Fairline Yachts
Based in Oundle, UK, major British luxury yacht builder Fairline builds fibreglass motor yachts ranging from 12.13 metres to 24.37 metres in length.
History of Fairline Yachts
Luxury yacht builder Fairline was founded by Jack Newington, who started the enterprise by opening Oundle Marina on Britain’s River Nene in 1963. A pioneer in fibreglass boat construction, the shipyard launched its first Fairline motor yacht, a 5.8-metre river cruiser, in 1967, Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, luxury yacht builder Fairline grew to be a major manufacturer of luxury motor yachts exported to international markets. In 1991, with the launch of the 19-metre Squadron 62 flybridge motor yacht, Fairline entered the large luxury yacht market. The shipyard’s expansion has continued with the opening of new manufacturing facilities in 2001–2003 that allow construction of larger luxury yachts and megayachts.
Notable Fairline Yachts
The 20.41-metre Fairline Squadron 65 flybridge motor yacht accommodates 8-10 guests and feels like a much larger vessel. In 2003, luxury yacht builder Fairline introduced the successful 24.37 Fairline Squadron 78 flybridge motor yacht. Now called the Fairline Squadron 78 Custom, it affords yacht owners a high level of customisation, including a choice of three or four staterooms.

Boat builder Fairline Yachts is on crest of a wave as it create 100 plus jobs in Oundle
Manufacturer to host open day to find recruits
A luxury boat builder is creating more than 100 jobs at its Oundle manufacturing centre and is to host an open day for potential staff.
Fairline Yachts employs 450 people at its base in Nene Valley Business Park but says it needs more workers to fulfil its booming order book.
But a spokesperson said finding skilled staff is a challenge for the company.
Now Fairline is to host an open day at its Oundle centre from noon to 4pm on March 2 for would-be recruits.
The company says its order book is worth £100 million and that despite overcoming the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, which included difficulties obtaining raw materials because of disruption to its global supply chain, the predominant issue is finding skilled staff.
The spokesperson said: “While we have successfully navigated through supply chain challenges and ensured a stable flow of parts and materials, the missing link to our final success rests in the skilled boat builders who will contribute to our 2024 success story.
“Nipuna Weeras, our HR Business Partner, has been spearheading the recruitment of local boat builders for years and has recruited and trained a large number of skilled individuals, including young talents who have joined Fairline and excelled in their skills as they grow within the business.
“However, we face unique challenges in our landlocked location with a limited pool of skilled individuals.
"To overcome these challenges, our team has established comprehensive training programs for aspiring trainees, offering them the opportunity to become an integral part of our distinctive manufacturing business.
"With the ambitious goal of recruiting 100 plus boat builders, we warmly welcome anyone eager to join Fairline and embark on a journey towards a winning story.
He added: “Our order book has reached its highest levels, and our dealer network stands as strong as ever.
“As we actively pursue the manufacturing of award-winning yachts for the global market this year, we find ourselves in need of new recruits to join our dynamic team and meet the demand in our order book.
“This isn't just an invitation for new talent. We extend a warm welcome to all former Fairline staff members interested in rejoining us for the exciting journey that lies ahead."

The Fairline Yachts’ Bentley GT speeds into Oundle
Hot on the heels of Fairline Yachts being revealed as the lead sponsor the #1 Bentley in this year’s British GT Championship, racing drivers Rick Parfitt Jnr and Ryan Ratcliffe today visited Fairline’s Oundle HQ.
Showcasing the exciting new partnership between the champion racing drivers and the luxury British motor yacht manufacturer, the visit enabled all the staff from Fairline to get up close and personal with both the drivers and their Bentley Continental GT3 race car.
Russell Currie commented on the sponsorship, saying, “It was a pleasure to welcome Rick and Ryan to Oundle today. This partnership is already giving great exposure to the Fairline brand and offers a fantastic opportunity for our customers to join the action with exclusive ‘backstage’ access to the team, drivers and the first-class hospitality at each of the events.
The whole team here at Fairline Yachts are backing Rick & Ryan all the way – and what better way to do that than by taking our employees and their families to our local circuit, Rockingham, this weekend to be part of this high-octane spectacle.”
For 25 years the British GT Championship has been at the heart of motorsport in the UK and has established itself as the world’s foremost domestic GT series. 161 million households worldwide tune in to watch the racing and with glamorous supercars racing bumper-to-bumper, ground-shaking noise, breathtaking speeds and all the drama of pit stops and driver changeovers, this is a spectacular experience not to be missed.

Boat Builder - All Trades
At Fairline, all our boats are handmade from start to finish, which means every single member of our production team is key to ensuring a top-quality product. Our Boat Builders make up the largest department within Fairline, with a range of tasks and jobs that mean the opportunities to grow and develop your skills is vast.
If you enjoy practical jobs and working with your hands, being a Boat Builder could be right up your street. With a skilled, close-knit team around you, you will have the opportunity to work on high-end, stylish products with a focus on quality and finishing all tasks to the highest standards.
What do the various roles look like within our Production team?
Carpenters & Bench Joiners:
- If you know your way around a variety of power tools and have experience working with high quality materials this could be a good role for you.
- Even better if you have shop fitting/carpentry or joinery experience and can follow guides to meet the requirements of the boat build.
Stage 1 Fitters:
- Be able to pro-actively and competently work to boat build documentation and install a range of items that make up the boats.
- Assemble GRP components to create the correct layout and structure of the vessel.
Paint/Lacquer Sprayers:
- Our Sprayers ensure that the Fairline yachts leave our Oundle site looking the very best! This includes careful application of products including high gloss polyester and paint lacquer.
- A good eye for detail is useful for this role, as well as taking pride in your work.
CNC Operatives:
- CNC is a small but high-performing team that feeds our internal parts shop and is important to ensure our boats can be decked out in stunning furniture and storage.
- If you’re experienced with using sheet timber and confident with computer programming, we think you’ll enjoy this role.
Engineers/Marine Engineers:
- Our engineering teams are responsible for the installation of propulsion and stabilisation systems, construction of dashboard and specified components, as well as other tasks that fall into the engineering remit.
- Ideally, you will be an experienced engineer with a background in the marine industry to enable you to accurately fit, connect, check, and test all the marine equipment to ensure its functionality.
- This is the start of the build of the actual boat! You’ll be responsible for setting up moulds, including waxing and gelling. You’ll have a good eye for details to make sure that the start of our boat building process runs as smoothly as possible.
- This department will suit you if you’re good at working to a deadline, and like to take something simple and turn it into something impressive!
Fairline is one of England’s most recognised and prestigious marine brands and has been building handmade boats in Northamptonshire since 1963. Our luxury yachts look a little different to the boats that were born out of Oundle Marina back then, but they’re built with the very same craftmanship, passion, and attention to detail that make Fairline a household name across the world.
We’re growing our team with people that possess the same passion, skills, and commitment to quality that truly makes Fairline stand out from the rest, and we’d love you to join us.
