Lady Michelle Yacht: Behind The Scenes

The Lady Michelle yacht became famous on the show Below Deck: Mediterranean season 6 where it was featured prominently. It’s worth noting that the Lady Michelle has since been renamed and is actually called the Next Chapter now. However, most people still know her as the Lady Michelle because of her time on the TV show. 

The yacht features naval architecture and was built by Italian yacht maker Benetti with design work done by Stefano Natucci and delivered back in 2003. She features a steel hull over an aluminum superstructure. It was refitted in 2022 and that was when the name was changed as well. 

Who Owns The Lady Michelle Yacht?

 In 2003 the Lady Michelle was purchased by entrepreneur Mike Fernandez.  He maintained ownership of the yacht even during its time on the show Below Deck. However, in 2022 the yacht was sold to a company called 1 Ocean Yachts. They are a yacht brokerage firm that also does yacht charter management and the Lady Michelle was renamed to the Next Chapter and added to their charter fleet.

How Big is the Lady Michelle/Next Chapter Yacht?

The Lady Michelle is by no means the biggest yacht in the world but it’s still a good sized vessel at 180.5 feet in length. According to the yacht specifications she features a 34 foot beam and her gross tonnage is 909 GT.

How Much Did the Lady Michelle Yacht Cost?

It’s believed that when the Lady Michelle sold in 2022 and was renamed the Next Chapter she sold for $18,950,000. That was the last published asking price for the yacht . Some sources claim that her initial price in 2003 was about $25 million. The annual cost to keep the yacht running is around $2 million. 

Can You Charter the Lady Michelle Yacht?

The Next Chapter/Lady Michelle is available for charter. The current price for a Lady Michelle yacht charter is about $325,000 per week. This number can change based on time of year and demand, however. Because the yacht is one of the more well known in the world thanks to its appearance on the show, it does tend to be popular.

How Fast is the Lady Michelle Yacht and What Engines Does She Have?

The Next Chapter uses a set of Caterpillar 3512 Diesel engines. Her cruising speed is about 14 knots with a top speed of 16 knots. She has a range of about 3,000 nautical miles at cruising speed.

What’s the Interior of the Motor Yacht Lady Michelle Like?

While the yacht was featured on Below Deck as we said and there was plenty of time for people to get a look at the interior and exterior, not all of that is applicable anymore. The refit of 2022 and subsequent sale to make it a charter yacht included a lot of changes to the overall look of the yacht. So if you think you know the Lady Michelle you may not, and the fact it’s called the Next Chapter now is symbolic of that. But, fortunately, the fact it is a charter now means the company wants you to know all of the features and amenities it has to offer, so we have a pretty good idea of the interior and how everything looks. 

As we said before, the interior and exterior were managed by Italian designer Stefano Natucci. As a charter vessel she has six cabins that can offer room for up to 12 guests. This includes 1 Master suite, 1 VIP cabin, 2 Double cabins, and 2 Twin cabins. There are also 14 crew on board to help make everyone’s time more enjoyable. 

The owner’s suite is also a split level to offer more space and views of the ocean. It features his and hers ensuite washroom facilities and offers a panoramic view of the ocean from the observation lounge. There’s also a private study 

When it comes to sleeping, guests enjoy a range of accommodations from the most luxurious with a king sized bed in the Master suite, to 3 queen sized in the VIP and doubles and then 4 singles and 1 pullman for those who are more inclined to rough it a little on a luxury yacht.

The interior was given traditional styling. This includes a lot of glossy wood finishes for a clean, shiny appearance. The color scheme is old school nautical blue and white for all the soft finishes like upholstery and pillows and so on. This, of course, matches the exterior paint on the hull.

Being a charter, the company in charge has packed the Next Chapter to the brim with all kinds of great features. Let’s take a look at some of the standouts.

What Happened with the Lady Michelle Yacht Drug Bust? 

Being on the show Below Deck was not the Lady Michelle’s only brush with fame. Back in 2017 a boat of the same name also made international headlines after it was involved in a sizable drug deal. The boat, flagged as a fishing vessel , was discovered off the coast of South America with a remarkable 4.2 tonnes of cocaine on board. The street value at the time was pegged at about $125 million. 

