what makes it special. Uniquely themed deluxe resorts, recreational opportunities, unique transportation, etc. make it the vacation destination it is.

We had an absolute blast! The dolphins didn't come out to play but the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I didn't realize it was customary to tip and don't carry cash. I wish they had a Venmo or cashapp queue code on the way out so I could have tipped the staff.

Kids and adults enjoy this fun dolphin cruise takes you far into the Atlantic to check out the dolphins - well far enough! Enjoyed it and saw about 10 dolphins total although you have to be patient as it's usually just a couple seconds to spot them. You will get wet and it's not great if you have motion sickness being Dramamine. Highly recommend!

First Mate, Emily was fantastic, funny, very personable. Captain Julio was an excellent dolphin seeker. We saw 30 or so dolphins and some jellyfish. 90 minute boat ride, not a bad seat on the boat. Went fast but not too fast.

Really wonderful tour! We went out on a hot August afternoon and were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins twice! We even saw a baby dolphin! The weather conditions were good and the sea was calm. First mate Jessica was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable. She provided us with a ton of interesting information on dolphins and the area. The tour is worth the price and made for a fun day out!

I enjoyed it better this time because my children were a little bit older as the first time they were so little the Ride was excellent I love that we were able to see the dolphin, and Julio took his time until we could see the dolphins this was a nice experience I can definitely recommend it to anyone!! Family time

The crew was amazing! Unfortunately we did not see any dolphins and realize they cannot guarantee that we will see them. We were quite bummed that they had to cut the trip short by 30mins due to some rain that came in. To make it even worse the rain only lasted 20mins! We were already wet so it would have been nice to stay out on the boat and enjoy the scenery. Even though we didn't see any dolphins the boat ride was fun!!

We value your feedback. You are correct that we cannot guarantee Dolphin sightings on every cruise because they are wild animals and unpredictable. If the boat returned early because of inclement weather it was because lightning was in the area and the captain is require to return to port and seek shelter. Thank you for the review.

We have been on 3 dolphin tours in Myrtle Beach. It is a tradition when we visit. Sea Racer was the best tour so far. We saw about 10 dolphins. The boat ride was amazing. If you get sea sick maybe not the best idea to go on a boat. The family next to us had 3 sea sick kids. BTW if you get sea sick don't put your head down look at the horizon.

Our family loved this tour! So much fun!

Vasco da Gama Ocean Race 2024 yacht crew rescue

4 sailing yacht crew rescued after their sailing yacht started to take on water after reportedly colliding with a container at sea - they were returning to Durban from East London following the completion of the Vasco da Gama Ocean Race 2024 - Durban to East London:

Gert du Plessis, NSRI Port Edward station commander, said: At 19h38, Friday, 24 May, NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated following reports from the Vasco da Gama Ocean Race 2024 (VdGOR2024) coordinators reporting the VdGOR2024 sailing yacht Tipsy reporting to their race control that they were taking on water and sinking off-shore of the Eastern Cape Coastline (the former Transkei) in the vicinity of Rame Head near Umgazana, Lutatweni about a nautical mile off-shore.

The Vasco da Gamma Ocean Race 2024 had completed and sailing yachts were returning to their home Ports following the Ocean race.

The 4 crew onboard, a female age 61, and 3 males, ages 69 (skipper), and 64 and 62, all from Durban, reported to be abandoning their sailing vessel into a life raft.

Telkom Maritime Radio Services relayed a Mayday distress call and the sailing yacht Zing diverted to respond - reporting to be approximately 4 hours from the casualty sailing vessel.

Vasco da Gama Ocean Race 2024 coordinators assisted with logistics, coordination and communications in cooperation with Telkom Maritime Radio Services, NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre), NSRI Port Edward, NSRI East London, NSRI Shelly Beach and NSRI Durban – duty controllers.

Additional NSRI Operations duty managers assisted at NSRI EOC (at NSRI Headquarters).

The NSRI Port Edward rescue craft Spirit of Steve was launched (carrying extra fuel).

NSRI Shelly Beach were tasked to launch as a back-up rescue vessel.

The NSRI Shelly Beach rescue craft Spirit of Dawn was launched (carrying extra fuel).

