The multi-award winning 91.5m/300'2" expedition yacht 'Tranquility' (ex. Equanimity) by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco offers flexible accommodation for up to 22 guests in 11 cabins and features interior styling by British designer Winch Design.

Explorer yacht Tranquility is the ultimate vessel for exploring far-flung corners of the globe, and whether you're traversing the tropics or the poles, you'll be in capable hands. With a wealth of spectacular onboard social and dining options coupled with charter-rich amenities and a highly-attentive crew, you'll be in seventh heaven on a luxury charter aboard this phenomenal yacht. Her features include a helipad, beauty salon, movie theatre, spa, elevator, underwater lights, beach club and gym.

Guest Accommodation

Built in 2014, Tranquility offers guest accommodation for up to 22 guests in 11 suites comprising a master suite, three VIP cabins, four double cabins and two twin cabins. The supremely spacious full beam master suite incorporates its own study and dressing room. There are 13 beds in total, including 7 king, 2 queen, 4 singles and 1 convertible. She is also capable of carrying up to 31 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

A charter on Tranquility is comfortable and convenient thanks to the provided amenities including a piano, perfect for creating a relaxed atmosphere for you and your guests. For those looking to unwind after a long day of exploration on the water, you will find a dedicated and comfortable movie theatre. Elsewhere the latest beauty and hair treatments are available in the luxurious beauty room and the steam room is great for your skin and a perfect place to unwind. Soothe tired limbs and reinvigorate yourself in the sauna or elsewhere, for the ultimate relaxation experience, she plays host to a luxury spa. Take a plunge in the pool under the sun and in addition make your day truly exceptional at the beach club. A gym with all the latest equipment is available for a good work out plus soak up the bubbles in style in the deck jacuzzi.

Whatever your activities on your charter, you'll find some impressive features are seamlessly integrated to help you including an elevator, making any part of the yacht quickly and easily accessible. She features a helipad, so you can arrive in ultimate style and comfort and satellite communication systems keep you in touch wherever you voyage. Make your evenings more memorable with stunning underwater lights or elsewhere, take advantage of the on board Wi-Fi and stay connected at all times. You can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.

Performance & Range

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she offers greater on-board space and is more stable when at anchor thanks to her full-displacement hull. Powered by twin MTU engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots with a range of up to 5,000 nautical miles from her 279,000 litre fuel tanks at 14 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Onboard Tranquility has a range of toys and accessories to keep you and your guests entertained on the water throughout your stay. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Guests can experience the thrill and adventure of riding one of the WaveRunners. Also there are towable toys offering fun and adventure. Tranquility features three tenders, but leading the pack is a 10.5m/34'5" Hodgdon Limo Tender to transport you in style.

Special Features

TRANQUILITY has the distinction of being the industry's first superyacht designed and built to be fully Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) compliant. She features a 20m squared pool on her deck with jets, a private hot tub outside the master suite and a beach club. An indoor-outdoor wellness area is open to all guests and includes a sauna, hammam, plunge pool and beauty salon. Experiential showers are also available on board as well as a helipad on her upper deck.

Tranquility and her crew are available for charter this summer for cruising within the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. She is also accepting bookings this winter on request.

The TRANQUILITY yacht is a luxury yacht formerly known as Equanimity, constructed by Oceanco in 2014.

She can host over 28 guests and over 33 crew members.

TRANQUILITY yacht interior

The interior of the TRANQUILITY yacht was designed by Winch Design and exudes luxury. She features 1 master cabin, 3 VIP cabins (one that is extra special), 3 double cabins, and two twin cabins.

There is a large indoor lounge and group dining room, as well as a private dining area. 

One space that makes the TRANQUILITY yacht extra special is its spa suite, which comes equipped with a sauna, experiential showers, Hammam facilities, plunge pool, and massage facilities.

There is also a fully equipped balcony gym that doubles as a beach club. She features all of the luxury trimmings you would expect from a yacht of this quality. 

Specifications

The TRANQUILITY yacht measures 91 meters (300 ft) in length, with a beam of 14.5 meters (47.6 ft) and a draft of 4 meters (13 ft). She has a maximum speed of 19.5 knots and an average cruising speed of 16 knots. 

She is powered by two MTU diesel engines and is faster than other yachts her size, achieving 0.37 knots higher than the average top speed, and an average cruising speed of 0.59 knots above the average of yachts of a similar size. 