While this boat was seized by both the US and the National Crime Agency, it was an unfortunate mix up with names that got the Lady Michelle yacht involved. This may also be part of the reason the newest owners changed the name, so as to distance themselves from what was, at the time, the largest drug seizure since 1999. You can imagine people who own the boat not wanting anyone to Google a potential charter and discover it was used as a boat to smuggle drugs, even though it was just a case of mistaken identity because they had the same name.

The Lady Michelle that had possession of the drugs was a 70 foot fishing vessel based out of St. Vincent and Grenadines. 

The Bottom Line

The Lady Michelle was built in the year 2003 for entrepreneur and philanthropist Mike Fernandez. It was featured on the sixth season of the show Below Deck: Mediterranean which gave the vessel some international attention. However, after it was sold in 2022 for about $18, 950,000 the vessel was retrofitted and also renamed the Next Chapter.

The Next Chapter is just about 180 feet in length and has a top speed of 16 knots. It’s available for charter at a cost of around $325,000 per week and has accommodations for a total of 12 guests. It features a number of luxury amenities and a lot of toys for those on board.

The yacht, the wedding and £29m: Michelle Mone’s life during the Covid crisis

After recommending PPE Medpro for £203m government contracts, the Tory peer spoke of how business was hard but ‘rewarding’

I n the summer of 2021, when a traumatised Britain was enduring a third wave of Covid infections as it struggled to emerge from the pandemic, the Conservative peer Michelle Mone posted a photograph on Instagram of herself and her husband, Douglas Barrowman, in the Mediterranean. They were on their new luxury yacht, Lady M.

Mone, 51, who attained celebrity status through her bra and lingerie company, Ultimo, and was appointed to the House of Lords by David Cameron in 2015, told her followers: “Today I’m feeling reflective. I feel so grateful to be where I am, in a beautiful part of the world with the people I love the most. It wasn’t easy. There were some real challenges, both emotionally and physically.

“Business isn’t easy. But it is rewarding.”

The social media update about the sun-soaked luxury that “Lady (Michelle) Mone OBE”, as she describes herself on her social feeds, was enjoying on deck prompted an obvious question: during a global health and economic crisis, what business had she and Barrowman found that was so rewarding?

There had been speculation some months earlier that the couple’s good fortune may have had some connection to two large PPE contracts that the government awarded to a newly formed company, PPE Medpro, during Covid’s first deadly wave. The contracts were awarded via the “VIP lane” for companies recommended by Conservative MPs and peers and other politically connected people, but the government did not disclose at that time that PPE Medpro’s “VIP” had been Mone.

On paper, PPE Medpro had apparent links with Mone: the company’s directors, Anthony Page and Voirrey Coole, worked for Barrowman’s Isle of Man Knox Group, and Page had been the registered secretary of Mone’s company MGM Media, which managed her brand.

Asked in late autumn 2020, after these contracts had been awarded, if they were involved with PPE Medpro, Mone and Barrowman had emphatically denied having anything to do with it.

To emphasise the point, Page also issued a press release stating: “PPE Medpro was not awarded the contract due to company or personal connections to the government or Conservative party.”

Through the two years of scrutiny that have followed, the manner of Mone and Barrowman’s responses, almost all issued by lawyers acting on their behalf, has been striking: a series of fierce denials of “involvement” in the company, or the process through which it secured its government contracts, coupled with legal threats.

However the Guardian has chipped away at the edifice of the denials . A two-year investigation establishing the couple’s links to PPE Medpro culminates today with newly leaked documents indicating that Mone and Barrowman secretly received tens of millions of pounds originating from the company’s profits , which were sent to the Isle of Man.

The documents state that Barrowman received at least £65m in PPE Medpro profits, and transferred £29m to an offshore trust that, bank records indicate, benefited his wife and her adult children.

Contacted about the new disclosures, a lawyer for Mone said: “There are a number of reasons why our client cannot comment on these issues and she is under no duty to do so.” A lawyer who represents both Barrowman and PPE Medpro said that an ongoing investigation limited what they were able to say on these matters. He added: “For the time being we are also instructed to say that there is much inaccuracy in the portrayal of the alleged ‘facts’ and a number of them are completely wrong.”

A high-profile wedding and an ugly spat

In the autumn of 2020, months after PPE Medpro had secured the £203m Covid contracts, Mone was tussling with other considerations, including how to hold a wedding in the pandemic. In September 2020 she was forced to cancel a planned ceremony in the 13th-century chapel of St Mary Undercroft, in the Palace of Westminster.