NSRI Durban, NSRI Mdumbi, NSRI Port St Johns and NSRI East London duty crews were placed on alert.

The SA Police Services, EC Government Health EMS and Police Search and Rescue were placed on alert.

Initially the estimation was that was the distance from Port Edward to reach the life-raft, with all 4 casualty crew reporting to be adrift but safe, although cold, in their life raft, was 55 nautical miles from Port Edward - they were estimated to be in the vicinity of Port St Johns - about a nautical mile off-shore.

The casualty crew were instructed to only turn on one cell phone in an effort to preserve the battery power on their remaining phones.

Telkom Maritime Radio Services provided excellent marine VHF communications to the responding NSRI rescue craft and to the sailing yacht Zing that had diverted to assist. Telkom Maritime Radio Services are commended for their assistance.

An NSRI Port Edward rescue vehicle was dispatched to respond to aid in communications.

MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) and TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) were alerted and they were kept briefed by NSRI’s EOC (Emergency Operations Centre).

Local community, local Municipal lifeguards and local back-packers, along that stretch of coastline, were contacted by NSRI EOC and they were requested to keep a lookout.

On arrival at Port St Johns the NSRI Port Edward rescue craft determined that the casualty sailing yacht and the casualty life raft had drifted, in the overcast heavy rain conditions, with up to 2 meter sea swells, but fair seas, and light North Easterly winds, South of Port St Johns and they were at that stage in the vicinity of Coffee Bay – now some 79 nautical miles from Port Edward.

NSRI rescue craft were warned to keep a look-out for the floating container and/or any further floating containers that might be in the area. It remains unknown where the floating container that caused the accident may have originated from - that warning to vessels in that area remains valid - to be on the look-out and to proceed with caution based on the collision that occurred at sea with the sailing yacht Tipsy.

Sea swell currents direction changed continuously during the operation.

The NSRI Shelly Beach rescue craft reached the vicinity of Mbotyi and stood by there as safety back-up to the rescue operation.

NSRI East London alerted the Police Air Wing and alerted the EC Government Health EMS rescue helicopter to be on stand-by.

After going past Port St Johns the NSRI Port Edward rescue crew, onboard the rescue craft Spirit of Steve, requested the casualty crew to deploy a 1000 foot red distress parachute flare.

That flare could be seen by NSRI Port Edwards crew but much further South than initially determined and was noticeable barely on the horizon South of the position of the rescue craft.

Then on reaching the search area – off-shore of Coffee Bay – the casualty sailing yacht was located adrift, close off-shore at the back breakers, with her bow up and stern deep under water but still barely semi submerged.

NSRI Port Edward rescue crew then requested the casualty crew to set off another red distress flare. It was decided to set off a pencil red distress flare (in order to keep the 1000 foot flares as back-up in case they were not located).

That pencil red distress pencil flare, that was deployed, was discovered to have been fired about 1 nautical mile from the NSRI rescue craft and the NSRI Port Edward crew located and recovered all 4 crew from their life raft at 01h23.

All 4 crew were found to be safe and not injured despite being a bit cold and thirsty. They were provided blankets and hydration.

All 4 casualty crew were in good spirits and there was relief and joy expressed by their families, Vasco da Gama race coordinators and fellow race sailing yachts as well as Police, NSRI and the emergency services.

Their life-raft was recovered and deflated and brought home.

The NSRI Port Edward rescue craft, with all 4 casualty crew onboard the rescue craft, and safe, together with the deflated life raft, then embarked on the return journey towards Port Edward.

At Mbotyi they rendezvoused with the NSRI Shelly Beach rescue craft Spirit of Dawn. There they refuelled the NSRI Port Edwards rescue craft Spirit of Steve and together they continued up the coastline towards Port Edward.

Med-Evac ambulance services were activated to respond to Port Edward NSRI station 32 rescue base.

On arrival at Port Edward the NSRI Shelly Beach rescue craft bid farewell and continued on towards Shelly Beach arriving at their NSRI Shelly Beach station 20 rescue base at 07h09.

Paramedics, from Med-Evac ambulance services, medically checked out the 4 casualty crew who were treated for hypothermia and hydration – they required no further medical care. They are commended for their assistance.