The draft is impressive considering her size, but she also comes with two Hodgson Tenders that are 10.5m in length giving passengers ease of access to the shore for excursions. 

The exterior of the TRANQUILITY yacht was designed by Oceanco, the same company responsible for the build. It features a steel hull that has been strengthened to Ice Class E. 

The design features a combination of dark materials complimented by elegant, off-white furnishings. 

She is home to a fully functioning helipad, a swimming pool, a movie theatre, an outdoor on-deck jacuzzi, and an on-deck lounging area. The activities aren’t limited to the onboard facilities, however. 

For those seeking some adventure, there are the previously mentioned Hodgson tenders, she offers multiple kayaks, Yamaha jet skis, wakeboards, paddleboards, Seabob F5s, and a trampoline amongst other facilities.

The TRANQUILITY yacht offers guests the chance to relax and play in equal amounts.

Equanimity superyacht provides luxury accommodation for 26 guests in a variety of flexibly configured staterooms— a magnificent master suite, three VIPs, three doubles and two twin staterooms. She has ample accommodation for 28 crew to cater to all the owners’ and guests’ desires.

The grandeur of the spa and beach club is complete with sauna, hammam, experiential showers, plunge pool and multi-faceted beauty salon. The spa area leads on to a fully equipped gym and Pilates studio that can be extended through a fold down platform at sea level, creating an indoor-outdoor wellness area that is unequalled afloat. Equanimity yacht hosts two Zodiac Fast Rescue Ribs and two 10.5-metre custom Hodgdon tenders.

Additionally, there is a spectacular 20m² swimming pool with jets. Providing a new benchmark in superyacht-based aviation, the upper deck boasts a fully certified helipad in accordance with CAP437 regulations as adapted for the PYC.

Luxury motor yacht Equanimity is steel hulled with an aluminium superstructure and is propelled by twin 4,828hp/3,600kW MTU 20V 4000 M73L engines, enabling her to achieve top speeds in excess of 20 knots.

Equanimity: A 300 Ft. Superyacht Put to Auction

The superyacht Equanimity , valued at $ 250 million, will be auctioned . The measure, the result of a government process in Malaysia, will be implemented as part of a lawsuit against corruption. It will be run by Burgess Yachts , a London-based firm.

Auction participants must deposit $ 1 million before being allowed to bid for Equanimity – it‘s a requirement for trading.

The wherewithal proceeds from the auction are aimed at developing a government’s investigation process of corruption scandals at 1Malaysia Development Berhad ( 1MDB ), a strategic development company in Malaysia. Ong Chee Kwan, the company’s lawyer, confirmed the auction.

Najib, one of the defendants, faces more than 30 criminal cases in 1MDB scandals, while the Treasury Chief Irwan S. Abdullah is also facing a breach of trust – it’s worth noting that these are still pending proceedings. US officials claim that there was $ 4.5 billion in money laundering through 1MDB, and that about $ 700 million was sent directly to bank accounts in the name of Najib.

Seized superyacht Equanimity renamed Tranquility as sale is finalised

The seized superyacht  Equanimity  has been renamed Tranquility by its new owner, destination resort business Genting Malaysia Bhd.

Marine Traffic confirms by the yacht's AIS that the 91.5 metre Oceanco superyacht lies in Singapore under the altered name.

It comes after Genting Malaysia Bhd made the $126m (£95.9m) successful bid for the yacht. The Admiralty Court in Kuala Lumpur previously stipulated this was to be paid by the end of April and the sale is now believed to have been finalised.

The long running saga dates back to August last year when the superyacht was transferred to Malaysia after being seized by Indonesian authorities at the request of the US Department of Justice.

It is alleged that the yacht was originally purchased by previous owner Low Taek Jho using money embezzled from the 1MDB state fund. Created in 2009, the fund was originally intended to aid economic development in the country.

“This will rank as the highest recovery to date for the Government of Malaysia from the 1MDB scandal; within a mere eight months from the commencement of this action,” said Attorney General of Malaysia Tommy Thomas when the sale was first announced.

“This $126 million is the best offer received over the five months, from October 2018, when Equanimity was first put up for sale. Many offers were received in this period, and a few were over $100 million.”