Instead, she switched to the the Isle of Man, where there were few Covid restrictions at the time. Barrowman, her then fiance, has a sprawling U-shaped nine-bedroom home on the island. While the couple were making wedding arrangements from this base, Barrowman seems to have also been focusing on moving profits gained from PPE Medpro around various Isle of Man registered trusts, companies and accounts.

None of this was known then, despite the attention on Mone. Particularly since receiving a peerage in 2015, Mone had become a fixture in the tabloids, which titled her “Baroness Bra”. The wedding in November 2020 provided a level of glamour that was gleefully splashed across pages of papers mostly still concerned with the pandemic. Hello! magazine filled its pages with pictures of the couple’s celebrations, including shots of the bride in her designer wedding dress and Jimmy Choo heels.

After the wedding, Mone took to Instagram to thank “everyone on the Isle of Man for making our day so special”, including an opera singer and five live bands that had played during the weekend.

In December 2020, with the UK still in tier 2 and 3 Covid restrictions, Mone received a mixed public reaction to idyllic photos she posted online of the honeymoon at a five-star resort in the Maldives where, she tweeted, the couple were having “the most fantastic time”.

Just a month later, the Guardian understands, the bank Barrowman used in the Isle of Man, HSBC, was conducting an investigation into the financier’s receipt and distribution of the millions from PPE Medpro’s profits, and – the Guardian understands – decided to drop the couple as customers. HSBC declined to comment.

Publicly, however, all was blissful through the summer of 2021. Mone posted a series of perfectly posed pictures, including ones on the deck of the Lady M, with reflections on her state of contentment. “Decide what makes you happy and just go for it,” she wrote on one.

In June 2021, Mone and Barrowman garnered widespread publicity for a newly announced £18m business venture in Aberdeen, neospace, which provided office space tailored for post-Covid hybrid working. In August, almost a year after the couple are now known to have received a fortune in PPE Medpro profits, the Scottish Sun reported that Mone’s adult children had altogether spent more than £3m buying new properties in Glasgow.

Just weeks after her 50th birthday, however, the cracks started to appear in Mone and Barrowman’s carefully cultivated public image.

An ugly spat a couple of years previously with a former friend of Indian heritage was revealed by the Guardian. Mone was accused of sending him an allegedly racist message , calling him “a waste of a man’s white skin”, after a yacht crash off Monaco. Mone was interviewed under caution earlier this year, although in August the Metropolitan police confirmed that no further action would be taken.

Links to PPE Medpro revealed

The mystery around PPE Medpro was about to be broken too. For nearly 18 months the couple had constantly dismissed, denied or played down any links to the company.

However the Good Law Project , a not-for-profit campaign group, pursued a freedom of information request that led to the information commissioner ordering the government to publish the names of both the companies that had received contracts through the VIP lane and those who had referred them. When it did so, PPE Medpro was on the list , with the name of the VIP who initially referred the company to the government: “Baroness Mone”.

Confronted in November 2021 with the one inescapable fact at that time – that she had recommended the company to her fellow Tory peer Theodore Agnew, then a minister responsible for procurement – Mone’s lawyer said: “Having taken the very simple, solitary and brief step of referring PPE Medpro as a potential supplier to the office of Lord Agnew, our client did not do anything further in respect of PPE Medpro.”

The lawyer also stated that Mone had not declared the company on her Lords register of interests because “she did not benefit financially and was not connected to PPE Medpro in any capacity”.

The details of how Mone and Barrowman were linked to the company came instead from key information and documents provided by sources to the Guardian after Mone’s referral of the company became public.

In early January 2022, the Guardian revealed further details about Mone’s links to the PPE Medpro contracts. Leaked files appeared to show that, despite their constant denials, Mone and Barrowman did appear to have been secretly involved in the company. By then it had also emerged that the gowns supplied under a £122m contract had been rejected after a technical inspection and never used.

A day after the Guardian’s report, seemingly unconcerned by the revelations, Mone told her Twitter followers that she loved putting on make-up even when she had no event to attend. But it was the last time she shared her thoughts with her followers. On Instagram, too, her feed soon went quiet.

Then, in March 2022, the Guardian revealed new details of how Mone’s efforts had helped PPE Medpro secure its place in the VIP lane back in May 2020.