The casualty crew will stay at friends at Port Edward before returning to Durban.

The casualty sailing yacht, Tipsy, has been found washed ashore on the rocky shoreline in the vicinity of Coffee Bay.

This is the longest NSRI RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Craft) rescue operation in the history of NSRI – the NSRI Port Edward rescue craft Spirit of Steve covered a distance of approximately 158 nautical miles in total.

The NSRI Port Edward duty crew are commended for this successful rescue operation.

NSRI Mdumbi duty crew are assisting at Coffee Bay to recover personal items from the casualty sailing yacht for her crew who are resting in Port Edward.

NSRI commends the swift response and cooperation between all services involved, the Vasco da Gama race coordinators and the excellent marine VHF communications provided by Telkom Maritime Radio Services.

Cocoa Beach boat race cuts through key sea turtle nesting area

Speed boats can top 175 mph.

The top speed of an adult endangered sea turtle is about 22 mph.

Those two facts will collide, at least metaphorically, this weekend when Thunder of Cocoa Beach will have racing boats speeding along the shoreline amid turtle nesting season.

So as turtles are looking for love within the first mile or two of shore, boat racing monitors will have to keep look out for any smitten sea turtles in the process of making their species a little less endangered.

There's much less sea turtle nesting activity where the race will be held in Cocoa Beach than on beaches along Brevard County's southern half. But all those high-speed boats so close to shore during peak sea turtle nesting season still has worried some conservationists for years. They've questioned the timing of the event, given that turtle nesting happens from March to November, with most during summer months and peak mating around the time when the racing event is held in mid May.

Bright lights and dark sand also can threaten the success of turtle nesting .

Does the race take steps to avoid sea turtles?

Yes. The Thunder on Cocoa Beach race officials say on their website that they work with sea turtle conservationists "to ensure all protective measures possible are made to the turtle population and their habitat are protected."

The events include trained spotters — from several watercraft and a helicopter — who look for turtles and manatees near the race course before, during and after the race. If a turtle or manatee is anywhere near the event, officials stop the race, which can't continue until the animal swims away.

Federal or state agencies can impose civil fines or criminal penalties of tens of thousands of dollars and jailtime for killing or harming an endangered species.

How many sea turtles do boats kill in Florida?

Sometimes it's obvious, especially when turtles get cut in half. But most times it's tough to say for sure whether a boat is at fault for killing a washed-up turtle.

A 2019 study by the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute estimated that boat strikes killed between 1,300 and 4,300 sea turtles each year in Florida during 2000–2014 and that about a third of dead and/or stranded sea turtles had boat injuries.

A 2023 study echoed those conclusions, finding boaters kill a third of sea turtles from Melbourne Beach to West Palm Beach, according to the study, published last fall in Global Ecology and Conservation by Inwater Research Group, of Jensen Beach.

Where do boats tend to hit sea turtles?

The 2023 Inwater study shows the turtles mating, resting or nibbling reefs for algae within two miles of shore are most at risk of being killed by boats, especially when nearest to their key nesting spots such as the southern Space Coast.

What can boaters do to kill fewer turtles?

Just easing up on the throttle within a mile or two of the beach could cut one of the main causes of sea turtle deaths significantly, the researchers said.

What turtles nest here and when?

Leatherbacks, among the most endangered of five sea turtle species that frequent Florida, begin nesting in late February with peak nesting in May, according to state nesting figures. Loggerheads begin nesting in April with a peak in June and July, and green turtles start nesting in late May with a peak between mid-June and mid-August.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

Man spends month at sea to raise funds for charity

A Shropshire man who spent a month at sea in a gruelling boat race while raising money for charity has told of the time it took to readjust to life on dry land.

Mark Perkins, from Tilstock, joined the Zuhai team for the sixth leg of the Clipper Round the World challenge, which saw them sail from China to Seattle.

The 55 year-old raised about £500 for Lingen Davies, which supports those living with cancer in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

"It was a lot harder than I expected," said Mr Perkins, "I've wanted to do it for a long time - it's taken me about 20 years to get round to doing it." he added.