Burgess , together with lawyers representing the Malaysian government, had previously placed the Oceanco-built yacht on a "fast-track" to sell before March 31. However, this deadline had elapsed and Genting Malaysia's bid was negotiated directly with the Malaysia government.

During the yacht's seizure, it was reported that the Malaysian government’s yacht maintenance spend reached RM14.2 million (£2.7 million).

“The Navy was magnanimous in affording prime space in Langkawi for the docking of the Equanimity over five months, free of any charges,” Thomas confirmed. “The Navy, together with the Malaysian Police, ensured the security and safety of the Vessel whilst under arrest, even carefully escorting her during sea trials by prospective buyers.”

Launched in the Netherlands in 2014, Tranquility was the first superyacht to be built to the new PYC standard. As a result, she can accommodate up to 26 guests, as well as 28 crew members. Her twin 4,828hp MTU 20V4000 M73 diesel engines propel her to a top speed of 19.5 knots. When trimmed back to her cruising speed of 16 knots, Tranquility boasts a globetrotting range, thanks to her total fuel capacity of 271,000 litres.

Financial advisors are quick to warn prospective owners that a boat is nothing more than a hole in the water in which to throw money. When it comes to superyachts , you'd better have bags and bags of cash.

As one luxury agent told Business Insider at the Palm Beach International Boat Show: "Buying a boat, it's a huge purchase — and nobody needs a yacht."

A superyacht, generally over 30 meters long, is one of the most expensive assets money can buy, with the largest costing more than a lot of real estate or a private jet. Billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs each spent nine figures on their megayachts.

That doesn't include operating costs. Owners should expect to pay about 10% of a yacht's new-build price each year, experts told Business Insider. That's tens of millions of dollars annually for the most luxurious boats.

"It's a small-to-medium-sized business in its own right," said Jeffrey Beneville, a senior vice president at insurance company NFP, where he specializes in consulting clients about yachts.

Unlike many smaller boats, superyachts need staff, not just a captain. Some superyachts have space for dozens of crewmembers , including a chef, engineer, and masseuse for the guests onboard. Each gets an annual salary — the highest-ranking members earn six figures — and benefits. Eric Schmidt's yacht fits a crew of 28 for a ratio of about two crewmembers per guest.

Then there's fuel, dockage fees, routine maintenance, and insurance. The latter hinges on everything from the reputation of a yacht's shipyard to where an owner wants to take it (if a vessel is taking frequent trips to the South China Sea, for example, expect to pay a higher premium). If a superyacht has a support yacht — or a support superyacht, in Bezos ' case — expect to pay another 10% of that boat's price annually.

"The cost to maintain a yacht is so high that they just think that money's getting lit on fire," Matthew Fleissig, the CEO of wealth management firm Pathstone, told BI of his clients who choose to charter rather than own.

One of his firm's clients who does own has a 23-meter yacht valued at $5.2 million. The annual cost to staff, maintain, dock, and insure the boat is $346,297, according to documentation provided to BI. The lion's share is spent on marina fees ($95,970) and maintenance work ($88,408.) While not exactly a Sunfish, that boat is too small to count as a superyacht.

At 106 meters, the Amadea, owned by a sanctioned Russian oligarch , definitely does. The $300 million yacht, which was seized in 2022 and is docked in San Diego, cost $922,000 a month to maintain, a court filing showed: $360,000 for crew salaries, $75,000 for fuel, $144,000 for insurance, $178,000 in dry-docking fees, and $165,000 for maintenance, waste removal, food for the crew, and miscellaneous expenses.

"And that's an inactive yacht that's in the water," NFP's Beneville said.

If it were operational and carrying guests, the costs would be about twice that, or between $20 million and $30 million a year, he added.

Of course, it makes more financial sense for the non-obsessives to charter, and many of Fleissig's clients do. And some owners choose to offer their yachts for charter — the most luxurious cost as much as $1 million a week — to offset the costs.

"If you charter the boat for 50 days a year, it's going to help a lot," Anders Kurtén, the CEO of brokerage firm Fraser Yachts, told BI.

Then again, the running costs don't matter as much at a certain point. "If you're worth $30 billion, it's nothing. And if you're worth $117 billion — and these are the guys we're talking about — they're in it as long as it's still enjoyable for them," Beneville said. "It's not a money thing."