Her first approach to the government was to her fellow Conservative Michael Gove, who was then a Cabinet Office minister. Neither party has responded to questions about the nature of their relationship and how Gove came to be Mone’s first point of contact when offering to supply PPE to the government. She did tweet approvingly about him in 2017, writing: “Brilliant night with my colleagues at @UKHouseofLords Spent some time with @michaelgove I can honestly say,he’s mega switched on&a nice guy.”

After her approach to Gove in the weeks after the UK’s first lockdown, Mone contacted Agnew by private email on 8 May 2020, copying in Gove. She offered to supply large quantities of PPE face masks, the Guardian revealed, saying they could be sourced through “my team in Hong Kong”.

Agnew passed the offer to civil servants handling “priority” offers from politically connected people. PPE Medpro, the company, was not even incorporated until four days later, on 12 May 2020, but by the end of June, the government had contracted to pay it £203m of public money.

A few weeks after these latest revelations, in late April 2022, Mone made a rare appearance in the House of Lords to vote on the government’s police, crime, sentencing and courts bill. The following day police cars turned up at her London and Isle of Man properties. The raids by the National Crime Agency (NCA) , investigating potential fraud relating to PPE Medpro , were reported widely. Mone has not voted in the Lords since.

The latest batch of documents reviewed by the Guardian state that in October 2020, Barrowman transferred £29m originating from PPE Medpro profits to a trust set up on the Isle of Man. Records indicate the trust was set up to benefit Mone and her three children, and that its bank account was opened the same month that she recommended PPE Medpro to Tory ministers.

Barrowman is understood to have told HSBC that his wife had “no involvement” in the business activities of PPE Medpro, and the onward transfer of its profits via his personal bank account had been made “in his personal capacity”.

These details will add significant pressure on the peer, who is facing an investigation by the Lords commissioner for standards into whether she breached the conduct rules by failing to register an interest in the company, and by lobbying for it to be awarded government contracts. That investigation continues. Mone has denied wrongdoing.

The NCA’s investigation into potential fraud by PPE Medpro also continues. So far no one has been arrested or charged. Lawyers for PPE Medpro have declined to comment.

Barrowman declined to answer questions about whether money originating from PPE Medpro profits was used to pay for the Lady M yacht, the new Glasgow properties, the wedding or the honeymoon. A lawyer for Mone and her children said: “We are advised there is no truth in what appears to be entirely speculative ‘guesses’ on your part.”

A year ago Mone’s lawyer responded to a question about whether money derived from PPE Medpro’s deal had funded the yacht. “The inference which you clearly wish to create is that our client has used her position to lobby the government to award lucrative contracts to companies ‘connected’ to her and then spent the proceeds on an expensive yacht … That is not only wholly untrue, but if repeated, is highly actionable as it is grossly defamatory of our client.”

Meanwhile, the UK government is continuing its attempt to recover money from PPE Medpro in relation to the unused gowns through a dispute resolution process. PPE Medpro insists the gowns purchased through the £122m contract passed inspection, and that the company – and, presumably, the beneficiaries of its profits – are entitled to keep the money.

Below Deck motor yacht Lady Michelle sold

The 55 metre Benetti motor yacht Lady Michelle has been sold by Rob Newton at IYC and Jose Arana Jr at 1 Ocean Yachts, with Caleb Semtner of Semtner Brother Maritime Group, Inc assisting in the sale. 

The star of Below Deck Mediterranean season six, Lady Michelle was built in steel and aluminium by Italian yard Benetti and delivered in 2003. Lloyds classed and MCA compliant, she offers a sleek profile, extensive deck areas and well-conceived, spacious interiors.

Accommodation is provided for up to 14 guests in six cabins. The vast split-level owner’s suite has his and hers white marble bathrooms, a separate study and a private raised observation lounge with spectacular views forward. Clever design provides for a VIP cabin on the upper deck, affording wonderful views rarely enjoyed in guest accommodation. Further accommodation is provided in two double and two twin cabins, each with a Pullman berth, on the lower deck and all cabins on this yacht for sale have en suite facilities.

Lady Michelle has a spacious, generous layout with wide appeal, featuring warm cherry and burr walnut woods throughout. She has three spacious aft decks which offer a host of opportunities for al fresco living with open seating, lounging and dining areas located across the decks.

She completed a $2 million refit in Florida in March 2015 which has brought her up to a very high standard throughout. Recent interior décor upgrades include re-upholstered soft furnishings, new loose furniture, dining table and carpets. A complete review of all technical systems has also taken place along with cosmetic detailing in all technical areas, while in 2017 she received a full refit and now sports a fresh blue hull.