The Clipper Round the World race is a 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht.

The route is divided into eight legs, and includes six ocean crossings.

He said the the boat was angled at 45 degrees for 12 days while tacking - the manoeuvre used to change the direction of a boat through oncoming wind.

"I was on the high side, so I had to adjust my bunk," said Mr Perkins.

"I had about six inches of head room," he continued.

"You were never, ever still, there was always noise. It was not a good place to sleep."

The sailor was seasick for the first four days on board, and it took some days to adjust to life back on land after his return at the end of April.

"I was still swaying for three days after I got off the boat. I actually fell over and whacked my head because I forgot what I was doing," he said.

Despite the tough conditions, Mr Perkins said he was proud to have completed the challenge.

"It's not for everyone. Do the training and decide whether you're up for it," he added.

Officials working on keeping sea turtles safe during nesting season ahead of cocoa beach boat race.

For the 15th time, speed boats will take to the water for the Thunder on Cocoa Beach race this weekend, but it comes during a delicate season for sea turtles.

While the big race boats are out on the water offshore, trained eyes will scan the water for marine wildlife. Sea turtles will be the focus of this attention, as this is their nesting season.

The Sea Turtle Preservation Society has been involved with the race for 13 years, always concerned about boat strikes.

“It’s really great how it all works and the teamwork. So, their race director and program director talks with us. We have a volunteer in a helicopter that flies back and forth across the racetrack,” said Joel Cohen with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society.

They also have trained spotters who are on the water in boats along the racecourse, looking for sea turtles, manatees, and other marine life.

If one is seen, the helicopter is called in to verify.

“They drop a flare, and if the mammal does not move out of the area quickly, then they drop a red flare and they stop the race,” according to Thunder on Cocoa Beach Executive Director Kerry Bartlett. If the animal is in the way.

This layer of protection can slow down the race and has an added cost.

“We do this for the community. And we also enjoy mammals and wildlife; we live here. We feel that it is on us to protect the wildlife,” Bartlett said.

One of the biggest concerns for conservationists during the race is the people out on their own boats watching the race. There will be a lot of them, and unlike the racecourse, they don’t have official spotters. It’s recommended that if you are heading out on a boat, you designate one person to keep an eye out.

But even if you’re staying on the sand, race time or not, give the turtles some space.

“If you see a daytime nesting turtle in Brevard County, don’t approach the turtle, don’t touch the turtle. You are welcome to take pictures and watch from a distance. But also, please call the Sea Turtle Preservation Society,” Cohen added.

The collected data and information on nesting are critical in protecting all sea turtle species.

De yachtclub is een gegeven in Oostende. De ligging aan de haveningang is uniek. Je komt er wel enkel binnen indien je lid bent, of op uitnodiging van een lid. De gerechten zijn copieus en heerlijk, maar ook erg prijzig.

Vraag mij af of het personeel wel een horecadiploma heeft? Barvrouw is zeer ontbeleefd en arrogant. We zagen het rauwe vlees op de grond vallen in de keuken. Basic regels van de horeca ontbraken. Vleesmes geven, peper en zout niet op tafel. Mayonaise kwam toen... de frietjes op waren. Water glazen ontbraken toen de waterflessen op tafel stonden.... De locatie is top, met uitzicht over Oostende, het strand, de pieren, de jachthaven, de werkhaven, de bedrijvigheid op het water. Bij zomerse omstandigheden is het heerlijk toeven op het terras, maar ook binnen is het sfeervol. I.v.m. COVID-19 zijn er binnen stijlvolle schermen geplaatst.... Het prachtige weer nodigde ons uit om te lunchen op het terras met uitzicht op de Havengeul. Het eten was dik in orde, grote porties, en prijzen overeenstemmend. Één kleine tegenvaller was de (oudere) dienster die nogal kort, onaangenaam en bruut was ( morsen van... glas water zonder te excuseren). Aan één zaak was te wennen: de crême brulée was volledig warm ( normaal is enkel de bovenkant opgewarmd en de vanille fris) Meer

Zeilend van Nederland richting het zuiden is de haven van de Royal North Sea Yacht Club een heerlijke levendige plek voor een stop. De altijd enthousiaste begroetingen van Simon de havenmeester maken er meteen een feestje van om hier een ligplaats te kiezen. De visafslag,... het strand, de bedrijvigheid van vissersboten, pontjes en zeeschepen maken het echt een gezellige zeehaven. De YACHTCLUB ademt de sfeer van decennia (wedstrijd)zeilen uit. Het restaurant en het prachtig gelegen terras torenen hoog boven het water uit, zodat er altijd in alle richtingen een fantastisch uitzicht is. Ook dit jaar was het echt weer culinair genieten van de borrels op het terras bij de ondergaande zon, het fantastische eten en heerlijke wijnen. Ik noem o.a. de heerlijke oesters op ijs, de lekkerste Vitello Tonato ooit en de malse rib-eye. De vriendelijke en correcte bediening maken het plaatje compleet van deze heerlijke nautische culinaire plek! Meer

In het clubhuis van de North Sea Yacht club kan je prima dineren en genieten van het schitterende uitzicht, hetzij over de jachthaven dan wel richting zee. De menu kaart toont zeer klassieke vis- en vlees gerechten. Vriendelijke bediening.

Je zit inderdaad op een exclusieve locatie, maar 28 euro voor een handvol gepelde garnalen, een gekookt ei en een gepelde tomaat, een beetje mayonaise uit een pot, en overbakken frietjes (ik twijfel zelfs over diepvries of niet), is er ruim over. Het is begrijpelijk... dat als mensen betaald moeten worden op basis van clubleden, die uiteraard niet alle dagen langskomen, ook al is het een grote club, dan zit je met een cashflow probleem en dat moet opgevangen worden. Wijn ibidem; in principe kan je de aankoop x 3 doen, hier is hij gemiddeld x 7. Ik stel voor nog 3 dagen per week open te doen, en kwaliteit te leveren. Nooit meer. Meer

Eén van de meest dynamische watersportclubs en jachthavens van de Belgische kust

De RNSYC Oostende is in 1946 opgericht door een hechte groep Snipe en Papillon zeilers en is uitgegroeid tot één van de meest dynamische watersportclubs en jachthavens van de Belgische kust. Met een capaciteit van circa 100 ligplaatsen verdeeld over het Montgomerydok, de Churchillkaai en de Visserskaai biedt de RNSYC een unieke locatie aan in hartje Oostende, zowel voor vaste liggers als voor bezoekende jachten.

De club investeert continu in de modernisering van haar infrastructuur en werking. De club is dan ook de thuishaven van de meest actieve wedstrijdvloot zeiljachten langsheen de Belgische kust en is er tevens de draaischijf voor internationale kielboot klassen zoals J24, Draak en SB20 waartoe we beschikken over een eigen botenkraan tot maximaal 2 ton.

Ook bij de zwaardboten komen de internationale eenheidsklassen zoals Laser, Europe en Finn bij onze club steeds sterker aan bod. Door onze locatie aan het “klein strand” van Oostende zijn we perfect gelegen om grote events te huisvesten op loopafstand van het station en het stadscentrum, op 10 km van het vliegveld en op minder dan een kwartier zeilen naar het wedstrijdgebied. Dit alles ondersteund door een slipway, trailerparking en uitgebreide parkeergelegenheid voor wagens en campers in de onmiddellijke omgeving.

Jaarlijks organiseert de RNSYC meer dan 20 regatta’s met nationale en internationale uitstraling onder deskundige leiding van ons toegewijde Race Comité. Ook de woensdagavond wedstrijden in de zomermaanden zijn bijzonder populair. en door de organisatie van het regelmatigheidscriterium Ostend Cup in samenwerking met de Twins Club Bredene en de Ostend Sailing ontstaat een gezonde kruisbestuiving tussen het klassieke zeilen met éénrompsboten en de wereld van multihull’s in beachclubs waar onze leden sporadisch meegenieten van  het surfen, kiten, suppen of zeilwagenrijden.

“Last but not least” heeft de RNSYC samen met de Twins Club recent het initiatief  genomen om een J24 trainingsprogramma te introduceren om leden en toekomstige leden te laten proeven van de Noordzeegolven vanop zeiljachten.