Twin 1,850hp Caterpillar engines give a cruising speed of 14 knots with a range of 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots and she is fitted with zero speed stabilisers.

Lady Michelle was asking $18,500,000.

Build & Designing of Luxury Yacht LADY MICHELLE

Trinity Yachts was the naval architecture company involved in the formal superyacht design work for LADY MICHELLE. Also the company Trinity Yachts successfully worked on this undertaking. Interior designer Dee Robinson was charged with the creative internal styling. the United States is the country that Trinity Yachts built their new build motor yacht in. After formal launch in 2007 in Gulfport Ms she was released to the happy owner after sea trials. The core hull was constructed with aluminium. The motor yacht main superstructure is fabricated extensively from aluminium. With a width of 8.5 m / 28 ft LADY MICHELLE has fairly large size. She has a fairly shallow draught of 2.43m (8ft). She had refit improvement and alteration work completed in 2007.

The 3512B engine installed in the motor yacht is built by CATERPILLAR. For propulsion LADY MICHELLE has twin screw propellers. The main engine of the yacht gives 2250 horse power (or 1678 kilowatts). She is fitted with 2 engines. The total thrust for the yacht is accordingly 4500 HP / 3356 KW. As for stabalisers she utilises Quantum Zero Speed.

After Living Much of Life at Sea, Captain Sandy Finds Love on Land

Sandy Yawn of “Below Deck Mediterranean” married Leah Shafer on — what else? — a superyacht in Florida.

Sandra Dolores Yawn has been locked up, left for dead on a Florida highway and chased through the Red Sea by pirates.

In the summer of 2018, Leah Rae Shafer reached out on Facebook to send Ms. Yawn her blessings. Not because she thought Ms. Yawn, who goes by Captain Sandy, needed her well wishes, but because she had started watching “Below Deck Mediterranean” on Bravo.

The show follows a crew tasked with catering to a revolving cadre of guests who have chartered a superyacht. Ms. Yawn, a star of the series, is at the helm. Ms. Shafer had written to congratulate her on the show’s success. There was another reason, too. “I thought she was hot,” she said.

Ms. Yawn, 59, has been a yacht captain for more than 30 years. Her foray into television, which started in 2017, was not exactly foreordained. Until her mid-20s, “I was a mess,” Ms. Yawn said. “I was always in trouble. I got kicked out of 11th grade. I didn’t go to college.” At 13, at the start of an adolescence spent between Dundee, Fla., where her father lived, and Bradenton, Fla., where her mother lived, she started drinking. By 17, “I was getting arrested so many times I couldn’t even count how many,” she said. Usually a parent bailed her out. Her father’s refusal to do so after one drunken incident landed her a night in jail.

In 1989, when she was 25, the revolving door of South Florida treatment centers she had been pushing through quit spinning when a counselor told her she couldn’t return. “She said, ‘Sandy, as soon as you get some money in your pocket you’re going to start drinking again,’” Ms. Yawn said.

Fearing real jail time, she joined Alcoholics Anonymous. To start paying off the thousands of dollars she owed in legal fees and addiction treatment center bills, she got a job washing boats in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. By 30, she had earned her captain’s license from Maritime Professional Training, a school in Fort Lauderdale for mariners and yachting professionals.

Rehab — she still has an A.A. sponsor and attends meetings whenever possible — helped her pin down the roots of her teenage rebellion. “I think a big part of my drinking was that I couldn’t accept my sexuality,” she said. “When I got sober is when I accepted that, oh my gosh, I actually prefer women.”

For Ms. Shafer, that level of acceptance took much longer. It also cost her a career as a gospel singer.

Ms. Shafer, 50, is the entrepreneur behind a skin care line, Skin by Leah, and a jewelry business started with a friend, Cuff Me. When she messaged Ms. Yawn to congratulate her on the success of “Below Deck Mediterranean” in 2018, she and her husband of 20 years, then living with their teenage daughter in Denver, were going through a divorce. The relationship had gone stale years earlier, Ms. Shafer said, but fear and uncertainty prevented her from leaving.

“I had the security of not worrying financially, because he took care of everything,” she said. Her gospel career at a nondenominational church had taken off when she was still in high school in Hesperia, Calif. But that was mostly a labor of love.

“I toured and went to college at the same time,” said Ms. Shafer, who graduated from California State University, Northridge, with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts.