RNSYC is an exclusive location, provided with a bar and a gastronomic restaurant and a multipurpose meeting room up to 40 persons. It is situated in the Ostend marina. Magnificent view over the harbour and the sea guaranteed.

The club was founded in 1946 by a close group of Snipe and Papillon sailors and has grown into one of the most dynamic water sports clubs and marinas on the Belgian coast. It is the only yacht club in Belgium located in the city centre. All shops, restaurants, train and bus connections, museums, etc. are within walking distance.

Superb view. Restaurant for members only! Very good Dover sole

Typical not too much hassle marina restaurant with good quality brasserie type food in relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful bouillabaisse and shrimp salad. Great harbour views. Friendly staff.

Just had lunch at this place while racing in the club. To go into the restaurant you need to be a member of a sailing club but I don’t think they check. View out in the harbor is fantastic, fish is well made and fresh.... Service was ok. But honestly speaking the pricing is ridiculous. A Sole mariniere with just Salat and chips for € 33,80 I hardly ever had before. At least not in a sailing club restaurant. Tomorrow’s lunch I will definitely have in one of the many more restaurants around. More

Very poor quality, where the food was rather good in the past, prices are going up and food we got was nearly eatable. Toilets were dirty, no soap, no towel. I was so embarrassed to my friends that I forgot to take pictures.

If a warm welcome or friendly staff reflects the start of a perfect evening well... sorry! This little nervous impolite rude lady made it an unforgettable evening ( in a bad way). Perhaps she doesn’t know who pays her salary nor that she isn’t Royal... ! tssssss shame More

The management should make up it' mind up about the fact if this is a private venue or not. If it is a private venue it has no place in Tripadvisor. I have been sailing for more than 40 years and I have never experienced... such unfriendlyness. The waitress in casual clothes simply refused to serve me claiming that is a private club memebers only. But this members rule does not seem to be so strict as I saw there was a monthly dinner of the Fifty-one club Oostende, for sure not all members of the sailing club. More

Overpriced for nothing very memorable. Sour service. I thought we had done something wrong but then I saw other reviews. Shame really because one of our diners came a month ago and was very positive. There surroundings are nice, I guess and these are were... comfy! More

I've eaten here many times (always good), but last Monday evening was exceptional. The Cod on mashed potato and spinach was perfect. I never tire of watching the boats coming in and out. When it's warmer the terrace is lovely. If you can get it... in, you'll enjoy yourself. More

We have been here several times over the years. Service is very friendly. The restaurant is a private club so you must be invited by a member to get in. Food is most seafood and fish, only fresh from the market, if they are sold... out they will tell. Nothing out of the freezer. The chef prepares authentic classics but also dishes with a thai touch. And every day they have a very good cheap lunch special. More

The level of service is very much below the line. In a yacht club I would have expected to have a more customer oriented staff. Too bad, I am sorry

RNSYC is always friendly and welcoming - as always the swell from the sea and the boats in the harbour make the basin a bouncy place to be - sometime uncomfortably so. The club facilities are good and the bar cheap. We didn't eat there... this year. More

Awfull food since the former coock has been fired. They even don't know how to prepare fresh belgian fries (as they ran out of the frozen ones)

This Yacht Club requires a membership to get access. Members of foreign Yacht Clubs are welcome. And members can bring guests. It's situated in a top location - the best - in Ostend. The food and service have been consistently outstanding for many years. It's... my favorite place for lunch or dinner because of the quality of the always fresh food, the friendly service, and the gorgeous views on the Yacht Harbor, the city line of Ostend, and the Channel. It is also good value for your money, and the interior is charmingly classic and maritime, very cosy ! More

Delicious local food prepared fresh on the day. Beautiful views of the harbour. Only drawback is that you have to be invited by a member of the Yacht Club to dine there. Luckily I have a friend who is. One of the best food experiences... in Ostend. More

Ate there the once and had a drink twice , both times found the service poor and the staff rude, to be told to stay there and wait was to much, while she sorted the music out, we only wanted to pay the bill! The... food was ok but expensive and the surrounding are nice,I would not go again and would not recommend unless you like to be treated like a univited guest at a private party More