By her 30s, she was recording albums, touring megachurches and singing at major Christian conferences. A flirtation with secular performance in the 2000s landed her on the 2003-04 revival of “Star Search” and later a recurring role on NBC’s “The Singing Bee.”

But “I loved God and I loved inspiring people, and the platform I was given was on the stage of churches,” she said. The only problem: “There was really no money in that.”

Before their divorce was final in 2019, she and her husband tried therapy and prayed together. Finally, in 2018, “I just jumped,” she said. “I took a leap of faith. I wanted freedom.”

She found it financially first. Skin by Leah Studio, her Lone Tree, Colo. facial salon that she founded in 2017, was successful right away, she said. When she first saw Ms. Yawn on TV, she was settling into life as an entrepreneur. She didn’t expect to get a response to her Facebook message. But when she got one three months later, in October 2018, it came with an invitation.

In addition to her job as a TV star, Ms. Yawn had started touring with “I Believe,” a series of motivational talks she created to inspire women in leadership positions. When she finally read Ms. Shafer’s message — thousands had been piling up, she said, but something drew her to Ms. Shafer’s — she was in the market for an entertainer for the talks.

In her message, Ms. Shafer had included a video of herself singing the national anthem at a 2014 Denver Broncos game. Once Ms. Yawn clicked the link, she replied right away. “She gave me her phone number and said, ‘I heard you sing,’” Ms. Shafer said. “‘Let’s meet up and talk about how we can do something together.’”

The two continued to talk on the phone and over email. Ms. Yawn was then living in Los Angeles. Ms. Shafer had been planning a Disneyland vacation with her daughter, Lauren, in November, a trip that gave her an excuse to meet Ms. Yawn in person.

Both say they fell in love seconds after Ms. Shafer pulled into Ms. Yawn’s driveway in mid-November 2018. “I offered to park her car for her, and that’s when we hugged,” Ms. Yawn said. “I felt this energy I had never felt. I knew I had to pay attention to that.”

It was a life-changing hug for Ms. Shafer, too. “It was not a normal feeling when I met Sandy,” she said. “She wasn’t the stern captain you see on TV. She was just so fun and so beautiful. That hug melted me.”

Over dinner at Catch, a Los Angeles seafood restaurant, they acknowledged their attraction. “I was really honest with her,” Ms. Yawn said. But Ms. Shafer wasn’t ready to date a woman. “I knew I wanted to be with her,” she said. “I was just freaked out.”

By the end of the evening, Ms. Yawn told her she should take her time. It had been two years since Ms. Yawn’s last relationship. “So at that point I was like, ‘Why rush it?’” she said. “I was older and I’ve learned a lot of lessons. One was, let things happen naturally. Slow and steady wins the race.”

Six months later, the race was over. The women were in a committed relationship, and Ms. Yawn had moved to a place near Ms. Shafer’s in Denver. It was smooth sailing until the end of 2019, when news of the couple’s relationship started circulating in entertainment media.

The public outing ended Ms. Shafer’s gospel career. “I knew the minute I came out as being in love with a woman it would be over, and it was,” she said. Her six CDs, sold in dozens of church bookstores, were pulled from shelves and shipped to her doorstep. Christian radio stations stopped playing her music.

“I had worked for 35 years,” she said. “And it was over.”

Most painful of all were comments after her father’s death from Covid in 2020. “People in the church told me he died because of my sins,” she said. “But he had met and come to accept Sandy before he passed, and I thank God that happened.” Now, “my family adores Sandy.”

Ms. Yawn lost both her parents to heart attacks before she became a TV star — her father in 2006, and her mother in 2009. In 2015, she was en route to the Miami Boat Show on her motorcycle when she was hit by a car. The driver left the scene. “I felt my mother’s presence while I was flipping through the air, and I felt peaceful,” she said.

When she hit the pavement, she had a fractured pelvis and her foot “was on sideways,” she said. By then, though, she was used to navigating life and death scenarios, including fires at sea and run-ins with pirates. She credits her fortitude and empathy, qualities highlighted on “Below Deck Mediterranean,” which she joined in 2017, to her sobriety. “I’ve got nothing to hide and everything to share,” she said.

In 2022, Ms. Yawn and Ms. Shafer bought a house together in Parker, Colo. In September 2023, while Ms. Yawn was filming in Greece, Ms. Shafer flew overseas to visit. Ms. Yawn proposed with a diamond engagement ring on the beach, with violin players in the background.

On May 11, Ms. Shafer and Ms. Yawn were married in Fort Lauderdale aboard She’s a 10 Too, a superyacht lent to the couple by their friend Carolyn Aronson. Fifty-five guests, the maximum allowed aboard the vessel, were in attendance. Among them were “Below Deck Mediterranean” castmates Aesha Scott, Kate Chastain and Dave White, known to viewers as Chef Dave. (And yes, there were cameras filming.)

Ms. Shafer, in a long white wedding gown by Leah Da Gloria, walked down the aisle with her two brothers, Matthew Dale and Justin Dale, to an altar decorated with white roses and hydrangeas; her daughter, now 18, was her maid of honor.

Ms. Yawn, in a white Veronica Beard suit, was escorted down the aisle by Mark Dunham, her brother-in-law. Michelle Dunham, Ms. Yawn’s sister, was her maid of honor. Most guests were barefoot, as is common on yachts. The brides and their wedding party were granted an exception.

Nadine Rajabi, the showrunner of “Below Deck Mediterranean,” who is ordained by the Universal Life Church, married them on the yacht’s bridge aft deck, a job made more difficult by the weather: wind caused her microphone to cut out and blew the pages of her speech around. But nothing could disturb the focus of the brides and their guests as they read handwritten vows.

Ms. Shafer told Ms. Yawn that she had taught her to be more optimistic, more playful and “to jump.” Ms. Yawn told Ms. Shafer that she had given her patience and grace.

The captain had been hoping to make it through the ceremony free of tears. But that, she said shortly after they were pronounced married, was impossible. “The minute I looked at Leah and started reading her all the reasons I fell in love with her I started to cry,” she said. “It’s so amazing to find this kind of love in your lifetime.”

First Minister Michelle O'Neill has told the Covid-19 inquiry that she is 'truly sorry' for having attended the funeral of veteran republican Bobby Storey in West Belfast in June 2020.

The Sinn Féin Vice president appeared at the Northern Ireland leg of the UK wide Covid inquiry into the response to the pandemic in the Clayton Hotel on Tuesday.

Controversy surrounded the attendance of a number of leading Sinn Féin figures at the Storey funeral, including three Stormont ministers, at a time when there were limits on public gatherings imposed by the Executive for which O'Neill was Deputy First Minister.

In July 2020 O'Neill said she would 'never apologise' for attending the funeral of her friend.

When asked by counsel for the inquiry Clair Dobbin KC about her attendance at the funeral, O'Neill said she was 'truly sorry' for attending the funeral and for the hurt caused to families who lost loved ones during the pandemic.

"I have to say up front and I do want to be direct, I'm glad that we're actually able to speak about this so early on in the evidence," O'Neill said.

"There is no doubt that the families themselves have been through an experience there is no coming back from, it's been absolutely horrendous and to lose loved ones in a way in which they have.

"I have met some of the families individually, I have equally listened to some of the testimony that was offered at the start of the inquiry, and no family should have to go through what these families have went through.

"I also know equally that my actions compounded the hurt and the horrible experience that those families have went through.

"I also know that my actions also angered the families, and for that, I am truly sorry, I am sorry for going and I'm sorry for the hurt that was caused after that."

The inquiry was shown minutes of an Executive meeting which took place after the Storey funeral in which then Deputy First Minister O'Neill said that her attendance 'did not dilute the public message' around Coronavirus restrictions.

Addressing the notes, O'Neill said she was 'wrong' to say that.

In a response that almost brought the First Minister to tears, O'Neill says she 'never set out to hurt people' by her attendance at the funeral.

"I think what I've said there in terms of not diluting the public message, that was wrong, because I clearly did, and I have acknowledged that," she said.

"And equally I have worked every day ever since to regain public confidence and trust.

"I think I took every opportunity I had in terms of the aftermath in both the Assembly chamber, in front of the scrutiny committee. I've spoken publicly on a number of occasions about how sorry I am.

"I am absolutely from the bottom of my heart sorry, because I would never set out to hurt you.

"I do accept wholeheartedly that I in some way damaged our Executive relations with colleagues who had been working very hard with me the whole way through.

"I also accept wholeheartedly that I damaged the public health messaging, and I had work to do to regain that."

The inquiry will hear more evidence from the First Minister on Tuesday, while then First Minister Arlene Foster is set to give evidence on Wednesday.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
